Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

AMES, IOWA -- A Des Moines Register poll put Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee ahead longtime Iowa favorite Mitt Romney, but Romney told Iowans he was the best candidate to take both Iowa and New Hampshire Tuesday.

“It’s going to be important that we get a nominee who can play in each of these states and isn’t a one hit wonder,” Romney said. Romney didn’t mention the former Arkansas governor by name, but was likely referring to Huckabee, who is his chief opponent in Iowa and plays guitar in a band called Capital Offense.

The Register poll was released late Monday evening. A CNN Iowa poll released the same day, however, put Romney 3 points ahead of Huckabee. In New Hampshire, The Real Clear Politics poll average only gives Huckabee 10.3 percent, while Romney enjoys a 29.3 percent average, the highest of all the Republican presidential candidates in the Granite State.

“When we started this campaign, in February I guess, we were only supported by a few percentage points of folks here in Iowa and here I am neck and neck running for the top spot,” Romney said at a campaign stop in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. “And in New Hampshire, by the way, I’m also running for top spot. Against someone else. It’s a different lineup in New Hampshire, but I’m going to be strong in each of these states.”

While Romney was aggressively practicing the sort of retail, ?living room? politics Iowans value, Huckabee was planning to leave the Hawkeye state early Wednesday for a West Coast taping of the Jay Leno show.

Romney campaigned through the six different Iowan family homes New Years Day at events called “house party huddles.” The “huddles” were typically hosted by middle to upper class suburban families. One home featured a Reagan portrait on the wall. Another had several framed Bible passages. At one stop, the governor nearly tripped over the family dog that had a flag-themed bandana around its neck.

All houses offered heavy appetizers the kitchen and were outfitted with a microphone sound system for the Governor to use. The crowds ranged roughly from 30-80 supporters at each house and people crammed with reporters and cameramen into hallways, spilled out of dens and sat cross-legged on floors to listen to Romney speak.

The Governor finished the day with an evening speech at the Olde Main restaurant in Ames, Iowa—the city where he overwhelmingly won the GOP’s August 11 straw poll.

At each stop, Romney gave a slightly different variation of a 15 minute speech that emphasized the threat of radical Islam, lower taxes, free market healthcare, a crackdown on illegal immigration and family stability.

Romney’s son Craig, the young father of the Governor’s grandson Parker Mitt Romney joined him at these events. Standing in Iowan living rooms, Craig lightly bragged how much Parker enjoyed shaking hands at campaign events and how proud he was of his father.

The day before Romney stormed Iowa living rooms, Huckabee gave national media a sneak peek look at a negative ad against Romney that Huckabee claimed was too hard-hitting to run—a campaign trick considered “too clever by half” by many reporters in the room.

Romney responded to the Huckabee’s faux ad at an impromptu press conference held in the basement of a family home in Johnston, Iowa.

“It reminds you a bit of a person who would stand up and say ‘I’m not going to call my opponent any names, but here are the names I would call him if I were going to call him names” Romney said. “What he did yesterday didn’t fool the media and it won’t fool the people of Iowa either.”

Ask yourself . . .
based on the behavior of Mitt and Huck over the last 3 days, which one do you think is feeling good about his prospects?

Mitt has had an awfully big smile on his face these last three days. It seems almost effortless right now.

Meanwhile, Huckabee is fighting for his dear political life and can't seem to get a gauge on the wind . . . doesn't know what he should do, or when he should do it . . .

I liked Huck before he started with his two-faced routine. I might be able to hold my nose and vote for him in a general if the alternative was socialism (as opposed to his big-government populism), but fortunately I don't think it will come to that.

Word is that his support is crumbling once again over these recent gaffes (he lost almost 10 points over the last 2 weeks . . . the trends are bad for him).

It wasn't Romney's pointing out Huck's record that did this, it was Huck's not-ready-for-prime-time-deliveries that kept bungling it up.

Mitt's got the momentum, up 8 points in the last two weeks (Huckabee down 10 points over the same period). It will be close, but in a statistical dead heat, with momentum behind Mitt, and Mitt's superior organization, Mitt will pull it out. And by a little more than some might think.

Still, it will be reasonably close.

Hypocrite= Huckabee
I dont know any other word to characterize Huckabee's latest actions in the past 3 weeks but he's a hypocrite. During the Meet the Press interview, he already started throwing negatives at Romney and how could he try to be so nice at ads when he already started dropping bombs at him? He is strange fella who cant understand himself.

Mitt
Yuckabee lost me when I found out he had been cited 14 times for ethics violations by Arkansas's ethics committee. He coped to 6 of those....Do Iowans know this? Right up there with Hillary, Rudy and others on Judicial Watch's top er...bottom 10 list.

How many times was Romney called on the carpet for bad behavior in Mass....Zero! That's real authenticity! Pulling for Mitt from Northern California!

Its competence, stupid!
In the 90's it was the economy that James Carville won on for his candidate. This decade its competence. I hope Mitt Romney will stay on this message. Its the winning one.

Huckabee has shown his true stripes with a career of corruption and cheap tricks like this last negative add. Don't wallow on the ground with such candidates.

Romney is so far sticking to issues but he needs to bring the focus back to his competency in leading enterprises. Yes, its good to point to differences on the issues. But it is even better to distinguish oneself as capable, competent, and talented.

No one can hold a candle to Romney on his intelligence and ability to lead.

Romney
Romney is a class act. Huck called him a liar on national TV for running a comparison ad about some (not most) of Huck's current or past positions.

In return Huck pulls one of the biggest mistakes of the campaign by claiming his was for attack ads just before he decided to be against his attack ad. However, he had to have a news conference to show the media that attack ad to make sure the media understood he wanted the campaign to take a positive direction.

I wonder if Leno will say anything about the attack ad conference. How about Letterman?

