Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the longtime friend and former pastor of Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama, wrote a fiery letter to The New York Times after the paper published an unflattering news story about Wright’s relationship with Obama in 2007.

“Thank you for engaging in one of the biggest misrepresentations of the truth I have ever seen in sixty-five years,” Wright wrote in a letter to Times reporter Jodi Kantor made available online by Time magazine.

“Jodi, out of two hours of conversation I spent approximately five to seven minutes on Barack’s taking advice from one of his trusted campaign people and deeming it unwise to make me the media spotlight on the day of his announcing his candidacy for the Presidency and what do you print?” Wright asked. “You and your editor proceeded to present to the general public a snippet, a printed ‘sound byte’ and a titillating and tantalizing article about his disinviting me to the Invocation on the day of his announcing his candidacy.”

Kantor’s article, dated March 6, 2007, discussed Obama’s decision to rescind an invitation to Wright to deliver an invocation on the day Obama announced his intention to run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton told Kantor the campaign did this because it “did not want the church [Trinity United Church of Christ] to face negative attention.” Instead of delivering an invocation, Wright prayed with Obama before the announcement and otherwise stayed on the sidelines of the event.

Kantor mentioned in her piece some black leaders were “questioning Mr. Obama’s decision to distance his campaign from Mr. Wright because of the campaign’s apparent fear of criticism over Mr. Wright’s teachings, which some say are overly Afrocentric to the point of excluding whites.”

Wright was upset with Kantor because he felt she did not give enough attention to the positive attributes of his church or Obama’s campaign. In his letter, Wright said: “The president of our denomination, the Reverend John Thomas, has offered to try to help you clarify in your confused head what Trinity Church is even though you spent the entire weekend with us setting me up to interview me for what turned out to be a smear of the Senator; and yet The New York Times continues to roll on making the truth what it wants to be the truth.”

Wright accused The New York Times of “leading the bandwagon in trumpeting why it is we should have gone into an illegal war,” and becoming “George Bush and the National Republican Party’s National ‘blog’.”

The pastor ended his letter to Kantor on an angry, sarcastic note. “There is no integrity when it comes to the Times. You should do well with that paper, Jodi. You looked me straight in my face and told me a lie!”

Wright’s letter did not deter Kantor from writing another piece about Wright on April 30, 2007—almost two months after her piece about Wright being disinvited from Obama’s presidential announcement events. It detailed Wright’s influence Obama’s political life and raised questions about the pro-black ideology of the Wright’s church.

It contained a telling quote from Kantor’s original interview with Wright that proves Wright and Obama frankly discussed the negative impact Wright could have on Obama’s candidacy.

“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Wright told Kantor in March 2007. “I said to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”

The Times stands by their work. In a statement to Time magazine, New York Times Political Editor Richard W. Stevenson said, “it is worth noting that at no time has Mr. Wright challenged the accuracy of either story written by Ms. Kantor – both of which, given the events of the last several weeks, seem remarkably prescient about the potential political peril in the Obama-Wright relationship.”

Oh brother....
Why yes, the New York Times and the Republican Party are on such good terms. LOL Shows again how completely out of touch with reality Wright is.

Even B. Hussein's followers know his 'distancing' of himself from Wright is pure balony. B. Hussein is in complete agreement with Wright. Did any of those videos show anyone who was alarmed or surprised by what Wright was preaching? Of course not. They were all 'Amens' and 'right ons'... just like B. Hussein and his wife. Yeah, we're fooled.

This column
is illuminating. It confirms that Wright and Obama were well aware of possible negative aspects of being too closely associated with a church grounded in Black Liberation Theology. It shows that disassociation in the future (as seen in april 2007) might be politically necessary. And of course, no political necessity could be a lie. But even more, it shows how little Obama really knows about the hearts of white folks. Bill Clinton dumped Sister Soujah with nary a ripple. Obama should hav paid attention. He could very easily have come out of this smelling like a rose. I think its too late for him now, but never say never. I think its McCain's turn now to do something really stupid, Hillary and Obama having had the last couple turns.

Picture this 527 video
From Maggie

Soft music in the background “ America the Beautiful”.
Sound plays : Reverend Wright screaming “God Damn America, God Damn America”

On the screen you hear the planes zeroing in on the towers, people on the street looking up and screaming. Now you see the towers engulfed in flames, Americans jumping from the burning buildings to avoid the flames and to their deaths. People on the street terrorized, running, screaming, stopping, lifting up total strangers and dragging them along. Firefighters running up the stairs carrying all their equipment on their backs. Knowing this is their duty as Americans.
Finally: Family members of the victims standing on street corners
clutching photo of their missing family members. Have you seen this person ?
Final scene : Construction workers and firefighters raising the American flag amidst the rubble.
All the while Pastor Wright is screaming above the soft music of America the Beautiful "God Damn America, God Damn America, The chickens have come home to roost".

Obama " Don't tell me words don't matter".
Narrator: The words you have heard are spoken from the pulpit of Barak Obama’a church of 20 years. These words are from his pastor and mentor. Would you trust Barak’s judgement to become Commander in Chief of this great nation ?

How Funny
The New York Times is a national blog for the Republican Party? This statement should confirm that the good Rev is a half bubble off of plumb.

Amanda
Please tell me, that Ms.Kantor was the person who broke the Rev.Wright story, most recently being covered. If not, she allowed a great opportunity to slip by,even though the facts were sitting right in her face. The Times may need to retrain Ms.Kantor, one story does not a career make.Incompetence appears to be everywhere!Be careful...

