Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

CHICAGO--Bill O’Reilly has said liberal DailyKos blogger convention brought together the “angriest, activist core” of the Democratic Party, but the attendees weren’t the typical hate-spewing, left-wing protesters epitomized by Code Pink and Cindy Sheehan.

Rather, the extreme left has grown into an organized, radical 21st century online force, more interested in raising taxes to fund universal broadband than donning hippy headbands.

The conference, heavily backed by special interests, was attended by 1,500 well-dressed, laptop-carrying liberals who believe abortion is a human right, want to expand union membership and are demanding universal healthcare on the government tab. All of them were committed to harnessing the power of the internet to lay the foundation for a major takeover for extreme liberal politics--reinforcing the conference’s billing as “YearlyKos: Building a Netroots Nation.”

One of the most popular speeches given at YearlyKos was a Thursday evening keynote address delivered by Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean. As architect of the 50-state strategy to systematically party-build at local, state and national levels, he cheered the political internet organization that has benefited the Democrats.

“I want to say a few things about the ’net,” Dean said. “Even after the campaign four years ago, I didn’t realize what a powerful tool this is. This is the most extraordinary invention for empowering ordinary people since the invention of the printing press in the 1400s . It has re-democratized America. There is an enormous shift in power.”

After Dean’s keynote speech, a bevy of workshops and panels were held over the next few days to help bloggers understand polling research, get financial backing and become more effective in local politics. There was even a meeting that contemplated creating a blogger union to help bloggers get jobs, conduct collective bargaining and buy group health insurance.

One of the chief benefits of the conference was the opportunity it provided bloggers to seek advice from each other. At the “Blogging While Female” workshop, featuring the controversial Pandagon blogger Amanda Marcotte, formerly of the John Edwards campaign, and Feministing’s foul-mouthed Jessica Valenti, one participant in the “abortion business” cautioned others to buy up several domain names for their sites. She said that a right-winger had bought up variations of her site and filled them with pro-life propaganda.

DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas delivered the conference’s closing address Saturday. With tears in his eyes, he detailed the Democrats’ blog-driven victories in the 2006 midterm elections, including Sen. Jim Webb against incumbent Republican senator George Allen in Virginia and Sen. John Tester against incumbent Republican senator Conrad Burns in Montana.

“We helped recruit them into the race, helped then win tough primaries and push them over the finish line,” Moulitsas said. “It was fitting that their victories, as razor thin as they were, gave Democrats control of the Senate.”

He continued: “We are no longer a curiosity; we’ve been effective. Now, we’re a full fledged member of the progressive coalition. We have gathered here in my hometown of Chicago to celebrate not with just ourselves, but our allies in the labor movement, our friends in the issue groups and our party leadership.”

Although the 2007 YearlyKos is only the second annual conference of the far-left blogger organization, their ability to command top-level politicans and acquire generous sponsorship rivals the best of long-standing national conservative and GOP conferences.

The biggest names in the Democratic Party seem to recognize the grassroots political power behind DailyKos. Every Democrat running for their party’s nomination for President, save one, made time in their schedules to appear in a 2-hour long YearlyKos presidential forum and hold individual breakout sessions where conference participants could ask questions. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.), Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.), Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Democratic Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Rahm Emanuel (N.Y) planned to attend, but congressional work that ran late Friday evening prevented them from making their scheduled appearances early Saturday morning.

Aside from drawing these political heavy-hitters, YearlyKos was also sponsored by powerful special interests like the National Education Association, the Service Employees International Union, the International Union of Teamsters and MoveOn.Org, as well as partisan fundraising groups like DSCC and DCCC.

These sponsors helped YearlyKos secure McCormick Place Conference Center, one of the nation’s largest convention centers located off the Lake Michigan coast in downtown Chicago.

Saturday evening, the Teamsters held a complimentary barbeque cookout for conference participants.

Check out today’s episode of “The Five,” where Amanda Carpenter covers what leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said at the YearlyKos conference and stay tuned for more first-hand reporting on the conference this week.

__Within 18 mths. I was promoted to sgt. I'll be back to this column a little later with more to say,but right now I've got some pressing business. This is one vet,ex-hippy who enlisted during the 'nam war,who loves using this,"most extraordinary invention for empowering ordinary people..."(Deans words)to fight for this republics principles.Dean is trying to "re-democratize" a republic he gained benefit from to keep his liberal band in power. What a joke!

What's the Gripe Here?
Are you complaining about their political views?

You certainly can't be complaining about the tactics of them using blogs to get their points across when you look at what the right winged blogs did vis a vis the immigration issue.

You may not like their ideas, but the concept is WONDERFUL. Average people getting their ideas to politicians. What's wrong with that.

kos klowns
you have to wonder when the novelty of being an angry foul mouthed moron wsears off. I doubt they have the patience to see their "agenda" through. I can understand wanted to see the internet grow but increasing the size of unions seems off agenda. If these so called independent thinkers are pro-union that seems to be contrary to individual initiative and reaping the benefits from one's own production. But calling for universal health care seems socialistic which would indicate their preference for socialism. It seems there is a myriad of issues the are claiming to support. My guess is that after awhile paradise won't arrive, the realities of life will set in and they will discover that giving more tax dollars to the govt for less service won't seem so exciting. It is one thing to work hard for one's own selfish accumulation of wealth. it is quite another to work hard for the missus clinton vision of the common good. I don't believe these selfish self centered idiots are committed for the long haul

kos klowns 2
rallying around howard dean. Other than shared anger I doubt there is any common ground, until the shreiker thinks he will ride their anger to a higher position of power. But anger can only take you so far. Even the kos klowns will demand measureable results and if dean can't deliverf they will toss him aside like a used kleenex. Handy when you needed to blow you nose or wipe your behind but once soiled becomes useless

Peep shows
I won't clog the arteries of my computer with their whining. I don't go to any porn sites; `won't have it. Garbage is garbage.

my 2 cents
to a certified old fart like me this is one scary piece.

