Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Republicans' defense of President Bush's immigration bill is more enraging than their defense of Harriet Miers. Back then, Bush's conservative base was accused of being sexist for opposing an unqualified woman's nomination to the highest court in the land. Now we're racists for not wanting to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

I don't know why conservatives like Linda Chavez have to argue like liberals by smearing their opponents as racists. Oh wait, now I remember! Their arguments are as strong as liberals' arguments usually are.

Apart from abortion, no subject produces so much disingenuousness as America's immigration policy, both legal and illegal. For nearly 50 years, Americans have been intentionally lied to about our immigration laws.

In 1965, Teddy Kennedy overhauled immigration law with the specific purpose of effecting a dramatic change in the nation's demographics. Bobby Kennedy had civil rights, so Teddy needed something big: He would preside over a civil rights bill for the entire Third World! My word, but that man could drink in those days.

With his 1965 immigration act, Kennedy embarked on entirely transforming American culture for no good reason. (You know how people always say the same arguments against illegal immigrants today were once made about the Irish to show how silly those arguments are? If only the U.S. Senate had had an "Irish Need Not Apply" sign!)

Until that point, immigration law basically took a laissez-faire approach, with country quotas attempting to replicate the traditional immigration patterns. Most immigrants to America had historically come from Great Britain, Germany and Scandinavian countries. Consequently, immigration quotas roughly reflected that balance, with smaller numbers of immigrants admitted from other countries.

But in an angry, long-awaited payback to WASPs, Kennedy decided he was going to radically transform the racial composition of the country. Instead of taking 15 immigrants from England and three from China, America would henceforth take three from England and 15 from China. Payback's a bitch, Daughters of the American Revolution!

Some of those hardworking immigrants who just want a chance to succeed were arrested in a plot to blow up JFK Airport last week.

Most immigrants still come from a handful of countries; Kennedy simply changed which countries those would be. In 2005, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the overwhelming majority of immigrants came from only 10 countries, none of which had sent a lot of immigrants to America for the country's first 200 years: Mexico (161,445), India (84,681), China (69,967), the Philippines (60,748), Cuba (36,261), Vietnam (32,784), the Dominican Republic (27,504), Korea (26,562), Colombia (25,571) and Ukraine (22,761).

In 1960, whites were 90 percent of the country. The Census Bureau recently estimated that whites already account for less than two-thirds of the population and will be a minority by 2050. Other estimates put that day much sooner.

One may assume the new majority will not be such compassionate overlords as the white majority has been. If this sort of drastic change were legally imposed on any group other than white Americans, it would be called genocide. Yet whites are called racists merely for mentioning the fact that current immigration law is intentionally designed to reduce their percentage in the population.

We needed to have "more discussion" about Iraq for nearly two years before finally invading. When will we be allowed to begin discussion of a government policy enacted by stealth 40 years ago specifically intended to decimate one particular ethnic group in our own country?

If liberals think Iraqis are genetically incapable of pulling off even the most rudimentary form of democracy, why do they believe 50 million Mexicans will magically become good Americans, imbued in the nation's history and culture, upon crossing the Rio Grande? Maybe we should dunk Iraqis in the Rio and see what happens.

And as long as we're adopting an open borders policy for immigration, how about opening the borders for emigration? As it stands, anyone can come in and start plotting terrorist attacks or collecting government services right away. But the rest of us can never escape having to pay for it.

You can leave the country, you can renounce your citizenship -- but you still owe taxes for 10 years. The government does not allow us to stop supporting welfare recipients in America, millions more of whom it plans to import under Bush's bill. That's not a free market -- it's a roach motel.

If these free-marketeers at The Wall Street Journal want the free movement of people, how about letting us freely leave after they've wrecked the country?

In Samuel P. Huntington's book "Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity," he asks: "Would America be the America it is today if in the 17th and 18th centuries it had been settled not by British Protestants but by French, Spanish or Portuguese Catholics? The answer is no. It would not be America; it would be Quebec, Mexico or Brazil."

I don't want to live in Mexico, Quebec or Brazil. But now I guess I have no choice, since "open borders" means I can never leave.

If America is to survive, the battle cry of a new generation must be, "Diversity Be Damned!!".

ANN
Well Ann, three in a row on the same subject and still blasting Bush. But you’re wrong on one score. We could renounce our citizenship, leave the country and then come back as “illegal” aliens. Then we could get tax amnesty. Of course, as soon as they realize that they will close that loophole while opening more than the 20 identified by Jeff Sessions.

At last some good news. Fox is reporting that grassroots efforts to block the legislation are paying off. The Senate may not have the votes to force cloture tomorrow. So perhaps it is a little premature to book your stay in the Roach Motel. However, Fred Barnes is still pushing the Bush agenda on this bill and says that the conservatives opposed to the bill are only a small part of the Republicans. I guess that pretty much says that he doesn’t consider himself to be a conservative. The panel, in which Barnes is the only “conservative” among two liberals thinks the bill will sail through the Senate easily.

Excellent article.
"Maybe we should dunk Iraqis in the Rio and see what happens."

Hilarious!

Do illegal aliens get sick if they drink Our water?

I'm gonna be sick...
WASHINGTON, June 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In one of the crucial tests of the Senate immigration bill, 51 senators voted to grant amnesty to illegal alien terrorists and criminals. By a 46-51 vote, the Senate rejected an amendment offered by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) that would have barred illegal aliens who have been determined to have committed terrorist acts, or who have been convicted of a variety of criminal offenses, including gang activity, from eligibility for the proposed Z visa amnesty that would allow them to remain in this country indefinitely.

Ann- WHAT ARE THEY THINKING????!!!

Not as long as Bush is President*

We should not undertake any immigration reform until after another Presidential election. This President has shown his loyalties are not to American citizens on this issue. Personally, I believe we need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform. We have the laws, what we don't have is any enforcement. Without enforcement, laws are meaningless.

This new package will be no different than 1986. The borders could have and should have been secured September 12, 2001. But that would have disrupted the cheap labor express and the RNC could not disappoint its contributors. So the problem has doubled as enforcement went from inadequate under Clinton to nonexistent under Bush. Now they will try to jam another amnesty down our throats. The question remains, will we let them?

*(update)We should not undertake any immigration reform until Ted Kennedy is gone. He is largely responsible for the 1965 legislation that led to the 1986 amnesty that led to this years amnesty. Before 1965 we allowed approx. 250,000 people in legally each year. He told us we would not have a million each year, we do. Legally. We also have a million a year coming in illegally which was supposed to have been fixed by the one time only amnesty of 1986. Author: Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy has inserted provisions into this bill which would make it impossible to deport anyone, even those who already have deportation orders. He has fixed it so we will get to pay for the lawyers for the illegals to contest their cases. As far as any enforcement goes we are just supposed to believe them that this time they really, really mean it.

Yeah, right.

Where was the honest coverage
when Kennedy introduced this bill 40 years ago? I was just a child then, but has our country changed so much if it let congress get away with this or were issues not covered as much then as they are today? I am so glad we have venues now to learn the truth about issues. Perhaps there is still hope for our country.

BTW, I am so tired of having the press lump legal immigrants who worked hard to get here with the illegal ones who are not here for citizenship but only for self-benefits.

Keep up the good work, Ann.

