Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Hillary Clinton’s reluctance to answer questions in Tuesday evening’s Democratic presidential debate earned her the worst reviews yet of her campaign.

Clinton dodged questions about her husband’s presidential library, taxes, and illegal immigration. Take a look at the post-debate transcript to see how she danced around these questions.

Clinton Library Accessibility

Background: The Clinton Presidential Library, which is taxpayer funded, has been operating for three years but Mr. Clinton made a request that all records related to Mrs. Clinton’s involvement in policy issues remain under lock and key. Clinton said it’s “not my decision” to release the records.

RUSSERT: Senator Clinton, I'd like to follow up, because in terms of your experience as first lady, in order to give the American people an opportunity to make a judgment about your experience, would you allow the National Archives to release the documents about your communications with the president, the advice you gave? Because, as you well know, President Clinton has asked the National Archives not to do anything until 2012.

CLINTON: Well, actually, Tim, the Archives is moving as rapidly as the Archives moves. There's about 20 million pieces of paper there. And they are move, and they are releasing as they do their process. And I am fully in favor of that. Now, all of the records, as far as I know, about what we did with health care, those are already available. Others are becoming available. And I think that, you know, the Archives will continue to move as rapidly as its circumstances and processes demand.

RUSSERT: But there was a letter written by President Clinton specifically asking that any communication between you and the president not be made available to the public until 2012. Would you lift that ban?

CLINTON: Well, that's not my decision to make, and I don't believe that any president or first lady ever has. But, certainly, we're move as quickly as our circumstances and the processes of the National Archives permits.

Social Security

Background: Clinton has refused to say if she will raise taxes or cut benefits to solve the upcoming Social Security crises, although it was reported she privately told an Iowa voter she would consider raising taxes. When asked about this during the debate, she said the question was a “trap laid by Republicans.” Instead of answering the question, she said she will create a “bipartisan commission” to solve the problem.

RUSSERT: Senator Clinton, I want to clear something up which goes to the issue of credibility. You were asked at the AARP debate whether or not you would consider taxing, lifting the cap from $97,500, taxing that, raising more money for Social Security. You said, quote, It's a no. I asked you the same question in New Hampshire, and you said no. Then you went to Iowa and you went up to Ted Bowman, a teacher, and had a conversation with him saying, I would consider lifting the cap perhaps above $200,000. You were overheard by an Associated Press reporter saying that. Why do you have one public position and one private position?

CLINTON: Well, Tim, I don't. I have said consistently that my plan for Social Security is fiscal responsibility first, then to deal with any long-term challenges which I agree are ones that we are going to have to address. We would have a bipartisan commission. In the context of that, I think all of these would be considered. But, personally, I do not want to balance Social Security on the backs of our seniors and middle-class families. That's why I put fiscal responsibility first, because we have to change the Bush tax cuts, which I am committed to doing. We have to move back toward a more fair and progressive tax system, and begin once again to move toward a balanced budget with a surplus. You know, part of the idea in the '90s was not just so Bill would have a check mark next to his name in history, but so that we would have the resources to deal with a lot of these entitlement problems. George Bush understood that. The Republicans understood that. They wanted to decimate that balanced budget and a surplus because they knew that that would give them a free hand to try to privatize Social Security. I am not going to be repeating Republican talking points. So when somebody asks me, would something like this be considered, well, anything could be considered when we get to a bipartisan commission. But personally, I am not going to be advocating any specific fix until I am seriously approaching fiscal responsibility.

RUSSERT: But you did raise it as a possibility with Ted Bowman?

CLINTON: Well, but everybody knows what the possibilities are, Tim. Everybody knows that. But I do not advocate it. I do not support it. I have laid out what I do believe, and I am going to continue to emphasize that. I think, for us to act like Social Security is in crisis is a Republican trap. We're playing on the Republican field. And I don't intend to do that.

Rangel’s AMT Plan

Background: Rep. Charles Rangel (D.-N.Y.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, has introduced a bill to reform the Alternative Minimum Tax, which now taxes more people than originally intended each year. Rangel has proposed repealing the AMT but retaining the revenue by imposing a four percent surtax on singles making $150,000 and couples making $200,000 per year. At a Harlem event, which both Clintons attended with Rangel, the former President endorsed the plan. Hillary refused to say if she did as well.

