Chambliss Rolls In Georgia
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 11:58 PM
Senator Saxby Chambliss cruised to a decisive win in the Georgia run-off, and GOP activists are smiling across the country.  Not only is a theoretical filibuster safe, but this is evidence that the Obama coattails are short indeed.  If the GOP gets its house in order, there's every reason to expect 2010 and 2012 to be very good years for the Republicans as the "change" mantra runs its course and voters begin to recollect that the Democrats took over the Congress in January of 2007 --before the economy cratered.

"the Obama coattails are short indeed"
The Obama coattails are the reason there was a runoff election at all. This is GEORGIA, for gosh sakes; the Deep South. McCain won Georgia handily, and with about twice as much turnout as the runoff.

Filibusters are still unlikely to be a problem: too many moderate Republicans, mavericks, etc. And further Democratic pickups are likely in 2010, with many more GOP senate seats up for reelection and in jeopardy.

Sharpen up
The Republicans are going to have to sharpen up to rouse the conservative base and make a valid case to the broader American public. This should not be difficult ... but never underestimate the abilities of the Republicans to shoot themselves in the foot.

The Repubs need to recognize that the Dems play the game like a war -- they play to win, anything goes. Repubs need to go to school on Saul Alinsky methodology and effectively counter it -- now the Obama is the boss, this methodology is going to be even more prevalent. Strap it on, grow a pair, get mad, get mean.

Obama Happy Too
I think the reason Obama was a no-show is because he didn't want a filibuster-proof majority.

Why? He needs Republican filibusters as scapegoat for failed attempts to push through card check, the fairness doctrine, etc. The liberal base wants this legislation passed, but Obama knows it would kill his chances at re-election. Now he has a convenient scapegoat: "I tried, but the Republicans blocked the damned thing...!"

I'd almost rather let him have the 60 seats so he is forced to hang himself.

"... but this is evidence...
...that the Obama coattails are short indeed." - No, crap like this is why nobody can ever take you seriously. The incumbant republican had to win a runoff election in Georgia. That's right, Georgia. You need to put down the pipe. Republicans had their heads handed to them this year, courtesy prez-elect Obama. I'm still stunned over North Carolina. The only thing that would make this more perfect is if Jesse Helms was alive to see this.

Should we also expect the Ohio State Buckeyes to beat USC to win National Championships in football & basketball, as well as the Cleveland Browns winning three Superbowls and Indians the world series?

Hugh, thanks for starting my day with a big, hearty laugh....you crack me up.

This win is just like Coverdale in 1992. This was the first race of 2010. 2010 should be a huge year for Republicans much like 1994. With Obama set to let the Bush tax cuts expire in 2011, Republicans will make huge congressional gains and should pick up several senate seats.

19 Republicans and 16 Democratic seats are up in 2010. Of the 19 Republican seats, the most vulnerable is Voinovich's of Ohio. The other 18 seats are in very red states not likely but not impossible they could go to dems. Conversely, dems will be defending 16 seats in marginally red to light blue states with at least four seats in trouble. Lincoln-AR, Salazar-CO, Dorgan-ND and Reid NV will have battles. Of these I see Lincoln & Reid as the most vulnerable. There is especially no love for Harry Reid in Nevada and even though he is the dem Majority Leader, comments like 'smelly tourists' reinforce with the voters the arrogance of this man.

Obama Is A Liar!!!
The left says Obama is brilliant, but it will never change the fact that he is a LIAR.

Obama ran his campaign on a platform of a tax cut for 95% of the people and bringing home the troops soon. He has already revoked both plans before even taking office. No Ivy League rubber stamp can change that.

Obama is a LIAR. He lied to the people just to get elected. Just like Clinton.

That being said, he would have to be an idiot to follow through on his lunatic, left-wing promises anyway. It is better for America if his outrageous promises are left unfulfilled. Including Universal Healtcare.

Thank goodness the Dems didn't get the Magic 60!!!