Goons
Odd how they moan and groan about Bush's surveillance program yet they want the government to provide universal highspeed internet. Might as well provide universal phone lines too it would certainly simplify the surveillance program.

And why is it that they jeer Hillary when she says she will not forgo support offered from lobbyists yet they want to expand unions. Is the pot calling the kettle black?

Freedom of speech is a great thing...
...and in this case, it illustrates the true character of the Left. Nobody's who's read Kos has the slightest doubt what sort of human beings those are.

Those tolerant Christian founders sure did a remarkable thing when they wrote our Constitution...

THE NEW NETNAZIS, THE KU KLUX KOSsacks..
The hard left moonbats have held their kkkonvention. These outer fringes of society who hide behind anonymous monickers and logons in their dimly lit bunkers, typing feverishly at the keyboards to destroy the pillars of freedom they so call "support" if it fits within their parameters.

Universal health care, mandatory union membership, abortion as a human "right", are only a few extremist positions that these outcasts of society advocate. Not only do they HATE America, but hate the free market as well.

No one has a "right" to health care. Period. I am not responsible for someone who drinks alcohol to the verge of cirrosis of the liver, and needs a liver transplant. They did it to themselves, and so the story goes, the weak die, and the strong survive. And giving free health care to the illegal aliens to drop their anchor babies, and live off the public dole, I don't think so. I am under no obligation to be the caretaker for every bottom feeder of our society.

And for DailyKKKos founder,Markos Moulitsas, who said that the contractors who were murdered in Iraq were mercenaries, what a total hate monger. Watching as Nick Berg, and Paul Johnson were brutally beheadded by these hell bent on destroying the free world, how can Moulitsas make a comment without rebuke?

Just as the Ku Klux Klan terrorized America in the 19th and 20th centuries, we face a new, even more nefarious group that is more dangerous to American liberty than the Klan ever was. But this new version of the Klan doesn't wear the hoods and sheets, or wears the jackboots and armbands either. They wear tie dyes, blue jeans, Birkenstocks, suits. They could be your next door neighbors, your family. This is the newest hate group, the America haters, the new nazis, the Ku Klux Kos-sacks.

Without appologies.......

Do you hate fellow Americans that much?
I would urge all my fellow Americans to use their vote to deny the Kos American-haters their candidates in government. They can spew hatred of the president, which they've done since day one, and then demand credibility under the laws of the Constitution when in fact it is nothing but pure treason, sedition and anarchy. They've managed to get some of their communist-minded cohorts in the courts and an entire dim party and are now hell-bent on the White House.

My fellow Americans, President George Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney, Republicans, Christians and Pro-life advocates are not your enemies. They will always defend your right to debate any issue. But you know these Stalinists will ram their agenda down your throats if you don't stop them now. There are plenty of things to debate from guest-worker vs illegal deportation, union dominance of dues allocation vs free choice, real science vs global warming scare tactics, a mix of social-private health care vs a total social takeover, massive taxation vs tax relief, fairness in the classroom on conservatism and religion vs leftist control, conservative judges vs bench legislation by radical judges, and most important of all, supporting the fight against the real evil of terrorists and their Arab supports or hiding behind a corrupt and inept UN and undermining everything American or our military.

If you've never voted before or seldomly. Now is the time or 40 million Mexicans will control your government and steal your liberty with this leftist minority for many years.

Faster Pussycat - huh?
"What kind of human beings are they? Probably a lot like you. They love. They have hopes and dreams. They have compassion for others (unlike JimDawg, who thinks that he's somehow better than everyone else)."

Yeah, they laugh, they love. They have hopes. In between Exorcist-like vomit-spewing rants, they do those things, you are probably correct.

Even Markos himself wrote a few weeks ago that the "nasty rhetoric" on his site was becoming "a serious breakdown not just on civility, but in the ability of people to properly debate various issues."

Daily Kos makes the Huffington Post look like Aesop's Fables.

Just think if this convention had been
a gathering of conservative bloggers with enough clout to pull in all the right-of-center presidential candidates. Instead of forums like this talking about it and celebrating freedom of speech, the left would be calling for legislation to introduce "fairness" and "equal time" on the internet.

Interesting how they're never interested in fairness and balance when they happen to dominate a particular medium. Newpapers and nightly news? No problem if they have a lock on 90% of it -- that's just capitalism at work. Blogs? No problem -- that's the democracy of the internet at work. But Talk radio? A vast right-wing conspiracy that MUST be stopped.

Can you spell "dyslexic"?

But I will give credit where credit is due. Although I find the ideas expressed at Daily Kos abhorrent, and the language used to express those ideas even worse, they've been effective enough to command the attention of their bullpen of presidential hopefuls.

To indycon
Do you have some kind of a problem with this being a two-party nation? You have called your political opponents "America-haters" and "Stalinists" and said that they "spew hatred", also that they are guilty of "pure treason, sedition, and anarchy". Worse, you have advocated that they must be "stopped". Apparently you think the United States should be a one-party nation that "stops" political opposition and dissent? And that political dissent is the same thing as hate speech?

Some of us Americans do not believe that putting Corporate America in charge of the country makes adequate provision for the weakest among us. Some of believe that a nation should be more than people trying to make a profit from one another. Some of us believe that government should protect the people from corporate greed. Some of us believe that international cooperation is better than trying to establish an empire. Some of us do not believe that our president should behave like an emporer. None of this makes us Stalinists, Communists, Socialists, traitors, or anarchists: we are Americans who don't think like you.

Have you ever considered that showing respect for your fellow Americans---even those who have political opinions different from your own---is the duty of a good citizen?