Huck is not ready for prime time. However, he is creating a lot of fodder for the late night joke shows.

Romney is the only possible conservative
What a candidate says at election time can only be understood in the context of what he said in previous elections and then what he did in office.

Its not that Romney with his liberal past should be allowed to have it both ways. The stark reality is that among the top tiers, he is the one and only candidate that understands both ways. Romney was a liberal and articulated liberal positions very well as governor of Mass. But now he is aticulating conservative positions on taxes, abortion, gay marriage, Iraq, and you name it. The point is he is the only candidate that seems to able to articulate what it means to be a Republican. All the other top tiers are liberals and still sound with a differenc here or there like liberals.

John Paul is the only candidate who is a true constitutionalist through and through. There is the question in regard to Paul of whether he has any administrative executive experience. Romney has run successful businesses and held an elective executive position. This is very important because regardless of what you believe it takes learned skills to put your beliefs into operation. Its not that Romney is a tried and true conservative. The truth is, Romney is the only possible conservative with any chance of winning.

Romney is a liar
and will betray anyone's issues for his own personal gain.

Please take a few seconds to watch this.
This video is very good and shows Mitt Romney's going back and forth on the abortion issue.

Romney was for it big time, then against it, then for it, then against it.

It is interesting for people to see that he has claimed to change to being pro-life before, only to return to being pro-choice when it would help him out politically.

Watch the video please.

I went to youtube and saw what I heard over the years. I voted for Mitt as governor of Mass. I believed he would be a staunch conservative. I was wrong. He'll be glad to tell you he put the budget back in order without raising taxes, true. The problem is that nurses, fishermen, auto owners, home owners and builders know how he did it. He raised the fee on every license or permit issued by the state! Oh boy, what a conservative.

He abandoned the state halfway throughj his term to travel about the country and establih his run for POTUS. He did nothing to support his female Lt. Gov. when she ran to succeed him. Ms. Healy might have made a good Gov., but we will never know..............thanks Mitt.

He is a very capable individual, but I don't trust him.

Oh, don't ask him about his role in the "big dig" (the biggest rip off of the US taxpayer in history and now Mass. residents are still paying for it.)

Go Fred; at least his statements are consistent with his columns and history.

Mitt Romney The Anti-Reagan
Mitt Romney is a man who "fought conservatives" during the 80s and 90s and even up until 2006 when he made abortion a taxpayer funded health care benefit in Massachusetts.

Endorsed by Ted Kennedy, Mitt Romney's state-controlled "Commonwealth Care" health plan for Massachusetts was signed into law by Governor Romney himself on 4/12/2006 making Massachusetts the first state ever to install a government-run universal healthcare system.

Yes, the first governor to install universal Healthcare with taxpayer funded abortions is also the first governor to install gay marriage.

"I was an Independent during the time of Reagan/Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan Bush!"

-Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney made this revealing statement in 1994 a full six years after Reagan left office in 1988. Mitt Romney was Anti-Reagan/Bush all during the 80's and 90's while himself holding extremist liberal positions across the board on social issues -- including being the first governor in U.S. history to push and install gay marriage legislation... and now that he's running for President as a "Republican," suddenly Mitt Romney becomes a fan of Reagan? What a big phony Mitt Romney is! What a slimeball! This is a guy who as an adult supported Liberal Democratic Presidential candidates Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis and Paul Tsongas during the Reagan/Bush years.

Today Mitt Romney pays lip service to conservative positions while quietly pushing a liberal agenda through his hand-picked judicial appointments 75% of whom are known liberals, Democratic party activists, and left-leaning Independents.

The Truth Prevails So Mitt Wins!
Many are very happy with Mitt, and we will be happy with Mitt even if he loses Iowa. It has been difficult to separate the false beliefs form the truth, and the chaff from the wheat, and the Good people of Iowa will do their best to make the right choice.

When Is Honesty Dishonest?

This is not a paradox. It is a serious question concerning integrity and ethical, veracious communications and actions. It is about honest sincere perceptions and intent of the heart.

Intent is the key. Honesty becomes dishonest when a truth is used to exploit, distort, or used to mislead, or deceive, in order to take advantage.

Mitt did not lie. His ads present the track records and the positions, which Mike Huckabee and John Mc Cain have always defended. Their performance does not come close to Mitt Romney's and that is why his numbers are rising, because everyone is checking things out for themselves, on every candidate.

His ads actually are very kind, because it is helping voters to see that he is honest, practical and fare, while he is disciplined and organized, giving strong leadership, and he will not make a promise he will not keep, nor will he distort the truth. Be informed, Vote your Conscience.

Thompson/Hunter '08
then we all win.

TNboy You Are Not Gaining Support
for your cause by continuing in the offensive and angry name calling. You and your candidate need to grow up and quit acting like my little sister did when we were kids. Adults talk calmly about issues and make their case with out being nasty. I suspect Huck, Ron Paul and McCain will be distant history in a few days largely because they can’t control their tempers and turn into whiners. We can’t have a president that is an angry whiner every time someone makes them angry. Think about it!

ONIL

"" He is a strange fella who can't understand himself."" (referring to Hucklebee)

I love this line. This has got to be one of the most open and judicious descriptions of the Huckster anyone could reasonably put in to words.

You definitely win today's door prize and maybe the big one for the week.

TNboy

Have you ever met a Reverend you didn't like.??.

If you get Reverend Hucklebee for prez, not a chance in the general elections, you will have found a Reverend you don't like.

MITT ROMNEY USES BIGOTRY AGAINST HUCK!!!
He continues to talk about how Huckabee use to be a pastor and christian leader (even though Huckabee focuses on his record as governor). then rehearses it as if Christians should not be in public office. Romney is clearly anti-christian and a hateful person.

