Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

I'm off to Paris! I hereby revoke every churlish remark I've ever made about those lovely Gallic people. (But in light of former New Jersey governor and current "gay American" Jim McGreevey's latest career move, I redouble everything I've ever said about the Episcopalians.)

With Nicolas Sarkozy's decisive victory as the new president of France, the French have produced their first pro-American ruler since Louis XVI.

In celebration of France's spectacular return to Western civilization, I bought a Herve Leger dress on Monday, and we're having croissants for breakfast every day this week. This delicate French pastry, by the way, is in the shape of a crescent to commemorate the Crusaders' victory over Islam. Aren't the French just peachy?

"Sarkozy the American," as he is known in France, called Muslim rioters "scum." Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

He explained his position on Muslim immigrants in France, saying: "Nobody has to, I repeat, live in France. But when you live in France, you respect its rules. That is to say that you are not a polygamist. ... One doesn't practice female genital mutilation on one's daughters, one doesn't slit the throat of the sheep, and one respects the republican rules."

Sarko never issued an apology or entered rehab. To the contrary, he said: "I called some individuals that I refuse to call 'youth' by the name they deserve. ... I never felt that by saying 'scum' I was being vulgar, hypocritical or insincere."

Is there a single American politician who would speak so clearly without then apologizing to Howard Dean?

It looks like the Democrats are going to have to drop their talking point about Bush irritating the rest of the world. Evidently not as much as Muslim terrorists irritate the rest of the world. The politicians who hate Bush keep being dumped by their own voters.

At the Democratic presidential debate a few weeks ago, B. Hussein Obama carped that Bush had "alienate(d) the world community" and vowed that he would build "the sort of alliances and trust around the world that has been so lacking over the last six years."

Democrats are terrific at building alliances. Remember how Jimmy Carter won the love of the world by ditching our ally the Shah of Iran, allowing him be replaced by a string of crazy ayatollahs? Since then, we haven't heard a peep from that area of the world.

The smartest woman in the world sniped that she would "create alliances instead of alienation."

Yes, it was spellbinding how her husband charmed North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung and his sociopathic son Kim Jong Il by showering them with visits from Jimmy Carter and gifts from love-machine Madeleine Albright. And that was that: No more trouble from North Korea!

As I understand it, the center of the supposedly America-hating world is France. But now it turns out even the French don't hate America as much as liberals do.

Au contraire! (We can say that again!) Our Georgie is the most popular American with the French since Jerry Lewis.

All over the civilized world, voters are turning terrorist-coddling liberals out of office and voting for politicians friendly toward Bush, the world's sworn enemy of Islamic fascism.

Those foreign leaders so admired by Democrats for hating George Bush and loving Saddam Hussein are being replaced by rulers who pledge their friendship to the United States.

Retrospectively, B. Hussein Obama's answer about our most important ally being "the European Union" may eventually become true, thanks to Bush's ceaseless ally-making.

In Germany, pro-American Angela Merkel crushed the mincing anti-American chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in 2005.

Last year, conservatives swept Canada, making Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper the prime minister. I haven't loved Canadians this much since the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard is both the longest-serving Australian prime minister and -- by his own account -- the most conservative. As The New York Times rooted for his defeat in 2004, claiming Australians were furious with him for his support of the Iraq war, he won a historic third term.

Along with Howard, Bush's staunchest ally in the war on terrorism has been Britain's Labor Party leader Tony Blair. He's about to leave office -- only to be replaced by a leader from the even more pro-American Conservative Party.

American celebrities who threaten to move out of the country every election rather than live under a conservative leader are running out of countries to move to.

Only Spain remains a nation of women. As long as Spain exists, it will not outlive the shame of its gutless capitulation to terrorist bombings in 2004. It is worse than Sweden's neutrality toward Hitler.

But France! Until this week, France seemed a less likely place to find someone who supports America than a meeting of Democrats.

Apparently, even the French prefer Western civilization to clitorectomy-performing, car-burning savages.

The Democratic Party is now officially the only organization on Earth that does not take the threat of Islamic fascism seriously. Between the Democrats and the media, America has gone from its usual position as the world's last hope to radical Islam's last hope.

Great column Annie! See you in Paris...

Haaaaay Laaaaaady!!
Excellent article.

"The Democratic Party is now officially the only organization on Earth that does not take the threat of Islamic fascism seriously."

Super column Ann!
But I can hear the flutter of Moonbats now! Flying to attack you.

Ha! The Liberals and Muslims in France will probably riot again and burn a bunch more cars!

Great observations
I hadn't realized the U S was so popular. But then, I've been reading NEWSWEEK, TIME, and The New York Times. No wonder I was misinformed.

Thanks for the enlightenment, Ann.

Great column, Ann
I would like to see you as President Ann Coulter or Supreme
Court Justice Ann Coulter. Can't you just see that group of nitwit leftists questioning Ann Coulter as a nominee for the Supreme Court. She would let the world see what a bunch of disingenuous a**es are the the likes of Kennedy, Biden, Shumer, et ilk (al).

Oh, and.......
God save us from the demoncrats!!!!

It's about time France!!!
Now you can help us defeat the terrorists by sending troops to Iraq and helping us win the war, and wipe the Islamic facists off of the map, and then we will consider that what you owe us for bailing you out of two world wars.

Let's just hope that more countries go conservitive and that we vote a Republican into the hosue in 08 and the Dems out.

Viva La France!
If President Bush is such an unintellectual dolt, then why is the rest of the free world beginning to follow his leadership? hmmm It is interesting that in a time when news can travel around the world in a fraction of a second, it takes so long for these governments to change. However, real leadership does not fail because the road is hard or the followers few. Perhaps the Democrats will enter 2008 facing a formerly embattled Republican President surrounded by newly converted conservative allies. The tables could be turning in our favor. How many of our noble Republican Presidential Candidates will then be distancing themselves from the President?

Merci Vraiment

Does that mean I can quit boycotting French fries?

Wow, what a wonderful refreshing breath of air and Light!!Great job Ann! We need to hear more about the rejuvenated conservatives of the world. Vive Le Americain!!!

lkawi

Not so fast
Remember these are the French were talking about. They can change directions about as fast as bj bill anticipating being caught by hillery, her thighness, doing the cigar.

But until they do
We can call them (like a cartoonist here at TH)
FRIENDSHIP FRIES! And eat them, and croissants too!

Scoop on the Brave New Trend
Patriots the world over are waving red, white and/or blue in various combinations!

Wow, the globe is turning and the mainstream media didn't catch it.
(Maybe they're just refusing to deliver the news.)

One question: Why is the media sitting silently on the sidelines on this important world trend, to the point that it takes a snarky columnist to expose their spite?

Ann's biting commentary pulls the air out of the liberal and mainstream media's sails and delivers the big BOO-YAH! on France (France!).

I, for one, am looking forward to once more being friends (until they p*ss me off again).

Ann Coulter for Press Secretary
and Laura Ingraham for Attorney General.

Time for some hot babes instead of Hillary "Cellulite" Clinton and Nancy "deer in headlight eyes" Pelosi.

Vive la France!
and it's about d@mned time! I was wondering what had happened to our oldest ally. The rest of Europe can equivicate and fumble about. "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" will prevail over the Islamo-facists. I think I'll go turn on "Casablanca" and watch the scene as "La Marseillaise" is sung in Rick's Cafe...

Allons enfants de la patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé ! (bis)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes,
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras
Égorger nos fils, nos compagnes !

Refrain

Aux armes, citoyens !
Formez vos bataillons !
Marchons ! Marchons !
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons !

***

Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

Refrain

Grab your weapons, citizens!
Form your batallions!
Let us march! Let us march!
May impure blood
Water our fields!

A tale of two Parises
Who says that there is no justice?

One Paris goes to prison, while another one releases itself from a self-imposed prison of socialism!

Vive la France!

