Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

I wish I could ask Ron Silver what he thinks of the AIG bonuses. He'd have some original take -- maybe propose re-opening the bonuses paid to Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick for their yeoman's work running Fannie Mae into the ground and then collecting bonuses of $90 million and $24.7 million, respectively. Or maybe he'd just make a joke.

But I can't ask him anymore because Ron died of a rare esophageal cancer last Sunday.

So now there is one less person in the world who never chooses his positions to feed a pompous ego or to stroke his self-image as a thinking person. There was no point to posturing for Ron: His social standing in Hollywood was revoked the moment he supported Bush and the Iraq War.

Perhaps Ron always spoke his mind, but I didn't know him when he was "brave"; I only knew Ron when he was actually brave.

I've noticed that words like "brave" and "courageous" are mostly used nowadays to mean "left-wing." We're constantly asked to admire the monumental courage of Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Janeane Garofalo and the Dixie Chicks -- sometimes even by other people.

But for my younger readers, what courage traditionally meant was risking the disapprobation of people you know. It was about losing friends, losing work and losing status where you live -- not alienating people you will never meet. Insulting people in Kansas when you live in Los Angeles is not speaking truth to power; it's speaking anything to serve power.

One thing you cannot say about Ron's magnificent speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention is that he did it to go with the flow in Hollywood, to take the path of least resistance, to win easy applause. Ron did lose work, lose friends and lose his entire social apparatus.

Ron didn't say what he said to get any kind of reaction, but because he believed it. He was an intellectual trapped in an actor's body.

Amid the antiques at his beautifully appointed Park Avenue pre-war, there were piles and piles of magazines and newspaper articles on topics ranging from Sunni Muslims to Darwinism. Nearly every room was lined with books, most of them dog-eared.

When I needed to stay with Ron for a few weeks once, he'd get up hours before I did, read all the major newspapers and leave the interesting articles circled at the foot of my bed.

This might be the nicest thing a man could ever do for me. Hey, skip the bagel and fresh coffee -- bring me that op-ed page and a pair of scissors! It was like a fabulous Park Avenue hotel with a clipping service.

During his long-shot chemo treatments at "the spa," as he called Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Ron turned his chemo rooms into Command Central. Most people doze off during chemo; Ron would be sitting upright, watching the news, checking his laptop and making cell phone calls, seemingly oblivious to the poison being injected into his arm.

He'd often come to church with me on Sundays -- while insisting he favored the "Original Testament," as if the New Testament were an act of judicial activism. He just liked to hear an intellectual lecture on the Bible -- and always perked up when the minister began discussing the "Original Testament."

On Sundays when we had communion, Ron would pop the host in his mouth as soon as the tray passed him, approvingly observing that matzo was served at church.

No ideas frightened him, which is part of the reason why we were always laughing, even when we were arguing.

Ron sometimes told me of the cruelty directed at him by his former friends, but never with bitterness or for publication -- although I'm tempted to get it off my chest even if he didn't want to get it off his chest. You know who you are.

As with his impending death, Ron mostly joked about his banishment from the plutocracy. When I off-handedly mentioned in December 2004 that I had to get a Christmas tree, he told me he'd like to help, but having recently spoken at the Republican National Convention, the last thing he needed was to be seen walking through the streets of New York carrying a Christmas tree.

After an aborted operation on his cancer in July 2007, as soon as I saw Ron in his hospital bed, I told him I had Christians across the country praying for him. He said, "That's good, because the Jews are praying for me to die."

Here he was joking only hours after being told his cancer was inoperable and he had mere months to live. Nearly two years later, he was gone. Luckily for him, he now faces a Maker who rewards bravery, but despises "bravery."

Rest in peace Ron.

Ann
As one who greatly enjoys your columns every week, I reckon we can let you take this one off.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, Ron.

a side of Anne
I like to see.. RIP Ron Silver

RIP Ron

For a beautiful man and a brave soul.

For Ann, peace be with you and let God ease your pain.

For all of the Liberals that hated Ron or cast him aside, you only wish that your life could be as meaningful as Ron Silver's was. May hell be with you.

Sorry
for your loss, Ann. God bless and comfort you during this sad time.

Remember Ron Silver
Rest in peace Ron. You will be missed.

R.I.P. Ron Silver, you're missed

Ann, we share your loss.

What a Fabulous Testimonial

It's a sad loss, but I am very glad to know -- thanks to Ms. Coulter's touchy testimonial -- that Mr. Silver is heading into the afterlife with his head held very high.

It is nice to read about such an inspirational man. Thank you, Ms. C.

Beautiful
What a lovely testimonial about a true brave heart.

Rest in Peace Ron............

.........such a breath of fresh air. To many of those Hollyweird jerks think because they are "famous" that they are smart. Ron WAS smart, not because he was famous, but because he was well read, had a thirst for knowledge, and insatiable curiosity. Godspeed Ron.

You Hollywood idiots take note......

Ron Silver was a truly brave person
Who suffered the consequences of defying the Democrat party's first commandment, "Thou shalt have no opinion that we don't give you."

I found this out the hard way when someone very close to me was publicly scorned and humiliated for daring to openly admit to being a Conservative.

RIP Ron Silver.

Princess of Hate

The princess is aging in front of our eyes, although I never thought she was attractive even when she was 20, she was never my type. The lunatic fringe of the right thinks he is the ONE, what a wonderful world,,,,,,,

Sam
Be bold Barack HUSSEIN Obama, we got your back.

Sam, if you can't show respect
for someone in their time of personal loss get the hell off this thread?

Sam
i am no fan of hers, but reading this column, it is apparent that she suffers his loss. it is not right to kick a person when they are down.

Dear Ann,
You are so correct.

I too am a conservative artist.

I have very few artist freinds because they are shocked at my point of view.

I founded and run a Theatre for professional child actors and they get all points of view.