To nevadamistetc
I am not able to get Rush Limbaugh on my radio (if I could I would listen to him as I recognize him as an important voice in this country, even if I disagree with him). However tonight a TV commentator mentioned that Limbaugh has said that Condoleeza Rice was an affirmative action appointee. One of the few times I have heard him, away from here, he has said similarly outrageous things. I heard him say that Bill and Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster---accusing a sitting president of murder is a fairly strong statement. Another time he was raving because Hillary Clinton was traveling abroad on a mission to women, I think African women, and he thought the government should not be paying for the First Lady to go anywhere. Limbaugh also called for punitive legal action against abusers---illegal users---of drugs---except, of course, when he himself was one such abuser.

To say that right-wing talk radio is offensive and biased and that it veers well away from truth are all understatements. And as for bad language appearing on Kos, I seem to recall that it was Vice-President Dick Cheney who told a Congressman "Go f*** yourself" on the floor of the Congress. And didn't an open microphone catch President Bush calling a reporter an "a**hole"? Using bad language is not unique to Democrats.

The Right is in no position to be holier-than-thou. And, as an article in the Washington Post pointed out last week, the Right wouldn't be so upset about Kos if Kos were not doing a good job of what it set out to do. That same article said that the function of talk radio is not to inform but to mobilize. Maybe that's Kos's job too: and it seems to be mobilizing plenty.

Lilly
I guess you missed the part at the end where I commended DKos for being effective with their constituency and gave credit where credit is due.

I guess you missed the part where I never suggested that conservatives are profanity-free, but did agree with Mr. 'Kos himself that the "nasty rhetoric" on his site was becoming "a serious breakdown not just on civility, but in the ability of people to properly debate various issues."

I guess you missed the part where I suggested that freedom of speech is a good thing even when the views expressed are antithetical to mine.

And I guess you missed the part where I simply asked the left to be consistent with their calls for "fairness."

In short, I guess you missed the essence of my entire post.

FP
Have you ever actually *lived* under UHC?

I have. You might want to try it on for size before extolling its virtues so enthusiastically. Look up AudiR10 on this site (she has her own blog). She's a Canadian living in Toronto and can provide you with a real "insider's look" at how "wonderful" it is.

I lived under it too for 7 years when I was in Canada. It is everything we loathe about managed care, except magnified about 3X. I've pretty much resigned myself that barring a miracle, UHC will be reality in this country in the next 10 years. But I'll go kicking and screaming.

I'm not sure what to expect next from you. This morning, Republicans were to blame for the I-35 bridge disaster. Now, Michael Moore is our patron saint with his message of UHC redemption for all. What's next? An enthusiastic call to adopt the socialized programs of China because 1 out of every 5 people on the planet can't be wrong?

I quite agree we should look to other countries. But in this case it involves learning from their mistakes, not emulating their disasters.

FP - A proposal
How about we socialize your profession? LAW.

Turn all those esquires into public defenders, but extend coverage to all legal matters instead of just crimes? Doesn't every American deserve the same access to legal assistance regardless of means? What about those people losing their homes because they were SUED and couldn't adequately defend themselves? Or maybe the dad who lost his kids to a vengeful mom? Or maybe the retiree living on social security and a meager pension who found that his private property rights were worth exactly nothing compared to Mr. Developer and his millions in taxes that city council covets?

Getting the picture? I can cite all kinds of injustices, but the answer isn't socializing the profession.

I'm not a physician and don't work in the healthcare industry. But I'm wondering if your views would be different if you had an M.D. after your name rather than a J.D.

Although I don't agree with you views, you seem reasonably articulate. So why don't you rise to the occassion and give us a post or two outlining just how much UHC will cost? (Hint: think 12-figures per year for starters.) Then we can talk about "free" healthcare and who really foots the bill.

And we can talk about why physicians in Canada earn about 50% of their US counterparts, and UK physicians about 25% of their US counterparts.

And we can talk about why your profession is overpaid and caters primarily to the haves rather than the have nots, and why socialized, universal legal services are the cure-all to end this obvious inequity.

To Jim, Big Dawg
1) You have called your political opponents Nazis, Ku Klux Klansmen, and "the outcasts of society". So much for respecting your fellow citizens.

2) Every patient needing a liver transplant is not an alcoholic. Some such patients are children. Your attitude that illness is somehow caused by bad behavior is punitive: why?

3) "The strong survive and the weak die": if your wife gives birth to a premature infant, do you propose just letting it die?

4) "I am not responsible": Oh, yes, you are. It goes with being a human being and living in human society.

5) I don't know what you can call contractors who go to Iraq but mercenaries---they voluntarily go into a war zone in order to make huge salaries. They go for money, not for ideology. I have never seen one interviewed on television or in a newspaper who failed to say that he took the job for the money.

6) Legal and safe abortion, collective bargaining through labor unions, and universal health care are legitimate social goals of roughly half the people in this country. The fact that you don't share those goals doesn't make other people "outcasts of society". Do you think that the United States should not a two-party nation?

Lilly the Appologist.........
I have no respect for ANYONE who HATES America. What part of that do you, or Robert, not understand. You people who advocate that everyone should pay for someone else's mistakes advocates exactly what Marx and Engels advocated in the "Communist Manifesto".

Legal and safe abortions for who? So doctors who violate their hypocratic oath can "legally" murder one human for the sake of saving a few bucks for another. Last time I read this, they did something similar in Auchwitz, Buchenwald, Bergen-Belsen....

"Universal health care are legitimate social goals..." Yeah, got you there. Everyone should pay for the rest of society. That's what Marx and Engels advocated too.

Do I hate fellow Americans? No. But when they advocate that I be forced to give what I have to those who will not fend for themselves who are able to, but choose not too, I have a problem with that.

I advocate the decriminalization of drugs. Prohibition never worked. And I see every day where the drug culture has destroyed our neighborhoods. If these drugs were decriminalized, they could be taxed, kept in certain areas where they can be used, take the profit out of it, and those who are going to use them anyway, we are under no obligation to save them. No one forced them to put a needle in their arm. And don't tell me that because of a poor child hood, or "the man" such as "evil corporations" kept them down. What a bunch of bullcrap.....