The Republican party could use
a few men like Sarkozy. Telling it like it is without apologizing for saying the truth. What a novel concept!

As an aside, if anyone is interested in Mark Steyn or Jack Kelly's take on the French election, there's links for both here:

http://exeter.townhall.com/

At Last!
I can now buy a bottle of Wild Turkey - Ann's probably did more for the French economy with this column than the previous two French presidents over their entire terms.

Something good is afoot . . .
It is very reassuring to see the emergence of conservative leaders across the western world. Now if we here in Israel can just get rid of Olmert and bring Bibi back in! It is definitely a possibility, and then we would have an all-star cast. I am surprised at Italy, frankly. I wouldn't have pegged them for capitulating and electing a leftist in the last election. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Let us hope and pray that this "trend" continues and picks up momentum. Time for Scandinavia, Italy, and Spain to get on board. Not a moment to waste.

Ann's Grasp Of Reality...
...has been described as tenuous at times but her grasp of UK politics is 'off the wall' as you Americans say.

Acetate
Spew-alert, PLEASE!! =)

Ann has, in this article, left no scraps for the moonbats to nit-pick on as they usually do (er well the 3 that actually READ what she writes).

Another excellent write. Taking into account French history, we can expect the libs to start seeing the light around '09 or '10 ... 3k.

"... and gifts from love-machine Madeleine Albright."

I SAID ONCE BEFORE
that when push comes to shove the Europeans, given their history, would never succumb to Islamofacists taking over their countries.
We are now starting to see that take hold. Maybe now this sentiment will start drifting westward instead of the other way around.
It is so ironic that the liberal element in France took to the streets like churlish children to burn cars and riot. I always thought that it was 'libertie,fraternatie & equalatie' with these nitwits.
Yeah, only if you think and speak and act just like they do. Just like in this country.
Also typical is the lack of LLM coverage of Sarko's election. If it had been the other way around and the liberal had won there would be around the clock coverage.
Can't you just see it now? The French complaining about the liberals in office in our country.
Acetate, you get the Wild Turkey. I'll get the Grey Goose.
Vive la France.

Not so fast, Boys
I'll see your Wild Turkey and Grey Goose... and raise you a magnum of Verve Cliquot... "a fine French wine", in the words of Cap't Louie Renault!

Something of a Record
Twenty-seven posts so far on an Ann Coulter column, and only one lame Lefty comment from "vespanat".

Of course, it's early yet...

This article
is rich and one of Ann's best. The last sentence is purely wonderful. The democrats being the only ones now who don't take Islam seriously. OMG, it is just too funny!

Vive le France! Spurning the scum and what a man that Sarkozy is. We need some more men like him.

I just saw a segment the other night about Sharia law being practiced all over Britain now. You guys are in deep doo doo there.

BigBelly
hahahaha! That was good...Ann, you hit it here and I actually have some hope that I might be able to shop Williams-Sonoma once again!

Wait,Primus
I can raise you...Le Guavulin and say a hoya de monterey???

Not Lefty...
...just accurate. Tony Blair is not being replaced by the Conservative leader, Ann is factually incorrect. Rather like my old mate Peppermints assertion that we have Sharia Law in the UK. I would be intrigued to hear what your source is.

I'll follow Celtic Dragon's lead...
... with a song now all but forgotten, promising to stand by our friends abroad. From the score of THIS IS THE ARMY, I give you an Irving Berlin classic:

All is ready, so just hold steady.
We'll soon be marching to the pier!
No more waiting or hesitating;
The time to sail is here!
And to our mothers, and all the others
We'll soon be leaving over here:
"Goodbye, don't cry;
Just give us a parting cheer!"

REFRAIN:

WE'RE ON OUR WAY TO FRANCE!
THERE'S NOT A MINUTE TO SPARE... THAT'S WHY!
AND WHEN THE YANKS ADVANCE,
YOU KNOW WE'LL WANT TO BE THERE! GOODBYE!

C'est tres bon, non?

Another French company that I can now stop boycotting.

Thank Gawd...they make great products.

Great job, Ann.

Vive le France. No longer the Arc de Capitulation.

Vive La France!
Wow! Wonderful column, Ann! As said earlier, it put a grin from ear-to-ear on me!

This weekend MAY see me buying some French wine and some cheese! Woo hoo!

Vive La France! Vive La France!

C'est magnifique!
J'aime monsieur Sarkozy! Il est un souffle d'air frais!

Welcome back France! We always knew (hoped) you wouldn't go down without a fight. Vive la France!

Now To Get To...
...the lefty bit. What makes me really laugh isthat when you over the pond decided to take the diplomatically expedient and mature step of renaming french fries "freedom fries", it was because the French thought that invading Iraq probably wasn't a terribly good idea. Something which, as an Englishman (we hated the French before you even existed), pains me to say they were proven completely correct about.

We'll stick with your libation, but how about an El Rey del Mundo Robusto Larga, a beautiful tissue-wrapped oscuro bursting with flavor!

Here they come
And now, for your daily moonbat entertainment, we bring you the desperate rantings of vespanat and no more republicans!

THIS is all you've got?

Pathetic.

BIGbelly
Whoa amigo, that's MY WIFE, Chief Justice Ann Coulter-G you're talking about! And oh, BTW, I'm the insanely jealous type! haha.

Ann, babydoll, chalk up ANOTHER hard-hitting column guaranteed to make the libstain moonbats go rabid and froth up!

no more republicans
Two words that make you Libs tremble in your sandals -- Fred Thompson!

I plagarized this comment
Liberals love America the way O.J. loved Nicole

Primus54
Romeo y Julieta Anniv Robusto or a Bully.

Simply awesome.

Nothing Desparate...
...in my rantings, just stating facts. I hope Fred Thompson does win, I'm going to clean up at the bookmakers. You lot aren't allowed to bet on such things are you? Land of the Free eh!!

no more republicans
The way you libvermin mewl about Bush's approval rating in his second term cracks me up. Like he's running for a third term! haha.

I submit that HIS legacy will be far far better than The Impeached One's is.

Ann of 1,000 Dazed Opponents
Let's call her "Ann of a Thousand Dazed Victims of Her Sharp Barbs." Ann lives on the edge and occasionally she teeters, but she never really falls off, much as her enemies would like to see her land on her head. I have a hunch she and Sarkozy are going to have a beautiful friendship. If you like Ann, you're also going to like my columns, especially the humor, which you can find by clicking on my name above. I was Ann (call me Ishmael or call me Andy, I guess) before she was Ann. Anyway, come visit and lets' trade toasts (French champagne) about the woman the Left loves to hate.

steve maloney

French
Even the French aren't suicidal. They see the muslim freight train heading their way and just when it seemd all was lost they elected Nicolas Sarkozy. As usual great article Ann. Almost forgot I am John Doe.

nutnfinr
You're exactly right. In "Milestones" (the Islamic Mein Kampf), they need TWO ISlamic nations to achieve their goals of world domination under Islam. Carter alreday gave them Iran in 1979 and the Dhimmicrats want to give them Iraq in 2007.

Dhimmicrats are evidently too stupid to learn even the simpliest lesson from history. I nominate them for dogcatcher but nothing higher than that.

Not so fast on Canada
Stephen Harper is to "Conservative" as Paris Hilton is to "Carmelite Nun." Even that facade he portrayed in order to seduce the proles into voting for him was well to the left of Moderate Democrat, and since he has achieved his cushy American Lifestyle that permits him to sidestep all the long lines the Proles have to wait in, he has caved repeatedly to the screams and squalls of the GrabbyBabies. His most recent disgraceful action was allowing the country to be hijacked by some squalling French politicians into hauling Hockey Canada into Parliament Hill to explain why Shane Doan, the most upright Christian Western Canadian gentleman Hockey Canada has produced since Jim Schoenfeld, had been permitted to be Team Captain of Team Canada in whatever tournament we're playing overseas at the present -- because two years ago some referee accused him of saying "f***ing Frenchman" after being given a penalty. Two years ago this was investigated and Doan was cleared; someone said it but it was not him and in fact was not even a Canadian. Nevertheless, Spineless Steve didn't just roll his eyes and say "Oh Puh-LEEZE!" and insist the government move on. He allowed the government to be hijacked, and became an international laughingstock (apparently the life dream of Canada) while catapaulting Shane Doan to the status of Superman and inspiring him to lead his squad by example to the only unbeaten (so far) streak in the tournament.

