Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Editor's Note: A video clip of Obama's August 13 statement appears below this column on page 2.

Barack Obama appears to have made another foreign policy misstep.

At an August 13 New Hampshire campaign stop, Obama said that as President he would move more U.S. troops to Afghanistan to “get the job done there, and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there.”

The Republican National Committee is demanding an immediate apology from Obama. Chairman Mike Duncan issued a statement that said: “It is hard to imagine that anyone who aspires to be Commander-in-Chief would say such a thing about our brave men and women in uniform. Obama owes our armed forces an apology – today.”

Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell, who just released the biography “Obama: From Promise to Power,” said of Obama on the Hannity and Colmes Show Tuesday that “He’s been…a little bit all over the place with his foreign policy.”

Obama’s assessment of the work being done by American troops in Afghanistan comes after his controversial August 1 pledge to take unilateral action against Pakistan as Commander-in-Chief if President Pervez Musharraf did not root out terrorists residing in his country.

“Let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans,” Obama said in Washington, D.C at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. “They are plotting to strike again….If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will."

Before that speech, the Illinois senator flubbed an answer to a question about the use of nuclear weapons. On August 2 an Associated Press reporter asked Obama, “Is there any circumstances where you'd be prepared or willing to use nuclear weapons to defeat terrorism and Osama bin Laden?”

He replied, “That’s not a hypothetical that I'm going to discuss.” When the reporter asked him to talk about tactical nuclear weapons, Obama said, “I think it would be a profound mistake for us to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance.” Then he backed off: “Let me scratch all that. There's been no discussion of nuclear weapons. That's not on the table.”

In a July 23 Democratic debate, Obama ignited a scuffle between himself and Hillary Clinton when he said he would engage in diplomatic talks with rogue nations. When all the candidates were asked: “Would the candidates for president be willing to meet, within their first year in office, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea?” Obama said yes. Hillary said no.

The next day in separate interviews with Iowa’s Quad-City Times, Clinton said Obama’s “yes” answer was “irresponsible and naïve.” In response, Obama told the Quad-City Times that it was “irresponsible and naïve” that Clinton voted to authorize President Bush to go to war in 2002.

]On the 2008 presidential campaign trail, Obama often reminds supporters of an anti-war speech he gave in 2002 as an Illinois state senator that is intended to highlight his foreign policy foresight. Obama likes to repeat a line from that speech, in which he called the Iraq war “a dumb war, a rash war” and warned that "U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined costs, with undetermined consequences.”

He doesn’t, however, repeat the portion of his speech that precluded those lines and implied the Iraq War was constructed for political gain by senior White House advisor Karl Rove: “What I am opposed to is the attempt by potential hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty state, a drop in the medium income—to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone thorough the worst month since the Great Depression. That’s what I am opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war, a war based not on reason, but on passion, not on principle, but on politics.”

Big joke
"Obama has stated pleny times "when have I tried to catch a cab in New york city" I have been reminded what color I am."

Yeah, I heard him say that, and he's a damned liar. Just another dem play of the race card. How typical.

Loyal Democrat
"Criticisms launched against Obama are just excuses made by racists to justify their opposition to voting for a black man"

Just becuase he's black and I don't agree him doesn't make me a racist ya moron. Liberals intrepretation of racism and what it actually means are two different things to them.

One other thing I don't see Rev Al or Rev Jesse giving him big hugs. Last I heard they were both endorsing the Clinton. Kind of tells you something about the man doesn't it.

MuscleDaddy writes of Obama
- he is 'criticized in the MSM with the functional-equivalent of: "Oh my stars, he probably shouldn't have said that."

Well put, but actually, I think it's getting more serious than that, and that's good. Just about every two days this guy utters some two or three completely nonsensical sentences that show him for the inexperienced and not-schooled-in-foreign-relations neophyte that he is -- and all his flubs are all getting picked up by media.

People who are going to vote for him are going to vote for him anyway. He could (and probably will) declare the moon is made of Swiss cheese and they would still vote for him. But his idiotic statements MAY cause some Democratic moderates or undecideds who hate Hillary (which isn't hard) to look in the Republican direction. I hope so. Either way, I love watching Obama expose himself for the newbie he is. Completely inappropriate to lead a nation -- any nation.

