Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Democrats' "Fake-Out America" adviser, Berkeley linguistics professor George Lakoff, must be beside himself. Despite Lakoff's years spent training Democrats to "frame" their language to stop scaring Americans, B. Hussein Obama was caught on tape speaking candidly to other liberals in San Francisco last week.

One minute Obama was bowling in Pennsylvania with nice, ordinary people wearing "Beer Hunter" T-shirts, and the next thing you know, he was issuing a report on the psychological traits of normal Americans to rich liberals in San Francisco.

Obama informed the San Francisco plutocrats that these crazy working-class people are so bitter, they actually believe in God! And not just the 12-step meeting, higher power, "as you conceive him or her to be" kind of God. The regular, old-fashioned, almighty sort of "God."

As Obama put it: "(T)hey get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The rich liberals must have nearly fainted at the revelation that the denizens of small towns in Pennsylvania have absolutely no concern for the rich's ability to acquire servants from Mexico at a reasonable price.

We don't know much about Obama's audience, other than that four fundraisers were held on April 6 at the homes of San Francisco's rich and mighty, such as Alex Mehran, an Iranian who went into daddy's business and married an IBM heiress, and Gordon Getty, heir to the Getty Oil fortune.

It is not known whether any of Getty's three illegitimate children attended the Obama fundraiser -- which turned out to be more of a McCain fundraiser -- but photos from the event indicate that there were a fair number of armed (and presumably bitter) policemen providing security for the billionaire's soiree.

In 1967, Gordon sued his own father to get his hands on money from the family trust -- and lost. So Gordon Getty knows from bitter. It's a wonder he hasn't turned to guns, or even to immigrant-bashing. God knows (whoever he is) there are enough of them working on his home.

These are the sort of well-adjusted individuals to whom Obama is offering psychological profiles of normal Americans, including their bizarre theories about how jobs being sent to foreign countries and illegal-alien labor undercutting American workers might have something to do with their own economic misfortunes.

It's going to take a lot of "framing" for Democrats to recast Obama's explanation to San Francisco cafe society that gun ownership and a belief in God are the byproducts of a psychological disorder brought on by economic hardship.

It is an article of faith with the Democrats that they must fool Americans by simulating agreement with normal people. The winner of the Democratic primary is always the candidate who does the best impersonation of an American.

But then, after all their hard work making believe they're into NASCAR and God, some Democrat invariably slips and lets us know it's all a big fake-out. They're like a gay guy trying to act straight who accidentally refers to Brad Pitt as "yummy!"

The Democrats' last phony American (or perhaps I should say "faux American") was John Kerry, who famously said that if "you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Kerry claimed this was not an accurate reflection of his feelings about the troops, despite a four-decade record of contempt for them, including accusing American troops of being baby-killers during the Vietnam War.

Rather, he said, it was a "botched joke." (In Kerry's defense, he was the opening act for Randi Rhodes' stand-up comedy show at the time.) But as with his military records, Kerry refused to allow his joke-writer to release any of the jokes cut from that speech.

In case there was any confusion, other Democrats immediately clarified their position by going on television and saying -- as Rep. Charlie Rangel did -- that our troops are people who don't have the option of having "a decent career."

These Democrats can't even pull off attending a NASCAR race without embarrassing themselves. In August 2004, Kerry exclaimed: "Who among us does not love NASCAR?" And then, about six months ago, Democratic congressional staffers to Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., sent out a memo urging aides going to NASCAR races to get inoculated before attending.

Obama had been so careful until now, "framing" his message as "change" -- rather than partial birth abortion, driver's licenses for illegal aliens, tax hikes, socialized medicine and abandoning mandatory minimum prison sentences for federal crimes.

His message is "change" -- not that his wife has not been proud to be an American for most of her life.

He is for "change" -- and don't mind the crazy racist loon who has been Obama's spiritual mentor for two decades.

One can only hope that Obama got his shots before bowling in Altoona, Pa.

Ms. Coulter
That sound you hear is a slap loud enough to wake the dead!!

Thanks for the great column!!!

Is anyone surprised
That Obama is two faced about this just as he two faced about everything else? He's a typical America hating liberal who will say whatever it takes to get elected and then conveniently "forget" those promises that he "didn't mean to keep."
And of course the MSM will cover for him all the way by making excuses every time he's caught in a slip like this.

As usual Ann nails it again
Good morning to you YLG. I trust your day is going well.

Well stated Ann. Obama, like all liberals, looks down his nose at the common man who actually works and sacrifices for a living.
And as usual, when caught at it he'll lie like every other liberal and tell us we "misunderstood" him and/or what we heard isn't really what he said/meant.

Normal America

Obama wouldn’t know normal America if it were wrapped in arugula & served on a silver platter.

Key Points
"It's going to take a lot of "framing" for Democrats to recast Obama's explanation to San Francisco cafe society that gun ownership and a belief in God are the byproducts of a psychological disorder brought on by economic hardship.

It is an article of faith with the Democrats that they must fool Americans by simulating agreement with normal people. The winner of the Democratic primary is always the candidate who does the best impersonation of an American."

As many have written, many liberal politicians, especially those with microphones in front of them, like to find ways of saying, "You are stupid, you are inept, you need ME, vote for ME," without actually saying it, hoping many, having had desires and needs stirred, will vote for the liberals and hope for hand-outs (paid for by others). Obama slipped and actually said it.

Thank you, Ann, for shining a light on the sentiment of a liberal "leader."

G’day, YLG, et al!

For the Foundation (1 Cor. 3:11) of the Founders ><>

Western Patriot
Speaking for myself, I can't recall any hard, concrete promises he made. Most of his platitudes are made from spun sugar. As for the MSM, it took them a few days to "report" Mr. Obama's words, and they ended up burying it somewhere in the A sections!!

