Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama flatly promised to raise taxes in a television interview Thursday afternoon.

“I will raise CEO taxes,” Obama told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”

“If you’re a CEO in this country you’ll probably pay more taxes,” Obama said. Obama speculated his CEO tax rates “won’t be prohibitively high, you’ll pay roughly what you did in the 90’s when they were doing fine.”

Obama also said he would eliminate the Bush tax cuts and install what he called a “middle class tax cut.”

Blitzer asked Obama to define “middle class.”

Obama replied, “You know, I think the definitions are always a little bit rough” and said “if you’re making $100,000 a year or less, then you’re pretty solidly middle class…On the other hand, if you’re making more than $100,000 and certainly if you’re making more than $200,000 or $250,000, you’re doing pretty well.”

The CNN interview was the first one Obama has held since Tuesday’s primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. In it, the Illinois senator also discussed his judicial philosophy. Obama, who has delivered constitutional lectures at University of Chicago Law School, said he thought Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “a very sensible judge.” He also hinted he would place special emphasis on civil rights protections when appointing Supreme Court judges if elected President.

“We’ve got to make sure civil liberties are protected,” Obama said. “Because oftentimes there are pressures placed on politicians to want to set civil liberties aside, especially at a time when we’ve had terrorist attacks. Making sure we maintain our separation of powers so that we don’t have a president who is takes over more and more power, I think those are all criteria by which I’d judge whether or not this is a good appointee.”

Two proof positives
You know there are two proof positives in this election. Obama will raise taxes and McCain will sell you out on immigration reform. Take your pick!

Re: Maximus
Actually, I'd rather go for McCain because the immigration thing is easier to undo than taxes. Getting money out of the hands of government is impossible absorbing 20 million invaders is a really big pain but doable.

One other point.
The last president that talked about raising taxes only on the super-wealthy CEO's raised taxes on me because I guess at 33k per year I was considered super wealthy. Sorry but when it comes to democrats and taxes it's like dealing with any addict only these jerks are addicted to reaching into my wallet.

Nice difference
Obama is at least honestly telling us what he's going to do, although he must not remember how well Mondale did when he made that same tax pledge.

We now can make honest comparisons and distinctions: McCain likes Roberts and Obama likes Ruth Bader. How about that for a Centrist Uniter? Nothing centrist about that! We can count on 2-3 more Ruth Baders if Obama wins the presidency. I wonder what disaffected Republicans think about that?

Higher taxes not just for CEO's
Obama wants to roll-back Bush tax cuts.

Obama wants to raise the Payroll tax on all Americans earning over $95,000.

Obama wants to raise taxes on Corporations.

But who is suprised? Socialist and Marxists have ALWAYS held the view: Take from those who have - give to those who need.

With the Click of a Mouse...

Wealthy Americans (liberals as well) will send a trillion dollars overseas the very minute Obama places his hand over the Koran on Inauguration Day. The "Rich" will not have their taxes hiked, period.

That Giant Flushing Sound you hear, will be America's economy swirling down the toilet.

Remember, "An employer deserves the employee he hires".

Successful campaigns ......
Yeah - run on that platform,Barack, of raising taxes.

It worked so well for Walter Mondale in 1984 (Reagan won by a landslide).

It also worked well for Dukakis in '88 saying the same thing (Bush Sr won handily).

The reason Bush (41) lost in 1990 was because he said previously said "read my lips - no new taxes" and then failed to keep his word.

But you keep pushing that tax-increase agenda!!

you are lying...
I saw that interview and it made sense. We can't continue George Bush's spending without accountability and not find a way to get out of debt. Bill Clinton balanced the budget with the same tax views as Obama and the country was in a much better economic place during the '90's.

Also, for all you "God and Country" folks, taxing the super rich and helping the poor is actually Biblical policy...

Other people's (and his own)
I know THers will love to characterize this as Obama taking money out of others' wallets. In fact, Obama is restoring the tax rates on his own tax bracket.

Markie Mark - crack a Bible open, dude
You wrote, "Also, for all you "God and Country" folks, taxing the super rich and helping the poor is actually Biblical policy..."

WRONG!

The CHURCH was called upon to help the poor. Christ said (paraphrasing) render unto Cesar that which is Cesar's and give unto God that which is his.

Never does the Bible advocate government taxation policy... but uneducated liberals just love to suggest it.

Christ called his followers (individually) to love their neighbor - to help those in need. My spirituality doesn't need any help from Obama's tax policies.

The tax issue has faded
From David Frum's column:

"The country has changed since 1988. Polls capture a shift to the left on economic issues. The once decisive tax issue has faded altogether, and no wonder: 80 per cent of Americans now pay more in payroll taxes than in federal income taxes.
"Americans care less about taxes than healthcare and fuel prices, issues where Republicans offer few solutions and speak with something less than passionate urgency. Americans are expressing a new pessimism about upward mobility and their children’s chances of leading a better life – an understandable reaction to the stagnation of median wages since 2000."

http://tinyurl.com/5goqo9

Duh, He's a Democrat
No-Brainer. I didn't even need to hear him say it or read it anywhere.

If not taxes... what about dead babies?
Aside from promising to raise our taxes - Obama received the highest rating from Planned Parenthood.

Specifically, as a State Lawmaker, Obama voted AGAINST the bill which would provide aid to half-aborted fetus (babies) that survived the procedure.

Obama's explained, "It would essentially bar abortions because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this was a child then this would be an anti-abortion statute."

He was worried if we helped the life of the child surviving abortion - it might hurt the abortion-right advocates' cause.

How noble.

Jon
That's right, the government should enforce school prayer, display religious symbols, enforce the protection of life (as defined exclusively by conservatives), and enforce biblical standards in the bedroom. But no scriptural considerations should be taken into consideration when making budget decisions.

Markie & King Liberal
It is a simple economic principle that when government taxes more, the economy shrinks. Less taxes (at any level)grows the economy. Liberals don't seem to understand this. Check out Ireland and Singapore's flourishing economies. By the way...why would you punish the corporations and other entities that create jobs? How about cutting useless agencies and bureaucracy to save money?

When will they learn
Tax cuts have been proven to increase the revenue every time. EVERY TIME. When will they ever learn.

You know, I really don't think he cares, Tax slavery is just another method of liberal facism to maintain control of the populace.

Everyone gets a tax increase
Everyone will automatically receive a tax increase just by having the tax cuts repealed.

Employers will hire fewer employees because of the highter taxes being paid and our economy will be in the tank.