Anthony Thomas...
Yes, I read your 10:05 - the one that started:

"I find it funny how far conservatives are willing to go to discredit Barack Obama."

Given that it's not really all that 'far' to simply point out his own words (spoken in public in front of recording devices), that seemed kind of weak.

Not unlike trying to use Haditha as confirmation of Obama's 'bombing villages' comment (you HAVE been keeping up on the Haditha developments, right?).

Also not unlike saying:
"he has been criticized for some of his comments."

Again I will ask:
What do you call it when a Republican can get ridden-down for MONTHS for a misspelling or calling Islamic terrorists 'Evil', ...

but when Obama threatens to invade a country whose government is friendly to us, or attempts to dismiss the war in Iraq as a Rovian plot concocted to distract from health-care...

- he is 'criticized in the MSM with the functional-equivalent of:
"Oh my stars, he probably shouldn't have said that."

Seriously - I'd like your insight (Warren Small, Bigg Dogg - feel free to jump in there)

- MuscleDaddy

Anthony Thomas...
Respectfully...
One reason black people have trouble getting cabs anywhere is because even black cab drivers will tell you that when they get robbed and hurt, it is overwhelmingly by black people.
Furthermore, Obama hasn't had to hail a cab in New York in at least a dozen years, so perhaps that stupid line was a huge lie.
He's been under secret service protection for, what, a year already?
And before that, he had an entourage and giant SUV's to haul him around wherever he went.
Don't fall for Obama showing his own stupidity and racist beliefs.
Calvin Sims, a NYT writer, wrote an article last year that proved this nonsense out to be untrue. when he left the country 10 years ago, he couldn't get a cab to save his life. In 2006? The first one he saw stopped for him.
Obama is playing you and black people in the hopes of appealing to the black vote.
Meanwhile, he's been a state senator of Illinois for a while now. So what has he done for black people as a member of the senate? NOTHING.
Yes. He's black. Whoopedeedoo.
RACISM is still racism if the only reason you vote for Obama is because he's black.

Loyal Democrat
is Townhalls resident satirist.

And damn good at it too.
He got me once. I got all riled up and lit him up. Then I found out and felt like a putz.

Big Dufus Dogg
Okay idiot libtard if you say so. There's no point inarguing with an idiot. You are the textbook definiton of that.

Anthony Thomas
I'll make you a deal:

I'll stop using his middle name, if you'll stop using the mention of his middle name to bypass the question I specifically asked of you.

What do you say - deal?

- MuscleDaddy

MommaLovesChocolate makes a good point..
Back when Dan Quayle misspelled "potatoe", the media didn't let up on him for a second, and his need for a spellchecker was considered a perfectly viable reason to keep him the HELL away from the White House...

GWB refers to Islamic terrorists as 'Evil', and gets shouted-down for MONTHS for his 'simplistic' view...

B. Hussein Obama says "If Pakistan doesn't get it together, we'll invade." ...and gets a pass.

B. Hussein Obama says "US Soldiers need to stop their bombing of villages and slaughtering of civilians." ...and gets a pass.

B. Hussein Obama says that the whole war in Iraq was cooked up by Karl Rove as a way to distract the country from 'health care' ...and gets a pass.

Seriously, guys (Warren Small, Bigg Dogg, Anthony Thomas) - what do you call that?

- MuscleDaddy

We are all racists(sarcasam)

Stop the racists criticisms of Obama...
Criticisms launched against Obama are just excuses made by racists to justify their opposition to voting for a black man.

Im sorry this just irks the crap out of me. Obama is an idiot, plain and simple, i dont care if hes black...dumb is dumb. Quit using the "your a racist" line every time your offended, your side does the same with illegals and its gettin old.

for Lolo
Lolo writes: "I'm enjoying watching Obama go down in a blaze of glory. Wonder if he will take a VP slot from HC? Probably."

I'll bet you that at the convention, Hillary won't offer the VP slot to Obama. She's going to freeze him, and his supporters, out.

