Missed Opportunity...

Thug: tainting victory, with ugly!

Because of the technology Twitter, I was able to provide some running facebook commentary LIVE from the Super Bowl party I attended last night. So some of this may seem familiar to some of you.

But I have to tell you, I was sadly disappointed with the incredibly poor behavior and sickening attitudes of the Pittsburgh Steeler organization.

An historic franchise, winning a legacy 6th Super Bowl deserved better. And they deserved it from a lot of people.

Most notably the game's hero... James Harrison.

For no matter how impressive his Super Bowl record setting interception/run back turned out to be, his personal disgusting actions late in the second half erased forever in my mind the ability for my children to ever see him as anything other than just another thug.

Repeatedly beating players with his fist was bad enough during a play, but continuing it with greater emphasis following the end of the play - was criminal.

Harrison should have been ejected... not penalized.

Mr. Rooney, Coach Tomlin, and the fans of the Steelers everywhere had to watch as perhaps a legacy accomplishment for an NFL franchise was marred in the unruly throwing of punches, continual late hits out of bounds, etc.

I had no team in the game last night, so no one can accuse me of being mad at a team because they beat mine.

The Steelers were brutes, who won with some ugly displays of temper, and even lower heights of sportsmanship of ANY national championship of ANY sport, I ever recall witnessing.

And Pittsburgh's most ardent fans are the ones who should be most upset. Because this Super Bowl deserves an asterisk next to it in the NFL record books...

Hollywood idiot speaks... dumb stuff comes out...

I play a tough guy in the movies...

Even though I like him as the new James Bond, Daniel Craig's brain is so lame--when he speaks--he makes me wanna throw up a little bit in my mouth...

When asked by Parade magazine:
I finally ask this British actor a deeply American question: “Who do you think would be the better James Bond—Barack Obama or John McCain?”

Craig doesn’t hesitate. “Obama would be the better Bond because—if he’s true to his word—he’d be willing to quite literally look the enemy in the eye and go toe-to-toe with them.

I guess if you mean by "look them in the eye, and go toe to toe with them", "sit down with them without preconditions" then you may be right.

But come on Barack's never jumped out of an airplane, he's never been actually tortured, and the most death that Daniel Craig has ever come close to seeing are the stuntmen who keep biting it filming his stunt scenes on his behalf.

PLEASE... John McCain flew fighter jets, had several successful missions, got shot down by the enemy, and tortured for six years!!!

His shoulder blades were snapped like saltine crackers and they beat him into unconsciousness repeatedly.

Daniel Craig may think Barack's a tough guy... but that's just because they both would love to believe they've played one on TV.

McCain's been there, done that, and understands the real sacrifice in doing so.

Jonathan Martin thinks he's stumbled across some big conspiracy. (YAWN!!!) I know it may come as news to you but guess what; we conservative media types - LOVE the new emerging technologies. So a "prominent conservative talk radio producer" has just as much right to be involved with YouTube and crafting original videos that make a rather excellent point - as anyone else does.

Anyway - check out Habeeb's work above. It rocks!

WHY Christians are REQUIRED to vote in 2008
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 7:28 PM

...inclined to stay home...

My syndicated column created a f'ir bit of anger and controversy yesterday. But the long and short of it is this Bible believing Christians do NOT have permission to abdicate their positions as citizen rulers.

Christians who are arguing that they have the right to not participate in the general election of 2008 are demonstrating two things.

1. Their lack of understanding of the real role of American citizens. (It is WE THE PEOPLE who govern and we lend our permission for an administrator to steer the ship for four to eight years at a time.)

2. Their ignorance in their roles in the stewardship to rule justly, in addition to rendering to the governing authority what is in the realm of civil government - as long as it does not violate Biblical truth.

Why MITT and not RUDY is the clear choice amongst Evangelicals...
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 9:47 AM

To hear the press tell it today, Evangelical Christians are now all in the campaign camp of Rudy Giuliani, the pro-abort, pro-gay, anti-gun, pro-illegal alien, pro-sanctuary city standard bearer for liberal Republicans everywhere.