So as I have said before, I am not responsible for the rest of society. If you cannot take care of yourself, don't expect me to do it. That job goes to families, churches, and to those who want to do such.

Without appologies...........

lilly
When you say "respect" do you mean "civility'? Do you honestly mean to advocate that "respect" be given to every ideology that comes down the pike, or are you longing for a more civil discourse between those of differing viewpoints?

Respect is a commodity that must be purchased, it is not free. Civility, on the other hand, can come as a matter of course.

for indyconantidim
indyconantidim writes: "My fellow Americans, President George Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney, Republicans, Christians and Pro-life advocates are not your enemies. They will always defend your right to debate any issue."

That's not true, not in my experience.

In 2006, I was kicked off of the right-wing blog LittleGreenFootballs.com, solely because I posted that in my opinion we were not winning the war in Iraq. That's all I claimed, and I said it in a civil way and defended my position with evidence even from other RIGHT-WING websites. I was immediately slammed by all the other posters there, who called me "traitor," "appeaser," and other names that I cannot repeat here. I I was told "STFU! STFU!" over and over. Combined with calls to the moderator to have my account removed as a "troll."

And I'm not the only one. On LittleGreenFootballs.com, until Bush even alienated them with his immigraiton bill, saying ANYTHING negative about the Iraq War or about Bush led to your having your account and password removed so you would be banned from the blog.

On another right-wing blog, FreeRepublic.com, the Freepers purged--banned--every poster who is supporting Giuliani for President.

That's how they act. On forums where conservatives are in charge, they reject serious discussion with a variety of viewpoints. A deadly conformity has resulted, where the posters just constantly agree with each other and with the blog moderator.

lilly
"accusing a sitting president of murder is a fairly strong statement."

Just out of curiosity, do you then stand up for George Bush when left-wingers, such as those on the DailyKos, call him a murderer.

lilly
Further, I agree with Jim, Bigg Dawgg.

What is so wrong with not wanting the government to control my life?

There's a dangerous epidemic in our country. And it's the people who feel that government and their fellow American's are obligated to provide for them rather than taking some personal responsibility.

Australian Healthcare System
Faster Pussycat says
As for universal health care, the Australians pay less than half of what we do...
------------------
As an Australian I think this is written by someone who has not fully understood the situation in Australia.
It is true that Australians pay a 1.5% Medicare Tax for socialized medicine. What is not generally understood is that this does not cover the cost of socialized medicine. To fully cover the cost of socialized medicine the tax rate would need to be closed to 8%.
This does cover emergency situations in a very timely manner, as well as routine doctors visits. The main problem with the system is that everything else is based on a waiting list.

If your kid tears an ACL on the playground at school, it was not uncommon for the waiting list to be two years before surgery could be scheduled. Try telling your six year old that he is going to be in pain for the next two years because the government can't afford the surgery right now. I'm sure he will understand.

So if you can afford it, private health insurance is available. We could not afford it growing up. The benifit, you could have the surgery done at your convenience. How is next Monday for you?

It is not just a problem on the demand side of the equation. The government sets the billing rate for services. I remember within the last few years that the rate was so low that doctors were closing their clinics and leaving towns without any doctors because the rates were too low to be able to live on. I guess the wait time for emergency treatment got longer too.

The Australian system might offer some insights to Universal Healthcare but I am not sure that it is the insight that the Left wants to focus on.

Imagine, every hospital run like Walter Reed.

Welcome to Universal Healthcare.

You guys realize...
How stupid you look when you actually believe what bill oreilly says - don't you?

why is the left's anger more relevant that reasoned argument. We hear these are political neophytes who have a vast agenda they would like to see enacted. There seems to be some conflicting proposals but what happens if there particular issue gets pushed off the table what does that do for their current unity. It seems that anger and reason are conflicts in themselves. Reason seems to be somewhat patient, anger wants immediate results. Perhaps this new movement is more of a fad without legs

In reference to some of your remarks about the dailykos, etc. If I posted a conservative view would it be posted or deleted?? I've read some of the posts and word for word it is vile and does spew hatred. None of the nastiests posts here even come close.
As for universal health care, doesn't work, sorry. Living on the Canadian border I see Canadian plates at our testings sites and hospitals. The Cleveland Clinic does a booming Canadian business. Our cancer institute has a motel next to the hospital for Canadians.
I do believe it is still against the law for Canadians to pay for private medical care. It is not the answer.
Audi, am I correct or not??

__In Amanda's article, she points out,the extreme left has grow from the late '60's,early 70's, hippy generation, into the "radical 21st century online force" of today. With that point I agree, has the left side, spewing liberal propagana, are overwhelmingly the offspring of the hippy generation that never got a clue.A generation that reaped the benefit of liberal legislation as it eased personal responsibility to community, state, and nation. Equality, and democracy, became key words in the lefts drive to blind the public, has they secured positions of power and wealth. The passions of the peace, and love generation, were easily manipulated by power hungry factions in this nation. We even hear Howard Dean still reinforcing the lie has he spouts "the ’net,... has re-democratized America." Dean refers to the nets resource, and abilities, has"an enormous shift in power.”, as if it empowers the left, and the left alone.I guess,in the liberal left world, its a great tool to empower ones ability to lie, slander, and opine half truths, has those who accept their opinions never turn the page.

It is quite simply the fact that the world is chock full of whores who follow any promise of satifaction and many of the folks who post herein are weary of combating massive quantities of robots.
Face it ... what do liberals espouse, certainly not personal responsibility.

What do conservatives say ..
essentially ... Go Away, don't go away mad .. just go away.

Thanks for posting to provide a reality check for Faster Pussycat. I gave a short summary of my 7-year experience in Canada living under UHC. AudiR10 of this site can provide an even more in-depth look as she lives in Toronto and has her own cache of horror stories.

