President Obama Goes to Russia

This morning I came across a great piece by Ron Christie on the Hill's Pundits Blog commenting on President Obama's speech this past Tuesday to the graduates of the New Economic School in Moscow.
As Mr. Christie notes, President Obama provides quite the revisionist take on the Cold War and how communism met its ultimate demise.
According to the President:
"And then, within a few short years, the world as it was ceased to be. Now, make no mistake: This change did not come from any one nation. The Cold War reached a conclusion because of the actions of many nations over many years, and because the people of Russia and Eastern Europe stood up and decided that its end would be peaceful." Sounds great, but too bad it didn't happen that way. First off, communism's reign was not a short and sanguine one, and its end did not come arbitrarily. As Mr. Christie notes:
"The ignorance of American and world history, evinced in just two short sentences, is shockingly revealing. First, Mr. President, I daresay the people of Russia and Eastern Europe hardly decided to stand up and decide that the Cold War's conclusion would be peaceful. You might ask the citizens of Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria to name a few countries if their polite request for the Soviet Empire to withdraw from their borders was met with a peaceful response." Second, there was one nation that can be credited above others for the fall of communism, and that's the United States:
"The United States held the Russians at bay while supporting the Solidarity movement led by Lech Walesa in Poland and others who dared to rise up against the Soviet Union in their quest for freedom and democracy." I don't understand why the President can not give our nation the credit it's due when he travels abroad. There's nothing to be embarrassed about, Mr. President; we live in the greatest country in the world.

Why would a Kenyan be proud of the US of A ? |
|
You are extremely thin-skinned as are just about all leftists these days. As his poll numbers continue to decline, you will become even more so, and the rest of us will laugh heartily.
The man is in over his head. He can't even speak coherently without the teleprompter. Were you one of those who criticized Bush for his use of a teleprompter? Did you stand up for him when he was being criticized for it?
What would the lefties had said if Laura Bush carried around an EXTREMELY expensive handbag? I am sure there would have been the devil to pay if she had done so. With Michele, though, it is suddenly ok.
Read the research on how people have changed over the years Vlad. We are an ADD nation...I am not saying I am any better than anyone else, but at least I am aware of the tendency and try to fight it. |
|
"When you have nothing to add, you put words into people's mouths. I am not saying that Americans are stupid."
I stand corrected. You said more and more of them have ADD.
"You seem to be a little thin-skinned when it comes to criticism of Obama."
Who's thin-skinned? I'm laughing out loud. The thread about Obama's Winston Churchill remarks was funny enough to be on Saturday Night Live or the Daily Show - only it was REAL. |
|

|
When you have nothing to add, you put words into people's mouths. I am not saying that Americans are stupid. We just want easy answers.....more like many Americans are lazy. They want hope and change, but many do not want to do anything personally. Those people will grow as disillusioned with Obama as many did with Bush. When they realize he is merely a human, and he can really do very little to improve their lives, they will turn on him.
I see nothing on this thread that compares in the least with the BDS of the left. You seem to be a little thin-skinned when it comes to criticism of Obama. Toughen up because I guarantee you, it is going to get worse--much worse. |
|
|
I believe you should add in that he has now appointed approximately 32 Czars who are accountable only to him. People who do not need to be approved or scrutinized by any other members of the government. Clearly a way to circumvent our system. |
|
...dispassionate look at history and giving credit where credit is due.
But do you really feel this president is honest and dispassionate? It seems to be he's as biased as those with so-called ODS.
He seems to have adopted the anti-American, anti-Constitution notions of the academics who reared him. I don't consider him Satan incarnate, like people did Bush. BHO's just an ordinary, garden-variety progressive who feels the world would be a better place if America is dramatically diminished. |
|
15. Circled the globe so he could openly apologize for America's greatness. 16. Told the Mexican President that the violence in their country was because of us. 17. Politicized the census by moving it into the White House from its Department of Commerce origins. 18. Appointed as Attorney General the man who orchestrated the forced removal and expulsion from America to Cuba of a nine-year old whose mother died trying to bring him to a life of freedom in the United States. 19. Salutes as heroes three Navy SEALS who took down three terrorists who threatened one American life and the next day announces members of the Bush administration will likely stand trial for "torturing" a terrorist who had played a part in killing 3000 Americans by pouring water up their nose.
20. Air Force One over New York City. 21. Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure Europe that the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be on their own with the Muslims. 22. Began the process of nationalizing the Auto Industry and the Insurance industry. 23. Announced that for intents and purposes the Health Insurance Industry will be nationalized. 24. And last but not least he goes to Russia! What next?
We only have 1360 more days to go... God help us all!
Are you who voted for this piece of shiit Still proud of the fact you voted for him, or are you finally to see the light and admit you made the mistake of your life? From an email I received from a very sharp individual |