If a CEO has spent years developing new product and building a company and has taken a small salary until the business grows he has risked income he could have gotten in the private sector. Then when he can finally take $200,000 a year he is deamed "rich" and penalized for taking the risk. Why should anyone do that only to have it taken from him by Obama. Why try to build a company that creates jobs for others? $200 - $250K a year is not a lot when you live in california nor is there a lot remaining after paying taxes under the existing rates.

markiemark - what a moron!
markiemark writes: Thursday, May, 08, 2008 6:17 PM
you are lying...

"Clinton balanced the budget with the same tax views as Obama and the country was in a much better economic place during the '90's.
"

There it is again, a liberal giving Clinton credit for balancing the Budget when we all know it was the Contract with America and the republican congress that balanced the budget. Clinton wanted to increase taxes yet again but we blocked him. Clinton's peactime economy was not thanks to him. FYI 7500 soldiers died under Clinton.

Again, Cutting taxes has proven to increase the federal revenues every time. When more people have more money in their own pockets they tend to donate more to charaties.

markiemark is an idiot to the nth degree.

Robert and Cam
You both suggesting the "far-right" imposing school prayer, protection of life, etc on the government.

ACTUALLY guys - it's the role of the Government to protect: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Government should NOT be PREVENTING individual choice: school prayer, religious displays, etc.

Had either of you geniuses cracked a book or listened in 4th grade civics you would have learned the great passion our Founding Fathers put into protecting individual civil liberties - including religion.

You cry about school prayer. It's ok Congress (House & Senate), US Supreme Court, etc opens their day with an open prayer...but God-forbid 6 year olds be given an alotted time to pray. OH the damage being done when a prayer is offered before a high-school football game!!

You're all about protecting life (abolish death penalty)... unless it's an "inconvenient" life (unborn child). WHO protects the child's life??

Liberals use the Government to RESTRICT religious freedoms and to turn a blind eye to the most innocent of lives.

But yall go ahead and give old Obama a rah-rah.

Government can do better
We would have a lot more money in the treasury if we would tighten up and eliminate the welfare fraud as well as overspending on everything the government buys.

Furthermore, a lot of government workers wouldn't make it in the private sector because they are not as productive and with the unions,it's hard to fire the slackers.

We could reduce the government payroll by a third if they hired more productive people.

you're wrong Slobber
Not even Arthur Laffer subscribes to the "tax cuts increase revenue" myth any more. See this link:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1692027,00 .html

Unfortunately, John McCain still does.

markiemark
I must be misled. I thought congress had something to do with spending. However, future presidents shouldn't be allowed to conduct the wars even if they are commander-in-chief. Let the warriors do it. The most anti-war people are actually military members. We should've rubbled Iraq instead of trying to find the needle (insurgent) in the haystack (Iraqi population). But now we throw $millions into the middle eastern fire.

I just LLOOVVEE politicians wanting to raise tax rates just when the inflation snowball gets rolling.

How about this: Bring back manufacturing to the USA. USA workers get the paychecks (not the Chinese, etc) income tax is withheld, social security contributions made, they spend the paychecks and sales tax is collected. Economic cynergy from within! Build a few modern refineries, tap American oil for national consumption, prohibit export of it, and watch the global demand start reducing if American origin money is not sent to foreign workers!

Of course, if I was as smart as I think I am, I'd be one of those billionaires instead of the average middle income people getting ready for the financial sexual assault from a democratic whitehouse and congress.

Amanda
Have you been to the store of late? The price of everything is going up.The next president, will have TWO choices;raise taxes or allow inflation to wash through the economy. In that we have far fewer "CEO'S"than regular people, the pain will be limited.I believe higher taxes will be good.It will allow the economy to seek a level of safety slowly.I could explain the real advantages. But I won't...

Jon
The government has never infringed on my ability to practice my faith. I can pray and display religious symbols in my home or at my church any time I want to. Using the government as a platform for witnessing is actually couner-productive.

The problem with this obsession with school prayer, nativity scenes, and gay rights is that it's all symbolic. (Abortion is different.) In the meantime, there is massive suffering in our country because our education, political, and health care systems are rigged in favor of the wealthy. No serious help can be given to the poor without correcting this. Christ characterized this as straining out a gnat while swallowing a camel.

Killer
Go ahead and tell us why taxes are good. I'm very interested to see why people enjoy the government wasting their money.

Obama for "Change'??
This guy will leave us with Chump Change!

So he wants to raise the tax rate to CEO's who earn over a specific amt of $?

What about all of those liberal Hollywood friends of his who also earn vast salaries; what about professional football and basketball players? Surely they fit into the class & income warfare this post-racial candidate seeks to exploite.

Funny thing, though. He seems to have ZERO idea about how our economy actually works. Moreover, he uses racial distrust, and financial envy as tools to divide & otherwise foster distrust & disunity among our people.

Sounds like a typical democrat to me.

how does raising
taxes help to reduce higher prices????? Let's use some common sense. If I'm McDonald's, and my taxes get raised, I will raise the price of a Big Mac to compensate. That should be pretty simple for anyone to understand. Perhaps liberals would like for gov't to cap what McDonald's can charge for a Big Mac as well?

Cam...beyond faith issues
We can agree to disagree about Government's role in affecting the practice of faith for individuals (including students).

You stated, "In the meantime, there is massive suffering in our country because our education, political, and health care systems are rigged in favor of the wealthy."

Massive Suffering?? People are dying in epidemic proportions? Large demographic groups are starving? Kids no longer have access to schools or hospitals?

(Que the Michael Moore "documentary")

And the solution to all these problems is... More Taxes & Bigger Government!! Riiiight.

(Que 1930 films of the Stalin Revolution)

We can't rely on charity... no we must take from the EVIL corporations and the wealthy that "rigged" it against all us poor victims.

uh huh.

Oil Companies Pay Well...

Hard work, Good pay and benefits. So why isn't there a single Democrat proposing more oil drilling?

More drilling rigs = more American jobs.

More American jobs = more tax revenue.

More American Oil = more independence from OPEC.

More Independence = lower trade deficits.

Lower trade deficits = more American buying power.

Now, why can't an economics Professor figure this out?

THE MESSIAH RETURNS
AFTER A SHORT SABBATICAL FROM POLICY PROCLAMATIONS!