The UK requires no deep dive because it is so utterly broken that even a casual observer can see it (notice how the UK is never held up as a "model" and only the places where UHC has more recently been employed are cited? Maybe that's because it takes time to fully break something. The less time UHC has been in effect, the better it looks...it hasn't had time to come to full fruition yet. In contrast, the UK has had 40+ years to show us the "glory" of UHC.)

So, FP if you are reading this post, my earlier posts, and Skiddles' post, we eagerly await your sage wisdom since you apparently know more about how good UHC is for us than those who have actually had the misfortune to live under it.

if yiu visited any of the libs sites after fallwells death it was truly disgusting the hatred that spilled forth about his life and the joy that they were celebrating his death. Even Larry Flynnt had kind words for fallwell's passing and claimed that after their lawsuit ended up before the supremes they became friends and conducted joint debates about the issue that first brought them together. The group thast released the information about the energy use of alldull had their names and addresses posted on the internet and they recieved threats of violence for telling the truth about the energy pig. These libs can claim peace and brotherhood but it extends only to their circle. Everyone else is the enemy and must be either defeated or abused. Strange how similar libs are to islamists and their remedies for dealing with critisism or perceived enemies

A lot of what bothers me about Daily Kos
is the median age of the bloggers and commenters. Take a look at the videos of the "YearlyKos" powwow and you'll see what I mean. Age doesn't always bring wisdom, but when you are in your 20s, you still don't know what you don't know. If you think you do, wait till you're pushing 50. Things will look different.

Yeah, the 20-somethings may be able to write with great wit, biting sarcasm, and generous helpings of the f-word, but that isn't the same thing as really understanding the linkage between policy, ideology, posture, and reality. Or the kind of "utopia" we'll all live in if they truly got the kind of world they are clamoring for.

Many of these folks are just pups. And this is the tail that is wagging the Democrat dog?

Scary.

WildWest
What other extremist group claims to be peaceful, but is only peaceful to likeminded looneys?

Why it is none other than The Murdering Muslims!

wildwest
ah yes. Tolerance, love, diversity, and inclusiveness are carefully crafted words that -- like many liberal semantics -- have very different meanings than what you'll find in the dictionary.

A lot like reading Animal Farm all over again where words like "equal" have special nuances that only the enlightened can understand.

Uncle Max

You're right -- the piece scared the bejabbers out of me!

One might think the Daily Kos-sacks would like to do to TH and other conservative sites what the Don Kossaks did to the shtettles.

Town Hall Diversity
I actually try to read Kos once in a while. It is very difficult as the posts and comments are all the same all the time. It's very boring and the arguments simply don't come to any understandable conclusion.
Bad words really don't bother me that much here or there---I think it renders that person's comment moot.
Still here we have all kinds---lots of different opinions from several angles.
Even the somewhat conservative posts at Kos are gone within the first three minutes.
I hesitate to think what they would do to people like me if they ever do get complete power.

It's wierd
During the 90s when prop radio heads like Limbaugh, Savage, etc. were spewing half-truths and hatred on a daily basis, creating an entire industry in radio rage, when an entire office of lawyers was paid to do nothing but find a way to bring down Clinton (including accusations of murder), and when a group of conservative vets lied through their teeth about a democratic candidate in order to win an election, it was all considered healthy debate, it was the "nice and polite" conservatves that Blustrmom is so proud of.

Now that Dems have regained a voice, and some power, this "healthy" debate has become dangerous, and a threat to the country. What you are feeling, my friends, is your toes being pinched while the shoe is being forced onto your other foot.

also
looking back up through this thread, I notice that all of the venom has come from the right - my case has been made for me.

jojo
return from your alternate universe. The repubs did not bring clinton down. Clinton brought himself down. It was his misbehavior and his breaking the law that caused all his difficulties. But I guess surborning perjury don't count as a crime in your world. Less we forget the way he closed out his term with selling pardons.

How Ironic
That the DailyKos crowd actually used this talking point in their speech

"DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas delivered the conference’s closing address Saturday.

So even the hard liberal left is now admitting that they had to use coerced CONSERVATIVE fence jumpers to win??? That's NOT a ringing endorsement of the liberal cause now is it? So a RAZOR THIN victory with a conservative light candidate....humm? Not sure he should have owned up to that one.

I just hate it
As a long time conservative I've never hated anyone--not even Clinkton. Every thread at Kos has the "hate Bush, hate Bush, hate Bush" even when the subject is something else entirely. Really that gets a little old----why hate?
And then along comes Jo wanting revenge and trying to threaten those who disagree with him. (Though the shoe on the other foot thing is rather childish)
Hey--just found out my Exxon dividend is going up again---hooray!!
It's fun to be a conservative!

Wildwest
I never said that conservatives brought Clinton down. I aid that they spent millions of dollars and tons of hate trying to bring him down. In the end, Clintons rating were higher than ever, so it looks like their attempts resulted in their usual success.

BTW, since you are so tender-hearted about perjury, I'm sure you're as vindictive about Gonzales and Libby.

SSregret
Potatoe Wedge head???????????

I had a distinct feeling that this blog was favored by 6 to 12 year olds - thanks for proving it.

It's funny, liberals like me don't have to actually insult anybody to make a point - if one just waits long enough, conservatives are all too anxious to reveal their intellectual and philosophica limitations. They don't really need any help.

Jo Jo
"It's funny, liberals like me don't have to actually insult anybody to make a point"

Then what do call it when a DailyKos contributor such as A. Whitney Brown calls American soldiers "morally retarded"? Is that not considered an insult? Is that not also considered politically incorrect?

jojo
So who is to say the "conservative" vets weren't telling the truth and Kerry's Kommandos were the ones who lied through their teeth? Now for myself I've always said I wasn't there in Kerry's AO, some folks were and say one thing other folks were and have a different version, but me personally I don't know for sure cause I wasn't there. Maybe you were there and can tell us who is lieing and who isn't.

