Choosing Prosperity and Strength: The Polls Move Towards McCain

Yesterday's Gallup shocker (a 2 point gap in the "likely voter" model) is going to have a follow up today if Drudge is right: A Rasmussen poll narrowing the gap to 3 points. Now we know why John McCain and Sarah Palin were both in PA yesterday. The election is tightening across the map as those of us who remember 1976 have been predicting all along. Barack Obama represents a much more radical alternative than Jimmy Carter did in '76, and Carter's unusual profile sent voters by the millions towards Gerald Ford in the closing days. The same thing is happening this year as the very well known and very reliable John McCain enters his last big comeback within striking distance and very much on target.
That target is the combination of Obama's plans for massive tax hikes and a "share the wealth" program and the Biden gaffe on Obama's inexperience attracting a crisis within six months. (Joe Biden also helpfully informed voters yesterday that the taregted taxpayer level is dropping already, this time to $150K).
McCain is pounding on the fact that Obama's soaring tax burden will guarantee that the market losses of the last month will not be coming back, and that even if they did, would not be left with the taxpayers who earned them. Biden's candor is forcing voters on the fence to consider who they want in charge when the mullahs of Iran make their move towards nukes or against Israel through Hezbollah --or both. (See Michael Barone's latest for a summary of Obama's commitment to the biggest mistakes made in the Depression-era: raising taxes and trade barriers. HT RobinsonandLong.com.)
If the polls tighten any further, panic will grip the inside of Team Obama. In fact, the quick jumps toward McCain guarantees that the GOP will stay energized through the end of the campaign. McCain voters know how hard the MSM has been working to demoralize them and keep them home, and the backfiring of the attempt is wonderful to behold.
I have been in Colorado and Minnesota with my colleagues Dennis Prager and Michael Medved, and will be at another rally with them tonight in Cleveland. I have never seen such extraordinary turnouts or enthusiasm. The GOP base is every bit as passionate and activated as the Democratic base, outraged at the MSM and deeply worried about the prospects of an Obama-Pelosi-Reid troika doing long lasting damage to the economic and national security of the country as well as to its Constitution through hard left judicial appointees.
In a 50/50 country, every presidential election is going to be close, and this one is no different, no matter how often goofy polls and MSNBC tells you otherwise.
Be sure to do your part: Send any bitter, gun-and-God-clinging PA voters you know the link to Perry Nunley's "Redneck Date" at www.amaze.fm to remind them of the Obama-Murtha contempt for their beliefs and region.

Voted in FLA.... Lines are long and they are extending early voting hours... This is not a democratic area |
|
McCain has been closing hard the last few days. Even the DailyKos poll which has heavily weighted Democratic sample has Obama's lead down to six, from 12 on 10/25.
I expect the undecided voters to continue to break towards McCain! |
|
voting for Barack Obama.
The trickle-economics of the G.O.P. of the last 30 years is a proven failure, yet John McCain promises more of the same.
For all of you hard-line Republicans, I have one simple question: Did your stock portfolio fare better with Bill Clinton as President, or with George W. Bush?
Bubble up economics works much better than trickle-down economics. |
|
What is reliable about him other than being able to count on the phrase "My Friends" appearing a half dozen times in every campaign speech?
Does anybody know who W. was pulling for during the primaries? |
|
|
Voters in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida are not stupid. Obama can't keep pumping his BS and expect that the voters will eat it up. Even the redneck/racist voters in Pennsylvania pointed out by Murtha can see through Obama. When the voters get into the voting booths, their love of country, concern for their children's future, taxes and defense of our country will bring them to vote for McCain. They won't turn this wonderful country envied by the world over to a bunch of socialistic marxists. Let them redistribute the wealth in some other country. |
|
|
Internals in the IBD poll(which was only 0.4% off the final result in 2004) show the Jewish vote at 60% Obama 6% McCain 34% undecided. The Obama connection to former PLO frontman Rashid Khalidi is all over the internet, and the LA Times holding back the tape of Obama's toast to him at his going away party in 2003 is making the news. These are high information voters that Kerry won in 2004. Expect the undecided Jewish vote to break toward McCain, giving him Forida. |
|
Did your stock portfolio do better under Reagan or Carter?
Trickle down economics do work. Reagan's tax cuts led to the greatest economic expansion this country has ever seen. And despite liberal mythology ALL economic brackets saw their situation improve. George H. W. Bush raised taxes, betrayed the Reagan era, and caused a recession.
If Clinton's tax increases worked so well and caused the tech boom (which they did not) - how come when George W. Bush was elected and the tech bubble had burst the only thing proposed was tax cuts? Nobody was saying lets raise taxes to fix the slowing economy and get us out of the recession.
|
|
Everyone knows why the economy had the appearance of prosperity during Clinton's regime. Ever heard of the dot.com bubble?
But since you bring up Clinton, don't put him in the same camp with Obama. Obama's economic vision for America is very different from Clinton's vision...wealth redistribution and the reinstatement of welfare, for example.
Trickle-down wealth as an intelligent economic theory has been demonstrated again and again. A luxury tax on yachts will put yacht builders out of work...simple cause and effect, which most Democrats don't seem to get. Tax small businesses and there won't be any small businesses. Just look at the facts. The reason America is so prosperous is because we believe in capitalism and the free market. Obama doesn't believe in either of these things. He thinks government wonkheads should engineer the economy, take your money and decide where to put it so the "perfect" social outcome can be achieved.
Take off the mental diapers, fbear. Quit expecting the government to solve all your problems. |
|
|
The MSM, polls and Dems have assumed that the GOP would be demoralized and not turn out for this election. This accounts for the party ID assumptions used by the pollsters. E.g., Rasmussen uses 40-32.8 D-R in the latest poll, yielding a 3 point Obama lead. IMHO, this assumption is wrong. If GOP turnout approximates 2000 or 2004, McCain wins. |
|
"I have one simple question: did your stock portfolio fare better under Pres. Clinton or President GWB"?
answer is.......BOTH!!
How so? Best recent years in the stock market were 1994-2006. That would account for the last 6 of Clinton's 8 years and the first 6 of GWB's 8 years as President. WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!!! 1994 was the year that the Republicans took control of both the Senate and the House......2006 is the year the Republicans lost control of the Senate and the House back to the Democrats. Conclusion......it certainly appears that the stock market and your financial portfolio fare much better when the Republicans control both houses of Congress. UNFORTUNATELY.....Loony Pelosi and Spineless Reid and the rest of the Dems control Congress now. If Obama is elected, the far-left wing of the Democratic Party will have free reign to run amok with our economy and our nation. If this happens....God help us all.. |

"The Blogging Caesar at Election Projection is one of the web's best prognosticators" - Hugh Hewitt
Election Projection yesterday - "Eight days from Election Day, here is this blogger's conclusion: Barack Obama will win this election in a landslide. He will capture at least 350 electoral votes and win the popular vote by 7% or more. McCain may benefit from some measure of the Bradley Effect, but that advantage will be overwhelmed by African-American turnout, Palin-induced defections by moderates, and under-funded, unenthusiastic GOP get-out-the-vote efforts."

My stock portfolio with Clinton did ok until the dot-com bubble exploded, my stock portfolio did exceptional under the Republicans until the Democrats entitlement policies brought down the financial markets.
The cowardly blame Bush and the Republicans has been an effective tool of the Democrats, and unfortunately many people bought into this ongoing campaign of lies.
The stock market is as volatile and cyclical as the changing temperature of our planet, the economy will rebound and the stock market will rise and whoever is president will take credit for the recovery.
McCain will help the recovery and Obama will impede and hamper the recovery, the recovery will happen. |
|

The government can't earn money for you. You have to do it yourself. Perhaps you have reached the limit of your abilities. |
|
"Reagan's tax cuts led to the greatest economic expansion this country has ever seen."
Absolutely not true.
In Reagan's second term real GDP grew by 16.0%.
Here are some other administration real GDP growth rates:
FDR's first term: 34.6% FDR's second term: 19.3 FDR's third term: 74.7% Truman's full term: 21.0% Kennedy/Johnson: 19.9% Johnson's full term: 21.8% Clinton's second term: 17.9%
Reagan doesn't even make it into the top five.
Although, you'll notice one characteristic of all the administrations ahead of Reagan--they all were with Democratic Presidents. |

that is an early voting polling place. the wait is an average of 5 1/2 hours and the lines go around the building. Huge turnout this year it seems. Here, 85% of the voters are black and 2% hippies so it looks like Barack has a huge turnout this election. It will be close.
Vote Bob Barr, put a dent in the Machine. |

to work on in your spare time:
"The trickle-economics of the G.O.P. of the last 30 years is a proven failure,"
Please provide the specifics and the documentation to support this ambitious assertion.
You must also include an explanation of what you mean by "bubble up" economics and how it creates jobs, industry, and wealth. What "bubbles up" and how is what "bubbles up" created? In what way does it "work better"? Give specific examples. Cite subject matter experts in the the field of economics to support your discussion.