Bravo Ann!
It is nice to see that Ann Coulter has finally come to her senses about the Rockefeller liberal tendencies of el Presidente Jorge Bush. But she had best be careful about what she says because any dissent is not tolerated by our Decider In Chief. Ann will find herself on the ultra-secret "Do Not Fly List." She used to complain justly about the airport gestapo checking out her brassiere, but at least then they would let her get on the plane. Now, she will have to drive to her speaking engagement, and soon will no doubt have to show her biometric ID to go from one state to another unless she speaks fluent Spanish.

Dear Ann Coulter,
I have a delemma, I live in prehaps the largest illegal alien magnet in the nation, but some of my friends say that I'm a racist because I oppose illegal immigration.

I have never considered myself a racist but I'm really hurt by my friends who say such things. Do you think I'm a racist, your oppinion is very valuable to me and if you think I'm a racist I will change my ways.

Sincerly,
largecaliber

PS Apoligies to Ann Landers, may she RIP.

But what to do?
I don't know what to do anymore! I've emailed, faxed, called our so-called politicians for more than 2 yrs over this, and they don't care what we think.

They just want our tax dollars!

Last year the Mexican rich elite said they would move out of their Country if taxes were raised to care for their own poor. We've given Millions to Mexico and their government still doesn't change.

So, the Mexican rich and their government, along with our government force Americans to "pay their way".

And I am heart sick at what is going on right now on the floor of the Senate!

I Remember Now
I wouldn't be a terrorist I would be a freedom fighter.

Nafta in Reverse
The parties have sold us(spelled U.S.) down the river for money and power. The Republicans wanted to supposedly enlarge our markets. What A Joke! Mexicans still have a terrible standard of living and wages and cannot buy our goods and sending our jobs to Mexico have destroyed the good paying jobs we have to lower our standard of living. Big Business would sell their mothers, wives, and children for a buck and they have sold us and our children out for profit. The Democrats are just as bad. They want to add any new victim group to pit against the native born Americans who won't vote for their socialist agenda. Oh, and they will see to it that legislation and the courts override the will of the people. We can cancel Nafta now because Mexico and other illegals are living here in the roach motel that we are fast becoming.

Mitt Romney
In her article titled "A Green Card in Every Pot", Ann Coulter quoted Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, immigrant and first Jewish member of the Supreme Court, writing that Americanization required that the immigrant adopt "the clothes, the manners and the customs generally prevailing here" and that he adopt "the English language as the common medium of speech." In that same article she wrote, "Americans display no evident desire to defend their culture, much less transmit it, and immigrants show no evident desire to adopt it." Mitt Romney is a prime example making Ann Coulter's point by having a Spanish-version website with video of his son speaking in Spanish. Is Mr. Romney intending this Spanish language website for American citizens who will vote for him, but cannot understand the English language? Or is it intended for those "Mexican-Americans" who prefer Spanish because they have no intention of assimilating into American culture? I am 100 percent for Legal Immigration, but how can we believe a Presidential Candidate truly understands the problems facing America if he doesn't understand that our country is not assimilating our immigrants?

where are the wingnuts?
Odd, so far all posters (as of my read, 9 of them) are polite.

What I'd like to add to the discussion is to note that where Ann has said "race" it is probably more apt to see "culture". There are differences in background culture for any who would immigrate. The British (and German, and Scandinavian) immigrants are used to a classless rule of law (no, that doesn't mean you swear at the judge in court), the idea that each individual human has value, and that your taxation level may vary according to how affluent you are but not by who your parents were or your religion. This, plus legal protections that apply to all (even Paula Jones) has made the US the destination of choice for those who believe that they can do well if they just have a fair chance to succeed.

Currently immigrants or visa holders from the Anglosphere will share these views (I don't know enough about India to know whether General Napier's cultural comparison has taken root well enough for them to be considered full members of the Anglsphere). Those from totalitarian or kleptocratic states will not. If the migrants from less stable/desirable cultures wish to immigrate it behoves the host culture to make sure the numbers are limited so that they can be assimilated. Cultural ghettos and clannish behavior are the alternative, and they impoverish rather than enrich the host culture.

And just because someone is already in the US doesn't mean that they are part of the culture, but that leads into another thread longer than my already long-winded musings.

Change from "R" to "I"
I know it's a small gesture, but I think it can send a strong message . . .

Anyway, the most infuriating trend in this debate is how ostensibly "conservative" elements, from whom you would expect some honest debate--I'm thinking of specifically WSJ editors, but there are tons of others--, conflate immigration with f****** ILLEGAL immigration! Damned! That kind of **** is enough to turn me into the Hulk!

Why do they have to LIE?! Why can't they just accept the difficulty of the position that they're arguing and just fight it out like men?!

Well, the clear answer is that they are cowards, because I don't think they're lazy.

Annie:

Great column! Thank you, for keeping this issue on the front burner.

And how true it is, as you pointed out, “Conservatives like Linda Chavez” are arguing “like liberals by smearing their opponents as racists” simply because, “Their arguments are as strong as liberals' arguments usually are.”

If you can’t debate the merits of your argument, call into question the character of your opponent.

We owe the Mexicans a living.
It is indeed our responsibility to care for all Mexicans, regardless of whether or not they cross the border. By taking the land that composes the American southwest after the Mecican War, we acquired the only territory where Mexicans had any chance of building a successful nation. If Mexico had retained that particular section of their empire, they would today be a prosperous and free nation. The U.S. / Mexican boundary is a magical line where success is guaranteed in the north, and only failure reigns to the south. It matters not what people do, it only matters where they reside.

The citizens of the United States have enjoyed the automatic benefits of this divine section of the world, and we unrealistically expected Mexico to develop the territory south of the Rio Grande into a decent entity. They failed miserably at this simply because they were kept below the Magic Line. Honest government, proper utilization of resources, and economic organization are impossible without the lands to the north of the Rio, so we really do owe the Mexicans a free ride.

Or, as La Raza demands, we could concede and give them back the dirt they desire, then Mexico would automatically be a prosperous nation.

GENOCIDE
If this sort of drastic change were legally imposed on any other group than white Americans it would be called genocide.
How true.
This is societal genocide.
John Edwards' catch phrase about the 'Two Americas' is going to come to pass except it will be the liberal elite in their enclaves and the rest of us living 'green', buying carbon replacement units, riding the bus and taking out mortgages to buy hybrid automobiles.
The Trotskyites - liberals- want to destroy the middle class in the country and they are getting their much needed help from the lilly livered RINO's who support this societal suicide.
Imagine, in less than a generation the middle class in this nation will be destroyed and in the generation after that you will see revolution to topple the Trotskyites and restore a decent living and moral sanity to this once great nation.
Tell me this, the way things are going now and the direction they are taking in this country, do the Turner Diaries now seem so far fetched as the politically correct pundits from both sides of the aisle would have you believe?
'The Great Day of the Rope'is looking more and more like the way this country is going.
God help us.

Options
The U.S. government makes tax claims on the incomes of citizens of other countries who recently renounced American citizenship? That's bizarre. How would they even enforce that, especially if you move to an unfriendly country? I wonder if any foreign countries allow these people to deduct U.S. taxes paid from their domestic tax bills.

I ask because I might be interested in leaving someday if current trends continue. I think Australia would be the best bet: plenty of open space, good economy, not as liberal as Europe and generally freer, protected by the open seas, and still ethnically dominated by descendants of British colonists. Maybe we could persuade them to finally break all colonial ties with the UK (they still consider the Queen of England to be their monarch) and adopt a constitution similar to the U.S. Of course, it would have to be incredibly detailed and air-tight to prevent the kinds of judicial activism, congressional treason, and executive perfidy that have ruined the U.S.