RUSSERT: You went to Harlem with your husband, with Charlie Rangel. And the former president said, quote, Charlie Rangel wants me to pay more taxes so you can pay less and I think that's a good idea. Is that also your view?

CLINTON: Well, I am a great admirer of Chairman Rangel. And what he's trying to do is deal with a very serious problem. You know, the Alternative Minimum Tax was never intended to hit people are in middle income, upper middle income. It was meant for people who are rich and evading taxes. Now I don't know all the details of what Charlie is recommending, but I certainly agree with the goal. We've got to do something with the Alternative Minimum Tax. There are a lot of ways of getting there. I want it to be fair and progressive. It starts in the House, it starts in the Ways and Means Committee, which he chairs. But I think my husband was expressing an opinion that a lot of people who have been very fortunate and blessed over the last six and a half years feel. You know, we've not been asked to sacrifice anything. You know, young men and women wearing the uniform of our country are dying and being maimed. We have the average American family losing a thousand dollars in income, and George Bush and his cronies can't figure out how they can give even more tax cuts to the wealthiest of Americans. Now, I never thought Bill and I would be in that category, to be honest with you. So it's kind of a new experience. But it's not one that make us very comfortable, because we should be investing in new energy, we should be investing in college affordability, universal pre-K, the kind of health care plan that I've outlined. That's what we intend to do. But we're going to have to deal with the AMT, something that the Republicans have refused to do because, very frankly, it hits people who are below their concern. They're concerned about the real top wage earners. This hits people that are, you know, the police chief. This hits people that are, you know, two income families that are doing well. So we're going to have to do something about it. I think Charlie's being very courageous in moving forward. I don't agree with all the details, but he's on the right track to say we've got to do something about the AMT.

RUSSERT: So in principle, you would be in favor of looking at a 4 percent surtax?

CLINTON: No, I didn't say that, Tim. I said that I'm in favor of doing something about the AMT. How we do it and how we put the package together everybody knows is extremely complicated. It's not going to happen while George Bush is president. Everybody knows that. I want to get to a fair and progressive tax system. The AMT has to be part of what we try to change when I'm president. And there are a lot of moving pieces here. You know, there are kinds of issues we're going to deal with as the tax cuts expire. I want to freeze the estate tax at the 2009 level of $7 million for a couple. There's a lot of moving parts. So I'm not going to get committed to a specific approach, but I applaud Chairman Rangel for beginning the conversation.

RUSSERT: But you will not campaign on the Rangel plan?

CLINTON: No, no. That's Charlie Rangel's plan. And, as I say, I support and admire his willingness to take this on.

Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Aliens

Background: When asked if she supported giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, Clinton said it was a “gotcha” question.

RUSSERT: Senator Clinton, I just want to make sure of what I heard. Do you, the New York senator, Hillary Clinton, support the New York governor's plan to give illegal immigrants a driver's license? You told the New Hampshire paper that it made a lot of sense. Do you support his plan?

CLINTON: You know, Tim, this is where everybody plays gotcha. It makes a lot of sense. What is the governor supposed to do? He is dealing with a serious problem. We have failed. And George Bush has failed. Do I think this is the best thing for any governor to do? No. But do I understand the sense of real desperation, trying to get a handle on this? Remember, in New York, we want to know who's in New York. We want people to come out of the shadows. He's making an honest effort to do it. We should have passed immigration reform.

BAD NIGHT FOR HILLARY

Can Hillary give a straight answer on anything?

WATCH VIDEO

http://controlcongress.com/uncategorized/bad-night-for-hill ary

And I thought "That Woman", had a chance

I have never seen the Democrats field such losers.

The new party motto - "Strength thru Surrender"

Yeah!! Another Republican Landslide!!!

Rudy (Hillary Lite)
Hillary used the same logic Rudy did during a debate!

Rudy did not report illegals to the Feds. as mayor of NY because he wanted to draw them out of the shadows.

Hillary gave that same reason to provide illegal immigrants a driver license.