It could be that it was the family business, his father, I believe was a Pastor. Like any other
profession, many times follow in their father's footsteps regardless of any calling or talent for the job.
The Bible does say we will know them by their fruits, don't remember exact chapter/verse. My Pastor always says we can't judge a persons heart but we can be fruit inspectors.
If he is indeed preaching the straight Black Liberation Theology, then he's preaching another Jesus. And preaching another Jesus, leading gullible people into the sin of hatred is pretty rotten fruit with a lot of flies buzzing around it.

LW We are just a mixed group of conservatives
for the most part, some are professionals others
aren't. What we have in common is our love for our country, and many also are people of faith.
And we have an assortment of what I learned when I first posted, liberal trolls. The retorts
to their inane comments are pretty good and very entertaining. I don't usually interject my comments, I leave it to the ones with the seniority and the expertise. They don't take any prisoners but the trolls can't stand prosperity and keep coming back for more.

Whhops
Correction LW, by professionals, I meant people
with from a diverse segment of professions, not
just professional writers. I don't think I've ever not learned something from one or two of them each time I come to this site.

Who's Surprised?
The only surprising thing in the article is that the NYT had anything to do with outing Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. The idea that Rev. Wright would attack anyone that exposed his racist rantings shouldn't be a revelation. What else would you expect from such a person?

What really bothers me is that Rev. Wright has so many supporters in the black church. This past weekend they had a state of the black church conference in Texas. To a person, all of the black ministers that were interviewed said they support Jeremiah Wright Jr. Some people even called him a prophet. I can't believe that this racist is now a prophet. The things that some people can justify never fails to amaze me.

Hey lula may
Have you seen this link? It was in today's Best of the Web that James Taranto edits on the WSJ's website. He linked to the youtube video someone put together highlighting these things about Wright and what it may mean for Obama. And it was put together by a liberal and is posted on a liberal blog! Pretty funny...

http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/3/29/65423/4259

Hey lula may (2)
I meant to add this as well. It kinda reminded me of what that jerk (can't remember his name) in NH said when he brought up Obama's drug use and hinted at what those nasty Repubs will do with that during the general election campaigns. This website also refers to what those nasty Repubs will do--that way it isn't Hillary's folks putting this stuff out. They are just preparing the Demo's for what they are gonna see!

Robert
It's nice to know you're still out there. But I'm not going to mesh with you so go ahead and have your fun. And by the way, I liked to way you thanked me for saving you from that nut case Doc on the other post yesterday. I should have let you find out for yourself what that guy does.

Lula May
(How odd1 I had an aunt named ”Lula May.“)

I am amazed at how Obama supporters cannot grasp the depth that this problem is for his candidacy. I cannot imagine a general election with Mr. (he does not deserve any religious honorific) Wright running 24/7.

Robert is really a nice guy at heart. He just insists on attacking people, even when you try to reach out to him. I think he's got some serious issues when it comes to religion. So give Robert a break, I don't want him to get his feelings hurt (he's very sensitive).

Colosteve
Wow, that is weird. I started putting this stuff out on Sunday. But the date on this is Saturday. The video they did is crude but the Obama supporters have to have their heads in the sand. I gotta go back and read the comments. thanks

LW
Retired engineer here, been teaching school part time because i like to see kids learn. As was said, one can hardly scan the coments without seeing something that expands the horizon. This column was one of the better ones. Best to scroll past the left wing trolls. Honest liberals don't last long, if they fight fair they are soon snowed under by challenges to any arguement they may bring up. So virtually all one sees from the left are fallacious red herrings, ad hominem attacks, the "you guys do it first and worst". stuff like that. I haven't purposfully read the stuff from names i recognize from the left for months. The Obama controversey brought in a lot of new names, mostly black folks who said over and over slavery was bad. They couldn't seem to figure out that no one was disagreeing, but when they started into the "therefore we are entitled to..." nobody here feels responsible, guilty or that they are entitled to anything anybody else is not.

Lula May
A powerful word picture. I truly hope to see something very like it if Obama is the candidate.

gretske
BO supporters are willfully deceiving themselves about their candidate. I think BO could shot someone on live TV and they'd say it was a set up. This is so typical for left-wing ideologues. But all this deceit is going to kill BO in the fall. He not going to be able to hide his record forever. And if you pay attention I think the media is starting take so of the shine off BO's armour.

Who does Obama intend to represent?
There is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Althogh I am no expert, there also seems to be the gospel of black america. One will save you. The other tends to perpetuate bitterness. The late E.V. Hill was black and preached to a largely black church, the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. He walked the walk. And although he was black, ministering to a "black" church, the gospel he preached was the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was not "black". It was universal. Every time I ever heard him he ministered to me, never failing to convict me, humble me, lift me up and lead me to the unfathomable grace of God, and this despite my shortcomings, my sin, my fears and my self pity. I did not know him or attend his church. But if had I one tenth of his character, this white boy would consider his life a success in the truest sense of the word. But from what I am hearing in the media about pastor Wright, I could not say the same for him. Not at all. Mr. Obama - you will be known by the company you keep. And if that friend is also your spiritual mentor, well, it is right that you are required to answer the questions being raised about your beliefs, your judgment and the people you intend to represent. Is your goal to represent a single group, a minority, or the entire citizenery of the United States?

Just to be a pedantic prig...

boo hoo
The "Rev" Wright doesn't think the New York Times is being nice. Welcome to our world. I suppose his racism also extends to thinking Obama should be treated with kid gloves.

