Many movies offer beautiful images or beautiful performances, but very view deliver beautiful values. The new heart-tugging, crowd-pleaser “Bella” constitutes a radiant exception. Sweet, sentimental, and unabashedly pro-life, this little independent picture beat out several Oscar-nominated, star-studded competitors – including “Babel,” “Little Children,” and “The Last King of Scotland” – to win the coveted “People’s Choice Award” at he Toronto Film Festival. Nevertheless, the lack of big-name talent kept “Bella” from reaching your local multiplex – until now. The story centers on a fired waitress in New York City, spending one golden day with a moody chef who takes her out of town to meet his parents. The celebration of family, food, music, gratitude to God and the vibrant, spicy elements of Latino culture, makes “Bella” – for all its melodramatic elements – an unforgettable experience. Those who yearn for more life-affirming messages in entertainment owe it to themselves, and o our culture, to see and support this cinematic labor of love.
Bella opens across the country today, Friday, October 25th.
It's rated PG-13 for brief, disturbing images of a tragic accident, and thematic elements of pregnancy outside marriage.

So, in fact, it didn't keep it from reaching the local multiplex. |

What a wonderful way to escape a world where the GOP is caught with it's pants down in a men's restroom trolling for fun, or hanging outside a dorm full of underage male Congressional pages, or trolling (while married) for sexual favors at a local brothel. Take your pick, sanctimonious rightwingers, because this is what the GOP stands for in today's world:
HYPOCRISY.
A nice, feel good movie to help the right feel better about their corrupt party of hypocrites - At least, until the baby is born. What we won't see is whether Bush will actually see that this child has healthcare - that's being saved as the movie conservatives want NO ONE to see. |

We will forget the kind, loving, caring actions of Leftist of the Democrats who, instead of writing inappropriate emails to teenage interns actually take them to a foreign country, get them drunk and then sodomize them (Gerry E. Studds-http://congressionalbadboys.com/Studds.htm) and then are defended by their ilk, reelected by their concerned constituents, and honored for their bravery of abusing minors while in positions of power. What about William Jefferson caught red-handed taking a bribe with over $90,000 of bribe money (given to him by undercover FBI agents) packed away in his freezer. Then the caring, justice-loving Democrats screamed foul and demanded an end to the investigation while defending the "integrity" of this disgrace of a Congressman. The difference is, the GOP throws their trash out; the Democrats reveal and rejoice in theirs. Other Democrat disgraces: Ted Kennedy - drunk driving, involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident. Cynthia McKinley - aggravated assault etc etc. |

Bella- Why the Bad Reviews?
Last night, my wife and I went to see the movie "Bella". Set in New York City, the plot revolves around a young, single woman who finds herself pregnant and suddenly fired from her job. She is befriended by a male co-worker, with whom she confides her predicament and intention to get an abortion. As the movie progresses, the young man takes her to meet his close-knit, God-fearing family. Along the way, he brings up the idea of adoption as an alternative to abortion. That is the subtle message of the movie. As for violence, nudity, evil characters, there is none-with just enough language to earn a PG-13 rating.
Altogether, I enjoyed the movie, although the ending was a little anti-climactic, sort of like a paragraph without a concluding sentence. Nevertheless, it left us with a warm feeling. Not so the New York Times and other mainstream press reviewers. As the movie started, I recalled that this movie had gathered mostly negative reviews, so I decided to research some of them. I concentrated solely on the newspapers and neglected blogs, organizations and other reviewers. Here is a sampling of what I found:...
