"Hi I'm going to prison, and my name is John Edwards"

The Have's and the Have Not's

Two Americas?

You betcha. One that uses campaign money to buy off their mistress. And everybody else.

But we're CERTAIN that Edwards would NEVER have used money for something it wasn't allowed to be used for... right:
"I am confident that no funds from my campaign were used improperly," Edwards said in a statement. "However, I know that it is the role of government to ensure that this is true. We have made available to the United States both the people and the information necessary to help them get the issue resolved efficiently and in a timely matter. We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of those involved and look forward to a conclusion."
Well of course we can remember when he said this?

The Associated Press reported today that Edwards told reporters, "The story is false. It's completely untrue, ridiculous. I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years," Edwards added, about his wife Elizabeth, who is suffering from incurable cancer, "and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."

Only to be forced to say:

In a written statement Friday, Edwards said, "In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness."

So yeah let's all give him the benefit of the doubt... for certainly anyone who would lie to the one they love can be trusted on money...

Right?

Michael Barone: Exit Poll Error running as high as 11% in Obama's favor
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 8:33 PM
[fox_news-795681.jpg]
"WPE"

Amanda Carpenter reported that MSNBC has already called Pennsylvania for Obama... here's the reason why Fox News had not. (They now have...)

Michael Barone when asked by Brit Hume why they had not - was due to something called "WPE".

It stands for "within precinct error" and means the difference between the exit polls and the actual vote count.

Barone said, shockingly - "WPE is running as high as 11% in positive numbers for Obama."

Meaning exit polls mean zip... which we had been telling you all this time.

Obama's slum dwelling Aunt--ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT--and forced to cough up for THE ONE's campaign!.
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 7:34 PM

I was hungry and you did not feed me...

Barack Obama has made millions in recent years. In fact to be precise its more like something along the lines of - $3.75 million since 2000:

Only after he decided he would run for federal office did he begin giving more than 1% of his total wealth to those in need.

What's more astounding as has been reported by many is that while his brother pictured above living in a slum in Kenya currently is trying to survive on a dollar a week, is that Barack Obama never thought to send him so much as a Christmas card with a $100 in cash that would have essentially tripled his earnings for the year. He never held a bake sell, never sold candy bars, never cleaned out his garage and sold his junk at the flea market to try to help him.

Earlier this year Ramesh Ponnuru and Mike Gallagher raised over $2000 for Obama's poverty stricken little brother.

Then came the story this week that Obama's Aunt - who Obama WROTE ABOUT in one of his multi-million copy selling biographies lives in the public housing slums of Boston. Again in grief stricken poverty--though she has it considerably better than his brother--he couldn't find a way to help her?

Well now we learn there might have been a reason why. Obama's Auntie is here as an illegal immigrant. Hiring practices getting tighter, security getting more serious and all THE ONE was probably advising her to just lay low. Which is even understandable if you really care about her. (Of course if you really cared about her and  you've got a huge roomy brownstone that Tony Rezko hooked you up with--now with ten percent more space than when you bought it--why wouldn't you bring her to live with you?)

But it doesn't stop there... Obama's campaign finance records now show that his impoverished Aunt, living illegally in the slums of Boston, the one he made a buck off of writing her up in his book, but now has a tough time just getting by--was encouraged to donate $260 to THE ONE 4 PREZ campaign. That's a full ten percent of the maximum gift that can be given.

Barack Obama, the "church going Christian", has never given 10% to God much less a neighbor, fellow citizen, or even quite literally a brother/or Auntie in need.

...word!

Does Hillary run anything by her campaign staff?

So... how's that McCain/Feingold thing workin' out for ya... "oh about $1,000,000,000 worth!"

record setting $$$

One of the really BIG reasons that John McCain sought to limit our freedom of first amendment speech (and one of the reasons George W. Bush should have vetoed the stupid bill attempting to do so) was because, according to McCain, it would seek to stem the flood of money in the election cycle, and we could return the elections to ideas...

Uh... yeah... ok...

How do they say "big fact crock of rat poo" in Arizona?

Tom Hanks: proving Hollywood's disconnect from reality...
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 3:37 PM

"Bored!"

Paying a visit to the Capitol building, Tom Hanks declared his desire to have the vote taken for the 2008 general election sooner than later.

Hanks is a supporter of Barack Obama told Politico that he wished the election could be "held tomorrow." Adding, "I'm bored!"

But I think most people who pay any attention to the political spectrum are anything but bored with the present drama shaping up in Hanks' own party. Obama leads big, Hillary makes a comeback (repeat cycle once), and now it looks that Obama may win 3 of the next 4 states, but Hillary wins in the biggest of the 4 and they end up going the stretch with Obama firmly in the lead, and Hillary trailing, and they get to the convention and have "the" slug-fest to make us forget Democrats in Chicago, or Republicans of 1976.

It will be ugly, waste particles will be flying through the air, Clinton will attempt to steal the nomination, tempers will be tested, and every now and then Obama may step out to a microphone and say, "the Clinton camp refuses to recognize the will of our party's voters - particularly the choice of African-Americans, and young voters."

Insults will be levied, dirt will be dragged up, and perhaps even punches thrown, and riots started before its all settled.

BORED?

Someone tell Forrest that "we're just getting to the good part."

Don't think just answer: The last time Billy Jeff did something like this?
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 12:21 PM

...b-day girl...