So, no, I'm not surprised at all.

Duck and cover!
People, even politicians, will always tell you who they really are. All you have to do is have a little patience, sit back, close your mouth, open your ears, and listen to them. What you have to do is totally tune out the inevitable spin follow-up when one of them has that unfortunate Freudian slip and reveals to one and all what they really think.

Apparently, Obamarama, et al, think we can be convinced that we didn't hear what we heard or see what we saw - much like the philandering husband who will deny, deny, deny, and tell you it's not what you think it is, even when caught with his pants around his ankles.

Duck and cover, kids, here comes the spin!

MSM and Clinton Missed the Point
I think it is funny how the MSM and Clinton missed the controversial point of Obama’s remarks… giving him an easy out.

1) There probably are quite a few middleclass and blue collar people who are bitter about what they see happening with the economy, society, outsourcing, immigration, etc. Obama is likely correct in his observation of bitterness.

2) The controversial part of Obama’s remarks involves the implication that religion and self-defense are a guttural retreat of unhappy people. The founding fathers thought so highly or religion and self-defense, that they made them the first two amendments to the US Constitution. In America, guns and religion are not bad things!

YLG
How true. What are O'Bama's plans for anything? All I have seen is the same rhetoric they have passed out since the 60's. It is amazing that this empty suit, do-nothing, "Present"-voting newby is a viable cnadidate for POTUS. He must have some kind of hook... BTW-It will be in the 60's here, how is it in the Republic of Texas?

BHO meeting with a wealthy Iranian???

NOPE! Not surprised in the least!

Also not surprised that the MSM hasn't even whispered about it!

Just sittin' back and watching this unfold! :-)

The next best part is going to be watching BHO explain Alex Mehran, AND how Colmes is going to sweep this under the rug...

Marines' Dad
Good morning!!!

Hope your day is going well, especially after the trouncing the Jazz received.... ;-)

I'm still trying to figure out how Mr. Obama can call himself one of the "little people", and compare himself to the average American. Call it my personal Purgatory.

I think Mr. Obama's idea of "sacrifice", is to drink Moet instead of Dom Perignon.

The Debate Last Night
Was fantastic, at least the 1st hour. To my surprise, ABC's panel really went after Obama on the slip ups, gaffes and sordid history that the MSM has been sheltering him from.

They nailed him on Guns and Religion, Ayers, and Wright. They left no stone unturned. When Obama tried to woo them and deflect a direct question, they persisted on him. When they finished with him, Hillary karate chopped him in the neck with a smile. She was smooth...so smooth. It was her show last night.

I am completely stunned ABC allowed a real debate and popped the magical bubble around Obama. The panel even seemed p*ssed at him, very much George.

They exposed him on the elitism, his double talk and full knowledge of Wright's sermons and yet never leaving him in 20 years, his relationship with Ayers who is a liberal English professor terrorist who bombed in the 70's the pentgon and said after 911 that the terrrorist didn't do enough.

If you didn't know Obama, you would think "Why is he running for president and how in the heck did he come this far?"

If you know Obama, you would've been please ABC had the guts to blow him out of the water.

If you love Obama, have you woken up yet?!

YLG writes: "I can't recall any hard,

concrete promises he made."

Well, he has promised to CHANGE the GREATEST country in the world....

Come to think of it, why would anyone in their right mind want to do something like THAT????

Obamanation!
This man far surpasses John Kerry in his elitism. Trying to explain away these demeaning comments regarding us common folk who cling to our religion and guns because we're bitter toward our country, he says he chose his words poorly but his meaning was the same. He just doesn't get it.

Thanks for pointing out, Ann, that an Obama nation would be an abomination!

Forgetting remarks
I wonder if Obama is hoping that people will forget some actual policy remarks the man made around the time of the Rev. Wright controversy.

Obama believes that talk alone, with no conceivable threat of violence, will placate Iran and North Korea and prevent them from building large weapons and wantint to use them on us.

Obama has stated (I heard him say this some weeks ago) that he wants to stop all research and development funding on "unproven" weapons systems. (Think about this for a second. Is there a single product of any type out there that is "proven" BEFORE R&D?)

Obama wants to unilaterally cut our nuclear and conventional forces with the goal of using that to leverage countries like Iran, China, DPRK, Russia -- nuclear nations with varying degrees of hostility toward us -- into cutting back their own programs. That's kind of like being in a standoff and dropping your weapon while the other guy has you in his sights and a buddy with a sniper rifle.

CVN65
Good morning!!!

As far as I can tell, he is riding on a magic carpet ride...courtesy of the MSM and ignorant voters.

So far, we are at a cool 59*, but our high is going to be around 83*.

Don't be jealous, my friend. In a few weeks it will feel like I live five blocks from the Sun!

;-)

Hail to Karl
Obama was saying that bitter Americans in small town USA use religion as a crutch to get them through the hard times - to numb them from the pain of their wretched existence. Hmmm . . . what does that remind you of? "Religion is the opium of the masses, " said Marx. Obama was saying the same thing. Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy about the probably Democratic nominee for the Presidency?

Anne
You are DEAD ON!!!!!!!

He DID make that promise! That is one of the reasons my neighbors have switched their vote from Obama to fill-in-the-blank. Their Obama picket sign left in the garbage this past Tuesday!

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Robert
In reading your 9:03 with its many "typos", it is apparent you've been awake since midnight waiting to be the first one to post your usual drivel and ad hominem attack directed at the columnist.

BTW, as a service to your entertainment value here at Townhall, I have been concerned about the software problems you have been experiencing which has caused you to have to abandon threads that have become too long for your outdated "virus checker."