“Despite the steep recession in 1982--brought on by tight money policies that were instituted to squeeze out the historic inflation level of the late 1970s--by 1983, the Reagan policies of reducing taxes, spending, regulation, and inflation were in place.
The result was unprecedented economic growth: This economic boom lasted 92 months without a recession, from November 1982 to July 1990, the longest period of sustained growth during peacetime and the second-longest period of sustained growth in U.S. history. The growth in the economy lasted more than twice as long as the average period of expansions since World War II.
The American economy grew by about one-third in real inflation-adjusted terms. This was the equivalent of adding the entire economy of East and West Germany or two-thirds of Japan's economy to the U.S. economy. From 1950 to 1973, real economic growth in the U.S. economy averaged 3.6 percent per year. From 1973 to 1982, it averaged only 1.6 percent.
The Reagan economic boom restored the more usual growth rate as the economy averaged 3.5 percent in real growth from the beginning of 1983 to the end of 1990.
No matter how advocates of big government try to rewrite history, Ronald Reagan's record of fiscal responsibility continues to stand as the most successful economic policy of the 20th century"

|
I remember right up to the election night the polls were close. I was living in San Diego at the time, and actually saw Reagan at his last campaign stop in the Mission Valley shopping center parking lot. He was two hours late and we were entertained by Donny and Marie, but I digress.
When he finally got there he said "I think you all are going to be surprised" - apparently they had taken some exit polls back east. It was about 6:00 PM on the west coast.
I think the polls will keep tightening until they are at a statistical dead heat.

McCain-Palin!!!! |

There was no economic growth during Roosevelt's first two terms. The stock market was flat and unemployment ran in the 20% range. Production in every year was lower under Roosevelt than it had been under any year of Coolidge.
The greatest economic growth was under Harding-Coolidge. No one, not Reagan, not Clinton ever matched it. |

How many TV's each of you have? How much your "sneakers" cost? Do you have cell phones? Do your kids have cell phones? Computers? Gameboys? PSII, WII, GameCube...all of them? AC?
Cmon people, I know there are some folks out there that need help, but we do live in the most prosperous nation on the planet and we can give the credit to both the Republicans AND Democrats...but it's really the SYSTEM (i.e. Constitution) that gave us the opportunity to achieve this great wealth.
I'd rather elect the person that will keep that system as in-tact as possible, and that is McCain/Palin.
Prediction: Squeaker for McCain/Palin...but landslide is not out of the question. |
|
and if Juan Mequeno pulls it off and wins this thing, it likely won't be by much, mirroring the results of the last two elections. But if it's true that the race is tightening and Mequeno loses, our family will be happy to have cast our votes for the only true conservative running for president, Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. Just as other disenchanted conservatives will be happy to have voted for Bob Barr. (We mailed our ballots in yesterday.)
It will be an interesting election evening, and from our standpoint, it will be good to see either major candidate lose.

The disproportionately slanted liberal media and the socialist neophytes who try to rewrite the truth believe Obama can walk on water and heal the sick.
This is a blinding desperate hysteria that has smothered this countries objectivity and American values.
We are lucky to have fbear and the other Obama apostles here to spread the word! Halleluiah!
If Obama is sworn in as President they are serving Kool-Aid at the reception, bring a big straw! |
|
I don't usually call unknown people morons but in this case, I must. The moron aka fbear knows nothing about basic economics. His ignorance is breathtaking.
Apollo: FDR actually PROLONGED the depression with his interference with the economy. We are still suffering from his meddling. To say nothing of the unconstitutionality of it all. But the lefties don't understand the Constitution. |

Roosevelt was an economic disaster but that doesn't mean that Obama won't repeat his mistakes. The bailouts are Rooseveltian in nature and will not only deepen and extend the current recession but create economic chaos.
That's why McCain will lose, because he had his chance to defend the market against the Bush/Paulson invasion but chose to defend interventionism instead. McCain allowed his idea that businessmen are less morally pure than public servants to wreck his own campaign. He deserved it but we don't. |
|
Cicero - amen, bro. I'm voting Barr. Baldwin's not on the ballot here in GA.
Cicero - have you read "The Forgotten Man"? That book is about exactly to what you're referring. Hoover and Roosevelt tried to help via govt strong-arming which went away from supply side economics to consumer economics like W believes in. Bad things were prolonged. |

Obama has not been forthright in telling Americans who he is, who he has been associated with, or what he will do if elected. If the media had done its job in vetting Obama from the beginning ... and if 18 months ago Americans knew what they know today about Obama, he would never have made it this far. I would be willing to bet that there are still volumes that we don't know about Obama, and even more Obama is not telling us about what he would do once elected. We also don't know where much of his 600 million dollars in campaign contributions came from ... possibly foreign nationals. Obama's donations are literally enabling him to buy the Presidency of the United States. And then there's Acorn, and voter fraud, which all seems to be favoring Obama. A socialistic agenda will ruin America ... whose 200+ year capitalistic ideology has made us the country where everyone wants to live ... even at risk of life and limb! It's pretty obvious that McCain loves America, not just in words, but in deeds that cost him dearly. I don't mind some changes, but changing our entire free enterprise system for socialism is NOT change I can believe in. I don't trust Obama. I think he will say or do anything to get elected. These are just some of the reasons I'm voting for McCain/Palin on November 4th. |

This will be an interesting election. It seems that there is one group of voters concerned about the almighty dollar and another that knows that the man promising to give them that dollar is against state marriage amendments to the constitution to protect traditional marriage...is not only proabortion but is cosponsor for a bill to eliminate all restrictions on abortion on both state and federal levels. I family values will win out.

Only YESTERDAY I urged all McCain supporters to buy up McCain futures on the ridiculously delusional and biased intrade.com site - when I made this recommendation yesterday, a $1.00 President McCain future was selling for the absurd price of $.125 - meaning a whopping 700% return on investment when McCain/Palin win and the value snaps to $1.00.
My friends, if you didn't take my advice then, you ALREADY missed out on the deal of a lifetime; if you DID take my advice, and bought shares at $.125, you could sell them today at $.147 (if you were foolish enough to not hang onto it for six more days) - that's a 17% return on investment in only ONE DAY - how many of your stocks are doing THAT?
Can you think of a better way to stick it to the deluded Obama supporters than to take their money, WHILE we teach them how capitalism works?
I'm planning on parking most of my earnings in a 6-month CD while the market stabilizes (as it will in a McCain/Palin business-positive environment), and then to invest it - because that's how Capitalism Works. But I won't be able to resist using some of it to throw a HUGE victory party...
BUY BUY McCain!! BYE BYE Obama!!! |
|
the son of the late conservative autor and columnist William F. Buckley. Chris Buckley has endorsed Obama for president:
"To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me. There's no way to be pleased by the events of the last eight years. The shining ideal of smaller government and nonintervention seems to be an era that is over. The movement is in terrible disarray, in fact I would call it wreckage."
So, how IS that interview with Chris Buckley coming, Hugh? |
|
urging everyone to buy stock. Throw every penny they have into the market immediately.
Only an amazing stock market rally in the next two days can save McCain.
People's 401k's are telling them that they have wasted their time contributing to their own retirement for the last eight years, and that the Republican Party means ruination.
The Intrade gambling site doesn't do a thing to actually help McCain's chances. |
|
...but McCain/Palin don't need my stock market investment to win - they need my vote, and others, and they've got that.
I'm not putting any money into this stock market while it's still this volatile (due mostly to traders reacting in justifiable terror to the lies the MSM is feeding them about Obama's Inevitable Presidency), and I can't recommend that anyone else do so either - at least not until a few months into the McCain/Palin administration, during which the markets will stabilize and rally.
McCain/Palin will do fine on their own - maybe it's a little greedy of me to want to make a buck off their success, but I still believe that capitalism is good.
BUY BUY McCain!! BYE BYE Obama!!! |

