"Southern Dem warns party to avert disaster"
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:06 AM
Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen is too late.

Two decades too late.  Once the Clintons got power in the Democratic Party, they were never going to relinquish it willingly.

Bredesen told Politico's Jonathan Martin and Mike Allen:

“They have a much steeper, rockier hill to climb if it goes to the convention,” the governor said over a dinner of rockfish and red wine. “You’re going to spend this whole summer – and lots of money and time and effort – trying to convince people that whoever isn’t eventually nominated, isn’t electable.

"That’s a heck of a hole to climb out of come the first of September,” he added. “What’s been going on for the last 90 days just gets worse and worse as the summer goes on.”

Bredesen also joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in warning that superdelegates should not overturn the outcome from primaries and caucuses.

If Obama were denied the nomination by Democratic insiders after winning the party’s popular vote, Bredesen said, “There would be hell to pay in the party for a long time to come.”

This is a message directed at Hillary, but Hillary knows she is finished if she fails to turn this around, and she also knows there is growing concern among Democratic elites that Barack Obama's got a great deal of baggage which is only dimly understood.

Check out Kithbridge.com's blog tracking of the Obama-Jeremiah Wright story.  As week three of the controversy begins, more than one out of five blog posts about Obama includes a reference to Wright.

Click over to Rezkorama.com.  All of these stories are about Obama's mentor, friend, financier and neighbor.

We have just begun to hear the audio of Senator Obama reading his two books, including many passages that are jarring to many people.

So Hillary knows it is trench warfare until one side's line breaks.  She's going to pound him in PA, and he's going to run up the score in NC.

They are both going to have a message for the superdelegates:  "He can't win" v. "You can't steal this."

And since the superdelegates not only don't have to make up their mind, they can't make up their mind until the first ballot, no one will quit.  What if Rezko gives an interview the night before the first ballot?  If Hillary hasn't been there fighting all the way, someone else --did you say Al Gore-- will step forward.

The only way to be in a position to win is to stay in the game.  Hillary is many things, but she's not a quitter.

That Clean, Spiritual Sage, Dickie..
Morris says that Hillary's Toast. Gawd, I always feel the urge to bathe after seeing his leering mug on the screen.

BUT, the Clinton's obviously don't see themselves in the Defeat Column, by any means, sooooooo... What does this tell us? IF the sleazebags are confident enough to keep trudging, then they've got more DIRT in their pockets re-Obama...OR, some other very insider knowledge that gives them confidence. C'mon, Y'all...REGURGITATE'68!!

Civil War is GOOOOOOD. I well remember my shock and hurt when McGovern was completely clobbered in '72. I was a 'yoot and hadn't looked at the realities. Kind of how the Bazama forces are gonna feel in November...or, if Billy & Hilly get their wish, after Denver.

If you think Obama is finished....
....you need to look at the latest WSJ poll:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120657171729866843.html?mod =politics_primary_hs

First two paragraphs:

"The racially charged debate over Barack Obama's relationship with his longtime pastor hasn't much changed his close contest against Hillary Clinton, or hurt him against Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who conducts the Journal/NBC polls with Republican pollster Bill McInturff, called the latest poll a "myth-buster" that showed the pastor controversy is "not the beginning of the end for the Obama campaign."

The WSJ poll results confirm the results of the Gallup Daily tracking poll, which shows Obama one point ahead of Hillary and both of them two points behind McCain- all within the margin of error:

How will your ideals be advanced by a dimocrat victory?

They are on the ropes and we have McCain to make the best of. It is not so much sipping Koolaid as it is smelling the coffee.

Way more than 6% of GOP voters want our "presumed nominee" to drop out.

I'm not voting for amnesty, McCain had better rethink that one if he wants to get elected.

Obama-Romney 2008

Liberal Mitt Romney might add a few percentage points to Obama's 30-odd percent in a general, what with the obligatory 95% identity vote, but he'd be nothing but a downward pull on McCain's numbers.

McCain doesn't need the loony fringe.

That Rev. Wright has never been interviewed before. Clearly that's the implication, because ALL reporters are duplicitous. They all want to be the next Woodward & Bernstein.

It sure is nice to see the left eating their own, however.

