Immigration 'reform' open lines Thursday
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 10:01 AM

The U.S. Senate is set to debate and rush through a comprehensive immigration reform compromise in the next few days.  Evidently there aren't 41 senators prepared to mount a filibuster to slow things down.   They apparently believe this bill is the best they can hope for.

What do you think?

Now is the time to let your senators know how you feel about the compromise -- its amnesty provision, the cost on social security, pathways to legal status and citizenship, and national security implications.

The Senate switchboard is 202-225-3121.   Always be polite but let them know where you stand.

Townhall.com wants to know where you stand on this important issue.  Join the debate by posting your comments below.

Saving the countries
If GWB has no interest in preserving this United States why should he expect us to support the notion of creating a free Iraq? He's spending more of our resources now to keep Iranians out of Iraq than to keep El Salvadorans out of the US.

Now is the Time for a 3rd Party!!!
What part do we have of being involved in TREASON against America??? That is what this apostate government in DC is doing, and that is what WE are doing by continuing to support these traitors. Our elected Congressmen, Senators, and President are committing TREASON against the very government they pretend to support. The State governments of the Red States need to step up to the plate now with the threat of Articles of Secession from the Federal government instead of continuing to make excuses for TREASON. It is our ONLY last stand other than legal challenge in the US Supreme Court against this legislation that so overtly denies US sovereignty and spits in the face of our Constitution. Corporate America has bought off these politicians COMPLETELY. It is only a mater of time before this legislation passes and subsequent investigations uncover corrupt Corporate payoffs of politicians for their votes on this TREASON. BY then, Corporate America will have gotten just what it wanted; the damage will have been done. Secession may very well be our only hope. Red-State Governors should be gearing up right now to lead the charge for Secession in their respective State legislatures. They should be flooding the airways of talk radio and tv with talk of Secession if this TREASON stands. Acting like a GOP pantywaist will not cut the mustard anymore. Desperate times have always called for desperate measures. The only other option is a Third Party; we MUST JUMP SHIP. This GOP ship is sunking fast! It is bereft of common sense and is no longer distinguishablefrom the Liberal Democratic Party of Insanity. THE GOP DOES NOT REPRESENT YOU ANY LONGER, AMERICA. The Democratic Party hasn't represented you in 40+ years. Where else can we or should we go but to OUR OWN DAMN PARTY, a PARTY OF BY AND FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND OUR CONSTITUTION - NOT THE AMERICAN CORPORATIONS AND THE LAWYERS!!!

The people who love this country are the one's with the least power right now. Middle class America whether Dem or Rep is ALWAYS getting the shaft because we are honorable, law abiding, and foolish enough to believe these morons care about us. For the last 40 years it has been proven that we don't exist. 10% of the left, 10% of the right, get all the attention the other 80% of us are just lambs. This might be the first time in decades that the middle class actually shows their muscle and gets something done in OUR best interest. The squeaky wheel gets the political money, maybe we can stop them from giving away our money for the first time. It's about time we as a group were heard. The rational part of this country disagree on issues, but not as grossly as these parties make it out to be. The fringes are polar opposites, and we are forced to pick a side that always finds a way that to never meet our needs or wonts. I hope this becomes a huge movement from both sides of the middle class that results in a change of power away from the Republicans big business ear, and the Democrats Soros socialism.

No Amnesty - Tom Tancredo For President
It is obvious that the Senate have grown tired of their positions within the Senate, I for one have every intention on voting against all those who Voted "Yes" to this Treasonous Amnesty. There is no need for another immigration haul, all that needs to happen is to enforce the laws that are on the books NOW! Why would you make another set of laws, when you are unable to enforce the lass that are on the books now. If the laws were enforced, Illegal Aliens would self-deport themselves, no jobs, no housing, back across the border they go, plain and simple.

This is plain treasonous amnesty and the American People will not forget this come election time.

Its because we expect this kind of nonsense from the Dem's. If it was just them no one would be surprised. Its the fact that the guys who stood there and made promises to us are now spitting in our faces that makes everyone so irate. Its common knowledge that politicians are corrupt people, but this is a new level in my book. I am on the younger side of the crowd here at TH, but i am of the opinion that our government sucks. Its a broken machine. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite as im in the military and have been for 8 years. No one said you have to like your boss though. Im sure im not the only one here who feels like my rights are for sale. It makes me wonder if any of the current politicians ever read a book written BY the founding fathers as to what they were aiming for when this country came together. All that IVY league education and they still dont know anything.

What about all the diseases, gangbangers, and drug dealers that will now waltz into the country because of this new bill? Republicans and Democrats don't address these things.

The laws in place people weren't following before. Why put new ones in? Enforce the laws already there! Where are these people going to get 5k? Cmon now.

Why are we giving worker visas for 400,000 when there are 14 million unemployed Americans!

Here in Ilinois in one of the suburbs the community leaders there were trying to make English the offical language of the town. The place was made up of only 40% Hispanic. And of course, people said it was "racist". Yes, how racist of Americans to expect people to learn and speak the language of the country. Good God. If you oppose anything like this you are a redneck racist right winger with no soul.

Maybe your children who can't find summer jobs would consider doing volunteer work with those less fortunate. Do they really need the money from those summer jobs as much as the immigrant kids do? There's a difference between working for luxuries, as most middle-class American-born kids do, and working for shoes or to help out at home, as many immigrant kids do. What a great opportunity to teach generosity of spirit.
--------------------------------
When my daughter is facing a minimum of $96,000 in college education costs, as opposed to the illegal immigrants that receive grants and free tuition in California, she counts on a summer job to offset the expenses.

As a teenager, I worked the strawberry, wheat, and cotton fields. I worked construction and slaughter houses. My children cannot do that anymore because those jobs are filled by people working for illegal SLAVE WAGES.

My ancestors did not die for this country so that my children's legacy can be given away to criminals and thieves. Their education is not a luxury in this society. You seriously need to grow up or stop interrupting your Prozac cycles.

Anyone Up For Overthrowing the Gov't?
While I'm personally more or less indifferent to the whole amnesty issue (you had to have known this was coming), it's quite apparent to many that our elected representatives do not appear beholden to the electorate. We're heading down the path of the EU, which is essentially an unelected oligarchy making policy without any input from the electorate.

Are you folks just gonna sit there and take it? Do you wanna be like all those lefties loons with BDS who consider Bush to be the embodiment of evil yet do nothing to stop him? It's been 230 years since our last revolution--who's up for seizing Washington?

Cut off
We need a president and a congress who will cut off federal funds to state and local governments who do not help to enforce immigration laws.

There are a lot of local and some state governments (officials) who refuse to cooperate with immigration services. There are lots of cities that will not ask about legal status.
BG writes: Friday, May, 18, 2007 8:29 AM
Sucker Bill
This is another sucker bill. We need enforcement first to stop the flow. Then we can deal with the people who are already here. I am very worried about continued flow. This bill does nothing to ensure that flow will stop.

It takes a dedicated aggressive President to deal with the expired visas. I can't beleive we are so vulnerable this long after 9/11. Romney needs to move on this issue.