I believe you'd find this problem could be solved by first installing "Firefox" as your web browser, a free product produced by "Mozilla", which is far superior to Internet Explorer (a Google search will get you to their homepage).

Then I recommend you install the latest version of Norton Anti-Virus or an equivalent McAfee product - both of which are state of the art and do not slow down the browsers refresh capabilities, regardless of length.

the economics of bitterness...
are only credible if you are a complete materialist, which Obama is, and a Marxist to boot. It's about time he felt the boot, too.

The Post-Debate Focus Group on Fox
Last night on the Hannity/Colmes show they did the Dem focus group thing they always do on a debate night. I was absolutly shocked when the group (all Dems) was asked, "If Obama wins the nomination, how many of you will vote for McCain?" About a third of the members of the focus group raised their hands. The same number raised their hands when asked about the Hildebeast winning.

More and more this election is showing shades of 1968. At this stage in the campaign, with McCain mostly off the front page due to his lack of an opponent, he's already winning the White House. And with the deep and unreconcilable divisions among the Dems, their convention ought to look even better than Chicago '68. But then, I'm just another bitter American, clinging to my guns and religion - what do I know!

Boutte
Wow.

You sure have a thing about transvestites, don't you?

"Projection" can rear its ugly head when it's least expected.

BTW, your post is vile and offensive and deserves to be relegated to the trash heap of history - and flagged accordingly.

An out of touch...
...politician who only knows how to relate with Hollywood-types.

Everyone who's suprised raise their hand.

Anybody.....?

Don't be bashful, just put up your hand...

Didn't think so.

All I can say is...
he's got a whole lotta framin' to do...

BO for the Dems
The reality in American Politics, is that we Do look out for the best interest of the American people, whom we depend. While the Democrats want to make the average joe think they are out for him. On votes to protect American Freedoms, the Democratic leaders have felt it better to support the AFRICAN-american consencious that only criminals carry guns, so on to the facts.
Nearly 80% of all major crime involving a fire arm is perpitrated by AFRICAN-american peoples. The first person to settle and arguement with a gun, are AFRICAN-american Peoples. Those most addament about recinding the Death penalty are AFRICAN-american. The biggest users of the welfare system, which was installed to aid injured workers families until they could get to work again, are and have been AFRICAN-american, who continue to breed like rabbits, and polute the educational system with under achiever scores so their students look equal to the others.
AFRICAN-american peoples con NOT relate to the middleclass working peoples because they never work, are descendants of royalty from way back what ever, and say every Black American is an Uncle Tom or white puppet. Why do you thing BO chose law as a practice, you do not really work but get paid one heck of alot of money.

Bitter roots
Let's review - Obama says bitter Americans cling to religion. But hasn't Obama professed to being a religious person? Oh, wait! I guess he does know from bitterness, considering the bitter "sermons" he's been hearing in his church for 20 years.

Latest DHS/FBI Progress Report
for Operation "Naval Aviator" is that they've observed the target acting extremely paranoid when he leaves his house and watching over his shoulder a lot trying to make sure he's not seen.

He also frequently watches his mirrors and changes directions without warning. Taking vastly circuitous routes to all destinations.
Obviously trying to shake anyone who might be following him.

FBI adds that he's reported being "stalked," by people driving unmarked L.E. vehicles, to their Denver field office.

Smile Chuckles, You're on Candid Camera

Funny girl Y.
Lucky for you I'm not all that big of a Jazz fan, or I'd have to make a note of that "burn" and have YOU "stalked" too. ROFLMAO!!

The polls
still indicate that a huge number of "ordinary Americans" support BHO. If this is true after his remarks denigrating them, maybe they are as dumb as he thinks they are.

Looks like a Monica Lewinsky...
wannabe in the picture attached to this article. She is just over and to the left of Obama's left shoulder.

Duke
You are correct about the convention - it's going to be a hoot unless Hillary drops out beforehand.

What is truly hilarious is that just a few short months ago, the Dems were absolutely positive winning the presidential election was a foregone conclusion.

There are some Dems who are hoping for a brokered convention so they can draft - [drumroll] - Al Gore!

I'd pay to watch THAT!

Shells
Well said---I agree 100%. Finally MSM brought him to task. Read Tom Shales Washington Post today!!!!

Ann, Not just Partial Birth Abortion..
but live birth abortion is something Obama supported and voted for in IL. Disgusting. Barbaric.

Primus54, Marines' Dad
Primus54: I seriously doubt HRC would drop out of anything, especially something like the convention. It isn't in her to quit, not even if she is dead last. However, the DNC should put the convention on Pay-Per-View. That way, they can recoup the losses generated by this campaign, and provide us with great entertainment.

Marines' Dad: Sorry, couldn't help it! However, two things can help make it easier: a) The Spurs have never won in an even year, and b) Shaq seems to have their number this year. So, you may have a chance to gloat in a few days!!

Shells & Robod
Agreed. Now, let's get those same questions asked of Hillary. She has stalled and hidden and the MSM has refused to ask her any tough or embarrassing questions. The effect has been that if such a question is asked (rarely), she gets to say it's "old news."

The way the MSM acted with the Bosnia incident was nauseating. They acted shocked, shocked I tell you, that Hillary was proven to lie about something. Yeah, what a revelation. If the MSM wasn't generally in the tank for Obama, they would have helped her cover that up too.

Robert Ray, democrat prosecutor, says she lied under oath.
Cattle futures.
VRWC nonsense when her husband had a record of fooling around.
Running the "Bimbo Eruption" team and destroying the lives of those who dared speak. Billing records showing up in a part of the WH that only 12 people had access to-conveniently 2 days after the statute of limitations had passed.