Romney v Huckabee
There are more reasons than one why the NCLB is "not working" in Arkansas: 1. The AEA does NOT want it to work; 2. Teachers UNPREPARED for teaching; 3. Failed SCHOOLS because of UNPREPARED teachers; 4. VOUCHER problems for students in FAILING SCHOOLS; 5. UNPREPARED teachers who continue claiming NCLB does NOT work; 6. DROPOUTS in SCHOOLS where UNPREPARED TEACHERS continue TESTING for the NCLB TEST rather than TEACH when they are UNPREPARED to TEACH; 7. HUCK had too many illegal aliens in the Arkansas schools. The above is why the NCLB doe not work. The same NCLB tests are administered in SCHOOLS where STUDENTS PASS the NCLB and ALL agree the students are much better prepared to advance to the next level.

The reason everything went wrong is exactly what Mitt Romney said, HUCK. It was the President's fault for NOT firing Rumsfeld and the top Generals who did not manage the wars bafore, during and after dragging down Saddam, HUCK. There was only one General in the beginning who wanted more than 250,000 to go to war...he was fired.

Here's some real news about the REAL HUCKABEE. Please see the links below.

Romney Hits Huck, Over and Over and Over
Yeah, the headline of the article says, "Romney hits Huck." That is what Mean Mitt does best. Mitt is starting to seem narcisscistic with a nasty control streak that cries, "I will not be denied no matter what I have to do." I am sticking with the gold standard of Iowa polling, The Des Moines Register Poll. Comparing their recent poll to their one last month, Huck gained ground on Mitt, from five to six points.

Mike Huckabee Wins My Vote on Life
Mike Huckabee has always been for the santity of life. He has never, ever wavered. That's a fact and no one can dispute it.

Mitt was for abortion, then against it, then for it, then against it. Thats a fact and no one can dispute it.

When Mike Huckabee becomes President I know in my sole of soles he will nominate Supreme Court Justices for the santity of life.

If Mitt is there I keep thinking - In Mass. as govenor he signed into law a bill that allows every, yes every woman in Mass. to get an abortion for $50.00. Because he signed the bill abortions are now being done in Mass. almost for free every day. Why did Mitt do such a thing if he's against abortion?

I honestly don't know what type of Supreme Court Justice Mitt would Nominate when it comes to santity of life. This concerns me deeply.

I choose to go with a man I know will be on the side of the unborn child. I choose Mike Huckabee.

ProfessorX
Are you saying that formal education is not necessary for the President of the United States? Huckabee appears to have had an excellent education for being a televangelist---four years of undergraduate at a small Christian college in the South, and "attendance" (he did not graduate) at a theological seminary. That doesn't qualify him for being President, and saying that it doesn't doesn't mean that we hate televangelists or ministers or Christians. Why don't you apprentice as a butcher then try to get on as a surgeon at a hospital. Or become a CPA and then try to get hired as an engineer.

The President of the United States needs to know the law, economics, foreign policy, and issues of domestic social policy. We have now had seven years of Amateur Night featuring a committed Christian. We need a professional in the job.

Jim
in your sole of soles? Or souls?

The laws on abortion can be changed but once the illegals are given amnesty our country will be lost forever. Mitt 'gets it' and has a chance to win in November. Huck and Mccain, Rudy can't be trusted and Fred can't win.

Who could pssibly trust Huck who has been cited 14 times for ethics violations by Arkansas's ethics committee?

Election
The biggest problem in this election is making certain that we do not vote for socialism - which is Hillary - the biggest threat and also Edwards. Both want to give all those who subscribe to the dole (welfare) continued support. Amnesty (illegals now get billions of your taxpayer dollars) healthcare etc. Taxes will be raised and the giveway program will only increase. Can you actually imagine Hillary (who continually lies but is never called on it) negotiating with terrorist leaders? I believe it is time to look for leadership and scrutinize the candidates past and future platform. Jacy

Hi JimM
spelling corrections for you:

santity is sanctity
sole is soul.

Just thought you might like to know.

JimM

Now Jim, "soles" are what you have for your feet or shoes.
Souls are what you meant, didn't you.??. Well I have never made a mistake, oops, I believe, not more than once or twice a day on my good days. Still your opinion of Hucklebee, the polite way to say his name, is still alterable isn't it.??.

Or do you plan to change your opinion when and if he should become president.??. Because change your tune is a fact if you ever were to see him in the oval office for more than an hour.

Lord save us from fools. They were made that way so as to facilitate the wolves who would eat them. Is that, God, part of Your plan.??.

Romney negative
All Romney does is run negative ads. What a guy. What a great liberal President he will make. He lies about Huckabee to keep people from looking at his own pathetic liberal record. He's still liberal, just listen to him. The only ones for him are not looking at his record or listening to him.

Romney a walking contradiction
For all those who are supporting Romney on this site, how can you trust this sleazy used car salesman? And how do you know what he is selling you?
Romney is fake, he's a grifter and totally untrustworthy.
He is clearly the worst candidate and everything he does leaves a bad taste.

Massachusett's favorite sone Mitt
-- I am pro-choice, now I'm pro-life

-- I am more pro-homosexual rights than my Democrat opponent, now I've "rethought" that position as well..

Who am I?

Massachusett's favorite Barbie Doll son should be the least favorite son for the Republicans. He is a fraud.

Send the plastic man back to Boston.

King Liberal
Who do you support? Dennis Kucinich the UFO Loony Moonbat? Hillary the Experienced Liar? Hussein Obama the Talk Show Host Puppet? John the Hair Stylist Edwards? They are all such enticing candidates who embrace income re-distribution, social engineering, affirmative action, government entitlements, political correctness, culture war, and secularism.

PC Sorry
King Lib is right about spelling correction.
We all make mistakes, especially while multi-tasking. Unless it makes the post unreadable or its so bad that it is ridiculous don't worry about it.

