Abusing Their Majority
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 3:40 PM
So Democrats in the House have rammed through a bill that would require a government takeover of 1/6 of the economy -- and they have done it with a three vote margin, 220-215 (i.e., with only three votes going the other way, the outcome would have been different).

With this, House Democrats have essentially thumbed their nose at the 72% of Americans who did not want this bill passed.

Now that the law has been passed, however, it's time that every conservative or Republican makes sure the public understands just what is in this legislation that the Democrats have rammed through:

It imposes up to a 10-percentage point payroll tax increase on workers and businesses that don't provide health insurance.  That's not a good way to encourage employers to add the jobs that Americans so desperately need.

You will be forced to buy a government-approved (can you say "one size fits all"?) health care plan -- at a price that the government will set

It will cut Medicare (just as the baby boomers are getting ready to need it), but redirect extra funds to inner-city social work and diversity programs with scant accountability for results.

It penalizes states that attempt to limit in any way the fees that plaintiffs' attorneys can get or the punitive damages that can be imposed.

There is no ban on federal funding for promotion of assisted suicide, or for health care rationing.

And there is much, much more.  By the time health care legislation rolls out in the Senate, every American man, woman and child should understand what a mess this piece of junk is -- and what a profound abuse of the Democrats' majority status its passage is.

Conservative Outrage
What goes around comes around. For many months articles like the one above have stated falsehoods about Obamacare, while the RNC has done absolutely nothing on it's own to address the disfunctional health care delivery system in this country. Here's just a few of the many examples of such lies: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/08/21/2009-08-21_ death_counseling_unmasked_talking_honestly_about_endoflife_ decisions.html http://www.opednews.com/articles/No-you-re-the-liar-Joe-Wi -by-Ed-Tubbs-090911-804.html http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr- 3200/

"So, can one lib please explain how this bill is constitutional?"

It's following all of the constitutional procedures for going through both houses of Congress. It got a majority of votes in the House. What's not constitutional? If your side is serious about it being unconstitutional, you should be preparing a test case right now.

Dread
Writes: "if you really believe that the Democrats have destroyed themselves and that health care reform is deeply unpopular and will hurt the economy, you should be reasonably happy that your political enemies have opened the door for your own political misfortune to reverse."

--- Actually I'm not happy at all. Who could be happy when 16 million people are out of work; when I see the country spending money it doesn't have, leaving our children with more debt than anyone had ever imagined; when I see the deficit tripled in just 10 months; when one party is mis-reading the meaning of the 06 and 08 elections and trying to ram threw energy, healthcare and education policies on one-party votes, and that is sure to result in bigger government control and less personal freedmom, minimize any recovery, and probably result in another recession; when the dollar is getting weaker by the day; When there are 36 Czars running around making decisions on our lives even though they weren't elected to anything and are largely free from congressional oversight; when the gov't owns 18% of the nation's wealth and controls 30% of the economy;when I see our adversaries like Iran, Russia, and N. Korea emboldened by the lack of focus and resolve in Washington;when I see my commander-in-chief dither about whether or not to support his own strategy and commander in Afghanistan...

No, sir, I'm not happy. I am an American first, served my country for 30 years. I didn't vote for Obama, and when he won I told everyone I would give him a chance; and if he would govern like the moderate he claimed to be in the campaign, then we'd be OK. Hasn't turned out that way. He is so far left of the country, i think it's delusional for anyone to say any discontent with him has to be partisan. It's not. It's real and come November we will see how real.

No sir, not happy at all....

The list of 220
Get that list of 'yea' votes and start working to get rid of the bums that voted for this monstrosity. The people will speak in 2010 and I just can't wait to hear the MSM spin the results! Then in 2012 Obama becomes a one-trick pony and we'll be on the way back.
Saw a great bumper sticker - "You have to have a Carter before you get a Reagan" Oh, how true that is!
Obamacare - "Just snake a tube down her nose, and I'll be there in 4 or 5 hours." - or is that 6 months?

Abusing?
How exactly is passing legislation by majority vote an abuse of the Democrat's majority?

Bills pass by majority vote. Period. That's the process.

If the bills happen to be deeply unpopular, then the people can vote for new representation in the next election.

Hence, if you really believe that the Democrats have destroyed themselves and that health care reform is deeply unpopular and will hurt the economy, you should be reasonably happy that your political enemies have opened the door for your own political misfortune to reverse.