Of course the MSM plays it off this way because of one mildly past his prime faith-healer who has a hunch about Rudy's candidacy based on a flight from Israel to New York in which the two were able to talk about the importance of security, terrorism, and the future of the free world. One might remember that he's also the only member of the religious right to actually run for President in a very ill-advised campaign twenty years ago.

The New York radio world was little on its ear on Wednesday, and I was consumed with our attempt to help feed hungry New Yorkers through the holiday season so forgive me for not addressing the issue until now (early Thursday morning.)

But come on Pat? Have you lost what grey matter you had left? Rudy?

So now Mr. "Put your hand to the television and let me pray with you" has decided that Rudy is more qualified to dictate the course of policy via the social issues the next administration will face - particularly as it pertains to the attempt to redefine marriage, return the issue of abortion to the states, set the judiciary in the continuing path of Alito, Roberts, and Thomas, keep taxes from escalating to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton era stratospheres, monitor the borders and make sure that only legal immigrants come and are given safe haven in our nation's urban centers, AND agressively fight the war against Islamic-fascists who have announced their intentions to kill us. Hey... 1 for 6 ain't bad is it?

Does Pat Robertson feel comfy with Giuliani's inability to keep his word and integrity to those who trust him most? Thrice over. How does Pat Robertson attempt to cross the threshold of believability on the issue of federal funding, federal funding, and more federal funding for abortion - causing every tax-payer to become complicit in the act of taking innocent human being's lives?

Nope it seems to me that Pat's gone 'round the crazy bend, and Mayor Rudy is willing to give him a lift to get there...

The truth is - significant evangelical voices have spoken with great conviction about the qualifications of one of the leading top tier candidates of recent - and more voices continue to come forward almost weekly.

While Mayor Giuliani's faith would on the surface expect to share similar values with evangelical voters, apparently the Mayor himself does not.

But Mitt Romney - who has not been ruled out of support from prominent leaders like Dr. James Dobson and Dr. Tony Perkins. Is also enjoying expressed outspoken support from additional prominent conservative evangelical voices like Paul Weyrich, Dr. Wayne Grudem, and perhaps most surprisingly of all - Bob Jones III.

It might also be noted that Mitt's past has troubled some of us who only knew parts of the story on his former positions on abortion and the defense of marriage.

He did indeed candidate and campaign previous to his governorship as an ardent supporter of the pro-choice viewpoint. But to really understand with the Governor on the issue of life one needs to read the behind the scenes narrative as penned by Hugh Hewitt in his best-seller A Mormon in the White House. Because of key people demonstrating to him the real evidence of what and where life begins on the issue of stem cells, the Governor awakened to the moral calling that his conscience knew was right all along. The Governor - just like former President Ronald Reagan - when confronted with the evidence, became thoroughly and completely 100% pro-life from that time forward.

The issue of the defense of marriage is also tricky. Simpletons - like the MassResistance.org group have thrown the former Governor overboard saying that the Governor had executive power that he did not excercise in ignoring the Supreme Judicial Court of the State of Massachusetts, further they claim that the Governor took extraordinary initiative in "bringing" gay marriage to the state.

Of course to argue this you also must argue the differences in viewpoints between the role of the different branches of government and the balance of powers as the Governor understood them to be in the Constitution of the Commonwealth.

It was obvious that in the Governor's mind the ruling of the court - and in essence the rule of law - is a settled thing. To argue that he gets to ignore the court argues for a super concentration of power in the executive branch. That was a position that Governor felt was unconstitutional. MassResistance and talk radio hosts that have described this series of decisions from a very narrow point of view have refused to accept the view that believes in the rule of law.

It might be added that it is these same people who also argue for the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In other words - they wish for a Supreme Judicial body to assert a final judicial finding and thusly settle the "rule of law" on the federal government's role in the matter of abortion. But one can't have it both ways in a Constitutional government - to demand the rule of law on one the one hand does not give one the right to ignore it when it is inconvenient or does not suit one's purposes.

For people to argue that Mitt Romney should have ignored the finding of the highest court in his state - while serving as that state's Chief Executive is akin to telling crazies to go shoot abortion practitioners because they are saving lives in doing so.

It is in understanding Mitt's commitment to the rule of law that one begins to appreciate his deep convictions on the weighty matters that he has examined and yes - come to new positions on. But not just because he is running for President, but because he is attempting to be consistent in the principles he holds and the methods by which he governs.