I have a few dozen more questions. Don't you?

YLG
Good Morning!

I agree - Hillary isn't going anywhere - but a truly screwed up nominating process is sure to occur.

Who knows, maybe the Dems will draft John McCain as their own!

Well, Coward
I tried.

But I guess you need an excuse to run and hide sometimes - and there are only so many "river patrols" a "US Navy Captain" can be expected to lead, eh?

Your typical God fearing gun nuts
It is obvious that Obama has been trying to sway Coolter from supporting Clinton and switching that support to himself.

YLG
Good Morning to you

"As far as I can tell, he is riding on a magic carpet ride...courtesy of the MSM and ignorant voters. "

Speaking of ignorant voters, think about all the voting age indoctrinated college students who are absolutly gaga over this guy. Hopefully they will continue their apathy towards the polictical system and stay home on election night. If not and they end up voting in large numbers, they will certainly end up voting for Obama. I really wonder if these kids have any idea what a vote for Obama will actually mean for our country. God Help Us!!!

LIbs are optimists
With all the socialist (if not pure Marxist) political actions B. Hussein Obama has exhibited while in office, his followers are still so optimistic about what "change" he is going to do, it reminds me of the overly optimistic child who was placed in a room with a six foot tall pile of horse manure and was found by his parents digging his way through the pile. When they asked him why he was digging through the smelly horse manure, he replied "there's got to be a pony in here somewhere". So it is with Obama followers. Despite all the manure this guy spreads, they are still looking for the pony.

sheepdog
I don't have far to look for those kids. Two of them are right here in my family. My nephew and my niece will be first time voters this election cycle, and truthfully, they seem to be enchanted by Obama.

So, being the concerned citizen, and aunt, that I am, I asked them to tell me what Obama wants for them and our country, what his voting record is like, and what his "programs" will cost the taxpayers, which includes them. Thing is, they didn't know, so I looked it up for them. My nephew is no longer voting Democrat, and my niece is now undecided.

Still have a ways to go, but it looks like Obama is doing the work for me!

BTW, Coward
I wonder how it is that other active duty armed forces posters don't seem to have any problem with their "UNCLE" supplied "virus checkers".

Or do you have some extra protection to prevent "THRUSH" from infiltrating?

Primus54
Good morning!!

As far as I know, having a virus checker in your PC does not prevent you from using the "SpellCheck" tab, does it?

Or at least, a dictionary, if one is so disposed.

;-)

YLG, sheepdog, et al
Well, I see P-I-C Rockhead J. Squirrel is wasting a lot of bandwidth with his usual inanities, insanities, and idiocies.

Beware the Latte Line
Seriously. The GOP consistently derides the patrons of Starbucks and other gormet coffee houses as being effete and elite. But surely there are tens of millions of us who like to reward ourselves with a good cup of coffee, or latte or frapachino, etc.

What if the latte drinkers vote en masse in the coming presidential election, taking umbrage at being made fun of an put down, deciding that the GOP is not an association they'd like to be associated with, voting en masse for Obama. Wouldn't Obama win in a walk? Why there might even be some Starbucks in modest size "small towns" in the midwest. Is it smart to p.o the latter drinkers in America? The Martha Stewart crowd?

Seriously. Am I wrong?

Lumberjack7392
Good morning!

I hope you are feeling better today.

I believe he is a little peeved, because someone beat him to posting first at the thread....

;-)

YLG
Well, YLG, according to the Coward, he can't be bothered with spell-checker for the "mice" he engages here.

Sounds a lot like an elitist, leftist snob, doesn't he?

But, no, he's a "Reagan Republican"! Hahaha!

Ronaldus must be turning over in his grave...

There's an old saying:

"Sorry, your actions are so loud I can't hear what you're saying."

Certainly applies to "Chuckles".

Yes, that always irks him. Maybe one day he'll wake up and realize that Norton and McAfee make pretty good ANTIVIRUS software, as does AntiVir, and even Yahoo.

One could apply the same logic to your recurrent fixation on Ann's physical characteristics.

Sounds like the Pot calling the Kettle a "nappy headed ho" to me.

Then again, one could extend the argument to your Hinkley like obsession with your arch-nemesis W. In that case, one would postulate unrequited feelings of "yummyness" from you to George. Hmm, you drove what Yeager called "yblow jobs"--ie Jets, W drove jets, we got some weird homoerotic Iceman-Maverick thing going on here?

Hell, Roberto, if all you really want to do is dump/hump on W, why, as a SELF-IDENTIFIED GOPper,
have you got one on for COULTER?

Or is it that since W rejected you, you have, it best soap opera tradition, turned to his rival, another bjetjock--Mac the Knife?

Ann proves Mac is no Conservative, Roberto takes umbrage on behalf of his beloved--yeah that's working.

See, Roberto you never DEFEND Mac on Shamnesty, McFeingeld, Gang14, Commiequeer like Rich Bashing, No Tax Cuts, Cut our own engery throat by not drilling. No you NEVER argue on BEHALF of Mac the Knife or on behalf of anything, you only, like a good YummieYam, do the beech routine on your squeeze's rivals.

Like Obama, you just can't hide your true feelings.

Proud Liberal
Well, speaking for myself, I don't drink their coffee because it isn't to my taste. I prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee. As for Starbucks, it is a great place to meet friends and talk about anything and everything.

I don't think most voters would vote en masse for Obama based on general assumptions some people have about the coffee they are drinking. That would make them rather shallow, wouldn't it? Or is that your point? They are shallow, and would vote for Obama because some conservatives generalized about their taste in coffee?

By the way
Proud Liberal....Want a Good cup of coffee? Go to Mac and Dons, nationally they beat the socks off Starbucks.