HE DECREES WHO ARE "RICH", WHO "MUST GIVE" AND WHO "MUST RECEIVE". NEVERMIND THAT STOCKHOLDERS WILL TAKE CARE OF CEO'S,NORTHEAST AND WESTERN STATES COST OF LIVING MAKES THOSE POPULATIONS FAR FROM RICH AT "HIS" ASSIGNED LEVELS OF INCOME.

MOST OF THE POPULATION HAVE 401KS AND RETIREMENT PLANS DEPENDANT ON GOOD RETURNS FROM THE VERY COMPANIES HE IS "GOING AFTER" WITH TAXES AND THE REST OF US WITH CAPITOL GAINS TAX INCREASES.

TRUTH BE TOLD--HIS OBJECTIVE IS "POWER" OVER MANY WHO WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GO WITHOUT "HIS" BENEVOLENT GIFTS FROM THE REST OF US.

HE WILL BE "SUBJECT" TO MANY--THEY WILL MAKE HIM KEEP HIS WORD. HE IS TOO WEAK TO SAY NO.

CLASS WARFARE AND A WELFARE COUNTRY LIKE WE HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE ARE LURKING IN THE "MIST" SURROUNDING HIS RETURN TO US!

I THINK I AM ABOUT TO "FAINT"----SOMEONE PLEASE PROTECT MY WALLET.

markiemark
... has no idea about taxes, spending & Bill Clinton's budget.

Just for the record, ALL spending bills emanate from the House of Representatives. The House was won by the GOP when Billy-Boy was in office. Therefore it was Republicans who held Clinton to the line.

Has anyone ever noticed that the only time we are inundated with hand-wringing over budgets, spending & taxes is when Republicans act like Democrats? Then everything is absolutely horrid! Let the Democrats keep raising the debt ceiling, raise taxes and slap earmarks on unrelated bills, clog us with 'entitlements', cripple our industrial base, deny us the ability to become energy-independent in the name of their bogus alarms of global warming--oh, that is simply being responsible.

Responsible for a democrat, perhaps. They accept any type of reprehensible immorality from those whom they elect. We deny the nomination to our cretins. They not only reelect, they stand and cheer in stead of sending their perverts packing off to prison.

The intellectually dishonest among us are democrats. Their probable candidate for the presidency says he taught constitutional law, yet he would appoint justices to the US Supreme Court who would decide cases based upon ensuring that the weak would prevail over the strong!

WHAT? Has he never heard about STATUTES?

Idiots fall for this drivel, who are ever so useful to those who would overthrow our government. Chumps who would change us into just another 3-rd world dust bowl. So much for 'change we can believe in.'

God help us if they win.

Smotpoker: I'LL tell you why taxes are
good. Conservatives always say that there is no free lunch, meaning, if you think you're getting a benefit without paying for it your are deceiving yourself. Somewhere along the way you're going to have to pay for the benefit. That's how capitalism and innovation work. If you're getting a benefit and not paying for it, a capitalist will notice and find someway to make you pay for it, even if he has to bribe congress to pass a bill just for him. There, we've settled the FIRST PRINCIPLE.

Now there's at least two types of benefits, those that are easily seen and those less visible, roughly equivalent to quantity and quality.

George Will makes a special point that before our capitalism and democracy can work - empahsis on BEFORE - we must have a system of laws, a financial and banking system, an educational system, an infrastructure that form the basis for capitalism and democracy. Fareed Zacaria makes the same point and points to a finding that the middle class of a country usually makes at least $6,000 a year BEFORE democracy can take hold in a country.

Our TAXES pay for those qualitative, invisible things. Conservatives make the point that just because you can't see God doesn't mean that HE doesn't exist. The same is true for the invisible things that knit our society, culture and country together. They're mostly invisible, especially to Americans who have never lived in a society in which greater antagonisms and distrust exist.

Obama's new pastor...OMG !
Well, this might pass with Democrats, but it will NOT fly with independants and republicans!

Maybe Obamba's church serves Peppermint Schnopps at communion instead of wine?

Moss also states in the sermon:

“Jesus has a soft spot for thugs.”

“God is always using thugs to do God’s work.”

“Everyone has a little bit of thug in them.”

"Noah was a “thug” who “was drinking much gin and juice and got drunk on the eve of reconstruction.”

Abraham “pimped his own wife.”

Jacob was a “hustler” who “stole his own brother’s birthright.”

Moses was a “thug” and “if he got mad would give you a royal beatdown.”

Sampson was a “thug” and a “player.”

David was a “thug,” a “shot caller,” and a “player,” and a man after God’s own heart.

“Jesus is on the cross being lynched between two thugs. The moment of execution, the moment of murder, Jesus, the son of God, is hanging out with thugs.”

Harrison Bergeron
THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

CT
"Perhaps liberals would like for gov't to cap what McDonald's can charge for a Big Mac as well?"

Assuming that McDonald's is allowed to sell Big Macs at all once the food police get after them, that's exactly right.

Gerrie: You must be a young person
For years Republicans preached about a balanced budget and how we were mortgaging our children, grandchildren to the national debt, which would diminish their quality of life. Republicans had a whole litany and narrative about how bad the welfare society was in unbalancing the budget. We heard it endlessly. That's why I know you are a younger person, because if you were my age you couldn't help but be aware of this standard - and it was STANDARD Republisanism - in the old days.

Republicans actutally CHANGED THEIR TUNE after they got in power with the Gnute revolution and now poo pooed their own former STANDARD REPUBLICAN RHETORIC.

Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth.

This is hilarious!
On another article, killer says we're not only in a recession, but darn near a depression. He says how horrible it is that the government does so much and controls our economy. And in the comments here, he says we should increase taxes. Killer, are you really trying to destroy the economy you know nothing about? You should look up the phrase "internally consistent" and see if you understand it.

How many poor smoke cigarettes? @$300/mo
i'd like to see a survey of all these so called "poor" who smoke cigarettes, that's $300 per month.

speaking as an Ex-smoker, i can assure you that when we are truly POOR: THE FIRST THING TO GO IS OUR CIGARETTES, you know why?

BECAUSE IT'S A $225-$300 PER MONTH HABIT, AND THAT'S JUST FOR 1-1.5 PACKS A DAY!

I always see the so called "poor" on TV and I wonder why THEY ARE ALL FAT?

If these people were truly poor and didn't have enough to eat, they would NOT be buying cigarettes (which is a luxury in financial terms); and they would be THIN.

I don't mind helping the truly poor and I DO, but I refuse to help others buy cigarettes and stuff their faces and then cry they need money.