Really Funny

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not preached at that church.

"Obama describes his new found "Christian" faith as: (1) Suspicious of dogma (2) Without any monopoly on the truth (3) Nontransferable to others (4) Infused with a big healthy dose of doubt, and (5) Indulgent of and compatible with all other religions.

On Feb 15/08, Usama K. Dakdok, President of The Straight Way of Grace Ministry called Obama's Church and reported the following conversation: " I then asked the person who answered what I needed to do to join. She told me that I needed to attend two Sunday School classes in a row and then I would walk the aisle. I replied, "That sounds easy. One last question please. If I am Muslim and I believe in the Prophet Mohammed, peace be unto him and I also believe in Jesus, peace be unto him, do I have to give up my Islamic faith to be a member in your church? She answered: "No, we have many Muslim members in our church."

When Obama was Barry he was a Moslem.

LW
Since no one else answered you, I'll do my best.

You ask if posters are regular folk or professionals. I think I qualify as a professional now (working for a university), but prior to that I was a college drop-out who worked as a bartender, selling cemetery lots, teaching retarded adults to janitorial work, and washing dishes. I did finish my undergraduate degree eventually, did a year of law school before deciding I am not a lawyer, spent two years writing novels without finding a publisher (and still write them, and still don't have any luck with publishers). When I took another stab at higher education I was accepted into a doctoral program, but had insufficient funds, could not get any scholarships, and had maxed out my student loans, so that pretty much ended my formal education.

After college I worked another series of odd jobs until I finally came to rest working for state social services for two years, then discovered my hobby of computer programming was actually an employable skill, and since then have worked as a programmer, administrator, database administrator, and everything else imaginable dealing with computers and telecommunications. (Everything from running cables to writing hardware drivers.)

So, I am a professional, but I don't really feel like one. The years bar tending, cleaning bathrooms and peddling various products left me feeling a lot more ordinary than professional.

Hope that helps.

LW (Correction)
I did not mean to slight Savage99. I didn't notice that reply until after I posted.

So, it appears I am the second to reply.

liberals and Obama
hello all,

I am new to the site and although I've voted Democratic all my life I hope that you won't dismiss me as a "liberal troll." I came here originally to read Thomas Sowell, and because I was so disillusioned with the "Cult of Obama." I am a Hillary supporter (don't be hatin'!) but may vote for McCain in the fall. I just cannot believe how many people have swallowed the Obama-as-Savior line.

I have visited many black churches in my life and have never heard the kind of swill Rev. Wright "preaches." maybe I've just been lucky...or maybe he IS an aberration. I prefer to think the latter. whichever it is, tho, the idea of Barack Obama having sat in the pews for 20 years listening to this guy is troubling. I'm not saying Obama is any worse than anyone else...but he is certainly not the Second Coming his rabid fan base thinks he is.

michigan ruth
Welcome to our little world. Unlike many of the "liberal sites" like Puffington Host that don't tolerate conservative (or even liberal points of view that they don't agree with) views by deleting them, we do welcome those from the "dark side" :-) who are willing to argue up front and with vigor (the trolls aren't nearly as well treated!)

Regarding Wright, so far I have been reading and hearing mostly support from other black ministers. What isn't clear is are they supporting him because he is "one of us" and their support is based on his skin color or is it that they actually agree with him and what they generally say for our (the white world) ears is what they think we want to hear. Who knows what is real!

michigan ruth
First of all I hate the term troll. I think that anyone who wants to make a reasoned post should be allowed to do so without being attacked. There enough people on these blogs that are just out to tick others off and offer nothing to advance the political discourse. So welcome.

As for your concern about what's happening in the black church in America, I couldn't agree with you more. I wrote an open letter to Barack Obama on my blog about this situation with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. And following is the link to my letter. http://honesty-honestly.blogtownhall.com/2008/03/17/barack _obama_concerning_racism_in_america.thtml

Personally, I feel hurt by what I heard on the news by Rev. Wright. I am glad that you have not heard the hateful speech that BO sat and listened to for 20 years. I always thought that black christians were just christians. But now I have to wonder if someone that's black and goes to church has been taught to hate me because I'm white. I really hope not. So I'm glad you shared your experience. Thank you.

The pot called who black?
You mean the NYT lied and is a blog for right wing conservatives? Wasn't too sure how crazy Wright was until this article. I'm constantly amused by his rants and Wright NEVER refutes them, just keeps spewing "I'm being taken out of context!". Thanks Amanda!

LW - electrical engineer (22 years), right of center, Asian, Southern Baptist, English 2nd language, imperfect but happy Grandpa.

"Obama-nized" rhymes with "lobotomized"; outcome the same in both instances.

SonofaVet
I think the you're right. Wright is out of touch with reality. Hate has a tendency to blind people. I don't think Hitler saw himself as a hate filled megalomaniac either. And now you have apologists running around saying that he's been misquoted. How is God Damn America a misquote?

yes, the subject line!
oops, my eloquent response seems to have gotten lost in the ether b/c I didn't include a subject line. (sigh)

I can sum up what I said tho: Democrats are going to keep losing elections until they figure out that Americans like other Americans who love America. this is still the greatest country in the world.

why don't they get that?