Great Article, it was $200.00 Merlot
or Cabernet Sauvignon's fault, too much, before he speech.

Hey Robert
You think that Obama will cut spending on the unproven Global Warming shame?

Or how about unproven embryonic stem cell research?

Or what about cutting funding to schools that teach unproven Darwinism?

I mean, as you point out, he's so concerned about "unproven" (read: The military has proven that with a little more time, it will help keep the US safe from the terrorists that Obama sympathizes with.) weapon systems, what about the rest of the "unproven" garbage we're wasting hundreds of billions of dollars on?

Ann, what a great article
Just goes to show you, that all you need to do to beat lib is let him keep talking.

LOL

When it comes to going to Starbucks, there are two reasons I don't. First I never acquired a taste for drinking coffee, and second even if I did I'm stupid enough to spend $4.50 for a plain cuppa joe.

Coulter wrong, Obama NAILS debate!
Unfortunately Ann only hears the voices in her own head. She doesn't hear anything anyone else says.

Obama explained it well. His "off the record, inartful" statement left a false impression that he thinks voters hold on to these wedge issues ONLY because they are frustrated economically.

For most voters their positions on these issues are not linked their economic position in life. Their position is based on the culture they are part of, not their socio-economic status.

They will tell you emphatically that if they won the lottery, got a large inheritance, or a fantastic new job with great pay, they WOULD NOT ALTER their position on the wedge issues to change one bit. There are plenty of rich, educated republicans in urban areas who agree with their positions, just perhaps not as fervently.

The real issue is the dismal Bush record on the economy. Since 2000:

1) Real (adjusted for inflation) household income DELCINED for the poor (-4.6%), lower middle class (-3.1%), middle class (-2.5%), and upper middle class (-0.7%).

2) Only the top 20% of households have had real income increase (+1.0%).

3) Since 1960, the Bush administration is one of four in which the poverty rate has increased. The other three are Ford, Carter, and GHW Bush. Interestngly, of the four, three are republicans.

http://jec.senate.gov/charts/Bush%20Economic%20Record.html# family

Given such a dismal result it makes no sense to vote for four more years of Bush's failed economic policies. You, I, and others who choose our professions well, work hard, make good decisions, and have a little luck do well in nearly any economy. Political trends are based on what is experienced by the majority of people though. Given the above facts, it is easy to see why people are voting for "change."

YLG
Conservatives are trying to demonize a group of American citizens, like Bush senior did with "card carrying ACLU members." That's obvious, easily "seen through". It's a matter of sincerity and tactics. If these tactics turn off the latte drinkers - not because they drink latte - but because they wouldn't want to be associated with a political party who employs such divisive tactics, well.....?

So Much For The Trifecta
A year ago the DNC was hoping that the 2008 elections would deliver the difficult to obtain political trifecta (White House, filibuster proof Senate, 70-100 seat House majority). They had the momentuem, the money, the energy, and The Candidate (Hillary). Oh Happy Day!!

They may still yet win in November (50-50 at best), but it looks like who ever comes out of this mess will not have much in the form of coat-tails. The Dems will still pick up seats in the Senate, but now thier increases will be limited to 3-5 seats at best. The House is a toss-up, and the GOP may even win back some of those seats in Red Districts they lost in 2006.

In that case, a Hillary or Obama will have the worst of both worlds; they will run the Goverment but have not mandate. The GOP will in all likelyhood change to a more agressive form of leadership (many of the liberal GOP politicians are retiring -the net effect will be a less accomadting GOP minority). Without a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, the Dems will see what its like to be on the receiving end of vitriolic partisanship. They will get blamed for everything.

The economy is moving into a recession thanks in large part to a liberal/greedy Wall St and a feckless Bush. A weak dollar, rock bottom interest rates, high inflation will force the next President to revalue the Dollar and lobby the Fed Chairman to raise interest rates. The next President will also have to figure out a way to both increase military spending and cut entitlements, not to mention figure a way to restore economic growth without risking inflation (can anyone say supply side?). Both Hillary and Obama are reflexive economic socialists. I cannot envision them cutting taxes, domestic spending, and revaluing the dollar (too much short term pain).

In short, the Dems are about to a political abyss they will not likely to return from. Again, there is still a good chance either of them can defeat McCain, but both will likely by one term wonders.

Yes, you are very wrong. No one is, "deriding the patrons of Starbucks and other gormet coffee houses as being effete and elite."

How do you even come up with this weak and pathetic angle? Do you think Starbucks only exists on the coasts? Do you think paying $4 for a cup of joe somehow makes you "enlightened"?

They may or may not be enlightened, but one thing is sure, their wallets are lightened after visiting Starbucks.

Don't forget that
this little speech was NOT for public consumption. It was recorded on a cell phone and leaked for 2 possible reasons: a) misguided intentions by a rabid, out-of-touch supporter for dissemination to equally rabid, out-of-touch fellow travelers; b) a stealth HRC supporter who knew a filet of (shoe) sole moment when they saw it. I suspect all future such fundraisers to inner circle types will have a mandatory electronic device check at the door.

As for Hillary and the MSM missing the main points (johnnyp @ 8:52am); OF COURSE they can't see those points- they agree wholeheartedly with them! The Clinton camp is just smart enough to not admit it even among themselves (demonstrating it with their actions and arguments are another thing). The Clinton's have to be thinking, "How can we be losing to someone who's not smart enough to avoid admitting that?"