Speaking of lieing through their teeth to affect an election, did you just not want to mention Mr. Rather and his memo, or did that slip your mind?

When did an entire office of lawyers bring murder charges against Bill Clinton? I thought they were after him for lieing about having sex with "that woman", of course he didn't think it was a lie because he didn't feel like that particular act qualified as sex, "Oh you mean did we do that? Well yeah, but that isn't really sex is it?" Bet his wife thought it was.

And now that the Democrats have regained their voice we find they never had anything constructive to say to begin with.

And all of ya'll can laugh...
...but my stock in Alcoa and Reynolds Wrap nearly doubled last week.

jojo
again you are delusional. Hatred of clinton did not cause his problems. Clinton;s ego and stupidity caused all his problems. His biggest fault was taking legal advice from his missus who was more concerned about his public image and thought they could hide behind the presidentcy to stop his legal problemsYopu libs cannot face the truth and still believe that clinton was innocent of all charges. Even if the senate had found him guilty and voted to remove him from office, that would have brought alldull to the presidentcy. But like all libs when confronted with one issue you quickly change the subject to something else. Libby was found guilty in a questionable trial. Gonzalez has not been accused of a crime except by the press and the wackos on the left

Jo Jo
EXCUSE ME! You threatened me!

Wildwest
Gee, how did I know you would defend both Libby and Gonzales? It's not because you're biased, is it? BTW, Clinton hadn't been accused of a crime, either, remember? He was impeached for lying under oath, just like Gonzales. In liberal world sex is still not a crime, even when serial players like Gingrich and Giuliani take full advantage of it.

Libby's trial was not questionable, except to people who haven't read the transcripts or have just taken the word of other conservatives.

WildWest
I guess JoJo, The Gutless Wonder, bugged out!

It might be more comfortable for you to reduce the swifties to a he-said, she-said situation, but in fact, the vet who said that he was the attending physician that day has a signature and name that didn't come close to matching the actual forms filled out by the real doctor.

__Like a deer caught in the headlights, the left stammers in wonder.Which way do I run to save my skin, or maybe if I just stand still I won't be seen.Kind of between a rock, and a hard place.Sitting there with your hand in the Kos cookie jar,and saying you not eating the cookies. As Kristen Powers told Mr. O'Reilly,"whether he liked it or not the left is a powerful part of the Dem Party.",and that powerful faction will be the destruction of the democrat party. For their power is limited by the republican form of government, and this union.Their propaganda cannot reach every American,as it is a contained vehicle operating within its abilities.Where as, those that speak of its propaganda, and motives, are not limited to a single vehicle from which they can expose the truths.Kos sits there on a web page with words to be read, and absorbed, according to individual interpretation. The meat behind the view portrayed on the stagnant screen can only be consumed by those who view, and accept it.When those views are spotlighted by those who do not accept its propaganda, it is shown for what it is.PROPAGANDA for the base.

these libs need to quit getting their facts from comic books. The intellectually challenged jojo insists that clinton committed no crime. Of course this shows the depth of their understanding of the law and the circumstances. Old news but then this is their total basis for their hatred of bush. Of course saint bubba never did anything wrong but the repubs crucified him out of vengence and jealousy for his getting monica'd. And still these morons think they possess the mentality to elect leaders and make the tough decisions to run this country. Those who are now getting the facts from kos will never understand fact or reason but will be guided by their most selfish emotion. Revenge against the system that kept both alldull and kerry from the white house. But even if successful when they don't get their imagined socialist paradise they will have new enemies and will turn on their new masters in the dim party who they naively think they have under control. But that is the fallacy of youth. With no money and no power they can spout about their newly found power only to discover they are merely a bunch of sadly informed yackers , convenient to have around come election time but forgotten and ignored the day after the election.

Huh?

"The intellectually challenged jojo insists that clinton committed no crime."

Wild, do you have dyslexia or what? Where did I ever say that Clinton committed no crime? This is exactly what makes these TH food fights such a waste of time.

If it were possible to draw pictures, I would, but what I said was that Clinton's crime was lying under oath, not sex. It's really boring to have to keep pointing out constant mis-quotes.

Not even your name-calling is clever or original. At least I could appreciate some true wit.

__The point I was making is the obnoxious points of view, and language, presented by those who post on Kos can only be viewed by those with access to the net.Their power is limited to embrace those of the same mindset. When you have those of this republics principles viewing obnoxious rhetoric against those principles it can be, and is,a greater power.A webpage in,and of itself, has no power. You can print it,you can talk about it,but if the words on paper,or verbally expressed, cannot stand on there own,its worthless. The audience O'Reilly reaches, and the audiences of sites such as Townhall,is of greater power. While these audiences may include those buying the propaganda spewed by Kos,it is a national audience that hears of obnoxious propaganda. The web page, the printed proof,is stagnant. It has no power to defend its obnoxious language.Otherwise you would see the MSM proudly displaying its rhetoric, and speaking of its benefit for this nation. But no,it is much more comforting,to those of obnoxious behavior,to hide behind a screen, under a blanket,or behind closed doors.

Jo Jo...
you didn't answer my question... please do... I'm very curious...

GOPgin
Sure, I hardly ever read Daily Kos so I'm not familiar with the statement or the person who made it, but I'' take your word for it.

Of course I think it's a dumb statement, if he said that all American troops were "morally retarded." If he said that the group of GIs who raped a 14 year old and then murdered her and her family in Haditha, I would agree. I would agree even if they weren't in the American Army.
I would say that the pair of losers who raped and murdered the Connecticut family last week are morally retarded.

Did you personally read this on DailyKos? Was it recent? I'll see if I can look it up.

GOPgin
Well,I looked, and couldn't find the original piece but I did find a long and thoughtful response to it, so it sounds like he (or she) was referring to US GIs in general, which is pretty stupid for alot of reasons, not the least of which is that all generalizations are stupid.

