NYT: Suicide Manual For Dems

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Here's a story that may not have been deemed "Fit to Print": In the six months that ended Sept. 25, The New York Times' daily circulation was down another 4.51 percent to about a million readers a day. The paper's Sunday circulation was down 7.59 percent to about 1.5 million readers. In short, the Times is dropping faster than Hillary in New Hampshire. (Meanwhile, the Drudge Report has more than 16 million readers every day.)

One can only hope that none of the Democratic presidential candidates are among the disaffected hordes lining up to cancel their Times subscriptions.

The Times is so accustomed to lying about the news to prove that "most Americans" agree with the Times, that it seems poised to lead the Democrats -- and any Republicans stupid enough to believe the Times -- down a primrose path to their own destruction.

So if you know a Democratic presidential candidate who doesn't currently read the Times, by all means order him a subscription.

On Sunday, Times readers learned that despite this year's historic revolt of normal Americans against amnesty for illegal aliens: "Some polls show that the majority of Americans agree with proposals backed by most Democrats in the Senate, as well as some Republicans, to establish a path to citizenship for immigrants here illegally."

Was the reporter who wrote that sentence the Darfur bureau chief for the past year? By "some polls," I gather he means "a show of hands during a meeting of the Times editorial board" or "a quick backstage survey in the MSNBC greenroom."

As I believe Americans made resoundingly clear this year, the only "path to citizenship" they favor involves making an application from Norway, waiting a few years and then coming over when it's legal.

Americans were so emphatic on this point that they forced a sitting president to withdraw his signature legislative accomplishment for his second term -- amnesty for illegal aliens, aka a "path to citizenship" for illegals.

This was the goal supported by the president's acolytes at the Fox News Channel as well as a nearly monolithic Democratic Party and its acolytes at ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, MTV, Oxygen TV, the Food Network, the Golf Channel, the Home Shopping Network, The in-house "Learn to Gamble" channel at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Comedy Central (unless that was just a sketch on the "Mind of (Carlos) Mencia").

But ordinary Americans had a different idea. Their idea was: Let's not reward law-breakers with the ultimate prize: U.S. citizenship. And the ordinary Americans won.

The Times disregards all of that history to announce that it has secret polls showing that Americans support a "path to citizenship" for illegals after all! These polls are living in the shadows!

Only those "angriest on immigration," the Times said, are still using the various words related to immigration that liberals are trying to turn into new "N-words," such as, for example, "immigration." With an exhausting use of air quotes, the Times reports that: "The Republicans have railed against 'amnesty' and 'sanctuary cities.' They have promised to build a fence on the Mexican border to keep 'illegals' out."

In liberal-speak, that sentence would read: "The Republicans have railed against 'puppies' and 'kittens.' They have promised to build a fence on the Mexican border to keep 'baby seals' out." (In my version, the sentence would read: "Believing New York Times 'polls,' Democrats irritate 'voters.'")

Half the English language is becoming the "N-word" as far as liberals are concerned. Words are always bad for liberals. Words allow people to understand what liberals are saying.

According to the Times, all decent, cultured Americans cringe when politicians use foul words like "illegals" to describe illegals. Apparently, what most Americans are clamoring for is yet more automatic messages that begin, "Press '1' for English." That, at least, is the message the Times got from the stunning victory of grassroots over the elites on the immigration bill this year.

It is against my best interests to mention how utterly out of touch Times editors and reporters are with any Americans east of Central Park West and west of Riverside Drive. I enjoy watching the Democratic presidential candidates take clear, unequivocal positions in favor of driver's licenses for illegals and then denouncing those very positions a week later (after the real polls come in).

Some people love watching the trees change color every fall. I enjoy watching the candidates' positions on immigration change.

But it is too much for any human to endure to read the Times' version of history in which "most Americans" agree with the Times on illegal immigration in the very year Americans punched back against illegal immigration so hard that the entire Washington establishment is still reeling. It's not like we have to go back to the Coolidge administration to get some sense of what Americans think about amnesty for illegals. (I mean "amnesty" for "illegals.")

Using the Times' calculus, "most Americans" have also enthusiastically embraced soccer and the metric system.

Read The New York Times, Democrats. Make my day.

For liberals who ademantly disagree with Ann, I think there are select openings in Spitzer's staff - for talent.

talisman:

While you’re at it, explain how it is that, as you put it, “Olbermann's kicking O'Reilly's 'flagship' butt?”