He can't possibly believe that Obama will reduce the size of government. |
|
|
And anyone who thinks that the GOP will reduce the size of government is likewise a dolt. It's simply socialism lite. |

WILL THE LAST HONEST REPORTER TURN OUT THE LIGHTS
Why is it that Ralph Peters can find delight in oil prices plummeting, thus adversely affecting the economies of Russia, Iran and Venezuela (Beware Falling Foes, 10/29), yet he fails to reiterate his stated reason for soaring prices earlier this year: that the Saudi royal family was punishing America because President Bush defied their “order” to not invade Iraq. Peters’s statement is in direct contradiction of Bob Woodward’s “definitive account” from his Bush at War books in which he depicts a warm and cooperative Saudi government working in unison with the Bush White House to depose Saddam Hussein. In fact, during the 2004 election, as a reward for Bush’s solidarity, the Saudis did everything they could to keep the price of oil down. I’ve been sounding the alarm bells on this for six months that this pro-war, right-wing, McCain campaign advisor made this clearly fabricated statement and no one in the media has lifted a finger to call him on it. Is everyone in the journalism business just lazy or is there some unspoken “blue shield-like” code amongst the media elite which transcends ideology that forces them to protect one of their own at all costs? This is ridiculous!
|
|
I agree that the GOP needs a purging, but not everyone in the GOP is "socialism lite". Tom Coburn isn't. Jim DeMint isn't. Jim Bunning is likewise a very good small government guy. We need more like them.
I just don't think that giving the Whitehouse to "Socialism XXL" is the way to go. |
|
Massive Tax Hikes?
Hugh, 90% of taxpayers get a tax cut, not a tax hike. What you're saying is wrong.
Tax cuts mean more prosperity for more people. Hardworking people keep more of their money. More money for purchases, savings, and to pass along to their children. |
|
The only reason the wealth has been trickling down is because of high taxes on the producers of jobs and wealth. Yes, I mean the rich and "evil" corporations.
Lower or eliminate capital gains and corporate taxes and you will see the trickle turn into a flood! |
|
"Massive Tax Hikes?
Hugh, 90% of taxpayers get a tax cut, not a tax hike. What you're saying is wrong.
Tax cuts mean more prosperity for more people. Hardworking people keep more of their money. More money for purchases, savings, and to pass along to their children."
You assume that Obama will keep his promise that only "the top 5% will see their taxes go up". Given that Obama has a record of voting for tax increases on all income levels; given that he is proposing over a trillion in new government spending WITHOUT identifying which government programs "that aren't working" he would cut; given that he already has a record of breaking promises; your faith in his tax plan is poorly placed.
On another point your "Hardworking people keep more of their money" line is rather laughable. Your statement assumes that most of those who are in the top 5% are lazy and not hardworking. Not everyone in that tax bracket is like Pelosi, Kennedy, or Rockefellar. Most in that bracket work their tails off, much more so than us "hardworking" middle class folks. |
|
to 3 and 7, and still NO polls showing McCain is ahead nationally. Since McCain will get maybe 200 EV, and has double digit leads in states that favor him (like Texas or Utah), why wouldn't the NATIONAL polls seem like, nationally, he is close.
It is the PA and VA polls that need to be examined. If Obama wins all of the states that RCP says as of today are firm, he need win only Colorado and New Mexico to go over 270. He won't need VA or Florida or Ohio. As in WON'T NEED.
I recognize that Hugh wants to keep hope alive, but the man from Hope knows that Obama is winning, as does the man who said to 'keep hope alive', as does the Change candidate.
Look at the bright side...an African American president will put to rest the concept that African Americans cannot become president. It removes another fallacy of modern life. LOL. |
|
won't it Jerry?
OH and FL finally irrelevant!
Can I hear an amen? |
|
|
|
While running for U.S. Senate for Illinois. Obama promised many things. Not one promise was kept. Just another slick Chicago Politician. I remember watching him years ago running for Illinois Senate. I think it was the white liberals that got him elected. Back then the African American community did not trust Obama. He was not one of them. I think that explains a lot about the relationship with Wright. If he could sit and listen and agree with the communities hatred of white America then he was accepted. What's that old saying ? Any enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine. Something like that ? |

You are all being played by Limbaugh, etc. They meet for cocktails and laugh at you all. All the way to the bank.
Don't you see? |
|
The 7 figure is based on an unprecedented methodology for figuring likely voters. Caveat emptor!
The 3 figure, OTOH, is within the margin of error.
It's way way too soon to declare this thing over. Mobys, please take your lame attempts to demoralize us elsewhere.
Obama had a double-digit lead going into the New Hampshire primary, yet Hillary trounced him. Be prepared for some Election Night surprises, libtards! |

That idiotic post about Laughing Limbaugh pretty much takes the prize. |

like 'libtards'?
Obama is within the margin of error for McCain in Arizona. |

"I just don't think that giving the Whitehouse to "Socialism XXL" is the way to go."
Yes, well, I don't think giving the White House to a lapsed and unrepentant "conservative" party is the way to go. Giving that party a few years in the wilderness may, however, acheive the desired effect.
And yes, I know there are some good conservatives in the GOP, but they are few and far between these days. |
|
|
Because that's all they've got, at the end of the day. |
|
|
|
"Yes, well, I don't think giving the White House to a lapsed and unrepentant "conservative" party is the way to go. Giving that party a few years in the wilderness may, however, acheive the desired effect."
You will have to forgive me if I don't think your "principled" politics is principled at all.
I am however glad to hear that you think sacrificing the ideology of the courts to the likes of Breyer and Ginsburg for years to come, puting our 2nd amendment rights at risk, and giving Pelosi and Reid the unchecked power to enact their socialist agenda are all "acceptable" in order to teach the GOP a lesson. That is real big of you. |
|
Stinks to high heaven. I just looked at that poll. It is 20 pages long. Who in their right mind would agree to participate ? Certainly not any one who had a job. Stay at home living off the government T*t. Wonder who they'd vote for ? |
|
Here is TODAY's polling from Pennsylvania:
Marist: Obama 55-41 (+13)
Quinnipiac: Obama 53-41 (+12)
AP/GfK: Obama 52-40 (+12)
Franklin & Marsahll: Obama 53-40 (+13)
Muhlenberg/Morning Call Daily: Obama 53-42 (+11)

All the indications are that this election means a landslide for Obama. American voters want change in our politics and our economy; change from the failed conservative ideas, policies, and politicians of the current era. Thankfully coming to an end. It's happening now! Barack and Joe, and many more! |
|
Marvin,
I didn't mean to imply that all the folks in the top 5% income bracket are lazy. Some are and some aren't. It's the same with the other 95%.
I should have said that more hardworking Americans keep more of their money. |
|
|
|
WASHINGTON – Barack Obama leads in four states won by President Bush in 2004 and is essentially tied in two other Republican states, according to new AP-GfK battleground polling that suggests most roads to victory are closed to John McCain. Obama could win big.
While no poll can predict next week's results, the AP-GfK surveys explain why Obama is hoping not just for a win but a transcendent victory that remakes the nation's political map. McCain is scrambling to defend states where he wouldn't even be campaigning if the race were closer.
Less than a week before Election Day, the AP-GfK polls show Obama winning among early voters, favored on almost every issue, benefiting from the country's sour mood and widely viewed as the winning candidate by voters in eight crucial states — Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. |

talk about income redistribution in Acts? Luke quite plainly talks about people selling their 'things' and sharing the value of those things according to need, no?
Matthew 19:21-22: "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions." To whom much is given, much will be required. Luke 12:48
Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. 43 Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need. 46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and enjoying favor with all the people.

McCain is only down 5% in the national poll average today and although it may seem like McCain is gaining.. that is just because the Pew Research poll that had Obama ahead by 15% is no longer a part of the cumulative average.
The likely voter model versus register voter model is causing pollsters some problems. Poll after poll has shown that Obama does well among the entire group of registered voters than he does among the smaller sliver of likely voters. If Obama can turn people out in record numbers, then he will likely win handily.