What am I missing?
I'm not defending her, by any means, and those of you that know my posts know I'm no supporter of the Clintons, or any politician that wants more big government. But It seemed to me that the only question didn't answer, or went around, was the last one about the illegal immigrants getting driver's licenses in NY.

The other questions she seemed to answer just like any other politician does. Not really answering the question, but giving an explanation.

I guess I'm so used to hearing those kinds of answers...which aren't really answers but long winded speeches about themselves...that I don't see what's so surprising with her answers, except for the last one mentioned in the article.

Maybe if I watch the video they'll be more revealing.

Rudy gave the same answer on Hannity
Rudy was just on Hanntiy. Rudy said he is aganist giving illegals a drivers license, But he understands why some republicans are for it (for the safety reasons).

It sounds like rudy's trying to have it both ways. He did the same thing Hillary did last night

Of course Hannity did'nt challange him!

The Clintons have raised the bar
The Clintons have raised the bar five ways from Sunday on how to avoid taking any firm position on anything. Anyone surprised? Oh,and how about the Director of HLS giving cover to the N.Y. Governor's ill advivsed license plan.

32 years of infidelity makes...

A "battered woman".. Not a President.

Americans will not elect a person who is near the psychological breaking point. It's like throwing water on a grease fire.

Imagine Hillary's finger on the nuclear trigger. And then imagine an aide whispering... "Bill did it again".

Scary!

The Usual Idiots
Rudy wasnt on TV last night and didnt evade any questions. You Clinton sock puppets just like to change the subject. She wont release the transcripts of her phone calls with BJ because she cant.If the dumb broads that support her realize her role in intimidating her husband's many voluntary and involuntary sex partners into silence was one of her main duties in the East Wing even so forgiving a crowd of saps might have second thoughts about her.
She was lying and evading the question. The most appalling thing she said in the debate was that she would continue the totally unsucessful diplomatic sniveling to get the thugs in Iran to abandon their plans to nuke up. she wants illegal aliens to have drivers licenses and to use them to vote so she completely evaded that one. Seeing how she preformed so poorly amongst a crowd of wet noodles like she was faced with on that stage should make the Dems very worried about next year.

PS Carlos
One of BJ's latest girlfriends is reputed to be a Canadian politician named belinda Stronach. If Hilly gets her finger on the nuclear trigger I would strongly advise selling any Toronto real estate you might currently owned, unless you want it flattened and cleared.

skep41
That was my best laugh today.

If the press is really going to get serious about Clinton, we should get the Swiftboat version of
Whitewater
Cattle futures
Travelgate
Healthcare debacle
War room to denigtate and degrade the women Bill had already degraded and disparaged
then there is Monica
Right wing conspiracies
Lamps and vases broken in the White House over Bill's head'
Vince Foster's mysterious suicide
and the other 50 people who died, diappeared, fell out of windows, or otherwise met untimely deaths (mostly bu gunshot and small plane crashes) because they were FOB&H
But it the Drms. don't nom. Hillary, who else is REAL presidential material?
At least the Reps. have a near 1/2 doz. possible choices who would all run strongly.

renny
If aliens can get drivers licenses and vote I would say there's a clear path for Kook-Sin-Itch. There are no strong Democratic candidates because none of them make any sense, including Hillary. She's just better at keeping her nonsense vague and reasonable sounding and has the rest of the Clinton Crime Family behind her to punish any out-of-place chortles.

Hillary Dances Around Tough Questions!?
No $#@%

Nothing else needs to be said.

skep41 ...

I heard there was a recent "bimbo story" out there.

One can only assume the RNC has an 11th hour video ready to run.

I can hear the lyrics... "Landslide"

Ok, seen the videos
I've watched the videos on YouTube, and now I see what she was doing, which is what Amanda pretty much sums up in the article.

It's much easier to "see" versus just read about how bad Hillary was in this debate.

Sad, Sad bunch...
Hillary has 0 (zero) experience running anything. (other than her mouth)

Obama has less than 0.

Edwards is a joke.

Is this the best the Democratic Party can offer?

annoy a liberal...hug a soldier.