Steven Harper is no Conservative. He's a spineless ninny who will do anything he can to avoid being sent back to stand in line like his government has insisted the rest of us do.

While "an army of one"
makes a nice recruiting slogan, it doesn't make an ally. Trust but verify.

Touchee! Vive La France!!
Thank you, Ann! You nailed it once again!! Keep unmasking the democrats and hopefully the people that elected them into power will wise up like the rest of the world and dump them. Like Madam Royal, we don't need a socialist leader like Madam Clinton. Sacre bleu!!!

Wow!
I wonder now if the women will start shaving their armpits and if they'll all start brushing their teeth!!! They're moving up in the world!!!!! Finally!!!!!

No More Republicans
Be careful what you wish for. sometimes it is not repubs and dems but liberals and conservative.

In Indiana one democrat elected is a pro gun, pro life, conservative demo who was a county sheriff. Not exactly your fathers liberal.

"called Muslim rioters"
'"Sarkozy the American," as he is known in France, called Muslim rioters "scum." Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.'

Oh geez!

I about fell out of my chair laughing my a$$ off with that line...

Has anyone noted one facet of France's vaunted socialized medicine at work?

Rioters who are stupid enough not to know the law are having their heads promptly looked at after the cops beat on them like they were cheap marimbas...

Viva La France!!
EU apparently despised what the extremists are doing to their countries and their cultures. It may have taken them awhile to make this great change, but at least they've begun.

Sarkozy seems like the next French John Wayne and Reagan wrapped into one.

Guess the MSM and George Soros's pocket book couldn't reach that far to influence them.

An Enemy of Radical Islamists--
Like Ann states Pres.Bush is,would secure our borders so as to close at least one route they use.
To say nothing of un-issuing 40,000 new "student"visas to Mideasterners.
Our president has done many things to stop terrorists,but he needs to do more.

vespanat
I agree - I'm not sure where Ann got her inside info on a conservative taking over for Blair - I've heard the opposite.

We can always hope, though!

Overall I though Ann was being a little overly optimistic in this column.

PLUG THAT BLOG
Got a hot one on RINO Bloomberg and my continuing war with this gun grabbing bucket o' slime.

Welcome to Adulthood
No one should really be surprised over the conservative movement in Europe. Much like the college teenagers who eventually give up their utopian fantasies when they leave college and get to experience the real world...the Europeans have finally realized that liberalism kills their economy, kills their culture, kills their traditions, and can even kill their citizens.

Welcome to reality Europe...we look forward to an unheralded era of cooperation (fingers crossed).

AudiR10
"Steven Harper is no Conservative. He's a spineless ninny who will do anything he can to avoid being sent back to stand in line like his government has insisted the rest of us do."

Thanks for the confirmation. That's what I had read about him too.

Ah Ann;
You should be careful, Remember, Louis XVI received a real shot haircut. It was even shorter than what Gunny would like. And his wife has been misquoted worse than GWB.

Yes libtards, “let them eat cake” has been quoted more times than “Bush lied”. Like the Bush lied meme; the cake thing is a lie. She actually said that the bakers should give more expensive bread to the people for the same price as the cheap bread when they were out of the cheap bread. As usual, no good deed goes unpunished. Hey, but never let the truth get in the way of a good slogan from the proletariat. Communists, and their libtard cousins, never let truth come knockin’ on their door, and if it did, they would not answer it.

shot = short
sorry

Jimbo
I certainly do not hope the current leader of the conservatives takes over from Blair (which he won't, not until the next general election anyway). Not Prime Minister material in my book, completely bereft of policy and his attempts to make himself seem 'a man of the people' are excruciating to watch. Gordon Brown is the heir apparent and personally I have got high hopes for him.
But I digress, I too think Ann is being a little "optimistic", I could be wrong but I don't see the Sarkozy's election as a sign the the French now love Bush, I think it was more to do with economic reasons.

ALL
Also, speaking of tolerant and loving Muslims, I just posted another article on how loving they really ARE!

More reason to make SURE that the Dhimmicratic Party never get the POTUS again!

Vic
Saw the usual Bush bashing bumper stickers on a lib's car yesterday but one caught my eye.

"Bet that ciagr doesn't taste so bad now."

Libstains STILL don't get that Bubba was IMPEACHED over perjury/suborning perjury.

As you say, they'll never let the truth get in the way of a good lie. It's doctrinal for them.

Dave Stone
BINGO!

Kicking the RINOs from the party would be the first step. Gun Grabbers Bloomberg (who I at war with) and Guilaini, McVain, as well as Kennedy errand boy Arnold need to take a hike over to the Dhimmicrat Party.

When people got fed up with the
Socialists and Socialistes, they boot the S.O.B.s out!

Conservatives often spend their time on their families, their churches, their jobs, houses and gardens. In one way, they make the world a better place, but when they are so busy with these things, that they simply allow the activist Left to take over, then the world becomes worse.

Liberalism, Political Correctness, and Multi-Culturalism had run amok in France so badly, the passive "Normies" could no longer sit in their cafes and sip espresso while dozens of cars were being torched every night.

It is a nice thing that the French adhere to the notion that no one is better than anyone else. However, when one makes a religion out of this Excessive Egalitarianism, it can go too far, and in France, they had gone beyond overboard. There ARE people in this world who are scum and not only deserve our distain, they deserve judgement, and - dare I say the word - punishment.

Here in Los Angeles, we have a decidely Leftist Board, a Mayor who is sympathetic to Subversive Illegals, and a Chief of Police who cares more about keeping his job by caving in to the pressure from the Mayor than he cares about standing up for his men.

My hope is that the good people of Los Angeles get fed up too.

When Anarchist trouble makers are given a pass, when Illegal Aliens are encouraged by the Mayor to sue the City, when Vagrants are allowed to get stoned and lie in the park in front of City Hall, when outside agitators are allowed to shut down businesses downtown so they can parade around and cause trouble on the international holiday for Communist subversives, eventually the passive "Normies" are going to get fed up and finally stand against the destruction of their culture.

If they wait too long, however, we may find that we have lost California to the agitators, just like what happened in South Africa a decade ago.

Montana looks better every day.

To GunnyG

Bravo
Bravo to Ann. Is she right? I hope so but I have been disappointed before. Here are a few examples: Jane Fonda is still free; George Soros still lives and breathes and does it on American soil; Clinton was "white washed" by Trent Lott during a mock trial presided over by a disappointing Judge Rehnquist; Newt resigned as Speaker without good cause; Delay ran for the tall grass without a good fight; No immigration policy after 6 years of Bush Presidency; No secure borders; too many Mothers on athletic fields interfering with Coaches trying to make men out of snibbling little girls with boy names; No counterattack by our religious leaders to protect our religious heritage; and on and on.

approval ratings
For those of you keeping score, the President's approval rating is still better than the approval rating numbers I have seen for Congress. You libs keep pointing out the low presidential approval rating, as do the Democratic members of congress. Last time I looked, the President was more popular than Congress.
The other thing that ticks me off is all this crap about the 2006 elections. Umm wake up, the Democrats did not win some huge mandate. Conseratives stayed home because the Republican candidates were too liberal. Yeah that was stupid (in my humble opinion), and lead to the Damocrats getting control of Congress. But the Damocrats are over playing their hand. They did not get control because of their liberal policies and beliefs. The Republicans lost because their supporters stayed home because they were not conservative enough. I am hoping Conservatives wake up, get off their butts and get involved in the process now. What the Damocrats have planned for you is too scary to think about.