I thoroughly disagree with almost every policy position Barack Obama holds. (Though his assessment of Reagan was quite sound two days ago.)

But in the "decent human being department" he's got the last President that emerged from the Democratic camp beat by about 7, or 8, maybe 10,000 miles.

Meanwhile, Obama took a break from campaigning Thursday night to celebrate his wife’s birthday by taking her out to dinner. Advisers declined to say where they would eat, except to say it would just be the two of them.

...don't mess homie!

I think a lot of African Americans got weary of hearing the first President Clinton proclaim himself "the first Black President" of the United States.

Now it appears Sir Hillary wishes to give her future first lady a run for her money...

Pitiful, ugly, and bizarre... and working very much in favor of Mr. Obama!

Loving on the Huck'... in some unusual places
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 9:33 AM

They <3 Huckabee!

Seriously, even if you're not voting for the guy, you have to admit that Star Parker and Jim Geraghty are making some pretty darn solid points this morning.

Parker poses:

My own work over the years trying to get the conservative message into the black community has been made infinitely more difficult as a result of the multiple millions that America's corporations have poured into left-wing black organizations like the NAACP.

Ironically, Huckabee is the only Republican candidate to propose fundamental reform of our tax system. Credible economists, including one Nobel Prize winner, support the Fair Tax idea that Huckabee has put forth. Critics charging that the Fair Tax is politically impossible to enact also speak to the unfortunate state of mind of many Republicans today who can no longer conceive of major and sweeping change as achievable.

Inside-the-beltway Republicans have also lost touch with the increasing seriousness with which grass roots conservatives relate to the traditional values agenda. More and more folks are feeling personally assaulted by the meaninglessness that is gripping our culture and do not see our moral health as separate and apart from our economic health.

Rather than attacking Huckabee, folks would be better served to take a more careful and less dismissive look at why he's garnering such broad support.

And Geraghty the indispensable adds:

The various causes of social conservatism - the promotion of a culture of life; the desire for entertainment options that won't teach your kids the exact wrong lesson; the commodification and commercialization of childhood; a healthy caution of strip-mining human embryos for the miracle cure du jour that scientists promise to deliver; the desire for a community where the values of the family are reinforced when the kids walk out the front door - they could use a gifted advocate. Too often the most high-profile advocates of these causes hand their enemies plenty of ammunition - must I name names?

I have my gripes with Huckabee, but when this show is over, I don't want him to wrap up his tent and go home. The man's a fighter, a communicator, and a silver-tongued persuader - skills the Republican Party doesn't exactly have a surplus of these days.

That is what you refer to as a one, two punch...

Pro-Lifers: Romney's support for Embryonic Stem Cell Research - Strikeout!
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 10:22 AM

Don't know how I missed this. December 5th interview on CBS (ah that's why) with Katie Couric. Jill Stanek believes she understood Mitt Romney to say that he was ok with the use of embryonic stem cells for research and that left her with no choice but to scratch him off the Pro-Life list...

As a matter of fairness - because unlike some - this blog is NOT bought and sold... When Mitt is on with me next, I will ask him to clarify. If he said what Stanek represents him to have said - this may be a wedge too great for pro-life conservatives to get past... But unlike some talk show hosts - I will seek to ask him personally...

RASMUSSEN: Huck makes 15% jump in S.C. - now leads...
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 2:35 PM

"You don't say... ahead by 7% huh?"

A week ago he took the lead in Iowa from Romney. Yesterday he wrestled the polling lead from Giuliani nationally. Today he lapped Thompson and Romney in South Carolina - moving up 15% points to a 7% lead in Gamecock country...

Full disclosure - I have NOT yet endorsed any candidate in the GOP Primary...

Betraying Romney: firms he hires - working against him!

TAX FOUNDATION: MITT raised taxes more than HUCK!
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 7:55 AM

"Governor you raised taxes more than me..."

Michael Medved broke down the numbers this morning... and basically cites both men as exemplary leaders - but on the cold hard facts - Mitt raised taxes slightly more than Huck...

According to figures from the non-partisan Tax Foundation (based on data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Department of Commerce), Huckabee’s term as governor (1996-2007) led to a modest increase in the overall State-Local tax burden for Arkansas: from 10.1% in the year he became governor to 11.1% the last year he served. In terms of overall tax burden (state-local-federal) Arkansas remained virtually unchanged--- from 30.3% (39th among the 50 states) to 30.5% (32nd place).

Mitt Romney, on the other hand, saw sharper increases in taxes during his single gubernatorial term (2003 to 2007) in Massachusetts. The state-local burden rose from 9.8% the year of his election to 10.5% his last year as governor. Meanwhile, the total tax burden went up from 31.2% to 33.9% -- vaulting Massachusetts from 9th place to 7th place in the nation.

These numbers don’t prove that Huckabee was a great governor, or that Romney was a poor governor: actually, both men count as exemplary public servants and authentic conservatives (and both of them have taken Grover Norquist’s “No New Taxes” Pledge—in contrast to their rivals Giuliani, Thompson and McCain, who have refused to do so). Both candidates deserve respect for doing a solid job in handling state legislatures with overwhelming Democratic majorities and scoring some notable achievements as governor (though both states flipped to Democratic control in 2006).

For those who are interested in the truth, however, the growth of the tax burden in Arkansas under 11 years of Huckabee looks no worse (and actually a tad better) than the growth of taxes in Massachusetts under 4 years of Romney.