Carlos
Don't you know? Oil companies are evil and greedy, and we have to protect the environment so that while we're biking to work now that gas is too expensive, we can enjoy a nice clear day. Democrats are just so much smarter than everyone else and if you would just relax, give in, and let them control everything, the world would be perfect.

It's fun trying to write like Loyal Democrat. I can see why he does it.

You heard it here first people
Right from the mouth of Proud Liberal: taxes pay for invisible things.

And he can't understand why we don't like paying them...it would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Liberal stupidity abounds
in many of these vacuous comments.

If liberals were actually concerned about education in this country they would support tuition tax credits, or vouchers, and encourage other alternative means of freeing families from the drivel that passes for 'education' in government schools.

Talk about enslavement!!! Little wonder, then that black 'liberation' theology of Moss, Wright, et al, abounds!

The people who should collect reparations are those parents who were hoodwinked into sending their children to government schools. The people who should pay for the reparations should be the teachers & their unions & the liberals who strangle alternatives to gov schools.

My candidate for 1st to be taxed is the unrepentant bomber, killer & college professor William Ayers.

Sailor: You're bit loose with your facts
You are right about differences in income in different parts of the country and between city and country, but that can all be adjusted, so no big worry.

About the 401k's and such: Just saw some figures today about what percentage of people had some retirement accounts beyond social security. I don't remember exactly, but there was still a sizable percentage of people who do not have retirement accounts.

You're a bit loose, as well, I think with the idea that most people work for companies that provide them accounts. Small business people have to provide them for themselves and people such as artists and crafts people, writers, consultants, etc. all have to provide for themselves or they don't have them.

By all means, uncouple such goodies from the work place. I predict that uncoupling health care and retirements from employers will result, after an appropriate amount of time for people to experience the consequences, IN CALLS FOR NATIONAL RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS FUNDED BY TAXES.

right is its own defense
It is sad that for you if you can't see it it doesn't exist.

gerrie
vouchers are dangerous

do you want taxpayer money going to islamic wahbii schools that teach hatred of america and death to Christians.

charter and alternative schools are fine but vouchers open a pandora's box and the one large experiment in milwaukee has shown no improvement between those children in voucher schools and those in non-voucher schools.

You are such a fraud, Gerrie
The term "government schools" is a shameful distortion of language to diminish the efforts and dreams of millions of Americans now dead and gone whose hard work and vision built the country of which you are now the arrogant beneficiary.

Have you no shame?

Proud Liberal
If I can't see it, I don't want to be taxed to pay for it. I'm silly that way.

There are none so blind...
"The next president, will have TWO choices; raise taxes or allow inflation to wash through the economy." So many seem to buy into this.

When your EXPENSES exceed your INCOME you need to REDUCE EXPENSES and/or INCREASE INCOME.

Raising taxes does not increase (government) income, and I haven't heard any serious talk (especially from the left) about reducing expenses.

Analogy: The US is like a family with excessive credit card debt. We spend more than we earn and make up the difference by borrowing. We owe three times our annual gross and can't even keep up with the interest. What would a good credit counselor tell this family? First and most important: start living within your means!

right is its own defense
You'd make a great citizen of a third world country.

Dear proudliberal--
Please allow me to amend my comment to the extent that CONSERVATIVE are the responsible members of Congress. Liberals are never responsible, right? Given that liberals are the spenders, I rest my case.

As usual, the LIBERALS are responsible for the spend, spend, spend mentality. In as much as there are few, if any, principled CONSERVATIVE democrats (a contradiction in terms, I am well aware) it must be (unprincipled) liberals who have wrought this mess.

I am young enough to know that if liberals win we will all pay a dear price for their folly. I am old enough to know that you have little understanding of what it means to be intellectually honest. Try it sometime. It might be a change of pace that you'd find intriging.

Proud Liberal
Paying taxes to pay for a judicial system, police force, and other legal institutions that are necessary is fine with me. I just thought it was funny that you called them invisible. Paying taxes to pay for your retirement, your health care, your education, and your housing are what I have a problem with. Taxing me and giving that money to people who don't work is immoral to me. Giving $600 to people who did not even work enough this year to owe federal income taxes, and not giving it to people because they made over $80,000 -- that's robbery to me.

PROUD LIBERAL ON THE PROWL

You speak of shame? How ironic, coming from a liberal!

Shame is the sham of 'public education' that has devolved into indoctrinaton encounters.

But perhaps I am too hard on you. Perhaps you are too old to know of the sad state of education ith this country.

Ignorance is never, ever, bliss, proudliberal. It stinks to high heaven.

In as much as ideas have consequences liberal ideas have bankrupt education.

Those to whom you refer who worked to establish public education in America would be horrified to learn of the fetid swamp liberals have turned it into. Now that is true shame!

Depends on what middle class is
So, Obama has come out for taxing those evil CEO's and declares a middle class tax cut while in the same breath he declares he will eliminate the Bush tax cuts.

Well, the Bush tax cuts were of greatest benefit to tax payers across the board but mostly benefited those of lower to middle class incomes. Are these the same lower to middle class earners that will now see their taxes increase under the Obama undo?

As for those who meet the arbitrary threshold of Sen. Obama's middle class, how will he defend his double taxation? He not only will repeal the Bush tax cuts but will raise the taxes on those he deems the "middle class."

This guy is a raving lunatic. A mentally disturbed public may well vote to allow the lunatic to run the asylum.

Back to the 90s
Obama wants to take the country (economically at least) back to the 90s .... the days of budget SURPLUS, the days when our family income (and the median income nationwide) was going up, not down, back when gas was usually below $1 a gallon (I still have receipts from 1998 showing gas was $0.68 per gallon), back when, OK, the top 10% of income earners paid higher taxes than they do now .... but the economy as a whole was booming and not tanking like it is now.

Works for me.

Sometimes I wonder
Are the liberal posters that regularly find their way to this forum to espouse the liberal talking points on someone's payroll? Curious minds want to know.

Dear religiouslib
I stand corrected. To involve tax dollars in direct support of public education is to invite non-western, anti-family, anti-traditional control. Which is somewhat of what we have now, come to think of it.

However, we need not invite it in.

Thanks for the correction.

My recipe for improving education? Young people don't get to drive until they are 25 years old, before then they are too immature. Nor do they get to drink, same reason. Nor do they get to watch TV, with all its sex and violence and stuff.

Study, study, study. What conservatives miss is that each one of us educates ourselves, our teachers never have educated us. They simply point the way, bring us back to center when we stray, urge logic upon us, answer questions, but THEY don't educate US. That's our job.