It's either that or another (hopefully bloodless) revolution. Liberals control the schools; does anyone think they don't control the future?

Largecaliber, Re 10:31 post
You would be acting in accordance with the duties of free men as set forth in the Declaration of Independence. It is not treason to overthrow a runaway government. It is irresponsible to tolerate it.

Our "elected" officials are in the process of proving they consider themselves to be rulers rather than representatives. Plus, the facade of elections are becoming more irrelevent with the adoption of electonic no paper trail voting machines, illegal alien voting, and vote often attitudes brought forth by the rejection of photo ID's at the polls.

Look at the poor character that is typical of our government officials, and then tell me these power hungry, disloyal degenerates will leave their grasp on power to chance.

Forced Demographic Change Is Treason
Ted Kennedy is a "Fat Slug". His is guilty of treason by virtue of his attempt to undermine our way of life. Don't worry about the Black Hawks or Apaches firing on good Americans; the boys in uniform are on our side. The Liberals have never been able to control our Armed Forces; if they could our Constitution would be toilet paper and we would be calling each other "Comrade".

Ann the Great
Another terrific column Ann! This just shows that the Kennedys and Ted the red drown em till dead have been nothing but trouble for the USA. I am not going to leave my country or party in the hands of RINOs and illegals and traitors. Let's fight for what is right! I also refuse to be a minority in my own land so patriotic conservative Americans start having babies!

A way to turn the tide.
How about if we start importing some MSM types. I'm sure some reporters from the third and fourth world would be happy to come here and work for much less the the home grown variety.

In the interest of diversity, tolerance, understandig and a reduced payroll some editors would welcome them with open arms.

Imaging Katy being replaced by an attractive, perky, young illegal imigrant woman from El Salvador or China who was willing to work hard at reading a prepared text for slightly over minimum wage.

How long would it take for them to switch over to our side?

A Grotesque Caricature of a Poster

Did you even bother to read this article? It's about illegal and legal immigration, not Iraq. Duh?

Ann:
Linda Chavez calls us racist for the same reason that all liberals call us racists: They've lost the debate.

Chavez's last column read like a woman who was leaving a lover and had a bunch of angst to get off of her chest. She insulted everyone on what I hope is her way out.

Keep'em coming Ann. I didn't think you could top last week's column but you did it.

A leader? Heck, let's just lead!

The trick is fnding people who are ready to follow.

THE SIXTH OF JUNE
On this date over 60 years ago, brave young men of this great nation of ours stood erect and embarked on vanquishing foes that threatened our way of life at both Midway and Normandy.
Naval aviators destroyed the heart of fleet of the Japanese Navy and forever turned the tide of the War in the Pacific in favor the United States.
Likewise, two years later these same brave young men dropped from airplanes and stormed the beaches in Normandy and did not relent until nine months later when the Third Reich lay utterly destroyed.
This ushered in an unparelled era of prosperity for this country and the creation of a real middle class.
If you believe that the departed watch us, the living, I wonder what is going through their minds right now?
Are they angry at the freedoms they sacrificed their lives for so we could throw it away?
Or are they thinking that we are getting our just desserts?
Everywhere in this society we are under siege by fringe elements that have now taken the reigns of our society, our mores and morals and have turned them upside down and inside out.
They have taken over the media, our schools and use their subliminal and overt tactics in controlling discourse about the way our lives are lead.
Wrong is right.
Right is wrong.
Complain or voice an opinion about the scamnesty debacle and your a racist.
Complain or voice an opinion about your children being taught about such lunacies as 'The Two Princes' and you're a homophobe or 'heterosexist.'
" I don't have a job. It's your fault."
"I don't have a good life. It's your fault."
"Work hard?" "Why?" "Give it to me." "Give it to me." " Just give it to me."
I walk down the streets in some places, hardly recognizing the country I grew up in and oddly enough, the words of Travis Bickle come to my mind about how someday a big rain is going to come and wash all the scum away.
Maybe the big rain will come in a resurrection of the spirit of those brave young men who gave their lives on distant shores so long ago to preserve our freedoms and our way of life.
Will we be ready for it?
Do the spirits of these departed heroes think we deserve it?
I wonder what they think watching our societal suicide.
I'm almost too afraid to.

karennkc
Your right this is the Republicans' war start to finish because the traitorious Democrats have already declared defeat! We have made some mistakes though, for example, I would have fire bombed that country from day one. You win the war and then make the peace, you don't win the peace.

Ted Kennedy's Revenge
Ann Coulter seems to think that Ted Kennedy's 1965 immigration "reform" was some sort of poke in the eye to the WASPs who dissed his Irish compatriots by refusing to hire them simply because they were drunkards, brawlers, slackers and saboteurs. Well, maybe. But since we're into psychobabble history, let me up the ante. Maybe his solipsistic delusions were such that he felt it necessary to destroy the country that destroyed his family's triumphant assertion of Gaelic grandeur. You know, "Who killed the Kennedys? We all did."

Protestantism made us great?
Anne,

Your use of Catholic France, Spain, and Portugal to illustrate your point on American culture versus that of Quebec, Mexico, and Brazil, (through a reference to Huntington’s book) is inaccurate. It implies that Protestantism in lieu of Catholicism is what made the US culture great. Let’s not forget, the Puritans left England in order to escape the persecution of the Protestant Church of England. The same Protestant Church of England spent a good part of the 1500’s torturing Catholics for their beliefs leading to them leaving for the religious freedom of the American colony of MARYland.

Clearly this form of Protestantism did not birth the American thinking that gave us freedom of religion. More importantly, the condition of modern Quebec, Mexico, and Brazil is not the result of Catholic culture but rather the abandonment of Catholic notions of freedom and liberty, which are tenets of the Catholic culture and arguably were given to the world through Catholicism.

Conversely, the condition of the US today (abortion on demand, moral relativism, etc.) is not the result of Protestantism, but rather the abandonment of it. In the period Huntington refers to, the 1700’s and 1800’s, Protestants and Catholics alike stood for freedom and liberty of the individual, the right of free practice of religion, free speech, and the right to life (both religions were anti-abortion). Now, for the most part, only Catholics are left holding this mantle.

Bottom line: Your point would have been better made had you linked freedom and liberty, birthed through the more orthodox Christian religions, to the success of the US rather than Protestantism vs. Catholicism.

Not About Catholicism
I think Ann was trying to say that the United States would have started out cultural different if it were a colony of Spain, France, or Portugal. Fankly I agree, the British gave us the common law and a work ethic unique to their culture and their particular faith. It worked well here and in time everyone came to benefit. Ann is just saying that some thing are worth preserving, like our heritage which will slowly be destroyed by nonassemilating illegal aliens. .