Sarkozy's error
Sarkozy said "Nobody has to, I repeat, live in France. But when you live in France, you respect its rules. That is to say that you are not a polygamist. ... One doesn't practice female genital mutilation on one's daughters, one doesn't slit the throat of the sheep, and one respects the republican rules."

Actually they need to stop mutilating republican rules, stop slitting the throats of their daughters and start respecting the sheep.

Wow! I was 99% sure CA was a lost cause, but after watching that video I'm now 100% positive.

I guess we all should start practicing our excuses or apologies to our children and grandchildren....I'm afraid history will not be too kind to our generation of so-called Americans.

"Woodrow Wilson, a supremely self-confident intellectual, regarded Marshall as a "small-caliber man" and had not wanted him on his ticket in 1912."

Wilson, a pacifist Dhimmi who kept the US/BR/Fr from crushing Germany in WW1 thus gauranteeing WW2. Not to mention his 14 point plan of crap and his League of Nations.

Wilson was seriously SUB-CALIBER!

If so, that so cool!!

LOL!

Yeah, The Congritter's approval rating hasn't been above 30% in about 75 years except for the few years AFTER the Republican revolution of 94 and then slide back down.

Will Rogers was right about Congress.

vespanat re: "Freedom" Fries
If I remember correctly (I was in the Sandbox when this happened), the reason we were so angry with the French was because of confirmation that satellite photos of our camps were being sold to Iraq by the French (That's the info we got over there). It may have been an underground group doing so, but it appeared that the French government was doing nothing about it.

Another Order Of Croissants, Merci!
From now on, I only order croissants. Great article Ann.

First suppose you were stupid, then suppose you were a Democrat, but I repeat myself.

Actually Mark Twain said Congressman, but Democrat was more fun.

To GunnyG
LOL, yes Wilson is really the original Democrap. He is responsible for the FTC, the Clayton Antitrust Act, the Underwood Act; attached to the measure was a graduated Federal income tax, and the Federal Reserve Act.

I have heard people blame Repubs for the Income Tax but it was Wilson who actually did it.

5 Cent Cigar?

Well, good luck. Yesterday, while picking up supplies, I noticed my local Tender Box had some cigars for $45 each. I had to settle for a 10 pack case of my usual Macanudo Prince Phillips for $8 each.

Congress' approval ratings
Actually, if you go back and check, you will see that Congress' approval rating has been lower than Bush's the entire time Bush has been in office.

Up until last November it could have been interpreted as a dissatisfaction with Republicans (by both liberals and conservatives), but now that the Democrats control Congress they can't make that excuse.

Of course, despite the complaining about Congress, very few incumbents lose their re-election bids.

Croissants...
Croissants are a Viennese pastry invented by the Austrians to commemorate the successful repel of the turkish siege of the city of Vienna. Doh!

Vic
Wilson, almost as bad as Carter was.

Another home run Ann
The French may not love George Bush, but they have seen that socialism is not working for them. Which may in the long run is a step in the right direction.

They apparently also realize that turning the other cheek gets you slapped on both sides of your face when dealing with Islamic extremists. So they have decided to quit turning their heads to be slapped again.

MacMoore
I'm more into spicy stogies like Maya and R y J Bully. Not a bad price per box either.

I like getting a hold of Te Amo Anniversario torpedos but it as hard finding them as it is pulling Rosie O'Donnell away from a Golden Corral buffet!

You Go Girl!
Once again- Ann is awesome!
Viva le croissant!

To Mac Moore
That was in 1913 and the average price of a cigar then was about 10 cents, so I guess the saying now would be "what this country needs is a good $1.00 cigar" and the average cigar would cost about $2.00. So your 10 pack is about average.

GunnyG
I just checked your blog. Thanks for the story about Jeff May. He exemplifies the types of Americans we USED to have in this country. I applaud his bravery. You're right, this story should be plastered across every news outlet!

To GunnyG
Carter was too incompetent to be bad.
…and speaking of Rosie…

Has Ron Paul aligned with Rosie?

Can we get a rise out of Liberty?

What Happened
The silence from our regular moonbats is almost frightening.

Is it National Flag Burning Day? ...or is there an Anti-American Parade somewhere? ...maybe a fund-raiser for to increase the public’s consciousness of the need for affirmative action programs for oppressed cross-dressing hermaphrodites?

INTERVIEWER: How does Paula Jones compare to Monica Lewinsky?

BJC: Close, but no cigar

To Lynne
Yeah I can hardly wait. LOL

It looks like I created a monster with this cigar thing.

But then again, Gunny is the one who started the subject.

JohnGalt: Close but no cigar! RITFLOL

Vic
Don't be in the blast area amigo! haha

JohnGalt
Almost blew my chow through my nose reading that. Well done.

Vic
No ya don't. I already got warned by Josue about my conduct two days ago. YOU started it. I was merely relaying some other good choices for stogies.

Loyal Democrat
I went to your link ... I'm still in tears from laughing so hard. You are quite the talented person. Keep it up .....

Primus54
Not a bad price, just bought the 5 pak.

Hey Lynnie
;-) back at you...

GunnyG
Which one... the Perdomo or the Te Amo?

WOW. I want my lib wackos back!!
Great article Ann.

The libs will sneak back in here and post some nonsense once they think it's safe.

I have noticed that in quite a few articles, not just by Ann, that once the posting on them has stopped or slowed to almost nothing they try to get in the last post trying to avoid any real debate.

To AreDNmYheaD
Yeah, we have to keep checking on the column every day. They will post all the way up to the last day before the new column comes out trying to get the "last word".

Primus/ALL
The Perdomo.

ALL. Check my blog for the letter I got back from RINO Bloomberg concerning my letter to him re: HIS illegal strawman gun buys.

BTW, it is in VIOLATION of Federal Law to even ATTEMPT a strawman buy, like his NYC "investigators" are doing.

ATF, ya reading this or what?

Facts are wrong
I've never quite gotten Ann. Is she supposed to be taken seriously?
A mainstream conservative in Europe is slightly to the right of Bill Clinton. She must have missed him calling on the U.S. to help stop global warming. Second, even with the Conservatives are in control in Canada, they still have a welfare state, and there is no Canadian military contribution to Iraq. Finally, Blair is not being replaced by a Tory. His successor will most likely be Gordon Brown, who helped craft the liberal 'New Labor' platform that swept them into power in 1997. Blair's support of the Iraq war is extremely unpopular, and that's about the only 'conservative' cause he supports, and Brown has been lukewarm on support of the war.
Ann seems to be living in some type of fantasy land this week. Thinking like this won't get the GOP back into power anytime soon.

I wish I voted for him!
We need more people like Sarkozy. It's about time to wipe off the face of the earth all that muslim scum.

France
Ann,

I hope you are right about France's seeming turn around. But, keep your powder (and computer) dry.

By the way, you looked great on H & C the other night!

RE: no more republicans
"Or the pathetic Republican presidential candidates for 2008."

Who else finds this statement ironic coming from a supporter of the party that is running an alien from the planet Neptune for president?

RE: SicSemperTyrannus
"Liberals love America the way O.J. loved Nicole"

Any liberal that claims they love the United States is a flat out liar. Oh, sure, they might love the real estate that the United States occupies, and perhaps the benefits that the United States grants them, but they, in fact, DESPISE the United States.

A country is more than just some dirt and a nice Mercedes. A country is an ideology, and the ideology that the United States was founded, and exists to this day, on is something that liberals, BY DEFINITION, are hostile to.

OOPS!
That should read: ATTENTION ON DECK!

Frank
EASY! You're talking about the woman I love!

Coulters usual bull
Whats simply ignored in this article is that Sarkozy is from the previously ruling centre right party. In fact the Socialists massively increased thier share of the vote boosting them from fourth to second. The party that really lost out was the far right which went from second to fourth. She hasn't checked the facts. shameful.