Hillary's supporters don't care
Some just want free stuff and do not care if Hillary answers tough answers. Others think they are being "progressive" and want to give others free stuff at no real cost to them. I sat with one such lady at a soccer match earlier today.

My daughter plays for her high school (last match of the season today!) and a lady next to me was talking to her friend about how wonderful Hillary was last night. This lady is married to a lawyer (she kept mentioning it) and "works to preserve open space" and "addresses environmental issues" from her huge house in Short Hills, NJ. This is typical. Socialism is wonderful when the fallout doesn't touch you, I suppose.

Hillary's supporters aren't thinkers and doers; they are feelers and takers. They don't care about who she really is, they care about what they feel she represents.

M.K. Hamm notes....
"When Hillary got visibly angry .... Both Dodd and Obama got the best of her, and Obama had the audience laughing at her rambling, “meaning of is” hair-splitting."

"... raised her voice—yes, even more!—and got a flush in her cheeks."

And this was debating her fellow dems! Can hardly wait until she's debating the Republicans... All bets off... :-)

Can hardly wait for THAT rodeo to kick off!

Just As I Have Warned
For weeks I have contended Hillary is insane. That is not meant as a flippant remark--I am dead serious. Now others are starting to take note--her cackle, her bulging eyes, her strange expressions ,and her contradictions and convoluted political statements are recognized as problems. The MSM ,who anointed her as "the smartest woman in the world" are now unable to cover for her insanity. The MSM are still trying by dragging Bill Clinton in to help smooth out her rantings and the MSM writes all it can to cover her, but it won't help. The cackle, the cackle, the cackle without cause--the uncontrolled display of bitterness, glowing lies and the incessant blaming of others for her faults are all great tell the tale signs--she has now lost control. "The Smartest Woman In The World" is now stunningly revealed as "The Craziest Woman In The World".

Well, Warrior
Insanity is marked by brokeness from reality. Hillary has been afforded ample accomodation of her personal "reality". The media, her constellation of advisors, and supporters consistently bend reality. At very least she is personality disordered . The narcissism is visible from outer space.

Driver's Licenses for New York Illegals
At the debate, Russert asked a YES OR NO QUESTION:

RUSSERT: Senator Clinton, I just want to make sure of what I heard. Do you, the New York senator, Hillary Clinton, support the New York governor's plan to give illegal immigrants a driver's license? You told the New Hampshire paper that it made a lot of sense. Do you support his plan?

Her "answer" was nothing more than an attempt to blame the Federal Government, meaning the Bush administration, for failing to solve the immigration problem. As I recall, the "immigration problem" goes back decades (these 12 million illegals didn't all cross the border in the last seven years), and that includes the years that her husband was the President and did nothing about it either. If she could not answer Russert with a "yes" or "no", another acceptable answer could have been, "since the Spitzer licensing proposal is extremely new and there is a campaign in progress, I have not had the time to evaluate it". This would have been reasonable, but I guess that the "smartest woman in the world" is incapable of coming up with something like this.

mainstream media can't cover for her...
That's true, but what's new is that they are not afraid to criticise her anymore.

America's True Entitlement EXPOSED!
I propose that illegal aliens be given a free Toyota Prius along with their drivers license. So as not to stink up the air with their filthy old pick-up trucks.

tough questions
i can see hillary's point as well as the govenor of new york. if these illegals are allowed to get picture ids; i do think that there will be less of a chance of duplication and fraud. they will be in the system. trying to pass off a bogus id could and should be grounds for arrest and deportation. as far as flip-flopping, isn't new york a sanctuary city overseen by both rudy and goldberg(repubs). another flip-flop mitt was goveranator of massachusetts when the decision to allow same sex marriage was bought before us, so she stumbled, i'm sure all of the candidates will trip over their words a time or two. hasn't mitt done it already by cally barack obama, osama? should i be wringing my little ol' paws over that "intentional insult"? heck for the last 6+ years we have had a "leader" that can't even give a decent speech, even with the que cards and screens in front of him. so lay off, i'm sure that hillary gaff will soon be corrected. i know if i report somewhere with a false or duplicated id, i'd go straight to the pokey. the same should happen to illegals and then deportion follows. right now they are just helter skelter and anything goes with them. they cause injuries with their reckless driving, commit crimes in which they are allowed to get away with, steal, and cheat etc. get rid of the whole lot of them.