I did look through alot of the columns and posts, though, admittedly in a hurry, and my basic impression is what is always has been, that by and large Daily Kos and posters are not as obsessed with conservatives as the reverse. In fact, Kos is fearlessly critical of Dems, which is something I've never seen on TH. If you read down the list of TH columns on any particular day, most of them seem to be about Dems and liberals. (All negative, of course, and full of generalizations). This fixation doesn't seem to be as common on liberal blogs, they seem more issue-oriented.

jojo
I wasn't aware you were limiting your wrath to just one vet, was my impression there were several of them Never heard the one about different doctors to be honest with you. Of course I can see how only the one supporting the opinion we want justified can be classified as "real". Nice touch.

My dislike for Kerry has nothing to do with what I am most comfortable with. I happen to be a veteran of the time frame as Mr. Kerry and what he did to portray vets in congress is not something that sets well with me at all. That is not a "he said-she said", I have never liked people making remarks on Kerry's record but when he got in front of congress he either lied or is a self professed war criminal, those are the only two choices. Personally I think he is a liar, him going into politics only reinforces that belief.

By the way Gonzales, and I'm no real fan of this man, but he hasn't been accused of lying under oath. He has been accused of evasive answers and responses not in line with what the inquisitors want to hear. The only thing Gonzo needed to say is that "The judges serve at the pleasure of the President and can be dismissed at any time", end of statement. But no, this Bozo is a politician who wants his picture on the front page as long as he can and the best way to do it is be evasive to Congress.

Did we ever determine how you felt about that whole Dan Rather thing and memos and trying to affect elections? Jusat curious if your indignation is heart felt or reserved for those causes we feel are worthy of it.

By the way, not that it matters but the "r" in my name is lower case.

In response to Lilly----------
Lilly at 12:04 AM wrote: "Some of us Americans do not believe that putting Corporate America in charge of the country makes adequate provision for the weakest among us. Some of believe that a nation should be more than people trying to make a profit from one another. Some of us believe that government should protect the people from corporate greed. Some of us believe that international cooperation is better than trying to establish an empire. Some of us do not believe that our president should behave like an emperor. None of this makes us Stalinists, Communists, Socialists, traitors, or anarchists: we are Americans who don't think like you."

Lilly, I am a conservative well to the right of Genghis Khan, a military veteran and a biblical Christian, so you will be amazed to learn that I agree with the above quote.

Like you, I do not believe in putting Corporate America in charge of anything because they are largely duplicitous incompetents deserving a good ol' Texas horsewhipping that I would delight in administering in any courthouse in the land. Same goes for government at any and every level, however, only more so. More to follow-----

Response to Lilly-------
Like you, Lilly, I believe that we should be interested in much more than making a living. We should be interested in showing kindness and loving care to family, friends and even perfect strangers. Using the enormous power of government to force people to take care of others, however, does not qualify as showing love and kindness. Socialism is actually a form of gross evil. Love comes from the voluntary choices of redeemed people, not from the barrel of a government gun.

Like you, I believe our justice system should protect people from deceitful, greedy corporations who claim they can't survive without being underhanded in their business dealings. Government at all levels should constantly bring charges against cheating business people until they get the message, straighten up and fly right.

Response to Lilly------------
Like you, Lilly, I believe that international cooperation is superior to empire building, however, I do not believe that gaining international cooperation through selling out our own worthy national interests is wise since that is only another form of treason. Iraq does not qualify as empire building, by the way; it seems to be a serious though perhaps well-intended mistake by a good ol’ boy fellow Texan who appears not to have much going for him between the ears. Saddam needed to be put out of business, of course, but not with a loony invasion.

Like you, I do not believe the president should behave like an emperor. Furthermore, I believe he would behave like an emperor were he to cram liberal policies down our tiny gullets. Come to think of it, he has tried that on occasion (immigration policy, imprudent fiscal policy), so it would seem he actually does qualify as having an emperor mentality.

Response to Lilly---------------
None of these views seen from the vantage point of sure sanity makes you a baddie, Lilly. Seen from the perspective of shallow, selfish liberalism, however… now that would become an entirely different matter indeed.

TO ALL DAILYKKKOS KOOL AID DRINKERS....
Since you guys ADVOCATE BIG GOVERNMENT, how do you expect to pay for it? Oh, I see everyone else other than you. Sorry redunant question.....

Let me clarify, that means make it easy for you BIG GOVERNMENT loving socialists understand my point of view.

Big government BAAAD! Free markets and Liberty, GOOOD! See isn't that easy?

But seriously, when has ANY governmental program ever worked the way it was intended? They spend $24,000 for a toilet seat, $500 for a cheap Chinese made hammer, and we are supposed to trust them with "giving" everyone free health care? No Thank You......

All you socialists, oh I mean "liberals", are supposed to be for choice. But according to your warped way of thinking, you can choose for the rest of society. Again, NO THANKS. I am a big kid now, and can wipe my own butt without big governmental intervention.......

I believe in individual responsibility. You are FREE to do whatever floats your boat, so as long as your boat doesn't interfere with mine. But all those DailyKKKos Kool Aid Drinkers are the Sixties Degenerates who never amounted to anything but breeding another generation of dope smoking couch potatoes sucking the life blood out of the public teet.

You have a right to state your OPINION, but don't deal in half truths and hyperbole. Be specific when coming to TH to post your "facts". Your Bush Derangement Syndrome is really getting old. It's time to let go the 2000 election. You still lost, get over it.

Enough is enough. If you HATE America so much, leave.....

I was under the impression that all these hip internet types were the future entrpeneurs who would devise these new businesses through their knowledge and ability to deliver technology in new and different ways. Doesn't it seem contrary to all logic that new busineeses would like to see themselves taxed out of existence is order to underwrite this socialist utopia they are cheering for

Leroy
Sorry about getting your name wrong - I grew up in Minnesota and the capital R was so common I just do it automatically.