If a fence will stop suicide bombers in Isreal it will stop illegals. However, more important than the fence is enforcement of the expired tourist visas! That is where most of the terrorists come from and this bill does nothing to deal with them. They do not have to work or need a green card.

Amnesty is a separate issue but any form of amnesty causes the flow to increase. However, the enforcement provisions and enactment are the key. We have to have a President who will actually implement enforcement.

Romney also needs to target the military conservatives who are supporting McCain. It makes no sense to fight terrrorists in Iraq if you are going to create an open border at home so that the terrorists can infiltrate easier. The key there is the long history of not enforcing or implementing the enforcement aspects of the border law.
Selfevident writes: Friday, May, 18, 2007 8:22 AM
Restore Rule of Law
A. Specter's comment that this bill will "restore the rule of law" is an unfathomably stupid statement. In making this comment Arlen Specter is admitting:
* here-to-for the rule of law has not existed with respect to national boarder security and enforcement of immigration laws.
* the Justuce Department has actively and intentionally supported the break down in the rule of law.
* the office of the President has supported the Justice Department's active support for the ignoring the rule of law.
* Congress intentionally failed in its oversight responsilbiliy in order to ensure the rule of law would not prevail.
* Specter now thinks we are ignorant enough of history, and stupid enough to believe these same responsible institutions, DOJ, President, Congress will now enforce an environment where the rule of law will prevail.

THE HOUSE MUST STOP THIS BILL! THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH MUST ENFORCE THE EXISTING RULES OF LAW. SECURE THE BOARDER, ARREST EMPLOYERS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS, AND DEPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS ARRESTED FOR OTHER CRIMES BEFORE TRIAL (They're here illegally, that's what the rule of law is all about). The rest of the illegals will eventually find their own way home, without us providing transportation for them, the same way they were able to find their way into our country, without transportations from us.

Can we afford the Iraq War?
That seems to be a major point in the Democrat talking points. I ask them: how many zeroes in a billion? Quickly, now, don't cheat!

By my estimation, we can fight some thirty three
Iraq wars cheaper than we can pay the cost that will be requires if and when this amnesty bill
is passed. And assuming the Democrats optimism is not premature, what are their remaining objections? Not easy enough for these amnesty families to bring their elderly who have never seen a doctor in their life here in time to require the maximum medicare/medicade welfare benefits! We do remember that 90% of medicare expenses are spent on the patient in the last
20 months of life, don't we?

Know anyone who lives out of state or across country from their folks? Ever been in the military with their penchent for transferring soldiers around? Did the Government hacks lay awake nights fretting because these extended families, including 16 aunts, uncles, cousins etc. were not within walking distance of each other? Not only are the costs of this action astronomical and open ended, but the Democrats are doing their utmost to pile on the maximum
expense.

"They pay taxes, they chirp". Put three children
in school (66% of the illegals are here with their dependents) and that is a cost of $9,600
per child per year or 30 Grand! A family of five would have to earn $100,000. a year to pay that much in taxes! Go to the super market. Ever see a family with less than three kids? 90% of the illegal aliens, if they file taxes, it is for the "earned Income Tax Credit"

This is so full of lies there should be a national contest to see who can find one grain of truth from either party.

Immigration reform
How much is the American citizenship? The answer, according to the Senate is very simple: $5,000.00. So for illegal immigrants the American citizenship will cost $10,000 overall: five grand to "coyotes" to get through the border and five grand to American government! This is the smartest investment ever!
Everything else in the proposed bill is a salad dressing (looks like French to me,) designed to fool not very sophisticated Americans (Senators know very well the quality of American high school education.)

We need to rise hell!!! The only penalty for trespassing American border is deportation; after that, sealing the borders and only then a presentation of the work program.

The burning question I have for a long time is why foreigners who work the fields, mowing lawns, cleaning houses or work at factories must be American citizens? At any cost?
Because we are dealing with corrupt politicians, ambitious self appointed leaders and stubborn President. If Republicans in Senate support this legislature we should never vote for them again so this whimsical miserable Party cease to exist. It is time we stand together against our own representatives who basically represent themselves. It's maybe just a dream, but how we need a new, real Peoples Party!

As for the $5K, I'm pretty sure Sorros (votes) would help fund a lot of that money along with the Mexican Government because it would be cheaper than actually having to deal with them. I find it ironic that Democrats follow a murderer like Kennedy through thick and thin. ALL of these sh***heads have no concept of real life. They attend no schools that deal with tese problems unless Andover, Lassiter, and other elite prep schools have changed their admission policies. The burden of the middle class... as usual will be tremendous. 40% of the country already pays no taxes, now add 100k plus aliens of which 60%+ will eventually end up on the books. Baby boomers retire and we'll be paying for their social security where is the money coming from? Oh yeah, when the Dems have full control, and they will have full control, socialized medicine will be added to the bursting budget. Add this is only the first waive of illegals. Once business figure out that paying taxes on legal workers is to expensive they'll need more illegals, and after 20 years, they'll have to come out the dark and... it never ends. As for the racist issue, that my friends is a joke. This country allows 2 million plus LEGAL IMMMIGRANTS every year, more than every nation combined, and no one complains about that, so stop with the rhetoric. As for kicking them out, no, just penalize the businesses, and give no aid and they will flow out themselves. As for NEEDING them to do jobs, this is a myth of the businesses exploiting the workers (Rep's) and propaganda (Dem's) that have convinced American's that wellfare is better than working. If the jobs are so necessary, why is John Edwards proposing to CREATE 1.5 million temporary jobs to help people on wellfare get jobs? You heard it right, creating jobs for people instead of MAKING them take jobs that are vacant. The middle class, as always gets squeezed form both the rich and needy. Union members are so faithful to their corrupt leaders that they ignore the push by unions for this Amnesty. Blacks are so blinded by Sharpton, Jackson and other charletons that they can't see that they are being sold out also. It's a real shame that we have allowed the richest .001% of the country to deal away our values as a country. The only real answer I can think of is to actually find out what companies are the biggest lobbiest for this bill and boycott them. Since the Republicans don't give a crap, go to the money source and see if that has any effect.

Why is this considered a Republican Bill? I thought the Democrats control the Senate and House: even when Republicans were nominally in charge, Democrats stopped any legislation they didn't agree with!

This presents us with a true "Hobsons Choice". All the Republicans are doing is agreeing with the Democrats! I am as dumbfounded as most over the Republican behavior (Bush especially) and I would feel avenges to some degree if we could Fire the Ba$tards, All. BUT that would be shooting ourselves in the foot. Would we be any better off then with Democrats who helped them commit the act, surviving unscathed, even without criticism, we being so so enraged by being sold out by our own? What would be accomplished by that? And while I am asking questions of y'all, why are the Democrats letting
their politicians skate over this issue? They will be hurt just as much by the early collapse of Medicade, Medicare, SSI and Healthcare as Republicans.

I respect you, I truly do. And I know the anger you feel is sincere. And anger, especially cornered anger, needs a target. The illegals aren't the cause of this. The government, the business class is. I'm sure most of the illegals are just poverty stricken people who want to make more money for their families in America, land of milk and honey. And two bucks an hour probably makes em feel rich. But two bucks an hour for someone who grew up here is, well, s**t wages.