Vic
I wanna see the loser do hard time in Club Fed for it.

If Bush pushed THAT his legacy would be secure.

Iwouldliketonotbealoser
Thanks for your input, but your "facts" do not change the point that the new French president is a conservative who likes the U.S.A.

Nice try, though....

stripes, your 7:49 am post
mentions your elected legislator. I assume you refer to your national congressional rep. or senator, yes? If so, tell me HAS this person voted along with his/her far left peers despite the person's campaign platform? The reason I ask is because that is exactly what has happened in my state, both with state and national Democrats elected to office. They pretended to hold some conservative views on a few issues, but once in power, all allegiance went to the far left Democrats...every time, every legislation, every vote. What have you noticed with yours?

To GunnyG
I would like to see him do time too, but most violations of CFR result in a civil penalty (fine). In order to go criminal they have to prove willful violation. A civil penalty doesn't even have to go to court.

Du calme, s'il vous plait
A little reservation might be in order. Sarkozy will assuredly be better than Chirac -- but he WAS elected in France, not the New Hampshire primary.

France still sits in Europe next to Germany, with a long coastline on the Mediterranean, AKA the Immigrant Express.

Maybe France and Germany will agree to stop being Iran's codependent enablers. Maybe.

It's so good indeed
I love croissants!!! Guess I'll have to dispense with the French jokes from now on.

Sarko's remarks on Muslim youth is remarkable. Good for him. You're right, the dead-enders are running out of countries to hide in.

Wonder where Alec Baldwin will go now?

Viva La France!!!

PS I hope that dress was a mini-skirt!!!

GREAT COLUMN
YOU NEED YOUR OWN TELEVISED TALK SHOW....WHAT A HOOT THAT WOULD BE!

I only hope
that there are alot of gutless Republican politicians that are reading this column. They could learn from Sarkozy just as I have learned. P.S. I didn't know that was how the croissant got it's shape! Whoa are they ever fattening! Think I'll go and get some for Mother's Day! Time to celebrate!

Lolo
The gutless foursome, Arnold, Guiliani, McVain, and Bush all need to head to the Dhimmicrat-lite party. Maybe they can form a new party. How about the R.O.P. (Roll Over Party)

Welcome back France!
I take back all my backstabbing comments of the last 3 years. Hope to pop the cork with you one day soon.

Let me appologize in advance for the forthcomming boycott of French products by my country's liberal populace. I know, you just can't win. At least we conservatives appreciate capitalism so really is at least a moderate victory.

Great job Ann. We do have friends around the world. Nobody is inteviewing them, but they are out there.

anne
Je vous adore et pas seulement votre esprit ;-)

A cautionary note
I'm quite relieved that Sarkozy defeated "Segolene" (the KosKids are apparently on a first-name basis with all of their fellow socialists), but let's not get carried away.

The big test of France's resolve to remain--well, France--will be in the parliamentary elections. If Sarkozy's party doesn't win a majority, he'll have a hard time getting any changes through.

But I love the line "Nobody has to live in France." I'd love to see a lot more of our own country's so-called leaders take a similar attitude toward "immigrants" here in the land of the big PX.

C'est Si Bon

VINDICATION!
My, My, My! Conservatives elected in Canada, France, Germany, Australia and A Conservative replacing Blair in England! Could it be GWB is being vindicated WORLDWIDE!

To paraphrase on of the GREAT lines in Movie History:
“Nothin’ like the smell of Liberals soiling there pants in the morning.”

Coolnout
So you're jealous because she looks better than you in a dress?

Georgetwin
I thought that it went:

"nothing better than the smell of liberals being burnt at the stake in the morning!"

It is a good sign,
however, I don't think I'll quite "lose my head" with overt optimism just yet.

Nice to know that there is now another world leader who will take the headhunters seriously.

Totally enjoyed the column-

GunnyG
If they are all put to death, WHO WOULD WE LAUGH AT! I would pay to see their faces when they end up in Hell though! (LOL)

Question: What is Liberal Heaven?
72 Welfare Checks and all the Sam Adams you can drink?

Gunny
I love your sublety.

Over an hour now & I haven't said a bad word about France. I'm on the patch.

No matter who dominates in parliament, its still a great sign to see a conservative get the top office. Let's face it, we didn't think we'd see this anytime soon.

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau
My favorite cigar with a French word in the name.

To Lynne
I hope the news agencies keep track of this issue. He has 20 buisiness days to answer (4 weeks). I would like to see his answer but we probably will not get it.

Very lame liberal comebacks here
Almost none, in fact.

It's good that Sarkozy has recognized that France's huge, un-assimilated and disaffected Muslim population represents a threat to France's very existence. I appreciate the tough talk.

Now, let's see some action. Next riot, send the gendarmes in with the following orders: "Where you pass, I don't want to see anything moving except blood." Crack down on Muslim mosques that preach hatred and death to the infidel. Couple that with a little more economic opportunity for the Muslims, and in 5-10 years you won't have any more radical Muslim problem in France.

For a sample of how bad Muslim lawlessness in Paris (and other French cities) had gotten, read Theodore Dalrymple's article:

http://www.city-journal.org/html/12_4_the_barbarians.html

Ba Da Boom
Tsss

Nice Effort.

To Lynne
I have E-Mailed Fox.

Croissants all around!
The islamic extremists have a LONG view of history (the CRUSADES are still fresh in their mind--not to mention Thomas Jefferson's standing up to the Barbary Pirates ("millions for defense but not one cent for tribure")......
...and some people in the US now probably couldn't name the 20th century US presidents before FDR.

However, nothing like extremists and pro terrorist types to reawaken history in the a-historical "living in the postmodern "now" " votors. Even in France they are waking up.

Now if only they (in France, Europe) are not out populated by some who might want to vote out the great benefits of Western Civ.

GunnyG
Doggone it Gunny!! Post a spew alert! Your 3:25 PM reply to "coolnout" caused me to nearly fry my keyboard with the soda shooting from my nose!

I don't get it... how could ANY normal, red-blooded, heterosexual American male look at Ann C in all her splendor and see a "man"?

On the other hand... I HAVE seen a number of pictures of liberal female marchers and demonstrators, so perhaps I understand the confusion.

To Lynne
Part of the "willful" part is him knowing that he had to have a license to do the things that the letter mentions.

That will be a fairly hard thing to prove so they probably will not try. After all, the can fine him without going to court at all.

To Lynne
I hope they do charge him with criminal charges but I am not going to hold my breath waiting on it.

To Lynne
Judge Napolitano of Fox just said he will only be fined, probably less than $10,000.00 based on a 75,000 fine to some other rich guy who got charged with the same thing.

To Lynne
I'd vote for you.

Nobody like her

Thanks, Ann, for another great, great article.

In a very few words, you articulated that GWB has a lot more going for him than he is given credit for. Even those with short attention spans who visit this web site can understand this article.

Thanks for putting the current world situation into perspective.

To: pullthru
and a P.S. -- you misspelled "guerre".

Fuzzy
Hopefully the sign of a sweeping trend.

Georgetwin, good one!

Z82
First of all the quote has nothing to do with the Crimean War. Napoleon, very much prior to the Crimean war, admonished his favourite general, by telling him he fought very valiantly, but lost the battle. Secondly you didn’t learn to speak French in Montreal.

As for Mikey Mooreon
Seize ALL of his assets and exile him to Cuba with just the clothes on his back and he can tell us all how great it is.

Zb2
Thanks very much for the response and letting me explain what I said.

Croissants...
Croissants: Alan Davidson, editor of the Oxford Companion to Food states that no printed recipe for the present-day croissant appears in any French recipe book before the early 20th century; the earliest French reference to a croissant he found was among the "fantasy or luxury breads" in Payen's Des substances alimentaires, 1853. (Wikipedia)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croissant

They still taste good though... hate to be a party pooper... just they don't have anything to do with Crusaders. In fact, if they did have something to do with the French defeating Islamic forces, it would be to commemorate the Frankish victory over the invading Berber's (Spain/North Africa) at the Battle of Tours in 732.

