Dems Cash In When Hardball Goes Gotcha

The fringe left is threatened by Townhall friend Rep. Michele Bachmann (R.-Minn.) because she has the nerve to speak aggressively about Obama's bad judgement.
(I gotta tell you, liberals just can't contain themselves around attractive, conservative politicians like Sarah Palin and Bachmann. It drives them up the wall)
Bachmann drives them so nuts they used one of her recent appearances on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews to raise money for her opponent. This incident also illustrates a cozy relationship between the blogs, shows like Hardball and Democratic political candidates.
So what did she do that was so, so terrible? She had the audacity to say flat-out that Barack Obama associated with people who have anti-American views like William Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. She stated these facts and Chris Matthews didn't like it one bit.
In the segment, Bachmann plainly said Obama's former associates, who said things like "GD America!" (Wright) and posted photos of Che Guevara on the door of his office (Ayers), gave her concern Obama "may have anti- American views."
Matthews tried to spin that and make her say she thought ALL liberals were America-haters. The tape is truly stunning.
His line of questioning from there went like: "What parts of America would you say are anti-American? What parts of this country?" and " Do you think those 30 percent liberals [living in the US] are anti-American? The 30 percent of this country that calls itself liberals, are they ant-American?"
Bachmann said some of them, like Ward Churchill, probably were.
Matthews followed up: "How many congresspeople, members of Congress, do you think are in that anti-American crowd you describe?"
Bachmann told Matthews the media should figure that out for themselves and Matthews was incredulous Bachmann would suggest such a thing.
The liberal blogs, which regularly make fun of Bachmann's faith in God, went nuts over the spot. Bachmann's Democratic opponent El Tinklenberg said she went "too far" and blogged about it on the DailyKos.
It got picked up around the HuffingtonPost, Democratic Underground and lots of other liberal activist blogs. Tinklenberg's complaints helped him pull in $450K in one day. And he was nice enough to write a thank you note to the Kossacks.
Maybe he should thank Chris Matthews for the checks, too. I expect it won't be long until Matthews has an official (D.) after his name and then they can all officially start raising money for their party together.

I know people that are from her area, and they have no idea how she got voted in, because everyone seems to know she's looney tunes! And hey, about Palin and McCain, how about just leaving your precious George and Cheney in office? Let's just ruin the country once and for all-thanks to all the right wingers that put this country in the toilet and flushed! Why is it I, a simple nurse from a small town, could predict everything that was going to go down when George, and oil man with a C average, made his policies, but none of you could? Well, it's actually not quite as simple as saying that Bachmann bravely told the truth and stands by it. She is now saying that she misspoke because big bad Chris Matthews forced her to, and she didn't mean a word of what she actually said. So much for "truthiness". Bachamann put herself into the situation that she is now blaming on the evil media and gotcha journalism. What she really needs to do is sit in a circle of folding chairs somewhere in a church basement with styrofoam coffee cup in hand and say, "Hi, I'm Michele Bachmann, and I'm a media whore." |

So then as the "journalist" he is, he tried to corner her. Could not do it. Now the puss started oozing.
This Tinkleberry Dem running against Bachman can get all the cash he wants he is not going to beat Bachman - she's smart and her consitituents know it.
She makes a legitimate observation and gets lambasted by these far left goons. That's un-American.
Not to mention a sign of having no class whatever. In another age, pople like Matthews and his followers would fit right in with Dick Nixon.

I am at a slight disadvantage since I am, presently, on the other side of the world. I am limited to dial-up and it would take me 30 or more minutes to view the actual interview. Nevertheless, going on past personal experience I am, very much, inclined that the good Congresswoman did not say what the libs claim. By past experience I am referring to numerous times I have posted something only to have some mindless left winger totally pervert what I posted. How many times I have been called a McCain supporter, I cannot even count. I have never supported McCain.
Anyhow, now that bombing govt. offices is not Un-American and disagreeing with Obama means you are a racist, I suppose I will have relearn some new leftist dictionary. |