Conservatism
Conservatism did not lose the 2008 election, even as we (the US) elected the most liberal senator as president. The clever deceiver convinced many who only barely paid attention that his policies would be more conservative than would McCains! That's amazing, but the Rassmussen post-election polling shows that was the motivation for about 60% of Obama voters.

We must expand new media, where more people will read and hear and see actual facts, bypassing the editorial sludge present in every mainstream "news" report.
Homer writes: Wednesday, December, 03, 2008 9:43 AM
Obama was just exercising his calm,
'in charge' persona as required by the script in the fictional Office of the President-Elect. He knew his man in Georgia was going to lose anyway so he stayed away to avoid sullying his unbeaten streak. Instead, he dispatched Algore and Bill, a couple of lame 'possums, to stir things up. Meanwhile, the Carpetbagger is still mining for votes up north.

Bob Munck is in denial
He fails ro realize that the party in power traditionally loses seats in the mid-term elections. The Republicans bucked that trend in 2002 by adding seats in both Houses of Congress but that was the exception to the rule. I look for the Republicans to do very well in 2010 if they can get back to their small-government, low-taxes values.

Obambi loses Georgia Senate seat..
Mitch can now stop, domestic socialism, not that obambi would have time anyway. Islamists will make sure he does not have time for the lesbo, homo radical agenda, the global warming hoax, or the "alternative fuel" fairytale, instead they will be testing and probing, bombing and murdering. In other words, no time for fantasies, theories, or flights of fancy. He and the left will be forced to see the world as it is, and with his national security picks, and having seen the intelligence, he most certainly has seen the light. The world is a damn dangerous place, and it seems old, "W", wasn't so bad after all, hey obambi! Those permanent bases in Iraq will stay, too, much to the chagrin of the American left. He is already hearing from them, too. But, isn't that what ya' get when you elect someone who has NO track record?

"Mikey, Mikey, Mikey",
looks like you need to be taken to the woodshed, the woodshed of truth. Listen up, "Mikey" boy. I will be using as my "belt", two Rasmussen surveys, one taken on Oct.2, and the other right after the election. On Oct.2, the survey found that 59% of the respondents AGREED with the sentiment expressed by RONALDUS MAXIMUS, now listen up "Mikey" boy, what was his sentiment, well, that "government is not the solution; government is the problem". That's not really a "leftists" sentiment is it ,"Mikey", and just 28% disagreed! That survey also found, now i want you to pay particular attention to this, "Mikey" boy, is that it found that 44% of obambi voters agreed with RONALDUS MAXIMUS, and 40% did not. That's right, "Mikey" boy, by a margin of 44% to 40%, obambi voters agree with RONALDUS!! Shazzam, "Mikey" boy, but that's not all. 43% of voters viewed it as a positive to describe a candidate as being like RONALDUS MAXIMIUS, while just 26% consider it a negative!! But that's not all, "mikey" boy, no no, seems obambi used RONALDUS MAXIMUS'S electoral strategy of taking one or two big ideas and repeat them until the people identify you with those ideas. Obambi took the idea of cutting everyone's taxes(even those who don't pay any) and rode that pony all the way to the oval office!!! "Cutting taxes", not really something the left likes to do, right, "Mikey" boy.

So "Mikey", your boy obambi won by being perceived by the voters as being more like RONALDUS MAXIMUS, than was McCain. SHAZZAM..the horror of it all....and Mikey, thinks we had it "handed" to us, silly boy!! The gigs on you, "Mikey", and with these appointments, that he's made, well "Mikey", you simply must be pulling your hair out!! Who handed what to who!! HAHAHAHA!

Does ANY American out there give a damnn about this?? When will you GOP nutters
get it? You lost, huge, nationwide. You lost states even the weak GWB won in 2004. Obama didn't go to Georgia because he's got Snowe and Collins to fill the last 2 slots to kill filibusters, if not McCain. McCain is so sick of the far right of his party that he'll be back with his immigration reform bill asap.

