'Peace' Advocates Vandalize Cars at Army Recruiting Station
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 12:42 PM

Yep, folks, this is my hometown area once again. Down here in the Triangle, we support the justice system by dragging innocent young men with solid alibis through a year-long rape case while hiding exculpatory evidence. And, we support the troops with cans of spray paint!

Police charged five protesters on Friday during the second demonstration in a month outside the new Army recruiting station.

"We thought it was important to not have this recruiting station open quietly," said Emily McFarlane, a UNC-Chapel Hill junior who helped organize the protest at the Army Career Center, 1502 E. Franklin St.

Quiet is was not:

In addition to the protests, two government cars parked outside the recruiting station were vandalized with spray painted messages, "Go home!" on one and "Not welcome!" on the other.

"Go home," troops that we totally support. You're "not welcome," good men and women of the armed services, whose service we appreciate so sincerely even though we don't necessarily support your mission in Iraq. Riiight. Tell me more about it.

And, the Chamber of Commerce, which holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony for any new member that requests it, wussed out of this one, citing safety concerns posed by thuggish lefties.

The troops can face down IEDs in Iraq, but the Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce can't handle a handful of SDSers and "Raging Grannies" to come out and show support for them? Lame.

Of course, it's not as it campus lefties have a reputation for utterly "peaceful" protests, but a bit of backbone in the face of these thugs would be much appreciated and much applauded by the mostly silent majority of sane people in the Triangle.

Luckily someone had some backbone. Check out the classy side of this protest:

Veteran Al Meyer, 86, came from his home in Hillsborough to support the new station.

"I just wanted to let [the protesters] know there are other people around who don't share their opinion," said Meyer, who served for eight years in the Mighty Eighth Air Corps in England.

"There are so many nations that don't like us anymore," he said. "We've got to be strong and take actions people don't like, and make sure we still have a good ol' USA."

I think I may take some cookies over to Franklin Street while I'm home for Christmas. I'm sure the folks working in those recruiting centers would be glad to find that there are many people in the Triangle who think they're more than welcome in our town.

Chapel Hill anti-troops flashback, courtesy of Michelle Malkin. The newspaper didn't run any pictures of this most recent vandalism. Anyone back home got pictures? Send them along if you do.

And, people wonder how I became conservative. Sheesh.

Disgusting
I am disgusted to see this kind of thing. Free speech is welcomed only if you are a fellow pod. Otherwise hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!
(Donald Sutherland with extended finger pointing at a non-pod).

I was not surprised to see this happen at UNC Chapel Hill... moonbattery is their middle name (sorry, but it is). But to see the same kind of moonbattery at NC State (in link to MichelleMalkin.com) back in April was really telling. The NCSU Design school folks probably had a few extra minutes between bong hits and binge drinking to visit the Reserve Offices and the Dept of Military Science. But even they should have more respect (if not for the military, then for historic Reynolds Colliseum... home to NCAA basketball champions in 1974 and 1983). Come to think of it, it was probably done by Carolina moonbats.

Slight adjustment, seeing as we're talking leftist pods:

I was in ROTC during the late 70s. Not a great time then either. These people are Clueless about who takes care of them.

The best cookies I ever had ...
... were from someone I barely knew who "just wanted to thank That nice Airman who was so helpful the other day." That was October of '71 and I still remember how good they were. Don't forget what you said you were going to do.

I served!
Sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach to think that I actually signed up to protect the rights of these idiots. But then some of us do, because the others don't have a clue how-to!

You might drop off some cookies to Mr. Meyer as well. Not only for his own military service, but to let him know that the fact that he still stands up for what's right is greatly appreciated. The best people never forget that.

Thanks to our military and veterans!
I think I was subject to the same kind of propaganda that some of these folks are suffering from... I didn't serve in the military because I was supposed to be doing some really important work like selling appliances at Sears or the many other jobs I had before getting onto a semblance of a 'career path' after getting my degree. Once the idea of going into the military (at least reserves), I had a family and I was too old to be considered. For this, I regret that I didn't become more conservative earlier on.

Thank you to our military, may God hold you in his arms and protect you and your families from all evil in this world. Please know the sacrifices you make today are greatly appreciated by me and so many millions of others.

On the bright side...
Sometimes I regret that I have a degree from Chapel Hill. However, I cheer up quickly by reminding myself that it's not from Berkeley, Madison, or Cambridge.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND OUR MILITARY
Sometimes I forget that there are idiots in this world and then bam, every second of the day it seams as though I am reminded by their wonderful contributions to our blogs and the way they make it so easy for us to just let them do the work since they dig their own holes so well. Wonderful statement that they make towards our troops, they should be ashamed!

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

SUPPORT OUR MILITARY!

Peaceful Liberals, what a joke......
Peace Advocates . YOu must be right, they are a real representation of the socialistic left. What is good for them is ok but nothing is good for the "rest of uys.
I do not under5stand houw people can follow so blindly. Then I think bact to WWII and realize many followed Hitler and Stalin.
When they get to a point they have everything handed to them on a gold plate, and there is not enough to fill the plate because so many have their hand out, I know "my God shall supply all my need according to his riches in glory.
This seems UN AMERICAN and someday us nice folks may have to take to the streets ourself.

Riots at Recruiting Station
Can you publish contact information for UNC-Chaple Hill and the Chaple Hill Chamber of Commerce. We need to express the gross embarassment they have caused the rest of us that live in North Carolina. We should also express our disgust with the actions of caving in to these social thugs. Or maybe they would prefer to live in a Dhimmi status under Shariah law. Do they have their prayer rug ready?

It is bad enough we have to suffer the indignity of the curious handling of the Duke LaCrosse Rape case by Mike Niphong now we have to contend with the ridicule caused by these nut cases.

Give 'em a whiff of grapeshot. I'm sure they'll find protesting suddenly isn't that important. Not like we'll be losing anyone who isn't an oxygen thief anyway....

"And, people wonder how I became conservative. Sheesh."

Well, ma'am. No matter how you became one, we're awful pleased to have you on our side.

Press on, gents. Don't let the protesters get you down.

PS, The Chamber of Commerce can change its name to the Chamber of Cowardice, as far as I'm concerned.

Spoiled rotten kids
I teach these Milk Toast "clueless" college kids. Not all of them are misguided, like the ones who vandalized the recruitement center. Hopefully they will be held accountable for the damage and have their parents write a check for the clean up....oh! and publish their names in the paper.

Protesting students parasites of society
The very same parental and governmental financial burdens (students) who are protesting the Army recruiting station will be eventually in charge of the country's security and safety.

Are not these protesting parasites of society supposed to be in class fulfilling the requirements of their student loans from the very government of whom they are protesting.

Typical Liberal always standing in line to receive their government handout but when they have the student loan check in their grubby little paws, all of a sudden they're raising their little pudgy paws into the air as the rage against the man.

The easy way to cure this affliction is to yank the student loans of these protesting nabobs and the other protesting liberal lemmings will fall quietly into line like the good little zombies that they are because none of them really stand for anything other than what their zombie handlers tell them to do.

I expect no less from Chapel Hill
I can't say I'm surprised at anything the raving moonbats pull in Chapel Hill. The whole freaking town is so far left it actually leans. Okay, maybe not that bad, but I'm an NCSU alum, so I gotta pick on 'em a little bit.

Seriously, those jokers need to pay for what they did. Hit 'em where it hurts, right in their wallets. They might think twice (or actually think, period) before pulling that crap again.