For several reasons:

a) Hillary isn't known for being particularly gracious in victory. She's not going to just forgive Obama for all the things he and his supporters said about her.

b) If Obama makes a flub now, Hillary can capitalize on it. But if he makes a flub as her running mate, Hillary will be forced to cover for him, and she'd rather not waste her time doing that.

c) For all his flubs, Obama is still exciting and draws enthusiastic crowds and media hype. Hillary doesn't want to be upstaged by her own running mate during the campaign.

d) As a Northerner, Hillary would like to balance her ticket with a running mate from the Sun Belt, like Richardson.

Anthony Thomas
So I take it you have hitched your wagon to the Obama star? the star is falling. The man has no resume but I will give you he has charisma.

Voters seldom understand federalism

Presidential candidates are frequently elected on the basis of their domestic proposals, but foreign policy is a more significant presidential responsibility. The president is the only elected official representing the whole country.

Domestic policy is enacted as a series of compromises among Congressional representatives and states acting independently in areas where they have jurisdiction. The president can sway voters and jawbone Congress, but it's very difficult for him to lead on domestic policy. If voters understood these aspects of federalism better, they'd place more weight on a presidential candidate's foreign policy proposals.

Obama has made it abundantly clear that he understands less about foreign policy than many well-read junior high schoolers. His most coherent proposals suggest expanding government spending for a plethora of mendicant groups -- something Congress habitually forces on every president, no matter what his stated ideology. The last thing the Oval Office needs is another do-gooder who chirps, "Hey! I've got a swell idea. Let's spend more money on vaguely defined goals."

Barack Obama is another Jimmy Carter in the making -- a soothing persona perhaps, but a non-swimmer who's been thrown into the deep end of the pool.

I'm laughing
and all the "Iraq war was a mistake" baloney! Wonder if you will think this when Iran aims nukes at us? Probably because some are born clueless and others insist on being clueless.

I'm enjoying watching Obama go down in a blaze of glory. Wonder if he will take a VP slot from HC? Probably. He is more interested in prestige than leadership. A true leader would never take a backseat to Billary.

Obama: flubs and mama
Senator Obama's long list of mind bending flubs listed in Amanda Carpenter's article is barely the tip of the iceberg and living prof that charisma can be cute, but does not make one a leader of any note.

One has to wonder how effective as president anyone could be who consistently ignores the existence of his mother. Obama presents himself, as do all his supporters, as a black man. If elected as president he will be billed as our first black president. I wonder how much mention there will ever be made of mama Obama.

Having been involved in genealogy and family history for over ten years I have run into a number of people, mostly men, who are deeply enraptured by their father's genealogical line to the total exclusion of their mother's. Each time the senator claims to be black he joins this group of shallow people who ignore fifty percent of their gene pool. It's also a not too subtle play of the race card.

There is no doubt that Barak Obama may be the first president to be a man with a black father and a white mother. It is, however, a physical, scientific impossibility for him to be the first black president.

Leaving race aside, as we should, the real question becomes how bad does the country need another charismatic fluff in the white house regardless of who his father and mother are?

Obama, take a trip
Has Obama ever been outside the United States? His foreign policy statements echo eerily of the assumptions made by friends of mine who assume that the entire world (if they admit there is such a place) outside the USA is exactly like us only sometimes more violent and without our amenities.

Perhaps Obama should spend a few years in the Peace Corps before he tries to become Commander in Chief. A couple of tours in Darfur, and no Whole Foods in sight (or any other kind), or perhaps a hands-dirty Habitat for Humanity gig in Afghanistan, might disabuse him of the world view he seems to have formed from going to the movies.

Disturbing
that this clown is taken seriously by so many. Demonstrates a sheep's level of intelligence.

Can anyone explain exactly how this dangerously ignorant socialist fraud is qualified to run our country?

The only explanation I've heard offered is because he is half black. So am I. So What?

ROY, DRINKING THE OBAMA KOOL AID.....
Little Roy, how much you need to learn son.

Didn't Obama say we should attack Pakistan? Well if he becomes "president" (God Forbid), he will most likely make that happen. What has Pakistan done to us, or their own people?

Obama is a wannabe. He hates America, and will do whatever it takes to destroy it. He hates those who defend our freedom, our military men and women, and he hates our way of life.

I hope that you aren't that stupid to think that we are the modern day Nazis hell bent on world domination. Roy if you are that asinine, you either need to seek professional help, or get out of America entirely......Stop drinking Obama's spoon fed strychnine kool aid.......