To "Loyal Democrat"
Are you serious? That sounds very racist to say that Mexicans can't make their country better just because they don't have that piece of land to the north! Considering that it was immigrants of many other nationalities who worked so hard and died in the effort to build up that land which you are referring to, I don't agree that we owe Mexicans anything. But arguing with you about the past would be pointless. Instead, please consider this. Businesses hire illegal immigrants in order to exploit them for cheap labor. We are told that "illegal immigrants are only doing the work that Americans won't do". The truth is that employers aren't willing to pay enough for Americans to be able to support themselves, when they can just hire illegal immigrants who work for less money. It's simple economics and it comes down to the money! Business owners love illegal immigrants for the same reasons they loved slavery in the South 200 years ago: to exploit human beings for cheap labor! These business owners only want this new immigration Bill because they think it will be easier to get cheap labor. The facts show that most illegal immigrants from Mexico don't want to assimilate into America. They love Mexico and would rather live in their native land. So, Isn't it better for America to help these hard-working Mexicans to fix their own country, instead of helping them abandon it? The real problem is the corrupt Mexican government and the reason why millions of Mexicans are so desperate to risk their life crossing our border illegally just to find work to feed their families. Isn't it the responsibility of Mexico to provide job opportunities for their own citizens? This is the real problem! We don't expect other countries to find jobs for our citizens. This new Immigration Bill lets Mexico "off the hook" of being responsible for their own citizens, and if George Bush gets his way and this Bill gets passed, then there is no reason for Mexico to ever change. Mexico will continue to be a corrupt 3rd world country and dump their unemployment problems on America. The solution for illegal immigration is in helping Mexico become a better society so that Mexican citizens can stay in Mexico. Since the Mexican government will not cooperate and is unwilling to change, then we must force them to deal with THEIR problem by enforcing our own immigration laws. It's just not "compassionate" to allow a corrupt Mexican government to turn its own citizens away so that they can be exploited for cheap labor in another country. So why don't we stop importing EVERYTHING from Communist China, and let Mexican companies manufacture some of that stuff? That gives more jobs to those hard-working Mexican citizens so they don't have to cross our border and break our immigration laws. Why does China have to have a monopoly on every piece of junk we buy? You'll help Mexicans create a better Mexico by enforcing our immigration laws and our border.

To "Loyal Democrat"
I just read you blog. Now I get it! Disregard my previous post to you. It is meant for all the real Democrats reading here.

To Dangerous Dave
Although I have often disagreed with Linda Chavez I am going to defend her now because I don't see how anybody who reads townhall posts can doubt that many opponents of illegal immigration are racists or, at the very least, that they make racist comments. Yes, obviously we need to secure our border for reasons of national security. But townhall posts aren't just about border security or even about job security. They are also full of stuff like this: Latinos are cockroaches, they are scum, they are criminals, their women are baby-factories, etc. Could someone explain how such comments are NOT racist? And how about people who say they are sickened by the sight of Spanish on a sign or by the sound of it on a telephone message? And those who call Mexicans names like tacohead? If you SOUND like a racist, you will be seen to BE a racist. And Chavez is right.

People who think immigrants are cockroaches and scum are not really distinguishing between legal and illegal immigrants. And those who see immigrants as just welfare recipients and criminals might take another look. During the past month my husband was in the hospital several times. This was not some remote rural outpost but a major urban medical center. Fully half of the nurses were Filipino and I would estimate that half of the young physicians were from India, China, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. What struck me is that most of them spoke perfect American English, having either been born here or lived here since early childhood---these were the children of immigrants. I don't know what has caused this sea-change in the US medical picture, but it's clear that this huge wave of immigrants wasn't composed of bums but of people sufficiently organized and talented to raise bright, motivated, successful children. Meanwhile I read recently that one in three new businesses is started by an immigrant.

grab yer ankles folks . . .
This one's coming whether you like it or not. The political elite of both parties have decided you're too dumb to know what's best for you. Can't you see how our country would be better with more of that south o' the border flavor? We could use a little more poverty, ignorance, lawlessness, and curruption; I mean, who couldn't? Things have just gotten too boring here in the good ol' US of A. We need to SPICE THINGS UP!!

There are no negative consequences to letting people flood into our country unchecked. They don't carry any diseases that your ordinary run o' the mill third-world shanty-town dwellers might have. There are no drug-runners or Mexican gang members coming in with the honest hard-workin' folk. That's all just scare-tactics. Our prisons aren't overflowing with undocumented visitors. That's just your prejudice showing. There are no Ahkmeds posing as Juans. Nevermind the prayer rug ociffer, it's really just a pancho.

I don't know 'bout you, but I'm watchin' which way my favorite politician is voting on this deal, and come election time, the chickens will come home to roost . . . . especially all the ones that came in cages on buses from south of the Rio Grande.

One must remember that in 1965, Lyndon Johnson was president and he had a Congress that was veto-proof. More than 60% as I recall were democrats and we have never in my lifetime had another president more skillful at working the Congress than was Lyndon Johnson. Now, his relationship with the Kennedy’s was not particularly strong but he certainly did bend over backwards to avoid confrontations with them. Hence, it is my opinion that Johnson permitted Teddy to run roughshod on this one to keep him out of his way on those things important to him, like the Great Society, his War on Poverty and Vietnam.

Further, we only had three networks, no cable and as a society we were naïve in believing that our media was honest, unpartisan and reliable. After all, we compared them to TASS and PRAVDA. How could those Soviet citizens realistically believe those voices of the Soviet world? Little did we know that the venerable Walter Cronkite had an agenda himself or that it was a progressive agenda? It certainly leads me to ask the question as to what other news was never brought to our attention in 1965. I had just graduated high school in 1965. I was wet behind the ears and although I took an interest in politics, I must admit that my mind at the time was more focused on girls, entering college and earing tuition. It was not focused on illegal immigration.

Fedup

Did you ever get the feeling that when you write your Congressman or Senator that the letter you receive is a form letter he sends to anyone who writes him on that same highlighted headline issue?

Dwain

Tom Tancredo gave the best answer on Tuesday night as to what it means to be an American. He was ignored by both those on the stage and by Wolf Blitzer but what he said was correct. He essentially parodied a comment by President Theodore Roosevelt made more than 100 years ago in which the president stated that to be an American one has to give up all vestiges of the past. His or her allegiance must be to the United States alone and there was no room in this country for any hyphenated Americans. To be an Italian-American or an Irish-American would provide an indication that this person had not assimilated into America and wasn’t a true American. I do wish that his answer had been pursued further.

Loyal Democrat

For the sake of argument, let's say you are right. So please tell me, what will be the reaction if any one of these Mexicans for whom we bear such responsibility, attempts to climb the fence of the Streisand estate?

This ships sinkin' folks . . .
And the politicians are drilling more holes. The problem is that there's no life raft in sight. Do the idiot Republicans really think that an uneducated underclass of Mexican migrants will vote for them? Or even their children? Not after they go through the liberal indoctrination camps . . er uh . . . public school systems. Not after they've melted their brains with Telemundo and the liberal media have had their say.

Say goodbye Republicans . . . . . .

Lilly, Lilly
Your doing the same slight of hand that apologists for illegal immigration do. YOu shift seamlessly from illegal alien to immigrants. Immigrants are wonderful people...I know, I married one. Illegal aliens are a totally different sort. Legal immigrants commit hardly any crimes at all because they're checked out thoroughly before getting their visa. Illegal aliens are drawn from a culture of people who have no qualms about breaking the law and they are the one's who populate our prisons at a rate 2-3 times higher that native population and 4 times higher than legal immigrants.
Lilly, if you are incapable of understanding the diffence then I apologize for assuming too much from you. If you do understand the different then I ask you to explain your willful tarring the reputation of lawful immigrants by tossing them in the same bucket as the border jumpers who use fraudulent documents and steal someone else's ID.