Just goes to show the nastiest fights are between siblings, even (or maybe especially) idealogical siblings.

swamper 9:53
Swamper I wouldn't vote for Mac the Knife if you put a gun to my head. Same difference, McAin't is the death of Reaganism. Rush called it, then remained in denial of the logical consequences.
The GOP Rockafella Gilt Bird Cabin Robber Barons are counting on Conservatives cutting their own throat. If McAin't wins they will KNOW they can shove Shamnesty, Gang14, McFeingeld ...

(Now Mac wants to SHIELD reporters who are accessories to crimes--same as Hillybama--he's JUST like them folks--a Washington Elitist--he feels about you the way Hussien does!--the way ROBERTO does)

...No drilling in ANWR etc down your throats and you will DO NOTHING! NO amount of outraged phone calls sponsored by Rush and Sean will make a BIT of DIFFERENCE because they will KNOW you will roll over and rump up in November.

You want Reaganism to live, you MUST make sure McAin't CAN'T win--he's going to GET the moronic mythical moderate middle the GOP is playing to--the continued slide into Socialism Buckley predicted. He will get all those "Reagan Dems" (the non-commiequeer dems--what there is of em)
because the Commiequeer Candidate will be SO commiequeer as to be unacceptable to them.

If McAin't LOSES because Conservatives DID NOT CUT THEIR OWN THROATS THEN the GOPper Robber Barons will know they have NO HOPE WITHOUT CONSERVATIVES because this election is the BEST CASE scenario they will ever get for running in the mythical moronic middle against a far left whacko.

I say let em run to the mythical moronic middle and LOSE! That's a WIN for Reaganism. Roberto is the only thing you need to know about what a McAin't vote buys you.

YLG
Good morning

I'm wondering, do you think Coulter's right when she saysthat Obama thinks "they actually believe in God because they are so bitter"? Obama made the same speech before S.F. and seems to say, which is true, people who loose their jobs and get no help from the government, take refuge in knowing God and going to church. We all know he is a big church goer himself. Thanks and now I have to run off to work.

Proud Liberal
All I'm saying is that, if I really enjoyed a cup of Starbucks coffee, I couldn't care less if someone identified me as an elitist. Life is too short not to enjoy the little things in life, like a cup of coffee.

As I said, I was speaking for myself. I have yet to hear anyone make that generalization about Starbucks latte drinkers. I have heard someone make a generalization about "gun-toting God nuts", however.

Obama and Carter
Obama's been having a tough time lately, including an inquiry as to whether he would criticize Carter for meeting with Hamas. Of course, Obama declined to comment.

It brings to mind the unnerving realization that, at this point in the 1976 election, there were few clues that Carter would be a horrific president. Compare that with Obama (or Hillary, for that matter). Either could turn out to be worse than Carter!

Carter's latest, in case you missed it, is a treasure:

“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.”

Proud Liberal
My wife hits Starbucks 4-5 times per week. When we're driving around as a family, my kids start chanting "Green Sign, Green Sign" (sounding like the little creature from "Lord Of The Rings") whenever we pass one. I also enjoy an occaisional white chocolate mocha or hazlenut latte. Guess what....we believe in the Constitution, are solid conservatives, and don't buy any of the bovine excrement that the libs are selling.

If I'm going to spend $4.50+ for a drink, it had better be a helluva a lot stronger than coffee.

Obama in the debate...
last night kept chiding people for being more interested in his actions than his words.

He seems to think questioning his associations with known haters of America should be of no concern when we cast our ballots in November. Now we find out that one of those CA fat cats is Iranian. Maybe none of the things we now know about him would be important if they were isolated but taken all together they indicate that Obama is saying one thing to the unwashed masses and planning something quiet different should he gain the Presidency.

The main theme of his responses last night was chiding voters not to judge him for what he does and who he associates with but to just listen to his words. He was perturbed that the panel kept asking him unimportant questions.

I thought Hillary had a better night overall than BHO. Hill admitted that she has a lot of baggage but Obama seems to think his baggage is none of our business.

ther oblahma vs the missus clinton
once the campaign started to get into full stride the dims realized there was little to like about the missus clinton. There is no doubt she is probably qualified to be someone's chief of staff but fails to unite people behind her campaign. The oblahma started out as a likable fellow. True he was a true leftist but he mumbled reassuring words that lured the sheeple wary of the return bubba to his banner. But alas his balloon burst by the kooks he keeps close at hands as friends, advisors and mentors. His wife turns out to be an angry victimcrat and once off script the oblahma can't help but insert his feet into his mouth. His elitist distain for the great unwashed in the hinderlands comes as no surprise. Coastal elites have always looked down on everything between the coasts as akin nothing more than bible reading, guntoting louts who would rather drink beer and eat barbeque while watching nascar. The truly enlightened understand literature, the theater and can discuss the qualities of fine wines and the pleasures of the palate but with their trust funds fail to understand what working folks go through daily. But just as the oblahma needed to attend wright's church to find his black identity, he joined the coastal elitists to find his american identity. The blacks were leery of the oblahma when he first arrived in chcago as nothing more than a phoney. Americans should realize that he is still a phoney and nothing more that a pretender to the presidentcy

Poignancy personified.

My family has a standing order to lock me up if they ever catch me applying any bumper sticker to my car. But if I can get one that says:

I will summarily rescind the order and cover my vehicle with them.

Roberts new business
Someone said Robert announced the opening of his new business: "Kneepads 'R' Us".

Robert is best known for collaborating with HalD on writing a chapter in "Sex For Dummies" on 'Manual Orgasm'.

The temperature in the kitchen.

Will the real Barrak Obama please stand up.

Amazingly... he's doing just that.

What we are all witnessing... is the slow but steady unraveling of the carefully crafted but false public persona of a man who does not want us to know - who, and what, he is.

Because Obama knows that if we saw him for who he really is... he would NOT be the next president.