Obama is the next best savior of the DemocRATS like Gus Hall was to the Communist Party.

Without appologies........

Obama's like a box of chocolates;
you never know what he'll say until he bites into himself. To him, invading Iraq is wrong, but invading Pakistan is not.

Obama and foreign policy
Let's see now, Hillary, McCain, Edwards, Giuliani, Romney, etc., all supported the attack on Iraq.

Obama opposed it from the outset.

Obviously that invasion was a tragic mistake for a couple dozen reasons. It kills and maims Americans and innocent Iraqis, costs us billions upon billions which we borrow from China and elsewhere, humiliates us before the world, alienates allies, distracts us from bin Laden and those responsible for 9-11, has led to ethnic cleansing and civil war, strengthens Iran, has opened a second front, sharply divides Americans - and we could go on and on.

So, who has been smart on foreign policy and who has been stupid?

OBAMA THE HATE MERCHANT.....
As I have said before, DemocRATS HATE America.....

With every word spewed out by this wannabe Obama, he is proving that there is such a thing as hoof and mouth disease in humans. His piehole is filled with his Birkenstock sandal.....

The troops have had cheap shots and inuendoes thrown at them. Besides the hyperbole, and accusations, can Obama give one example, one credible witness to this type of attrocity?

So we are to believe that the terrorists will simply leave us alone? Time through the centuries have proven that Islamo-facists have plagued civilization for centuries. Just look at what they have done to Israel.

First they go after the Saturday people, then the Sunday people next. And if Obama is elected (God Forbid), we will be hit again. And to all the America blamers and haters, where will the blame lie then?

This guy is a charlatan, he is a racist, and he HATES America. PERIOD.

Screw him and his socialist minions........

Without appologies......

rocker
mommy's boy is back spouting his comic book nonsense. Did you get a date after you finished at the video store or did you have to rush home for dinner at moomy's. BTW has mommy been helping you find a date. Most mothers get concerned when their child is 31, still living at home and can't gety a date. Don't you want or are you unabnle to make your mommy a graNDMA

Too Green
Obama is digging his own grave with his tongue. He is inexperienced and has no business running for president.

Remember the last time a presidential candidate kept saying the wrong things, digging himself deeper and deeper? The media raked him over the coals and wouldn't give him any slack whatsoever.

Can you say Dan Quayle?

Why isn't the mainstream media going after Obama the same way? I'll tell you why....because he's a Democrat and he's black.

Can you say double standard? Bias? Lack of objectivity?

No surprise here whatsoever........

Huh???
You guys on the left would be better posting you WEAK arguments on Kos, or DU. Geez I've heard it all here, it doesn't matter what Obama stands for, just elect him because he is black. Obama has a way to get the job done...pull out the troops and run (but he is going to be tough on security, and the best of all The troops kill civilians because they had a bad day.

These morons are as pathetic as John Edwards charging $50,000 to lecture on poverty in America. Look in your back seats libs and you will find the FLAG that flew from your car for 2 weeks after 9/11, your gonna need it again soon if one of these tough strong rats are elected. The terrorists watch CNN every day and can't wait for the change you are demanding.

Another Obama story
Nice to see he's got your collective knickers in such a twist. =)

Moving one step closer...
...to victory for Hillary!

As a South Texas Conservative
I hope Obama just keeps spouting his far left drivel. He is nothing more than a 3rd year Senator with so little experience it is glaringly apparant for all to see. And ridicule.

Complete Irony
This is one of the worst cases of the pot calling the kettle off-white that I've seen. Obama shoots from the hip and makes what's perceived by his critics to be a few verbal gaffes. Dubya is surrounded by military geniuses and, after ignoring them all, initiates maybe the biggest foreign policy blunder in American history. Talk about your misplaced critisism.

Yet another example
of Democrats' "supporting" our troops.

Yes, but Obama has such a soothing voice
and an acceptable enough skin color to woo the soccer moms. Issues are unimportant to the uniformed. That is how he got to be a Senator from the peoples' republic of Illinois.

Milli Vanilli lessons
Poor guy needs to just record this stuff ahead of time and lip sync every speech from now on.

