Learning the Wrong Lessons From the Duke Case Leaves Us All Seriously 'Nifonged'
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 5:09 PM

I'm guest-blogging this week at Michelle Malkin's site in addition to my normal blogging, here.

Today, some thoughts on the folks who should be ashamed of their rush to judgment in the Duke lacrosse case, but who aren't.

You got a couple of things wrong

Hi Mary Katherine

I loved your essay "Learning all the wrong lessons..." Most of it was spot on. I have two points of contention however.

1:) Liberalism is a surrogate religion. White liberals do not indulge themselves in self flagellation so much as they indulge themselves in being "holier than thou." This case was, for them, an opportunity to set up their fellow whites as the evil foil, with them the noble moral hero coming to the rescue.

2:) Nifong did not engage in prosecutorial misconduct because he was playing to the crowd, he did it because he is a true believer. He is one of those white liberals who loves to believe the worst about his fellow white people in order to bolster his own self esteem.

I enjoy reading what you write. Keep up the good work.

Ramblings
Hopefully, he who has "Nifong-ed" us all will be prosecuted, found guilty, removed from office and disbarred. One could argue that anyone on the DA's staff in Durham County who was complicit in this "Nifong-ing" be removed from office as well.

Then, the "victim" should be prosecuted for filing a false charge, etc. She should also be sued, though there is not much to take at present, to assure that there never is much to take.

Finally, the Durham "lynch mob" must ask itself how it allowed itself to be coaxed into acting alike the "anti-Klan". The "lynch mob" will likely have to do this on its own, since neither the Raleigh Notions and Opinions nor the Durham "Hang 'em High" is likely to be a constructive participant in the process.

Racism
I noted that one of your liberal friends was going on about Southern racism. Could you please tell him to look at the identities of the Duke defendants. They are Yankees. Also, in my experience, the most racist people I know are African-American. They will discriminate against one another on skin tone and definitely give preference to each other when in positions of authority over whites. So racism is not confined to the Southern whites.

As to the faculty, there is no way I would send my child to Duke. Besides, most of the college faculty that I know have little knowledge of the world and can barely get by in society.

Nifong & the Witch-Hunters
For all their education and moral posturing, the faculty is just a modern version of the witch hunters of Salem. The only difference is that the Salem judge who condemned witches to death eventually confessed he was wrong and expressed regret. The faculty witch hunters will never do so.

Deb
Sweet goodness, Deb, we're guest-blogging and following Michelle's instructions. Do you really think we would divulge anything she didn't want divulged?

Malkin
You folks may think you're being cute with your earache and Akron comments at mm.com, but you're creating a dangerous situation. Even if you're not privy to the opsec/comsec briefings common to military veterans (at least during the era I was in the Air Force) you should be familiar with the phrase "loose lips sink ships." She has a child, for God's sake, yet you banter about her whereabouts as if it were not dangerous to do so. She should be being protected by you nuts. You're fast moving from a great public service to a bunch of lunatics reminiscent of the liberal nuts-for-brains.