Well, for cryin' out loud.
Somebody who's breaking the law walks in to a gov't office and wants a drivers license, and we don't know what to do? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! You arrest the goofy bastardo and either jail or deport the emeffer. We have got to get rid of the 60's hippie/flower morons.

I understand that 5 of 7 of the dem candidates thought the issuance would be a good idea.

Does anyone know if any repub candidates have commented on this? I'd surely like to know.

Hillary - disaster
Hillary could not give a straight answer to anything. She plays extensive dodgeball or otherwise obfuscates her answers. She is pathetic.

On the other hand....
I do not want her beaten up too badly in the Dem debates. I want Hillary to win the nomination because I believe she represents the Republicans best opportunity to re-capture the White House.

I still, of course, believe Hillary is as pathetic as the left wing of the Democratic Party.

Warrior
I am convinced that "the cackle" was scripted for her because her natural response is to become red-faced and angry when someone even "mildly" challenges Queen Hillary. Well, that didn't work so we saw that anger, that out of control temper trying to leap out. I agree, this is a disturbed woman.

Carlos
Agreed on your opinion of the democrat candidates-at least the big 3. I feel like the whole country has amnesia and doesn't remember Hillary Clinton and all her antics before becoming a carpet bagging Senator. If she were a Republican, she would have been destroyed years ago. John Edwards got rich on phony science, hurting our healthcare system liberals all claim to care so much about. He uses his son's death for votes. This is the most despicable, phony, inexperienced man to ever run for president, and that is saying a lot. Obama is a decent man who I disagree with on almost every topic. But, he doesn't have the experience to be president.

At least the second tier has some people that at least I could imagine not totally ruining the country. Joe (the plagiarist) Bidn at least appears to have a clue. Bill Richardson at least seems to be serious minded-when he's not licking Hillary's as*.

Carlos
"Battered Woman" is a great description. I just cannot understand how she can be such a feminist Icon given her record of allowing her husband to crap on her for decades. This is the sign of a strong woman?

bonnie
The point is that this wasn't just a stumble. This was Hillary off the script. She was finally asked a tough question or two and she just cannot handle it. It's about time she answered the many unanswered questions swirling around her. A Republican would never be afforded the protection from tough questioning that Hillary has gotten from the MSM.

skep41
Yep. She stumbled on almost every question. It is about time Hillary was asked a tough question or two or fifty!

Watching Hitlery...
I was reminded of the Texas governor in the movie "The Best Little Wh*re House in Texas". I laughed my b*tt off.

She "danced" around every tough question. And it was so obvious!

All you Liberals, get ready. Hitlery is going to be the Dumocrats candidate. She has too much money and too much dirt on every other Dumocrat running for president.

When she is the candidate, get ready to lose the White House, the Senate, and the House. She will go down to defeat so fast it will make your head spin round. Even this early in the race, the polls show a majority of the US WILL NOT VOTE FOR HER!

Mrs Iselin
Mrs Iselin is true to form

Hillary's competitors.....
...should consider how the Clintons take care of those people who are hostile to their plans for power:

http://www.greaterthings.com/News/Clinton_Scandals/dead_fri ends.htm

As this website illustrates, messing with the Clintons is harmful to one's health. After reading it, think of what she might do to the rest of us.

Marlin Newburn
Quite a list. All coincidences I'm sure-wink! I'm off now to visit Santa Claus.

Cookie
Frightening, eh?

What really is amazing is that people still love the Clintons. That says a lot about human nature, and it isn't good.

A President...
has to make difficult decisions, frequently at a moment's notice, that affect millions of people around the world. Anyone running for the office should therefore be able to answer a question that takes them "off script" without turning red and having their voice go up two octaves. This is why Bush came off during debates as more Presidential than Gore and Kerry despite less national office experience - he gave common sense answers that were naturally delivered. I didn't see this last Democratic debate, but in the ones I did watch Joe Biden has seemed the most naturally in command of the facts and his own positions. If a Presidential candidate can't or won't tell you where he or she stands on a position, or answer a question without irrelevant lashing out, that person is not fit to hold the job.