Hey, I know . . . .
Since all the Mexicans are moving here, why don't we pick up our belongings and move to Cananda? Surely they're at LEAST as compassionate as our wonderful president. And I hear they've got a REALLY good welfare state up there. Maybe that'll give us at least a few years before they ruin this country and follow us up there.

Be sure to pack yer sweaters!

One More thing
It came to my attention recently that Mexico has compulsary military servioe for 18 year old males. More than just a few of those young workers who "just want to feed their family" are actually single and hiding out from the Mexican draft board, or worse, the Federales.

Keep them honest, Anne.
Keep them honest, Anne!

Observation
The mass movement of illegal aliens from Latin America can't reasonably be called illegal immigration. What we are seeing come to pass is the migration of people to what they see as the Promised Land. Controlling our borders against the migration of people looking for something other than to become American (economic opportunity) is absolutely critical to the survival of the US in its current form. To encourage additional migration is potentially suicidal to the US as a nation state, since we no longer have systems designed to assimilate migrants into our culture and way of life, such as it is.
The historical precedent for such migration (Kosovo, Rome, North America during frontier days) is pretty plain. The fundamental nature of the Promised Land changes when the make-up of the citizenry changes, and not always for the better. When a state loses the will to enforce its borders it eventually loses control of itself as a state and is no longer the thing that attracted migration in the first place.

Anchor Babies
--And while we're at it, let's petition the Supreme Court to clarify the 14th Amendment, as it relates to "residents" of the United States being entitled to citizenship. Illegal aliens/border crashers and their offspring should NOT be considered (legal) residents! If the politicians don't have the guts to address this glaring travesty, who will take up the cause?

cut our ties?
Lestat writes:
“Maybe we could persuade [Australians] to finally break all colonial ties with the UK (they still consider the Queen of England to be their monarch)...”

The Queen of Australia also happens to be the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Irelnd and lots of other places. Just because we have a Head of State (who also happens to be the Head of State of other places) chosen by the lottery of birth rather than by a quadrennial lottery of duping a sadly uneducated electorate does not negate the fact that Australia is pretty much an independent republic. Wherefore should we break the few remaining colonial ties? (This reminds me of Roosevelt who, in his rabid anti-colonialism, was easily manipulated by Stalin into conspiring against Churchill and thereby allowing the USSR to impose its hegemony over much of Eastern Europe, thus bringing about the Cold War and its legacy of woe which ruined and, even now, continue to ruin, so many lives.)
In terms of liberal values, the continual Americanisation of Australia means that, like the US, an increasingly greater number of Australians are likely to be clinically obese, obsessed with talentless celebrities, prone to litigation at the drop of a hat, and semi-literate.
The conservative government, led by PM John Howard (who is often praised by the right in the US as staunchly consertative), continues, for example, to increase the funding of a welfare system which even left-wing governments in many other countries would consider generous; and there is no opposition to our public health system from any major political party: the only argument is over how much more funding to provide. Recently, pressures from opposition parties and the media have forced the PM to fund measures which allegedly militate against global warming. Our citizens, like yours, are far more likely to derive their knowledge of scientific principles and phaenomena from popular entertainers than from any more learned source. We too, possess a whole class of interfering busybodies who would gladly be the apparatchiks administering a nanny-state.

Immigration: We're Great or Stupid
We are unique! What other nation grants citizenship to people who break their laws and then, automatically, confers special privilage on them, called "affirmative action" in employment and education because they are underprivileged minorities?

I had come to defend my vote for Bush by saying, "consider the alternative - John Kerry." But Kerry is, at least, honest in his contempt for taxpaying citizens. We have to infer that from Bush. Bill D.

The voting bloc
It's hard to believe that Republicans in the White House could be snookered so easily. Oh, wait a minute...never mind.

Opening bids for the Hispanic vote are to create 12 million new Hispanic voters. With the electorate split down the middle, the political dynamics are going to be ugly. Where is it going to wind up?

Maybe boosting cars should be made legal
You know, to do away with the problem of illegal car theft...

The Wrong Kennedy...........!
nolocompromissum;
You are partically right. We did kill the wrong Kennedy's. Whom ever plotted and killed John and Bobby should have thought long and hard about which Kennedy needed to be romoved. If they would have thought long and hard enough they could have made a much better decision. Teddy the swimmer would have been the much better choice, THE ONLY CHOICE REALLY. This country could have been spared a lot of humiliation, time , money and embarrassmnet if only they would have thought a little longer on which should be removed from the face of the earth and Mary Jo might still be alive today as well. Between Kennedy, McCain, President Bush and all the supporters in Washington in favor of the SCAMNESTY legislation who refuse to listen to the MAJORITY of the WILL of the PEOPLE they were elected to represent and groups such as CAIR and the ACLU and all the other ANTI-AMERICAN groups it is time for a revolution in this country AGAIN against HIGHER taxes because with this SCAMNESTY legislation they have proposed is going to mean a MAJOR increase in taxes on all AMERICANS.....oh except the ILLEGAL ALIEN IMMIGRATS who are law breakers and criminals who DON'T pay taxes now and probably never will because with the way our Federal government is running the next to nothing immigration laws and the proposed new SCAMNESTY immigration legislation and the LOOP HOLES in this legislation they will never pay taxes but WILL be entitled to all the benefits that all the legal, long time, hard working tax paying Americans have paid in to and are entitled to. Retirement overseas somewhere is looking better and better all the time. To Me, a Partriot and military Veteran, America is becoming a country that I am surely loosing my allegiance to. When I vote to elect an official to a political office and he is elected to represent me and the majority of the will of the people in his district whom elected him and this elected official goes to Washington and does as he pleases its either time to reelect another, which has proven to be no different than the one he is replacing, its time for a DRASTIC change in this country. Lies and Corruption need to be forced to a change of TRUTH and Revolution. There is a lot going on in Washington supposedly for the people but it is looking more and more like its being done for the common criminal politicians own personal gains, what ever the gain may be, money gains ie; Jefferson Dem-LA, Kennedy, McCain and many other politician to gain votes, and Bush for a legacy only slightly better than that of Bill Clinton.
Ok America where are you NOW??? All you PATRIOTS out there, where are you now. Pick up your phones, get on the computer and e-mail, or pretty soon you and I will be the MINORITY of this country.

I watched the C-Span coverage
I went ahead and endured the "unbelievabilities" of the operations of the US Senate yesterday through the evening. I'm afraid that this body of "representative democracy" has very intent of passing S1348, the comprehensive immigration giveaway.
I saw the forces of evil at work diligently turning back legitimate and wise admendment after amendment; sustaining the march to allow terrorists and convicted felons to gain z-visas and a permanent, legal right to live among us, giving away what is left of our Social Security System, saddling the US public with an inevitability of personal income tax increases to support the offered "welfare" services for these "newest Americans." It is all too much to endure. Votes favoring the support of the latest Kennedy immigration giveaway of the USA was 100% Democrat and the traitorous half of the Republicans, leaving no doubt that, short of an intervention by the Devine, S1348 will survive the cloture vote and move to US Senate passage.
EVERY US Senator who supports this abomination of US cultural destruction (a terrorist act in my opinion greater than that of AlQueda to date) must be opposed in their respective primary and thrown from office! WE MUST NOT FORGET by 2008, nor 2010, nor 2012; they must all be removed; this nation's government, to survive as a true "representative democracy" must be cleansed on a BI PARTISAN basis.
Personally, I think it time that the true conservatives organize into a third party movement; there are US House districts and US Senate races that conservatives alone could win, possibly garnering currently serving conservatives to bolt their party and join the new US Conservative Party.

