Discrimination Based On Pigmentation, Not History

The New York Times recently reported on Barack Obama’s long-standing support for affirmative action that gives preferential treatment to members of disadvantaged minorities. While still a student at Harvard Law School , Obama readily admitted that “I undoubtedly benefited from affirmative action,” but the deeper question is how he could justify that advantage. Apologists for preferences explain these policies as a remedy for long family histories of discrimination, but Obama’s background features no such legacy of oppression. His mother was white and his father’s family, in Kenya , had never been enslaved or subjected to American “Jim Crow” laws or segregation. Both parents earned graduate degrees, so his only basis for preferential treatment would have been skin color, not family disadvantage. That’s typical of affirmative action, which treats people differently based on pigmentation alone, not their origins or experiences.

Sounds like agreement to me: Affirmative Action (you shouldn't call it by the same initials as Alcoholics Anonymous -- although the people that thought it up are probably members) is bad all-around. Issue solved; get rid of it! |

I was young when John Kennedy ran for president. However, I like the rest of the world, was made keenly aware of the Irish pride at his candidacy. I live in Chicago; one of the biggest Irish Catholic political power centers in America -the Richard Daley Irish/Catholic Stronghold. No Irish Catholic Kennedy supporter even tried to hide the fact that they were elated at the possibility of a Catholic/an Irish Catholic becoming the president of the USA. Kennedy got 80% of the Catholic vote when he won the election. Daley "delivered" Cook County to Kennedy. Barack Obama's candidacy for African Americans is a mirror reflection of the pride Catholics had at Kennedy's run for the office. Yet, Catholics like Pat Buchanan, Shawn Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly(and others like you) can't let stand African American cultural pride that is being expressed, in the same manner the nation and the news media allowed Catholic pride to be expressed, without insidious comments about "balkanization" and "color politics". African Americans comes from a culture, not a color. The color comes along with the culture. African Americans have fought and died in every war for this nation's freedom - from the indian wars, right up to the war we are presently fighting. For centuries black people have endured the worst kinds on insults and injuries at the hands of American citizens and our governments. Yet our people endured and fought for a better days. Now that day is here, and those like you, instead of celebrating the growth of the American experience, you assault and insult a people who only want to grow and continue to contribute to the American dream. |

But of course Race trumps Gender, as far as Hillary goes. Its obvious that she would have won the Afro American "votes" if Obama was WHITE! Blacks liked Hill & Bill because they were good to them but they abandoned the faithful Clintons to promote their OWN! A 92% vote average, mostly because of prideful ambition, not for the best, strongest candidate, Shameful! Ex Democrat |

Whenever whites approach the issue of Affirmative Action they seem to all come down with collective amnesia. They only refer to AA as a negative with regard to black people, and consciously choose to dismiss the fact that white women hijacked AA, used it to gain almost parity with white men, and now pretend that they never benefited from it in the first place. White men, almost always exclude white women from their discussions when voicing their opinions about AA. It seems, in their minds, that AA is only bad for black people. When the truth is, white men have benefited from AA, even more than African Americans. They have benefited because they are married to, mothered by, and relatives of white women who have riden the AA corporate and political gravy train to economic success. Do white men really want their working white wives to stop benefiting from a measure that was intially designed to rectify centuries of government mandated discrimination against African Americans and native Americans? I think not. So they pretend white women are not germaine to the issue -- and by extension, their own enrichment from AA does not exist. |

Why should Obama "justify" receiving special treatment? Why would it occur to him. As the effette spoiled child of bourgiousie grandparents everything was always handed to him for one reason and only one reason. He is Obama! The fancy clothes, the private schools, the cars, the Ivy colleges. Did Guatama wonder at his existance in the gardens of pleasure as a young prince. All was as it should be. No whim ever festered into desire before it was smothered with its own satisfaction. Unlike that ancient one, however, Obama arranged his tour to Chicago. He had an appointment with the aged, sick woman and so the was no unpleasant shock. A fluffy pillow awaited his buttocks under a plastic Bodhi tree and his awaking was to an aerosol of sweetly scented mist. He breath contains the name of all names that is its own meaning. Obama. Obama. Obama..... |