And that's why the true threat here is the impact this will have on everyone's standard of living. But don't blame the illegals. They're just responding to market forces. Blame the market. It's a bigger and harder target to locate, but it's the right one.

It's NOT about Race
Who are the ones marching in hordes in our streets waving Mexican flags as if they are proud of that country? Who is throwing the biggest fits about our laws and our country?

Who is meddling almost daily in our policy making and in our politics? It is Mexico if you haven't noticed. No other country with a population of illegal aliens here in the USA, meddles as much in our business as Mexico does. The Mexican government constantly interferes with just about everything the USA does concerning protecting our borders and stopping the flow of illegal aliens into this country from Mexico and from ALL OVER THE WORLD! But the biggest whiners are the Mexican Nationals who come here, uninvited, undocumented and ILLEGALLY. Then they whine about our laws.

If they don't like the laws that the people of the USA live by, don't come here and whine about it. Stay in Mexico and protest the Mexican government to get its act together and take care of its own people. It's not the USA or the American taxpayers' job to take care of the Mexican people OR the Mexican government.

Mexico is a country and it's citizens are Mexicans. The United States of America is a country, it's citizens are called Americans. Americans are NOT A RACE and Mexicans are NOT A RACE. This whole illegal immigration thing isn't about race.

It's about the rights of Americans wanting to remain a sovereign nation, a nation of laws and a nation who wants our borders secured and our children to be protected and safe from the terror that was thrust upon us on 9-11-01.

Seems to me half the blogosphere is up in arms and screaming about illegal aliens.

No, y'all do a damn fine job of framing this as a race issue all by yourselves. I'm sorry, I just don't believe you when you say "I don't care what country someone is from." If that was the case, no one would be freaking out about leprosy and gangs and Spanish-speaking teachers and lettuce and the lack of a summer job for junior. I highly doubt there'd be this level of hysteria if we had 12 million Swedish dentists here illegally.

You can use all the code words you want, but when it comes down to it it's all about fear of a "Mexican invasion," not about the law. And really, if you were thinking ahead, you'd see it's not about laws but about WAGES, and WORKING CONDITIONS, and the continued power of CAPITALISM to turn working folks into each others enemies.

You have far more in common with those illegals than you think.

It is easy for all the pro-illegal, bleeding hearts to sit in their air-conditioned room, in front of their computers, to tell us hateful conservatives that amnesty is the compassionate and humane thing to do for the 20 million illegals living in this country. It is apparent they are not affected by the lost of jobs and diminished lifestyle. It reminds me of my years in a small town near Boston, where I was given the daily dose of "Those southerners are just a bunch bigots." It was easy for them to say because, with the exception of myself, there wasn't a single non-white person in town. Personally, as a minority, I encountered more bigotry in Boston than any place I have lived in the south.

None of you bleeding hearts would be so tolerant of illegal aliens if you spend a few years in southern California, or worst, in a border town in Arizona. After you have experienced the 3,000 plus illegal aliens pouring across the border every night, trashing you property and threatening your family, then come back to TH and tell me that you still believe amnesty is the right thing to do. If you do that, then I would respect your position.

Good night.

America does have a culture. It's bought and paid for by ten or twelve giant multinationals and pumped out through millions of TV screens twenty four hours a day.

You're pining for a golden age that never existed. Most of the immigrants in the 1880s-1920s hardly spoke English and many never did; they spoke Polish and Yiddish and Russian and German and Latvian and Greek and Italian.

"Call me racist if you want to, if you are here illegally i want you deported."

I don't get it. What's race got to do with being here illegally?

Some people seem reluctant to even talk about illegal aliens. It seems the MSM and pro-illegal groups have been pretty effective in framing the argument in such a way as to make Americans think if they stand up for their rights and their country's rights they are somehow bigots. That is hogwash. I don't care what country someone is from, they need to follow our existing path to citizenship. We need to insist on it or we will be overrun. Our republic can only function if everyone follows the same rules, those that don't must be punished. If America annouces to the world "We can't stop you, so come on in", the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn't get your attention, then wait until it's 10,000 a day. We cannot sustain this influx and survive as a nation. We must speak up and speak to each other about this and not let false claims of racism or bigotry be used to intimidate us into silent assent. America is not Congress' to give away. America belongs to we the people. Speak to your neighbors, speak to your coworkers, but please speak up to your Congressmen and Senators. It's O.K. for us to enforce our laws, no, really, it is.

Everything you say is true. And that's exactly what the governing class wants. Public services? We didn't have them in the 19th century. Back then workers were unprotected and at the mercy of their bosses. Working people fought back through those quaint organizations called unions that all you Repubs are so glad Reagan got rid of.

Well, welcome to the bright and shiny future you all voted for. Cheap labor, crappy-to-none- existent public services, an overwhelmed infrastructure, racial tension.

That was a time that the people who came here were not a leech on the system, they improved it. It seems like we are so afraid of offending someone else that we screw our own people. Take a look around people, other countries DO NOT worry about offending us. They really couldn't care less. No one is bending over backwards and selling their people out for us. If I wanted violent gangs running major cities in my country, I would have moved to Mexico. If I wanted to be infected with TB, Leprosy or Hepatitis and other diseases that were practically eradicated in the USA, I would have moved to Mexico. If I wanted to live under a third world regime, I would have moved to Mexico, but it looks like I no longer have to move to Mexico to live a third world existence. Robert, $5 or $5000 or wait x number of years before eligible for citizenship, it is all tantamount to selling citizenship. You need to understand the law, sir. You break the law, you pay the penalty stated in that law. In the case of illegal aliens, they broke the law by crossing our border without permission. The penalty is deportation. Until you and advocates for your point of view can change the law, I insist as a citizen that the current crop of illegals be subjected to our laws. Fine, the Congress can come up with "comprehensive immigration reform." Once done, I must live with whatever law our elected official signed into law. Again, the current crop of illegals are subjected to the laws in the books when they snuck into our country, not the laws that are passed five years after they have entered.

Davy, am I a racist when I go to the emergency room for a real emergency, and the room is flooded with illegals using the facility as their family doctor? Am I a racist to get angry because my children cannot find a summer job because the jobs young American used to do, while they are out of school for the summer, are all taken by illegal aliens? I pointed out the the above only to demonstrate how a guest-worker program could pay for itself. For the past two centuries our method of forcing economic and social change was to offer a better opportunity in our land, and it's made us the greatest nation the world has known.
(And we SHOULD be concerned.)

DB:
"This is an unbridled invitation to invite even more illegals, which places a tremendous burden on towns who have to pay for and subsidize education, social services, medical expenses et. al."

You just REFUSE to see! First of all, our nation and economy are fueled by the labor of the undocumented, so your statement is at least arguably false on those grounds alone. And then we cut off our nose to spite our face by driving these people underground and off the tax roles! LEGALIZE, TAX, and offer LESSER BENEFITS than for citizens! Not only will these people cover their own footprint on our communities, they may help solve the Social Security and Medicare crises.
Even now, a tenth of the money in the Social Security trust fund is from "ghost workers" working under made-up or other people's SSNs.