FlipFloppery???
Are you trying (in your very liberal and inarticulate way) to say that Ann pulled a John Kerry?

Icedog

In the video you are referring to that was on Liberty's post, one of the voices cried, "Like Paul Revere said, 'the British are coming, the British are cominh'"

Well, you remember what happened to them, don't you? If the Mexicans plan on taking over CA, they had better plan on more than just one "Alamo" when they come marching up my street.

They don't get anything I've got unless they are willing to give up their life for it.

Stephen Harper
Stephen Harper is the leader of a minority government in Canada. The majority of Canadians voted for someone else. And so far he hasn't endorsed the war in Iraq.

Massachusetts Liberal

If what you say is true, what are YOU waiting for? Maybe you are exactly what they need over there.

Certa Bonum Certamun
Not French, but a good motto.

Well, besides the usual Liberal rants---though pretty tame today---there're the usual gang members who think they're in a chat room. Stick to intelligent comments on the essay and forget the cigars and other diversions---you're not using an instant messenger here.

Ann has a good post---actually a great post. She has a facile ability with words, and she makes her point very accurately. Vive la change, as it were. However. However, let's not count our chickens before they're hatched. We don't know the 'French' have changed, only the leader. Royale, the socialist, promised riots if Sarkozy was elected. And sure enough, that's what happened. Sounds like she knew about it in advance, eh?---as well as her impending loss.

The same case is current with other countries. It remains to be seen whether or not a real change in attitude and politics has been happening around the World, or a random spike in the political scene. More time and action are needed. Perhaps, the rank and file French are fearful of the Muslims and another War? Do they really expect Uncle Sap to save them again? Well, if I were French, I'd certainly be changing my tune as soon as possible to influence Uncle Sap. No sense in taking chances.

It's true that most people around the World are realizing that the Conservatives in most cases are their best chance for security. And the Liberals offer only defeatism and weakness---except where they rule through communism or hardcore dictatorship. When people wake up and become truly aware of the danger of Islam, they'll be electing Conservatives to protect them. We can only hope that the smaller countries of the World cast off the chains of socialism and awake to protection from strength and positive action of the Conservative movement before it's too late---no matter what the nationality involved.

[Certa Bonum Certamun = Fight the Good Fight]

Where's the liberal response?
Libs, here's your chace to score a debate point. Ann has listed the facts. Now where's the lib side of the story? A personal attack is not a debate point.

Again The Ignorance...
...of posters here is both palpable and frightening. A conservative is NOT replacing Blair, if anything the man replacing him is more left wing. I foresee the 'special relationship' becoming a little strained in time to come.

To vespanat
Wouldn't it have been better to post "why" Brown is not a conservative rather than engage in name calling. BTW, I did not consider Blair to be a conservative either. Bush is NOT a conservative.

I Didn't Call Anyone Names..
..just stated a fact that Ann Coulter and therefore people who read her seemed to think that Blair was going to be replaced by the leader of the Conservative Party which is simply not the case.
Blair as a, at one time at least, socialist would not call himself a conservative either I'm sure.
Brown is generally though of as being futher to the left than Blair on most issues and there is some debate, despite his proclomations to the contrary, that he wouldn't have been so eager to get involved in the Iraq debacle.
It is sad that most pundits here, with some notable exceptions of course, generally think Blair has been a good Prime Minister in many ways but his legacy will be remembered primarily for Iraq.

To vespanat
"Again The Ignorance of posters here is both palpable and frightening"

I guess technically it is not name calling, but it is not helpful.

As for Bush. I am sure that all the pundits will remember about him is Iraq. Just like all Nixon is remembered for is Watergate when he was actually the most liberal Republican ever elected.

The Democrats of the Caves of Waziristan
Dear Ann,

Brilliant article as always. The election in France is going to make the "Democrats in the Caves of Waziristan" very nervous. Their free reign in Europe is taking a turn. Even 14% of the communists in France voted for Sarkozy. Moet Champagne For Everyone!

Vic
The use of the term "ignorant" was not meant as an insult, it's just that I have read many statements on the pages, most of these are opinions about which one can debate if one disagrees. However I have often read statements that are presented as facts. In this case although incorrect, it wasn't too worrying. It's when I read statements such as those that say Mohammed is the most popular name in Britain that I do get worried as I think it only goes to fuel the, in my opinion at least, overly paranoid view that many in the States have of Islam.

To vespanat
The thing about Mohammed being the most popular name in Britain was promulgated by one of the news agencies. People were just repeating what they were told.

That Is The Worry....
...that one people hear things like this presented by political hacks with an agenda such as Ann Coulter or Michael Moore, they take it as fact. In the case of the Mohammed story a cursory glance past the headline showed that Mohammed was no where near the most popular name which considering Muslims make up approximately 3% of the UK population and most Muslim boys are called Mohammed is patently obvious.
Believe me were it to be true I would not be too happy either.
It does genuinely scare me when I read some the vitriol on these pages directed at the Muslim religion as a whole, yes there are a significant number of firebrand radicals and we are certainly having some problems in the UK but to brand all followers of a religion as evil terrorists doesn't do anyone any good and will hardly aid ny attempts at assimilation.
Having said all this i do enjoy Ann Coulters missives more than most, I rarely agree with a lot of what she says but she is certainly an entertaining and provocative writer.

vespanat
I posted that article on my blog and it was spot on. Indeed, it was a BBC report. It was NOT the #1 name and I erred there (mea culpa) but the point I made was well-met. Mohammed is heading to #1 on the charts with a bullet (so to speak) as your Islamic population out breeds you.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4148335.stm

Lyn
That is the norm with the leftist droolers. Ann smacks them around like the little bedwetters they are and they can only retort with ad hominem attacks. Typical. I'm sure Ann is laughing all of the way to bank cashing in on their stupidity!

Gunny G, My Old Chum...
....I don't wish to cast aspersions on anyones virility but I fail to see how a mere 3% of the UK population will be able to produce the highest number of children of any ethnic group in the country. I'm no gynacologist but I don't think it can be done!!!
Believe me, given our birthrates in other sectors of society Muslims will never even approach being a majority in this country.
On another note I seem to rememeber you brought up the subject of peoples cars being impounded for them talking on mobile phones, I did some research and it seems you were right that a pilot scheme was being operated in London. Not sure if it is still in operation there, but I concede you were right.

vespanat
Thanks for the nod on the cars. Rest assured amigo, I NEVER post anything w/o verification and a link. I may misread from time to time but I'm always careful of my sources, unlike the MSM, Dan Blather, scAir America, etc.

As far as Muslims breeding, I submit that while Europeans and to a growing extent, Americans, are having 2 children, Muslims are having families double or triple that. Beleive me, I've lived and worked in ME and they crank out kids like clockwork.

Lastly, I/we do NOT take pleasure in pointing out where Britain has stumbled although I am more critical from time-to-time than others. Why? Because the Brits are LETTING this stuff happen w/o doing a darn thing. Seeing y'all sliding down ain't a GOOD THING in my eyes. After all, we've stood together since we spanked you in 1812! haha.

Gunny G
Your concern is noted and appreciated I do feel that you are worrying about our well being unduly but time will tell.
From my own experience Muslims who I have met socially and through work have been decent people. As I stated previously there are radicals who sadly will no doubt carry out further atrocities. I do not think that stigmatising an entire community is the way to deal with this.
This week we saw two of the most bitter adversaries in UK history, Ian Paisley and Martin McGuninnes, joking together, a sight I never thought I would see. A mere fifteen or so years ago we were suffering terrorist atrocities by the IRA in this country on a regular basis. Many in those days advocated strong arm tactics in dealing with that problem. Had we done so I doubt the reconciliation we see today in Northern Ireland would have been possible. I know the two situations are different it does give one a glimmer of hope for the future.

jessicalange:

Thanks, for clearing up Massachusetts Liberal’s use of “Andy.” Apparently, I’m too far removed from this sort of sophomoric grade school level name-calling to have made the connection. More likely, it’s because; it’s just plain stupid.

