What's Being Missed in Obama-Biden Coverage
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 9:00 AM
I made a big deal of this on Larry King last night because I can't understand why no one else is talking about it.

It goes like this: Barack Obama, seemingly, chose Joe Biden to be his VP based on foreign policy expertise. Yet, they have had very public, recent, disagreements over foreign policy. Particularly over:
-Obama's readiness to become president. (Biden said Obama wasn't prepared).
-The original vote to go to war with Iraq. Obama said Hillary's vote for war proved she did not have the judgment to be president. So, how can Biden be Obama's vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency, if he did the same thing?
-War funding (Biden yes, Obama no.)
-Whether to meet with hostile nations without "precondition." (Obama said yes, Biden no)
-Whether to label Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a "terrorist" group. (Biden yes, Obama no.)
-Biden's controversial plan to divide Iraq into three ethnic, sectarian enclaves.
So who is going to fold? Newbie Obama or Foreign Relations Chairman Biden, who absolutely prides himself on his FP knowledge?

The Dems are saying Biden is now Obama's "company man" and he'll be "loyal" and do whatever Obama says. That's wishful thinking. I don't believe Biden is capable of swallowing the Obama company line for the next three months. It's simply not in his DNA.

I anticipate a slip-up and a public disagreement over foreign policy ahead. Their records are too contradictory and Biden's too much of a loose cannon.

Obama and Biden have to many differences
Obamas pick of Biden doesnt make sense,
he shows his inexperience by picking a man that has more experience then Obama, but Biden doesnt agree with Obama, thats the problem, all they can do is attack President Bush, but Bush is not running for President, and McCain is his own man, and McCain disagreed with President Bush more then anyone, go's to show his inxperience, why would you not pick Clinton the person that got 18 million votes, more then the both of them put together, I think Obamas wife doesnt like Hillary and thats why Obama didnt pick Clinton, that shows Bad Judgement, you listen to your wife on a decision like this, and if he thinks the Catholics will vote for a pro choice candidate, I dont think so as a Catholic myself, Catholics will vote for Pro Life.

An Accurate Description
Amanda,
Thank you for all you do.

Now the comment. Obama is a specious demagogue. It is bizarre that he is in this position. He talks about his judgment as an asset. His pride is so huge. How does the wisdom go...pride goes before the fall? Pride blots out prudence, courage, and justice. We all better pray and work so that this man does not become President.

Let's also pray that the Pelosi do-nothing House who've earned the lowest congressional approval rating in history will heavy democrat losses. Why doesn't the media talk about their approval rating more? They had no problem talking about the approval rating of President Bush, and making fun of him incessantly for the last 6 years.

Joe has been posting the same things here for over two years. No matter how bad the Republican candidate is, the Democrat is worse by definition. I suspect it is because there is no one person named Joe but rather a franchise of several posters operating under various names. They keep it to talking to very few points with a favorite than varies from one day to the next. Anything more than cutting and pasting would reveal personal variations that would expose the fraud.

A couple of days ago, Virginia Patriot pointed out that Joe's posts originate from various cities around the country in the "columnists" section. I suspect he is part of the McCain "anti-conservative" attack team here at TH.

So, King,

Since Biden is known for his foreign policy chops, let's start with Iran.

Question. Do you personally beleive that Iran is developing peaceful energy generation or creating the means to create nuclear arms?

If the latter, please explain to us how BO is going to handle the situation better than McCain.

And before you mention negotiations, please keep in mind that the EU and the UN have been negotiating and passing sanctions for the better part of 5 years.

I watched the Larry King panel and you were right on target. Larry wasn't going to follow up on the glaring issues which divide Obama and Biden.

You are simply ahead of the political curve.

Wait until they are directly questioned how the reconcile the differences. You'll hear Biden curbing his previously staunch positions - attack Bush - and attempt to tie McCain and Bush.

That is the game plan.

Of course the problem with any well-made plan.... uncontrolable factors: Clintons, Cliton-supporters, Gaffe-prone trio (Obama, wife, Biden), News to come (Edwards' paternity, Rezko revelations, more to come on Ayers, etc)

BRENDA
If you are going to use family history as an argument against McCain, then Obama's is fair game. Obama was born into a radical left family (ie: communist sympathizers); his mentor 'Frank' was a card carrying member of the communist party; many, if not all, of Obama's friends and associates in Chicago are radical leftists. Therefore, Obama is a communist sympathizer at least, a likely Manchurian Candidate as has been stated weeks ago; and plans on centralizing the entire U.S. economy and everything else. This leads us to the fact, then, that a vote for Obama is a vote for communism. Thanks for making it so clear, Brenda.
Rosemary writes: Sunday, August, 24, 2008 12:33 PM
Ticket
Obama/Biden is a strange one - the top of the ticket is a very thin resume and the lower half the ticket is all hot air - what a balancing act. The two candidates will be presenting themselves as friends of the "common man" - I find this type of pandering disgusting. No one believes that either Biden or Obama are "friend of the common man" - both of them have lived rather uncommon lives - collecting pay checks provided by the taxpayers of this country.
John McCain speaks as if he were talking to adults with common sense - that is why we heard the "100 yr remark" and the "house remark" - sensible people understand the real meaning of those remarks. John McCain gets it and has figured out every issue important to this country - he thinks he is talking to sensible adults able to understand important issues.
Andylit writes: Sunday, August, 24, 2008 12:09 PM
And Brenda's Point is....
So Brenda,