We don't make mistakes 'round here.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

WE CONSERVATIVE ARTISTS NEED YOU MORE NOW THEN EVER...GOD BLESS RON!

ROWDY BOOTS

Tabitha917: Sam crawls out from

under his rock now and then.. This was mild for him.

Yes, Ron was a unique and intelligent, courageous person.

I did not know Ron, but I was surprised at my own profound "sense of loss" when I heard of his passing.

And I truly believe that my "sense of loss" about somebody I never met, was shared by countless others.

I also truly believe that now Ron knows that for every friend who spurned him, there are many, countless others who admired him...

He just never met them......

RON SILVER
Ann
I'm sorry you lost such a good friend.

He was such a smart guy. I always enjoyed listening to his interviews. He was well read and knew the facts. As an actor, his passion for his craft showed. I'll miss him too.

RIP Ron, you're in a much better place. You're in great company.

Please IGNORE IQ29. Do NOT allow him to

trash THIS thread.

An American Hero!
Wonderfully written Ann. Ron Silver was definitely one of the good guys. Thank you for such a memorable tribute to a truly brave American, a patriot in every sense of the word. You're the best!

Wobbie was doing so good in his first
of the thread, then he had to revert to his true form and start sniping at people.

I hope that one day he learns some manners, but I won't hold my breath.

Trolls will be tools
Ranger, Sam, choke on it.

I want to add my sentiments
To those of all the other intelligent and respectful posters in this thread, even Robert/Ranger29.

Ron Silver was a true class act who had the courage to stand up for his convictions. He will be truly missed.

Even by those who spurned him, they just don't know it yet.

Anne the lunatic

Welcome to my neighborhood CNN. Welcome to great state of Michigan, Home of tolerance and technology.

Sam
Be bold Barack HUSSEIN Obama, we got your back.

Thanks, Sam
One of my favorite things about Ann's columns, aside from the fact that they're insightful and witty at the same time, is that the liberal kookoo birds flock to post their idiocy. I was beginning to wonder where they all were, but you saved the day. Thanks for the nice ad hominem attack, moron.

To echo what everyone else said, RIP Ron Silver. I didn't always agree with him, but as Ann said, he definitely had the courage of his convictions, real courage, that is.

I also want to express my condolences
To Liam Neeson and family on the passing of their wife and mother, Natasha Richardson.

She was a very talented and beautiful young actress and will also be greatly missed.

Oh, right, Robbie
Forgot to thank you, too. "No longer sales (sic) to the American people..." Glad to see you're posting your usual cogent arguments as well.

Thanks,Ann
Thanks Ann for sharing Ron's last days with us. We would not have known ,otherwise. We only knew of his passing.

He was a brave man who gave up a lot to gain a lot more. He is whole now. I pray that tonight he is ,singing and praising God ,with the angels.

A more peaceful coexistence
All but the diehard statists who think they know best and abhor freedom and self determination should be able to agree with this:

Since the country is roughly split 50/50, this arrangement could work. We stay united as one nation, but we remove some of the power from DC and return it to the people and the states. The citizens of the individual states could decide how much government they want.

The reason I am posting it here is because the Hollywood reaction to Conservatives is a symptom of the division in the country.

USPatriot:
You are correct: Barry Soetoro is not a natural born US citizen and indeed may not even be a US citizen. I suspect he is an illegal alien.

When the truth comes out that Barry is ineligible to be POTUS all hell will break loose. And I'm not talking about his supporters rioting--I mean that all his acts as POTUS will be null and void.

What a decent and good man he was!
Thanks for sharing that!

Chief justice accepts 'eligibility' petition
Roberts agrees to read Obama docs, consider WND's 330,000 signers.

Taitz said,
"I told Scalia that I was an attorney that filed Lightfoot v. Bowen that Chief Justice Roberts distributed for conference on Jan. 23 and now I represent nine state reps and 120 military officers, many of them high ranked, and I want to know if they will hear Quo Warranto and if they would hear it on original jurisdiction, if I bring Hawaii as an additional defendant to unseal the records and ascertain Obama's legitimacy for presidency."

Guantanamo Detainees to be Released Here

"Eric Holder told reporters at the Justice Department that the administration's review, made on a case-by-case basis, would determine whether the prisoners need to be put on trial or whether they can be released.

"For those who are in that second category, who can be released, there are a variety of options that we have. Among them is the possibility that we could release them into this country," Holder said.

Ann, you have a great friend there, excellant column.

Interesting lesson in class here

Coulter's column shows class. Most of the comments show class.

Then there are the comments by Sam and Idiot Ranger Roberto. Necessary so we can enjoy the contrast, I guess.

One of these days

Ranger29
How well do you read? My post indicated that the country is "roughly" split 50/50. Do you recall the popular vote split in the 2008 Presidential election?

Do you think that it is a good idea for 537 elected officials in Washington DC to make decisions for 300 million people? Do you think that it is a good idea for these same people to control the federal budget which is between 20% and 30% of GDP?

Regarding states' rights being dead, I offer the following quote from Sam Adams:
"It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men."

Revealing
This is the first and only article by Ann Coulter that sheds a glimpse into the soul of who she really is. I have always admired Ann, now I know why.

As for those who choose to use her words to honor someone she obviously very much cared for, to make political cheap shots, you do yourselves great shame. As she says in the article, "you know who you are."

BrianR: Obviously, IQ29 hasn't yet

gotten over his last electro-shock therapy treatment...

Or, perhaps he did, and this is the result.

Obama wants to disarm Airline pilots

The Obama administration is taking steps quietly to shut down the program that qualifies commercial airline pilots to carry firearms in jetliner cockpits in order to ward off another 9/11-type attack.

The administration recently diverted $2 million from a program to train and certify pilots to carry firearms safely while on duty. Instead, it is using the money to hire additional field inspectors to help discipline pilots who step out of line, according to a report in Tuesday’s Washington Times.