Education started going down hill with the advent of TV. That, you can lay on the plate of the capitalist liberals who invented and implemented TV.

Are all Democrat voters really that simple/single minded? Do they really believe Obama is going to *lower* gas prices by raising taxes?

Oil Companies Pay Well...

Hard work, Good pay and benefits. So why isn't there a single Democrat proposing more oil drilling?

More drilling rigs = more American jobs.
More American jobs = more tax revenue.
More American Oil = more independence from OPEC.
More Independence = lower trade deficits.
Lower trade deficits = more American buying power.

Now, why can't an economics Professor figure this out?

Don't you know? Oil companies are evil and greedy, and we have to protect the environment so that while we're biking to work now that gas is too expensive, we can enjoy a nice clear day. Democrats are just so much smarter than everyone else and if you would just relax, give in, and let them control everything, the world would be perfect.

It's fun trying to write like Loyal Democrat. I can see why he does it.//

The Chinese are drilling 12.1 miles off the southern coast of America for oil with at least 36 platforms. But we cannot due to the Democrats.

Really?
So the country's CEOs and mega millionaires, the captains of industry are just going to roll over and let some rookie pizz ant political flunky take their hard earned money?

These barracudas with their high priced lawyers, CPAs and lobbyists are going to say, "OK. Go ahead and take it, you win. I'll have all my people pack up their briefcases and go home. No need to fight it."

Silly people, especially you deluded socialists.

All this talk about taxing the rich and giving to the poor is for show. They say it every 4 years and two weeks after the election the suits jet into DC and bend those petty civil servants over their chairs and force them to accept tax code changes that always results in the moneyed interests escaping taxes so that the middle class foots the bill.

It's why the tax code has 26 volumes even after numerous "simplifications" and "revisions".

American companies no longer have to tolerate extortion from tax authorities who once had the power of confiscating tangible wealth for tax evaders. They can close their factories here, divest themselves of their tools of production which were at risk of seizure, move the facilities to some crotch of the globe third world country, and have their profits digitally deposited in off shore accounts.

I foresee these high rollers giving up their citizenship in favor of some more inviting nation and completely severing their ties with this nation of slaves and beggars, and so that the IRS has nothing to levy.

One day the US government may have to face an entire nation of Katrina citizens and say to them that the money tree is gone. There's no more free stuff. You're on your own.

That's when the real fun's going to start. We'll see what happens when the task master is gone and the gates to the plantation are left open. What will the slaves do then?

I have more fun comparing the monikers of those posting on this site and the comments they make. Is there a more perfect example of sheer idiocy than "Proud Liberal"? First off, for someone to even admit that, takes a tremendous amount of guts and a completely opposite amount of brains.

As usual, the discussion on these message boards always move away from the obvious points contained in the original article, which are usually very basic and easy for anyone of normal intelligence to understand.

I will try and state it so everyone, including PL can understand. "We don't like the government taking our money and deciding how it will be spent." End of story. If that's to hard for you to understand, I'm sorry. I can't reduce to a lower level .

Thanks for your post and the link to the article about Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ's new and "wonderful young pastor" ...according to that icon of sound judgement, Obama!

Nice to know that 'Black Liberation Theology' has modified it's message to include “ghetto prophets” like rapper Tupac Shakur and “thug theology,” ...

LOL ...this is just too good! I can't wait for this to hit the talk radio circuit!

By the way...this new "wonderful young pastor" also favorably compared Jeremiah Wright to Jesus!

How englightening
The point stands, the point of the comments section is to post comments on the article, not to wax impressive. That the points in an article are so "basic," should make it a no brainer to stay on subject.

proudliberal's prescription...
to remedy faults in public education include, but perhaps not limited to, the following: change in drinking & driving ages; study; & oh, yeah, destroy television. Riiight.

Some of these suggestions are more likely than others.

And where did this discussion start? Wasn't it Obama & taxes? It really is curious how convoluted these threads can become. I note, however, that there are many cogent comments posted in this forum for which you have no retort/response.

At any rate, please accept my honest apology to you, proudliberal. I have been unkind in my remarks. There is no need to be disagreeable in disagreement.

My argument is with bogus ideas. Ad hominem has no place here. I trust you will agree.

"The Nazis are well remembered for murdering well over 11 million people in the implementation of their slogan, 'The public good before the private good,' the Chinese Communists for murdering 62 million people in the implementation of theirs, 'Serve the people,' and the Soviet Communists for murdering more than 60 million people in the implementation of Karl Marx's slogan, 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.' Obama on Education
“I don’t want to send another generation of American children to failing
schools. I don’t want that future for my daughters. I don’t want that
future for your sons. I do not want that future for America.”
- Barack Obama
Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, Des Moines, Iowa
November 10, 2007
-------------------------------------------------

Obama Solution: Determine those teachers that ARE doing their job and pay them more.

Obama doesn't tell us whether preferences, quotas or affirmative action will be used to determine those teachers who are doing their job.

Teachers who are causing the "failing schools" will continue to teach - according to the Obama plan.

It is estimated that 3.2 million teachers will teach the 49.6 million students in 2007-2008.

Logically one could conclude that a significant number of teachers are contributing to the "failing schools" syndrome. Assume 10%, that means 320,000 teachers are teaching 4,960,000 students - that leaves each state (on average) with 100,000 students with a failed education.

Obama doesn't inform us to why those "failure contributors" shouldn't be doing something else.

The Obama plan for education:

If you are doing the job you were hired to do, I will pay you more than your current pay.

If you are NOT doing the job you were hired to do, I will continue your current pay.

Government and Forced Compassion
When government mandates that the American citizen - the individual - 'WILL' show compassion towards others. The dynamic becomes coericive instead of voluntary. When one is 'compelled' to love and share the fruits of ones own labor, resentment and even hatred are the result.

The basis of common civility is not grounded in coercion but in the free will of the individual to feel the rewards and generosity of their selfless generosity towards others.

This government 'mandated' compassion and the breakdown of civility and the welfare state are proportional and concurrent in their growth.

Situational ethics that declare it is a 'good thing' for an individual citizen to be punished for the wrongs committed by ancestors of a particular race or group - those charges are in violation of the common legal code.

If a citizen were arrested for the crime committed by someone across town whom they had never even heard of - there would be outrage from the same ones who now say it is allright to charge a citizen for crimes committed by their ancestors or others of the same skin color.

