Harold Ford On Democratic Christians v. Republican Christians, And Other Campaign '06 Adventures
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:36 PM

I kid you not.  GOP Christians fear the Lord, according to the incredible shrinking Harold Ford.  Democratic Christians love and fear the Lord:

My friend Lincoln Davis who chairs our campaign says there are, there’s one big difference between us and misfortunate Republicans when it comes to our faith: he said that Republicans fear the Lord; he said Democrats fear AND love the Lord.

Watch it for yourself.  (HT: Powerline which credited Instapundit, which means the political world has seen and absorbed the Ford pratfall.) I think Ford may easily capture the award for the most stunning display of incompetence in the closing two weeks of a senate campaign ever.  Other nominees are welcome, but I can't think of a series of missteps as dramatic as those Ford has committed.

Add to this Michael Fox's admission that he hasn't read the initiaitive he endorsed,  Michael Steele's clobbering of bland Ben Cardin on MTP and Debbie Stabenow attacking Michigan businesses that are actually creating jobs, and you get a very good day for the GOP, which is the opening of the very bad week for Dems.

Actually Michael J Fox made two mistakes
First, as you noted, Fox admitted that he had not read the Missouri amendment.

Second, Fox conceded what many in the pro embryonic stem cell research camp will not: that what we are talking about is sacrificing lives to extend others.

wait a minute....
Funny, this is the first I've heard of Alex P. Fox popping off about "banning" stem cell research in "mizzourah" while not having actually read the initiative. All I heard about was big meany Rush Limbaugh picking on a poor defenseless Hollywood multi multi millionaire, complete with a misty eyed katie couric in full oprah mode on the cbs evening news, there for alex in case he needed a hug.

How very odd- seems there might be some bias here, ya think?

The word Fear
I believe that if you ask Biblical scholars about the word "Fear" as it is used in the bible it is derived from a translation, either Greek or Hebrew, that means Love. In other words to fear the Lord is to love the Lord.

THE authority on "who loves God."
Harold Ford Jr.'s campaign manager is NOT the authority on who loves God. The Bible is. It states:
Jn 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Jn 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me
1 Jn 2:3 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments

Now ask youself "Who does a better job of keeping God's commandments?" 'Nuff said. The answer is obvious.

Fear Versus Faith
Fear is the absents of faith.

We should not confuse the word “fear” in the King James Version of the Bible when it is used as “trust” as in 1 Samuel 12:24 “Only fear (trust) the Lord, and serve him with truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.”

We are instructed to not be afraid of our circumstances in life. There will be a time of testing in every believers life. You will be placed in a situation to which there is no way out. Your faith will be tested. Read Job Chapters 1 and 2. Job is the classic example of Christian suffering. If a believer is not prepared for such testing he will become extremely afraid. If a believer is prepared, although he is suffering, he will remain oriented. He will understand what is going on around him and be able to counter the fiery darts of Satan by using his understanding of Gods promises and mixing it with his faith.

Don’t believe those who tell you that when you become a believer you will have no more problems. This is the time when Satan goes to work on you. In order to please God and live a victorious Christian life we must study Gods word and apply it to our lives.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

We trust God for the big thing, salvation, but yet we ignore him for the small things during our lifetime. We should not have fear because God provides everything we need.

“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things.” Romans 8:32.

When the testing comes down on you and you have no place to turn what will you do?
Will you cry and fall apart? Will you became depressed and disillusioned or will you turn over your problems to God and rest on the promises?

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour” 1 Peter 5:7&8.

There are many illustrations of faith recorded in the Bible:

The shepherd boy David said to the giant Goliath “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; I will smite thee; and take thy head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowl of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel and all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with the sword and the spear: for the battle is the Lords, and he will give you into our hands”

Normally, one would think that a person would be afraid of a 9 1/2 foot giant who had a huge spear and a sword but David believed the Lord and demonstrated his faith for everyone to see.

We may not have to face giants but we will surely face impossible situations during our lifetime. Jesus said “With men this is impossible but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26.

One of the most outstanding statements of faith came from Job. Job was a mature believer who trusted the Lord and walked with him daily. In fact, God and Satan had a conversation about Job. “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect (mature believer) and an upright man, one that feareth (trusts) God and escheweth (hates) evil?

God then allowed Satan to test Job. Satan took the lives of his seven sons and his three daughters, his great wealth, his home and eventually his health. Job was as miserable as a man could be but yet never cursed God. Job sat alone in the ashes of what use to be his house, his body covered with some type of painful skin cancers. He had lost everything. Satan had done everything that he could do to a human being to break his faith in God. Even Jobs wife told him to curse God and die but Job never lost his integrity before the Lord. He never cursed God with his lips. As he scraped himself with a piece of broken pottery he made one of the most amazing statements of faith in history.

“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him, but I will maintain my own ways before him…For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me” Job 13:15, 19: 25-27.

What will you do when a disaster strikes in your life? Will you trust the Lord? Do you really believe in him? Put him to the test. Cast your burdens upon the Lord. Pray and wait upon the Lord.

“For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. Deut. 20:4

“Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” Isa. 41:10
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee” Ps. 56:3

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Never stop trusting the Lord. No matter what happens, no matter how bad things seem to be, no matter how hopeless the situation is because your period of testing will end and you will be rewarded for your faith. Job was given more of everything than he had before. His health and wealth was restored. He had another seven sons and three daughters.

“And in the land there were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among the brethren. And after this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’sons even four generations. So, Job died being old and full of days.” Job 42:15-17.

We are tested to make us grow in spiritual maturity. This is important to God. David said “It is good for me that I have been afflicted that I might learn thy statutes…I know O Lord, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.” Ps. 119:71& 75.

We are in a tremendous battle between good and evil being waged here on earth. We live in the enemy’s territory and faith in the one true God is our only defense against the evil one.

Harold Ford Jr. is one of those
"frank ski" christians. These are the kind that party at the club; fornicate; get drunk and stoned; and then go to the Church on Sundays and Wednesdays and shout. They wear big shiny crosses and listen to filthy music as soon as they leave service. They have illegitimate children, are slothful, live off their relatives and are always on the lookout for "the hook-up". i know them. i live in the Cynthia McKinney district. I resent them because they give off the wrong impression and look not like Christians at all. One could not tell the difference between them and non-believers. Let us pray for them as we pray for ourselves.
