Thune Smacks MN Secretary of State
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 4:49 PM

I just got off the phone with Sen. John Thune, who's become one of the GOP point-men on the Minnesota Senate recount due to his experience with his own very close Senate loss in 2002.

One of the first things he said to me was that Norm Coleman was up against a "very partisan Democrat Secretary or State" in Mark Ritchie. He also said that the Dems are "clearly going to do everything they can" to make Al Franken a Senator (despite the fact that he lost).

Ironically, before the interview ended, Amanda posted the headline "MN Secretary of State Bashes Coleman"…so I asked Sen. Thune about Mr. Ritchie's comments that Coleman is trying to "win at any price".  He rather indignantly answered the question with another question, "Who started out on top?"

We should definitely be keeping a very close eye on Mr. Ritchie.

seriously?
until mid next week the actual election results aren't even in so to declare "(despite the fact that he lost)" is remarkably misinformed and infantile.

They are currently separated by about 200 votes or .007%

let me say that again .007%

state law calls for an automatic recount if the results are closer than .5%

to suggest that a machine counted election with a resulting difference of .007% has been decided is borderline insanity and you should be ashamed for having written it.

I have faith that the recount will proceed fairly and effectively and to brew mistrust in the system without cause is irresponsible on your part.

Contrast this...
With the defense at the time of Florida Sec of State Katherine Harris publicly asserting her expectation that she would be a member of a future Bush team in 2000.

What hypocrites.

Ginger....
didn't you mean all those Democratic votes "found in Democratic employees' cars", or "found under Dems' desks", etc????
This stinks worse than 5 day old fish!!!

The contested precinct in Florida was run by Democrats, the ballot was made by Democrats and the votes were counted by Democrats. The recounts were made by all kinds of groups that showed that Bush won. Get over 2000 already.

Ginger: are you for fair elections or just election results that you approve of your pitiful, lifeless troll.

Ah... Democracy...
(despite the fact that he lost)

Well, that will probably be up to the recount or more likely, up to the many, many lawyers and judges to decide, won't it?

God bless democracy. :P

Democracy: system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

This does not include Illegal Elections, Stolen Elections, Coups.

There is no such word Democracy with this election!

As far from Democracy as a government can get.

Blue Dog Dems, now they knew what an election, Democracy and Serve and Protect the People mean.

That idea went away when Kennedy Died.

Now, the Conservatives know what a Democracy is and practice it!

Irony: Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does, and what one means or what is generally understood.

e.g. God bless Democracy where losers can sue and have elections decided by a small panel of judges (because apparently, even after the 2000 Florida debacle, in the 21st century, the task of putting together a voting system that does not involve ballots hidden in car trunks, somehow eludes parts of these United States.)

Is that like the lady who found the ballots in her car after she found out the goof Franken was losing?
Democracy?

Questions . . . TO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER
I heard that there have been many ballots where Obama was voted for at the top of the ticket and Norm Coleman for Senator.

There is also word that there were many ballots where Obama was voted for at the top and then no vote was made for Senator. Upon seeing this, many dems in the precincts said that the person must have meant to vote for Franken.

Can they do this? I heard that this is actually going on. Is this true?

If it is, how can Norm Coleman win in a dem state?
Dread writes: Wednesday, November, 12, 2008 8:21 PM
Ugh...
Yes, LLR, I was being ironic and contrasting 'democracy' with the idea that, in all likelihood, eight years after Bush v. Gore, we're going to get another national election decided by judges and lawyers because some state hacks can't get their acts together.

Frankly, I don't give a darn who wins at this point. I just have this dream where the country that has made and innovated the greatest technological achievements in the past 60 years can somehow figure out a way to run an election that doesn't rely on 19th century techniques.