A Times editorial condemned the Obama administration's action, calling it “completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots.”

Since Obama took office, the approval process for certifying pilots to carry firearms has ground to a halt, the newspaper reports. Pilots are afraid to speak out about the behind-the-scenes maneuverings, for fear of retaliation, according to the newspaper.

No cases have been reported in which pilots have brandished a weapon inappropriately or otherwise abused their eligibility to carry firearms."

Ranger29
Did you actually read the link? If so, do you have any thoughtful commentary to add?

Regarding "my side" losing, there are elections every 2 years. The Republicans lost because they failed to govern by the principles that got them elected in the first place.

The statist/progressives will not have control of the House, Senate, and White House forever. When they are out of power, the vitriol from the left will return.

A main point of the link I posted was to reduce the number of things that we disagree about at the federal level.

Many on the left were fine with ever increasing amounts of power being centralized in DC, but when Republicans were elected and began exercising that power for things they disagreed with, the shouting and screaming from the left began. Now that the Dems are in control, the screaming from the left stopped. The Democrats can do whatever they want. However, when the Republicans are back in control, the screaming will start again.

Why not agree to return to the Constitution in order to remove most of the agreements from DC? There will still be plenty of disagreements around the things rightfully decided at the federal level. Imagine the choice and diversity that removing power from DC would offer.

Mariner 8:29
I expect you meant well, but, I wouldn't call this particular very good piece of prose "taking one off." Read it a couple of times more. It's deep. The theme is a lofty one, what constitutes real Intellectual and Moral Courage.

By somehow drawing a distinction between this column and her usual ones, aren't you in danger of unintentionally buying into the commieqr canard that Coulter is all snippy put downs and no substance?

Unpack what you're trying to get at a little.

Ranger
The results of the last election:
Popular vote: Obama - 52.9%; McCain 45.7%

Please provide examples of the 60/40 or 70/30 split on the major issues.

Regarding "my side," I am actually more interested in individual freedom than I am states' rights. For me, it is more about the citizen than the government. I understand that progressive/statists cherish the government more than the individual. That is why they find it useful to divide individuals into groups and label them.

I understand the 14th Amendment. That there are certain rights that cannot be abridged did not mean that the federal government had to increase to its current size and scope. If it did, then please explain why the federal budget in 1908 was still only 2.5% of GDP instead of the 20-30% that it is today.

I find the 16th and 17th to be the bigger issues. The nice thing about Amendments is that they can be repealed. Do you recall a thing call Prohibition?

Ron Silver, a standout
He understood the serious need to oppose Islamic fascism, and paid dearly for it professionally and among his fellow glitterati.

Despite his former liberalism, he came to realize that there was much about it that was inherently disingenuous, demented and predatory. As Ann has described, he would not let opportunism nor peer pressure, unlike this nation's poltroons, dissuade him from what he felt was intellectually honest and agreed with his conscience.

This was one of the reasons he was invited to speak at the 2004 GOP convention - it was an inspirational speech and a fine tribute to the men and women who serve this nation in a time of war.

Thanks, Ron. RIP

So Sorry
I so am sorry for the loss of Mr. Silver and for your personal loss Ann Coulter. He truly was courageous in the best sense of the word.

Ranger'sIQ's-29 personifies the statement, "Ignorance can be cured, but stupidity is forever."

Ron Silver an American Patriot

The American Patriot to me is one who loves their Country and wish America no harm for any reason.

The American Patriot is male, female and children of every nationality, race, ethnic background and religion who wish America no harm for any reason.

The American Patriot are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom who wish America no harm.

The American Patriot ia proud of their flag and the Statue of Liberty which "welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed" and wishes America no harm.

The American Patriot takes pride in the greatest Warriors in the history of man - the American Soldier and wish America no harm.

The American Patriot looks at their sons and daughters in uniform with tears in their hearts and pride on their faces as their children goes off to defend the greatest country ever on this planet and wish America no harm.

The spouse and children of the American Patriot with anxiety in their hearts and faces shining with pride watch as their American Warrior leaves to defend America.

The American Patriot lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness and the right to self determination and wish America no harm.

The American Patriot does not want to weaken America in dangerous times for political reasons.

The American Patriot does not put ideology first and America second to harm it in hopes it will learn a 'lesson'.

God Bless America and its' Patriots!

How wonderful PerBert agrees with us that Our Rights are Divinely given and that the DOI spells SOME of em out.

Like the one where "if any form of Government (including a bloated, diseased and debased Federalism) becomes destructive to these ends it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it and to institute new Government."

Glad you agree, PerB, we can rejoice together in our agreement when you go to the Wall and we execute you by Lethal Injection of Flame Thrower.

Good Night all Thinking People

Remember, it is very difficult to debate with someone you must educate first.

Ranger29
How do you know what kind of person I am and what I accused Clinton of? As I indicated earlier, many statist/progressives have a habit of minimizing the individual for the good of the state. I am beginning to understand why you have a reputation here. Your assumptions are extremely annoying.

I am not suggesting that anyone should govern by the polls (notice the attempt I made to recall a Reagan quote regarding polls). The point of the polls was to illustrate that the country is not leaning all to one side as your earlier post suggests.

Do you think there would be more lobbyists or fewer lobbyists in Washington DC if the federal budget were 5-10% of GDP instead of 20-30%?

Many on the left decry big business (Big Oil, Big Tobacco, Big Pharma, etc.) while supporting big government. Do you? If so, why?

Heh heh heh, Ranger Roberto

So, pinhead....... Tell us all about your breakfast at the Parthenon last week.

C'mon, Athens Bob, all of us who have actually been to Greece and the Acropolis -- upon which sits the Parthenon -- want to know where on the Parthenon you found the restaurant that no one else in the world ever even knew existed.