Confused
If Romney's Mass Healthcare plan is a free market one, as he claims, why then are the costs to the state increasing and why is the Boston Globe already howling about increasing insurance premiums? Please Mitt, if elected don't do for America what you've done for Mass.

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/editori als/articles/2008/01/01/eight_wishes_for_08/

There are a few reasons to vote for Mitt; first among them being Anne would make a great First Lady.

Romney a conservative? Yeah right!
If Romney is so conservative (pick your kind, social, fiscal, defense), how did he manage to get elected Governor in one of the most liberal Democratic States in the country, where "Republicans now make up 12.5 percent of the state's voters, ... according to the data released by the Secretary of State's office. When the state elected Romney, a Republican, in 2002, the GOP made up 13.4 percent of the electorate." Boston Globe, 11/2/2006, "GOP ranks dropped by 31,000 since state elected Romney." He must have pleased alot of Democrats to get elected.

Mitt Romney, all the way!
We don't need Devious, or Hot Temper or Easy-Does-It as our next President. We need a grown up in the White House. Go Mitt!

Iowa voters
You can either make a wise choice or make yourselves the laughingstocks of the nation. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for "I want to embarrass myself in front of the whole nation". This guy is a complete not-ready-for-prime-time buffoon. You just can't enough lipstick on that pig.

It's your choice Iowa. Select a decent candidate like Hunter, Romney or Thompson or embarrass yourselves. My suggestion is you have a little pride and not embarrass yourselves as a bunch of back woods hayseed hillbillies. That's what the press thinks about you and that's why they have been carrying Huckabee's water for him. They look down on you and want you to vote for this joker in order to prove their impressions of you to the whole nation.

Romney a conservative? Yeah right!

Pro-Romney Articles: 5 Pro-Huckabee 0
The lack of balance on this site is astounding.

There is not a single attempt to give a voice to Huckabee supporters.

However, that are at least 5 or 6 anti-Huckabee/pro-Romney articles.

If the "punditry class" of conservative movement treat Huckabee as the liberal mainstream press does, there will be a long-term political price to pay.

Tweedle Dumb & Tweedle Dumber
While I am not a Mitt Romney fan, I am smart enough to see that Huckabee is about as phony as Barack Husein Obama. The Huckster is like a balloon filled with hot air. Once the air is gone; what do you have left? Nothing but an empty bag.

Every day it becomes more obvious why Ron Paul is the only real American in the race. If those of you who, along with the others who believe he is unelectable, would vote for him, he would win handily.

Momentum
The latest IA tracking poll show gains for Romney, Thompson and Ron Paul. McCain is neutral and Huck is moving down.

Pro-Romney Articles: 5 Pro-Huckabee 0
[Responding to David Ziegler 10:45am]

If you compare Huck's & Romney's records, you will see astoundingly that one is much more conservative than the other.

Non-conservative candidates tend to get less coverage on townhall than conservative ones.

There's your explanation. Once that was discovered, the Huck downsurge began about a week ago. Look at Huck's record and you'll see what I'm talking about.

ex-Wyomingite
Interesting analysis. Assuming this is true, why would the true Republicans want to encourage the single-issue (abortion) minded voters into their midst? As you stated, during the good times where the candidate is a strong supporter of the issue then things work out. For instance do you think GW would have won 2004 without this block of voters?

It seems to me that many people here in the conservative oasis of TH are quite willing to throw this group of voters under the bus and then expect them to be grateful for belonging and support whoever is selected. If the GOP cannot win without this block of voters then an acceptable candidate had better be nominated.

I am not sure that Romney provides the assurance of his true beliefs.

No Duncan Hunter Articles?
Come on. There have been at least 10 pro-Huckabee articles and not a single pro-Hunter article. Talk about bias!

Maybe the reason Huck doesn't get the positive coverage you are looking for is that serious conservative writers DO NOT like him. We could go down the list of people who have come out against the guy.

There is no conspiracy here. Huckabee just isn't well liked.

An Honest Politician, this is new :-)
Huckababee's cheerleaders make me laugh :-)

Huck said: "if someone is dishonest in his resume to get a job, then he would be probably dishonest in the job" or something like this.

And he said it with a straight face too!

So is someone can tell a lie to cover his weaknesses with a straight face, if someone can joke about a serious question because he doesn't know the answer, if someone can tell he has a degree in Theology when in fact he attended only 46 hours of seminary, if someone tells he spent $30,000 for an add but never intended to spend that money or didn't have it in the first place, if someone has a not so honest past as a Governor with gifts and furnitures that do not belong to him, if someone is soft on crime as a Governor even pardonning criminals, if someone can be negative on Meet the Press toward another candidate but also tell he wants to run a positive campaign.... should I continue?

Then what can we expect from this man if he get the job?

You can tell that Huck was not prepared to apply for this job; first he doesn't have the qualifications. I think he never in his wildest dreams thought that he could be # 1 in Iowa; he got caught with his pants down; with no money, no trained staff and he's a one man show.

Perhaps he should apply to replace Jay Leno and he may be doing a good job at that.... but do I trust him with nuclear weapons??? HUCK NO !!!!

DESPERATE Huck turns VIOLENT WHOA

SO DESPERATE: the liberal HUCK in A Preachers
cloak has turned to PERSONAL VIOLENCE:

IF ROLLINS were my campaign manager he would have been FIRED for even thinking PERSONAL violence against a RIVAL

BUT DESPERATE HUCK is endorsing personal assault by keeping ROLLINS

that is beyond demented

Huckabee
Huckabee combines the worsy traits of Bill Clinton and Michael Dukakis.

If you want to know how Michael Huckabee is similar to Michael Dukakis, google "Wayne DuMond".

