Attorney General Eric Holder Gets Destroyed
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 10:06 AM
...by Sen. Lindsay Graham, during a line of questioning on why Holder is insisting on bringing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others to New York for a trial. No one really gets why Holder is doing it, but few have expressed that disbelief as well as the esteemed Senator from South Carolina.

Iraqis Taunting Americans About Brett Favre
Posted by: Kevin Glass at 1:54 PM
Via Sonny Bunch comes this story about Iraqi detainees who have been able to pick up enough information to taunt Wisconsinite soldiers about their pariah Brett Favre:

According to a military official, detainees at a Wisconsin National Guard camp in Iraq are using Brett Favre as a manner of getting at the guard troops there.

"They know Favre by name," said First Lieutenant Tim Boehnen, who is from New Richmond, Wis.

"One of the big words they know now is shenanigan.  They'll constantly talk about 'Favre shenanigans,' 'He's so good for the Vikings,' and 'The Packers have got to really feel bad about that one.'  "

According to Boehnen, it started when troops there started decorating their camp in Packers colors.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's New York Trial
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 5:42 PM
The feds have a bad track record for getting foreign terrorists the death penalty. New York juries simply aren't keen on executing criminals. And the one who is charged with pursuing the death penalty for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is a personal opponent of the death penalty.

Here's Gehragty:
The last time a Manhattan federal jury faced such a choice was July 2001. It spared two men convicted in the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 people. Seven of 12 jurors decided that, if executed, one defendant 'will be seen as a martyr and his death may be exploited by others to justify future terrorist acts.'"

Well, good to see that effort helped ensure no further terrorist attacks in Manhattan in 2001.

Sen Graham to Holder: Would You Read Bil Laden His Rights?

Check out the guy behind Graham, he is dumfounded -- like the majority of those who will see this.

Obama Admits January Gitmo Deadline Unattainable
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 12:22 PM
Another failed campaign promise from the Obama administration...

Barack Obama rode a wave of support to victory last November and promised his supporters in January that the Guantanamo Bay detention center would be closed within the first year of his presidency.  Whoops, spoke too soon.

The president publicly acknowledged for the first time today that Guantanamo Bay will not be closed by January.  However, he must have learned his lesson about setting deadlines on these kind of delicate matters because, as the Washington Post is reporting, he has refused to set a new one.

In an interview in the Chinese capital with Major Garrett of Fox News, Obama said he was "not disappointed" that the Guantanamo deadline had slipped, saying he "knew this was going to be hard."

"People, I think understandably, are fearful after a lot of years where they were told that Guantanamo was critical to keep terrorists out," Obama said. Closing the facility, he added, is "also just technically hard."

I remember when President Bush alluded to the fact that he was making "hard" decisions, liberals pounced, calling him stupid and inept.  And now that this liberal president has 1) broken his promise, and 2) blaming it on difficulty, I don't hear any of that good 'ol liberal outrage.

Despite the slow trickle of prisoners out of the facility, Obama insisted in the interview that the facility will be shuttered eventually.

"We are on a path and a process where I would anticipate that Guantanamo will be closed next year," he said. "I'm not going to set an exact date because a lot of this is also going to depend on cooperation from Congress."

PS--I'd just like to give a little pat-on-the-back to those of us who predicted and warned this promise would be broken when it was made.

Hasan Used Business Cards To Identify Himself As A "Soldier of Allah"
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 11:03 AM
Meredith mentioned that the private business cards Major Nidal Hasan made for himself had no mention of his military affiliation, but instead identified him as a "SoA (SWT)" which is commonly used shorthand for "Soldier of Allah."

Will this be the final straw that enables federal prosecutors to charge Hasan with treason, in addition to murder?

Feds Will Seize Mosques, Skyscraper In New York
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 10:00 AM
Four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue highrise were all under suspicion of being operated by the Iranian government under the guise of being part of a nonprofit entity. From Bloomberg:
The non-profit organization that partially owns a 36-story tower at 650 Fifth Avenue is a front for the government of Iran, according to a complaint filed yesterday by the U.S. government. The group, called the Alavi Foundation, also owns four U.S. mosques and has been funneling money back to the Iranian government, the complaint said. The government is looking to seize all of those properties, though they will remain open as the case moves through court. Tenants at 650 Fifth Avenue include Citigroup, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, and a Juicy Couture retail store, Bloomberg reported.

Ft. Hood Shooting Not Breaking Point For Obama Wafflers... But It's Close
Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 9:10 AM
Gerhagty postulates that Obama's "hopeful-but-losing-faith" supporters are getting really, really close to abandoning ship in the near future. Why? Because of Obama's unfounded ambiguity about the Hasan question.
Finger-pointing, blame-shifting, and at the top, a leader who offers inspiring rhetoric but a certain vagueness about a fundamental question — why did [Hasan] pull the trigger? — suggest that the perception of basic competence under this administration may be on shaky ground.

Fort Hood Shooter's Business Cards Advertised Extremism
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 4:23 PM
ABC News is reporting that Maj. Nidal Hasan proclaimed himself as a "Soldier of Allah" on private business cards he purchased over the internet.  Apparently a box of these business cards was found in his Ft. Hood apartment.

The cards don't mention anything about Hasan's military background, but note that he is a psychiatrist.  The letters "SoA (SWT)" appear on the cards beneath Hasan's name.  Investigators and experts are now saying it's clear Hasan was making no secret of his allegiances: "SoA" is an acronym used on jihadist Web sites meaning "Soldier of Allah," and "(SWT)" is reportedly a common acronym used by Muslims to reference "Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala" which means "Glory to God."

Can we finally call this act terrorism?