Michigan Ruth
You can't be all bad if you came to read Sowell. :-D He's about the closest thing to everybody's hero around here. As i noted above to LW, honest open-minded left wingers have a hard time here. Every opinion, no matter how debatable, is going to get snowed under by a storm of dissenters, some of them less than civil, i blush to say. And many of the hostiles on the right get that way by the deliberately provocative folks who cruise by, make some remark calculated to get a response, and tie up the thread with nonsense. Most left vs right discussions quickly deteriorate into anecdotes, which really prove nothing.

So far as black churchs go, the church i attended in Wash DC was half black. I saw no signs of Black Lib Theology, or even de facto segregated seating. The minister was white, but i would say the laymen who were most active and most devout were black.

Mr M Coupe
Come on, it wasn't a misquote as it is that people are taking it horribly out of context! The problem is, we just cannot understand what context it could have been in that would make such a line acceptable as part of a sermon being preached by an American pastor. I guess we are just dense black-hating whites.

As to LW's question, several people have written about themselves. I actually thought that LW was asking about the writers of the columns and whether they are professionals. But obviously I can be wrong (I have been at least once before, unless you ask my wife and then it is frequent--like when I open my mouth to speak!). Now I am anything but liberal!

If LW is actually looking at our backgrounds, I am a Computer Engineer (for 20+ years) working as a software consultant living in Colorado. I spent almost nine years in the Navy operating the nuclear reactors on submarines, making it to the rank of E-7 (Chief Petty Officer). Grew up liberal (actually thinking communism sounded good!) until I got out of HS and started thinking for myself.

You may have went to school in the '40's, but it is kinds obvious you did not graduate,

Is The Good Rev. Wright Certifiable?
Enquiring minds want to know, it sure sounds like it, the New York Times a blog for the GOP? Are you kidding me? Hello Bellevue, there's this pastor/mentor in chicago-an Obamanite who is, well, KOOKOO! KOOKOO! KOOKOO! Check him for rabies will you. It is however, kinda nice to see LLW's or Loony Left Wingers go after each other I would give anything to set up that meeting and watch the fireworks.
In the middle- the reporter miz Jody Kantor a referee of sorts, on her left her boss the biggest mega-huge most renowned editor-in-chief on the planet Bill " I rule the world and photoshopped it myself" Kellar, on her other left the "good" Reverend Jeremiah "I mentor nationalist senators for 20 years" Wright, we're going to need a sponsor, because this has the makings of cable reality show, I know, Extenze for male enhancement, yeah.

LW: you're right
the comments on here ARE especially good--at least from the small sample I've seen tonite. and people here actually seem to remember how to spell and punctuate correctly...that's nothing short of amazing for the web.

savage 99, I'm not surprised that "liberals" get a drubbing when they come on here, because at least some of them have very strange ideas about reality, IMHO.

for instance--and I'm going to be accused of being racist, but here goes anyway--everybody's concerned about so many "young black men" being in prison. is it environment? is it racism? is it lack of jobs? all of that may be a factor, but the main reason is--wait for it--they COMMIT MOST OF THE CRIMES. now we can talk all we want about root causes, but until people start taking responsibility for their actions we are going to get nowhere.

I work for a very famous college that's staked its reputation on "diversity." what they MEAN by diversity is "black," and to a very much smaller extent, gay/hispanic/Muslim. if they were interested in true diversity, they'd have some conservative professors, for one thing. but this political correctness insanity is the kind of stuff that drives your "typical white person" (thanks Barack Obama!)crazy, and obscures the REAL problems we have in this country.

Colosteve
The thing that bothers me, is the number of black commentators that keep saying that what Wright said, has to be understood in the boarder context of the black church. I still don't know what the heck that means. I also heard one black minister say, that the black church has a long history of 'truth telling'. I didn't know that the black church is the only place to find the truth.

I think that BO and his pastor have set race relations back 20 years. I thought that we were past a lot of the hurts from the past. But you have to realize that the politics of victimization keeps ministers like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Jeremiah Wright Jr. employed. There's no way that they'd ever say that America is a fair place, because they've gotten rich telling blacks that white America is holding them down. Just look at what happened to Bill Cosby when he tried to tell the black community its time to move on and take responsibility for they own lives.

Everybody is playing very nicely here tonight. I consider myself to be conservative 99% of the time, but you wouldn't believe how many times I've been attacked by some people that think I'm not conservative enough. Some of the people on Townhall can be very insulting. So, if this happens to you don't be surprised.

Most of the time when people attack me, I let them know how I feel about what they're saying. But some people are just a waste of time. So don't fall into there traps. Just stop responding to them. Sometimes I even post warnings to others that certain people just want to pick fights. This usually ruins their games and people avoid the agitators.

welcome to our TH community. From months of observation, my opinion is that we treat others as we are treated by them. So if we are treated respectfully, we respond in like kind. There are those from what I would consider the far left that can (or is it who can?) be rude and insulting - or worse - and they generally are repaid, with interest.

OK. I'll try again. Are not both "grammatically" and "incorrectly" adverbs modifying "writes?"
There probably should be a comma between the two adverbs, no?

Lumberjack 7392's correction was right because the suffix on grammatically correct was already on the word preceding correct. Had our grammatically challenged poster used correctly without putting grammatically before it, there would have been no need for any correction.

Standing in this corner!
...we have the relentlessly neo-Marxist and uber-progressive NY Times!

And in this corner we have the beautifully demented and paranoid personage of Reverend Jeremiah Wright -- spiritual and moral mentor to the presumptive loser in the 2008 Presidential contest -- Barack O-BAM-AAA! [swooning crowd noises, including audible thuds of thick heads striking pre-positioned swoon cushions before pre-positioned swoon cameras]

There is something slightly surreal when an America-bashing jerk like Rev. Wright attacks the NY Times for being a "Republican blog." Let us enjoy the moment.