Annette,
My favorite Bushism was the secret microphone conversation between Pres Bush and PM Blair.
Pres Bush said, "...this sh--'s gonna stop. I'm gonna send HER over there..." All of this referring to some usual garbage in the Middle East, while "HER" refers to Condi Rice. Now that is affermative, but it istn't "affermative action!"
Have not seen you here before, and did not check your reference. I do not think you need to make any reference to your race, because it simply does not matter. Period.
Besides, saying you are white is really a ~!!big nothing!!~. Do you have Russian ancestory? Perhaps you come from Portugal, or even Spain? Are you French, or English--are you Jewish or Scottish? These are not exactly a homogenous group of people! So if they hand you a form that says, check "white," and has a million specific hyphenated thingies for everyone else, put "other" and tell them to shove it right up to the top of their little genetic make-up chart. |

The real problem is that so-called minorities are encouraged to view themselves as victims regardless of their upbringing and background. It's all about the color of their skin. If that is the case, then how did Condi rise so far? Was Bush using affirmative action?
And btw, I live in California and I'm white. I believe I am now a minority because of the color of my skin, so may I now run around proclaiming my victim status?
Will white soon be the new black?

I'M honored that you actually typed "c-rag". Medved has responded directly to two or three of my posts. It appears that he has chosen not to do that anymore. I doubt that he is directly involved in his own blog beyond posting his columns. |

POTUS OBAMA has nominated the Rapper Nelly to deliver the "new" Presidential theme song.

I suppose that's possible. I thought that for a flagged comment to be deleted it required more than one flagger, but I could be wrong.
Really, the whole purpose of my thread by thread complaints was to get MM to post a comment. I have (lame) hobby of tryin to get him (or any of the TH "biggies") to post comments w/in their threads. It's only worked once (and to his credit, it was MM).
Now, if it was C-rag that flagged it, I consider that a HUGE compliment. |
|
|
I suggest you post that deleted comment in your blog. I'll give you my two cents on why it disappeared. Off the top of my head I'd guess that Kimberly her own self flagged it as 'offensive' several times; think of it as a preview of the Fairness Doctrine. |
|
|
How are you going to spin this one, Kimberly? Are you going to claim the Rev. Wright 'apples & rocks' analogy? that Obama was disadvantaged because his K-12 teachers didn't know how to teach a black brain? Stupid bim! |
|
I'll forgive ya..this once.
Especially since you didn't take the bait. |
|
Michael had a guest on his radio show recently who explained that "black" and "white" was really just, ah, ahem, "figurative" for "oppressed" and "oppressors." That is why Condi Rice, Justice Thomas, Alberto Gonzalez, and others are not really the browns anymore. And goody white wiberals are not really white!
This is just a bunch of Marxist mumbo jumbo. It's a recast of regular old class envy and warfare, without which there can be no Marxist takeover of private property.

"...affirmative action that gives preferential treatment to members of disadvantaged minorities."
Michael, it appears your statement is incorrect. It is all people of a minority that are entitled preferential treatment - not just the disadvantaged in the group.
Wouldn't Michael Jordan's children be entitled to racial preference from Harvard as part of a "disadvantaged" group?
Or is the term "disadvantaged minorities" assumed to be a redundant phrase? |
|
|
No sweat Joe. Just don't make fun of Kimberly or your comment vanishes at the MM blog. |

Being born of a white mother, black father, and raised by "typical" white grandparents - Obama has ALWAYS had the choice of declaring ethnicity: White or Black.
Interesting he never embraced his caucasion-ness even though his mother was white and white grandparents raised him because his father abandoned him (mother died).
He, instead, embraced his African heritage, used the advantages afforded African Americans, joined a church embracing Black Liberation Theology, and now, uses the race-card quite liberally for his own political advantage.
Seems the person capitalizing on race is Barack Obama.
Is THIS the type of person we want leading our country? A Racial Opportunist? |
|
|
is the "Holy Grail" of self loathing, guilt ridden, white apologist, sanctimonius, leftist commies. |
|
'Obama readily admitted that “I undoubtedly benefited from affirmative action,"'
Does he really have that low of confidence in his natural abilities that he thinks he wouldn't have gotten anywhere based solely on them?
Blacks should find affirmative action insulting. What is not racist about "You're too pathetic to make it on your own so we'll make sure you're given special benefits." |