Are you telling us McCain is a bigamist? That is how you worded it. Beyond that, please keep one thing very firmly in mind.

In many ways, the man Carol married in 1965 was not the battered crippled man who returned from 5 years in hell. Further, he apparently tried to make it work for 5 or more years before throwing in the towel.

As for his family history, I must wonder what possible relevance this could have on his view of the world. Let's be clear. His Great-Great whatever owned slaves 70 years before he was born.

McCain and his father and grandfather chose the military life path. 3 generations of total separation from the antebellum southern culture and you think this is an issue?

Wow.
Danny writes: Sunday, August, 24, 2008 11:44 AM
Not Exactly
I don't think it's a question of folding. Obama picked Biden in the mold of Lincoln, his political idol, because he wants a rival to challenge his own worldview. That shows strength, not weakness.

And you point out that Biden and Hillary both voted in support of the war, but Biden has been one of the most vocal Dem critics of the war in the last few years, while Hillary remained unapologetic and behind the liberal curve.

I also disagree with the premise that Biden was chosen primarilly on foreign policy cred. His speech yesterday talked about kitchen table issues. He was chosen to connect with union workers in Middle America. The foreign policy edge is a bonus.

Which Candidate Slip-Up?
John "Wayne" McCain can't define "rich" or can't he because he's one. McCain can't remember how many homes he has because he remembers what's it's like to not have a kitchen so now he has so many he can't count them. McCain writes about his 2nd marriage however, he can't remember that he married his 2nd wife before his 1st marriage ended. McCain can remember his "near death experiences" towards leading the US to defend itself but his family owed a plantation in Mississippi, that's leadership alright! McCain is a liar and will say and do just about anything short of being moral and in-touch with the average American family.

Not Cynical Enough
Amanda is too young to be analyzing politics and it clearly shows in this assessment.

Amanda is just not cynical enough.

If you start with the assumption that politicians have no morals, scruples or ethics but are simply opportunists then you are in the ballpark.

The old saw that "politicians make for strange bed fellows" was said by someone who like Amanda who doesn't understand politics.

As Mark Twain and Will Rogers often lamented, you just can't be too cynical about politicians.

The difference between a lame satirist like Ann Coulter and a funny satirist like Mark Twain is that Ann Coulter believes it is only Democrats who have no morals, scruples or ethics. Whereas Mark Twain and Will Rogers understood the reality and were much better satirists for it.

Why Biden?

Easy, he's an insider. Obama's an outsider, relatively speaking in years. Obama is going to do everything he can to insure what happened to Jimmy Carter doesn't happen to him. But, to be immature and thumb his nose at the Democrats, he picked a *contrarian* insider. Which brings me to the other point made by Mark Twain and Will Rogers. Politicians are extremely immature.

Furthermore, at age 65 Joe Biden is not 2016 presidential material. Therefore the conclusion must be that Biden is a one term pick and that during his first term Obama and the Democratic party will be casting about for the 2016 Democratic nominee.

Biden is a one-termer.

To go one step further: the #1 job of a VP is to be able to take over the Presidency. Obama chooses somebody who not even the vast majority of Democrats wanted to have run the country to fill that job. That's judgement for ya'!

Obama has other positions for "advisors"--including just letting Biden stay in the Senate and come for consultations at the WH every so often. He doesn't need to pull this guy into his administration just to hear what he's thinking about issues.

Of course this would all be moot if Obama had any experience himself.

King Liberal, there is a fundamental
difference between having a "yes man" and having a running mate who is diametrically opposite of everything Obama has been spewing.

Besides, Obama picked Biden allegedly for his foreign policy expertise, so that will make Obama the "yes" man when Biden speaks about foreign policy issues. Or do you think Biden is just going to cave because Obama says to?

Do you think Biden would have accepted the position if he really knew who was pulling Obama's strings? I'm surprised Biden would want to align himself with someone who has the backing of George Soros, a terrorist, a convicted felon, a slew of corrupt Chicago politicians, a hate spewing mentor etc, etc.

With Obama and Biden at the helm the Iraqis have got to be terrified that Biden may well try to separate their fledgling democracy into factions.