Although Olbermann may occasionally approach O’reilly’s numbers for the 25-54 demographic, he’s nonetheless outpaced in overall numbers (on average) by a margin of 2-1/2 times. That would hardly constitute a “butt” kicking. Care to explain your reasoning in this matter.

As to your assertion, “Now that I think of it, it's no wonder Coulter wants to point the finger at the gray lady. Assinine (sic) and abusive distraction from the true rot was always her specialty.”

Although I generally avoid correcting bloggers for things like bad grammar, poor syntax and spelling errors, I nonetheless think that when an individual is accusing someone of being “asinine” they should make a point of properly spelling the word. Otherwise, they appear to be well… asinine. Perhaps you should consider sticking to the Liberal default word, “stupid” to go along with the Liberal default argument, referring to anyone who disagrees with him or her as “stupid.”

And do you see the irony in beginning your aforementioned paragraph with, “Now that I think of it” and closing with an uncorroborated allegation? Care to support your allegation?

re: talisman
"It is really quite alarming how these two rightwing blowhards accept Limbaugh's spew, hook, line and sinker, only to vomit it back out as fact."

You can’t verify that anymore than Times did on “most Americans”. Is that a trend among liberals? “Alarming”, that is interesting. The rest is conjecture, hardly worth a note. But O’Reilly is opinion; can you see the differerence? Or is it all just shades of Gray Lady to you?

"Most Americans"
.
“I enjoy watching the Democratic presidential candidates take clear, unequivocal positions in favor of driver's licenses for illegals and then denouncing those very positions a week later (after the real polls come in).” – Ann Coulter
Of course, this is not leadership. And if it’s not leadership, what are our so-called leaders suppose to do?

The Times’ quoting “most Americans” reminds me of the reporter who said she couldn’t figure out how Nixon won because she didn’t know anyone who voted for him.

All the news that's print to fit.
That's the real NYT motto.

One idiot liberal actually said...
that the illegal alien invaders don't commit crimes at a higher rate than American citizens in general, somehow forgetting that being here illegally *is* a crime. Their crime rate is 100%!

Are, too
The employers who employ them are a problem. The politicians who write laws to help them and don't write laws to stop them are a problem. The judges who don't deport them are a problem. The DAs who don't prosecute them are a problem. The police who don't hold them are a problem. Bureaucrats who allow them to sap services are a problem. The companies who cater to their consumer needs are a problem. Some of these people do nothing illegal; it doesn't have to be against the law to be foolish.

That takes nothing away from the fact that the people coming across the border without permission are definitely a problem. When they push citizens out of the way (figuratively, by stealing resources, but in my case, at least twice, physically) so that they can get whatever they want, they are a problem.

One other thing: By virtue of being illegal, they become wholly below the law, and some feel that they have no reason to uphold it. If you will, illegal entrance into the US is the gateway drug to other illegal activity. Check the crime and prison population statistics for "known" illegal immigrants.

"The customer base of the NYT does not want accuracy; they want MORE slant. If they don't get what they want ... then the Times is sunk."

Good point.

You know, unlike the New York Times, the LA Times made some honest efforts to provide more diversity of opinion.

It didn't seem to do them any good though. Barbara Streisand went ballistic that she was (horror of horrors) forced to be exposed to writings of columnists she didn't agree with.

So I guess when it comes to the Old Media, you can't win. Although, in the case of the NYT, any business failure they experience is well-earned, becuase they have never even made an attempt at journalistic integrity.

re: xpressit & edlmco
It is really quite alarming how these two rightwing blowhards accept Limbaugh's spew, hook, line and sinker, only to vomit it back out as fact. Honestly, haven't these two clowns even done independent research into what they allege as fact? Of course not, for if they had, they'd realize that the NYTimes is about as liberal as the WSJ op-ed pages. Or the Washington Times. Or FoxNews. Certainly these last three glaring examples of rightwing bias aren't doing well by the numbers, are they? Olbermann's kicking O'Reilly's 'flagship' butt, the Moonie Times has always been a numbers & money loser, and the WSJ has Murdoch turning it into a shilling machine.

Now that I think of it, it's no wonder Coulter wants to point the finger at the gray lady. Assinine and abusive distraction from the true rot was always her specialty.

How about NYT online?
Coulter doesn't cite those stats. Hmmm. I wonder, relatively speaking, if the NYTimes decline in subscription readership is comparable to Ann's actual retail book sales? Let's ask Regnery - think they'll give us the honest scoop?

edlmco
Hey, sounds sort of like the Democrat Party.

NYT
The New York Times has had a liberal slant for so long that their conservative readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. It's dropping now because their moderates are realizing that the information is not worth the cost.