The Vermont Solution (copyright pending)
The other night on O'Reilly I saw a moonbat who is pushing an effort to have Vermont secede from the US (with 17% support in the state!). I say we let ‘em go….but first, we round up all the illegals and dump in Vermont.

The US/Mexico border is almost 2,000 miles, but the Vermont border is less than 20% of that distance. BAM! I just saved 80% of the cost and solved our illegal problem. On the downside, we lose Vermont…..oh wait, there are no downsides.

we can't send them back
The HELL we can't, build the damn fence, plug it
in the high voltage socket and fire up the
buses!!!!

Now that is not hard-------IS IT?

immigration
What part of the word "illegal" does Congress have a problem understanding? At this point in time Homeland Securety should be in charge of our immigration system. Yes, Mexico is a BIG problem, with FOX giving advise on how to enter our borders and milk our systems. But to me a larger problem are our Canadian borders. Canada gives host to a large number of terrorist cells.
We have "immigrants" walking in from the North and again being give aid and comfort at tax payers expence. On the other hand, why should our Border Patrole do their jobs when the President doesn't support their efforts. Our own government leaves then hanging out to dry and pays the illegals to put our Americans in jail. WHY ARE AMERICANS LETTING ELECTED OFFICIALS GIVE OUR COUNTRY AND RIGHTS A WAY.

Charlie and Ridly
I completely understand your frustration with Ted Kennedy...the guy’s a drunken idiot and a murderer...however, please don’t make comments about assassination. I know they are mostly tongue-in-cheek and you are just making a point…but the moonbats use those comments on their own sites (frequently edited) as “proof” that conservatives are war-mongering trailer park rednecks. “Those Nazis on TH are all saying the Democrat leaders should be assassinated...blah, blah”. Thanks.

now what do I do?
I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. I wrote a letter to my Rep. Senators telling them how I felt about this, told them it was an issue that would influence my vote. They replied with the standard pat on the head - "We've read it and we'll do what's best, just go back to your little life and vote for me like a good little republican". I thought that getting booed at the state convention would leave an impression, but obviously it didn't. Now I'm stuck. I can not vote in favor of them, but I'm certainly not voting Dem. I guess we had better get busy finding a third option.

Sorry, but I guess you ignored the topic or were too excited to post something completely off-base. If you're going to continue to spout that worn-out nonsense, at least wait for a topic that's somewhat related to it. Here' a clue, try reading the column 1st, then post.

What I found meainingful is that she didnt say amnesty, but she did say catholic and protestant.

bummer

She seems to hold British protestants in very high regard.

This got me to thinking about cultural contributions from the British. One thing I think the British people do better than any other race is suckup. My Lord, Your highness, your royal highness, your majesty, they really know how to lay it on thick. But at the same time they are also the best at being sarcastic. Even though I dont like Hitchens, if I am flipping through channels and see his face I have to listen cuz I just cant get enough of British sarcasm. He needs to get his own show by the way.

Icedog
Regarding your comments about Charlie and Ridly's "assassination" comments: I agree with you.

I also think that the far left (aka socialists) would post that kind of stuff under a false flag (conservative), then quote it on their blog boards as being evidence of right-wing insanity.

The USA is fighting two wars right now: the War against IslamoFascism and the War against Socialism.

Khrushchev stated during the Cold War that America will fall from within. The socialists have been working toward that goal for many decades now. People like Murtha, Reid, Kerry, Clinton, and many others are actively working toward the socialist goal of eliminating capitalism and establishing socialism in the USA.

Protestantism vs. Catholicism
Gusto and Drew,

You are both correct in your statements.

Ann's "use of Catholic France, Spain, and Portugal to illustrate your point on American culture versus that of Quebec, Mexico, and Brazil, (through a reference to Huntington’s book) is inaccurate."

"I think Ann was trying to say that the United States would have started out cultural different if it were a colony of Spain, France, or Portugal."

Ann should have qualified her use of Huntington's quote by stating that the USA would be different if it had been a colony of Spain, France, or Portugal. She should have stayed away from the Protestant vs. Catholic reference, and for that matter, and Huntington should have as well.

I can only hope that Ann truly is not anti-Catholic.

I do believe I'd hold a block party....
if a third Kennedy were to be assassinated.

And I'd hold another for any crafter of the Real ID, the SPP or the amnesty bill.

I used to believe is was our duty to respect our elected officials. I will no longer show anything but contempt toward any legislator who endorses any of the three.

Regionalism is Communism and I will not go down without a fight. The crafters of the NAU ( SPP if you will) have refused to enforce immigration laws in the past; and have crafted legislation a current form which will be impossible to enforce tomorrow. All the while marching us steadfast into a European style trading block.

Regionalism is Communism people ----> Are you "getting it"?

Kennedy's sell out
Knowing how fair and (un)balanced our people in Congress are, I'm sure they will be giving carte blanche to all of us. We are now free to commit felonies, line up for all the freebies, have our babies courtesy of the rest of the taxpayers, speak any language we want, disobey any and all laws without consequences. Oh, goody, I've always thought the IRS laws were outdated. I think I'll quit paying taxes. Surely, this is only fair. Mr. Kennedy, take note. You have just surrendered to Mexico. You may now add that to your fine resume. By the way,Teddy, the legal immogrants are complaining they want to being all their relatives over. Say, your voting block could 50 million more very soon, But, I think the joke will be on you.
The Mexicans will elect their own, and you'll be out on your fat bottom. Bienvenidos a Mexico!

Here in America we are proud, usually of our exports both in material and culture. That stopped about 20 years ago, I think. I truly apologize for our more detestable predilections that have made their way to your beautiful shores. I will say that the greatest number of those with the courage to leave here and move halfway around the world would be those of a character based on self-reliance. Those on the government teat would not be enticed to go so far for less. As a US servicemember, the unwavering support of the Aussies has been much appreciated. It always felt better seeing those Aussies at our side in the ME. Thanks.

assuming you are fuh-real, hopefully one day you will understand that today the wealth and power is not in the goverment but lies in the media.

For a while there like 2003-2006 I was optimistic that the "blogosphere" was going to take power back from the media, but then I realized that duh the power can play the blogosphere game too, and when they succesfully turn it into a confusing misinformational and disinformational mess as they are even here at townhall, I think people will get frustrated and turn back to traditional sources. but thats just me

Thankfully there is one real alternative, CBN.

but on a brighter note
things actually arent all thta bad, so I dont really have all that much contempt for the power

Yo. Since when are the words "Big" and "Mick" ever used in the same sentence. Whatever happened to the Irish curse? And just where do you get off sounding so edumacated? It can't be that your immigrant forbears worked their hairy, white *sses off to see to it that you got a chance that they didn't! Keep up the good fight, givin' it with both barrels and no apologies. USS ENTERPRISE

Not Good
This President and the Senate want the amnesty this year, before the election. They are determined to ram it through, because they have a vested interest in it.

This is because both sides are trying to figure out how best to create 16 million new voters. Both Republicans and Democrats are salivating at this chance to buy more votes.

I refer to Mac Johnson's excellent piece on this.

It's not a question of "if", it's a question of "when" and "how".

If illegal immigration isn't your most important issue, it should be.

The future of our country is at stake.