Let's hear it, oh Mighty BS Slinger.... how and where and what did you have for that infamous breakfast, you and Mrs. Plastic Athens Bob?

Waiting for your Zagat report on the cuisine, just like I did the other night on the Sowell thread until, you went running off to Mommy, crying like the whimpy little geeky punk you are.

So, Athens Bob, Maestro of the BS, let's hear it!

Death

ranger29? MANY care about BC issue!
Have you ever heard of the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS?

He cares ..

"Chief justice accepts 'eligibility' petition
Roberts agrees to read Obama docs, consider WND's 330,000 signers"

GO HERE:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId= 91763

Or here is a sample:

A California attorney lobbying the U.S. Supreme Court for a review of Barack Obama's qualifications to be president confronted the chief justice yesterday with legal briefs and a WND petition bearing names of over 325,000 people asking the court to rule on whether or not the sitting president fulfills the Constitution's "natural-born citizen" clause.

According to Orly Taitz, the attorney who confronted Chief Justice John Roberts at a lecture at the University of Idaho, the judge promised before the gathered crowd that he would, indeed, read and review the briefs and petition.

"I addressed him in front of 800 people in the audience," Taitz told WND, "including university officials, the president of the Idaho State Bar and the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Idaho, and in front of all them, [Roberts] promised to read my papers."

29? YOU MAY NOT CARE BUT A WHOLE LOT OF REAL PEOPLE DO CARE ...

You don't know what a "Blackballer" is, but with the wonderful, inflatable Mrs. Wonder Wobbie, we all know that you are quite familiar with a Blueball(s)er!

Ladies and Gentlemen, please
This started out as a eulogy to a fine man, but you've allowed wobbie wangholder to monopolize your attention and to disrupt the spirit of the column.

I do not read anything posted by that self consumed creep who thrives on the attention, even if it is vitriolic. He's the punk who goes to the zoo to aggravate the animals - why give him the satisfaction?

You know he's a lying, mentally disturbed and emotionally insecure fool - why let him bring out the worst in you?

We're here responding to a column regarding the death of one of our best - and all we seem to pay attention to is one of our worst.

I'm just as sick of the POS as you are but if you don't play his game, maybe the little CSer will befoul some other place.

Last Call and Night
Ferreting out where Weaselly Robber keeps his principles is a monumental task. Note just on this thread he makes some vague Nod to RR's Greatness, claims a respect for the DOI and Divine Rights and a to be a genuine Texan valuing Independence. Claims.

What one sees with a little parsing is how he really defines himself by his HATREDS. W, the mythical "Big Business" and "right wing" by which he seems to mean Moral Values in general and Anti-Prhomo specifically.

In short, like every commieqr I've ever turned a rock on, he Hates everyone more successful, more productive, richer, and more moral than he is. And he wants to tear them down to his much lower level by means of Big Government, which he justifies by the Tyranny of the ONE over 50%--some Texan THAT is. Santa Anna would be Proud.

Meantime, he brags to us constantly about all he has done and been ad infinitum, ad nasium, never missing a manufactured opportunity to name drop or claim status.

I'll say this for PerB, he at least BRAGS like a Fighter Jock.
RR used to say, on the other hand, that there was no limit to what a man could accomplish if he didn't care who got the credit. THAT's class. W may have been a Fighter Jock, but HE had THAT kind of Class.

PerB? Well, he's what we used to call (and called Oberman succinctly last week) a "yprick."

I now have this vision of PerB as the aging Queen who is Keith Oberman's ybitch.

(There, I came up with one almost as good as the Helen Thomas Stalker image.)

Ranger 29 is done here-he has no honer-attacks the dead .Uses them to advance his political points.... uses the dead to make political points. How small can he get? Ranger29 I call on you to appolgise to Ann Coulter directely ,and at least save a bit of your personal credibility, tho I know ,there ain't much there
Mark

LOL, Mick!

You said, "I'll say this for PerB, he at least BRAGS like a Fighter Jock."

Didn't you mean "a Fighter's Jockstrap"?

Celebrities.
I'm not familiar with the gentleman described here, obviously his death at 62 is untimely. A conservative actor is as entitled to his or her opinion as anyone else, although I wonder why we even care what famous people think. When celebrities embrace worthy causes, such as George Clooney with Darfur and Richard Gere with Tibet, it probably does some good.

grubby
Naw, great prose stands on its own.
Comment is comment and NOT the same thing as the Column.

And consider this: "You have not defeated a man, merely because you have silenced him."

Ignoring commieqrs and eulogizing to ourselves may make us feel good--but it allows Lie, and Stupidity, and Dis-cogency, and Irrationality, and TREASON and TYRANNY to STAND, doesn't it?

I engage PerB's IDEAS (PerB never engages ME) so that OTHERS might see the DIS-cogency, the FALSEHOOD in it, and in others LIKE it.

I consider that a useful thing.

Much like correcting an arithmatic error.

Much respect to Ron, don't know about Anne's take on his revoked Hollywood pass, or the need to insert it in an otherwise sweet posting, but it seems as though he was loved from all sides for all of the right reasons...

Hey, you don't suppose PerBert
is that guy who sold Dan Rather the "papers" from "Lucy Ramirez" that "proved" W didn't do his Guard duty?

He sure hates W like that. Wasn't that guy claiming to be some kind of Military Big Wig in Texas?

Come to think of it, I can hear him now in one of those interviews saying: "We've lost it all, baby" to his wife off camera.

Somehow PerB's prose style and that sound bite strike me as eerily similar.

What was that guy's name?

Hey PerB! Ever FIND "Lucy Ramirez"?