Republicans need a nominee who
can unite the center-right, and Romney can't do it. Americans won't give the whitehouse to this lying, conservative-wanna-be-can't-tell-a-straight-story republican! Romney is right, IA should not vote for a one time candidate in a one time state....IA should vote for a person who can actually win the general election. Romney, news flash! 48% of americans won't vote for you under any circumstances....so there!

No Way
no way I can vote for someone who is Southern Baptist. I don't trust them. Carter was SBC. clinton was SBC. Oh, and let's add that Huck was a TV preacher. "Send me your money, I will pray for you, the man on TV say AMEN. The more you send, the more you will be blessed. The man on TV say AMEN" - Jean luc song. Don't trust men who make a living off God.

Huckster
Who could pssibly trust Huck who has been cited 14 times for ethics violations by Arkansas's ethics committee?

If the Dem candidate is Hillary
I think just about any Republican can win, because they ALL look good compared to her. Romney changed his position on some issues, but he didn't vote for the war before he was against it, and his personal life is squeaky clean. McCain - he's a war hero, and, while he supported stuff like McCain-Feingold, he's been consistently pro-life and is supported by budget hawks like Phil Gramm. Fred Thompson - he has gravitas and a sense of humor, plus he's the real deal on the issues.

The only problems for the GOP might be Rudy and Huckabee. Rudy because his personal life is as bad if not worse than Bill Clinton's, plus he's pro-choice. Huckabee because he's a fiscal liberal and he's so religious he will scare off independents.

I'm a Christian, I would prefer a Christian, but I don't want a candidate who makes religion a big issue. I mean, even Bill Clinton did that - he was always going to church when a scandal hit. Huck gives me the same feeling. It smacks of hypocrisy to me.

That being said, I do think the Republicans need to elect a pro-life candidate, even one who is recently pro-life like Romney. The GOP needs to reach out to their entire base with a candidate that is fiscally conservative, strong on the war on terror AND pro-life and pro-family.

There is a definite trend here......

After reading numerous posts, I have noticed that the "violent" shreiking Huckster defenders are primarily women, no offense, and liberals.

Clinton and the Huckster always won Arkansas with the black and women's vote. Guess the little ladies, some of them, like to be lied to. Not true.??. Then wake up and smell the coffee, cause the liberals never ever will, little ladies.

You definitely have an education and use it well in your writing. Wish I had the patience to do the same. I do try to not lose my patience, but you know the story. Anyway you definitely have a place reserved for you on TH.

Thank you for your input.

King Liberal

I appreciate what you said about not correcting someone's spelling. Personally, I occasionally correct word use, with some misgivings for doing so, but there is also a thing called, help the other guy to a better vocabulary. Usually we correct the misuse of words, not the spelling. We all get lost sometimes and say, your when we mean you're. Only when the misuse is obvious does anyone give a speeding ticket for the small offense of misuse.

Now that said, I have two more.

One: your writing is good and not filled with faults of grammar.

Two: when ever you look at the liberal columns, ie., Moveon.com or similar, you find the worst writing on the internet. Those people, largely, not all, never got or cared for an education.

That tells us a lot about the average liberal and even those of them on the internet. They make conservatives look like educated choir boys.

Maybe you are in the wrong camp with the liberals and just haven't figured it out yet. Give it some thought. We are still praying and making best wishes for Lilly and her cognizance. You are both reasonably educated as are a number of liberals. Now all you(plural) need is real world experience and reasoning power. It's not genetic you know, or is it.??.

I continue to agree with your analysis (at least to a point.)

The social conservatives do tend to receive a lot of lip service from the GOP, but since we tend to turn the other cheek why not. I do think Alito and Roberts will turn out okay, and the PBA ban was a good step in the right direction.

The fiscal conservatives certainly have significant reason for distrust over the current flock of GOP office holders.

However, when it comes down to November I think the fiscal conservatives will pull the lever for the party no matter what - remember Dole.

I am not sure about the social conservatives. Let the screeching begin, all of you whiners that will try and berate us into agreement...

Solution - nominate a solid fiscal conservative who is unwavering in the pro-life area. If he/she is solidly against gay marriage all the better. I know the other issues are important, but obviously Tancredo shows that immigration is not enough to get into the top tier, and who honestly thinks any Republican (excluding RP) is going to be soft on terrorism.

Romney does not fit this description, so lets move on ;) I have begun to wonder if McCain might be a reasonable compromise.

To conclude this missive. If Romney or Guiliani are nominated the social conservatives will probably not scream or shout, but rather will be just a little bit more passive than they have been recently. Some will not campaign and others will not vote at all. The end result will be a Democrat in the WH. This is not the end of the world for someone who believes that God directs the heart of the king.

Mike Chucklebee
How has he made it this far? He was only elected here because he was the opposite of Bill Clinton..and we really needed that at the time! But Mike don't get carried away! Mike what did you ever do here besides bury the stories when you son got into trouble? Oh yeah Mike..what was in that locker in that school..where the Little Rock 7 dodged the rocks and insults? Hmmm? Moving East over to LRI right past the swamp..how did he forget he had a gun it there? Mike you would have drawn and quartered me for either of these!

Never let a Governor from Arkansas go any further than that!

Romney's Reasons...
To Pinto. I repeat from an earlier post why Romney is our man...e

Behavior, far more than word, tells me what is really in the heart of person. “Show me the money”, that’s my thinking. Talk is cheap! Very Cheap! And with that in mind, this is what I found when I went looking for Mitt Romney’s behaviors…

I found a man who has pledged to forego his salary as President of the United States and who refused the same as Mass’s. Governor. Imagine, the president as a true public servant…..have we ever had a president do this before? I find it supremely refreshing.