To people who still support Bush, the "viable" Republican contenders running and not yet running, and the Republicans in Congress:

Apologize for Rockefellers and you get Rockefeller Republican policy. The Libertarians and Paleoconservatives are unreasonable? What did you think we have been complaining about? This President and many in Congress are not Conservatives, they have a track record on this and I hear is people call me liberal for criticizing them. The call us "losertarians", well your support for these people have caused us all to lose today. Keep it up and it will just get worse. All of you need to read Conservative writing and quotes from the early '90s because the current Republican talking points are completely different nowadays if you haven't noticed. See what people like Sean Hannity said about Kosovo. Savage said Clinton attacked to establish an oil pipeline. We complained about policing the world. We said we are just creating unnceccessary threats. We said you don't go with the military you have, you fight to win. You don't fight unneccessary wars but you don't fight on the cheap. Fiscal matters had the upmost importance, now we have record debt. We wanted to eliminate departments and shrink government, it is the largest it has ever been. The Department of Education has doubled in size and the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT tests your children and forces your local schools to conform to THEIR STANDARDS. These are the risks of centralization. The viable candidates support the Assault Weapons ban. The Republican Congress once had a surplus, not now. What are you guys making excuses for? I know you were all against amnesty, but when you have politicians that don't vote conservatively on the issues and "compromise" on a consistent basis, what is to be expected?

What do you do when their family members get amnesty too? What about all the people that will flood into the US now that passage is near? Bought and paid for in your wages and taxes. Sold to Congress with campaign funds from big donors with future "employment" opportunities. I am sure they are grateful for your generosity. Do you guys remember all the arm twisting and loosening of the rules for CAFTA? We will have a similar vote in the house. They need to punch this in before the election and they will. Who are you going to vote for, all the candidates that are deemed "viable" by the MSM and Talk Radio are for amnesty? The moderate Senator from Tennessee turned conservative savior, Fred Thompson, is an amnesty supporter. This is the kind of scum we are going to make the President? And they call Ron Paul supporters "kooks"? Get real, there is no way in hell I would ever support somebody who ignores the Constitution and such a fundamental Conservative position. How do you justify that?

This is what is alarming about the overheated rhetoric surrounding the illegal immigration issue; the seductive pull of authoritarianism. What we need is MORE democracy, not less. A strongman--a Saddam, a Hitler, a Stalin, a Mao--might seduce people with his reassuring rhetoric and assuage their fears temporarily.

The fact that you believe a "strongman" would "enforce the Constitution, violently if necessary," shows how little you understand the Constitution or, for that matter, America.

The price of not listening to their base, and of giving amnesty to the illegal immigrants will be very high. The Republican Party will be out of power for at least 8 to 12 years. Losing the election in 2006 was about not enforcing our borders and spending too much in the budget. If the Republican party does not represent the core, then the core voters do not show up to vote for them at the election. We only lost in 2006 by 2%. That says it all. It does not take a huge number of people to cause us to lose again in 2008 and 2012. A lot of political heads are going to roll after this next election. The pros that are advising these candidates now had better make their money now, because no one is going to want to use them as advisers and staff in the future. Any Senator who votes Yes on this abomination of a bill, after 80% of the US citizens have told them no amnesty... to secure the borders... and demagnetize the draw of benefits so that they will deport themselves...

Should be considered having turned in his resignation from the senate.

He/she obviously no longer represents the citizens of the United States of America, Having abandoned their oaths to uphold the law. Instead have sold thier souls to foreign Invader hordes.

Why have they capitulated to Invader demands instead of declaring WAR on Mexico. Any other country would have done so before now. But... NO. What do we do. Kiss their rear ends. Why? This is an invasion by a foreign army. We just surrendered.

The Senators obviously represent globalist/elitist agendas of Big Business and have their fealty sworn to Mexico and the North American Union. They no longer represent the American people or our Sovereignty. Our soldiers did not give their blood for Mexico or the North American Union.

If they do not voluntarily resign, then the Governors should remove them. The constituents should demand their removal. The 17th amendment was never ratified. The Governors can remove the Senatorial asses from the senate.

The 14th Amendment does not give citizenship to Anchor babies.

The Original ratified 13th amendment is missing and a different one is now listed in the Constituion as thirteenth. It is actually the 14th. And the original states that lawyers cannot be members of Congress. Along with other titles of nobility.

The sixteenth Amendment ( income tax) was NOt ratified and the income tax is illegal along with the Federal Reserve which is owned by foreign entities such as China , Germany, etc.

Here's the bill I'd like to see...
What happened to the sovereignty of our nation??? When did we stop deciding on who could and who couldn't enter our country. Anyway here's the bill I'd like to see...

1. SEAL the border now! Place the National Guard from one end of the border to the other. Isn't this what our government is supposed to do - Provide for National Security and Defend the Nation from invasion!!!

2. Provide employers with an instantaneous (electronic) means to verify legal citizenship or green card.

3. Mandate jail time and heavy fines for any employer who hires illegals.

4. Stop providing free services for illegals:
a. Hospital Care
b. School
c. Welfare
d. Food stamps

5. Eliminate (or redefine) the "anchor baby" provision in the Constitution.

6. Make English the official language of the USA and make all official documents only available in English.

7. Limit Visas to 30 days and track all people who overstay their visas.

8. Eliminate H1B visas.

New Zealand has very strict immigration requirements and severely limits immigration numbers to only those skills needed in their country. We should model our immigration after NZ.

Seriously, though
I have two suggestions, well three, really.

"Politics makes strange bedfellows." I can't speak for the rest of you, but it ain't one of the ones who has been most hurt by our runaway invasion problem. Hey, I'm an upper middle class, middle-aged white woman married to a civilian engineer for DoD. Why should I complain about cheap lettuce? So who is most hurt? I'd bet it's been African-Americans. I think those of us opposed to this bill should make common cause with leaders in the African-American community. Conservatives have been sold out by the Republicans, and African-Americans are being sold out by the Democrats.

Second, Article V of the Constitution provides for 2/3 of the state legislatures to call for a Convention for the purpose of proposing Constitutional Amendments. Slow process? Yes. But state legislatures tend to be more responsive to their constituents. They also tend to be filled with politicians who are looking to make their mark so they can replace some of those US Reps and Senators that have people so angry right now. And perhaps if enough people started demanding action from their state legislatures (in addion to their US Reps and Senators), the pressure would cause Congress to buckle.

Beyond that, let's get the lawyers doing an anal exam on this piece of $%^& legislation. Surely there must be something in it that we could use to tie it up with a court challenge at least until after the '08 election.

Immigration vs. Migration
Yes, hispanics can certainly be as American as you or I, I know some. However, Mexicans are not Americans, Guatamalans are not Americans, Hondurans are not Americans, El Salvadorans are not Americans. They can be, IF they apply for legal entry and follow our EXISTING path to citizenship. When someone lets himself into your house without your permission, do you consider him a guest? I don't. Invasion is not the right term, but what is happening is NOT immigration. Immigrants get visas. People do not have an unlimited right to "migrate" from their country to ours. I know many immigrants from all over the world and it is especially for them that I oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. Some have waited years in refugee camps in southeast asia for their chance to become Americans. They respect this country, our laws, language and culture. All of them took the time, effort and expense to do it the right way. We should honor all those who have and not insult their sacrifices with another amnesty. The amnesty of 1986 has resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens and a general disregard for our laws. Another amnesty would be equally successful.