Hillary Clinton and the truth
As Dick Morris said recently on Hannity & Colmes, he worked with her for years, and she is "incapable of telling the truth".

bfred
Couldn't have said it better myself. I guess that's what really bothers conservatives like me. It is OK to not vote Republican-we can disagree. What we can't stomach is backing such obviously flawed and at times, despicable people for office. Al Sharpton ran for president and no one talked about the elephant in the room. Hillary Clinton-well I made a long list earlier that barely scratches the surface. John Edwards is scum. Using his son's death for votes, like Al Gore did with his dead sister, is sickening.

Now I don't agree with a thing Obama says. He voted for "live birth" abortion in Illinois. His muslim background is troubling. However, as a human being, he seems normal and likeable, despite a lack of experience. Richardson & Biden are adults at least. But Hillary and Edwards, punleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Sandy Berger can help Hillary
Someone should tell Hillary that Sandy Berger is really good at working around processes in the Archives and retrieving documents quickly.

I'm one of the many conservatives
who have already seen Hillary for what she is, a fascist or socialist dictator in the making.

Democrats support her for two reasons; they liked Bill and think they will get another Bill if they elect her, or they will vote for her because she is a woman.

I've been wondering how long it would take for other Democrat candidates to challenge her on this way. Thus far she has been given an easy time and when some sounded as if they might be challenging her they would back peddle (Obama is one example).

I'm sure there was some behind the scenes issue(s) which led to the lack of a challenge by other Democrat candidates. Maybe it was a deal to pick one of them as VP if she won, or just simple fear of the Clinton smear machine bringing out their own dirty laundry.

Something must have happened behind the scenes to change how things were playing out. She must have either shown herself to be playing the others for fools (by making the same promise to every one of them) or she failed to live up to her end of some bargain, or who knows what.

I'm not one to believe this is all some grand plan to position her in the same way Bill was positioned in his first run for PotUS, thinking that they can repeat that scenario, but they are Democrats and are capable of almost anything to achieve their goals, including making themselves look bad now so they can look better in the general election.

I'm just glad to see her falling on her face. Fake or not, planned or not, I'll take it for simple entertainment value alone.

Rudy's Answer to Illegal Aliens
Pretty much the same as Hillary and GWB. Lip service to border security and "Comprehensive Immigration Reform", amnesty. We tried that once in 1986 and Reagan thought it the worst mistake of his terms. We now have 10 times the number of illegal aliens. We will either elect a President who will uphold the laws or one who will change them to accomodate the illegal aliens. If we do the latter, we are voluntarily committing national suicide.

NY driver licenses for illegals
Hey, am I the only one who wonders what's wrong with the driver licenses that Mexicans get back in Mexico? I've driven in Canada, Jamaica, and the B.V.I.. In all three places, my Ohio drivers license was my license to drive. Why do illegals need New York licenses? If the problem is renewal, that's easy to fix... just like how WE have a Social Security office in Mexico City so Mexicans don't have to come here to claim SS from us, why can't the NY governor provide an office in NY for the Mexico DMV?

Of course, this wouldn't solve the other problem... renewing a Mexican driver license doesn't register the illegal to vote.

Two THings
Immigration is the killer issue. Hillary and the dems will drown in their amnesty if the republicans simply turn on the spigot. Amnesty is simply an insane proposition.

Skep41. One question she must be asked: "You have asserted that you were in the room when Bill decided on the pardons to grant, but that you had no input on them. Would you like to confirm this one more time on national TV for all those centrists trying to decide whether they trust you?

hillary as an enabler
i just don't get it. why does there have to be an ulterior motive just because she believes in her wedding vows, for better or worse. should mrs. craig leave her husband, or was she hanging on for political reasons? if we are practicing being christians shouldn't foregiveness have a role somewhere?

Do I have this right?
The woman whom Bill calls "The Warden" can order him to do anything, and he'll do it, except open up her papers in his library.