If you can’t debate content you may as well, name-call, discuss Ann’s physical attributes, and go figure, use a metaphor for intestinal fortitude as her ethos. Gee, I’m sure she’s smarting, for that characterization – “ A set of brass balls.” Most conservatives wish our elected officials would grow a pair and had half the courage Ann displays.

Oh, and recognizing positive change is not “flipfloppery.” It is simply recognizing positive change. Despite our displeasure with France, I believe that secretly many conservatives have been looking for an opportunity to praise them. Perhaps in part due to our romanticized notions but more likely because they were in fact, our first wartime ally. Vive La France!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All:
Regardless of the croissant’s origin I’m going to make a point of enjoying one when our family gathers for brunch this Mother’s Day.
Another great Coulter article.
Europe is realizing that it better wakeup or they will become Eurabia. As Tryor points out the MSM has totally ignored this movement. Europe is moving in the right direction. We better get on board and stop illegal imigration. The riots and protests are going on here now as the illegal aliens demand we surrender our country. Unfortunately Bush and most of the presidential hopefulls continue to pander for the so called hispanic vote. Bush gets an F in imigration and continues to lie.
Croissants redeux (bigmick)
Well, there was no connection between the croissant and the Crusades like Ann said (she may have been joking anyway, that's the way I took it). Europe didn't even win the Crusades, they took Jerusalem and then got booted out again, by Saladin. If they were made to commemorate any military victory over Islam by Christendom, then it must have been the Battle of Tours.
And Ann is cute even though she's way older than I am. When I read her books I keep taking intervals to glance at the cover for like, 5 seconds, hahahahaha. =D
Also, if Liberal girls are going to call her ugly then they should post like, a link to a picture of themself, to dispel any thoughts of hypocracy people might have... =P
BTW - Croissants are best when you cut them open a little, put chocalate chips inside (not too much, or else it wont work), and nuke it in the microwave for like 10 seconds.
Christian Ann
Hey Ann, before you bash Islam, are YOU christian?
Huh?
What church do you attend?
Do you TITHE? (Ann makes good money and must hand over 10% to her Pastor. That gawd's LAW).
And Ann, pray tell, what does your Pastor say about christian gals wearing revealing little black dresses? Low cut neck. Flashin' their long legs beneath those minis. Gawd's good 'n mad. But for Vince, it's eye candy. Bring on those legs.
Great Job
Enjoyed it. France, like the US. is split down the middle. Maybe this is a good omen for 08.
Wrong again, Ann
Coulter's historical ignorance is on display again. John Howard is far from "Australia's longest serving Prime Minister", he's only been in the job about 10 years.
Australia's longest serving PM was the formidable conservative Sir Robert Gordon Menzies, who served a total of 18 1/2 years between 1939-41 and again from 1949-1966 - to the despair of the progressive parties of his era.
I love Ann
I love when people get so heated about Ann- you know she loves it too and it drives her. I can disagree with her so often but she is always fun, and I need a good woman like that.
And Ann is not ugly! She is in her 40s, I in my mid 20s, and admittedly/pathetically/pervertedly, I have sent her emails asking her out.
(Hanging head in shame because I have to ask out someone who has never seen me and doesnt know I exist. Well, I guess me and about 50000 other guys. I'll be in therapy if you need me.)
Ann is NOT ugly
And Ann is not ugly! She is in her 40s, I in my mid 20s, and admittedly/pathetically/pervertedly, I have sent her emails asking her out.
Who said Ann was ugly?? My friends and I have always complimented him as a very handsome middle-aged man.
I hope you're right
I think the facts back you up Ann. Its been something we've been watching for a while- what type of leaders do the other democracies around the world elect. I think in many ways, its because France, Germany, even Britain are experiencing more concerntrated doses of Islamic facism then those of us living in the USA. Sure, we have to put up with CAIR but we don't have "youths" rioting in the street nor do the muslims have a significant voting block, except in Michigan.
In France, the "youths" are burning things. In Germany, the "youths" are desecrating graves. In Britian... well in Britain, the "youths" are conducting terrorist activities.
Meanwhile, Harry Reid declares the war lost. What kind of world do we live in where FRANCE steps up while the US surrenders. Whatever world it is, I'd like to trade it for a world with a backbone.
pretty liberal coulmnists?
Who do Liberals have for pretty columnists anyways? Al Franken?
On Congressional Approval Ratings
Just a quick point:
The approval ratings for Congress don't matter.
Nobody likes Congress, but they always like their own congress-critter.
Put it this way -- nobody, but NObody votes for "Congress". What people vote for is their own senator and/or representative. People don't like Congress, but they DO like their own senator and/or representative.
It's only "pork" when it goes to somebody else's district.
Unca Alby
Not me. I can't stand any of mine. For example, John Cornyn who proposed legislation to build schools and roads in FRIGGIN' MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!! People found out about it and raised enough hell that it was stopped. His legislation by the way, came straight out of the Council on Foreign Relations' plan, "Building a North American Community".
no more republicans
To: no more republicans
Hang in there, you will get out of third grade
yet.
Is there any real difference at all...
between the terrorist towel heads bent on their murderous, facist agenda and the party of the Seditious & Sleazy (a.k.a. Democrats) and their collective inability to come to grips with reality?
Vince Apparently speaks from ignorance.
I am a Christian.
I attend a Baptist Church.
I do you TITHE. Not because of Gods law, but because everything I have is given by God, I am only the steward of what that which he entrusts me. It does not go to the Pastor as you claim but to the Church for the Pastor and Elders to use to support the work of the Church, that includes financial support of the Pastor, but also to finance the Church Missions. That includes, both evangelical and charitable missions.
As for the "little black dresses"... unlike Islam, while the Christian faith frowns on provocation, we do not murder the person that commits the offense, we forgive their actions. In any case, if a woman dresses revealingly, the reaction of the man to her state of dress is his folly not hers, her sin would be immodesty. But like the socialistic mindset, the islamic system, blames others for the sin, anyone but the sinner. Christianity, like conservatism beleives in individual responsibility. Not passing the buck.
To DS
Over 80% of the normal TH people can not stand liberal trolls coming on here. So why don't you stay away.
Vic
LOL. Any comment about the content of my post?? What does TH stand for?? TerroristHall??
So much for Sarkozy...
Headline: Sarkozy to Name Socialist as Foreign Minister
Looks like a typical conservative trying to appease the left... Now I have to cancel that trip to Paris
Off topic, but
Ann: What the hell did you see in Bill Maher!? I don't think dating liberals does well for your fire-throwing conservative persony. :)
DS
TH can stand for anything you want it to be.
I would suggest getting a life and find another way to engage in literary masterbation. You seem to get your jollies off making inane and sarcastic remarks to posters who have absolutely no interest in what you have to post.
No one cares what you think of Ann Coulter. She is not writing for you anyway. She has a fan base that has been developed by people who like what she has to say and how she says it. She doesn't care what YOU think of it.
You are only taking up space from other TH posters who would like to have a discussion regarding the article.
I am glad to hear you will not be around for another 4 or 5 years.
Good riddance. No one will miss you.
Is it...
...Vive La France or Vivre La France? I had two years of French in high school, but over twenty years of English only since then. Help anyone?
Help for Sonny
"literary masterbation"
Spell it masturbation.
Remember Norman Bates? When he was a kid they called him Master Bates. At least that's what I heard from the guy who cleans the shower.
Wrong topic, swindles her readers
Nothing new here, Ann Coulter again ignores the enormous issues in American politics at the moment. In case you're all missing it, the DOJ continues to unravel as Gonzales' number two resigns in disgust, Dick Cheney is still not suing Wayne Madsen for a thrice-confirmed report he allegedly used cheap DC hookers since the 90s, Dr. Rice is ignoring a pre-war intel subpoena as it's been revealed she oversaw Chevron's million$ in kickbacks to Saddam, but George Tenet is cooperating with Senator Waxman, telling the whole world how Bush said Iraq had WMD weapons publicly while he was shrieking "Is that all we got?" in private.