What I sent to McCain
May 17, 2007

Senator John McCain
Washington, D.C.

Dear Senator McCain:

As a GOP state committeeman in LD 11 in your state, as well as a father of a five-year-old daughter who is going to inherit the mess created by this proposed bill, I absolutely deplore your help in passing such an abominable piece of legislation. To reward this flood of humanity which illegal swarms across our borders is unconscionable. They murder Americans daily, they swamp our schools for free and use our medical facilities for free while AMERICANS have to pay every penny for their medical care and pay increased costs to cover illegal aliens. How anyone from the state of Arizona could POSSIBLY consider giving a road to citizenship to people whose first act in our country was to break our laws by entering illegally, trashing our state along the way, boggles the mind.

I cannot support a yes vote on this bill. “Comprehensive immigration reform” is a euphemism for AMNESTY, and no matter how you word it, it will ALWAYS be amnesty.

It’s time to stop pulling phrases like “jobs Americans won’t do” and “this is a nation of immigrants” out of the hat, as though every other nation on the planet ISN’T a nation of immigrants. Apparently every other country’s citizens simply sprouted from the soil. We are rewarding lawbreakers, and this includes employers who have been breaking federal laws for decades by hiring them. There is no excuse for this, and if you are part of this I will do whatever I can to work against you in any future election. Most people I know in LD 11 feel the same. This is good timing to make Congressman Tancredo shut you down in the polls.

Treat your constituents the way they should be treated by someone who supposedly represents them. VOTE NO ON AMNESTY IN ANY FORM, INCLUDING THIS BILL.

I still have high hopes that the House of Representatives will do the right thing and block the bill, even if the Senate betrayed us. The Dems have a very small margin in the House. All it takes a handful of Dems to side with us, we can stop Bush, providing all the Republicans stick together. I think even the Dems in the House are getting an earful from their districts at home. Unlike Senators, who elected statewide, the congressmen has to answer to the intense pressure put on them by their constituents. You got remember that the Dems won the House by recruiting a bunch of anti-illegal alien candidates.

The Senate is hopeless. The House better do what most of the people want or they are done!

Sen. Isakson and Sen. Chambliss stand with Kennedy for largest amnesty in history

DEAR GEORGIANS,

Your two Senators stood at the press conference this afternoon and lent their support to the worst immigration bill in history — and there have been some disastrous ones.

After months of promising the voters of Georgia that they would never participate in full legalization of the 12-20 million illegal aliens, these two Senators are embracing a bill that will allow more than 98% of them to remain in your communities and job markets forever.

And your Senators didn’t even get the trigger they talked so much about. Rosemary Jenks is reading the bill and says that there are loopholes that allow the full amnesty whether or not any additional enforcement measures are ever implemented. In fact, the enforcement sections are as riddled with loopholes as the 1986 amnesty, Rosemary says.

Sen. Isakson and Sen. Chambliss have been played as fools by Pres. Bush and Sen. Kennedy.

Their embarrassment would be greatly reduced if you can persuade them to vote NO next Monday.

The state of Georgia and the good citizens of Georgia are being used as the primary props to try to convince the nation that this bill will end illegal immigration and do what is best for the American people.

It is in your hands whether Sen. Chambliss and Sen. Isakson will be allowed to continue to represent you in this way.

What planet do you live on, Robert? Last time I checked, America was a nation that fought two world wars, one of which was fought in two major geographical theatres. This nation sent men to the moon! Harnessed atomic energy. This nation can do anything if it has the resolve. Deportation of all these people would be the correct and lawful thing to do. True, we can't do it overnight, and perhaps it'll take decades, but at least the government would finally start enforcing the laws and protect the citizenry, which is precisely what it's supposed to do! If the government gets away with this, what other laws do you think they should ignore?

Perhaps a strongman is what we need, because we obviously don't have any on either side of the aisle today. Perhaps someone who will enforce the Constitution, violently if necessary, is what is desperately needed. We've been due for a tax revolt for 70 years; Reagan only delayed the inevitable. The Declaration of Independence actually encourages such a revolt when the Government no longer sees to the interests of the nation or of the people proper.

Twelve million illegals (plus their family members) all voting democrat should finish off the republican party once and for all. I gave up on the republicans long ago as there is really no difference between them and the democrats anyway. I have always wondered: If illegal aliens were really interested in becoming Americans, wouldn't they have applied for citizenship before they sneaked across the border? They clearly are allegiant only to Big Business, and they are also deluded if they think even 20% of illegals who become legal citizens will ever vote Republican.

You know, one thing I wish, is if those from south of the border are going to flood this nation could they at least embrace what it is to be an American? Could they at least leave their culture behind? “86” the 110th Congress

Leaders of this Congress keep telling us it is wrong to repeat the same failed strategy but that is exactly what this Congress intends to do. It is considering passing legislation modeled after its proven failed 1986 immigration legislation. The only difference is that this time they are going to make the same mistake on a much larger scale.

Proponents say, but “this time it is different” because we “will” secure the border. This is a false statement. There is nothing in the legislation that guarantees the borders will ever be secured. Congress, true to its modus operandi, has again set “benchmarks” to be achieved. The same misrepresentation was made to us in 1986 when we were told the border “will” be secured. Immigration reform is necessary but all the legislation in the world will make no difference if the borders are not secured first. If members of Congress were honest about this issue they would not only admit but insist that the borders have to be proven secured before any immigration reform can take affect. This means that illegal alien crossings would be 99% stopped for at least 2-5 years before immigration reform would become effective. We have secured and stopped all unauthorized intrusions for 50 years into “Area 51” and we can do the same for our borders. Notwithstanding their hollow rhetoric, the only reason we have not secured our borders is because those in power, Congress and the President do not want to secure our borders.

The Democrats just want more voters and power, not what is best for country. Republicans want cheap labor and not to loose political ground. Both are strictly self-serving motives and are not the actions of statesmen. The presently proposed immigration reform bill, that appears likely to pass, lays a strong foundation for replacing all those in Congress that put the interests of their respective parties, over the interests of our country by supporting this bill. An immigration reform bill with out first physically (not just by paper fiat) securing the borders will have little if any positive effect. Why should any one go through all the obstacles the Congress temporarily imposes for legal status when they have all they want at no or very little cost? If they are deported they can be back in a week with out any hassle. To paraphrase the old saying, “Lie to me once shame on you, lie to me twice, shame on me.” We would be well served to remember this when it comes time to vote.

It's time we find a new party that isn't looking out for themselves and their powerful friends. Washington is all about power, connections and greed and very little has to do with honest policy and what's in the best interest of the nation. Our leaders want open borders to prop up their over spending and put more money in the pockets of their friends. The democrats are successfully changing the culture and demographics of the nation away from what our founding fathers created and the Republicans are too stupid and self-interested to look out for their base. That's ok, if this passes I will not vote Republican again.....has anyone noticed that it really doesn't matter who has the power in Washington, they just keep pushing bad policy and high taxes down our throats.