Ted Kennedy Destroyed this Nation
Our nation is fast becoming the Brazil of North America - and we are told to constantly celebrate diversity with a capital D. I for one do not celebrate it - I fear it. Very sad state of affairs. I think if the US experiences a real downturn in our economy - it may relieve us of all the illegals. God Save America from the left, the pc crowd and the multicultists....I am 39 yo - and already making plans of retiring to Ireland if things do not change.

Roach Motel
Thank, Ann, for saying it like it is. What we were sold in the 60's that is was only fair to open up our borders to the world, was just another way to destroy the unique heritage of the US by quietly excluding Europeans from legal immigration.

As a Catholic beneficiary of the WASP experiment I am a latecomer to the realization of what we are about to lose with this flood of people who have not been schooled in US values, but still love their "homeland" more (so why ae they coming here?)

How long has Ted Kennedy been working on behalf of the Communists?

Power to the people
Ann's biting comentary is always a refreshing change in today's PC world. I guess that I am a racist and bigot. I agree that Kennedy, and the lunatic left, want to change the demographics in this country. Don't ask me why, because I can't come up with a rational reason. In 20 years, most of them will be dead and what will the country that they left their children look like? It's not their country to destroy. It took over 200 years to build this great nation and they want to surrender it to foreigners. And for what...money?

They simply will not get away with this bill. There are 100+ million of us who already vote and don't have memories short enough to forget the traitors in the Senate. I haven't checked, but it wouldn't surprise me if all of the Republican traitors aren't up for re-election until 2010.

The good news is that RINOS are distingushing themselves from conservatives. Hopefully, they will be replaced with real conservatives in '08 and '10.

I don't think that cloture votes is the reason Reid wants to table the bill. There has been so much rage coming at them for the past week, they're probably afraid to go ahead with the bill. If that's true, then what's left of our democracy still works. Power to the people (who vote).

Occasionally, Ann does surprise me.
This was really an outstanding article.

While I found Ann's books, "Slander", and "Treason", most insightful and well documented, I had become disenchanted with a number of her recent columns, and with her television appearances.

But here she has written a splendid piece, and I congratulate her.

Ann sometimes is as incapable as Rush Limbaugh in criticizing President Bush, but here she expresses no such reluctance...at least to the extent of condemning the GOP base for defending Bush for this fiasco of an immigration plan.

Ann is on point in placing the original sin onto Ted Kennedy's disastrous 1965 immigration overhaul scheme. That did radically reorder the mix of immigrants, drastically reducing those of European heritage, and opening up the floodgates from 3rd world impoverished areas.

That has greatly harmed our nation.

A sane immigration policy would place a premium upon educated, highly skilled immigrants. If they happen to come from Brazil or Bangladesh, fine. If they happen to be from Scotland or Scandanavia, fine.

The point is government policy should promote immigrants who possess the educational backgrounds and prized skills needed to enrich our nation, rather than current government policy which sets strict limits on those types of immigrants, while allowing in hordes of the most ignorant and illiterate.

This despicable policy, conceived originally by Ted Kennedy and now embraced by President Bush, is a recipe for national suicide.

Illegal aliens (when crossing the border) should be treated with all the "love & care" that Ted Kennedy Mary Jo Kopechne. If the illegal aliens somehow manage to get past the border guards, they should be treated with all the "love & care" that Janet Reno & the Clintons treated the Branch Dividans.

Wow, that was a pretty scathing rebuttal. The way you picked apart each of Ann's claims and proved that her logic was completely twisted and unsupportable. I especially enjoyed how you offered evidence that contradicts all Ann’s main points and proved her comments were “outrageous” just for the sake of gaining attention.

Bill writes: June, 07, 2007 7:21 AM
I had come to defend my vote for Bush by saying, "consider the alternative - John Kerry." But Kerry is, at least, honest in his contempt for taxpaying citizens.

DESKJOCKEY RESPONDS

Folks, let me make a couple of points based on Bill’s disappointment. If we would have taken some time back in ’98 when it was known Bush was running and merely read several of the TX newspapers that kindly archived every article on Bush for quick reference, he’d never been nominated.

Bush has been true to his convictions in those articles. To be shocked over amnesty is merely a statement that one didn’t bother to investigate the candidate before nominating him, but rather listened to his sound bites, such as his anmesty sound bites today convincing you that you are a traitor.

Let us not do this in ’08, but rather study what the candidates really are about and this is best done by private research and staying away from sound bites and image making for the dumb masses.

Now here is my advice/strategy. If there is not a good candidate in the Republicrat Parties, and history demonstrates most likely there will not be one, vote a third party or write in a candidate. I did this in ’00 & ’04. You might say I’m throwing my vote away, my party always says to vote for the lesser of two evils and stay in the Republicrat family.

Let us look at that theory from a pragmatic perspective.

In the red & blue states you can vote outside the Republicrat Parties with impunity because those states are already determined. I was in such a state so my vote for an independent candidate had no impact on the results. What is the benefit of this? Well the Republicrat Parties have raised the threshold nationally and statewide to make third parties problematic after the Perot scare. Perot having quit, then re-enter the race, and talking about Bush 1 black helicopters spying at his daughter’s wedding and having a vice president candidate who through no fault of his own was still suffering mental disorders, the guy got 19% of the vote. If he had not been a nut job, he very likely would have won while spending a fraction of the money of the Republicrat Parties. If a third party gets enough votes they get into the debates and the world changes. What Klinton did upon winning was to immediately co-opt the Perot followers by passing every one of his platform items except NAFTA that Bush 1 had ready for a vote.

Perot's ideology won, getting passed without him having to waste time in DC to make it happen.

Therefore only those in the purple states need worry about the lesser of two evils nonsense, as evil, even the lesser evil of a Bush, is still extremely evil.

But is there a moral argument against voting the pragmatic lesser of two evils in the purple states? Let me share with you the pathetic degeneration of morality in our voting by recapping the most difficult election in the history of mankind.

Prior to the pending vote, there had been a one party system since the formation of the country. However, a second party decided to enter the election. The problem was that this country was the biggest strongest country that ever existed and its military power was far, far superior to anything that ever existed and they could and would crush any second party.

Never the less the new party decided to go ahead and sign a formal submission of their party to be in the election, they believing they were acting in the will of God. As one signer said, we will be hung together. They understood they had signed their guaranteed death warrant and that their properties and families would be lost. But they went ahead with a moral conviction of doing what is right, not pragmatic.

One signer said, "Duty is ours; results are God’s."

Another said, "God will raise up friends for us."

Yet another said, "I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator."

Yet another said, " If your cause is just, you may look with confidence to the Lord and entreat Him to plead it as his own."

Yet another said, "God governs in the affairs of men... imploring the assistance of Heaven"

Clearly, these men believed that voting for their candidate that God would ordain rather than the lesser of two evils, no matter that it was guaranteed suicide, must be done in faith and not based on pragmatic polls.

So they submitted their party for the election and the document today is known as the Declaration of Independence and the other party has never won another election in this country.

Clearly, we sacrifice nothing by not voting for the Republicrat Party if they can not produce a tolerable candidate, other than bragging rights that our Jersey was the winning team in the super bowl game on election night.

Do you honestly think our founders would have voted for most of the candidates who are collectivist no different than the King, that they were willing to put their life on the line to vote against.

Think about how easily you sell your vote away, while others had to vote with their life if their candidate didn't win.