Now point to the Bible verse where Jesus says that the government is supposed to do all the things that he proscribed INDIVIDUALS to do voluntarily.
I can quote a Bible verse too
2 Corinthians 9
"6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Also, do you care what Jesus says about abortion? Gay marriage? Or do you simply cherry pick Jesus teachings to try and justify the morality of your compulsive giving philosophy? |
|
The operative word in scripture is "giving" not having what you earned taken from you and redistributed to others.
I know that is a foreign concept to O-bama and Biden based on the amounts both of their tax returns (virtually nil) show they donate to others. |
|
The reason I read the Townhall blog and express my comments is because it is cathartic.
Most who live within this virtual world come here because we are like minded thinkers with the exception a few planted neo-Marxist trouble makers.
The problem is, how many people does this blog and similar blogs really reach out to?
With the spattering of conservative talk shows, conservative publications and conservative web / blog sites, how do we compete with the monstrous well financed, well orchestrated, universally penetrating Obama war machine?
Obama is appearing on National TV tonight in a 30 minute bought for infomercial / ‘acceptance speech’, hypnotically regurgitating his socialistic rhetoric.
How many visit Townhall every day compared to the millions being indoctrinated by Obama in every form of National media?
I have hope that Americans will see through his veil of deceit, I hope Obama blunders and we see the true Obama, I hope Americans understand the real consequences if they chose Obama and having a Democrat super majority.
We need to take this fight to the streets, stage McCain signs and banners, wear McCain gear, put bumper stickers on your car, engage people in discussions, volunteer at your local Republican offices, this is the biggest fight of our lives, this is the biggest fight for our liberty.
If Obama does win, keep fighting, never give into the demoralization and trampling of our liberty. |
|
doesn't sound voluntary to me. It states the obvious...that people were not doing those things voluntarily, until they banded together in the name of God and Jesus Christ. No different than banding together in governmental units. I am sure there were people who were not so crazy about the new religion that asked people to do those things, but they did so out of peer pressure. No different than majority rule.
The passages also demonstrate that even then, people did not have an equal distribution of wealth or success, and it was Christian to help those who needed more than you might need.
and 2:45 specifically says what Marx later parroted: "they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need." That passage is no different than what some are saying Marx said.
This is why people like me find GOP folks who pretend to be "Christians" are disheartened. We are supposed to help our fellow man, not say 'well, I'll help if I feel like it."
|
|
the only time I see 'given' is in that passage that notes that good fortune is God given, and that it should be shared. I find it amazing that people who claim to be so Biblically bound ignore the provisions that cause them great distress, like those I have quoted.
|
|
|
...if he showed up with all that commie "love thy neighbor" and "help the poor" bs! |
|
|
"He has lost his brand as a maverick," Rep. Chris Shays, a Connecticut Republican and co-chairman of the McCain campaign in that state, told the Yale Daily News in the latest criticism. "He did not live up to his pledge to fight a clean campaign." |
|
"42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
Peer pressure??? Please just stop already. You are embarassing yourself at this point. Oh, and you still haven't addressed the main point either, which is NOWHERE do you see the Roman government forcing the new believers to sell all their possesions in order to give to anyone as they had need. |
|
they were their own community. They policed themselves, like we do in our democracy. If you don't like the tax hikes on the very rich, then vote against those who are seeking to raise them. If you do not prevail, then you have to accept what the majority of voters decided to do.
That is democracy, just as it was among the believers cited in that section of the bible.
There is nothing in that provision that says that sharing according to each person's need, exactly as Marx said, is un Christian. To the contrary, it is the most Christian thing to do. |
|
"Because Today's GOP Would Crucify Jesus ...if he showed up with all that commie "love thy neighbor" and "help the poor" bs!"
Same question...
Point to the passage where Jesus says government should force people to "help the poor".
Otherwise just stop with your Jesus quoting, like you give a darn about His opinion on anything. Do you listen to Jesus regarding abortion? Homosexuality? Salvation? Or are you another cherry picker?
|
|
"Point to the passage where Jesus says government should force people to "help the poor".
And point to the section where it says taxes should be used to fund the Iraq war so we can be "greeted as liberators." |
|
"There is nothing in that provision that says that sharing according to each person's need, exactly as Marx said, is un Christian. To the contrary, it is the most Christian thing to do."
Of course there is nothing un Christian about sharing with those in need. But that isn't what you are advocating. You are advocating forced charity via the taxation process. You are crazy if you think that it is a Christian virtue to FORCE people to give to those in need. What does it profit someone morally if they are forced to give their money to someone? Do you think that they will feel any sense of doing the right thing? |
|
homosexuality. He said nothing about abortion as we use the term now. You cannot compare what Jesus said in the context of his time to what GOP says now about sharing wealth. Progressive taxes constitute sharing the wealth. Road building is sharing the wealth...people use the roads whether they pay for them or not.
What saddens me is that McCain knows better than to call Obama a socialist, but he knows he can pull the wool over the eyes of the ignorants in his own party who have no idea what it means to be a socialist. If you did, then you would know that we have many socialist institutions and programs, from public school to roads to a shared military. Otherwise, why not just every person for him or herself?
Democracy is what we have...you can choose to vote against Obama and the Dems, and if you lose, that's that. I think that some people like Marvin are actually anti-democracy. They hate majority rule (as that rule is created via the very undemocratic electoral college). |
|
Jesus said: "Give willingly unto Caesar all that Caesar requires to do God's work."
The Living Bible (St. James Version Translated into Modern Democrat)
|
|
Yup you are definitely the Poster Child for Stupid!
Jesus would tell us forgive them for they know not what they do. Speaking about you and your lib friends and Obama.
Ignorance is Bliss huh Angel? |
|
were charitable, but they are not. When you realize that most of our institutions are socialistic, imposed by democratic means, you would understand the difference between government imposed 'sharing' (a la the non-democratic, totalitarian USSR or China) and democratic socialism, which is what we have in our country. You would think from the statements of McCain, Palin and Hewitt, and some of you here, that you don't get to vote. You do get to vote, which is why some of you, like Hewitt, are so upset. You think you are going to lose. And you are going to lose because you didn't convince enough people that your ideas were better than Obama's and the Dem party.
That hurts, I understand. You lose the election, and ideas other than the ones you like will be implemented. But it isn't by government fiat...it is by the vote of your fellow citizens. Nothing gets done in DC or your statehouse unless the people vote for it. |
|
"Bush Forced People
And point to the section where it says taxes should be used to fund the Iraq war so we can be "greeted as liberators."
I am not the one making the idiotic assertion that Jesus would support a compulsive form of charity via taxation. Therefore I don't have to point to a passage to justify anything vis a vis the war.
You however made the same silly argument as Jerry that somehow the Bible supports your "charity via progressive taxation" policy, therefore the burden is on you to actually point to a passage where that is advocated. |
|
I never claimed to be "Biblically bound!"
Naturally you attacked me personally and failed to address just how morally bankrupt those you would elect are. O-bama gave like 6/10 of 1% to charity in a year when his income exceeded $1 million. He's all about "sharing" with others! While his half-brother lives on what, $1 per month.
Re: the other verse you quoted:
"To whom much is given, much will be required." Luke 12:48
Has O-bama told those to whom much he plans to give what will be required? Or is it just their vote?
|
|
You want to ignore the reality. No point discussing the finer points with you.
|
|
"Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. He said nothing about abortion as we use the term now."
Actually, Jesus said plenty about homosexuality, both old and new testament. You may be correct that he didn't specifically address it in his 3 year ministry on earth, but given that he was in Israel where homosexuality certianly wasn't a topic that would have been an issue there was no need for Him to address it, it had already been addressed in the Old Testament.
There was no such thing as abortion in his day, so of course he didn't address it, but that doesn't mean the bible doesn't address the topic of life, when it begins, who the author of it is, etc.
"You cannot compare what Jesus said in the context of his time to what GOP says now about sharing wealth.""
So why then do you try to use his teachings to justify forced charity?
|
|
"You will have to forgive me if I don't think your "principled" politics is principled at all."
And you will have to forgive me if I opt for a quick death over a slow, tortuous one. I'm not going to vote for a party that's going the same way as the liberals, only more slowly.
"I am however glad to hear that you think sacrificing the ideology of the courts to the likes of Breyer and Ginsburg for years to come, puting our 2nd amendment rights at risk, and giving Pelosi and Reid the unchecked power to enact their socialist agenda are all "acceptable" in order to teach the GOP a lesson. That is real big of you."
Yes, well, the GOP has only itself to blame. And I can't think of any other way to reform it. Can you?
|
|
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_f84qX3pBg
Pass It On! |
|
"Yes, well, the GOP has only itself to blame. And I can't think of any other way to reform it. Can you?"
Elect more people like Coburn and DeMint.
My fear is the quick death will result in a country that would be nigh to impossible to return to conservative principles. Too many people will get used to the government boob to suck on. |
|
|
The McCain Lawyers should come out with a fullblown call for a thorough investigation into the voter fraud that has been perpetrated by ACORN and other groups; and it would also be nice if Obama could personally be linked to it and sentenced to a long prison term himself. |
|
|
Because neither of you has a future as an exegete. |
|
that nothing in the WORD of Jesus, found in the New Testament, addresses abortion or homosexuality. You must rely upon the Old Testament, which clearly Jesus and his disciples did not fully accept or they would have remained Jewish, not Christian, no? How convenient to use the Old Testament to base your political point of view. Do you believe that the Old Testament's pov about slavery is ok? About women's rights? Do you accept the Old Testament's eating rules like keeping kosher, not having sexual relations when a woman is having her period?
And my point "You cannot compare what Jesus said in the context of his time to what GOP says now about sharing wealth." is well taken. Jesus did not live in a democracy, as we do. No one other than your fellow citizens is 'forcing' you to do anything. If you don't like your tax money spent on something, withhold it. I don't like the war in Iraq. Why must I support it with my taxes?
Are you arguing in favor of a checklist tax return, directing government to pay for what you want and nothing else? You seem to be against democracy, no?
|
|
"Elect more people like Coburn and DeMint."
But that's simply not going to happen.
"My fear is the quick death will result in a country that would be nigh to impossible to return to conservative principles. Too many people will get used to the government boob to suck on."
I don't think that's very probable. We've survived Dem "rule" before; we'll survive it again.
In the meantime, the GOP needs to figure out if it's really going to be *conservative*. If it keeps drifting leftward, why should a true conservative bother with it? |
|
"Thank you for the admission that nothing in the WORD of Jesus, found in the New Testament, addresses abortion or homosexuality."
Yes, and that's called an "argument from silence, Jerry. A logical fallacy.
What's more, Christian canonical documents emerged from the Christian community, which community is also the custodian and natural interpreter of those texts. And that community, relying not only on Old Testament precedent (the OT is likewise part of the Christian canon), but on the spirit of the New Testament religion, has proclaimed both abortion and homosexual behavior sinful.
As an outsider, furthermore, you are in no position to tell us what our texts "mean". We simply do not recognize you as any kind of authority on such matters.
Hope that clears it up for you.