Cause To Repeal The 17th Amendment

State legislatures did not hesitate to instruct U.S. senators on how to vote. In fact, the very first instruction that was given to them was to meet in public! The Virginia and Kentucky Resolves of 1798 (see William Watkins, Reclaiming the American Revolution) were the work of state legislatures that instructed their senators to oppose the Sedition Act, which essentially made it illegal to criticize the federal government.

State legislatures were instrumental in Andrew Jackson’s famous battle with the Bank of the United States (BUS), which ended with the Bank being de-funded and replaced by the Independent Treasury System and the era of "free banking" (1842–1862). State legislatures throughout the U.S. instructed their senators to oppose the BUS in the senate. Senator Pelog Sprague of Maine was forced to resign in 1835 after ignoring his legislature’s instructions to vote against the Bank. The U.S. Senate voted to censure President Andrew Jackson for opposing the BUS, but the states responded by forcing seven other senators to resign for taking part in that vote.

Yo...Ranger Roberto

Still waiting for your report on your Parthenon breakfast, Athens Bob, you lying sack of scheiss.

C'mon, loser, your credibility is on the line, dude! Tell us where you found a restaurant at the Parthenon to serve you and your blow-up doll wife that breakfast you were bragging on in your usual obnoxious and lying way.

C'mon, you schmuck, put up or shut up.

I will say one thing for that ridiculous blustering buffoonery today, Frank, Dodd, and the rest of the idiots shooting off their mouths make Obama and Geithner look smart.

And someone revoke Grassley's Christian card, then give him the boot! True Christians don't tell people to go and kill themselves.

No wonder the economy sucks...look at what is in the halls of government.

trully the last thought
Note how PerBert addresses NOT whether a Fact (like the BC) might be TRUE or not, but ONLY whether or not "it goes your way".

Justice by Fiat, Truth by Voting off the Island.
American Idol as the New Electoral College Model.

There's Principle for ya.
Taking PerB to his logical conclusion his "Republic" is that of "Madam Guillotine" where raddled French Hags sit in judgement of their betters. No Truth, No Justice, No Morality, Not even, Truth be told, any Liberty or Freedom, Just MOB RULE.

That's PerB's "Republic."

Just heading off to bed (almost 2:00 AM here), but couldn't help but predict that "Ranger29" would not only ignore your question - but would have to "leave" the site for an important task at hand...

In this case, "breakfast".

He is indeed the most mentally ill human being I have encountered on the internet.

Anyway - good to see you, amigo, and best wishes.

Primus

Good to see you, too, pard. It's been a while.

Yeah, this was the same drill as on the column last week where he made that absurd claim, and the Sowell column a couple of days ago. Once he's pinned to the wall on it, he suddenly has to disappear.

Good riddance. A true whack-a-doodle.

I believe I'm hitting the rack, too. Good to see you again, man! Best to you, too.

R.I.P. Ron Silver
I always admired Ron Silver's acting ability but I confess that I didn't know until recently he had gone conservative. Good for him. RIP Ron and condolences Ann on the death of your friend.

Very sad when...
bright creative people leave us early. Goodnight Ron and Natasha. Blessings and beast wishes to you and your families.

Ron Silver
I'm sorry for Miss Coulter's loss. Clearly, Ron Silver was a decent and courageous man.

Condolences
Ann, sorry for the loss of your friend. You wrote a wonderful testimony to Ron. May he rest in peace and may you always remember and find joy in those brave qualities he left with you.

Powerful and moving, Ann
You lost a friend-- but Ron Silver hasn't lost his. Thanks for your tribute.

Ranger 29
I know you will see this because your life is run on being able to spout your hatred of the U.S. every time someone points out your errors. Ann's column today was simply not a place for you to be seen or heard. As a famous judge once said "At long last, sir, have you no sense of decency" I think most TH posters recognize your failed stance, I do believe it is time for you to fade away. You must be more popular at the leftist blogs. You have worn out your welcome here. I would appreciate it if TH would banish your posts.

"(Would that be Nic-er for short?)"

Heh heh. Kindly post a spew alert next time, please. I just shot diet pepsi out my nose and onto my keyboard.

And I agree...JFK was the last democrat worth a damn.

Ann
You have my profound sympathy and my sincere thanks for a moving tribute.

It is unfortunate that by giving Mr. Silver a fraction of his due you have created another opportunity for ridicule by scum such as Sam and Ranger29. Like Fred Phelps and the funeral-protesting fools of Westboro Baptist Church, they know nothing of decency, and they can find no occasion too solemn for their desperate attention-seeking.

Rumor has it that when you go shopping, you back through the entrance doors of a store. That way, they know right away, here comes an arshole.

You’re the epitome of the depraved opposition we face. It makes me proud to keep company with the likes of the decent, compassionate folks on this column.

While others share their own feelings of loss along with Ann, your sickness wouldn't allow a single moment of descency. It only took the quick wit of a couple of posters to take you out and marginalize your already worthless contribution to this board as well as humanity. But, that's an observation that would not escape the perceptual acuity of a second grader.

I always enjoyed the Army and never considered it a sacrifice but an honor. When I see people like you, it makes me wish I could have selected the individuals on whom to bestow the gift of freedom.

Dave – Retired, U.S. Army

Rest in peace Ron
Thanks Ann. God be with you.

Sorrow
It is so sad to lose a dear and close friend. I can barely go to a wake without sobbing like 3 year old who lost their new toy. But you Ranger, are someone who is so insensitive, so vile you cannot even weep with Ms. Coulter for her dear departed friend. Someday You will answer to Him for your detest for other mankind.

IQ-29
Your lady friend said you think better when you have half a bottle of JD left.

Or maybe you're drinking from one of those bottles with a worm. The worm is probably your twin.