Interesting that neither B. Hussein

Obama nor Big Dogg have said anything worthwhile... EVER!

Must be that Big Dogg is impressed with very little..

oblahma
what started out as en exciting campaign has slipped into obscurity. His announcement on the steps in springfield garnered a great deal of excitement. He came across as someone genuine with real communication skills. He has since contracted foot in the mouth disease and is nothing more than missus clinton light. Perhaps with some original ideas he might have garnered more followers but merely championing further expansions to the same tired and failed programs of the dims dooms his campaign. Amongst those on the left they are holding out for a VP position but as he brings nothing to help the clinton ticket that is a lost hope. Oblahma will return to the senate where he can continue his call for more govt programs and more socialism

This should NOT be a surprise!

In fact, our first clue was when Australian PM Howard ripped Obama on Iraq Proposal.....

February 13, 2007. Howard said terrorists want Sen. Barack Obama to win the U.S. presidency. Howard's comments came after the Obama proposed legislation to force the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq by spring 2008.

And, of course we know that the radical Islamics have been referring to the dumbocrats as their "allies" for some time now.

Big Dogg
"Here we go again - we can never talk of this war without one of the Warpublican faithful demanding an apology on behalf of the sainted troops - even as they kill civilians by the thousands."

Of course you can state your opposition to the war! Whoever said you couldn't? The outrage here comes from unsubstantiated (that's NO EVIDENCE for Big Dogg) claims that our troops are deliberating targeting and killing civilians. Where's your proof? It's not enough to be angry at the war (for libs, feeling strongly is sufficient to take any action). You've gotta have FACTS.

Our troops are not murdering civilians. My proof: check the headlines "Haditha soldiers cleared on all counts". It's in the NY Times!!

Obama should be ashamed.

All we need now
to make the picture completely Politically Correct is to nominate a black woman for the democratic ticket. According to some, she'd be a shoe in with both the black and the female vote.

How ridiculous can it get???

I know blacks vote essentially lock-step with the party that tried to deny their rights, but I give women the benefit of the doubt until the stats say differently.

Flubber?
Obama could never hope to attain the heights of flubbery that our current Frat Boy In Chief has secured.

History will long remember W-ism's. Obama is not in the same league.

My personal favorite: I know how difficult it is to put food on your family.

Top that, Barak!

Flub? yeah, right.
This election is such an obvious set up to put Hillary in the White House it is pathetic.

There it is!
So there it is! According to Loyal Democrat we should just vote for Obama "because he's black"! It doesn't matter what he believes or what he says, just as long as he's black.

What about Hillary? There's never been a woman president before, isn't it a womans time to be president? Shouldn't we vote for her JUST because she's a woman?

Do you see how shallow your position is?

Compared to what?
Obama's comments appear rational compared to the "quagmire" foreign policy that Bush and Cheney pushed us into. Mr Obama would have gotten Osama by now and our troops would be back home where they belong. We would also have an extra 12 billion a month to spend on needed infrastructure improvements in our own country.

Stop the racists criticisms of Obama...
Criticisms launched against Obama are just excuses made by racists to justify their opposition to voting for a black man.

It is so tiring to sit back and watch all of the people that judge a person by the color of his skin. It is time that we elect a black president, and it shouldn't matter what positions such a candidate espouses.

The only way we can prove that race doesn't matter is to elect a black to the presidency. So accept Obama as the best candidate, and stop scrutinizing what he says.

More than a flub
A flub is admitting a $400 haircut. In my opinion, Obama has truly insulted thousands of very brave and patriotic men and women who answered the nation's call. You don't have to be gung-ho war to feel this way. I am not at all gung-ho war, but I cringed when I heard his thoughtless and stupid comment.

He is a wet-behind-the-ears, very green, very inexperienced, very mouthy and very callous man who, I believe, is trading on his race to get attention. He certainly brings no valid experience to the table, and now he demonstrates on a twice-a-week basis his total lack of understanding of foreign affairs and his total lack of support for the U.S. fighting forces. He is proving quite an embarrassment to the field of presidential candidates.

I hope this guy gets nominated.....
...if not, Obama (the unrestrained dope) should run as an independent!!!

Now pack that in your "Adult Leader" and smoke it.....