The customer base of the NYT does not want accuracy; they want MORE slant. If they don't get what they want ... then the Times is sunk.

the good news

The good news is that media outlets of the Ruling Elite, such as the New York Times and Fox News, are seeing their influence rapidly diminish.

Note how the entire establishment media, plus the biggest special interest coalition in the history of mankind, was unable to have its way against the American people on "comprehensive" immigration reform earlier this year.

johninoregon says
"Actually, many of us---even 3000 miles away from Central Park West---think that Times editors and reporters often have more sensible things to say than Coulter ever will."

Yes, there are a lot of fools on the west coast as well. As someone who grew up in Oregon and has lived in California for 20 years, I can attest to that in spades.

Coulter has written some extremely intelligent things on politics, but she also frequently engages in discourse that is gratuitously inflammatory which undermines her credibility as a serious commentator. (although it has probably been extremely good for her bank account)

The New York Times, in contrast, never has anything intelligent to say, but it also can't be faulted for the kind of boorish temper tantrum that Coulter sometimes engages in.

But it is nevertheless in my view a pretty sleazy act.

If one is to make analogies between the Times and right wingers, I would say one could find a lot of parallels between the New York Times and Rush Limbaugh.

I always find it comical that the Left so easily ferrets out nonsense coming from commentators on the right, yet is apparently oblivious to the buffoonery of left-of-center media like the New York Times.

Liberals seem to fancy themselves "sophisticated" if they enjoy media like the Times.

As a debunker, I like to make those with an affinity for the New York Times to recognize that their intellectual level is that of an urban hick.

Ann, Will you please quit using the word elite, especially "elite media", to describe the idiots on the left? Use loony or anything else. It gives them too much credence to suit me. Elite conjures up too much credibility. I would bet that they coined up the phrase "elite media" to feed their ego. Harry

Bush's Pinocchio Problem
ManMountain says, "After reading all of the comments, I'm still amazed at how the libs that come here are so full of insightful information. (Bush Lied)."

Maybe they feel they need to keep repeating that "insightful information" because so many conservatives have a blind spot when it comes to Bush's severe Pinocchio problem. It has long since reached the point where I just assume when he opens his mouth, something untrue is going to fall out---and I usually don't have to wait long for verifcation.

Red Meat
Coulter says, "It is against my best interests to mention how utterly out of touch Times editors and reporters are with any Americans east of Central Park West and west of Riverside Drive."

Actually, many of us---even 3000 miles away from Central Park West---think that Times editors and reporters often have more sensible things to say than Coulter ever will. She seems to have concluded that her "best interests" lie in throwing steaming slabs of red meat to the knuckle-dragging contingent of the far, far right---and she's become very adept at knowing just how to appeal to their worst instincts. I wonder sometimes whether she has simply discovered a schtick that brings her money and attention or whether she really believes the stuff she puts out.

By the same token
most progressives seem to think favoring gay marriage is the mainstream ideal, and anyone not acceding to that ideal is a shocking bigot.

The majority view, however, is easily discernible.

Second to Hal Donahue
"Folks as a "crime" being an illegal alien isn't much of a one. It ranks lower on the legal totum poll than jay walking."

Well, I don't know what the federal statutes say. However, illegal immigration is a crime with extremely serious implications.

National sovreignty depends upon being able to distinguish which people *belong* to this nation and which to another. In this way the nation can make decisions for itself, take care of its own people effectively, implement policies appropriate to its circumstances, and deal effectively with other polities.

I know many of our American aristocracy (the rich, Hollywood entertainers, and certain of our Ivory Tower chaps) prefer to think of themselves as citizens of the world, but the nation-state has shown itself to be by far the most effective secular means of organizing people that the world has yet shown. In its potential to do good for the greatest number of dissimilar groups, it sure beats tribalism hollow, for example. Perhaps we'll eventually come up with something better -- but I wouldn't bet on it.

Allowing many millions of people to just barge into our nation and demand a say in how the nation is run, and demand support in exchange for no contribution to the economic health of the nation, is potentially catastrophic for the Nation. We can't afford it polically or economically. Even worse is the principle involved: the notion that we Americans have to prostitute our political authority and enonomic health, our very national sovreignty, to *anybody* who demands a slice. That our national sovreignty isn't worth maintaining.

To Hal Donahue
Good day. This is off-topic, but one of your statements suddenly put another matter into perspective. You said:

"If you really want to curb illegal immigration you need a competent government."

Which is entirely true. What occurred to me, though, was how the statement touched on universal federally-provided health care.
'If you want universal health care, you better PRAY for competent government.'