Why 'the Bible' is so offensive -
Politicians were reported on rather harshly in the Bible, and there are many reasons for that criticism -- down through the ages.

The tired old expression "There are jobs Americans won't do" seems to be one large crock of you know what. When politicians got involved in 'helping', didn't that venture of itself take 'some jobs' off the list? After all, if 'government' benefits pay more than an entry level or 'sweat job' or even a 'dirty job', why not "NOT do those jobs"?

Much of the complaining and rhetoric we hear comes from those who profit from taxpayer funded 'government programs'. Is it any wonder why The Bible has become anathema to 'government'. After all, doesn't the Bible sort of say "If any won't work, then neither let them eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Of course, such a position won't buy a large bloc of votes, will it?

Even earlier, gleaners were permitted BY LAW to go along behind the harvesters in order to work so they could eat. If there was famine, the people were allowed to migrate to other lands -- but those migrants had to obey local law as long as such law was not contrary to God's instructions.

Joseph's family was ALLOWED to migrate to Egypt, but several generations later, the politicians and Pharoah became fearful these people might 'take over' -- even though contrary to what we have seen of late -- the migrants did NOT want to 'take over'. However, 'government' no longer saw these people as 'beneficial' but as 'cheap', even SLAVE labor.

But that is the way of politicians -- what was 'legal' yesterday may not be 'legal' tomorrow. It all depends on who gets 'in charge' and HOW.

We must be constantly on guard when politicians get their hands on ANYTHING and specifically when 'government' wants to 'do something' for some that defies all reason. If a job 'must be done', then why on Earth pay someone for NOT doing it and then allow law-breakers who have not been 'brought to Justice' do those jobs instead -- while still paying people NOT to do them?

No matter what a group of poliiticians tell us about 'welfare', you can bet your last cent that it is their OWN welfare that they are wanting to protect -- while they paint their 'programs' all sorts of fancy colors, ribbons and the wrapping is emblazoned with "It's the humane thing to do". And if we swallow it, we must remember it comes from that same crock I mentioned earlier.

Death of the working middle class
We are witnessing on the Hill, Senators and the President are congratulating themselves for granting amnesty to criminals. The reference to criminals isn't the individuals. The criminals referenced are the employers and corporations exploiting these people. Similar to the Bill being considered; it may look pointed at the individuals, but the individuals would not be here if not for the 'white collar' criminals hiring them. The Bill gives amnesty to them with the cost paid by the illegal aliens, and the working middle class.

Now the exploitation is expanded. Now, everyone not working for themselves, not a government employee, not "skilled" and not a lot of other things I can' think of right now are in the same position. Once this is in place, the working middle class no longer exists. There will only be those making plenty of money and those barely making enough to fill the gas tank.

The impact will be on the US citizens who make their living working these jobs. Not only the maintenance jobs but people doing electrical work, cement, wall board, and pretty much any kind of construction. Truck drivers, warehouse workers, all are in jeopardy. Go to the maximum new minimum wage to be implemented in a year - $7.25/hour. Why pay $20 or even $10/hour when people will be lining up for $7.25/hour. When, as an illegal, you were previously getting much less than that, on the high end $5.00/hour; $7.25 is a 45% raise! Those working jobs now better be careful and look over their shoulder. One slip and you can be history. Look at the recent Circuit City employee purge as an example.

YEAH for the Corporations! You've got your cheap workforce insured for another generation of profits! Keep that money flowing to your representatives! Obviously they do not represent the vast majority of people against this Bill. What better indication of the lack of any distinction between the political parties; Senator Kennedy and President Bush congratulating themselves for their achievement in coming to agreement to bring more minimum wage workers into the workforce for the corporations who put money into their political campaign.

Just how many of those supremely educated senators do you think actually read the 700+ pages of the bill? Just follow the money back to who pays their real bills and you will find their real masters, since they sure don't represent the American people or any ideals found in the Constitution or any other founding article for this Republic. The only legacy that Bush will be noted for is the destruction of the United States and its culture. this won't work
I commend Congress and the White House for finding some common ground on anything right now, but this legislation will not improve illegal immigration.

Sure, there will be some workers that will take on the path to citizenship. And that's great, they deserve to be here. But as it's outlined so far, citizenship will be costly and time-consuming for most.

The backlash of this is that it will provide a shady legal backdrop for immigrants to come here, get shuffled through the system and remain here illegally.

A fence will not solve this problem. A bill will not solve this problem. A series of hoops to citizenship will not solve this problem. Fine employers that hire illegal immigrants - and fine them often - and this will no longer be a problem.

Which of your family members gets sacrificed to this crap?

Here's your illegal immigration champion!

Five months ago, Carlos Barrera, an illegal Mexican in Hollywood, Ca., mugged three people, burglarized two apartments, and tried to rape a five-year-old girl. Barrera had been deported four years ago after serving time for robbery, drugs, and burglary. Since his reentry following deportation, he had been stopped twice for traffic violations. But thanks to special order 40, the police had never mentioned him to the immigration authorities, reports the New York Times.

Really, I would like an answer. How many felony criminals get Social Security and a free ride for life to satisfy your sense of fairness? My family only gave up the lives of a few hundred people in defense of this nation over the last 200+ years. Which laws can we now start breaking daily?

Its been estimated that the average dinner plate would rise about 1$. Besides no one in this forum (as best i can tell) is refusing to let them work on an as needed basis.

However that work offer does not come with rights to demand we bend over backwards to appease them. It should not come with free medical or education, the right to evade taxes or commit identity theft. The right to wave their flag in our face and demand amnesty.

The people in this forum appreciate what america has given them and don't like the idea of selling citizenship for 5000$ to lawbreakers. The political power being displayed now by 12 million illegals is nothing to the power they and their families will have in 20 years when they are 100 million strong.

Of course the democrats are willing to give up some of what they want. They fully understand that once the door is open, the millions of hispanic voters will wield even more power to further change whatever laws are passed today.

The illegals will still arrive.
This bill will not stop them from coming here to live, and work, undocumented. There are thousands of Americans willing to house them, and pay them, to receive benefit. Those Americans make the rest of population pay their dues to America. The illegal, undocumented, aliens are a cash cow for those irresponsible to community, state, and nation. If there were to be a permanent cure it would focus on boarder control,as well as checks, and balances,in the immigration service. A service completely independant of any oversite by the people. Remember, after 9/11, all the uproar concerning this service, and their possible culpability? Never heard much, did you? The undocumented will still arrive, as this legislation does not address the problem.

Immigration Amnesty
If amnesty is given to illegal immigrants, America is sending a very clear message to every person in the world: It's OK to break our laws if you can get away with it for a certain period of time.

Democrat politicians are all for amnesty, because they know most illegals would vote democratic. These politicians know the severe problems that illegal immagration causes for most Americans, but what's best for democrat politicians trumps what's best for Americans.
Twas ever thus.

"The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" and _ after paying fees and a $5,000 fine _ ultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. Heads of household would have to return to their home countries first."