Proud Liberal's TV ban
Right, PL, because, you know, sex and violence didn't exist until TV was invented. HAHA!

Did you know it was those evil capitalists who started this little thing called the Industrial Revolution? Perhaps you should read Dr. Gregory Clark's "A Farewelll to Alms" that explains how poverty, death rates and interpersonal violence plummeted due to the IR and its effects.

Anyone who blames TV for anything other than making it easier for kids to be lazy, is a meddling, do-gooder, busy-body. Please do mind your own business. I've watched TV religiously all my life, and I wager I'm just as good a person as you, if not better.

I'll also wager there are 19 year-olds who are far more intelligent and responsible than you are, who are more than capable of controlling the sexual and violent urges magically imposed upon them by the evil TV.

So much for your free speech, and thanks for offering ideas on government controlling how people raise their children or banning what I can see or hear as an adult.

Maybe you should read some Ayn Rand and wake up.

SunTheOne
Actually, what Obama did was even worse. He has a point about the fairness issue -- and we can disagree about the definition of fairness. What he did though was say that even though every other time we've raised the tax rate, revenues have gone down, he said this time "they could go up or down." So he's not going to learn anything from history -- this time it's going to be different. Our Savior Barack Obama can walk on water and make people behave differently than they have every other time. It's one thing to disagree about what's fair. It's another to basically argue that up is down and down is up, and that's what Obama did.

Taxes
If there are people out there that want to pay higher taxes. Let them. It's a free country. Personally I beleive my taxes are too high. And I really don't care if rich people exist. I am happy for their good fortune and hope they have enough wisdom for the huge responsibility. I really do not want to give my tax dollars to people as income so the Democrats can keep buying their votes.

Deficit reduction
First off, about a third of our national debt is owned by the Social Security administration. Second, I think most conservatives at TH would say that the solution to deficit reduction is cutting spending, not raising taxes. It's not that we want to burden our children with deficits (which they can pass down to their children, by the way), it's that we would much rather cut government spending and kill two birds with one stone.

?
Abortion theories? I think abortion exists in reality, not just theory. I'd say millions of dead children is more than just a theory.

And if winning 5 of the last 7 presidential elections means we can't convince the American people to go along with us, then you're right.

You live in a fun world, Robert.

judges
"he thought Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “a very sensible judge.”

So sensible she agrees with Canada lowering the age of consent for sex to 12 and thinks we should do the same here.

That's pre-puberty.

How did she vote on Kelo?

Robert
Wow, you really are delusional. You said the right could not convince America to go along with it. Then you change the subject and say you're right because we keep winning. Like I said, it must be an interesting world you live in. Try to keep the drug use to a minimum. Just a suggestion.

Am I rich?
I'd like to know once and for all if I am rich or merely middle class. BHO's tax roll backs and increases are like shifting sands. If the tax cuts are allowed to expire, I guess I'll really get it, higher taxes and heinous gas prices. With that, I will no longer be rich OR middle class. Maybe then I'll qualify for a mortgage bail out, free medical care and government food handouts! A silver lining to be sure!!

Liberal Goal
When are these liberals, like Obama and Hillary, going to finally admit what they really want: 100% taxes, the government decides what you get for your money. They are infiltrating every aspect of the decision making process, when it comes to what the American consumer wishes. They admit they want Government mandated health care. The FDA has almost total control of all that we eat and drink. The EPA decides what kind of car we can buy. It won't be long before we have no choices left at all.

Just stop earning at $99,999.99 should
work to weasel your way out of Obama's big taxes if that is such a concern at that income level! Honestly, How does anybody get that rich without having enough sense to 'figure it out' on ways to economise on their taxes? He ought to tax the tons of shoddy imports coming into this country if he feels he needs to raise taxes instead of raising income taxes on people. Maybe that would bring back a chance to find American made stuff in American stores. I'd settle for half American made & half imported if necessary. Why is Obama sticking his foot in his mouth over taxes? Is he THAT overconfident that he is going to win this election?

Obama or McCain.
All i have to say is "Are we better off under Bush than A Democrat."?

Michelle says....
I will get a bigger piece of the pie. Ain't it great that I can get a slice of your pie and all my pie as well. Thanks, Michelle and Barack for sharing your large slices of pie with me.

I wonder though, is this actually a cow pie?

The wealthy already pay most of the
Revenue the federal government receives. The first lie was and still is "Bush tax cuts for the rich"....It is a simple mathematical manipulation where all those yammering about it see is the final NUMBERS...NOT the process..I.e. 3% of say 100,000 dollars ALREADY PAID IN AS INCOME TAX was $3000. (ah the rich get the break huh?) and TEN PERCENT of say $3000. (what the middle income earner pays on average) was $300...THEY SIMPLY COMPARED the $300 to the $3000 and immediately invoked ENVY....and then conveniently ignored the 40% of this population who pay ABSOLUTELY ZERO income tax yet annually receive a stipend of OTHER PEOPLES money from the federal government in the form of tax credits...they ALSO received a $300 check of OTHER PEOPLES money...Tax cuts for middle income earners? NOT...what happened to the middle class that shrunk was many of us CLIMBED up and out of that convenient category...Clinton and Obama want to put us back in our rightfully controlled places..Repealing the Tax cuts will DESTROY this economy..Tax corporate America and those taxes are passed on to CONSUMERS (you and me) we stop paying the higher prices...the demand decreases..as demand decreases...PEOPLE are laid off..as people are laid off the government receives LESS money in income tax and is burdened more....so they do what? Go after those who already pay almost 70 percent of all revenue paid in to the goverment? Obama and Clinton will drive this country to a DEPRESSION...and then turn around and blame Bush who actually is responsible for the most robust economy this nation has ever known IN SPITE of the fact that deficits are there because of a VERY REAL AND NECESSARY WAR. Psych 101 and co-dependency are what these people use to brainwash the emotionally retarded masses of this nation.

The 44th president’s $4 trillion headach

Do you trust any candidates not to raise taxes on the middle class or not fix AMT?

The candidates want to do things like reduce taxes and fix health care. But they’ll have to deal with the cold realities of the federal budget.

CNN-The presidential candidates all have big plans for their time in the White House. Reform health care. Reduce taxes. Close corporate loopholes. Encourage savings. The list goes on.

Like college graduates whose career choices may be limited by their student loan debt, however, the next president could be constrained by the federal budget.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the annual budget deficit will improve during the next president’s four-year term and end in a surplus of $61 billion by 2013.