'conservatives' to win a national election, just like there are not enough liberals to win a national election. You have to somehow modify your most radical points of view and get elected. |
|
|
...then Townhall.com is the Happiest Place On Earth. |
|
I'm Roman Catholic if you must know, probably what you would call a 'cafeteria Catholic'. I believe in birth control for example. I find those of you who think you can ignore Jesus' most 'radical' stances because they don't fit into your view of a vengeful God to be rather silly and very dense.
You think Jesus cherry picked the Old Testament, so you do it. Do you have sex when your wife has her period? Do you keep kosher? Do you have slaves?
But most of all, do you understand that what Sen. Obama is proposing only becomes law if the majority of people vote for people who vote for the changes? Laws are of the people and by the people. You cannot choose to violate those you don't like and not expect to get away with it.
Again, should you be able to decide what you want your taxes spent on, even if you are in the minority? May I stop funding the war in Iraq, btw, a war my Pope said was wrong? |
|
|
The McCain Lawyers should come out with a fullblown call for a thorough investigation into the voter fraud that has been perpetrated by ACORN and other groups; and it would also be nice if Obama could personally be linked to it and sentenced to a long prison term himself. |
|
|
|
because you act like one. The fact that you are an admitted "cafeteria Catholic" is indicative of this. That term is an oxymoron. A "cafeteria Catholic" is in practice a Protestant - or worse.
If you're arguing that the Christian faith really has no basis for its condemnation of both abortion and homosexuality, you not only don't know what you're talking about, but your claim to being a Roman Catholic is dubious.
As for the allegation that we believe we "can ignore Jesus' most 'radical' stances because they don't fit into your view of a vengeful God", well, I'm not sure what it is you mean. What "radical" stances? What do you take our "view of a vengeful God" to mean, precisely? And would you like to see a few selected verses from the New Testament that indicate God does in fact take vengence on occasion?
"You think Jesus cherry picked the Old Testament, so you do it."
Huh? |
|
"A "cafeteria Catholic" is in practice a Protestant - or worse."
Hey!!! As a protestant, I take offense to that!
:) |

I believe yesterday's Consumer Confidence Indicator numbers were the best indicator of where this election could be heading. The number for Oct. dropped to 38.0, an all time low. This number is 60 percent weighted on what consumers think of the future. It's not just about the present.
How can anyone feel terrible about the future if they are voting for Obama? With MSM poll numbers between 3 and 7 percent and giving the fact that they ALWAYS give an edge to Democrats, I think, for the first time, that McCain has a real chance for victory. And it may be a very big victory. Maybe 5 points.
Nobody is giving this CCI any attention. I think it may be the most important poll right now.

He favored sharing. There is nothing unChristian about a democratic society voting for legislators who create programs that share the wealth. If you don't like that, don't vote for it. But you live in a democracy.
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
and if you are driving today, that road you are using was created by a government sharing the tax money you likely did not contribute.
|

"There is nothing unChristian about a democratic society voting for legislators who create programs that share the wealth. If you don't like that, don't vote for it. But you live in a democracy.....and if you are driving today, that road you are using was created by a government sharing the tax money you likely did not contribute."
There is a big difference between government programs like roads, defense, and other institutions which serve the common good, and a government program that will give a "tax rebate" to someone who doesn't even pay a penny of tax to begin with. If you can't recognize that difference, then you are a lost cause. |

McCain could instead call for all Americans to unite behind their brilliant, talented, courageous new president. |
|
True, but not in the sense you understand it.
Read Revelation and then tell me how tolerant Jesus will be.
The Jesus you know is merely a fabrication of your mind. |
|
"Hey!!! As a protestant, I take offense to that!"
Well, I meant no offense to good orthodox Protestants. You'll have to read that comment in context: directed to someone who calls himself a Roman Catholic.

When I was young, I hung around with student radicals, including some who went on to help form the Weather Underground. I dated a Trotskyist. I dabbled in Marxism. Just like Obama. Except that I grew out of it!
This stuff may *sound* compatible with Christianity, but it absolutely is not. It's cold and inhumane. It's chilling. It's creepy. And, besides the fact that it NEVER works, it leads to totalitarianism.
The reason is that it's collectivist, and collectivism puts the collective above the individual. And when you do that, you inevitably devalue the individual and thereby devalue human life. Ask any survivor of Mao's Cultural Revolution. Ask any escapee from a North Korean prison.
"Spreading the wealth" may sound benign, but the collectivist / Marxist mentality behind it is anything but. |
|
Eggzackly.
It's completely nuts. |
|
"He favored sharing. There is nothing unChristian about a democratic society voting for legislators who create programs that share the wealth."
Jerry, re: those two sentences: one has nothing to do with the other. Jesus did not come to found, or lay down principles for, democratic society. His kingdom is "not of this world."
Conversely, democratic society does not look to divine revelation for principles on which to make law, except in the most general sense (e.g., the law against murder).
Make your case for socialism if you will, but leave Jesus out of it. |
|
"Eggzackly.
It's completely nuts."
Which, as this assessment comes from you, must mean I'm right on the money. |

Loud mouth Hugh Hewitt and his ilk contributed to the Republican Party being in the mess it is in.
No self respecting Conservative is going to be enthusiastic about a McCain victory.
Who cares whether he wins or not.
Vote Cuck Baldwin on the Constitution Party. |

is Christian. That's what tithing is all about. And roads are no more for the common good than a welfare check is. Socialism in moderation tends to keep people from more radical things like revolution, which is what would have happened in the US had FDR not created programs like WPA, etc.
The Book of Revelation is an acid trip. I find that people who accept it literally are generally not particularly sane. Just like those who read the Bible as anything except parables and stories to learn from.