Anti-illegal Alien "Racists"
The next time a so-called hispanic accuses Americans(including African Americans who are overwhelmingly against illegal immigration) of being racist for resisting their orchestrated invasion of our country, ask them, "Just what race are you? I need to know what race I am being racist against!"

You're one of the reasons dishonest Democrats get to continue to pretend they hold the high moral ground, even though they're not even civilized -- it's because every now and then, a FOOL who calls himself a conservative says something he thinks is funny, but is actually vicious and stupid.

Get this kind of the talk the HELL off of Townhall. We don't want to be associated with it.

I don't like Kennedy any more than you do, but I'd rather he repented -- and if not, then that he resign.

Roach Motel
Well, pretty much what I expected for the typical Ann Coulter column on illegals migrating across the border. The typical “no border advocates” who think that allowing illegals to cross the border with no controls is the “right” thing to do, the advocates of law enforcement who are against this bill because it is a repeat of 1986, and finally the Ann haters who show up just to post something offensive about Ann or Republicans, or Bush and that has nothing at all to do with the column in question.

I am surprised to see that no one has taken the title of the column and ran with it. “The roach motel” is ripe for parody and takeoff; “illegals check in but don’t check out”.

Just look at the advertisement from Black Flag:

Insects Trapped:
- German cockroaches
- American cockroaches
- Smokey Brown cockroaches
- Palmetto bugs
- Water bugs
- Spiders
- Crickets
- Scorpions
- Mexicans crossing the border

Use Tips:

Place Roach Motels near walls or corners, under sinks, in cabinets, behind appliances such as your refrigerator, near the southern border, and other areas where roaches live and breed.
If after 3 days, you have not trapped any illegals, bait with tacos or move Roach Motels to a different location.
Roach Motel will tell you if you have an illegal problem and how bad it is. If a Roach Motel trap is filled with more than 10 million illegals within 24 hours, you have a heavy migration and should consider calling Ted the swimmer.

WSJ Shocker on Globalization

“Globalization will put as many as 40 million American jobs at risk of being shipped out of the country in the next decade or two.” This comes from a very unusual source: the Wall Street Journal — one of the strongest and most consistent advocates of unchecked globalization. Yet a recent article entitled “Pain From Free Trade Spurs Second Thoughts” chronicles the mounting economic repercussions for US workers seems to represent a major crack in their globalization armor.

It concludes not by calling for any trade restrictions, but rather for more help for American workers. To their credit, they call for more than just token retraining programs, which is positive. The star of the article, an economist, is a respected Democratic consultant and apparently the presidential candidates are listening.

WSJ: For decades, Alan S. Blinder — Princeton University economist, former Federal Reserve Board vice chairman perennial adviser to Democratic presidential candidates — argued, along with most economists, that free trade enriches the U.S. and its trading partners, despite the harm it does to some workers…Yet today Mr. Blinder has changed his message — helping lead a growing band of economists and policy makers who say the downsides of trade in today’s economy are deeper than they once realized.

Mr. Blinder…remains an implacable opponent of tariffs and trade barriers. But now he is saying loudly that a new industrial revolution — communication technology that allows services to be delivered electronically from afar — will put as many as 40 million American jobs at risk of being shipped out of the country in the next decade or two. That’s more than double the total of workers employed in manufacturing today. The job insecurity those workers face today is “only the tip of a very big iceberg,” Mr. Blinder says.

Bushes America roach model
Keep up the good work Anne, you are an inspiration to all decent American people who are just sick and tired of all the garbage.

Icedog & DaviMac
You two need to wake up ans smell the coffee or SOMETHING. The Left Liberal Democrats have been making up lies and half truths probabaly a lot longer than you can remember. They told lies about the war in Vietnam,, they told lies out of the Oval office from 1992 to 2000, they are telling lies now about the war in Iraq and this so called Immigration Reform Legislation and will continue to tell lies as long as there are idiots out there who will not think or research for themselves the true facts. If they want to say the Republicans are crazy, war mongering, assasantion proponents they don't need to quote some little ole lowly person like me off of Townhall.com. The fact that you are worried about what some Socialist Liberal Left Wing Butthead in Washington would use to point a finger at the Republican Party so be it. They already got you running scared of what they MIGHT be able to convince some idiot dunce of, so your playing right into their hands. Granted, a call for assassination is a bit much and that isn't really what I was advocating, only that the people whom ever they were that commited the assassinations against John and Bobby Kennedy picked the wrong Kennedy. They should have picked the murdering Kennedy. You know the one I'm talking about right? The one that left a woman in a sunken car, in a river, and walked away and then walked away from punishment as well after at the least committing Voluntary Man Slaughter if not out and out murder. Icedog and DavidMac both need to read ALL of the post before condeming others for their post, AND GET OFF THE FENCE.

Deskjocky, intriguing but wrong.
"Clearly, we sacrifice nothing by not voting for the Republicrat Party "

What we sacrifice is time.

The country is on an accelerating slide into socialism, atheism, and obscurity. Good Republicans put on the brakes. Bad Republicans reduce the efficiency of the brakes. But Democrats cut the brake lines. Bad Republicans won't stop the slide, but electing Democrats ensures immediate socialism, and near-immediate totalitarianism.

What we need to be doing, if you're going to cast us all in the role of our founders, is to vote Republican consistently, but also begin planning for a new nation based on originalist principles. Voting Republican gives us time to make other plans.

I have NO IDEA how to initiate such a plan. Pick a section of the country, move there, and seceed? Overthrow the government? Advocate partition into Red/Blue nations? None of those are attractive alternatives. But it's clear that American liberty and economic dominance are over, and if we really think those are worth preserving -- especially liberty -- we need to start discussing what's next after America becomes Soviet Union Opus 21st Century.

Bush & Gore
I really don't care if it's Al Gore talking about global warming or George Bush talking about Kennedy's immigration bill, I will almost certainly disagree with anyone who tells me I have no right to disagree with them.

ridly
If you think I'm "on the fence" then you or either new to TH or you don't read many of the comments posted here.

We can't prevent liberals from “lying” about conservative opinions or comments, but we can avoid feeding them ammo.

There are some Americans who are “on the fence” and if they look at the conservative side of an issue and see, “KILL ‘EM ALL”, “Assassinate the B*stards”, "Nuke 'em", etc., it might sway them to join the lib dark side.

Conservative values and ideology can stand on their own merit...leave the rhetoric, name-calling, and hate-filled spewing to the liberals.

Ann the hard a$$
That's why I like you Ann....or maybe it is that long hair of yours (wolf whistle).

And Teddy K. If you ever watched home movies of Bobby, Ted and John, Teddy was the guy they all ganged up on, all the time. I always believed that's because he was the "runt" in the family.

Needless to say, growing up, I never had any affection for TK. He seemed "screwey" compared to his pragmatic brothers. It is no wonder that TK never gets anything right. He got tackled too many times and tossed on his head by his older brothers.

My favorite illegal moment
I know this is a non-sequitur, but I thought I'd share it anyway. A Mexican in front of me in line at the supermarket will pay for their groceries with multiple forms of government assistance. They have their child translate their payment instructions to the cashier since they don’t speak a lick of English. This happens every third or fourth time I go to the supermarket.

Lets try
Limbo Competition ala Bush next, "How low can he go?" Can he actually blame the nation for the problems he and others have ignored? Why yes, and he does not seem above blaming Republicans for his own shortcomings, i.e. compromised constipation, either.