RIP Ron Silver
I had my doubts about him for awhile. It was reported that he made a rude comment about the jet flyover at the Clinton inauguration in 1993 and then quipped, "Oh wait! They belong to US now." Sounds to me like he was a dedicated liberal--at least in 1993. I was quite surprised when he turned out to be a Bush supporter after 9/11 and I decided that he must be smarter than I thought. Then, his speech at the convention convinced me for good. He will be greatly missed by those of us who value courage and honor. I'm very sorry for Ann as her loss is obviously even more profound.

Nice tribute, Ann
Your column makes me wish I could have known the man personally. He was a good actor but turned out to be a better man in real life than in reel life.

God bless you, Ann, in the loss of your friend and RIP Ron Silver.

Thanks, Ann.

Ron Silver was truly a special human being, and a man who gave real meaning to the word bravery.

And he was also a chartered member of a most exclusive but growing club - those who finally stand up for freedom... even if it costs them friends and job security.

And as more and more bravehearts are seeing the light... they are joining hands with countless other 9/12 conservatives across our land.

Thank you, Ann... for sharing your loss with all of us. He will definately be missed.

Ron Silver, RIP.

On the side; why so many posters still allow themselves to be dragged into the gutter by specific trolls... is beyond me.

When you don't feed them... they do starve.

Sam and Ranger
Attack all you want. It doesn't really matter -- things are what they are. The big ZerO is what he is, and is revealing himself to be what he is daily. Enjoy it while you can. The future is not going to be pretty, but the inevitable has been speeded up thanks to you and others for putting the Bamster in power.

Original Testament
I like that: "Original Testament." Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 tell of the completion of the original, almost a kind of "To be Continued."
And then the Completer came, and carried out the original directives.

I remember the bravery of Ron Silver, too - I think the word was astonished, when he said what needed to be said, did what needed to be done.

That's what defines bravery: doing what's needed when no one else wants to do it.

A liberal's version of "bravery?" "Only admit to those sins that are popular." (Frank Herbert)

Liberals appear to resist the tide, but actually just anticipate the wave - and ride it in with the rest of the jellyfish.

Ron Silver: May you have known the Completer, and be in eternity with Him in Paradise. You are a hero; may you receive a hero's reward.

I'm sure he feels blessed
to have known you in this life. Of all the glorious things of his time here, of the most inspiring sunrises and the most peaceful sunsets, and all in between, I'm sure he feels blessed.

LouLouise
Spoken like a true idiot who is content to live in the cesspool that is Michigan.

Hey! LouLouise. there are a few of us hanging on here in beautiful Michigan hoping for better days. Michigan is NOT a cesspool!

When Ann loves you ...
When Ann Coulter loves you, you have arrived at a place of supreme peace and unavoidable contempt.

Best Column You Ever Wrote.

Thank You, Ann.

God Bless you and Ron.

Excellent comments (for the most part), also.

(NOTE: Ann, another thanks for holding off on writing about the abuse the Hollywood elite heaped on Ron. They're not worth a single word. This is how they treat one of their own when he or she won't toe the liberal line!? How sad.)

Dear Ann
you have my sympathy in the loss of your friend. God Bless.

R.I.P. Ron Silver
I will not use the occasion of Ron Silver's death to make political or personal attacks on this thread, unlike some who have done so today. To use a thread where people should be expressing their condolences to Ron's family and frineds and turn it into nothing more than a bunch of ad hominem attacks is unconscionable.

Ron, you were a fine actor and a better man. You leave behind a world that is diminished now that you are gone. My condolences to your friends and family.

My Sympathies
I've always admired Ron Silver. It is so rare to see an member of the Hollywood elite who is brave enough to stand up for his beliefs knowing he will suffer condemnation and alienation from his "peers".

I was not aware you were such close friends. I'm sure it is a friendship you will treasure always. My sympathies for your loss.

Rowdy
Alas! We have theatre in common. I am a theatrical director and I understand your situation well. There are more of us in the arts than I realized (two!...you and me)!

Just joking. I know there are more than that, but we surely are a minority. Keep the faith and keep telling those stories. It is what binds us together, the commonality of our human condition.

Even this thread is a testament to that where most of the usual Ann-bashers are being considerate.

Sam from MI - the sexist
I haven't read thru all the comments yet, but just had to say something after reading Sam's comment near the top of the thread.

What a disgusting piece of work. Nobody cares whether you find a female columnist attractive or whether she is your type. What does that have to do with anything? A woman's credibility and compentence are not dependent on your finding her physically attractive. Men are not treated that way.

I don't comment often, but I am so sick of it. You leftists are the most chauvinist sexist pigs.

Respect for Ron Silver.
I am a fellow member of Actors Equity. Ron Silver was a stand up guy, he was brilliant and principled. He was a liberal but a true liberal, he listened to what you had to say and gave you credit for your ideas, he didn't shut you down, he let you make your point. He might have disagreed with you but he didn't cut you off to make you look like an idiot. He came to realize that their were people in this world that wished to obliterate America. He rethought his position and became a conservative. In show business, that's career suicide! He spoke up for conservative causes and many of his, "Friends," turned their backs on him. What guts! He will be missed, he was a; Great American! I'd wish him R.I. P. but I'm sure he's needed to pick up a good cause in the hereafter.

RIP Ron
Rest in Peace Ron. You were a classy guy and great American.

sorry to break my rule but:
Ranger says: "LouLouise it is a free country
you can believe what you want...heck Anne believes that the WMD Went to Syria...but you have no proof...

Robert "

Robert,to paraphrase you - you believe than people on this thread are interested in what you have to say...but you have no proof...

Julia

Wonderful tribute
Thanks, Ann. As a fellow (albeit far less accomplished) actor myself, I would like to join those praising Ron Silver's artistic accomplishmments. I had the pleasure of seeing him in Speed-the-Plow on Broadway, and he deserved that Tony.

Despite all the lore to the contrary, the most intelligent and educated people make the best actors, and it is usually the most grounded ones that are able to navigate careers.