Well, many posters here apparently do not know the history of failure of socialism: communalism, Co-opts, just in 18th c and 19th c America. As for Biblical socialism as lefties call it, it lasted for about a year. Sin is a pesky thing. And so is innovation, opportunity, development of freedom via individual attainments. Biblical Heaven will be one family in Christ. But, He will be the center of our life eternal. It will not depend on taking from the rich and giving to the non-productive. The democratic-republican free enterprise capitalistic system is not blessed by God if , if , if sin, scandal, corruption, evil runs through it. But, it , since the Colonial days has been our system and it has always involved people like Gov.Bradford, people like John Adams, Witherspoon, et al to ask God of the Bible to give our nation and its people-leaders good guidance via The Word. Taking care of the less able is a must but not for those who will, will , will not work because of laziness , evil, and corrupt ways. That is made up by liberalism. So today, our schools teach welfare, redistribution as a must for all of us who are productive . Yet, yet, Americans know that this is unfair and detrimental to opportunities for all. Obama and the socialist pacifists do not understand that and their university education and associates do not either. If BHO wins and all these polls do not close as Hugh and others of us want them too, the unreality of socialism will be quite evident one year from now. Then we shall how America thinks then. Prayerfull, people will come out in droves to overcome the ACORN fraud, and vote for McCain-Palin and some good GOP Senators in tough races. kgk |

who is Witherspoon?
Your ramble above is what happens when ideology collapses in the face of reality. America will still be the great democracy it is now and has been after Barack is elected. But we need to address some serious economic, social, and political problems, and we will! |
|
|
Thumbs up. (I already did.) |
|
|
|
"The Book of Revelation is an acid trip. I find that people who accept it literally are generally not particularly sane. Just like those who read the Bible as anything except parables and stories to learn from. "
And I guess it is you who gets to decide which parables and stories are authoritative and binding to learn from and which ones we can summarily dismiss as a bunch of superstitious mumbo jumbo written by cooks who didn't know anything about anything?
|
|
"Sharing the wealth is Christian."
What wealth? Whose wealth? In which context, private or public? How do you logically get from A (biblical injunctions re: "sharing") to B (taxation/redistribution of funds for purposes of the public common good?)
I repeat, one has nothing to do with the other.
"That's what tithing is all about."
Tithing is voluntary - and sacred. Taxation is compulsory - and secular. One has nothing to do with the other.
"The Book of Revelation is an acid trip. I find that people who accept it literally are generally not particularly sane."
You mean like the Roman Catholic Church, to which you say you belong?
"Just like those who read the Bible as anything except parables and stories to learn from."
Please substantiate your assertion that the Bible is merely a collection of "parables and stories." But do so with caution, because with each post you make it increasingly clear just how ignorant you are.
|
|
"keep religion out of government."
Funny, I thought you had just defended socialism on the basis of Jesus' teachings.
Well, which is it son? |
|
made it quite clear that the Bible was not meant to be taken literally. I don't have to be careful. I am entitled to my opinion.
And in a democracy, when the legislature like Congress votes to share the wealth via progressive taxation, that is fair. Whether you like it or not. Majority rules. |
|
Your fellow Roman Catholic Jerry is illustrative of what this article says, despite all your protestations to the contrary: _______________________________ Polls of the US faithful find shift to liberalism by Ed Beavan
As the US presidential election approaches, the battle for the influential Christian vote continues. A number of surveys of Christian voters suggest that there could be changes to recent voting patterns.
A survey of Christian voters by Public Religion Research suggests that the religious and political polarisation that has characterised the past two presidential elections has lessened, as younger Christians take a more liberal line on issues such as abortion and same-sex relationships.
The research, which questioned Roman Catholic and Evangelical voters, reports that young RCs (aged between 18 and 35) “are considerably more supportive of abortion rights and same-sex marriage” than older ones: 60 per cent of younger RCs who were questioned said that abortion should be legal, compared with 51 per cent of older ones. Also, 44 per cent of younger RCs polled, compared with just 26 per cent of older ones, believe same-sex couples in committed relationships should be allowed to marry. |

|
John Witherspoon was from Pa. , a minister, a pol later, a wonderful writer, signer of the Declaration and one who worked with Franklin and others to help Pa. become a state. I am a bit older than you Dud,(70) a teacher(of political science and worked in many campaigns) and pastor for 47 years and history is very important to Americans though they do not understand or even study it. Do not think that BHO's philosophy is just an innocent view of diverse ideology on how democratic republican capitalism govt. and economics works historically for Americans. He is not in that Western view of freedom. You will find that out if he wins and changes our economic system to that of his leftist associates. kgk |
|
Well, that explains it.
But I bet you have even mispresented what they told you.
"I don't have to be careful. I am entitled to my opinion."
On the contrary, not all opinions are created equal. Which is precisely WHY you need to be careful.
And in your case, the opinions you've expressed here are all pure BS.
"And in a democracy, when the legislature like Congress votes to share the wealth via progressive taxation, that is fair. Whether you like it or not. Majority rules."
Well, there's nothing wrong with that judgment that a crash course on the Founding Fathers and "democracy" wouldn't cure.
|
|
|
so I'm against the faith based initiative or the war in Iraq, I don't have to pay my taxes? |
|
Jerry so keeping religion out of government is what you are about?
So I guess when Obama says God Bless America with an empty clang should really tick you off huh?
You should write to Obama and tell him you insist he doesnt use Gods name while he is out there campaigning for a government office?
You are another confused Lib, I do hope you get well soon!
Liberalism is the Philosophy of the Stupid |
|
Interesting about Rev. Witherspoon! My ancestors were Puritan, later Unitarian, philosophers of the soil, ministers some, others saddlemakers, housepainters. You know the story. Does pastor make you evangelical? Matters not, I think you will find, as a fellow American, that Barack's view of freedom, like mine, is your view. |

The Obama bubble will burst--tomorrow, next month, maybe 6-9 months into his Presidency if he is elected. Like any cult, it is sustained as long as everyone believes, contrary external reality can be kept out and the purveryors of such reality demonized and punished. That won't be the case once Obama is "tested" and found wanting. The sooner the burst, the less damage it does and the sooner serious people can get to work and start thinking about limits and responsibility. The Democratic party has morphed into a criminal cult, and whatever happens on Tuesday everyone who wants to preserve the American political and social order will have their work cut out for them. |

A new poll coming out tomorrow has McCain now ahead on Economic issues. Joe the plumber resonates with independents.

Your arrogance (or is it insecurity? ;-))) is matched only by your utter cluelessnes.
BTW, I see you are applying the same naive, chimerical perfectionist purism to politics that you apply to religion.
That is sooooo quintessentially Protestant! |

...while you continually bash Catholicism without hyaving Clue One about it...how's that OCA thing workin' out for ya? Maybe 20,000-40,000 active members (smaller than some eensy cults I could name) and hemorrhaging members daily. And, while it's supposed to be so pure, holy, and true, it's rocked by seamy scandals with absolutely NO transparency or accountability....
Physician, heal thyself. Or else shut the heck up about other people's churches.

Palin knows the score. She is getting ready for the 2012. Go Cuda! |
|
Do you care for our Justice system? The future of the Courts in the U.S? Do you want someone who respect the Constitution and what it stands for to become the President of this great nation? Mr. Obama's extreme liberal view of role of judges should be of real concern of every voter this November. Mr. Obama believes the Warren Court was not radical enough. If Obama wins, we will see a federal constitutional right to welfare, a federal constitution mandate of affirmative action, etc., etc., federal mandates. Plus huge punitive government mandate damage awards. |
|
"Your arrogance (or is it insecurity?)"
Of course it's the latter. Because that's what you need it to be.
"...how's that OCA thing workin' out for ya?"
Well, see, it's not workin' out for me, since I'm not OCA. But I understand some faithful Orthodox laity have forced Herman's resignation and have the other corrupt hierarchs on the run.
You know me, a champion of the laity.
How's that Sodomite Mafia, boy boinking, Episcopaliaizied, feminized RCC workin' out for you? |

any comments on that quote from an article I posted? And, a related question, about your fellow Catholic Jerry? |

Hugh, how do you figure this is a 50/50 country? Rasmussen's poll a year ago statedthat they aren't. What you have, instead, is a bunch of liberals who will not tell the truth about what they believe. Obama included. So, the moderates ally with the liberals, and that is how we become 50/50.
Forty-one percent (41%) of American voters say they are conservative when it comes to “fiscal issues such as taxes, government spending, and business regulation.” A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 43% consider themselves fiscally moderate and 12% say liberal.
At the same time, 37% say they are conservative when it comes to “social issues like abortion, public prayer, and church-state topics.” On such social issues, 30% say they are moderate while 30% say liberal.
Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Republicans consider themselves fiscal conservatives. Fifty percent (50%) of Democrats and 49% of those not affiliated with either major party consider themselves fiscal moderates. |

Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby Poll:
Obama 50.2%, McCain 43.3%
Obama gains, McCain slips
UTICA, New York – Democrat Barack Obama has inched forward again, once again expanding his lead above 50% and moving outside the margin of error as rival John McCain slipped more than a full point, the latest Reuters/C–SPAN/Zogby daily tracking telephone poll shows.