Wouldn't the Iraqi Parliaments' majority petition for a US troops pullout be more worthy of political commentary then the French election? Not if you're ducking the issues. What about the announcement coming from the IAEA, breaking their usual media neutrality to counter false claims that weapons inspectors have been prohibited from inspecting Iranian sites. This sets back any (substantiated) argument that Iran is seeking weaponized nukes, though it didn't stop Cheney from threatening Iran just the same. This allowed mad hatter Ahmadinejhad to seize the opportunity to lead chants of "Down with U.S" after exposing the false reports. It's reassuring to know that Ahmadinejhad is becoming less and less popular in Iran, just like Cheney. Despite both these fools trying to derail talks, the people move forward - overdue US/Iran talks have been scheduled in Baghdad.
Enough about Ann's choice of topics for this week, let's look at her substance and structure. For all you media manipulation watchers, here she does the-anecdote-as-pattern switcheroo, trying to make it sound like France's election means an improvement of Bush's popularity in France. Researching this idea, I've found two surveys conducted, one in late 2004 of France as well as Canada, Mexico, Spain, The UK, Australia, Japan, and South Korea found humiliating disapproval rates for Bush, ranging from 15-20%. Don't worry, only his popularity in the US really matters (and that sank to it's lowest point according to a poll announced last week after he vetoed the latest voter-mandated get-out-of-Iraq war bill, prompting Republicans to tell him bluntly his unending war was costing the party seats).
One might even say France has turned around it's dislike of the US because Bush is on the way out, is weakened and the US has been heading in a new direction. In the absence of polling, I could say anything - and so can Ann Coulter. We do know Sarkozy is sensitive to being called Bush's poodle. He says he opposes the Iraq war, he says he wants French troops out of Afghanistan and says "the messianic Americans grow tiresome". Sarkozy also says "President Bush is at odds with reality when it comes to global warming." I wonder what issues are left for Sarkozy to admire Bush on? Methinks he wants to get "in" on some of the record US debt Bush has led us into, becoming the greatest debtor nation in the world today. Don't forget to tell your grandchildren which president saw America's savings go into the negative for the first time in our history.
With her main point in doubt, you wonder where Ann Coulter gets the back up for her comment that voters all over the world are turning out liberals? One example is all we get for that generality. Then she reaches into her "liberals of yesteryear" grab bag to make sure her fans get their weekly foment of hate, though she fails to make a salient connection to the topic when she mistakenly refers to Jimmy Carter "ditching" the Shah of Iran - after he lost the Iranian population by sending the Shah to the Mayo clinic for healthcare. What she really means is that we refused to continue to prop him up as an artificial puppet dictator, our replacement for the democratically twice-elected secular leader Mohammad Mossadegh who fought for control of Iranian oil for his people. Ann Coulter should never have opened this pandoras box - as I now get to correct her revisionist history:
Indeed Mossadegh was a principled, educated leader, wresting control of Iran's oil back from the British despite harsh economic sanctions. To break the stalemate, the British invited the US in on a scheme to depose him and Alan Dulles cooked up a CIA plot that combined the usual propaganda with illegal funding of proxy rebels. We paid impostors to threaten people in his name and made his government unpopular with the Iranian people, especially when people started turning up tortured and dead. By 1953 he was out and the Shah was in, but it was this illegal, immoral imperialist US/UK greed and the brutal secret police supported by them that fueled the popular revolt in 1979 (the U.S. government officially apologized for the 1953 coup in 2000), allowing religiosos to reclaim control of their country and taking 52 Americans embassy workers hostage for over a year.
Any modern history of Iran must be seen as a tragic case of failed US policy.
But back to Ann Coulter's original topic. I hope that US perception around the world will improve too. But it's impossible to discuss how we got so unpopular without looking at our dumb reaction to 9/11, making enemies out of allies.
I heard a Somali reporter scoff yesterday when US officials claimed the Islamic Courts shouldn't police Mogadishu because they are too sucseptible to infiltration by al Qaeda. Nevermind that they were effective and popular and that Ethiopian troops have failed to maintain security and are itching to leave. The reporter said the US will claim that anywhere anytime - just like we did to invade Iraq, turning out to be wrong with no explanation. Our career intel gatherers knew at the time there was no al Qaeda in Iraq when we invaded. Today, al Qaeda is everywhere - from Fort Dix, NJ to Baghdad, to Pakistan, to the hundreds caged in Gitmo - all taking orders from Osama bin Laden. The only thing missing is any proof of same, but test marketers sure do see Fox News viewers get their hackles up when we say that! When pressed for concrete ties to "the original al Qaeda that did 9/11" (for example in today's briefing re attacks in Mesopotamia) US officials stammer "well, al Qaeda, or an affiliated group".
Structure wise: I'll give Ann credit for getting in a few of her trademark quips, trying to make it seem funny that Sarkozy called people "scum" and still got elected. She always says leaders should do more name-calling to make the real world more contentious like hers, But her posts seem to be getting shorter, and her thoughts are more disparate like Larry King's old column, random thoughts strung together and few real paragraphs. Getting more like a stand up act except for the humor.
On substance: Oh, the holes to be poked through Ann Coulter's arguments. Didn't her column just last week assert the Europeans "hate our guts"? But like Bush, trying to attach himself to a winner, she'll attach her spin to Sarkozy as an endorsement for right-wing ideology if her readers let her get away with it. Nevermind Blair was ruined because of Bush, Olmert is facing his ouster for the Lebanon conflict, greenlighted on by the White House. But let's entertain Ann's musings as we see the research:
Sarkozy has made it clear that he is a protectionist, will not allow foreign investment or acquistion, will not allow cheaply made goods into France, will leave taxes relatively high compared to neighbors, claiming he will compete by encouraging other EU states to raise theirs. His choice for foreign minister? A very publicly anti-American socialist.
As we see the British, Dubai and multinationals doing, France could just be trying to reposition themselves to get some of that juicy privatized-military money the US is paying all kinds of contractors to do the dirty work in our ground wars. Why should we do all our borrowing from China, Japan and the Saudis? Sarkozy wants in!
But most importantly, lets check that current poll of the French to see if Ann Coulter's point this week holds water or is just another mailed-in rumination looking for pro-right wing mentions in the news. Survey says:
Bush's current approval rating with the French is six percent.
Oh, nevermind. See you next week!
You wrote: "The ideology that the United States was founded, and exists to this day, on is something that liberals, BY DEFINITION, are hostile to."
How can you even type this crap without dry heaving? Yeesh.
Some of you folks need to step away from the Townhall screen a few times a day, just to realize that the real world does not hate "liberalism" as much as Michael Medved and Ann Coulter do. The real world, in fact, thinks Ann Coulter belongs in a straight jacket.
Sarkozy won by next ta nothin. And thanks, WWJD, for pointing out that Bush's approval rating in France is 6%. So much for the Dems Bush-hating platform going down the tubes. Hate on!
I love it when liberal
loons atack Ann on her looks or Faith. That is apparently all they are capable of, facts and logic(never mind humor) are not their strong suit.
As to what her pastor would say about her style of dress, I too am a size 6, 46 year old woman with long beautiful brown hair and am known for my occasional little black mini dress.
My husband, the Pastor, says I look great.
Don't break out the Perrier yet
It's great that the French people elected an individual that appears to be in favor of better relations with the US, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking this election is a panacea. Let's wait and see how Sarkozy performs on the job, and then assess the change between the dark years of Chirac and the yet unknown times of Sarkozy.
