Grandson's Birth Prompts Warning on Teen Pregnancy from Palin
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 10:03 PM
Governor Sarah Palin publicly welcomed her new grandson, Tripp, with some words of warning and hope about teen pregnancy.

"The road ahead for this young couple will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair," Palin said in a statement posted on her official website. "Isn’t it just like God to turn those circumstances into such an amazing, joyful blessing when you ask Him to help you through?”

Bristol Palin was quoted as well. "Teenagers need to prevent pregnancy to begin with – this isn’t ideal. But I’m fortunate to have a supportive family which is dealing with this together," she said. "Tripp is so perfectly precious; we love him with all our hearts. I can’t imagine life without him now.”

Bristol, 18, will complete her final high school credit needed for graduation this week.

Nice headline, Amanda
Must you turn this into a negative story? Why can't you just be joyful that a healthy baby has been born?
aurorawatcher writes: Saturday, January, 03, 2009 11:23 PM
Handled well
The fact is that a healthy baby born to a teenage couple remains a tragedy for the couple, the grandparents and the child himself.

Children should not raise children!

Too often in our culture we congratulate the teenage girl for getting herself knocked up and we let her keep the baby, making the grandparents responsible for the care of both children. This is not a healthy thing. The best teenage mother in the world should not raise a baby -- she's not equipped. Even if the father helps. It falls to the grandparents and that is rarely ideal unless you have very young grandparents like the Palins who will likely be around when the child is older.

It's good that the Palins are able to acknowledge that Bristol made a mistake and that she and Levi will pay for it for the rest of their young lives. Better that baby Tripp had been surrendered for adoption so that mature adults who really wanted a baby could have raised him. I do understand Bristol's love for her baby, but I think this would have been a much wiser choice, a good choice for all who are otherwise affected by this birth.

Still, her recognition that she and Levi made a mistake speaks well for the future of this way-too-young family.

Now you did it!
Everytime Palin's name is in play the nuts come out.If both she and her daughter would have just gotten abortions the left would have championed them.Something about that personal responsibility thing really ticks off the left.

lola - be careful when you insult others
Your glee at the pregnancy of a teenager make you a pathetic adult whose life must be filled with misery beyond description. The teenage daughter of Palin did not choose to be born into a political life. She happens to have a governor for a mother and her privacy is compromised as a result. It's one thing to insult Palin, the candidate who chose to run for office, it's another to insult a teenager and her new born child.
You are wrong, true conservatives would not insult a pregnant teenager, even if that teenager was Obama's daughter. Obama himself offered good advise 'this is a family matter, my mother was a teenager, and we should let them sort this out in private'. Perhaps you should show some respect as well.
So far, nobody has insulted Obama for being born by a teenage mother and being abadoned by his african dad. We find this family challenge to be a sad thing - even if the person experiencing it is a political opponent.
I hope when you face challenges in your life, others will treat you with some respect. Even though you are not doing the same.
wanjiru writes: Sunday, January, 04, 2009 2:36 AM
aurorawatcher - 18 is an adult
Hasn't life changed. One generation ago, an 18 year old was considered adult enough to marry and have children. My sister married at 18 and had her first child at 19. It's not ideal if the parents are not interested in parenting but if the two are interested in parenting then they will do so as the adults in previous generations did. Again, at 18 men and women go to war, so they can choose to raise a child if they so please. It may not be ideal for them but an 18 year old is hardly a child,she is a young adult. She could have enrolled to go to Iraq and that would have been equally challenging.

its about time
Sarah Palin waited TOO LONG to issue this statement. You cannot champion abstinence policy-fail the program horribly and then expect to retain your credibility without admission of mistake because it was Piper's mistake to get preganant. She did not plan this and she is lucky to have such a family who rally around her for support. Women who do not have this kind of support are the kinds who may or may not get abortions. Good for Palin for showing that even though her daught COMPEETLY FAILED THE IDEOLOGY the notion of christain forgiveness and redemption is there-note that you cannot be redeemed without admission of mistake.

Now why Amanda made the headline so negative is that social conservatives have become so hypocritical and combatative that they feel Palin has erred by her admission. Sad but so true. Amanda and her ilk didn't want Palin to say ANYTHING b ut rather just smile and deny.
Palin has stepped past them and done the right thing-hopefully many more in the GOP will come forward and do similar things for other errors.

The bottom line is social conservatives rfuse to see past their own dogma and instead of criticing and obviously INEFFECTIVE ABSTINENCE PROGRAM they want to whine about abortions instead. Its called projection people. You social conserbvatives need to pull your faces out of your bibles and join the rest of us REPUBLICANS in the real world.

poor jan
your Obama derangement sysndrome is showing.

I don't recall this article being about him but as the bitter end of the GOP never forgives or forgets its best that perhaps you like so many other should go find anothe party.

Try to stop acting like a child.

I've reviewed a LOT of birth records
while doing investigations, recruiting, reviewing service records, interviewing folks for positions, etc. I'm here to tell you that there are one hell of a lot of "premature births" in this country! Lots of births seem to occur around the sixth and seventh month . . .

Also, there are a significant number of folks who learn that their "father" is not the man listed on their birth certificate. I've had mothers crying in my office because their child was about to learn he/she had a different father than the man who raised him. My answer to these women was I wasn't going to mention it, but they sure had better tell him/her, rather than it being such a shock when the person learned it on their own.

I, personally, think this has been going on since not too long after Day One. I am, therefore, not going to cast stones at any woman who zigs when she should have zagged. "Stuff" happens.

Why is Bristol so much worse than
hundreds of thousands of other teenagers who get themselves pregnant by "THE MAN THEY LOVE?"