I found a man who recently spent a free Saturday morning in October helping San Diego fire victims, without so much as a word to the press? Chopping down trees and cleaning up “thy neighbor’s” property.

I find a man who once shut down his private business, and paid his staff to search for the missing daughter of one of his employees? No questions or expectations, just “let’s go find her”! No one was watching and no one was listening. What does this say about the man?

I found a man who has been loyal, faithful and true to his one wife and love for 38 years.

I found a man who donated thousands of hours per year to his church congregation over many years, without pay...no compensation.

Finally, I find a candidate who routinely turns organization’s fiscal mismanagement into economic victory for the company and its employees and interests. And he does so without anyone ever hinting about his ethics. No Enron, no Whitewater, no Halliburton.

I am left to conclude that it is only actions I can measure, and behaviors I can assess. From this standpoint, my choice for president is so easy. It's Romney by a mile!

Romney is a no hit loser
so he has to try and drag everyone down with him. He is the illustration of the demise of the republican party.

ex-Wyomingite - 3
I had not expected a running conversation...

So does my social conservatism show that much...

I apologize if my posts have taken a "it's all about me" tone...

That being said, I agree that Clinton should be pretty easy no matter who is nominated - wait a second, I think we said that in '96. In fact, I think this may be the delusion that a lot of fiscal conservatives are swimming in. We don't need the christians this time, because we can beat Clinton with one hand tied behind our backs. A 25% drop in the conservative Christian vote will be very difficult to overcome. As I stated earlier if Romney or Guiliani are nominated by the GOP I don't think there will be much motivation seen by just enough to lose, remember Ohio alone was enough to change the 2004 election.

So lets say the Dems get tricky and put in Obama. Again, if the social conservatives have been vilified by the true blue Republicans during the primaries I don't think there will be an opportunity for reconciliation.

The conservative talking heads have never been kind toward Huckabee, but when the Romney ads went negative it took a lot of people by surprise. I will admit that Reagan did the same thing to Bush in '84, BUT he was viewed as unwavering in the pro-life area.

To win the general election - the negative campaigns need to stop now!! Have a huge love fest, and then stick to issues.

As far as having a candidate that can pull in the moderates after the nomination - I think Huckabee has already spoken on several issues where his views are closer to the squishy middle.

Where's the perfect candidate?
Would the 'real' perfect presidential candidate please stand up?

I've read comment after comment criticizing and focusing on the negative of one candidate or another. The bottom line is there is no perfect candidate. Stop looking for him/her and stop expecting it - you're not going to find it. As long as you have human beings running for president, you're going to have to deal with a fallible being.

So the real question is, who of all the candidates is best qualified to lead our nation for at least the next 4 years and has the least number of weaknesses that really matter? I still haven't learned enough about each candidate to be certain, but if I had to vote today, I'd say Romney has the most skills we need to help lead this nation. Sure, Huckabee might be better at a few things here and there, but overall, Romney has more education, experience, and skill than any of the other candidates I'm familiar with. Unless someone can show me I'm wrong, I'll be voting for Romney.

Huckabee
If you don't know about the NAU then please research it. It is real and happening. And Huckabee just hired the Pres of the CFR who is has been behind the NAU for many years, as his advisor. This NAU will destroy Americans. Texans are already fighting to keep the government from taking their land by imminent domain for the super highway from Mexico to Canada. Please educate yourself on the NAU before making a decision on who you vote for.
To me it is looking more like Fred Thompson may be the choice.
I am not going to vote for a man who said God is giving us another chance to help the illegals. We all know that any person that is for amnesty is saying that only for Mexican votes and/or big business. They don't care about illegals. If they did they wouldn't have let them be exploited for slaves wages all these years. And they don't care that the scab illegals are taking Americans jobs for lower wages.
Why is John McCain still in the running when he tells us how much he cares about the illegals?

Huckabee
Huckabee has voted against all kinds of ways to help animals. He does not care about animals. Probably why his son hung one and stoned it and slit its throat. I am an animal lover. I know there are a lot of people who don't want pets and that is fine. But most of these people do not want to see amimals tortured. Bill Clinton got a dog to improve his image. But gee, the dog got loose from a gated house guarded by FBI agents and got run over. And I own the Brooklyn Bridge.

Huckabee
Huckabee voted against every bill that came up to protect animals. Probably the reason why his son hung a dog and stoned and stabbed it. I am an animal lover. I realize there are plenty of people who don't have pets but even they don't want to see animals tortured.

Christian “LEADER”?
“Ladies and gentlemen of the press, I have called you here today to announce that I am tired of my opponent attacking my record. I have spent the last five days attacking his character, but that was not enough.

Although I have spent $30,000 to make an attack ad, I want you to know that I am too nice to really use it.

However, I know you will ask me to see it and if I say “NO” you will laugh and not believe really I have it, so just this once I will show it to you.

By the way, if the other candidates don’t follow my leadership, I will resume my attack ads after Iowa. Thank you for the free press."

ROMNEY HITS HUCK
GREAT!!! GO MITT!!!!

Huck the HUCKSTER is positioning himself for a REAL FALL. Better to get him "out of commission" NOW rather than "prolong the agongy" of watching the media PROP UP HUCKSTER. They KNOW he CANNOT WIN IN A GENERAL ELECTION!! It makes their LIBRAL JOB easier to have him the Republican Candiate!

Sorry to come down this way, but......

You need, I believe, to continue seeking. I don't think you have found what you would truly enjoy, appreciate or stand up for once, if ever, Mr Hucklebee was to be in office.

Remember in school, what they told us about crossing the street, stop, look and listen. Don't be an idiot and get run over, because that train you're waiting on is not going to stop for riders. It'll run right smack dab over your foot and won't say pardon me.