Anne
Yes, don't know about you but I'm always offended that Al Sharpton, Charlie Rangel, and Chucky Schumer, or Jerold Naddler never get enough fair air time. Not to mention Susan Esterich, Ellis Hennican who get slighted or shouted down.

Gary Olsen
I have to disagree: Pinch could NEVER fill Jimmy Olsen's shoes. Jimmy actually worked for a living.

Oh Anne
It gets better if we consider the last time they proposed boycotting Fox, and hounding the sponsors.(which is probably routine) I don't even remember the basis for the whole jihad. Then, I guess, they could scream discrimination if it did not work successfully. They wanted all Dem-candidates to withhold interviews and access to fox. And I think they called for a boycott of fox sponsored debates.

Might just be an Evangelical, though with a name like Tamil it might be an ISLAMIC Evangelical if that isn't some kind of oxymoron--(naw, on second thought, it is not like that Tamil Salvi is a WHITE Moron). Of course it could be satire in the sense of a fake Islamic with a fake failed--I mean veiled--threat).

Personally, (and those who have caught any of my remarks as to my background know I have some authority in these matters) I take Coulter's apparent claim to genuine Christian Faith at face value. Fox IS always inviting them on, and how often do we hear that they just couldn't make it...

Wallace did, I believe, a very good job interviewing both Bill and Hill, and he didn't shut either of them down. (BTW, Chris Wallace IS a demo!)

Hill's laugh was so annoying, and all too obviously contrived. Of coruse she thought it went well. But she's probably the ONLY one. :-)

Not only do "most' of them have a phobia about FOX, the Hollywood Conservatives (Miller, etc.) say that when pressed, the Hollywoods admit that they'd never watched O'Reilly or any other program on FOX.

"Of course O’Rielly could even cut Ann Coulter off." And in her book, "If Democrats Had Any Brians...." she says that the most frequent thing she says on FNC is, "Alan, can I please finish my point..." (Maybe not an exact quote, but that was her point. So who cuts off whom??)

Anne
How about spinning bananas? It sounds to me like Fox is always inviting them on, and libs often refuse or have other plans. Maybe SNL, Letterman, or Leno is more their forte'. Of course Wallace interviewed Queen Hill and no one exactly shut her down or talked over her. You know, the laugh and all was very audible. She actually she seemed to think it went well. I think some of them just have a phobia about Fox. Of course O’Rielly could even cut Ann Coulter off.

xpressit: Banana Bill is usually absurd.

The libs always get at least their share of time, and often more since they usually just talk over anyone else ...

And, IF they ever get cut off it's because they're not answering the question or addressing the point at hand... You know, that spinning thing........

Critical Bill
“Any liberal on his or her own on Fox rarely gets to say anything without being shouted down - you're living in cloudcuckooland if you think they get equal treatment.”

Oh absurd, Critical Bill: so that interview with Clinton, was a figment of someone’s imagination. He never said that because he was not permitted to. Lets see which excuse the liberal wants to use, examples are Clinton was not a liberal, Clinton was cut off, Clinton was shouted down … and could not finish his point. (just one high profile example.)

Nah!
It's just a scripture reference.

Coulter Rocks
God I love Anne Coulter. She writes what she thinks and does not care what liberals feel about it and they just hate her for it. Any time she writes anything the lib/loons start crying, it's hilarious.
As far as the illegal immigration situation is concerned, the democrats seem to be definately aligning themselves more publicly on the amnesty side, which is great for the rest of us because it is a big, fat, LOSER for them. There is a serious disconnect between the electors and the elected on this huge issue. While I think it is reasonable to assume that most Americans do not favor rounding up and exporting every single illegal alien in the country, it is clear and resounding that a vast majority of the country does not want blanket amnesty for all of the 12 to 40 million illegals here. Holier then thou, smart guy politicians are convinced that these are the only options, for a myriad of reasons I'll not enumerate at this time. There are answers to this problem (I have written a detailed plan for real comprehensive reform on my 'blog', just click on my name if you care to read it). What the American people seem to saying loudly is 'SECURE THE BORDER FIRST' liberals and like-minded republican elites view this as racist because they live and exist in the intellectual sewer that is Washington D.C.. The NY times is about as far from mainstream thought as Michael Moore is. I hope the libs keep reading and believing all of it.

HalD: Re Your 7:21PM post

In a weak moment, Vic temporarily lost his mind and provided the source for the stats you were questioning (as though I would just put something or anything out there, like a lib, maybe?)

What a stupid, stupid question!!!!