What I remember most about that otherwise excellent Mamet production wasn't Silver's great performance, unfortunately. It was the flailing, caterwauling, vapid and sophomoric performance rendered by Great Liberal # 127, Madonna.

Actors may give lying performances onstage, but they never fail to reveal themselves in spite of their best efforts, and it was obvious at first glance that Ron Silver was the real deal, onstage and off.

A

Heaven
Don't worry Ann. Ron is now with God in Heaven, he will never have to deal with a liberal again.

Ms. Coulter
What a fabulous affirmation of a life well lived! Thank you for such a loving tribute to Ron Silver.

Some brought up the column you wrote as a tribute to your father. That one made me cry all day. I also remember the tribute you wrote on the passing of John Kennedy, Jr., who was also a good friend of yours.

With only a few words you can paint a life, and in that there is a rare beauty. Thanks again.

Tribute to Ron Silver
It takes real courage to be a conservative and to speak up for conservative values in Hollywood today.

Secondly, from the tidbits here and there I've picked up about Ron, he seemed to be a real class act, one that we should all strive to emulate. To listen to another's point of view thoughtfully and not to treat them rudely or with contempt when there is disagreement is a trait few of us have and all of us should strive to develop.

Ron, you will be missed.

One Bad Apple....
.....spoils the barrel. I am not the one who should say this ,but I will.

What started off to be a tender tribute to Ron and a condolence to Ann,turned sour last night. It was shameful.

The usual unprincipled one started it. He has no shame. No honor and should get the back of the hand from all. "If you feed them, they will come". He should have been ignored after the initial slapdown.

Sam is another matter. He is a sick individual who needs to be pitied, then ignored. He won't debate himself. He needs professional help.

Ann,some of us appreciate your devotion to the man and know how you must feel. We have all lost someone near and dear to us and hurt with you. God Bless Ron ...and you.

Vietnam Senators
As the Vietnam war wound down, several senators including H.H. Humphery met with North Vietnamese officials in France to discuss "Peace Talks". They supposedly arranged for 'peace in our time'. We pulled out the troops. About two weeks before we finished getting all the troops out, North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam. Congress insisted so the rest of the troops left South Vietnam to its fate.

I was reading my daughter's history book in high school some time back and discovered, according to it, that "the military lost the war in Vietnam but the heroic Senators managed to bravely forge a truce that lasted long enough to save the soldiers from death".

I haven't been that p**sed off in years. Brave? Heroic? That's what they are teaching the young people now? They should have been shot for treason!

Well said
Thank you, Anne. One of the nicest memorials I have ever read. God bless you and keep you, Ron.

God Bless Ron
And God Bless you, Ann for showing us this side of you. I am so sorry for your loss. It seems like the good ones are needed in heaven and leave us too soon.

Maybe Ron can do more for us from heaven because God knows we need help.

Great tribute
Ann - your loving tribute to your friend Ron Silver was touching. Your expression of your love for a brave man brought tears. You are lucky to have known him and he will be missed. People who believe you are a heartless she devil think you are uncapable of sentiment like this but I knew you had it in ya. Only the good die young but Ted Kennedy lives forever!

Publius4254
you are correct. I am ashamed of piling on and extend my apologies for allowing myself to be diverted from the spirit of the thread.

Beautiful Tribute
There are too few men like Ron Silver. He will be missed. Thank you for the window into his life.

Ron Silver was
a great actor - wonderful in Enemies, a Love Story - and a great person. I did not know about his illness. I am one Jew who certainly would have prayed for his recovery. I thought that Ann was a bit self righteous with her "Christians are praying for you. . . " comment. Americans should have prayed for Ron to recover regardless of their religion. Ron Silver, RIP.

MR.Silver you soar with the angels, and for Ann God be with you as you mourn the lost of a dear friend.....As for Ranger29,my Gradnfather use to say that people have the right to free speach, they don't however have the right to be heard or listened to.

Mrs. Paddy
No need to apologize. I understand the desire to engage in debate, and I do so enjoy the debates that we have here on Townhall, but this is not the thread on which to do it. This thread started out with some very touching expressions of sympathy, even from Ranger29, but quickly went downhill when liberals, including Ranger, just couldn't resist making their digs. There is a time and a place for vigorous debate, but not here and not now.

Mr. Silver's reception of Holy Communion
I admired Ron Silver and his commitment to objective, rather than subjective, thought.

This statement by Ann troubles one, however:
"On Sundays when we had communion, Ron would pop the host in his mouth as soon as the tray passed him, approvingly observing that matzo was served at church."

It should be noted that St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11:27 - 32:
"Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying. If we discerned ourselves, we would not be under judgment; but since we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world."

WOW
45caliber, a bit off topic?? Anne, I am very sorry for your loss. Ron is now a soldier in God's army. Sam, as a fellow Michigan resident I feel I am allowed to tell you that you are a complete dope and yes, HE is the ONE! Michigan is truly a beautiful state that is going through some very rouch times. Forget Detroit as the politicians there are dragging THAT city to the cesspool. The rest of Michigan is great!

Honor
Thank you, Ann -
This is one of the most thoughtful and beautiful recognitions an individual could ask for. Ron Silver is a class act, and men like him are few and far between. He is a role model for men and women. Sometimes when you share your heart, the "little" people simply want to pull it out, they can't agree to disagree.

some people just don't understand awsome
that was a pretty cool story

A class act
Ann,

You never cease to impress.

This is a beautiful tribute and eulogy.

Please accept my condolences on your loss.

THE ANTI LIBERAL ZONE
One HARD-HITTING video from Thomas Paine up and ANOTHER essay WITH VIDEO on the Friends of Comrade Maobama.

Eat it libs.

Very touching article
I too echo the sentiments of those passing on their condolences for your loss of a good friend. Those kind of friends are truly a gift from God.

R.I.P. Ron
A wonderful tribute to a great American.