Don't be deaf man, the guy is as close to an idiot savant as an ex governor can be. Besides, with no intention of being harsh with the people of Arkansas, they are as backwards and full of it as their neighbors to the south, Louisiana. The Louisianans, maybe got smart this year and elected a real Republican, we hope.

Hucklebee is not a real Republican. Is that what you want.??. A poor excuse for what he claims to be. Or are you just anti-Mormon and be damned the country.??. That's the people who primarily concentrate on tearing him a new one. Say, who are you for, now that we know who you are against.??. I presume it might be the Huckster.

Romney Zombies.
Say what you will, Romney does not have any appeal to a massive group of normally GOP voting supporters.

You know the same group that has made the difference in electing a GOP president?

Now we have been betrayed by all of these fake conservatives and fake conservative media. Through out this primary we have seen a true hostility against us when all we are asking for is the values which are the only reason that we vote GOP in the first place.

Come tomorrow we shall see how many people want social conservative values most and how many people are wanting (what they think are) self serving interests most.

Just remember when you see the turnout, that these social conservatives who don't want Romney or Giuliani are the same people who make red states red and get GOP presidents elected. These are the same people that have been betrayed by all the fake conservatives and fake conservative media during this primary.

You're absolutely right...
...and I mean right in more ways than one. You're right in what you said, but you're also right in that you seem to hold the conservative position. Frankly, I don't understand why conservative talk shows, blogs and politicos have gone so GA-GA over Mitt Romney. Romney, another shifty-eyed politician from Massachusetts, was liberal when that served him well, but now wants us to believe he's a conservative because that helps him now. Fact is, Romney is more of a flip-flopper than John Kerry ever was (one of the main issues that killed his presidential aspirations -- something for those who think Romney could actually win in November should think about). Where is Romney's conservative record anyway? We're just left to believe he's a conservative now. If Mitt Romney is to have any credibility as a conservative, he should go back to Massachussetts and try to improve our cause there first.

The Left DOES Support the War?
From the pages of the LATEST Limbaugh Letter that arrived in my mailbox this morning.

Who said the following, a dimocrat or Al Qaeda?

"This is George Bush's war. He is responsible for this war. He starterd the war. He mismanaged the war. And he refuses to end the war."

Hillary Clinton 6/30/07

"[George W. Bush] will go down in history...as the President who emobroiled his nation in a series of unwinnable and bloody conflicts."

Al Qaeda Azzam al-Amriki 5/29/07

"[W]hat this 'global war on terror'...intended to do was for George Bush to use it to justify everything he does: the ongoing ware in Iraq, Guantanamo, Abu Graib torture."

John Edwards 6/30/07

"We know the cost of the war is going to exceed $2 trillion. We know that the [American] military is almost at its breaking point."

Harry Reid 12/3/07

"Victory is elusive. Victory is subjective. What does [President Bush] mean by 'victory'?"

Nancy Pelosi 11/08/06

These are just a "few" of the quotes from the EVER-SO supportive dims! It's dinner time, and my tummy is empty. Subscribe to the Limbaugh Letter if reading stuff like this floats-your-boat!

Romney
I'll tell yu what, a Romney-Thompson ticket would be the best one out there. Romney because he has the passion, skills, and experience in both business and government. And Thompson because we can trust him to keep Romney on the straight and narrow of true conservatism if anyone doubts whether Romney's changes are true or just for political expediency. Thompson doesn't have the fire in his belly for POTUS, but he'd make a great VP and together an unstoppable ticket.

Romney jurist picks not tilted to GOP
Conservative or Moderate?

BC-Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents — including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.

Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats.

With increased attention on judicial nominees after President Bush’s nomination of John G. Roberts Jr. to the US Supreme Court, Romney said Friday that he has not paid a moment’s notice to his nominees’ political leanings or sexual orientation — or to the impact his choices might have on a future presidential run. He said he has focused on two factors: their legal experience and whether the nominees would be tough on crime. He said most of the nominees have prosecutorial experience.

‘’People on both sides of the aisle want to put the bad guys away,” Romney said.

Huckabee is his own worst enemy...
Huckabee has lost any credibility he may have ever had with those of us who are Christians. His attack ad - “I'm innocent” ploy was just embarrassing to watch. I know it just reinforced my concerns about his true nature and motives (there have been too many backtracks and deer in the headlights, "Oh, did I offend? I didn't mean to," responses throughout his campaign). Also, Huckabee's obvious lack of substance or grasp of important facts (that as a presidential candidate should be down solid at this point) is unacceptable.

O.K…….let’s compare candidates....An evangelical pastor/entertainer (Huckabee) vs. an experienced, supremely intelligent presidential candidate (Romney). We are voting for a president to represent and run the most powerful country in the world. The future of America and the direction it is headed is an extremely important and serious matter. I want the best, most qualified person leading us, not a clownish amateur that doesn't have a clue. I can see why all the respected, true conservative talk show hosts, journalists, bloggers, etc. have come down so hard on Mike Huckabee and John McCain (have you read the list--including Rush Limbaugh's latest statements today) on Iowansforromney.com?). Huckabee's latest wacko mis-statements and publicity stunt fiasco on Monday just reiterates why I'm voting for competence. John McCain is just plain mean, a liberal and a MSM prop since Huckabee is no longer a viable glass house to put up against Hillary.

I really pray that Mitt Romney wins Iowa and New Hampshire---then goes the distance for the Republican nomination. He's what our country (and my family!) needs at this critical time.

Doc, I like your suggestion
as I think Hunter and Thompson are also good men. However, they just don't have the organization, appeal and momentum to go the distance and compete against Hillary or Obama. Mitt Romney does. With him driving the campaign, and either Thompson or Hunter as a Vice-Presidential candidate, I think that could be an unstoppable and very effective partnership.