NYT
Wright calls the NYT a Republican Rag? He says “leading the bandwagon in trumpeting why it is we should have gone into an illegal war.” And becoming “George Bush and the national Republican Party’s national blog.”

How ironic this young NYT reporter was the first to identify in print the issues of Jeremiah Wright and Trinity Church of Christ as a potential problem of Barack Hussein Obama.

“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Wright told Kantor in March 2007. “I said to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”
So, we see that way back in 2007 Obama and Wright discussed that Obama he might need to drop him. Obama was not smart enough to distance himself politically from Wright before the story broke. Yet, Obama was not aware of any hate speech (sermon) ever given by Wright, then later said he was aware he said some controversial thing. Well, which was it, Doofus?

Amanda, thanks for this story. Keep it up. We cannot afford to let these “snippets” die. By the way, get Ms. Kantor to write on the TH.

God Bless America, our troops and George W. Bush.

Positive attributes?
"Wright was upset with Kantor because he felt she did not give enough attention to the positive attributes of his church or Obama’s campaign."

What positive attributes can possibly come from a racist, divisive, cultic church? Or from a false preacher?

Or from Obama? Obama wants to increase the size of government, making it the nanny from cradle to grave, from womb to the tomb. He will bankrupt America. He also wants to promote homosexuality, abortion and every thing that is ungodly.

The Truth, The Whole Truth & Nothing ...
The Truth. The culture, content, cadence and comprehension of Black Liberation Theology (BLT) is a self-centered (Afro-centric) replacement of GOD's Good News as revealed in Scripture. It is not centered in GOD's Redemptive Love. Every preacher, speaker, comedian and pundit knows that he must have a "money line" - a phrase, a sound-bite sentence that captures the essence of the point. The speaker/writer is trying to be remembered, not forgotten. Editors, especially those who write and tease the headlines practice that craft carefully so that you and I, the readers/listeners tune-in, rather than turn out. Therefore, when blacks defend another black with whom they agree (not Bill Cosby) you will find them saying to "white folk" - (as "Wrong-Wright" wrote to the NYT) yo' gotta understand wherez we iz comin' from man! Yet, when challenged to put the snippet "god damn america" in the culture, content, cadence and comprehension that makes it understandable or acceptable, you see and hear the shuffling of feet and stammering of lips. You will not rescue blacks and liberals from BLT. Their minds have already become reprobate. My own venue for vision and values is at RIVER RISING REVIEW. What I Am
I'm a wife and mom and a part-time copy and features editor at a weekly newspaper.

Professional
Contrary to our firm policy of dividing us into Professionals (meaning lawyers) and Staff (embracing everyone from Law Clerks to the ladies who clean the toilets), I am a professional executive secretary (21 years and counting) and motorsport journalist. I am a good writer because I have a classical education and a good debater because my Daddy did not allow us to say *Its going to be a nice day tomorrow* unless we could cite sources.

As for The Reverend LeRoy of the Church of Whats Happening Now, I hope he continues to spew. The Puppeteer is wondering where he happened to drop the strings....

To all conservatives and liberals on TH
Everyone:

I want to bring your attention to a statement that was made here on Townhall yesterday.

An individual, who goes by the moniker of ModMark, made a statement yesterday that was completely vile and offensive and beyond the standards of human courtesy and decency.

ModMark made a statement that condemned all christians as being pedophiles who believe in sex slavery. He used a passage from the Old Testament to make this claim.

He did not make this statement in reference to anything anyone wrote. The statement had nothing to do with the article, or with any of the topics on the thread to that article. Rather, he made the statement apparently for no other reason than to be vile and offensive.

When asked for a retraction of his statement and an apology to all, ModMark became arrogant and even more offensive, if such is possible.

I call on everyone who posts at Townhall to put aside their political and philosophical and religious differences and join me in censuring ModMark for his statements and to press him for a retraction and an apology. This is an issue that cuts across the spectrum, as christians are not limited to either the left or right wing points of view.

Thank you.

The vast number of drivebytrolls get off on replies. They care nothing for logic, truth or civility. Most of them get quite good at provoking responses, either by saying something so outrageous that outraged newbies can't let it go by, or by making some statement so easily refutable that some poster engages in an honest discussion, only to find that the topic is shifted, or irrelevant anecdotes brought in and so forth. Any response is a victory to these miserable people who get so few positive strokes they are willing to settle for cold prickly strokes. Ignoring them works.

Never worry about labels--Racism, anti-Semite or any of the others. Labels were created to stifle debate and shut people up. When you are being labeled, you have hit a nerve that cannot be refuted with facts. Press on and do not relent, you are on to something. Caution: Sometimes a person's words can be self refuting and no counter is necessary. In those instances a label is all that is needed. My example of that is Rev Wrights words about 911--He is UnAmerican.

Interesting
So, she broke the true story back in spring 2007 and nowhere did the rest get exposed until a few weeks ago...

If Wright was exposed back then like he is now, I believe Obama would be out of the race.

I wonder who made the decision to hide all this? Who made the decision to expose him now?

The latest on Pastor Wright--He's getting a million dollar mansion in Tinley Park, Illinois for free.

Coupe
At least over the years we had gotten used to the BS from Revs Jackson & Sharpton and though I heard a lot of race-baiting and 'victimhood in the hood' NEVER did I hear the type of HATE-SPEECH that flows freely from the lips of Rev/mentor/spiritual-advisor Jerry Wright!

