Reid: "I'm a total dum dum... also time to exploit Teddy or something..."

In life and in death...

Glenn Thrush of Politico says Harry Reid has a way of saying the most non-controversial things in the most controversial way possible.

Agreed.

Ted Kennedy, Political Miracle, Dead at 77
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 9:45 AM
http://d.yimg.com/a/p/rids/20090826/i/r1015134548.jpg?x=367&y=345&q=85&sig=yCrAPd2SfzA9_kODAzMxlQ--
Lion sleeps tonight...

There were fewer politicians over a longer period of time I have had less respect for than Edward Kennedy. I never grasped the fascination that the people of Massachusetts held for him. I never grasped the status he was given and the acclaim people felt he was due.

And while I respectfully express my condolences for the family members who will spend the next weeks mourning their loss, I can't help but ask the question, "What was the significance of his life?"

Hopefully his wife and children will tell us about a husband and father that defied the public image, but that public image--in my mind is bad... horrible even.

Many will refer to the "end of Camelot" as he is the final person named Kennedy to be serving in high federal office. But in reality Kennedy was an embarrassment to the most famous Kennedy, the same to his party, the same to his nation, and the same to his family.

His "youthful indiscretion" ended up with a woman dead at the bottom of a river, while he walked away, and everyone related to the case--with pockets lined--so as to keep their mouths shut.

Against better judgment he ran for President against a very weak incumbent and by necessity of his entry into the primary (and near victory), he made an already horrible Jimmy Carter appear even weaker, and thus Reagan cruised to victory.

He has consistently--in keeping with the tradition of his father--sided against America in many of the greatest conflicts she has faced. He like his fellow Massachusetts Senate colleague has consistently besmirched the motives, purpose, and operations of the American soldier.

And on public policy he could not have stood in more stark contrast to his brother John F. Kennedy.

It is indeed a sad day for the Kennedy clan. A beloved patriarch is gone. But for the nation, Kennedy's legacy is not even a mixed bag. It was an embarrassment, and I trust and hope that we are given a proper chance to recover from his impact in the days to come.

A New Conservative Agenda Can Trump Democrats’ Three Agendas
Posted by: Tom DeLay at 10:53 AM
This is my column that first ran in Roll Call last week...subscription required, but full text below.

The word agenda has two related but distinct political definitions. The first meaning is superficial, as in, “The agenda for this week will be ...” That is, what a political leader or constituency wants to do. The second is deeper, as in, “What’s their agenda?” That means, what does a political leader or constituency really want to do?

Obama's ONLY policy on night one...
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 10:25 AM
'And so with Barack Obama -- for you and for me, for our country and for our cause – the work begins anew, the hope rises again, and the dream lives on,' Kennedy concluded, reprising his famous 1980 convention speech.

"And this is the cause of my life, new hope, that we will break the old gridlock, and guarantee that every American, north, south, east, west, young, old, will have decent quality health-care as a fundamental right and not a privilege. We can meet this challenge with Barack Obama, yes we can, and finally yes we will."

These were the rousing words, spoken by Senator Edward Kennedy, that lit up the faces of the attendees to the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. (It was also the only policy pledge made over the duration of the entire night.)

Senator Kennedy's words, like so many who pledge government freebies, sounded spectacular, generous, even utopian.

The challenge of course ends up in the reality that in order to achieve what he promises Senator Kennedy knows that the quality of care will diminish and the cost for everyone will increase. Nothing is given away for free, and no one should have a universal right to health.

Our health, like our bank account, is something we need to steward. That responsibility begins with us, not the Government.

Senator Kennedy also left out one more important aspect of the matter. The law already guarantees emergency care for all Americans.

So no one is presently denied life-saving medical care, though Senator Kennedy's candidate for President Barack Obama did once radically vote to deny such care to children who had been born

See morons THIS is an ethics scandal... not delivering babies... for free!

"I am not a crook."

As if the GOP needed any help in the rocking scandal department in the last election cycle...

The sad thing is - it is stories like this that cause decent men to keep from running for office, and decent men who are already there get stung with the same broad assumptions.

Surely - especially if Tom Coburn isn't even allowed to deliver babies pro-bono, then surely Ted Stevens knew from his 40 years in office that getting an America's Extreme Home Makeover on his home for nada - qualified as fishy...

Many readers think I'm inconsistent in my criticism of wrong doing on the "conservative" side of the aisle...

Well to you who think that way hear me when I say, "throw the book at him!"

Lessons from Ted Kennedy's brain tumor...

Bad diagnosis...

The doctors for United States Senator Ted Kennedy are stating that he is victim to a malignant brain tumor.

This is never a good thing.

Today, conservative - even church going - Christians across America (including the President) will pray for Kennedy's health and outcome.

A stark contrast indeed to what liberals would do if this same diagnosis was given to President Bush, where no doubt shouts of glee would be uttered at the dramatic worsening of an "opponent's" outlook.

Ted Haggard Escort: I had sex with Sen. Larry Craig for $200 in Denver.
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 12:10 PM

"I walk pretty... oh so pretty..."

8 additional men, four of whom have been willing to go public, are telling their stories of sexual encounters with disgraced and convicted Idaho Senator Larry Craig. One - the same male escort that brought down prominent evangelical Ted Haggard.

This blog has been consistent in its contempt for Senator Craig's either complete carelessness or his willful choice to deceive. As now there are ten accusations that he has yet to address it seems increasingly more like the latter...

By NOT resigning and NOT allowing the people's elected Governor of Idaho help put in a candidate in his place that could gain some positive momentum before the elections in 2008, he practically dooms Idaho voters in 2009.

RESIGN LARRY! You owe it to the people of America! And you promised you would!

DEMS Anti-A.G. strategy: pummel 911 Widower...
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 7:48 PM

Harry Reid is pledging to pummel the potential nomination of Solicitor General Ted Olson should the President decide to nominate him for Attorney General.

Yes... Heaven forbid we allow someone whose wife was murdered by the terrorists of 9/11 actually prosecute the prosecution of the animals in the War On Terror in the American courts.

Reid's childishness is silly. Make a pre-emptive statement about not confirming him before you've even let his credentials be heard? What a pompous windbag!

People like Harry Reid are the reason so many people HATE politicians. No logic, no justification, no explanation - just pure prejudice and moronic stupidity.

Well here's what President Bush should do in retaliation to Reid: NOMINATE RICK SANTORUM!

(The Senate has never denied a colleague for nomination confirmation.)

That way President FRED can put Ted Olson on the United States Supreme Court!

Cat-Scratch Politics
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 10:07 AM
You know, sometimes you get back from vacation, and it's a little hard to get back into the swing of things. Somehow, Rove's resignation isn't as all-fired important as it would have been the week before, and Iowa polling seems a tad less sexy than it once was.

When that happens, you can only pray to be inspired like this:
For all of his wild-man antics, the politically conservative Nugent is talking about following in the footsteps of celebrities such as actor Arnold Schwarzenegger or wrestler Jesse Ventura, who won gubernatorial races.

"That would be beautiful," Nugent said when asked if he would run for governor of Michigan in 2010. "I have threatened to do so and I was sincere."
I think he'd probably have to tone down his rhetoric before a run. Although the Real Tree uniform and preoccupation with firearms and electric guitars couldn't hurt, could they?