"Slick" Romney: The Anti-Reagan
Mitt Romney is a man who "fought conservatives" during the 80s and 90s and even up until 2006 when he made Abortion a taxpayer funded health care benefit in his Massachusetts health care plan.

Endorsed by Ted Kennedy, Mitt Romney's state-controlled "Commonwealth Care" health plan for Massachusetts was signed into law by governor Romney himself on 4/12/2006 making Massachusetts the first state ever to install a government-run Universal Healthcare system.

Yes, the first governor to install Universal Healthcare with taxpayer funded Abortions is also the first governor to install Gay Marriage.

http://massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/health_ins/

"I was an Independent during the time of Reagan/Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan Bush!"

-Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney made this revealing statement in 1994 a full six years after Reagan left office in 1988. Mitt Romney was Anti-Reagan/Bush all during the 80's and 90's while himself holding extremist liberal positions across the board on social issues -- including being the first governor in U.S. history to push and install gay marriage legislation... and now that he's running for President as a "Republican," suddenly Mitt Romney becomes a fan of Reagan? What a big phony Mitt Romney is. His across the board liberal positions on social issues while governor of Massachusetts speaks volumes. What a fraud he is. This is a guy who as an adult supported Liberal Democratic Presidential candidates Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis and Paul Tsongas during the Reagan/Bush years.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Elx3UWmyAY4

Today Mitt Romney pays lip service to conservative positions while quietly pushing a liberal agenda through his hand-picked judicial appointments 75% of whom are known liberals, Democratic party activists, and left-leaning Independents.

I've heard of flip flopping on a single issue, but this flake is an across the board flip flopper!

Across the board flip flopping is the definition of WEAKNESS and being that his flip flopping was done for purely politically reasons should disqualify the left-leaning Romney from any thinking person's list of candidates. A 50+ year old man doesn't just suddenly change ALL of his positions on social issues, he just conceals his true beliefs. Wake up.

Clearly, the only thing Romney believes in is his own lust for power. He is the epitome of a pathological liar. There hasn't been a more psychotic and dangerous man in a US Presidential race since, well, Joseph Smith (the original Warren Jeffs) back in 1884, a man whose ideology the Mormon Romney would like to carry into Washington.

romney not all that competent
romney trails huck in the polls after outspending him 100 to 1 or more. that is not a sign of competence .

Beware the Huckster on ILLEGALS
I simply do not trust the Huckster on the CRITICAL issue of stanching ILLEGALS, who will destroy America if not stopped and reversed. We can do this by enforcing EXISTING laws and requiring REAL I.D. to function in America-- to work, rent, get licenses, seek services, attend college, pass go, etc. When they cannot get jobs and bennies ILLEGALLY, they will repatriate attritively the same ways they came.

ILLEGALS are EASILY the most serious threat to America's socio-economic well-being because today's modern service economy CANNOT benefit on balance from importing the ignorant indigent, who inevitably become HUGE net users of tax $ and social welfare services. The left wants them to vote ASAP to assure a permanent entitlement welfare state; hence, the drivers license motor voter fraud scheme rejected by 75% of New Yorkers. Here is an excellent summary of where the candidates stand on ILLEGALS (Mitt and Fred are best among front-runners) including actions while in office:

http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop 1.html

The Huckster has favored tuition for ILLEGALS and said that he does not understand resentment toward them. What about "ILLEGAL" does he not get?! Understand that some 22% of ILLEGAL aliens overstayed visas-- they need to be sent back also. America should only welcome educated, skilled immigrants who come here LEGALLY! Sen. Juan McQuisling deserves no 2nd chance for finally "getting the message," and Sanctuary City Regularization Rudy is a no-go also.

Huck makes top ten with Rudy and Hillary
source http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list -washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007

6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

Keeps good company, Hillary, Rudy, Obama, etc.

I know! Let's make him president and see if we can raise our esteem of Bush.

Sham
The liberals try to be FDR and Kennedy. The conservatives try to model themselves after Reagan, the great communicator. It is all a sham on both sides of the isle.

I watched it TNboy(newcomers, scroll up)
It was political slime. But the Iowa farm boys fell for it. Let's hope the people of New Hampshire are more knowledgable on the character of the candidates.

Romney never said he was pro-choice. He said, in former years, that he wouldn't change the EXISTING laws in Massachusetts. It would have been a costly waste of time and money. He would not have been successful in trying to change them, until NOW. He is not a baby-killer, and never has been. Romney has ALWAYS been PRO-LIFE. His children and grandchildren are the best evidence of THAT!

With Roberts as Chief Justice, and the rest of the members of a stick-to-the-Constitution Court, Romney will now be able to get Roe vs. Wade OVERTURNED. That is what he said he will do. If you knew anything about Romney's Christian religion (since the religious right made it an issue), you would know that Romney was NEVER pro-choice. It is contrary to his religious beliefs to shed innocent blood. (Abortion is shedding innocent blood.) Those who try to portray him as otherwise, are lying through their teeth for their own gain, while at the same time accusing Romney of lying. Please open your eyes to the truth.

cimarrone, get real!
Huck got millions of dollars worth of free news coverage with the running of the ad that never "ran", plus his night-before-the-election with Jay Leno. Did you wonder who arranged that? Who do you think is footing the bill for the big Huck surge in Iowa? He didn't have any money before last month to wage such a campaign. Where did it all come from?

Everyone complains about negative ads on the part of Romney. But Romney's ads were fair and just stated facts. Huck's ad called Romney "dishonest" and "a liar." He resorted to name-calling because he had no defense when his record was on display. Yet no one is pointing that out. Huck has all the liberal media for his best friend. They ignore the bad truth about Huck, while pushing endless lies about Romney. Who do you think is arranging all that? The video that TNboy refers us to is a deliberate misrepresentation of what Romney really said. You're being hoodwinked by dishonest people. Heaven help us!