GOP is imploding and it is tearing itself apart! Their various strains are at war with each other and it will not subside until the entire party is demolished and diminished. Social conservatives are frothing at the mouth after realizing that the fiscal conservatives have been using them as the footsoldiers and votes to get their money, but gave them nothing in return. Tax cuts got jammed through, but Roe v Wade still stands, as does separation of church and state, evolution is still being presented in the schools regardless of all futile attempts to stymie it, and gays can marry in an ever increasing number of states. Now, the "great" unwashed masses of the radical right who would love to see our own American Ayatollah running this country as a Christian theocracy are slowly waking up from the stupor they have been in and they do not like it one bit! They have been had for decades: led by lying capitalists who have sold them lies for ideology while destroying the very things SoCons value most - family, God and Church, used as mere cattle for votes and voices.... And now they are rebelling! How lovely! How ironic it is to see once mighty GOP autolysing itself. Chris Matthews has hardly been removed from MSNBC. He has his own show and specials regularly. I'm sure you know that.
And I know you're not making a lame attempt at a dig on Keith Olberman because he was a sports reporter in his early journalism days. Apparently that exact type of experience is a prerequisite for the VP spot in the Republican world since Palin did her own stint of the same kind in her former life. Along with being a beauty contestant. Let's not forget that valuable experience!

I don't know what she was thinking when she uttered words Joe McCarthy would be proud of. I hope her handlers educate her on what it means to be a politician in America. Her blunder may very well cost her the re-election, and rightly it should. This dingbat actually thinks that there are Anti-American Congressmen and Congresswomen? And that the media should figure out who they are?? What exact views are Anti-American? Obviously ones she disagrees with. Who decides Sean Hannity or Keith Olbermann?

It's a shame Chris Matthews has allowed himself to become so partisan. I used to respect the man, he always seemed, at least to me, to be pretty fair. I always knew he had Democratic/liberal leanings, but he hid it pretty well.
It has become increasingly apparent over the past couple of months that Tim Russert's death also has signalled the death of fairness on MSNBC. And that is the saddest thing of all. |

you should vote for McCain because at this particular time, in view of this difficult financial crisis, we need to CUT SPENDING. McCain has said he will put a one year freeze on spending to analyze what government programs are working and what programs need to be revised some. When I have a financial bump in my own life - I STOP SPENDING!! I want our government to STOP SPENDING!! FACT- we have an INTERNATIONAL financial crisis - we need a President capable to work effectively with all world leaders at this particular time - world leaders are going to be attempting to institute some changes in the way governments interact on a financial level - we need someone with a wide vision of world leaders, their intentions, and someone with the prime interest - protection of the USA in all these proposed changes.
We need a man ready to assume the position of Commander-in-Chief. McCain has the credentials, an honest and true admiration for our military and they return the respect for him.
John McCain has proven in his mind COUNTRY IS FIRST!! He has the will, determination, desire and experience to take the helm at this difficult time.
John McCain would be the balance "we the people" require with a Congress headed up by Nancy (the disgrace) Pelosi, and Harry Reid - also McCain knows the part Barney Frank and Chris Dodd played in the sub prime meltdown and I think he has the strength of conviction and desire to go after the people involved in this financial mess.

I really wish the media would scrutinze some of these Congressmmen more. If they had, we wouldn't be in this financial crisis that we now find ouselves in, and besides that, the country would be more united, because the folks would know who's disagreeming with the President based on real disagreement, and how many are just disagreeming because of Politics.

There seems to be a particularly strong strain of Anti-God Liberals here in MN and they are always in evidence in the comment sections of the Star-rag anytime they have an article concerning Bachmann. Many seem to have found their way here to townhall as well, the one thing they have in common is an inability to pay attention to the article and read it accurately.

Now I'm no Palin fan but she is a pretty woman. But Michelle Bachmann? Are you serious? She must think it too. Maybe that explains why she sports that stupid pasted on smile during t.v. interviews.
Bachmann's comments were completely out of line. Hopefully running her yip yap will cost her seat in Congress. What she said was irresponsible and totally baseless. And Chris Matthews let her yap on and on - steady digging herself into her own grave.
I'm no where near Minnesota, so obviously I don't know anything about the local Congressional race. But I sure did donate $25 to her opponents campaign. People like her have no place representing Americans in Washington. |

Everyone knows Chris Matthews is a liberal completely in the tank for Obama and all things Democrat. So we all knew this would be his line of questioning. I thought he did it well. Even when he was visibly upset with the answers he allowed (sometimes reluctantly) Ms. Bachmann to state her views completely.
I thought Ms. Bachmann did a masterful job of making her case and staying on point. She refused to be baited into sideline arguments. And she remained calm and collected regardless of how hard Matthews pressed her.
I count this one of the good interviews. I don't mind the antagonistic setting, so long as each side is allowed to state their case.