I do agree that the O'Blame-Ya candidacy has set back race relations (at least) two decades, in fact I don't recall the nerves being this raw since the late 60's early 70's.
Ironically his campaign was supposed to be a sign that the black, African-American community had achieved something akin to parity. That it is his own pastor causing the 'problem' by living in the past and re-opening old wounds in doing so is sad.
One would think a candidate for president would be vetted a little better than Barry was...his association with Wright was a known fact even when the MSM in their haste to be Politically Correct & be rid of the Clintons once and for all, jumped aboard the Barry Hussein O'Blame-Ya bandwagon.
So the notorious 'right-wing blog' NYT is just as much to blame for whatever the outcome of this black/white issue becomes as the Rev & the candidate themselves will be.

Sans Pareil
I think that Obama wasn't vetted better because of the very thing that is now happening--anyone who dares say anything about him gets accused of racism. The "Chickens coming home to roost" are different from what the good (ha!) reverend meant. Instead this is what is the likely outcome of making race central to a person's being and being black means (pardon stealing from AlBore's life story!) "Never having to say your sorry" no matter what you do.

Blacks commit most of the "Prosecutable Crimes".Obviously stealing other people's money, such as in the cases of Enron and others,is not one of these.I could explain America's pathology. But, it would be almost impossible for you to understand.Years of distortion and lack of use,has placed the American mind in a permanent STATE of disrepair.SORRY...

I'm curious
Nine TH posters out of ten will write that anything the NY TImes writes is a deliberate lie out ot destro America, and that it can't be trusted.

I saw the long piece in the Times back in 2007 - it was very critical, and called into the national consciousness the problem that Obama's association with Wright would be.

Yet, I didn't see one column or post about it on TH, and when FOX news put out their tapes onto america's intellectual think-tank You Tube, it suddenly created a storm.

what does this mean? Do TH-ers and their columnists only know what FOX and You Tube bring to the table?

Descriptive phrases
For Bro. Mike,

I hadn't run across "half a bubble off plumb" before, and think it a good one. Here a a few more to describe hate-monger Wright, and way too many Obamaniacs:
"He is one taco short of a combination plate."
"His driveway doesn't go all the way up to his garage."
"His brain-case is a half quart low."

I can speak only for myself but...
For me it means that I get most of my info electronically...Fox, Cnn, and until the Chris Matthews 'tingling leg' comment MSNBC as well as the 'local take' on the national news.
I'll read Newspapers, but only the on-line version and NEVER the NYT...I believe they would 'use' the fact that I logged onto their website in some way that might keep them in business one day longer than they would be had I not perused their slanted version of the news.
Besides, I get the NYT talking points by reading several dozen other publications, no real need to go into the belly of the beast.

When the NYT divulged state secrets (cell phone tracking of UBL etc.) They lost me and any pretense that they were an American Institution. Anti-American is more like it. Worthy of MY time? No Way!

Tru Arnston,

As a matter of fact, I remember reading through several threads in the first few days after the news broke, and many people expressed surprise and pleasure at the fact that it was the NYT that broke the story. I am a true conservative and read everything from NYT, LATimes, Wash Post to Washington Times, WSJ and Townhall. Not much in my broad reading habits has caused me to rethink my conservative beliefs!

Doro and sans pareil
If you read so many newspapers, why didn't you see anything until FOX news vetted it? This was not actually a military secret.

I have another question for you and Sans pareil - why is it that 90% of TH is about Democrats, but 90% of left-leaning blogs like the one Tru mentioned (TalkingPointsMemo) is about Democrats?
I have been going there for years, and the kind of child-like name-calling and rant doesn't go on there. I also have conservative friends who go to blogs similar to that who refuse to spend 5 minutes on TH. But, they also say they are looking for other points of view presented in rational ways and are bored by food fights.

CKHustler
Well, computers was different back in my day! (I went to Rensselaer in upstate NY for my Computer Engineering degree in the early '80s) so don't know if I'd be of any help. I'll be heading up your way for a few months going to Rochester to the Mayo Clinic. Hope the weather warms soon!

The TH obssession
with Democrats makes it seem as if conservatives don't have any genuine philosophy or identity of their own, except for cutting off the poor, arresting immigrants, bashing gays, sex, guns, God, and "Kulture".

How come none of you ever discuss anything in depth, but mostly (not always) bumper stickers?
Why do TH posters hate opposing points of view, no matter how civil and rational?

"Minister" Jeremiah Wright
Concerning the hate mongerer Wright who has recently absented himself from public scrutiny:

COCKROACHES ALWAYS RUN WHEN YOU TURN ON THE LIGHTS!!

Wright, Farrakhan and the newly minted purveyor of victimhood hate justification, Barack Obama, should revisit some of the speeches from the KKK in the first half of the 20th century wherein the "misunderstood" white supremacists appealed to others with twisted logic to understand why hate toward black Americans was reasonable. Hate is hate, regardless of the source and Americans need to soundly reject it every time it is expressed regardless of source or political correctness strictures.

Deathstar
I was perfectly aware of the NYT "outing" of Wright. Don't know what made you think otherwise.