And now he says that he wants us all to stop focusing on his gaffes and on his associations, because, well... that would not fit so nicely with his finely tailored image.

All right, let's comply. But Obama is still asking America to elect a politician that is so far left as to be classified a true socialist, one who would bankrupt the country and put us all into harms way.

My simple prediction for this November...

...moderates will finally see Obama for who he is.
...and McCain wins big.

So, stay tuned.

And watch our moderates... and all those "bitter" small-towners... send this elitist charlatan packing.

Please stop making up facts.

From the US Census Bureau:

"Real median household income in the United States climbed between 2005 and 2006, reaching $48,200, according to a report released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

This is the second consecutive year that income has risen.

Meanwhile, the nation’s official poverty rate declined for the first time this decade, from 12.6 percent in 2005 to 12.3 percent in 2006"

Also, this is an interesting fact you obviously wouldn't use...

"Married-couple families had a poverty rate of 4.9 percent, compared with 28.3 (almost 6X higher!) percent for female-householder, no-husband-present families"

Which political party do you think has done the most to create these 4.1 million "no husband" families?

I've been watching all the democratic debates and I'll tell ya, I think they gave Hillary a wide berth this time on purpose.

Obama has been so soft gloved and insulated by the MSM during these debates and Hillary has been pig piled on.

As far as questioning Hillary's ethics and her lies....well, what's to question? It's like asking Frosty the Snowman if he's made of snow. She's a commie, and Obama is a commie, and I just enjoyed that the gloves came off on Obama and he waffled.

Taft
It's my opinion that devout people go to church and believe in God not out of bitterness, but out of love.

Obama's mistake was assuming that the only time we turn to God is when we need something from Him, or when something goes wrong in out lives.

Hope Obama didn't blow it - YET
I'm really hoping that Barack Obama's comments about us angry and bitter gun-toting, religious, anti-immigrant, anti-trade hillbillies doesn't wind up costing him the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. Because if he IS the party's nominee, I want him to be able to experience the full venting of us "angry and bitter" folks via the ballot box on November 4. And then on November 5, it will be Barack Obama himself who will be angry and bitter!

By the way, anyone notice a contradiction in Obama's own remarks made there in San Francisco? Both he and Hillary are campaigning against the very free-trade philosophy that took shape in Hillary's husband's presidency, under a Democrat-controlled Congress, with NAFTA. Yet in San Francisco, Obama claimed that being anti-trade is a sign of being angry and bitter! So by extension, since Obama himself apparently has the same issue with free trade that he accuses us "angry and bitter" small-town rubes of having, I guess that must mean that by his own words he himself is angry and bitter!

Wobbie the Coward hears his Mommy coming and has to log off PDQ or she won't let him watch SpongeBob or have Hot Chocolate.

But he's not a big church goer.

In a previous comment user Taft says, referring to Obama, "...we all know he is a big church goer himself."

Uh...no...

According to Jeremiah Wright's own recordings of his sermons, every one of his sermons included one or more of the very statements Obama claims never to have heard.

So how could Obama be a "big church goer" if he has never heard his pastor say any of the things he said from the pulpit?

If Obama is a big church goer, then he is also a big liar about not hearing the things his pastor preached.

If Obama did not hear his pastor say any of the things he claims not to have heard then Obama is lying about being a big church goer.

So which is it?

Either way, Obama is a confirmed liar of the highest order. Nice, another Democrat president who is a pathological liar -- whoops, that's redundant.

Liberalism is inherently elitist
The entire foundation upon which the modern liberal ideology is based is that the government is better able to look after the average American than that person is able to care for themself. Of course, it goes without saying that in order for this to be true, then the people “in government” must be “better” than the people they are charged with looking after.

So, when a liberal politician like B. Hussein Obama (or Hillary Clinton, for that matter) presents himself to the electorate as a candidate for public office, it is with the implicit understanding that he believes himself to be better than you, the average citizen.

If, in fact, you believe the average person is less capable of tending after their own care than you are, you also must recognize the futility of even debating the issue with those of lesser capacity. To them, it is like putting Einstein in a room full of fifth-graders to debate quantum physics. This mindset is what allows them to proceed with their agenda, even in the absence of popular support.

This also explains why Liberals go to such lengths to publicly disguise their true feelings and agenda. To them, deception and misdirection are thus justified as being for "the own good of" the very people being deceived.

Elitist Liberals
You gotta be kidding. This coming from the party that sponsors elitism. I don't know aobut you, but the wealthiest neighborhoods where I live are republican! Get a clue.

piety
Then you clearly don't live in New York or San Francisco or near Hollywood.

I am not making up facts. I am GIVING you facts. I cited my link. Furthermore this is not new news. Its a problem the republicans have been struggling with for some time.

You have to THINK to understand the information statistics convey, not just parrot the statistics like you are doing.

I did NOT say, as you imply, that real median household income for ALL households has gone down. I did not say it went up either.

READ my post before allowing your knee jerk reaction to bypass your brain. My point was clear:

The INTERESTING facts are about WHO has received household income increaes since 2000. The fact is that ALL the increase has gone to the top 20% (uppermost quintile) of all households ranked by income.

Disingenuous, or perhaps I could put it more kindly, naive, republicans like to obscure this by citing only changes in median household income for all households, as you did. This attempt to sugar coat the bitter pill of 8 years of republican misrule fails. That is why either Obama or Clinton has a shot at the white house. People are smart enough to look at their own wallets and figure out they don't have any more real money to spend, prices are going up, and they are working harder than ever.

Guess what? It time for a CHANGE. Hmmm, whose that "change" candidate, guess I'll vote for him.

By the way, every one knows two parent households, especially those with two earners are better off financially than single parent households. Obama and his life story and books are a fantastic role model for children of single parent households. Another great reasoon for us all to vote for him!!!!

