Senator Cornyn's Opportunity
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:05 AM
The expected retirement of Ohio Senator George Voinovch combines with the retirements of Missouri's Kit Bond, Florida's Mel Martinez and Kansas' Sam Brownback to offer National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn an opportunity to recharge the NRSC's volunteer/donor base.  The chance to recruit young conservatives for four key seats with rhetorical skills and a deep commitment to Reagan conservatism is a chance to energize the base quickly.

An NRSC  fund to defend the seats has to established and segregated from other funds, just as one needs to be established for challengers to Democrats seats.  The NRSC is still recovering from its disastrous 2006 cycle when it tried to raise money for the likes of Lincoln Chafee and saw its credibility hit bottom with conservatives.  If Senator Cornyn established contribution options for donors so that their money goes to particular efforts and not to defend incumbents' seats (who ought to be well positioned to raise their own cash), the NRSC will quickly become the key coffer to fill in anticipation of the 2010 vote.

A similar option exists for NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions: organizing a fund the money from which will go only to challengers of Democratic seats.  Both ideas are discussed in GOP 5.0, and the time to get started on the infrastructure is now.  Neither the NRSC's or the NRCC's website has been updated yet to reflect the 2010 cycle that is alrewady begun.  Time's awasting.

Senator Cornyn
Senator Cornyn needs to hit up the hedge fund community. Senator Schumer called pretty much every hedge fund to ask for a contribution and many said yes, not because the are Democrats, but because they want access if they need to get in touch with a senator. Senator Cornyn needs to do the same. Hedge fund managers are the ones able to write the $28,500 checks to the RNSC.

The RNSC also need to stay out of primaries. They should be ashamed of supporting Lincoln Chafee. He even refused to vote for George W. Bush in 2004.

No money to NRCC or NRC ever again
Contributed money I really didn't have and couldn't afford via the NRC to help McCain. Spent every weekend in October & November making calls & walking precincts.

I now get four to six pieces of fund-raising direct mail each week, and two or three phone calls a month.

AND to add insult to injury, my bank debit card information was hijacked and I am suspicious it happened in connection with an online donation I made to the NRC (because otherwise I never used it online, using a different card). I could be wrong, just speculating, no allegations, just wondering.

But never again, never, ever, ever, ever, will I send money to anything connected with the national Republican party.