It's hard for me to remember all the details about the Swiftboaters now, but I know they were all very well connected to Republican donors and operatives, and they all had to know that the vet who claimed to be the attending physician was lying. I also remember that there were some vets who refused to sign it, saying that it was not truthful. At the time, that got very little press as 9/11 had happened and Bush was on a roll.

I was not a huge fan of Kerry for several reasons. At the time of the Viet Nam war I was opposed to it, and still think it was a mistake, but I was never the angry, vet-baiting protester that is so popular in the cultural imagination. As for Kerry, I felt that he was too obviously opportunistic in many ways (politics is about opportunism, but it shouldn't be so raw)and I could believe that his opportunism could lead to dishonesty. Although his appearance in congress during the war wasn't that appalling to me at the time I can definitely see why it was for you. It's odd to be thinking about this now, I was so young then, and everything seemed to be so intertwined with what we saw as our personal morality, but issues seemed so clear and simple.

(continued)

continued
But lying can be complicated - I was embarrassed for Kerry when he was photographed in fatigues, on a hunting trip - it seemed nakedly dishonest, which in a big way, it was. This is what I feel about Gonzales, he kept claiming loss of memory over and over, which is not possible - therefore, blatant lies which he seemed to stick in the face of every congressman at the hearing, if he had just flipped them the bird it couldn't have been more obvious. Then, when Bush went public to say that G. had done a "great job" it was like being flipped off a second time, it seemed they were both saying, "Yes, we are lying, you can just eat it."

Was G. under oath during those hearings? I really don't remember.

Leroy
As for the 60 minutes thing, I didn't really believe Rather knew the information was false, but I didn't make up my mind until I heard and read several accounts of what happened. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not that I think this kind of stuff never happens, on both sides. My aunt and uncle were conservative and hated Rather after he had an interview with Bush 1 in which he was apparently very confrontational. I often wondered if this incident, which got a lot of attention at the time, didn't poison the well for Rather ever after, so that even people who weren't old enough to have seen the interview judged him in a certain way.

Swift Boat Vets & Rather
After it was clear that the information Rather used regarding GWB and his service was false, Rather insisted that the story was true anyway because in his words, "it hasn't been proven wrong." If the articles in question that were later available through the internet were the actual ones CBS news used -- they did not prove the allegations made.

At the same time the MSM never looked at clear evidence -- presented on Kerry's own site -- that his original discharge was less than honorable. It is extremely unlikely that it was dishonorable, but it was less than honorable.

The comments of the Swift boat vets concerned a lot more that one signature of a physician. They clearly pointed out that Kerry was not the military genius and hero that he and the Democratic Pary made him out to be. I've read his book and I do not see anything that would qualify him for the Silver Star. He was getting shot at? That happens in war and that does not justify the Silver Star. Based on my experience on awards and decorations boards, I would guess that the reason he was awarded the Silver Star was based more on how well the justification was written rather than its contents. As these awards move up the chain of command they are seen by people without any personal knowledge of the subject or the individual and how well the justification is written becomes more important in their decision to approve, downgrade or disapprove the award.

Clyde9

Clyde 9
The comments of the Swift Boat Veterans were bought and paid for, if not literally then figuratively by the Bush Campaign Committee. If Kerry had thrown himself on a live grenade, they would have said the same thing. It wasn't just the physician report, which was a blatant and deliberate lie that they all participated in - it was an organized, dishonest trash-fest in which several members of this group refused to participate. The statement "was not the military genius and hero he was made out to be" is deliberately vague and a cheesy, sleazy attempt to smear another veteran. Every single one of those vets had direct connections to the Republican party prior to the election; every single one had something personal to gain.

Lies and more lies.
By the time the election was over, the Swifties had damaged themselves almost as much as they did Kerry, but the sleaziness continued: Sam Fox, who gave them $50,000 to make up their story for the press, was rewarded by Bush with an Ambassadorship. Bob Perry, a Texas developer who knew several of them personally, had given them almost 5 million to put on their show. They were ultimately fined by the FEC for lying; and a respected commander (O'Neill somebody) of the unit Kerry was in personally denounced the entire spectacle as a pathetic and ill-conceived debacle.

in the words of George S. Patton....
You won't have to say "I shoveled sh-t in Chicago. Unless you were at the WeirdlyKos.

HEY ROBERT......
Did you ever serve in the military? You probably didn't. So you have no standing in this arena.....

Although I have severe disagreements with GWB, wtf would you call serving in the Air National Guard? Just because KKKerry went to Vietnam, he is by far NO HERO..... By the way, wtf was your socialist hero, Bubba Klinton during the Vietnam War? In London burning American flags, and loathing the military.

By alleging attrocities caused by "Americans" such as machine gunning civlians, raping, burning, etc., either KKKerry is a pathetic liar, or he is a gdmfing war criminal. Which is it Kool Aid Kiddy?

God Bless the Swift Boat Veterans. They did our country a great service, and not only during the Vietnam War either.

So either know what you are talking about, or shut your piehole.......

Without appologies.......

Hey Jim
I didn't know the army had a charm school.

I DON'T TRUST ANY OF THE SOB'S....
So here we go again, so I will say this slower so Robert, Jo Jo, Faster "Daily Fizz" Pussycat can comprehend. I Don't Trust Any of Those SOB'S. Get it now????

If you want to blame those for allowing this country to slip into the socialist craphole, take a good look in the mirror, you are the problem. Instead of trying to continue to complain how fdup our country is, get up your la and work to make things better. It's not going to get done hiding in your bunkers, and hiding behind a computer logon.

Either dump, or get off the pot. Both parties are to blame for this mess, but the DemocRATS are faster at achieving the goals. So enough is enough.

Without appologies..........

Jim
AAw, Jim,

You're so deep.

Jo Jo
Where is your evidence the swift boat veterans lied? Having someone provide the funds to get their story out does not translate to having been bought out.

They served with Kerry, they saw him in action. They knew what the truth was and they told it.