Paul Weyrich had been one of the voices that had previously been unfairly difficult upon Mitt Romney, and Weyrich himself has now endorsed him.

Dr. Dobson has ruled out all of the top tier candidates except Mitt, and as Romney said on my show not long ago he is, "grateful that Dr. Dobson has not marked him off the list."

To call Mitt Romney a flip-flopper is a charge that is not only intellectually lazy, but it is one that is not based in reality. And Christians, people of faith and conviction, and everyday voters who are looking for someone whose word is their bond should understand this.

There has been no more sacrificial defender of marriage in elected office than Mitt Romney, and a fair analysis of his performance demonstrates that for this reason, he shares more values with the evangelical voter than Rudy Giuliani does - crazy faith-healers tagging along or not...

(video) DOBSON: Rudy is not trustworthy on judges!
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 7:57 AM

There is no one reading this that doesn't understand the profound respect I have for Dr. James Dobson and the AMAZING career he has maintained in fighting the fight for all that is GOOD.

Many of my colleagues in the blogosphere believe that Dobson is defacto endorsing a Hillary candidacy in the general (and at the very minimum a Romney candidacy defacto in the primary.)

One other thought that struck my mind was that this is more bluster than bluff. Could this be the scenario by which Dobson is sending the message to get behind one of the pro-life Republicans? In other words - defeat Rudy in the primary and use this threat to help garner support?

Merely asking the questions...

DOBSON: No Rudy, Christian Leaders UNITED not fractured!
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 10:08 AM

Thanks to Matt's exclusives here at TownHall we heard from Mr. Viguerie earlier this week. I will have an exclusive with the Family Research Council's Dr. Tony Perkins today on the broadcast. But this morning Dr. James Dobson broke his silence on the message coming to the candidates from this past weekend's "Council for National Policy's" national meetings:

Two themes emerged. BEAT RUDY in the primary:

After two hours of deliberation, we voted on a resolution that can be summarized as follows: If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor-party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand. The result was almost unanimous.

The other issue discussed at length concerned the advisability of creating a third party if Democrats and Republicans do indeed abandon the sanctity of human life and other traditional family values. Though there was some support for the proposal, no consensus emerged.

Speaking personally, and not for the organization I represent or the other leaders gathered in Salt Lake City, I firmly believe that the selection of a president should begin with a recommitment to traditional moral values and beliefs. Those include the sanctity of human life, the institution of marriage, and other inviolable pro-family principles. Only after that determination is made can the acceptability of a nominee be assessed.

And the other... CHRISTIAN LEADERS ARE AS UNITED AS EVER.

One other clarification is germane, even though unrelated to the meeting in Salt Lake City. The secular news media has been reporting in recent months that the conservative Christian movement is hopelessly fractured and internally antagonistic. The Los Angeles Times reported on Monday, for example, that supporters of traditional family values are rapidly “splintering.” That is not true. The near unanimity in Salt Lake City is evidence of much greater harmony than supposed. Admittedly, differences of opinion exist among us about our choices for president.

That divergence is entirely reasonable, now just over a year before the national election. It is hardly indicative of a “splintering” of old alliances. If the major political parties decide to abandon conservative principles, the cohesion of pro-family advocates will be all too apparent in 2008.

DOBSON: "Fred's NOT for me!"
Posted by: Kevin McCullough at 8:03 AM

It seems to me the first truly bit of bad news for the Thompson team is hitting home this morning. If you are a GOP candidate and Dr. James Dobson writes THIS about you:

"Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?" Dobson wrote.

"He has no passion, no zeal, and no apparent 'want to.' And yet he is apparently the Great Hope that burns in the breasts of many conservative Christians? Well, not for me, my brothers. Not for me!"

...well... now you've got some problems that go beyond just shuffling campaign staffers!

I predict Thompson's daily Rasmussen lead will begin to ebb lower once this story just plastered everywhere that the media will no doubt push it too!

(Many of you who read this blog daily know that I've been one of those who has been energized by Fred's entry into the race. You also know that I have nothing but the greatest respect for Dr. Dobson. I will be weighing in on this development in a bit with some further perspective...stay tuned...)