How many illegal immigrants have $5K in their back pocket to pay this fine? This will continue to force them underground. After reviewing other provisions in this proposed bill I've come to the conclusion it is not only unrealistic, but unenforceable.

Any immigration policy must address the abusive Anchor Baby issue. Just because an illegal has a baby inside our borders is no execuse to allow that child instant American citizenship. Ok here I go...
Flaming Liberal Multiculturalist:

HUGE chunks of the prosperous American economy run on the labor of udocumented immigrants.

>> This is a recent phenomenon. It's also disengenuous for you and our President to suggest these jobs are done by Americans who are unwilling. There are plenty of Americans capable of doing the work of illegals, it's just that employers would rather pay lower wages and the government would rather cut a welfare check then put the recipients to work.

These jobs are OBVIOUSLY not being stolen from 'real Americans' by undocumented workers; Republicans schizophrenically claim such while simultaneously congratulating themselves on the Nation's historically low unemployment rates.

>> See above comment.

The tiny percentage of illegal border crossers who we SHOULD be concerned about, those who seek to infiltrate our country to commit acts of terror, blend in with the vast numbers of hungry, hardworking peasants whose most malicious desire is to clean our hotel rooms.

>> So what's the obvious solution to this situation? Border security, which includes a fence, more border and ICE agents and a tamper proof National ID. Oh, did I mention a National ID... how Zenophobic of me - LOL! And let me dispell another myth. Not all illegals are hard working peasants, in fact many are illiterate, under-educated and bring with them criminal records. Every major city in America has areas where illegals loiter in an attempt to obtain day labor. This simply means there aren't enough jobs for those currently here and yet every day more are flooding across. When they don't get hired they turn to CRIME. I've seen it in the community I live in.

Finally, because we have defined these people to be criminals and our zeal to keep them that way knows no limits, all their labor is in the underground economy, completely untaxed.

>> What part of illegal don't you get? If you come here illegally, by definition your in violation of our laws and are thusly termed a criminal. What part of the connection don't you understand?

Could you design a MORE STUPID SITUATION if you tried??

>> In this we agree, however your solution is vastly different than mine.

Obviously, obviously, obviously we NEED a guest worker program, by which a Mexican Peasant wishing to clean our hotel rooms or mow our lawns or pick our mushrooms could get legal status in a day or two.

>> I disagree with your conclusion. We don't need a guest worker program. We have plenty of labor here and now to fill every job in the country. What we don't do is enforce existing immigration laws, which is the primary contributor to the current and future situation.

Today he often pays criminals hundreds of dollars to often as not lock him in a trailer and let him roast to death in the desert, so CHARGE him fifty bucks or so.

>> This is of no concern to any American, nor should it be. The simple solution is not to come to America. Stop having 8+ children per family and force economic and social change within Latin America.

He wants to work here, we want borber security, we want to keep out criminals, so let him bring identity documents and let's FINGERPRINT him. Give him his card, and viola! Contractors, meatpackers, and farmers now have cheap LEGAL labor, easily verified! Don't you think that today's undocumented workers will want to become legal also, now that their employers can avoid being busted? IDENTIFY them, charge them some payable amount of back taxes, and finally LET THE TAX REVENUE START ROLLING IN and put it to work on REAL problems, like Social Security and Medicare.

>> This is an unbridled invitation to invite even more illegals, which places a tremendous burden on towns who have to pay for and subsidize education, social services, medical expenses et. al.

This is a population of people who will gladly pay taxes in return for legal status, and who can have less access to benefits than citizens.

And please, please cut the BULLSH-T about "these people have broken our laws" and "they must be PUNISHED" and similiar crap. Oliver North is a FELON, and his Butt is bruised from the kissing it gets around here.

Terrorist threat pales in comparison
The threat of terrorism pales in comparison to the issue of illegal immigration.
The illegal aliens have learned from history, but apparently the politicians haven't. Reagan and the democratically controlled congress of the 80's granted amnesty to ~3 million illegal aliens. That sent a strong message: Live in the U.S. illegally long enough and you will be granted amnesty. Now 12 million illegals are here waiting on there turn to be granted amnesty. If the politicians grant these 12 million amnesty, that will send another strong message and next time we will be facing granting amnesty to 20 or 30 million illegals.
This has to be stopped now, or the social fabric of this country will be destroyed forever!!

Aiding and abetting unlawful acts
I am not one to allow the word 'guest' to be so misused as we have heard from so many politicians and others. If one KNOWINGLY allows a lawbreaker to escape the consequences of 'the Law' it is called 'aiding and abetting'.

However, a 'guest' is someone who is INVITED --BEFORE they become guilty of trespass laws. Just walking on another's property is not prosecuatble as trespassing UNLESS the trespasser refuses to leave.

I don't give a hangnail if they work for free, I don't want trespassers on my property once I have said "Leave". Of course, once upon a time, either I or one of my neighbors could pull out the shotgun and hold them until 'the law' arrived on the scene. Nowdays, anyone who does that -- especially if the trespasser is an illegal alien -- can get in deep trouble as some citizens have ALREADY discovered. It seems 'the law' and politicians overlook the meaning of the 4th Amendment when I feel threatened or insecure in my own home or on my own property.

Heck, if I scare, inconveninece, delay, impede or otherwise interfere with an illegal alien, I may very well have to give up my home to that lawbreaker. Trespassers, and particularly illegal aliens, use the property of another without permission AND without a warrant -- as REQUIRED by Amendment 4. Common sense should say that at least MY civil rights are being violated by the mere presence of a trespasser -- but who says common sense prevails when a buck is to be made or a vote is to be had?

From the first moment I was told to "Press '1' for English", I knew the trespassers were winning -- and would take over if their numbers increased even a tiny fraction of what it already has. For all the good I believe Ronald Rwagan did, I believe his 'humanity' was totally misguided with the first 'amnesty'. Misguided because he BELIEVED the 'rest of the story' -- about enforcement.

Many folks believe Darwin was right and that we 'evolved' from monkeys. It seems our politicians -- regardless of party -- are trying to reverse that theory by attempting to make monkeys out of US with some of their 'legislative priorities'.

The Constitution (and Bill of Rights) was designed and approved as protection 'for ourselves and our posterity' (according to the Preamble of both the Constitution and Bill of Rights). Well, I and WE are part of that 'posterity'. Now read the Preamble once more and ask if 'government' employees are or have been fully abiding by that stated INTENT and ask how well 'protected' FROM 'government' do you really feel.

What is it that politicians don't
What is it that politicians don't understand on this issue? They are listening to demonstrations by people who should not be in this country, and shutting out the people - and the people don't want an amnesty program that will balloon the immigration problem from the 12 to 20 Million now here, into a citizen problem of 70 or 80 million, based on the "immigration chain" - brothers, sisters, kids, their kids, mothers, fathers, etc. And where will they all go? To the welfare rolls, no doubt. To the emergency rooms. Our cities and services will be overwhelmed, and our taxes will have to increase "to lend a helping hand", as the politicians say.

Keep them out, and the problem goes away.