Have I, or any Conservative, ever... EVER said or alluded to thinking the war dead didn't matter?

Of.. course.. NOT! How DARE YOU!!! What kind of mental defective are you to even suggest such a thing.?????

But, just because we don’t think our troops should just ‘cut and run’ doesn’t mean that we don’t care very much about all our troops… those killed and injured…

My POINT (that you so conveniently evaded!) was to put things in perspective.

That is approximately 7.5% MORE innocent people killed by ILLEGAL ALIENS, right here on US soil, than US soldiers killed in a war zone with guns, bombs, and IEDs, etc.

Don’t these 26000+ innocent people matter to you?????

Sorry halD. It won’t matter if you won’t be tired in the morning. You’ll STILL be a mental defective liberal. Too bad!

Well Ann your column was posted late
but it appears that it will stay fresh for today. So let's take a moment to review what the subject is:

The New York times has posted articles to the effect that some polls show American support a naturalization pathway for illegal aliens and other policies that are exposed by the Lamocrats.

Ann's position is that this is in effect a lie and that conservatives should encourage Lamocrats to read the NYT and to continue espousing these policies because most American are, in fact, totally against this.

She also says that the Times is committing suicide with these kinds of actions. The unsaid implication here is that the Lamocrats would also be committing suicide by following their example.

Personally, I agree with everything she said except that if you pick nits, technically the NYT is not "lying". I am sure that there is at least one poll that says what the NYT says, even if they had to make it themselves.

Time is running-out Ann,
Don’t worry about the amigos’ immigration and their path to citizenship issues, Ann. Do worry about YOUR immigration and path to citizenship issues with heaven! Have you secured that?

Immigrant and infrastructure fix-
Someone commented on how unusual it is that no supporters of Dr. Ron Paul have posted on this thread, so, I will be the first. Go, Ronnie baby, you're the dog's tuxedo, the bee's knees and the cat's pajamas.

Now, here's how we solve the immigrant problem. Round up all the illegals from everywhere; assign them to various construction groups; rebuild our decaying infrastructure with slave labor from south of the border. Supply housing in tent cities, feed them the best homegrown organic food (mostly raw for best longevity), give them good alternative medical care and don't let them go back to wherever they came from until they're too old to work. I think such a program would dry up the immigrant flow in a New York second and meet many of our pressing local and national needs simultaneously. We have had no problem enslaving our young men for military service in years past; why not conscript scofflaw immigrants for a life sentence of hard labor rebuilding everything? They came here for work; let’s give it to them.

Republicans and conservative
voters are not dying, they are infuriated. We are so angry and frustrated we refused to support the status quo established by pols we voted for. Hence, 2006. If this anger produces some new candidates in the 08 primaries and more incumbent defeats in the election, we just possibly could be on the way to some changes. Could be good, could be disaster. With all the chickens coming home to roost, it might not be a bad thing to have a D after the president's name. The GOP is still paying for owning the presidency in 1929.

Liberal Media in General
After reading all of the comments, I'm still amazed at how the libs that come here are so full of insightful information. (Bush Lied) They are the ones who shout down and throw insults while claiming the same from conservatives. What they have not realized is that we "were" the silent majority but that we will be silent no longer. I'm sure this is what they are afraid of. The libs have gotten by with the shouting, name calling and protesting to achieve their goals for so long that when someone else has an opinion, it must be bashed loud and long for fear that the libs will be found to be in the minority, opinion wise.
The problem with most liberal news outlets is they have reporters who think they are Woodward & Bernstein and every report they file is the new Watergate against the Republican Party. (Bush Lied) It doesn't matter that a lot of what they print is information that often undermines our national security. The public has a right to know but only to a certain extent. They could be reporting about a homicide and instead of just reporting about it in general, they have to give every gory detail and offer conjecture before all the facts are in. Even when they get it wrong, most are very slow to print a retraction and if they do it is buried in the back pages instead of giving it the same space and size of the original article.
Here's an idea. How about the media reporting on news items without conducting a trial before it goes to court, report the good that our military is doing just as heavily as it reports the bad, and stop reporting security information that gives our enemies the knowledge that we are watching them and know their plans.
And remember, if Bush Lied, how many Dims were lying during the Clinton administration but didn't have the intestinal fortitude to act other than make speeches to the press. USA, still the best.

Semper Fi,

dabgmk
I must have missed the Krauthammer lecture that day because I don't remember seeing that. I do agree on one thing. If the Republican Party is dying it is not because of any of the so called "religeous right". It is because the Republicans are trying to become Democrats.