The list is so long I'll have to two part it.
Part 1
Observations on the President's Early Days: 1. Offended the Queen of England. 2. Bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. 3. Praised the Marxist Daniel Ortega. 4. Kissed Hugo Chavez on the cheek. 5. Endorsed the Socialist Evo Morales of Bolivia. 6. Announced we would meet with Iranians with no pre-conditions. 7. Gave away billions to AIG also without pre-conditions. 8. Expanded the bailouts. 9. Insulted everyone who has ever loved a Special Olympian. 10. Doubled our national debt. 11. Announced a termination of the space defense system the day after the North Koreans launched an ICBM. 12. Despite the urgings of his own CIA director and the prior 4 CIA directors, released information on intelligence gathering. 13. Accepted without public comment the fact that five of his cabinet members cheated on their taxes and two others withdrew after they couldn't take the heat. 14. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who quickly identified as "dangers to the nation", groups including veterans of the military, and opponents to abortion on demand, and who ordered that the word "terrorism" no longer be used but instead referred to such acts as "man made disasters".

[["I'm very proud of the traditions of Democratic and Republican presidents to lift the Iron Curtain. But, you know, we don't have to diminish other people in order to recognize our role in that history."
Any arguments with that? You have a problem with the president of the U.S. saying nice things to foreigners when he's on a foreign tour? You have a problem with the president of the U.S. crediting his predecessors?]]
That's in essence what I asked yesterday, having quoted the same thing from the text of his statement.
I've concluded that their ODS prevents them from looking at it dispassionately. They cannot answer the question, therefore. |
|
"You lefties let BDS color EVERYTHING! It was an obssession. You have seen NOTHING even similar from the right on Obama."
Yes I have. This thread, for example. How about the parallel one, where Town Hall jumped on him for praising Winston Churchill in a speech in ENGLAND.
"Americans have gotten more ADD over the years."
This is what the conservative argument always boils down to, isn't it? Americans are stupid. You can't accept that Obama won a popular victory and is supported by a strong majority. You just can't make that compute, so you have to seek some escape clause, people are stupid, or he's not really an American, or something, anything to avoid simply facing reality. |
|
You lefties let BDS color EVERYTHING! It was an obssession. You have seen NOTHING even similar from the right on Obama.
If you were not castigating those on the left when they showed BDS, then you really have no right to comment to the right about any perceived slights to Obama now. It is possible that you thought all of the comments about Bush were right on. Well, accept that many on the right feel the same way about the comments about Obama doing damage to the country.
Americans have gotten more ADD over the years. We want real fast solutions and neat tie-ups for any problems. The left seems to think the government is the answer to problems, whereas, the right thinks individuals are. As long as we have these polarized views, we are going to see things very differently. |
|
...at home and an obsequious bower and scraper abroad.
And it all makes sense within the proud progressive mindset: Criminally consolidate power with lightening speed at home and give it away with both hands abroad.
This is what America voted for and this is what she is getting. He's doing all this with the consent of the governed. |
|
"Why didn't he stop at the first sentence. Show me who is diminishing other people in order to recognize our role?"
Um, all the American conservatives who insist that Ronald Reagan won the Cold War, and claim that anybody saying otherwise is "diminishing" the country. |
|
Well, let me help you out there, Michelle.
You can begin by understanding BHO by simply doing what Jeremiah Wright demanded on Hannity in March '07: Google James Cone and black liberation theology:
All things white, rich exploiting, colonizing European should at long last bow to all things brown/black, poor, exploited, colonized African/So. American/Middle Eastern.
Of course, the USA symbolizes the former and needs to be taken down a peg and quit causing trouble.
Freedom and free markets are a bad thing. Look at what people do with freedom. Exploit the weak and grab the goodies.
A weak America is a good America, that will be beloved by all.
|
|
"I'm very proud of the traditions of Democratic and Republican presidents to lift the Iron Curtain. But, you know, we don't have to diminish other people in order to recognize our role in that history."
Why didn't he stop at the first sentence. Show me who is diminishing other people in order to recognize our role?
He does this regularly. He cannot recognize the accomplishments of the US without diminishing them in some way. |
|
|
Yes I have a comment. This is another strawman of The One. He loves his "buts". Can you show me anyone who has "diminished other people in order to recognize our role"? |
|
None of the right wing sites include what Obama said immediately after the shout-out to Walesa and Havel:
"I'm very proud of the traditions of Democratic and Republican presidents to lift the Iron Curtain. But, you know, we don't have to diminish other people in order to recognize our role in that history."
Any arguments with that? You have a problem with the president of the U.S. saying nice things to foreigners when he's on a foreign tour? You have a problem with the president of the U.S. crediting his predecessors? |
|
|
Thanks for your post. Unfortunately, many here will ignore the facts. |
|
Bush Derangement Syndrome was NOTHING compared to the raging fever you guys are suffering from.
Pounding our chests and demanding that all nations give us credit for everything good in the world is what we call "jingoism." Thank God Obama doesn't practice it. |
|
Walesa himself has a somewhat different perspective. In his comments on the death of Ronald Reagan, Walesa wrote: "When talking about Ronald Reagan, I have to be personal. We in Poland took him so personally. Why? Because we owe him our liberty. This can't be said often enough by people who lived under oppression for half a century, until communism fell in 1989."
Even they realize how much of their freedom is due to the work of Reagan |
|
Obama is a "wuss" Someone who has grown up under the tutelage of 60's women has little chance to be a Man who is willing to defend himself and his nation. When I was playing basketball growing in Chicago I saw many, many "wusses" who would be chased off the courts because they would not fight back. Obama would not have played on many courts I played on he would have been afraid of the bullies. Russia and Communism are bullies who played Obama for the Wimp he is, and will continue to do so. Standing up for America is something Reagan loved to do because he believed in it's inherent greatness Obama believes America is the problem not the solution. Have we had enough of him and his policies yet? I have. |
|
no matter how you look at this speech. He's weakening our standing among nations even as he stands toe to toe with powerful world leaders who consider him the interesting teenager in their group.
He's distorting our actual history; his ommiting or downplaying the heroic efforts of our allies and the Polands of the world.
Our own President is betraying us - as the camera's are running.
Eerie and scary. |
|
...of history is exemplified by their infamous president, Mr. "God Dam* America" Hussein himself. The essence of their history is denial of all good things the USA has accomplished or for which it has stood. Instead the lefty lib spin on America is: white Europeans and their descendants are evil incarnate; the actions of white Europeans and their American descendants were and are the worst humanity has ever experienced; whatever good results happened in the world, they happened against evil, white Americans or against the wishes of evil, white Americans; nowadays, evil, white Americans are despicable, rich, evil, white, heterosexual conservatives or Republicans who deserve whatever "payback" people of color or "alternate lifestyles" wish to inflict upon them.
We hear you loud and clear in your posts here, lefties. |
|
Acknowledging the contributions of others does not diminish the United States of America. Why is it that people get so offended anytime someone takes a critical look at history instead of painting it with a broad stroke of American patriotism.
I know a lot of Czechs who would be offended (and rightly so) if you were to tell them that in the grand scheme of things their fights and struggles did nothing to help overthrow communism b/c it was all the work of the grand old US of A.
It's ridiculous to think Obama is putting down America. Hannity had to crop the footage to support his point on his show. |

