The Clinton Freak-Out: 'Um, Wow.'
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 5:52 PM

Watch the delicious highlights over at Hot Air. It's really quite amazing.

I think K-Lo nails it when she calls it Clinton's "Tom Cruise" moment. I would not have been very surprised to see him jump on the couch.

Marshall Manson is stunned.Everyone is fact-checking.

I like Geraghty's catch:

Bill Clinton, in that Fox News interview:

OK, now let’s look at all the criticisms: Black Hawk down, Somalia. There is not a living soul in the world who thought that Osama bin Laden had anything to do with Black Hawk down or was paying any attention to it or even knew Al Qaida was a growing concern in October of ‘93.

Not a living soul in the world... except for President Clinton's own Justice Department. The U.S. Justice Department's indictment of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda's military commander, Mohammed Atef, on Nov. 4, 1998, for conspiring to kill Americans:

More on it later, but click around from Michelle's post to find many more reactions.

Wallace does a great job, asking the tough questions, but he remains really polite and non-combative. It's telling that Clinton's the one who flips. It's a "right-wing conspiracy," you see?

The Clinton Freak-Out is the No. 1 Most Viewed video on YouTube this weekend. And, in a little Internet victory, Fox was touting that point as part of its advertising of the interview. You know, instead of ripping the video down because it violated copyright. Good move, Fox. Now, almost 900,000 people have seen the great preview, and undoubtedly many of them tuned in for the whole thing as a result.

Update: Isn't Clinton supposed to be the consummate politician? Didn't he know this was gonna get a world more attention-- and mostly negative attention--than just glossing over it and saying, "well, I don't doubt that I made mistakes, but we should really be looking to the future," or something like that? Does he really think this is helping him or Democrats? I guess he probably cares most about whether it's helping him, but does he actually think this will? He looks like a very immature man who knows he screwed up.

Update: "Just read Richard Clarke's book!" Or, not.

Update: The Post's coverage leaves out that Wallace agreed with Clinton that they would do 15 minutes on the Clinton Global Initiative and 15 minutes on other topics, playing into Clinton's version of events-- that he had been brought into the interview "under false pretences." It also leaves out the fact that Wallace tried several times to steer back to the CGI, but Clinton wasn't done ranting:

Clinton had planned to discuss his climate change initiative during his appearance on "Fox News Sunday," but he turned combative after host Chris Wallace asked why he hadn't "put bin Laden and al-Qaeda out of business." Clinton shot back that "all the conservative Republicans" who now criticize him for inattention to bin Laden used to criticize him for over-attention to bin Laden.

Neither the Post nor the AP report does a lot of fact-checking of Clinton's actual assertions-- just repeats them. You'll have to go to the right-wing conspirators on blogs and Fox News for that kind of dastardly stuff.

Check out the Fox News Sunday panel right now for some of that fact-checking.

Update: "No Dan Coats-- no airstrikes. It's as simple as that."

Update: I was looking for this, but Patterico's already found it. Chris Wallace asked Rumsfeld the same questions.

Sandy you are so RIGHT...
I second that motion. It can't be allowed that the Clintons gain the Whitehouse again.

Our country and her enemies are all rooting for the Clintons, that would be a travesty of monumental proportions.

I became afraid
The depths to which this degenerate dives is unbelievable. This man was SCARY. The thing is, some of us "right-wingers" realize that our country was asleep until 9/11, and both administrations bear responsibility for not being vigilent against Islamic Jihadhists. BUT, IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU, YOU NARSSACISTIC LIAR...IT'S ABOUT PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY AGAINST JIHADHISTS!!! When he got into Chris Wallace's face, I was scared!
Let's not be stupid, and keep this in mind when the 2008 election comes around. He and his shrill wife CANNOT win the White House again. Putting these narssacists back into power will hurt our country. IT'S NOT ABOUT THEM -- IT'S ABOUT THE USA!!

and Frigglenitz...
that finger means only one thing...he is lying again. The image of Bubba denying he "did not have sexual realtions with that woman" is forever ingrained in our minds and we knew he was lying then and the same spoiled ill mannered child was evident, once again, in that interview. Play the Lewinsky tape and you could interchange the face and denials...they are all the same...Lieing leopards do not change their spots...they just learn how to use camoflague better...in his case he was talking to his useful idiots and, well, they are what they are. IDIOTS!

