Obama Campaign Heralds No "Change" in Race Relations

Some Republicans and even conservatives have toyed with the idea of supporting Barack Obama, out of a sense that it might be "good" for race relations for America to have its first black president.
But according to a news report in The New York Times today discussing a recent New York Times/CBS poll, their hopes may be misplaced:
The results of the poll . . . suggested that Mr. Obama's candidacy, while generating high levels of enthusiasm among black voters, is not seen by them as evidence of significant improvement in race relations.
That's a remarkable finding. How can people can believe that most (or all) of white America is irremediably prejudiced against blacks, when perhaps a majority of this country is willing (enthusiastically, in some cases) to trust a man who identifies himself as African American with the most important job in the world?
At the very least, it's dispiriting. It raises the question of whether all the grievance-mongers like Jesse Jackson have done such a good job at instilling interracial suspicion and hostility that it will be almost impossible ever to overcome.
If Barack Obama really wanted to perform a service for this country and for blacks, he would make an effort to undo some of the terrible harm that Jackson and other purveyors of a victim mentality have inflicted.

The Uniter of Races? By belonging to a Black Liberation Theology Church? Is that how you "unite" people?
Reason # 4763 that Obama is a phony.

I've got news for the Obama camp. The Race issue has reared its ugly head! Its worst then ever, thanks to the radical Rev.,Wright spectacle and his cheering church crowds, in response to the "anti"white/America rhetoric etc,. We now are aware of their deep seated resentments. They have served notice for whites to keep their mouth shut, unless the words are favorably about Afro Americans! How can we have a balanced, truthful dialogue, between the races, when blacks are so defensive and sensitive? Just ask Geraldine Ferraro, Clinton, Nader and others. Are we now fearful, to express correct facts, re-garding a racial situation??! In todays world this should not be happening. Blacks excell in sports, entertainment, equal opportunity. Let PAST Injustice stay buried, so our Country can positively move forward! Amen

Obama has a unique, historical opportunity to heal racial tension in this country. Will he step up to the plate? |