which essentially say the same thing, are we going to see on this issue? |

-8 today, and droppin' like a lead balloon. Carrying around $6000 purses can do that, now with unemployment at 10% and on the way to 11%, suddenly, "the one we have been waiting for" has turned into the second comin' of Jimmah Cawtah. Though Mrs. Cawtah never had no $6000 handbags. Hoodish behavior, for sure! |

|
What part of this statement is wrong Raff? "The United States held the Russians at bay while supporting the Solidarity movement led by Lech Walesa in Poland and others who dared to rise up against the Soviet Union in their quest for freedom and democracy." I don't mind Obama bringing up that we have done things in partnership with other countries, but I do think he very much does not give our country credit when credit is due, and to use a Republican President that actually did good and brought down the wall would be a good way to start, but this small minded man is too insecure to blow someone elses horn ,when his lips only blow his. |
|
and kiss our enemies butts. That will make us respected by other radical socialist mongrels. He's an America hating socialist Marxist. He's "remaking" our country in his imagine.
Why else would he be cramming through all this garbage in congress, and flying all over the wold "meddling" in every country's business who will give him an audience. He should be as POTUS here at home wringing his hands and pulling his hair out worrying and trying solve our nations problems. He's creepy. |
|
Where will all the leftminded thinkers and pied piper followers go when the rest of our Freedoms are eroded? Answer: No other place is like the United States of America and if you don't start paying attention, it will be gone...You will have nowhere else to go and if that's the way you'd like it, get the hell out-NOW!!! |