Jusme...it's bar stool economics
Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until on day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20."Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so...(continued)

Bar Stool Economics (part 2)
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man," but he got $10!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!"
"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

I don't think it can get anyworse
I don't know if the republicans want to debate economic issues considering the current circumstances. I guess I won't mind paying a few more dollars if it can contribute to the success of the masses. The best way for Republican victory is to swiftboat Obama. McCain is a flip flopper and has shed his maverick label to appeal to the conservative base. The Obama's obviously are willing to pay more, and the super rich invest in overseas markets and ventures anyway to avoid paying taxes

Those High Tax Democrats(and Republicans
No party can promise 'everything for everybody' without the where-with-all to do it.We peons are the where-with-all.

We are gonna get these fixins'whether we want them or not.The politicians know better what is good for us.The further left it leans, the better. That is the Democrat Way.

The Republicans may try to hold back higher taxes, but how will we pay for all the illegals and deadbeats who will be on the Washington teat?

Folks,we are on the road to ruin.Neither candidate in this election cycle can escape it,no matter what they promise.I believe our best days are behind us.I truly fear for our country.

A little economics lesson
I learned from Dr Walter Williams who should be required reading for any democrat.
I want to sell something and need to get $900 for it.
You have $1100 but the gov't taxes the sale at 30% so the cost is $1170...result no sale and no tax revenue to uncle.

Drop the tax to 10% and I get to make the sale, you get the product and keep some money and uncle makes $90 that he didn't have before.

Very simple, how come democrats don't see it?

I had a thought last night about oil...seems to me all the domestic oil belongs to US, maybe it's about time we started telling these fools in congress to quit pandering to the greenies and start drilling, we want OUR oil and the refineries built to process it NOW. To hell with the caribou, suck ANWR dry, nobody goes there anyway and get the oil from the gulf before the Chicoms do.

If we had built new nuke plants 30 years ago when that idiot carter wanted us to put on bigger sweaters, we wouldn't be in this mess now.

I cannot believe the stupidity that's spouted by pols like obama, but people are lapping it up, shows just how the dems plan to dumb down the electorate has succeeded over the last 40 years.

They will sneak their socialism in along with obama if we don't defeat this stealth candidate come Nov. This guy is dangerous.

Robert
You seem to be laboring under the fantasy that this is a democracy, in which the mob can band together and make me a slave.

Just because the people mandate socialism does not make it compatible with the Constitution that was approved by the states originally Welfare programs are STEALING and the recipients are THIEVES. Just because they use government as their collection thugs doesn't make it any more proper.

My life does not belong to some woman with 7 kids up the road, it belongs to me. Nothing should be taken from me which isn't a legitimate function of government. Drugs, diapers, ethanol, subsidies, foreign aid, or regulating the free market isn't amoung them.

Proud Liberal
I have enjoyed your comments and benefited from them. Thanks! If I had attended the University of Georgia,I would be concerned about my ability to discuss economics. While Ace provided an entertaining example on taxes,it was incomplete. The purpose behind any tax decision at this point, should be to reduce the number of "Dollars" in circulation. You see inflation taxes everyone, and places the "POOR" at the greatest disadvantage.A tax system is suppose to be "Transparent".To those who understand economics,no explanation is necessary. To all others, well.

I might have miseed it...
I just skimmed all the comments posted and noticed something that bothered (and frightened) me.

No one caught the KEY STATEMENT in the article:

BHO thinks Ginsberg IS A 'VERY SENSIBLE JUDGE' !!!!!!

Can you imagine a court with another 2 or 3 Ginsbergs on it? A president can be gotten rid of in 4 years, but a Justice is there for LIFE. That can be 20, 30, or even 40 years.

Here's a parade of horrible uglies that more gGinsbergs could lead to (only slightly exagerrated):

1) All native born americans will be required to speak spanish in order to maitain citizenship

2) The US flag could only be flown if the flags of at least 13 other nations were flown at equal heights.

3) Anyone who managed to get here, by hook or by crook, would be entitled to ALL benfits the federal government offers - for life (oh wait, we have that already)

4) Speaking English in public places without also offering translations into other languages would be a federal offense

5) The government would have the right to take your property from you solely on the basis that someone else is willing to pay more taxes on it
(oh wait, we already have that one too)

6) Offending a moslem by doing such things as 'existing without the blessings of allah' could be a federal offense (well, we're almost there now)

7) Things too scary to imagine.....

Deep
Your comments were not at all funny.I have tried to place them in a relevant category, but I have found none.In the future, try not being funny, there maybe your talent?Judge Ginsberg is a fine "Jurist" and has one of the better LEGAL MINDS.

Thanks for the comments from
... Ace, bigfred77, Rowly & Seawolf,et al, for thier individual cogent & intellegent insights offered here regarding economics.

We are headed for a percipitious drop off a very steep cliff.Do we have the moral & political courage to establish economic & energy policies that make sense?

Given that Al Gore (a C- student) & his ilk dominate what passes for national policy, we may well be in for a bumpy ride ahead.

People cannnot choose correctly if given false, flawed, bogus information. Hang on, gang. Liberal stupidity is about to take us down.

Taxes
My problem with dems is that they are always saying we are leaving our children with an incredible tax burden, so lets undo Bush's tax cuts. But they never say they are going to pay down the deficit and our outstanding loans. That does not appear to be their intent. Obama himself said it's about fairness. Whatever that means. Take for some to give to someone else that sounds like extortion. Pay as you go is that anywhere in what they say.

Here's a thought
Hey, here's a bright idea. Why not let EVERYONE pay the same rate of income tax. Let's say 15%, just to be safe. No deductions, no write-offs, no minimum income. If you earn a dollar, you send 15 cents to Uncle Sam. You can exempt children doing things like setting up a lemonade stand, or working in Junior Achievement or Future Business Leaders of America or the like so long as it's not regular employment and they're in high school or lower.

Everyone else pays a flat 15% of their gross earnings. Tax time is stressful as much because you have to fill out a bunch of incomprehensible paperwork as the possibility that you may owe money. Besides, how much money is wasted on audits every year because people don't do the paperwork right?

Cam
I would be willing to bet that Obama is a tax hypocrite like John Edwards, who when he started his ambulance chasing had himself declared an S-3 corp. to shelter his income. In one year were he made 26 million, he only paid $300,000 in taxes. In typical lib form they do not really believe their own rhetoric, not enough to live by it. He and any other high tax favoring lib should claim no deductions and pay the maximum and then some.