Sex is happening every second around the world and the participationg couples performing it are not all married to each other.

I have to wonder how many people who have condemned poor Bristol Palin for having sex with her boyfriend actually waited for marriage to have sex themselves.

I didn't wait myself, but I married the man and I had my first child just before turning 17. I had my second at 19, my third at 21, and my fourth at 25. They are all well adjusted and happy individuals with families of their own and my wonderful husband and I will celebrate our 49th anniversary in February.

I'm sure glad 2/3 of the world didn't see fit to condemn me for the unthinkable, hideous act of having sex with the man I love before I married him.

Some of you holier than thou people who are so quick to judge really should not throw stones if you live in a glass house. No one is perfect, and although it would be preferrable for young people not to have sex before marriage, it is a fact of life, had been done since the beginning of time.

It is unfortunate for the young ones to have children out of wedlock, but it is not the end of the world, and Bristol Palin was not the first, not will she be the last; and she should not have to pay for that mistake for the rest of her life due to the judgment of those who are no better and do not have the right to act as if they are.

LOLOLOLL
Ziping up the Levi? This is a real hoot. Perhaps teaching your kid that sleeping around produces babies might be a GOOD thing. Oh, and while she's at it? She might also say "I did the same thing. I guess this is a pattern in my family I refuse to break with EDUCATION. "

Bristol, by her parents own admittence, said she was dating the same guy since age FOURTEEN. Now, any kid allowed to date at an age when she sould be a kid, and having babies when she herself is a child, is just asking for problems. I guess true morality is for eveyone else. Walk the walk you talk, madame Palin. Walk it, and you may not be the grandma ma to an illegitmate grandson.

Hey gay whitey!
I was spending time with my Not knocked up children. I also do not have an illegitmate grandson, making goo goo eyes and ignoring the elephant in the room.

So, exaclty when is that wedding? I seriously doubt it will REALLY happen. I'm not casting stones. Just stating facts. I gues in her faith, you turn around three times and it all 'grows back'.

Palin: Been there, done that?

Palin states: "When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why was Palin shocked to hear this news? Didn't she say: Been there, done that!
And letting her child date at such a young age and to a self-proclaimed bada** as Levi, what did she expect???!!! This woman continues to show she has NOT the judgment to be in high office!
We would not have heard a word about this from Sarah but she is trying to do damage control in hopes that her lust for higher political power come true.
that about Barry so she say you're making it up. She seems to think that she is the most virtuous and perfect species on the planet, but I can't help but wonder why she never had any children of her own and is 51 years old with a house full of kids she no doubt gets a big fat check from the government for taking in. Perfect? I don't think so!!
Palin-Business
Now Listen up. Sarah Palin's family which includes herself, husband, and children-DOES NOT-DOES NOT-HEAR ME LOUD AND CLEAR-DOES NOT-HAVE TO REPORT TO ANY OF YOU --CAN'T FIND NOTHING TO DO EXCEPT STIR SH-- AND TRY TO STIR UP SOME SOAP OPERA AND BAR ROOM GOSSIP PEOPLE---what they do in or with their lives. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NONE OF ANYONES BUSINESS WHEN SARAH AND HER HUSBAND OR ANY OF HER CHILDREN HAVE SEXXXXXXXX- NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS-NOW GET YOUR LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG DIRTYYYYYYYYYYYYYY NOSE OUT OF THEIR LOVING HOUSE. I APPLAUD BRISTOL AND LEVI FOR KEEPING THEIR BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY. TO LOVE AND LOVE FOREVER. THEY MADE A MISTAKE WHEN HORMONES TOOK OVER LIKE MILLIONS HAVE BUT THEY KEPT THEIR BABY TO LOVE. THEY COULD HAVE CHOSE TO THROW IT IN A GARBAGE DUMPSTER, SET IT OUT IN THE STREET IN FREEZING WEATHER, OR TO KILL IT. THAT SHOWS THEY ALL HAVE A BIG BEAUTIFUL LOVING HEART. BRISTOL, ALWAYS KEEP LOVING YOUR BABY EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT BY YOURSELF- BECAUSE- CHILDREN ARE A VERY VERY PRECIOUS GIFT FROM GOD. GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF BOTH OF YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFETIMES.
I voted for Obama
Not for his morals (all children conveived and born within marriage... good start). I am not as deluded as you are, and know he may not be the best president in the history. BUT, putting his morals up against Palins? I'll take Obama for 4, please.
I voted for Obama to get the nut case bigots out of the trees, and into the deep grass so we can pick em off eaiser.
my2centsplus writes: Sunday, January, 04, 2009 7:28 PM
And Barry's mom
was also not doing the right thing.
Unlike you palinista's I don't have a double standard. But Obama might have learned, unlike the palin kiddies. Palin was knocked up when she got married. (she herself admitted to it.). I guess Obama saw the life his mom had , and was determined NOT to repeat the mistake. Lesson learned? Most likely.
It was not a 'valid' marriage, since he was also wed to other women at the time. BUT thank you for trying.
Well, I'm not a gossipy old lady! I don't hang at the fence and talk of my neighbors. It also helps that I have AWESOME neighbors. I'm an older mom, and this is my outlet. I have taught my daughters the law of Chasity. I have taught them by words and by actions and by example. Some of my children are products of teenage moms and dads. (kids are adopted). They know what kind of life that awaits them. they remember the poverity, the drugs, the abuse. They also know that their father (my husband) and I lived the law of Chasity until we were legally married. It was not easy. But it was well worth it. I CAN and DO look my children in the eye and tell them it is possible.