It's been only 48 hours since I first suggested taking the deluded Obamaniacs' money while we take their hopes, and teach them how capitalism works - at that time, a $1.00 McCain future on intrade.com was selling at the ridiculously biased price of $.125. The savvy investors among you will be happy to know that those shares are now selling at $.159 - that's a 27% jump in value in only TWO DAYS - what other stock has done that lately?
But don't get nervous and sell those shares - when McCain/Palin win next Tuesday, the share price snaps to $1.00 - representing a 700% profit for those like me, who bought two days ago and held strong.
If you didn't buy two days ago, there's still time - a 500% profit is better than nothing, if you ask me :-)
[UPDATE] In just THE TIME I'VE BEEN TYPING THIS MESSAGE, the sale price of a $1.00 McCain future has gone from $.159 to $.165 - a 5% gain in ten minutes?!?! This is the surge we've been waiting for, ALL ABOARD!!
BUY BUY McCain!! BYE BYE Obama!!! |
|
The polls fluctuate. Hugh jumped into his portrayal of a tightening race, hoping for a surge. However, today, Zogby, Rasmussen and Gallup's tracking polls current through the 29th, among others, showed the spread increasing by 2% for Obama.
The gorilla in these cages, however, are Nader and Barr. Polls that include them indicate they may pull 4% or so. If that 4% is being reflected as undecided in the tracking polls, then there aren't many people left who can be persuaded. I also wouldn't draw too many conclusions from Reagan - whose debate the last week of October, changed the momentum.
As far as those who fear Obama - I suspect you're going to be disappointed if he's elected. He borrowed that middle class tax cut from Clinton's first election - and Clinton never enacted it. There's also little too indicate that he'll raise capital gains taxes.
Everyone loves to forget certain realities. In the first case, if you're from his home district and want to be a State Senator - you wouldn't have a prayer if you didn't run as a liberal. The same held true for Illinois - but it was a milder form of liberalism. In the primary, he ran to the left of Clinton, but in the general, he ran firmly back to the center. At each step - those that helped him in the previous one faded into the background. And when he rules, since he's interested in power, he'll rule from the center. Which means, that much of what he promises in the general is designed to get elected - not to be enacted into law.
Men like Volcker and Rubin know every bit as much on how to handle an economy, as anyone McCain talks to - and Obama is a little too smart to cave the American economy. After all, being smart, he knows he'd be a 1 term president, and since power is his goal, he will not hand Republicans the gifts they need to defeat him.

This "Obama-Is-Karl-Marx" nonsense needs to be countered by a healthy does of reality. I think you just provided it.
Cicero, one of the proud 4%. |
|
The fat lady hasn't sung, but those who paint him as the next coming of Karl Marx are more frightened, I suspect, of the fact that he is not an ideologue, whereas they are. The never ending commentary as to "what he stands for", is an indicator of that.
To understand Obama, you merely need to know that he stands for power - and little else. Rubin under Clinton and Volcker under Reagan were two of the prime elements of those successful economic actions - and the very fact that Obama reached out to them, demonstrates more about who he is, and how he will rule, than any speech. In this same vein, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Obama's campaign, as Rove pointed out, is an imitation of his campaigns - upgraded to the internet, as well as an imitation of some of Clinton's tactics. Rove noted that rather than being discredited, his methods were being confirmed.
Obama, of course, left the world of the Illinois state senate, and those who were necessary to get him elected, behind. He has supplanted them with men like Powell, Cohen and Albright on Foreign policy and defense, Volcker and Rubin on Wall Street and the Federal Reserve Board, and by learning from Clinton and Rove.
He has added, of course, a formidable volunteer and fundraising unlike anything previously achieved. \ t may be that proper comparison is Machiavelli, but it most certainly is not Marx. Machiavelli understood power and executed that power, Marx was merely an ideologue who wrote a book and died. That's not Obama.

Indeed. And that's what earns him respect.
But only from a Machiavellian point of view.
For some of us, when he becomes POTUS, he becomes the enemy to be resisted to the utmost.
I resisted Clinton in the same manner back in the day. And without going into specifics, in my own relatively anonymous and seemingly powerless existence, I participated in a signficant victory over him.
Yes, cryptic. Sorry. If I was more specific, I'd risk my pseudonymity, which I don't want to do at this point. Suffice it to say that I had fun kicking his arse.
Just as I will have fun kicking Obama's.
The neoconsertives who host and post on this blog are full of angst over the prospect of an Obama presidency.
Not me. Let the goddamn Democrats come. |

they would win this election. Don't they know by now that they have no power in the real America? They are like comedians who lost the ability to write jokes.
Leftists need to shut their mouths now and crawl back under the rocks they've been living under for good. Nobody wants them in this country. They need to go to France. |

You and I represent a conservative viewpoint that never changes - and that is not held hostage to a particular party at any given point in time. This, needless to say, is very frustrating to those within the GOP who feel that we owe them their loyalty, however they govern. Bush and Rove were also more interested in power, than ideology - which is why so little of the underlying elements of conservative thought actually translated into their policy actions. And because of this, in a very real sense, they begat Obama - someone who is more like them than many like to admit. Rather than sustaining the very propositions that enabled the GOP to obtain power, they, ably abetted by men such as Frist, Hastert, and Delay, abandoned them. Limited and small government and personal responsibility is not an idea, it is a philosophy that goes to the heart of freedom, liberty, and the economic life of our country. Peace through strength, and avoiding nation building in third world countries is also well founded in conservative thought. Maintaing a healthy suspicion of the expansion and reach of a central government whose increasing power dilutes the power of citizens and of their states, is equally central to conservative thought.
Today, we see what transpires when these basic and immutable principals are tossed aside. The GOP, having chosen to look very much like Democrats, suddenly finds itself unable to articulate a convincing message that would cause people to select it, as opposed to those same Democrats. They have, in this context, reaped what they have sown. And, a cynical public, having experienced 8 years of government run primarily by polls and by purchasing power, may now very well elect someone who will do the same thing.
It is, in one sense, a delicious irony. And like you, when it is over, we will go back to being conservatives. And perhaps, just perhaps, the powers the be, having ignored us, will suddenly find the argument again compelling. |

To the words of a socialistic candidate - Barack Obama - with dreams of his father to change America. His preaching - yes preaching day after day is that of Wright, Phelger, Farrakhan - his words are smooth but the message is one that diminishes all of us - all Americans. Barack Obama thinks he is talking to a herd of stupid sheep unaware of the precious country we know and love - with the faults that may exist - but with the freedoms that give us the opportunity to be what we want to be. Gentle Countrymen living in the great states of Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Nevada - please help us to defeat the team Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Schumer, Kerry, Rangle and all the far left socialistic member of Congress and groups like ACORN. Vote for a real American - you will recognize your country 4 years from now -with Obama and his cohorts - everything will change - yes it is change - but it is a frightening change. Vote America - Vote McCain/Palin 2008!!! |

you sound knowledgeable. However, Obama will not have to govern from the middle if he can consolidate his power and diminish democratic institutions and practices, i.e. Fairness Doctrine, etc. |

* _Heres a little insight into the kind of tax structure we Chicagoans have had to deal with under Barack Obamas Leadership; AND SO WILL YOU……….
“In 2003, Sen. Obama voted to raise the sales taxes on consumers by $59 million dollars, reinstate the state death tax that would have given grieving families a $45 million bill for new taxes, and force family farmers to shoulder $74 million in new higher taxes.
“He didn’t stop there. Sen. Obama also sought to tax life insurance so many families rely on in Illinois in an attempt to raise $9 million for the state. Not even bankruptcy cases were sacred, as he hoped to get an additional $4 million by taxing them at a time when people and small businesses need the most possible help. Sen. Obama wanted to go so far as to strip the rights of business owners to appeal unfair property tax valuations.
“By encouraging such anti-business tax policies in Chicago and Illinois while serving in the state legislature, Sen. Obama made neighboring cities and states more attractive to employers and employees who could benefit from higher wages."