The danger, of course, is that this doesn't turn out to be the apocalyptic nightmare you envision and people realize that your hysterics and hyperbole was bull and you find yourselves further in the wilderness.

I guess we'll find out.

Clarification
The third paragraph begins with, "now that the law has been passed..."

Only a bill has been passed. A bill does not become a law until the Senate passes a companion bill, the two bills are made uniform in conference committee, the conference committee's bill is then passed again in the House and in the Senate, and the President finally signs it into law.
vladimir estragon writes: Sunday, November, 08, 2009 11:54 PM
Ram what through?
What exactly is it that defines how a bill is "rammed" through? Health care legistlation has been discussed for years, if not decades. This particular legislation has been making its way through the Capitol since spring. And now it has passed with a majority of votes.

Now, I understand that you don't like it, but the process has been completely constitutional every step of the way. You guys lost. You knew you were going to lose all along. You can get mad and complain, but NOTHING was "rammed through."

Any leftist health care bill,
ANY, ANY AT ALL, will include tax payer funding for abortion, and illegals. It will be the GOVERNMENT OPTION, which will be the only option, because leftists want to control what we eat, and how much, what activities we can and cannot do, including religious faith, what our employment will be and what it won't be, but what they most want to control is the population! How many children we can and cannot have. With the GOVERNMENT OPTION, they can damn well do it all! But real American's will never, ever stand still for that. That's why we have a second amendment, isn't it!

Lesson?
San Fran Nan got the 39 votes by allowing the Stupek Amendment to pass but boy howdy, don't you know that in Conference, that will be gone. When Carol mentions that we all ought to broadcast the horrors of this bill, she is spot on. The GOP, Reagan Dems, Indies , Libertarians all ought to make sure on a daily level that the media is flooded with facts to show the sleeping public just how the Dems have chipped away at liberty and free enterprise. Taxes and spending will go through the roof for some 15 million supposedly ppppppooooorrrr Americans who cannot afford Care. This too is a lie. But, if Joe L and some common sense Dems join the GOP, perhaps the Bill will burn. Remember, joined with Cap and Trade, coming Amnesty, huge deficits never to be paid back, the failed Porkulas, the economy is not going to roar back and people should be reminded that this is Obama's economy and all the bills adding to our debt and lack of freedoms, are his and his alone to contemplate as voters come out in 2010.

The Dems may have a majority in the House, but this bill barely passed. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of "health care reform" by our representatives, is it? There is no way this bill every becomes
law, or anything close to it. Because, if it did, it would be the end of the democrat party as it is constituted today. The leftists who have controlled that party for some 45 years are so out of step with the American people that it is simply breathtaking. They have completely misread the 08' presidential election. Boldly, and endlessly they proclaimed that there had been an FDR like realignment, transforming the electorate forever! James Carville, flatly stated that Virginia was lost, that minorities and the young were the new demographics, conservatism was dead, and the Republican Party was relegated to being a regional party confined to the Deep South, with only angry white men as members. What Carville and the rest did not and do not understand is that 08' was an anomaly, and as Charles Krauthammer stated, "was one of the great flukes in American political history". Exactly one year later we have the proof. Carville's Virginia, elected a Republican Governor, winning by 17 points, which represents a 23 point turn around from 08'. Deep blue New Jersey, won by obama by 15 points, went Republican by 4 points, a 19 point turn around! Independents who had narrowly voted for the man-child in 08', went Republican by 33 points in Virginia, and 30 points in New Jersey. In a total repudiation of obama and his acolytes. Every now and then, these leftists will flim flam the electorate, convincing them that they're something they are not, win the election, and then govern as the leftists that they are. Then the people, seeing who they really are, reject them and their corrosive policies. The election of barack hussein obama, the greatest fluke in American political history! But it's all over now, the gigs up, the ether has worn off!!

Is this bill constitutional. The greater question is who will bring suit against it and with what resources. What idiocy
The original intent of implementing "healthcare reform" was to provide access to insurance to those who did not have or could not afford it. Now, not only are those who can't afford said insurance going to be forced to buy it, (with what remains to be seen,) they will be threatened with fines and imprisonment if they don't.

I have no idea where the people are going to go from here after their subjugation by the government but I suspect that before this bill reaches final passage, the fit is going hit the shan.
