Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

An effort to dramatically expand federal funding for children’s healthcare failed to get the votes needed to go forward Thursday, flaring the temper of one Democratic congressman.

Just before a House vote to override President Bush’s veto of a bill to expand the State Children’s Healthcare Program by $35 billion, California Rep. Pete Stark (D.) suggested the President was “amused” by innocent people who died in the Iraq war.

Stark said, “Republicans are worried that they can't pay for insuring an additional 10 million children. They sure don't care about finding $200 billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq”

He continued: “Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Here is a video link.

House Democrats needed a two-thirds majority to override a presidential veto. They fell 13 votes short. The final vote to sustain the veto passed 273-156.

Robert Realizes
Robert,

In your post above you note: "the last person in the HOuse to "cane" another member was supporting slavery."

Could you clarify something for the rest of us? Would that have been a southern Democrat with the cane? They were, of course, among the strongest supporters of slavery.

Of course, slavery and canes have absolutely nothing to do with Pete Stark's outrageous and traitorous comments, or S-CHIP, but since you brought it up, I thought I'd ask.

More lies from the left.
In a prior comment, a link to a factcheck.org was posted as though it could be relied upon as a the ultimate authority rather than another dishonest partisan group in the debate. They would have us believe that Bush "lied" when he claimed that families earning as much as $83k would be extended coverage. Factcheck then, stepping in to rescue the rest of us from the deceptions of the dishonest, unprincipled Bsh administration seeks to set the record straight by bringing us the "facts." The truth is, families earning up to $83k are already covered under existing law, and Bush is lying (presumably because he hates children.) The lefties here then parrot this about as though it is the trump card before which all others are defeated.

Of course, the left is once again lying in order to smear Bush and gain political advantage (that's all they really care about anyway - not the kids.) The truth is, S-CHIP is a primarily federally funded program administered by the states. The federal contribution covers about 2/3 of the cost of the program for families earning up to 200% of the poverty level, which is currently about $20,650 for a family of 4.) Some states (e.g. New Jersey) extend the coverage to families of up to 350% of poverty and fund the difference. Thus the claim that families making up to $83k are already covered under current law. This of course conceals the fact the the federal gov't is not liable for the cost of covering families earning that much. The expansion of the program the left wants, would in fact make the federal gov't liable, whereas at present it is not. So they lie by saying Bush is lying and they lie about the facts of the program. We've grown to expect nothing less.