"I have another question for you and Sans pareil - why is it that 90% of TH is about Democrats, but 90% of left-leaning blogs like the one Tru mentioned (TalkingPointsMemo) is about Democrats?"
That's almost too easy. Because Democrats are navel-gazers and self-congratulators. Conservatives are problem solvers and we all know that the first step in solving any problem is to correctly identify it.
Finally, I would love to know what liberal sites you are on that are so rational and lack feisty discussion. I can only imagine it's a la Daily Kos/Huffington wherein dissention is not acceptable and posts are removed simply on the basis of a different opinion. Yup, you're right, they're pretty quiet (albeit with foul, gutter language when referring to anyone right of Karl Marx)

deathstar?
Tell me why I shouldn't think that Obama is an anti-American? If you sit and listen to a man, I don't care what he's gone throug, talk about this country for 20 years then you accept his philosophy. No matter how much you spin it for the media. If you think the country as a whole is bad speak up. I'm anxiously awaiting you're response. With proven examples of course. How deep is that for ya'?

It is about timing - It has to cook
The Wright piece had to cook. Back then the dems were still trying to keep race out of the campaign. Republicans had their own hands full.
Now the gloves are off. You don't really think all the mud is out of the barrel already, do you? Lots more slinging could happen. There will be other NEW revelations that aren't new at all. They will, like a fine wine, be ready in time. Or like a good recipe, come out of the oven when the bell goes ding and not a moment sooner.

Obama, a black nationalist
Obama is the product of genetic Black Nationalism , cultivated by Democrats to pose as the VP selection under Clinton. But the strategy backfired, much to the distress of the “establishment” in the Clinton controlled Democratic party. How did this happen?

First, the Democrats would sell their mothers to gain the Whitehouse – as exemplified by their betrayal of the nation by undermining our military with their anti-war, anti-Bush rhetoric that encouraged our enemies and their sell-out to the homosexuals to gain their endorsement. Second, the Democrats underestimate the negative aspects of Clinton’s record – and her passing on Bill’s sexual indiscretions in the Oval Office!

Now the Democrats are endorsing Black Nationalism with its thesis of Black Theology that is anti-white and holds that Christ is served by resorting to violence to put in place the Black agenda! Obama preaches unison does in fact endorses division as evidenced by his support of Pastor Wright. He is articulate and proves the truth that there is nothing more dangerous in nature than a brilliant mind with bad ideas. What are those bad ideas? Surrendering in Iraq, raising taxes and embracing the homosexual agenda. Democrats can thank Howard Dean for this travesty.

We are NOT monolithic by a long shot.
It is like joining a club. You don't get a good feel for it until you've been around awhile.

and ignorant and naive- if not downright stupid.

Get off your sanctimonious high horse about TH.

TH allows libtard trolls to post all the time. If libtard idiocy inspires derision from other posters, so be it. You're on the opposing team's turf. Deal with it, you crybaby.

Contrast that with DU, HuffPo, Kos, and all the other moonbat electronic equivalents of bird cage liners that are the real hate sites. Any one who's not in complete agreement with their party line is banned almost immediately after posting.

Obviously, it's those rough, tough libtards who can't handle a little rigorous debate. At least TH offers up a forum that allows its core constituents to be challenged.

With friends like these...
This is great. With friends like these (Wright), Barry may not need enemies. So the racist opens his big mouth and stupidly accuses the Slimes of being a republican mouthpiece: astounding. Because of the pastor's pride and self-righteousness in trying to call the NYT out, he has now trained the media's attention even more on his relationship with Obamagician. Inadvertently he is rehashing the whole thing in the news, like when he returned from exile to standing ovations proving that his racist viewpoints are widely held and somehow pevertedly deemed an asset by Flager and his group. I say keep it going, continue to lash out at anyone who doesn't believe the ridiculousness of the "out of context" thing, and keep smearing poop on your playmate barack...

Read Badboy's post and then tell me I'm wrong, he just exemplified, perfectly, exaclty what I'm talking about. For every civil poster like Para_dimz there are 50 like Badboy - ignorant, insult-hurling, and most likely drunk.

Badboy
Why don't you go to http://www.dictionary.com and look up the word "debate"? In this technological age, there's really no excuse for using words incorrectly.

Deathstar
From your post, I am understanding that disagreement constitutes incivility. I don't remember using any of the names that you enumerate. Furthermore, how can you possibly hope to debate without generalization? A cowardly way indeed of shutting down an argument. You must admit that extrapolation is the only way you can hope to conduct a discussion. Otherwise it becomes anecdotal, or argument by exception. Debate rules 101.

I personal, ad hominem attacks on either side are uncalled for. I have noticed, across the political forums, that liberals far exceed conservatives in the viciousness, personal nature, and vulgarity of their attacks. That is not to say that those attacks are the sole purview of liberals...simply that they are quite a bit nastier.

I will have to stop by the forum that you mention. I am curious as to the political tone that it takes. One of the reasons I so enjoy TH is that there is a lot of debate. If the forum you mention is quiet merely because there is agreement, then it would be terribly dull.

Finally, this is an editorial site. It does not claim to provide international news. These are political pundits who are paid to provide opinions. I do NOT come to Townhall to get my news, so I don't know how you could deducse that posters here are not seeking alternate sources of news.

Doro
" Furthermore, how can you possibly hope to debate without generalization? "

Doro, you obviously never took debate 101. Generalizations dilute meaning, release fog, and end genuine debate. "All liberals are socialist," "All feminists are sex-crazed" "all gays are sinful, preverted pederasts" are all generalizations I've seen over and over again on TH.

Sorry, there's no way to debate or respond. Generalizations are just stupid and are used to take the place of precision and accuracy.

my 2 cents
The fact that on Sept 16 rev (?) wright gave a sermon in which he said that America had it comming is NOT going to go away.

