Tell me why we should NOT have literacy tests in order to be able to vote. Please explain to me why having media-brainwashed-numbbots walk into a booth and pull a lever because of the mindless, godless, soulless, precinct captains told them to helps America.

I recognize that in the era of Reconstruction, literacy tests were used to exclude the votes of those who may have had a genuine right, interest, and engagement in the voting process. But how is it any different to cancel out the informed votes of people who actually have some modicum of knowledge about what it is they are casting a vote for?

Oh, are we voting for rainbow-excreting-flying-unicorns? Where do I register...

VALUES VOTERS

So I'm on site at the Hilton Washington, the Townhallees are here - free magazines they're handing out, Faith is in transit - probably land about 1am, Baldwin was in DC last night for the dedication of the Pentagon Memorial, then flew to New Mexico where he speaks tonight, he flies back here tomorrow. We speak tomorrow night at 7:30pm.

Tomorrow afternoon I've got one radio, one television, and one print interview. Stephen has two radio shows, one television as well.

Oh yes - they moved us into Mitt Romney's prime time slot - bc Mitt needed to jump to earlier in the afternoon... say it with me now, voice lowered just slightly... "Yeah Ba-by!"

Then we are with the VIP student reception. Last year they had only about 100 kids. This year they've got nearly 400 registered. I think Baldwin and I are going to be a little bit/whollotta different than what they had last year (Roger Hedgecock... eeeck. I mean he's a nice guy and all but 400 students gots to have their cuhrazeee - you know?)

Then after the reception we both sign books for about 20 minutes, and then its over to the main house to host the SonicFlood show.

Registration is coming in at a couple of thousand. With extras driving in for the SonicFlood show.

We hope that Faith makes it safely, as she will be officially representing this blog on New Media aka "Bloggers'" Row. And I will likely be joining Ed over at HotAir for a shorty tomorrow as well!

Yesterday I claimed that Mitt's better speech was given earlier in the fall at the Values Voters Summit. I was in the room when it was given - the air was electric. So much more well received than Huckabee's - AT the Evangelical's event.

All of that to reassert - yesterday's speech was unnecessary and perhaps damaging.

Mitt didn't have to explain his view of faith to me - what I needed to know was his value system - and he had already explained that in detail at VVS.

Rudy Giulianni should get no mercy from social conservative, Christian, born-again evangelical voters. This weekend he attempted to say otherwise. Guiliani attempted to persuade voters that he is indeed as concervative as they desire him to be.. yet he said, "I'm not going to pretend to you I can be all things to all people, I'm just not like that. I will tell you from what I saw with my own eyes amongst the evangelical Christians at the Values Voters Summit last week - he doesn't seem to be getting any. But it's not enough, not in the primary - he should not get a pass from socially conservative Christians. 800.345.WMCA.

For everyone that believed that Harry Potter was this innocent allegory of good and evil - which is the position in the McCullough house, J.K. Rowlings confession - should not make any difference"Dumbledore is gay," she said, adding he was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, who he beat in a battle between good and bad wizards long ago. The audience gasped, then applauded. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy," she said. We have talked with personal friends and I have seen the studies - Harry Potter sold a LOT of books to people of faith - and the battle between good and evil is at the center of why these books were/are so popular. I believe we need to outlaw all use of Zero Tolerance policies...in otherwords I have ZERO TOLERANCE for zero tolerance. Here's another example of why: Seven-year-old Kyle Walker was suspended for one day last week by school officials in Cape May County for drawing a stick figure shooting a gun.  Four kindergarten boys were suspended in 2000 for playing cops and robbers, even though they were using their fingers as guns. Since guns were invented nearly 100% of all boys have used their imagination to kill bad guys, rescue the girl, save the town, and become the hero. I know I did - and I've never had one inkling to shoot a human being - ever! By enacting Zero Tolerance policies we are protecting ourselves against no one, and it is merely an excuse to attempt to govern - without thinking. 800.345.WMCA.