"There was no economic growth during Roosevelt's first two terms. The stock market was flat and unemployment ran in the 20% range."
The DJIA closed at 53.84 the on March 3, 1933, the day before FDR was inaugurated. On March 3, 1937 it closed at 192.91. You call that flat?
It did drop in his second term, but it still closed at over double what it was when he started, which is more than you can say about W.
GDP, in 2000 dollars, was $643.7 billion in 1932, $866.6 billion in 1936, an increase of 34.6%. and $1034.1 billion in 1940, an increase of 19.3%.
The GDP figures are available at http://www.bea.gov/national/index.htm#gdp, DJIA figures at http://www.djindexes.com/mdsidx/index.cfm?event=showavgInd exData. |

I know it's standard right-wing rhetoric that FDR prolonged the depression, but I don't see evidence of that.
Strong growth in GDP throughout his administration. Strong growth in the stock market in his first four years, though admittedly a loss in the second administration, but still a net gain over the eight years (as opposed to the net loss with the current administration).
As far as trickle-down being a proven loser, after the Reagan tax-cuts we had high unemployment, with the highest since the depression in Reagan's second and third years.
It would be easier to take you folks seriously if you would bother to actually investigate something now and then, rather than repeating talking points you heard or read on some right-wing station or site. |
|
It would be easier to take folks like you serioulsy if you would bother to be truthful about Reagan's economic record.
Intrest rates, inflation and yes unemployment all fell faster under Reagan than they did immediately before or immediately after his presidency....Yes unemployment was high at the beginning coming out of the Carter years, but fell every year after 1983. When will you revisionists ever learn ??? |
|
I'm a bit late to the discussion, as I'm VOLUNTARILY handing out sweets to the trick-or-treaters coming to our door, but your understanding of Scripture is not in line with what it actually teaches.
In the first place, the references in Acts have to do with the body of believers engaging in acts of voluntary charity for those of their fellows who had need. At no time was anyone compelled to give more than he really wished to give, whether more or less. Ananias and Sapphira were killed NOT for not giving all they had to the church, which we are not commanded anywhere to do, but for LYING about what they did give. At no time did Christ ever delegate the responsibility of dispensing charity to the government. We believers are to care for family first, fellow believers second, and then the strangers in our midst. As stewards of those gifts we are given, we are not to waste them on people who refuse to step up to taking responsibility for their own lives.
Secondly, St Paul exhorted believers to never be a burden on others' productivity; he made it very plain that those who WILL NOT work should not eat. This is a far different matter than helping those who CANNOT do for themselves, which we *are* to do. He himself was a tentmaker and would, in the absence of being able to preach and be supported in that by his fellows, return to his trade precisely so he would not burden anyone. It isn't unusual these days for pastors to have 'outside' jobs, either.
There simply is no place in all the Bible where we are expected to support anyone who whines about life being 'unfair' because of his own poor choices. Truly, nobody in this country has to be poor who doesn't want to be. |

Happy Halloween!
It's amazing, is it not, how those who reject the very Word claim to know it better than those of us who accept it, in order to prove how much more charitable they are than everyone else in the room?
Envy, coveting, and theft; what the Commandments 4-10 are truly all about, and what the Founders built upon. :) |

"Intrest rates, inflation and yes unemployment all fell faster under Reagan than they did immediately before or immediately after his presidency....Yes unemployment was high at the beginning coming out of the Carter years, but fell every year after 1983. When will you revisionists ever learn ???"
Actually, interests rates, on average, were higher during Reagan's first four years than during Carter's four: 14.4% vs. 10.95%.
I will grant you that inflation was lower during Reagan's first term.
Unemployment, however, was at 9.7% in Reagan's second year and 9.6% during his third year, and was higher than Carter's worst years (7.1% in both his first and last years) during his first five years. Even in Reagan's second term, average unemployment was no better than in Carter's term. |
|
1975 (Ford): 8.5% 1976 (Ford): 7.7%
1977 (Carter): 7.1% 1978 (Carter): 6.1% 1979 (Carter): 5.8% 1980 (Carter): 7.1%
1981 (Reagan): 7.6% 1982 (Reagan): 9.7% 1983 (Reagan): 9.6% 1984 (Reagan): 7.5% 1985 (Reagan): 7.2% 1986 (Reagan): 7.0%
I defy anyone to look at these figures and say that unemployment was worse under Carter than under either Ford or Reagan. |
|
1987 (Reagan): 6.2% 1988 (Reagan): 5.5%
I guess those don't count?
1989 (Bush): 5.3% 1990 ("): 5.6% 1991 ("): 6.8% 1992 ("): 7.5% 1993 (Clinton): 6.9% 1994 ("): 6.1% 1995 ("): 5.6% 1996 ("): 5.4 1997 ("): 4.9 1998 ("): 4.5 1999 ("): 4.2 2000 ("): 4.0 2001 (GW): 4.7 2002 ("): 5.8 2003 ("): 6.0 2004 ("): 5.5 2005 ("): 5.1 2006 ("): 4.6 2007 ("): 4.6 |

It took Reagan six years to get unemployment lower than Carter's WORST. And his last four years still averaged the same as Carter's.
So, how is it that Carter was so bad?
Remember, Carter inherited a crappy economy from Ford.
Also remember, Reagan was and is the king of deficit spending. |
|
Real GDP grew 13.7% during Carter's administration, more than the 10.6% during the Nixon/Ford administration and more than the 12.6% it grew during the first Reagan administration.
So, again, how is it that he was so terrible? |
|

PA just might be the BIG surprise this year! Can't speak for Philly, they will probably stick with B.O., but from my side of the state, everyone loves Gov. Palin(that is why the OB camp is so hateful to her), We remember that we cling to our guns, religion, we are bitter, we are racist, we are rednecks, we are selfish, what will we be accused of by the democrat team next? We are actually True Americans that Love our Country dearly! |

As I have been saying, it ain't over until the fat lady sings! BTW: here come the real Americans. So watch out liberals! That is right, liberals ARE NOT real Americans! |

During Carter's administration, America had a "misery index" to measure the misery of the American people. The alternative reality you are living in is stupid. You are either misinformed or lying. Carter was horrible- I was here and old enough to know what the f&^% was going on. Either inform yourself, or shut up.

I notice you left off the last two years of Reagan for some reason....
When Reagan took office in 1981, the unemployment rate was 7.6 percent. In the recession of 1981-82, that rate peaked at 9.7 percent, but it fell continuously for the next seven years. When Reagan left office, the unemployment rate was 5.5 percent. This reduction in joblessness was a clear triumph of the Reagan program. Figure 3 shows that in the pre-Reagan years, the unemployment rate trended upward; in the Reagan years, the unemployment rate trended downward; and in the post-Reagan years, the unemployment rate has fluctuated up and down. |
|
GDP realities...
The average annual growth rate of real gross domestic product (GDP) from 1981 to 1989 was 3.2 percent per year, compared with 2.8 percent from 1974 to 1981 and 2.1 percent from 1989 to 1995. The 3.2 percent growth rate for the Reagan years includes the recession of the early 1980s, which was a side effect of reversing Carter's high-inflation policies, and the seven expansion years, 1983-89. During the economic expansion alone, the economy grew by a robust annual rate of 3.8 percent. By the end of the Reagan years, the American economy was almost one-third larger than it was when they began.
what is actually the point of your posts, are you saying we should return to the Carter years or are you saying BHO's presidency will be like Carters?? |

If one listens to some of the news reports, one would think that an Obama win is inevitable...at least that's what most of the liberal pundits and news reporters would have you believe. But, in reality, this is still a competitive race. McCain has the backing of most registered Republicans (approx 90%), and will likely get the majority of "undecided" and/or independent voters. It will be interesting though to see if the so-called "Reagan Democrats" (people like Joe the Plumber) will once again return this year to give Republican presidential candidate a much-needed boost. They certainly gave Reagan - who was initially behind Carter - the push he needed, and were somewhat influential as well in George W. Bush's first election win. Let's pray they wise up and turn out in droves this election! |