When will you realize that Barack Obama is not like the candidates you folks are apparently used to? Not even Rove could figure him out, and I can assure you that Newt isn't fighting to be head of GOP because he sees the handwriting on the wall for the party for at least the next two election cycles. Maybe by 2014 things will improve, but the American people are so happy to be rid of Bush, et al, that glow won't wear off for a long time.

Obama will neutralize the far right and far left, he'll govern to the center because the center is now on the left. Even insurance companies know that health care needs to be reformed, etc.

So, Chambliss won the re-election he was supposed to win, in a state that doesn't go Dem. And that's a sign that Obama's coattails are not long? Sheesh, if Obama had just done a few campaign stops, Martin would have won. But Obama had this thing called getting ready to govern and lead to do, something the GOP doesn't really care about.

The reasons why Obama didn't bother to campaign for Martin against Chambliss are:

1. As "Virginia Patriot" suggested, Obama can break a Senate filibuster already, by putting together a working coalition of 57 Democrats, 1 socialist (Sanders), and at least 2 moderate Republicans. (Have Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe ever filibustered any Democratic proposals?)

2. Right now, Obama is trying to look inclusive and even bipartisan--witness his appointments of General Jones and Gates. That's why his approval ratings are so high right now. Why expand any of that political capital for just one Senate seat that he doesn't need that badly anyway.

BTW, the latest Gallup poll shows that now, even a majority of *Republicans* think Obama has done a good job so far.

Yep====Harry was chastising the tourists who pervade the capitol and other fed buildings. Well, actually he was complaining about their BO. He and his leadership have taken care of the problem, though. So, let's no hear any more about their weaknesses. Old Harry has seen to it that a whole new air conditioning system has been installed in his building so as to irradicate the foul smelling touristas. And it only cost the tourists, er, taxpayers $621,000,000.00 to get the nasty job done.

It looks like Coleman will emerge unscathed from the recount process. He just gained more than 40 votes, widening his lead, and most of the counties left to go are ones he carried on election night. Chambliss just won in a landslide. Obama is showing signs of governing like a Republican, and, like Clinton before him, was smart enough to put the military in the hands of a Republican. Yeah, that's some significant post you just penned.

You claim to be, "principled", yet you also revealed you mission in posting here is ot "demoralize the oppossition". Hardly principled---unless you belong to the dumbocrat party.

You claim to be a, "99 lb. weakling" to other's tough talkin' abuse. Yeah, right. You only know one style. See paragraph above. Hardly the profile of a poor, little waifish dweeb.

And your incredibly adolescent rant stating that I "stole" your, invectives from you, essentially turning them around and flinging them back at you is beyond laughable----yet, so indicative of your pathologic narcissism.

Yep, you're just, "scaling back". Pathetic.

Get a life, lightweight. You are an embarrassment to your family.

In what way is yours any better?

Munckey-boy
If yours was even remotely genuine, I'd answer your ridiculous comment.

"If yours was even remotely genuine,"

"Genuine?" You think my post was a fake somehow? In what sense?

Patriot Liberal
Liberals caused the problem in housing and republicans did not fight hard enough against the bubble caused by liberals because it seemed to benefit them in the short term. It is impossible to argue against this fact.

This problem started in 1977 under the CRA. Bruce Marks and NACA sued under CRA around 1993 to force BOA to lend 3billion dollars to those who should never have gotten mortgages. Under the Clinton Administration, Freddie and Fannie grew into a socially engineered hedge fund. As weak and pathetic as the republicans were, they tried to stop it from happening.

Also, Wall Street gave FAR more to democrats than republicans over the past 8 years. This is a fact. To be fair, the republicans did not throw down the guantlet and fight hard enough. Bush started touting home ownership as a "success" of his economic program, when in fact the rise in home ownership had nothing to do with him. The rise in home ownership was a false inflationary bubble that naturally had to burst. Amazingly, the republicans are so weak that they allowed this anchor to be hung around their neck.

I am no neocon and I am not a republican. The republican party is not going to make a big comeback in 2010. They are in disarray. I do agree that 60's style neoconservative governing is dead in the water. Who knows what will replace it, but the deomocrats are just as bankrupt.