Referring to Andrew Giuliani’s reportedly distant relationship with his father since the ugly bust-up of Mr. Giuliani’s marriage with Donna Hanover,” the article says, “Mr. Rangel said it was because ’sons respect and admire their fathers, but they love their mothers against cheating gd'd husbands.’ I have repeatedly argued the simple commonsense perspective that says, if a man DOES cheat on his wife it is likely that he will cheat on people far less important - which is the common belief among 98% of all Conservative Christians. BTW... side note here. More people than I can count have come up voluntarily saying that they are fans of the column. Which is good to know since - THIS IS MY CROWD!

Just about every seat filled  and standing room only in the press area...

7:34pm - Feel good "Home" video from Ann Romney kicks it off...

7:35pm - Jay Sekulow to introduce... Man is he short, it's like Ziggy lookin' over the wall. Out of the shoot he praises Mitt's stand for marriage. Romney walks out to a standing ovation...

7:37pm - Thanks much all the way around... "protecting families" out of his mouth inside of 6 seconds... "I'm pro-family on every level - personal, professional AND political!"

7:38pm - "America's future will not be determined by heads of state but heads of households..."

7:38pm - quotes C.S. Lewis and invokes "Judao-Christian" quickly...

Newt... LIVE from the Values Voters Summit!

I wandered in well into his remarks. Following my broadcast I had been in the halls reconnecting with valiant pro-life friends like Jill Stanek, Bobby Schindler, Rick Santorum, and Star Parker. Which if you missed you can catch on PodCAST heres Hour 1 and Hour 2. Our guests included the TownHall All-Stars, Dr. Tony Perkins, Presidential Candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter, Focus On The Family, and Bishop Harry Jackson.

But when everything had died down I wandered into the main hall again and listened to Newt Gingrich be better than I had ever heard him. (BTW... you can view any or all of the segments via the internet for a mere donation of $9.95. And from what I understand that is an unlimited access to the going's on for the entirety of the weekend.)

But back to Newt - he was drawing out the comparison between those who want to expunge any and all references to "God" and he applied it more simply than I had ever heard it put.

He painted the picture of 625,000 dead soldiers at the hands of ourselves. And following that moment of the Civil War president Lincoln realized that his nation was at odds with itself more so than it ever possibly would be again. After all we had taken up arms against our own.

So on the occasion of his second inaugural in the light of such circumstances he said these words:

At this second appearing to take the oath of the presidential office, there is less occasion for an extended address than there was at the first. Then a statement, somewhat in detail, of a course to be pursued, seemed fitting and proper. Now, at the expiration of four years, during which public declarations have been constantly called forth on every point and phase of the great contest which still absorbs the attention, and engrosses the energies of the nation, little that is new could be presented. The progress of our arms, upon which all else chiefly depends, is as well known to the public as to myself; and it is, I trust, reasonably satisfactory and encouraging to all. With high hope for the future, no prediction in regard to it is ventured.

On the occasion corresponding to this four years ago, all thoughts were anxiously directed to an impending civil war. All dreaded it--all sought to avert it. While the inaugeral [sic] address was being delivered from this place, devoted altogether to saving the Union without war, insurgent agents were in the city seeking to destroy it without war--seeking to dissole [sic] the Union, and divide effects, by negotiation. Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive; and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. And the war came.

One eighth of the whole population were colored slaves, not distributed generally over the Union, but localized in the Southern part of it. These slaves constituted a peculiar and powerful interest. All knew that this interest was, somehow, the cause of the war. To strengthen, perpetuate, and extend this interest was the object for which the insurgents would rend the Union, even by war; while the government claimed no right to do more than to restrict the territorial enlargement of it. Neither party expected for the war, the magnitude, or the duration, which it has already attained. Neither anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with, or even before, the conflict itself should cease. Each looked for an easier triumph, and a result less fundamental and astounding. Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces; but let us judge not that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered; that of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has his own purposes. "Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!" If we shall suppose that American Slavery is one of those offences which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South, this terrible war, as the woe due to those by whom the offence came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a Living God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope--fervently do we pray--that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-man's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether"

With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan--to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.

If the secularists have their way... they would have to argue for the removal of THAT speech. That it would have to be sand blasted from the stone that it now sits engraved enshrined in at Lincoln's memorial.