DEMS WILL GET CRUSHED
With McCain having a big lead among independents, and at least one fifth of the Democrat Party refusing to support the candidate they're not for in the Primary, the Republicans are headed for a landslide win. The SuperDelegates will ensure that this fight will go to the convention. In a poll that just came out, 6% of Democrats want both of their candidates to drop out. With three more months of internecine warfare to go, the nomination won't be worth having, and McCain will waltz into the White House.
Fred writes: Wednesday, March, 26, 2008 2:51 PM
Swaying Superdelegates
What sways superdelegates is promises. And Hillary will out-promise everyone. Every delegate will be given a place in her administration or a new army base in their district. Does anyone believe that Obama can out-promise Hillary?
Sammy writes: Wednesday, March, 26, 2008 2:06 PM
Hillary's Calculation
I think one part of Hillary's calculation at this low point might be this...

If I can't win the nomination, then I damn sure well want to make sure that Obama doesn't win the Presidency. Why? Because if Obama wins then she basically can't run again for 8 years, and then she would be tied to all the baggage of her party having been in charge for the last 8 years.

If McCain wins then she can run in 4 years as the probable front runner once again and the one that can say, "I told you Obama was not ready for prime time". She'd also be able to play the change theme with Republicans having run the white house for the last 12 years.

So even though she knows her path to the nomination at this point is very difficult, she realizes that her best interest is to muck things up as much as she can for her Democratic opponent -- it's simply in her best long-term interest.
KGK writes: Wednesday, March, 26, 2008 1:09 PM
The Dem predicament
I chortle about the Dem predicament especially after I saw the new Ras. Poll on 22% of Dems on each side wanting that candidate to drop out. And the poll which shows nearly 25 % of Dems supporting ole John if their, whether Obama or Hil, doesn't get the nomination. McCain needs to keep on message about terror and the economy without sounding like a Democrat!!!
S/A86 writes: Wednesday, March, 26, 2008 11:46 AM
You guys remember
the film "Gladiator?"

Great scene close to the end when Commodus punches a hole in Maximus' heart with some sort of bodkin. Maximus defeats Commodus, but dies in so doing.

HRC may have her sights on 2012. If she cannot muscle a nomination, she has so let the air out of babakazama that he cannot survive the general election. HRC can then run in 2012.

Either way, this really is a thing of beauty....the Denver Death March. Yee ha!

The Media Hurt The Dems
The Dems think its fine to run on their radical platforms and voting records because, until this melee broke out, the media (who are as radical as they are) never asked a serious question of any Democrat. Now, all of a sudden because of this brawl, Obama's essential radicalism and the profound lack of personal integrity of HRC have been splashed into the national consciousness, making a bland mediocrity like McCain the frontrunner just because of the appalling nature of his opponents. Hilly and Barry are coming close to making each other unelectable. The media is being dragged, almost against their will, into the fight. When Hilly wont help Katie plump her comatose ratings by agreeing to a CBS debate the tape of a happy, sunny reception in sniper-free Bosnia surfaces as if by magic! Oy Vey!
thrustandparry.com writes: Wednesday, March, 26, 2008 11:18 AM
How hard it is to play by the rules!
Is not one of the purposes of a convention to have a second, third, etc., votes if one candidate doesn't have enough delegates? Surely, if one candidate doesn't have enough delegates then it is at least possible the candidate with the highest amount going into the convention can lose due to considerations by the delegates and super-delegates.

If Democrats don't like it they can simply change the rules for 2012 so that the person with the most delegates going into the convention wins. Or, maybe they could make some states winner take all like it is for the general election.

Both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama have equal electability problems. It might be the wisdom of the delegates to go with the top delegate count (Obama) so as not to cripple the party and the candidate further.

had best be careful about getting in the Clinton Machine's way. He may be greeted by sniper fire vs. a welcoming ceremony as he lands at the office in the morning! It will take no prisoners. I was listening to Bubba jump the case of a MTV "reporterette" on Rushbo yesterday. Bubba's getting crankier by the day. MTV plays to an audience that won't respond well to a cranky ole furt, so Hilliray best not expect an invitation soon after Bub got through with them. Watch the Clinton Machine get nastier and nastier as her POTUS dream slips further away.

Obama's first book
I just finished reading Obama's book Dreams from My Father and it was definitely disturbing. I can not believe that anyone outside of these 'black theology' churches could read this book and still support him. I would also be willing to bet that most of his initial support would have not existed had any of his followers taken the time to read this illuminating book. I believe Clinton has a pretty good case based on this alone - he was not vetted.