P.S. Sam in MI does not speak for the whole state of Michigan. He only proves that each state has their share of morons.

RIP, Macombe
(Silver's role in "Timecop")

A Gem Buried in a Hollywood Mudslide…
That was Ron Silver.

What a beautiful eulogy by Ann Coulter… And the lefties say WE are heartless.

Ron was a good actor who just couldn't fake it in life… he just could not continue the act 24-7. A true actor knows when the performance is over, and when real life is to resume.

Unfortunately most Hollywood actors never want to leave the stage. Most want the fantasies to continue after the curtain has closed and the encore bows have been taken. They are so narcissistic they believe their own publicists hype about them.

Hollywood lost me years ago, and it would take a lot of Ron Silvers in Hollywood to ever win me back. I don't see that happening in my lifetime.

We Had Far Too Little
of Ron Silver. What I heard and what I saw sure hinted at a very great mind and soul, but it was so little. May he rest in peace. My condolences on the loss of your dear friend.

Ron my Hero
I'll never forget when I first learned that Ron was not your usual cookie cutter Hollywood Liberal. What a joy to know that there remains a ray of hope in that vast wasteland of intolerance. To those that castigated him and dissed him I have nothing but complete and total contempt. Maybe some day soon Jews and in particular, Israeli's will finally realize that Democrats are not their true ally.

Ron Silver Tribute
Ann:
You never cease to amaze me. You, Laura, and Monica are my heroines. I so appreciated the stand that I think of all of the libs in Hollywood and the crap they dish out on their soapbox and wonder how much of it is acting and how much of it is geniune. You have to know they can't watch themselves because any fool would be propelled to SHUT UP. Ron Silver was a hero, no doubt. It takes a hero to stand for what is right and take a chance on losing everything. I think a lot about Kurt Cameron and the bravery he exibits. God has seen through the BS and eally blessed Kurt and what another geniune guy. Again Ann, Thanks.

Ann Coulter
I extend to you my deepest and humblest sympathy on you loss. Don’t weep for Ron, REJOICE for him. He is in a place where his pain is GONE!

Vaya Con Dios, Ms. Coulter

From Ron's friend
In the wake of 9/11, Silver transformed himself from a liberal darling to a libertarian antagonist to many of his former political allies. He supported Giuliani for president and attended the Republican convention as an honored guest. Some shook their heads in wonder. Others knew that Ron's was a mind that was always seeking, no matter what the cost to his career or social status.

Rest in peace, Ron. A great actor, great thinker, great father and great friend. - Alec Baldwin

RIP Ron
TYVM for a moving tribute, Ann! Ron Silver was a man who stood his ground with intelligence and conviction.
Wobbly(wump)Wanger, Florida Dumb and Sam: care to actually stay on subject? You're clueless screeds only highlight your ignorance and your disrespect for the dead only showcases your complete absence of common decency. GET A LIFE!
LouLouise: Being a native son of Michigan, I can say the lib-tard population centers may well be cesspools, but the majority of the state is wonderful! Come visit soon!

In a storm, cows turn their back to the storm and walk away from it. Buffaloes face the storm and walk into it. That is why they get such THICK hair on their chest and shoulder in the fall. My point is that Ron Silver was a STUD Buffalo in a MONSTROUS herd of Hollywood Liberal Cattle.

RIP Ron
You will be missed.

David on "the breaking of bread"
Hang with me past this next multi-part addendum to my original to Mariner (Mariner's was like the 2nd post, mine was something like 50 later, the numbers aren't showing on my screen)

and I'll give you an alternative view of The Lord's Supper and "THE BREAD".

mick

Sam

Sam drools, "Welcome to my neighborhood CNN. Welcome to great state of Michigan, Home of tolerance and technology."

There's "stupid" and then there's you, Sam: Stupid.

A further reflection on my
gentle (at least it was meant gently) rebuke of Mariner’s “take one off” comment.

[Mariner’s was like number 2 on the thread, mine to him was like 50 later, sorry but the numbers and times are no longer popping up on my screen.]

As to the INTELLECTUAL deepness of this personal eulogy and it’s RIGHT to be considered POLITICAL COMMENTARY, for that is what it IS ...

[consider that at ONE (of many) Levels Ann’s column is an examination of the PRINCIPLE of BEING what one IS, of “To thine own self be true”, and beneath that, of the Nature of Truth and a POLITICAL Life Truly Lived. Of HONESTY and Integrity in Intellectual and Moral Discourse, and In Politics]

...note the real point to Silver’s Political, Intellectual, and Moral Life and Character was his INDIVIDUALISM. One can Argue, quite cogently and effectively (Truthfully as it were) that THAT is what AMERICANISM IS--the Principle of the Free INDIVIDUAL.

[Note, that Americanism is thus the True Name of Reagan Conservatism]

Note that Silver’s ENEMIES (for that is what they WERE, and enemies of All Free Men, of Humanity) were essentially, The MOB, The Herd, The “In” Crowd, The “Hip”
[do a little research on THAT etymology sometime–can you say “druggie!”?], “The Cool Kids”. Note that their Political Principle is Solely (MERELY) that of The COLLECTIVE (which is to say The MOB).

end part one, part two continues.

Thanks Ann
For this wonderful tribute and telling article on liberal hatred. I have lung cancer, stage 4, inoperable. I am taking chemo, which is very difficult. I used to be a member of AA, but after I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, people in AA around where I live began to shun me. You see most of them are brain-washed libs. They hate God, while espousing "god". None of the liberals I know (with 1 exception) has offered any help or compassion now that I am sick. It's th hateful intolerant Christian consrvatives who have drawn to my side. I can fully empathise with what Ron went through.

Deranged 29
Your bio was interesting but you left out the part which accounts for your screwed up world view. Or, just when and for what reason did your lug nuts fall off?
