What was the biggest suprise of Election Day?

MoveOn.org claims more than 15,000 veterans and military families have signed their petition that demands Democratic senators running for President filibuster unpassed spending bills until a withdrawal date is set for troops to leave Iraq.

"Americans elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to end the war in Iraq. A blank check for billions in war funding moves us in the wrong direction," said Nita Chaudhary, Campaign Director on Iraq for MoveOn, according to reports from The Hill and Politico. "Majority Leader Reid and the Democratic leadership should hold the line they've drawn: no war funding without a timeline to end the war.”

MoveOn.org is targeting Sen. Joe Biden (D.-Del.), Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y), Sen. Chris Dodd (D.-Conn.) and Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.). MoveOn.org says they will be delivering their petitions to the Democratic senators’ Capitol Hill offices on Monday.

In September, MoveOn purchased a controversial advertisement that called U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus “General Betray Us” that was reprimanded in a non-binding Senate resolution, 72-25. Clinton and Dodd did not condemn the MoveOn advertisement in their vote. Biden and Obama did not vote.

“The senators who are running for president have talked a lot about their leadership on Iraq — now is the time for them to show it by blocking this bad deal,” said MoveOn Executive Director Eli Pariser, as quoted in stories by the Hill and the Politico---indicating it likely came from a press release issued by MoveOn.

So far only one of the 12 annual “must-pass” spending bills have been passed by Congress, although the original deadline for passage was October 30. Democrats have proposed rolling the remaining bills into a single $522 billion “omnibus” bill.

Republicans complain that partisan-driven battles have already held up work on the spending bills.

President Bush has indicated he will veto a budget-busting omnibus spending bill or anything that contains a withdrawal date for U.S. troops to leave Iraq, which could further delay Congress if Democrats insist on an end date for war operations.

Is this not abject political corruption?
"In a December 9th e-mail signed by “Eli Pariser, Justin Ruben, and the whole MoveOn PAC team,” ... stated: “In the last year, grassroots contributors like us gave more than $300 million to the Kerry campaign and the DNC, and proved that the Party doesn't need corporate cash to be competitive. Now it's our Party: we bought it, we own it, and we're going to take it back.”

Can someone please tell me how this does not amount to a direct admission on the part of MoveOn.org that it is a special interest which believes it has purchased the loyalty of Democratic politicians via campaign contributions?

Is this not EXACTLY what these people tell us is wrong with our political system today?

Is this not EXACTLY what they told us McCain-Feingold would put a stop to?

A careful review of the contributions made by MoveOn.org and its subsidiaries, cross-checked against the actual voting patterns of the politicians to whom those contributions were made should reveal a direct correspondence, in which case all of the evidence needed to file charges of political corruption and campaign finance violations against both MoveOn.org and those politicians would be established. In addition, since MoveOn.org admits to having done this, there is little room to claim it hasn't happened.

if ordinary citizens are to be subjected to audits why can't these supposed tax exempt organizations to see they are likewise copmplying with the law. It has been reported that sharpton's organization has been very lax in their filings. If tax exempt orgs. are complying with the law they have nothing to fear. When jesse uses tax exempt funds to pay off a mistress it would seem some oversight is justified. In a similar situation I doubt you would find anything in the tax laws that would allow ordinary citizens such exemptions.
