Talkin' Scott McClellen with Martha MacCallum
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 3:37 PM
I was on the Live Desk this afternoon with Martha MacCallum, talking about the Scott McClellan story.

A few thoughts:  In noting that Bush has brought on too many squishy Texas loyalists who turned on him, I reference Matthew Dowd and Mark McKinnon. These two were notable because, like McKinnon, they are moderate Republicans ... at best (I would actually say liberals).  It should be noted that McKinnon did not turn on Bush.  However, he did resign from the McCain campaign because he isn't willing to oppose Barack Obama.

But McClellan wasn't just squishy, he was also incompetent. In this case, he would fit into the Alberto Gonzales category, as well...

You're right...
this liberal thinks it's pretty slimy and spineless for Scott to speak the truth after the fact. I would have had more respect for him if he would have quit earlier and then spoke out about the Bush administration. Looks very opportunist to me. But no doubt he will be game fully employed by MSNBC in the months to come. He'll probably get his own talk show.

It is a puzzlement
I don't know what to make of this but it strikes me as more than odd. For an administration notorious for cronyism and circling the wagons around the "good ole' boys", why are there are so many rats? Insider leaves, writes a tell all book. Paranoid but incompetent inner circle encased in a cocoon of competent but abused and resentful outer circle? Something like that, I think.

McClellan

Truth is, McClellan hasn't made any specific allegations about the Bush Administration pushing "propaganda."

From what I understand, Scott hasn't cited any specific examples in his book of what was "propaganda."
All he has done is mimic the talking points of left wing bloggers.

His family has a history of making spurious allegations against Presidents.
After all, didn't his father publish a crackpot book about how LBJ was behind JFK's assassination ?

Why the Surprise?
A Bush administration official resigned and then wrote a book stabbing his former colleagues in the back. I mean come on. Isn't that the way they do things in this administration?

McClellan was/is incompetent

McClellan was politely pushed out of the Press Secretary position because he was i-n-c-o-m-p-e-t-e-n-t.

If y'all haven't noticed, he didn't leave to take another job.