WHY is Chuckes ingoring my question??

It's a basic question that should be very easy for him to answer...

So what's the PROBLEM, Chuckles??

Well, I guess I'll just have to ask USMC Lt. or Tinsldr2, or maybe GunnyG. GunnyG is home, so he'll have more time to explain.

But I still don't understand why Chuckles can't answer my question.

Pro-Small Govt is inherently egalitarian
Those who advocate for smaller government are inherently politically non-elitist. They believe that the average citizen is better capable of managing his own affairs than those who might otherwise do so for the government. This mindset affects the way in which the typical conservative views not only his relationship with representatives of the government, but also the activities with which he feels the government should be involved. At best, the conservative views the agents of government as hired hands, contracted with to perform specified tasks that do not exceed their lesser capabilities. To them, it thus comes as no surprise that government fails most spectacularly at its biggest assumed responsibilities. It is what should be expected to result when people take on more responsibility than they are capable of discharging properly.

THE POOR and STUPID VOTE for CLINTON
These statistics show why Obama will beat Clinton for the nomination. An analysis of election results from the Associated Press combined with Census Bureau data illustrates the problem Hillary is up against.

Here is how to sift voters to figure out who the likely winner in the Democratic nomination process will be.

1. If a county is > 20% black it will go Obama and Clinton can write it off (Obama has won 383 such counties to her 70).

2. Otherwise, look further. If the county's high school graduation rate is 78% or less it is packed with less educated voters. It will go Clinton (704 to 89).

3. Otherwise, look further. If the high school graduation rate is > 87% it is a highly educated county. It will go to Obama (185 to 36).

4. Otherwise, we finally get to geography mattering. If the county is in the Northeast or South it will go to Clinton (182 to 79). Interestingly PA is mid Atlantic, not really pure Northest or South.

5. Otherwise, and I beleive this is the case in PA, we are back to income. If 47% of housholds were poor (earned less than $30,000) Clinton will win (52 to 25 counties so far).

6. Otherwise how rural is it? If population density is > 61.5 people per square mile Obama wins (201 counties to 83).

7. Otherwise in rural counties, how bad did Bush beat Kerry is the last chance for Clinton. If Bush won by 16.5% or more Clinton wins (48 to 13).

8. Obama gets the rest of the counties (56 to 35).

No wonder Clinton is losing. She can only REALLY count on white, uneducated, poor, rural, folks in counties that went heavily for Bush over Kerry. This is what the statistics say. Does reporting the truth make me an "elitist"?

Anyway, these dull Clinton fans are the only ones more likely to vote for McCain than either Clinton or Obama in the general election. Once Obama secures the nomination Clinton and the rest of her supportors will flock to him and his campaign will take off like a rocket.

Foolish Followers
Obama is handsome and charming.
He offers HOPE and CHANGE.
Is this enough? Is this all it takes?
I am ashamed of the American people that are following this person on such shallow grounds.
The media agrees with his ideas and will do a cover-up job for him. Most of the citizens will not know what he actually stands for when they go to vote.
How does anyone begin to explain this foolishness?
I hope with time most of his followers will snap out of it,do some homework and find out who this man is and what he stands for.

Stop squirming, Robby!
The F-22 isn't "under development", it is already in service, and many claim it to be the most effective air superiority fighter ever built or currently projected to be built, you dope.

The ABL system had its first in-flight tests in February of 2007, so how the heck do YOU know it won't work? It hasn't even had a CHANCE to prove itself.

As for cost overruns, these aren't unique to Shrub, kiddo. Google "Big Dig" if you're stupid enough to think otherwise.

But of course THINKING people KNOW what B. Hussein Obama was referring to when he mentioned canceling so-called "unproven" military programs: The "balistic missile defense system". Ironically enough, the so-called "missile shield" that is currently being deployed in various nations has REPEATEDLY been proven to work, and Obama KNOWS it, and THAT is why he wants it canceled. He wants it canceled because it DOES work.

Obama is a Christian???
Not if he's attending a "church" that is based on Black Liberation Theology! THAT theology is quite anti-Christian.

democrats voting for liberals?
Why do democrats continue to vote for liberals? I've often questioned the intelligence of the fine people from California, New York, and the like. They continue to elect people using important talking points but have absolutely no intention of accomplishing any of it. If they did, what would they use as talking points for re-election? After all, today's politicians want to be career politicians, live off the public dole, stay in power, and spend, spend, spend.

Besides, the democrats of JFK's time are more similar to today's Republicans!

From the US Census Bureau:

"Real median household income in the United States climbed between 2005 and 2006, reaching $48,200, according to a report released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
...

inflation...it is not a climb...

Uh, Robby, when they mention "real" median household income, they are talking about inflation-adjusted dollars, you dope.

ANN sorry I'm late
but better late than never.
That had to be one of the funniest and BEST of your articles I have read.
Now lets see what the good AND bad folks have to say! :-)

Sorry, Joycey
It is the American People who are listening to and responding to Obama.

That is what the MSM is reporting. The MSM is not leading the people, just telling it "like it is."

Don't worry. You won't vote for Obama this term but you will vote for his second term.

Hope you're enjoying our wonderful MD weather....it's too bad what O'Malley and his leftist goons are doing to an otherwise beautiful state (with a few exceptions)

OSAMA OBAMA UNRAVELING
Watching Osama Obama slowly and painfully unravel last night was long overdue, as now the real Osama Obama is coming to the surface, and it cannot be at a more perfect time. Thanks to Charlie and George for finally standing up to this Marxist and socialist con man. When he gets genuine questions like he did last night, his true colors really show