The Key for Me Is Sellout.
I have come full circle. I entered college in 1966 and during a long graduate education learned the meaning of the word "sellout." We high minded types were not going to "sellout" to corporations and the capitalist structure. Sometime in the late 1970's, my view of what "sellout" means changed dramatically. I transcended those particular blinders. Today, I am back in those blinders. Some Republican senators and representatives can only be viewed as sellouts. They have given up a fundamental principle, the rule of law, in exchange for low paid workers for their wealthy constituents. How low can you go? Republicans voters should make McCain, among others, pay for this travesty. This is the saddest day since 9/11. More is to come. The social issues will collapse. Iraq will collapse. Amnesty doesn't make the people it's designed for accountable for their actions. It creates incentive for more illegals to come into our country and take advantage of all our social programs.

Illegal law breakers
THE END OF THE GOP!!!!!

How to commit political suicide in one easy lesson. Start the bus the team is leaving without the coach or the other assistants.

Anybody that views this as less than amnesty is absolutely insane.

NATA Superhighway, North American Union, GOODBYE USA.

I would certainly like to know just who hold W's mortgage, which Mexican that is.

Deliver me.

No Amnesty
I just called the offices of my two senators (lott and Cochran) and said I want them to vote NO on amnesty.

If you don't know your senators telephone number, just call: 202-224-3121 annd ask for their offices.

Be polite but firm.

Try to be rational
I don't want amnesty. I hate illegal immigration and I'm not a big fan of immigratioin period. However, It does not make sense to try to seek out 12 million people, and then ship them out of the country.
I say stop the illegals comming over now. start deporting all the illegals who are cought commiting crimes, then worry about those who are living here contributing to the economy. You have to admit that some are contributing to the ecomnomy.
And severe repercussions to buisnesses who employ illegals.
But this bill does not grant citizenship, and it puts a felony on the illegal's record.
Do you really thing that allowing democrats to get elected will fix the problem. They'll grow government and give outright amnesty and if you think they wont you're a fool.

If the Republicans pass amnesty, they will no longer get my vote. It's as simple as that.

No to amnesty
The President's radio address of May 12th 2007 can be found at:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070512.html

He said:
"Fourth, we must resolve the status of millions of illegal immigrants who are here already, without amnesty and without animosity."

Note "without amnesty." The devil is in the details. Kennedy tried to sneak in amnesty before and is trying to do it again. The Republicans have no excuse in getting fooled. If they let this go, they are little better than the Democrats. If the President signs this, it will be no better than his father's going along with tax increases in response to Democratic "promises" to reduce spending. It is precisely this sort of "stuff" that keeps a half of the electorate at home saying "there's no difference between the parties."

Where's MY amnesty?
I wish I could withhold my taxes in protest since I'm not being represented in this and many other issues - but they withhold taxes from MY pay and make ME work to get some back.

Phone calls, emails, letters to senate/congress- all ignored. You vote for someone you think is conservative, he/she gets into office and POOF! They turn RINO on you.

I'm voting Tancredo this time around, whether he gets the nomination from the GOP or not. (I left the GOP this year and am now a registered Conservative, BTW.)He's the only guy that seems to have a solid voting record that reflects conservative values. He's been up front and active in his opposition to illegal immigration/amnesty long before anyone else(AND he's for a flat tax!)

I am SO angry right now, and I have no idea what action to take that will be effective or constructive. We need another tea party pretty badly right now. IF ANY OF YOU out there have ideas getting the message through to our "representatives" about this, one they can't ignore, let's hear them!

P.S.
p.s.-- Multiculturalism didn't make America great; unabashed Americanism and love of country made America great! There is no space in this country for hyphenated Americans!

Stop, stop, stop
Cease and decist, senate! Enforce the laws on the books we have, go after employers who knowingly employ illegals, deport as many as we can find ( don't give me that "it's impossible" line-- we put a man on the moon and split the atom and if we wanted to, we can send back a whole bunch of these lawbreakers ), immediately send back ALL illegals that are in our nation's prisons, and build a real fence/wall/border whether it's virtual or not that will actually stop the scum of the third world from coming into our great nation.
Your inaction is ruining the fabric of America.
These people are unskilled and don't give a crap about America and our history and culture. We don't want or need these dirtbags turning our nation into some Hispano crap hole.

No. No. No.
It's going to cost the GOP, if they refuse to listen to their grassroots constituency on this issue. The 'roots have made their feelings known, and still the power brokers in the party insist on going another way. TH has been a major enabler of the Amnesty Anyway Program, and they will join their fellow travelers in political purgatory if this deal goes through.

There is no principalled reason to advocate for the legalization of lawbreakers, and anyone who supports the notion is, by definition, unprincipalled. I cannot think of a principalled reason to continuing supporting unprincipalled people and organizations, and so when the deal is finally brokered I will move on to other pastures and parties.

Amnesty Bill
This bill is ludicrous. I think it was GW that said a while back that any immigration bill wouldn't provide amnesty. Rewarding illegals is criminal in itself. It's obvious that there are more AMERICANS against this than for. What happened to governance by and for the people instead of self-serving governance against the people? We're in for a long haul on this congressional cluster...
Mike writes: Thursday, May, 17, 2007 12:34 PM
Immigration Amnesty
If amnesty is given to illegal immigrants, America is sending a very clear message to every person in the world: It's OK to break our laws if you can get away with it for a certain period of time.

Democrat politicians are all for amnesty, because they know most illegals would vote democratic. These politicians know the severe problems that illegal immagration causes for most Americans, but what's best for democrat politicians trumps what's best for Americans.
Twas ever thus.

When politicians pretend compassion
Of course, any form of amnesty is nose thumbing and even 'giving the bird' to existing law -- which tells us how much some politicians think of 'the Law' that other politicians and possibly themselves, wrote.

A pervious President quibbled over the word "is" and this one and many other politicians try to tell us we have not been 'invaded' and yet by almost every definition we HAVE been and ARE BEING invaded. Even the synonym for 'invasion' is 'trespass' -- hence neither of these words could have changed meanings so much since the Constitution and Bill of Rights became ratified.

I do not believe trespassers or invaders should be 'rewarded' but far too many in our government are either deaf to our complaints or are just too arrogant and power hungry to listen.

"Illegal" means unlawful and no places in law have I read that excusing lawbreaking that has not been justly disciplined is right or even "Constitutional".

Sure, we have a 'statute of limitations' on many illegal acts, but crossing the border illegally is NOT the only law that has been broken. Just being here illegally is a current event -- ongoing -- and not justified simply because they got away with it for so long. A person who escapes custody or prison, even after years of 'good service' must still pay for their illegal act -- including escape.

Frankly, I believe we need to amend Amendment 14 to recognize as citizens only those whose parent or parents are citizens. I do not believe we should in any way allow anyone to be called a 'citizen of the United States' if their allegiance remains with the country, which they left.

And to add insult to injury, a group of illegals are now suing an employer who was raided for hiring them in the first place. The suit claims they were 'underpaid'. Although anyone who knowingly employs an illegal should be appropriately punished, I have no belief that the illegals should be allowed to do the punishing. How in blazes does an illegal alien deserve 'standing' in an American court other than to get deported or jailed?

Clearly, the inmates are running the asylum and want to grant 'standing' to any of their supporters -- illegal alien or citizen.
