Nobody is.
"In order to stop President Obama and the Democrats in Congress, I would rather see Christie win in New Jersey, Bob McDonnell win in Virginia, and have the Republican, Dede Scozzafava, win the special election in NY-23 so that election night in 2009 is a devastating defeat for the Democrats" -Gingrich
A Hoffman victory would accomplish the same thing...and then some. |

They've brung us this far... |

I think the smart people are the ones who have decided that we need a whole new group of politicians to follow. Those who have as you say "brung us this far" have done enough damage. |
and were he to run in 2012, I now know that he would not get my vote. |
Good morning. What Newt has yet to figure out is that people have had enough and the conservatives will no longer vote for someone just because they have an R next to their name. Sorry Newt but you have made yourself irrelevant when it comes to the new movement to get sensible politicians in DC. |
see matt you so called conservative haven't got around to the notion that if you want to actually run the GOP you will have to fight the "GOP Establishment."
Men like Newt, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, john boehner, and the ever amazing Mitch McConnell are currently caling the shots; not conservative punditry.
the question I would be asking is will the GOP old boys network punish conservative for have the audacity to "break the faith in a time of war?"
Yes one wonders indeed.

my comment was sarcastic as is my wont...
The Ivy Leaguers and Newt and 'em are the ones who are so smart that we are now bending over for pretty much any banana republic tyrant, mob boss, or inscrutable oppressor worldwide. Let's note that almost none of these other leaders who will soon be calling the shots - went to Harvard. I believe we need some bare knuckle brawlers in charge of national security and some farmers in charge of the budget. |

I have always thought Newt was an intelligent, highly enlightened, informed, fair- minded conservative American with America's best interests at heart. Maybe he still is that person, but I believe that he has allowed himself to become deluded with the notion we must keep replacing democrats with a republican. There are so many more so-called republicans in office today who are R.i.n.o.s than than we will ever know, AND to be able fight the evil of the liberal democratics, we need a REAL Conservative to replace them with! |
I did take your statement as sarcasm. I agree with you. All these so called brilliant politicians have put us in this mess.
We would be far better off with a housewife who has to figure out how to stretch her budget to take care of a husband and a few kids. She would probably do a much better job. |
would also have the salutary effect of causing several heart attacks in the editorial rooms of CNN/MSNBC/NYTimes/LATimes. And Oberlman would quite possibly choke on his own bile. Not a small benefit. Gingrich is not going to be "punished" for supporting a far left liberal in NY23. He is going to be rejected for his perennial poor judgment. Palin/Bachmann in 2012. (and watch EVERY SINGLE liberal in USA drop of apoplexy ;-) |
We don't build the party by supporting Democrats, we build the party by getting the Democrats to support us.
We don't build by changing our principles to agree with theirs, we bild by changing their principles to agree with ours.
We don't build a coalition by yielding our party to the opposition. You don't win by surrender. |
Newt has explained his reasons for supporting Dede Scozzafava several times. Strictly from the perspective of politics, he has a good argument, but that is the problem. The people are fed up with being represented by "politicians," they want actual representation, not someone whose decisions are simply career moves. Politicians are politicians first and representatives at re-election time. Dede Scozzafava is a politician.
Newt is playing Washington's version of gambling, his only interest is picking a winner based on the odds. The people's business is not a gamble Mr. Gingrich and we are damn tired of letting "politicians" roll the dice as a decision making tool, they continually "crap out."

Lines are being drawn,Rinos are being exposed, conservatives are showing leadership by openly defying the GOP and the dems are over reaching like an addict in a room full of crack. It's time to get this party started! |
Michael Medved said he supports Hoffman because Hoffman can win. Hmm. Medved also says constantly how he loathes and has great contempt for those who vote 3rd party because 3rd party people can't win. Hmm. So, according to Medved and Newt, one should only vote for the candidate who can win because 3rd party candidates can't win because no one votes for them. Ahhh! I think I see their logic.
Are the talking head "smart people" all mental?

....so much as left behind. I understand where he's coming from, he's standing by his party and see's that as the way to form a winning coalition that can eventually snowball and take this country back from the deceivers. Unfortunately, I think that has become an outdated way of thinking. Party lines are beginning to desolve, and the real criteria for people's votes is beginning to revolve around liberal/Conservative lines. It's unfortunate, because if there is one thing I want in a leader....especially on a national level....it's wisdom. I think if you look around you see precious little of it in our pols these days, but Newt definitely has wisdom. |
That's the problem, Newt. You think the two are synonymous. |

Depends on if he invokes the right of parlay... |
