Who knew Congressman Foley was a closeted Democrat?

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

  • Boy Scouts: As gay as you want to be.

  • Priests: No gays!

  • Democratic politicians: Proud gay Americans.

  • Republican politicians: Presumed guilty.

  • White House press corps: No gays, unless they hate Bush.

  • Active-duty U.S. military: As gay as possible.

  • Men who date Liza Minelli: Do I have to draw you a picture, Miss Thing?

This is the very definition of political opportunism. If Republicans had decided to spy on Foley for sending overly friendly e-mails to pages, Democrats would have been screaming about a Republican witch-hunt against gays. But if they don't, they're enabling a sexual predator.

Talk to us Monday. Either we'll be furious that Republicans violated the man's civil rights, or we'll be furious that they didn't.

Coulter and the Dems should shut up
About this topic, I've already said elsewhere that all this whining about Foley is just noise.

As anyone who has read my previous posts on other subjects knows I am a liberal, but I don't care what either the dems or the republicans say. Everone should just shut up about Foley unless they have something new to say.

There are plenty of more important issues. Foley has already resigned. If the people in Fort Worth Fl want to vote for him again they can in a few weeks. If not he will not be back in Washington to kick around any more.

If the pages or parents of a page have some actual crime they want to charge Foley with they can come forward and file charges with an appropriate court. Otherwise, all I know that he is guilty of is sending stupid, disgusting chat messages and emails to underage pages. If that is a crime, no one - not Pelosi, not Haster - seems to be taking it seriously enough to prosecute it.

But of course the politicians will not shut up until after the election, since both sides seem to think they will get some boost from it.

After the election, though, lets hope both sides beleive there are more important issues to fill newspapers, talk shows, and blogs about.

    Gramscian methodology
ABC breaking the story about Foley emailing and text-messaging a page in an over-friendly manner imbued with sexual overtones seems to be a tactic taken from the Gramscian Marxist playbook. This story, fueled by the media moral outrage about Foley and the drumbeat to find a cover-up by the House Republican leadership, is an attempt to use middle America's sexual conservatism against it and convince conservatives to stay home in November.

I'm sure Antonio Gramsci, and his disciple Betty Friedan, wherever they are, are getting some small amount of satisfaction from this current event. We've gone from "everybody lies about sex" and "France doesn't think this is a problem" to "we must protect the children!" What a bunch of phonies.