My letter to an editor....
This is exactly how I feel on this matter...I believe the Clintons are spinning this whole interview thing...but perhaps this time the spin will truly stop.....?

Gentlemen,
The former president is not my favorite PERSON..however...up and until the time of the outing of his 'trysts' with a young intern, I was favorably disposed to support the Office of the President. Soon after, the MAN lost my respect forever...he continues to disappoint and cause what little respect I can muster to swirl in a downward pattern and this interview with Chris Wallace was, indeed, the nail that sealed that coffin shut forever.
Mr. Clinton has protested far too much, and additionally I believe, he is orchestrating another show for his own purposes. He got out there, this weekend, and told his useful idiots how to react and what to say to anyone who will ask this question in the future....feigned astonishment and anger and pointing fingers is the weapon of choice...don't laugh..it works. The spin demons are at work and will turn this to his favor. And we must never forget that his partner is about to come onto the world stage with a new proposition.."Elect me and I will bring peace to the world AND you will get TWO for the price of ONE, again." In reality, the Clintons together, are fully responsible for the events which took place on September 11, 2001
Please keep up the work you are doing...continue exposing the truth about these two. We are in the fight for our very freedoms and way of life. Woe to us if either is allowed further control...this, is indeed, a time to try men's'(and women's) souls.

Clinton Was in Part a Symptom
In our rush to attribute blame to Bill Clinton, which is largely deserved, we must bear in mind that a lot of the problem of our nation's reluctance to deal decisively with Bin Ladeen is the fault of the American people as a whole. Imagine the uproar, sans the events of Sept. 11, if Clinton had invaded Afghanistan, ordered special forces, etc. Remember the Anti-IMF protests in Seattle? That was about the terms of loans to the devloping world, pretty tame in comparison to invading a third-world country. Minus the force of reality that the massacres of Sept. 11 assaulted the American people with, there would not have been enough support for the president to act decisively. So then while the fault of inaction lay with the presidents lack of leadership, much of the reason for that was the American people's lack of seriousness in defending the soverighnty of their country. It is worth noting because this is a fault that has not been completely corrected, as can be witnessed by the the current arguments about surveillence, geneva conventions applying to war criminals, precipitous withdrawl from Iraq et all. If we are to prevail in this conflict the people of this nation must galvanise their will to victory.

Can of worms...
Anybody else looking forward to the potential consequences of this interview? The next week is gonna be pretty interesting.
Frigglesnitz writes: Sunday, September, 24, 2006 10:13 PM
Now, now, settle down, Mr. Clinton
Didn't everyone expect to see him, face redder than fire, voice quaking, shaking his finger at Mike Wallace and telling him that he (Clinton) never had -- uh -- all the information he needed to go after this prize?
Sandy writes: Sunday, September, 24, 2006 9:47 PM
reading the transcript was even better
I thought the video footage was bad enough...but reading the transcrip was a hoot...."you've got that smirk on your face. It makes you look so clever" is what Clinton said to Wallace at one point in the interview...I must have missed it the first time I saw it but after reading it and then rewatching the video...well, he just looks like such a small, petulant, spoiled little brat who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Amazing that this thug still get on a stage and people believe him which is simply a testament to the useful idiots who elected him.
Waski_the_Squirrel writes: Sunday, September, 24, 2006 7:35 PM
You caught Clinton's mistake
You phrased it quite well. Clinton was handed a terrible question (from his perspective). He should have dismissed the question with some general answer. Instead, he went into "freak-out" mode. Disappointing from a politician who should know better.
Sandy writes: Sunday, September, 24, 2006 6:32 PM
Clinton Freak out..????..
More like a freak show...Bill was,is and always will be a liar of the worst kind. He put the American public at risk for 8 long years, while he diddled for his own personal pleasure. He tied his own hands by causing a scandal that helped to remove the real threat from the headline..instead of doing all he could to catch terrorist, and bin Laden, he was too busy trying to defend his morals..or lack of, whichever sounds best. He sent his beast of a wife to accuse a "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" of trying to corupt her mate....in reality he was KNOWINGLY allowing terrorists to gain a foot hold here...no one will EVER get us to believe otherwise...this whole terrorist thing lies at the hooves of Bill and Hill...America was terrorized while he cannoodled...and THAT is your legacy MR. Prsident...you, and your wife, are a stain on our beautiful country..His latest rant tells what a lier he is....so smart and he can't even see what he has done...to himself as well as this counrty.
..VOTE REPUBLICAN and keep America safe..