When universities like Obamas alma mater Columbia bans ROTC and invites the anti american president of Iran to speak, are they not un american? Bachmann after ranting a la Joe McCarthy now is trying to back pedal and say she was misunderstood. So now you can add Liar to Racist and Bigot. Those people who are proud you voted for her should take a deep breath and see if you can get an antidote for the Republican Koolaid you have been drinking. Her attempt to label and to suggest that somehow she has such a command of the history of free speech and the proper nature of political discourse is just embarrassing. She is, after all, supposed to have a passing understanding and more than just an ill-formed opinion on the rights of citizens and the media under our Constitution. Talk about the "dumbing down" of America when this sort of pap issues forth from a presumably well-educated, informed and experienced professional woman! She has simply energized even more of us to more clearly understand the insecure, fearful and poorly informed persons so many republican office holders seem to be. Anti-intellectuals, irrational, bigoted, ill-informed with a tremendous desire to wield "in our interest", of course, almost despotic power. Democracy to such stunted persons seems just an inconvenience, I suppose!
Don't live in Wisconsin BUT I donated to her opponent's campaign, as I believe America deserves better than the likes of her - a paltry, faded " Joe McCarthy." Just what we need - the "thought police" with the problems our nation faces!

There's not going to be a recovery. Bachmann showed herself to be the nut she is. She has done so before, on this site, no less (claiming, for instance, that we could recoup the money from the bailout by opening up more oil and gas leases--which would have raised a whopping 5% of the total bailout amount over 30 YEARS.

I used to like watching Chris Matthews until he his leg started tingling and it affected his ability to be objective. What a desperate position for him to be in - real journalist with mediocre ratings or a ranting lunatic like Olbemann the Idiot with substantially better ratings. Looks like he is trying to straddle the fence and reinvent himself a little bit. He doesn't wear the new image very well. Like an ill-fitting suit. He has sacrificed his intelligence for "gotcha shock".
Ms. Bachman, you should know better than to walk into that zoo and feed them the scraps they feast off of. The good news for you is tomorrow is another day. The attention span of the media and the public is lessening each and every day. |

I know NO ONE who appreciated Bachmann's nutty Hardball performance. NOT A SINGLE PERSON. I have more conservative friends than liberal and moderate friends and every one of them - without exception - were embarassed by her over-the-top anti-American behavior. Yes. Michelle Bachmann is anti-American for claiming that if you don't agree with her line of thinking, we need to start an investigation.
I don't think she went on the air with the goal of embarassing herself and possibly setting her defeat in motion. But I do believe that she is FAR more interested in bomb-throwing than she is in representing her district. She might want to forget about Townhall and concentrate on repairing the damage back home. The least of which is a terrible sense of entitlement. It seems you feel that if no one else is going to rise to your defence, that you'll do it, pretending to be someone else doing it for you.
This is concerning. It shows a fragile grasp on reality, which if we view your political career in total, seems to be a common thread.
Seriously Congresswoman, get some help. I know with the medical care you recieve as a member of Congress does indeed cover Mental Health, so please, seek assistance immediatly. There are medications out there that can help. |

Michele Bachman was called silly by Pat Buchanan on MSNBC today. I agree. Michele hungers for the vapors coming off Palin. Kind of sad really. They should have a contest on who is most vapid. Talk about the dumbing down of our folks in the Congress. Michele quit clowning and get to work and help Obama undo the damage of your boy Bush and the Neo Cons.
For the babies crying about the media, your boy Bush clowned not only America but the GOP. Look in the mirror. Grow up and take it like a man or woman. Clearly the woman has more problems than those she exhibited on "Countdown." It was horrifying, watching her strangle herself slowly with her own words. Matthews was masterful, drawing her out and letting her blather on. She sounded like a true lunatic.
She should stop everything and take a class in Constitutional Law. It's obvious that she has absolutely no understanding of what constitutes citizenship, the rights and privileges. She's exploited her seat in Congress to a dishonorable end. I'm sure her constituents are embarrassed by her little demonstration of how little she knows about her country and what it's made up of, what it stands for.
It would be a good thing, I think, if Mme. Bachmann were to step down and go away for a while, perhaps studying basic high school civics. Maybe then she could return to the national stage, and not come across as a blithering idiot. |