One nation - under God, and we are always better for the reality of that truth being known!

The FRED file... LIVE at the Values Voters Summit...

Fred Thompson, the third Presidential candidate of the day but the first real contender is receiving a warm welcome from the Values Voters Summit line from the Washington Hilton.

Thompson has followed McCain who was received with only mediocre welcome, and Sam Brownback who has now left the race for President.

Fred scored the right tone on the issue of abortion and the protection of marriage, he hit the judges and the issue of the judiciary's relationship to both of those.

11:23am - Fred just scored a shot at the schools who are now distributing birth control pills to 11, 12, and 13 year olds.

11:24am - What would Fred's first 100 days look like? Doesn't know what he do in completion of the first 100 days. But stated he did know what he would do for the first hour.  "Go into the Oval Office, close the door, and on his knees pray for the wisdom and the strength to know and to do what was right." (slight standing ovation followed... and as he wrapped up full fledged standing ovation and some Fred-heads chanting "Go Fred Go"

McCain Speaks...

Erick Erickson gives him good reviews, as does the crowd:

In his speech, he's not afraid to call radical Islam "evil" and makes a very impassioned case that it is. Over all though, he seems subdued. Subdued, I guess, isn't the right word, but comes the closest. He is not raising his voice, yelling, pounding fists, or anything else. It's as if John McCain has decided that the force of his convictions will come through.

And you know what? It works. Here towards the end he's picking up voice and bringing the audience to applause when he gets on judges. He points out he supported Alito and Roberts. He also says "don't federalize issues not in the constitution."

Now, here you go -- I've typing this live. After a good bit of his subdued speech, he's not got the audience's attention and now he's fired up about the issues -- abortion, federal judicial grabs of power, etc. But, he hasn't gotten to immigration.

Great line he throws in: "I am pro-life because I know what it's like to live without human rights."

That last line is a winner.

He highlighted his opposition to the administration's interrogation policies: “The easy way is not the American way we must remain true to our ideals not in spite of the threats we face but because of them.” And made a point of reminding the crowd of his involvement in the "Gang of 14", declaring "I am proud to have played a role -- -a major role --- in the confirmation of Alito, Roberts, and others." and concluding “I would appoint strict constructionist judges that won’t legislate from the bench.” (waitaminute --- I thought Giuliani was tomorrow...?)

It was a good speech, but not great delivery. To me it was fairly obvious that it wasn't one he had written himself or even had time to review closely prior to delivery --- he recited it staring down at the text for the majority of his time, and his timing was off --- he didn't seem to have a grip on his own applause lines.

Rudy's Endorsement...

Rick Perry, governor of Texas.

The lede: he trusts him on judges:

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday won the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, despite their differences on abortion rights.

Perry, an abortion opponent, said his biggest concern had been Giuliani's support for abortion rights but that he was satisfied Giuliani would appoint judges who view the issue conservatively.

"The one (issue) that I wanted to hear him give me an answer and look me right in my eyes was that issue of who can I expect, what type of individual can I expect on the Supreme Court," Perry said at a news conference with Giuliani.

"He clearly said ... you can look for people like Scalia and Roberts and Alito. Let me tell you, I can live with that," Perry said, referring to conservative Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.

Perry said when he buys a pickup truck, he doesn't rule it out simply because it has one option he doesn't like.

Will it help going into the Values Voters conference?

The Lovely Bride and I got into an argument over it just two nights ago. Ann Coulter said this in a recent interview. Her conclusion being that if the right to vote was taken away for women - the Democrats would never win another election. There is no doubt she is right. But why is that so? There are many clear thinking women who weigh the issues, and understand the morality of today's life - aren't there? So why is it that liberals, particularly liberal Democrats take women for granted and treat them like dirt? And nothing is dirtier or more vile than when liberal women begin joking... some would say harassing each other. Whoopi is as vile as can be found - yet she is this way in the world's MOST "supposedly mature" female venue on earth - THE VIEW. I actually felt somewhat sorry for Nancy Pelosi. Why are today's liberal women like this? And if the right to vote WAS taken away from women, would it lead to better government? What do YOU have to say about it Ladies? 800.345.WMCA.