Nor should it.

question
In the days following America's darkest day, would it not be the case that every man or woman who stepped up to a dais to comment about what had happened a few days before, would talk FROM HIS HEART about what happened? No matter what other fine things Rev. Wright is accused of having done why should that sermon NOT stand out?
And how can ANYONE believe that Obama did not know about that sermon, no matter w

QUESTION PT. 2
here he was when it was given?

If he can make anyone with a mind believe that he didn't know about that speech, then he stands alone in the liars' hall of fame, and the dynamic duo of Bill and the Hill shrink in awe of him.

Deathstar
Generalizations do not reflect, ipso facto, a totality. Quite the contrary...its definition is to infer from many particulars. Within debate, it is understood that a generalization is the reflection of a majority with exceptions. Really not a difficult concept. How can you not generalize within a discussion? Some examples:

"Conservatives tend to be pro-life" (we all know there are exceptions
"Christians pray to God" (again, there are plenty of self-called Christians who don't bother)
"Liberals will vote for Clinton or Obama" (note: there will be exceptions even to this one!)

In other words, you would get hopelessly mired in painful word play if you could not use the tool of generalization. I.e.: "Conservatives, with the exception of Joe, Mary, Bill and Sam who have more libertarian views; Susan, Kyle and Jeff, who are in college so are more vulnerable; etc.etc. believe that marijuana should remain illegal."

Pot and Kettle
Wright and NYT are proverbial pot-and-kettle!

Deathstar
Using your approach , how are we to characterize "GOD d*** American!" ?

I will define what goes on at TH more of a dialog or perhaps a "townhall" where all who wish to speak may do so if they follow the ground rules.

Is that so hard a forum to deal with?

The man's hypocracy is beyond belief!
So the Times is guilty of:
"..one of the biggest misrepresentations of the truth I have ever seen in sixty-five years.."

I guess he doesn't look in the mirror when he accuses America of being responsible for AIDS.

Why is Barack Obama running for Pres?
Why is Barack Obama running for President?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler in Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best; still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) meanwhile he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well puts the qualifications issue to rest.

Obama is two faced
If Obama knew that he was going to have to distance himself from his Pastor, it is obvious that he knew his views wasn't going to be liked by a lot of people. He has the same views as his Pastor. Whether this reporter printed the wrong veiws that Wright has, his ranting and raving that we saw on TV can not be mistaken. Neither can his other followers. Wright is making a liar of himself when he tries to say that he doesn't agree with him. Even during segregation, I never heard a White preacher talk the way Wright did. There may have been some that did, but I sure would not have gone back to a church like that. Most people have learned not to judge a person for the color of their skin. Rev. Wright and his followers have probably set things back for a lot of people. The attitude of so many Blacks that want him in office no matter what, shows how they feel. Put a Conservative Black person as a candidate, that has the right views on living that I used to think that the majority of Americans wanted and I will certainly vote for him. There is no one running that I want to vote for.

Rev. Wright Blasted the NYT's
Jeremiah Wright,Jr. is blind in one eye and can't see out the other. First, to say the NYT's is a Republican ragsheet is the funnest thing I've heard lately.

I agree with the poster who pointed out all the great information that can be used in 527 ads. And it SHOULD be used as Obama himself said "words matter." And the words of his pastor, spiritual mentor of 20 years SHOULD matter. The very fact that Wright knew he would become a problem for Senator Obama is evidence that he knew "we" the people, would not care for his anti-American, racist and radical "words." He doesn't even sound like a man of God, he even said in the pulpit, "God wouldn't like this S--T" NO pastor or priest I've ever heard spoke like that....or said "God Damn American." He is angry because of his own guilt and duplicity.

I have no problem with Obama being Black, or going to an all Black Church and would never use race as a reason to pick or not pick a person for President. (Tho evidently many African-Americans do just that.) I DO have a problem with Wright's Church. I want to know what a "non-negotiable" commitment to Africa and NO mention of a commitment to America means. I do under stand why African-Americans would be attracted to the Afro-Centrist Church community. I do understand Black Liberation theology. Jesus NEVER spoke about being a Savior to just one race above any other. He was a Savior of any one race, but of all of mankind. He also never said we should be 'Robin Hoods' and steal from the rich to give to the poor so we could force ecomomical parity. Black Liberation Theoleogy is based on Marxism and if that is what Obama believes then we certainly do not need him as our president.

afro-centric america haters
obama knew of the teaching of his church and pastor so he swept them aside. why? he states he didn't hear any racist hatefilled sermons, so why push Jeremiah under the rug?
these actions make no sense unless what?

The sad thing is that even with all your facts BO is ahead of HRC in the national polls right now. It amazes me how the Dems can tolerate racism when it's one of their own. Can you imagine what would have happened if McCain went to a racist church?

Word fun.

Not all noun modifiers end in -ly.

Such as "My house was infested, with roachesly, ladygugsly, and grubsly." Maybe 'Ovenly baked bread' may strike your fancy. Oops 'ovenly, baked bread.'

Wright's letter to NYT, 2007
Why didn't the NYT column and Wright's reply get the kind of airplay in 2007 that the Obama/Wright connection got last month?

It would have done a lot of good then, before the Obama Image was so imprinted in the public mind as "post-racial" "unifying good guy" "idealist above politics". Instead, the story broke to the General Public after super tuesday and Barack had piled up his misbegotten delegates.
