Busdriver: Segregationist or Pioneer for Diversity?

Lordy me.

Update: I should note that this busdriver story sounds really weird, and I'm holding out hope that there's some sort of explanation or exaggeration going on. If there isn't, the whole thing's a shame, and it's surely the exception to the rule in the South, even though everyone will be inclined to think otherwise.

Fascinating story, thank you for posting it. Getting a new bus driver is the very first thing they should do. Secondly, subpoena the video tape on the bus and find out what really happened. Do you think the bus driver might have a future in the democrat party? Perhaps taking Weird Al Frankins' radio gig?

The Bus Driver Story
I'm not sure there's racism here. My child attends elementary school in a suburb of a large southern city, and an oddity I haven't seen elsewhere is that children on her bus do indeed have assigned seats that they are required to sit in. I don't think the drivers even make the seat assignments, but they are required to enforce them.

It is so astounding that not one of you get it! This is just another example of "Rosa Parks" revisited. The only thing I don't understand is how a white(y) busdriver commands so much respect, that any child, let alone (nine) children of any color would allow themselves to be ordered to occupy just two seats. It IS understandable that a black busdriver might be more preferable to both (black children and parents) because of previously accustomed racial favoritism.

It is clearly a stupid and racist act...
but even as a lefty libertiarian, I can't draw a broader conclusion than this: It's really, really freakin' HARD to find bus drivers that are non-insane. It's a job that often goes begging, because the pay sucks and the working conditions - tell me, did YOU ever ride the bus? Then you know what I mean....