Bill Gates, the richest man in America,is a college dropout.Your point, regarding Mr.Gore and his "C" average, has no value.People like you and there are other on (TH),who have no intellectual capacity, should refrain from making comments."It is better, to be thought a FOOL,than to speak and remove all DOUBT"...Remember this!PLEASE...

I liked your analogy.

Someone asked me once if I would like to work for thirty days with my wages starting at 1c per the first day and each day double it.For instance, 1c the first day,2c the second 4c the third and so on.Of course,I said no ,until I figured it.

This is an oldie, but some may not have seen it.

Most voters believe
higher taxes will be for the "rich". They believe it will be them. They have so much to learn.

correct
"They do not believe high taxes will be for them."

Every time you write, you amaze me at your lack of logic. Inflation is a tax -- that is true. The more money the Fed puts into circulation, the less each dollar is worth, and the less my income will purchase. But then you say that if we want to reduce inflation we should increase taxes. That makes no sense whatsoever. You establish that A causes B, and then you think that you can affect A by changing B. That's absolutely bass-ackwards. That you don't realize it says everything I need to know about you and I am no longer going to discuss economics with you. Please buy a principles of economics book and read it. You can get an older edition of any of them on half.com for less than $5.

Sorry Robert
That changing of history will not stand.

Gore, not Bush, brought the first lawsuit to force recounts in certain(Democratic) districts. This was a violation of Florida law, which was upheld 7-2 by the Supreme court.

It is absolutely the job of the SCOTUS to handle appeals from lower courts, so no violation of Federalism at all.

Oh yeah, and every recount showed Bush won.

Good Times During Clinton Years
"One of Clinton's major policy initiatives in his first term was on the American economy. Clinton's economic plan included a major expansion of the existing Earned Income Tax Credit, aimed at working class families just above the poverty line, which helped ensure that it made sense for them to work rather than seek welfare. John F Harris, argues that "this would be prove to be one of the most important and tangible progressive achievements of the Clinton years".

"A major problem with the economy at the time was the issue of the massive deficit and the problem of government spending. In order to address these issues, in August 1993, Clinton signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 which passed Congress without a single Republican vote. It raised taxes on the wealthiest 1.2% of taxpayers, while cutting taxes on 15 million low-income families and making tax cuts available to 90 percent of small businesses. Additionally, it mandated that the budget be balanced over a number of years and the deficit be reduced. This was to be achieved through the implementation of spending restraints.”

"The Clinton years were unquestionably a time of progress, especially on the economy [...] Clinton's 1992 slogan, 'Putting people first,' and his stress on 'the economy, stupid,' pitched an optimistic if still gritty populism at a middle class that had suffered under Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. [...] By the end of the Clinton presidency, the numbers were uniformly impressive. Besides the record-high surpluses and the record-low poverty rates, the economy could boast the longest economic expansion in history; the lowest unemployment since the early 1970s; and the lowest poverty rates for single mothers, black Americans, and the aged."

More on Tax Cuts
Arthur Laffer, PHD, Economist --
"But Reagan's tax cuts for the non-rich were big money losers, and it took the fiscal discipline of Bill Clinton to mop up the resulting red ink. Laffer gushes with praise for Clinton, but he's also a fan of Clinton's successor. "What Clinton did was, he gave Bush the fiscal flexibility to do what was right," Laffer says.

In the face of the recession and terrorist attacks of 2001, Bush "needed to stimulate the economy and spend for defense, and Clinton gave him the ability to do that." (And look what shape the country is in now…)

ginsberg is a good jurist like I am a good nazi (I'm Jewish).

If you actually looked at her votes and history you'd see that her concept of what is 'constitutional' defies logic.

And you believe Wikipedia. Got a hot flash for you. In 1994 my wife and I made significantly less money than in 1993, and paid a helluva a lot more in taxes, after Wee Willie Weinie Wagger's tax "Cut" for the middle class went through, and I was not the only one. To the Dems if you made ove $50 k as a couple you were and are rich.

I suspect if Obama wins, we are all going to become CEOs real quick.

Don't understand how you made less and paid more in taxes. I also fell in the middle class bracket and my tax liability decreased during those years.

Those "middle class tax cuts."

Al Sharpton
Well, all of us don't have to pay taxes ,at least not on time. Breitbart Communications and Matt Drudge says Rev Al owes $1.5 million in back taxes and penalties. The old race-baiter.

economics
By reducing the money supply you decrease the price of goods.Less money chasing more goods will do that, every time. This is not that hard, for most people. Also, you have not been discussing economics, sir.You don't know any!!!

I know what some of those "invisible" things are:
cigarettes, casinos, paying for boyfriend's expenses, designer clothes and shoes, drugs, lottery, playstations, all you can eat buffets, cell phones to name a few. Perhaps these are the invisible things PL was talking about.

Obama -> Cult
Obama in his self assumed role as 'messiah' and the 'Obamaites' who dutifully worship him all exhibit the properties of a cult.

Obamaites scream I love you Obama and he replies I love you too.

Obamaites faint in his prescence 'slain in the spirit' of the prophetic words he espouses.

Obamaites have sensual experiences - 'shivers' in their extremities and 'orgasmic' feelings in his prescence.

Obamaites chant until exhaustion "Yes We Can" and have cultic visions of 'Hope' and 'Change'.

One wonders when Obama will reveal the 'Mother Wheel' of Farrakhan and all the 'little wheels'.

WoW!

Taxes ARE NOT money supply. One's fiscal policy, determined by Congress and the President. The other is monetary policy, determined by the Federal Reserve.

Whether a dollar is in your hands or in the Internal Revenue Service's hands, it's still in circulation. You'll use it to buy things, and the government will too. Ok, I should take my own advice and just not talk to you any more since you have no idea what you are talking about.

He's a LIAR
Him and Hillary Clinton both vote to raise taxes on everybody that makes $31,850/year or more.He voted on that, now let's see him lie about that,it's a matter of fact.
In fact the only person still in the presidential race to vote against any tax increase on anybody was John McCain,of course all the Republicans voted against any tax increase.

Bill Clinton does not deserve any credit
He put us into a recession in '93 and '94,it wasn't until Newt Gingrich and the other Republicans took over congress in '95 and set the economic policy that we came out of a recession. Not only that, but Bush inherited a recession from Bill Clinton.
If Obama ever gets to be President, you better hope that we get a Republican Congress so we don't go back to the Jimmy Carter era.
Obama talks of change, but his change is going back wards, not for wards.
John McCain has got my vote.
