Huckabee on McCain: "You're Not Seeing the Kind of Energy That You Would Hope to Have ..."
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 2:21 PM

Dwayne Horner, News Talk 660 KSKY in Dallas and Townhall blog contributor, caught up with Governor Mike Huckabee at a polling place in Dallas, TX this morning.

Listen here.

Of note, Huckabee implied that McCain isn't going to excite conservatives:

... That's my point. Is that some are not saying 'Boy you know of all the guys running for President he is exactly I was always hoping would be the nominee' -- but they're saying it looks like he is going to be the nominee so let's go ahead and just line up. You're not seeing the kind of energy that you would hope to have, that's what I am talking about. Republicans need to be energetic and show a real passion and that's how we win elections, when we have the foot soldiers.

He also said that McCain faces public financing issues that Huckabee wouldn't have to deal with ...

One issue Senator McCain has to face is that he may be at a point where he can't spend any money until September. And the Republicans need to ask themselves how good is it to have a candidate that has to go dark and completely disappear from the stage for the next six months? -- that would be very problematic. I am not in that position, I can campaign every single day, I don't have those imitations.

I take GREAT PLEASURE in the fact that -- as of 03-05-08 -- Mitt Romney STILL has more delegates than Mike Huckabee, and Mitt's been out of the race for over a month now. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Huckabee true believer
I really am not thrilled with Huckabee and felt that he should have gone long before now. I felt that he only stayed in for his own political gain (if possible). Either he was positioning to become the voice of the hard core Evangelical Right or he was hoping to broaden his base for a future run (probably both).

If Huckabee runs again he will have the same effect he had this time. He will split the social conservative vote and elect a moderate.

I think as a politician Huckabee is a crass opportunist but then most politicians are.

However, I will give Huckabee one thing. I do feel that he is a true believer in his religion and his understanding of Christianity. I think he actually does have a strong genuine belief in Christ even though I disagree with some of his doctrines.

About what? The issue of forcing the Boy Scouts to retain open homosexual scoutmasters?

Perry vs. Romney

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, has written a book about the Boy Scouts, and he includes a less-than-flattering story about Mitt Romney, suggesting that the Republican presidential hopeful bowed to the homosexual rights lobby during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

==
"The ACLU's 'fingerprints' aren't on every effort to deny the Boy Scouts access to public facilities and events, though chances are they cheer when kindred groups initiate such efforts. Take the case of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In the planning stages, when it was faltering financially, Mitt Romney stepped in as president and chief executive officer. He soon straightened things out and set plans in motion to make it a success.

"In 2000 he put out a published call for volunteers ... The Great Salt Lake Council of the BSA, the largest in the nation, with some 80,000 Scouts and 35,000 adult leaders, answered Romney's call for volunteers."

"Some time that fall, however, the Scouts were advised that they were no longer welcome to participate. Chief Scout Executive for the Council, Marty Latimer said, 'We don't understand what's wrong. They just don't want us and won't talk to us.' He said that Romney had not returned calls from several Scout executives seeking an explanation. The Council's President R. Lawry Hunsaker expressed surprise that Romney had ignored Scout leaders for he had once been a Scout and a Scout leader himself. 'We can't get him to return our calls.' "

I have made the decision to vote for Governor Mike Huckabee on the basis of research into actual records -- rather than empty campaign double-talk. Alone among the frontrunners, his record is conservative on the most fundamental issues. I will go even further: examining _records_ proves that when $100 million dollars of GOP campaign propaganda is set aside, Mike Huckabee is the only real across-the-board (social and fiscal) conservative among the three front runners.

Mitt Romney is not only __not__ a conservative on any issue, he's _not even on the left-right spectrum_. He has no beliefs. No principles. No backbone. No soul. He is a soulless creature who will do and say anything to get elected.

Romney also continued Weld’s tradition of appointing openly gay people to key positions in his administration. One of his first cabinet appointments was Daniel Grabauskas, who Romney chose to serve in his cabinet as secretary of the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction.

The new governor’s transition team also included several openly gay people, including Grabauskas, former lieutenant governor candidate and current president of the national Log Cabin Republicans Patrick Guerriero, and former Mass. Log Cabin president Mark Goshko.

Other gay Romney appointees include John Wagner, commissioner of the state welfare department, Mitchell Adams, executive director of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, and Jonathan Spampinato, a member of Romney’s Diversity and Equal Opportunity Council. Two out lesbian appointees were fired by the governor shortly after getting legally married to their same-sex partners: Ardith Wieworka, former commissioner of Child Care Services, who was let go last summer, and Katherine Abbott, former commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, who was asked to resign last month after her department was blamed for not adequately clearing sidewalks
==
He [Romney] offered political and financial support to two openly gay Republican candidates for state representative in 2004, Richard Babson in the Eighth Suffolk District and Michael Motzkin of the Ninth Essex District, who both lost. Both candidates were promoted as part of the Romney Reform Team.

The West Virginia delegates were unfairly channeled away from Gov Romney because he was the only real threat to Sen McCain.

When we are done doing the math, I will transfer the WV delegates back to Gov Romney.

Pronouncing that I finished second will ring HOLLOW!

It is not a crime to spend own money on a campaign, it is called putting your money where your mouth is. He is spending his well earned money to improve our lives. I admire that.

Where to start? I know the "real" Huckabee. I heard his say these things with my own ears:

"We need wingtips in Iraq."

"I will be profoundly grateful for any tax."

"We broke something in Iraq."

"I majored in miracles, not math."

He compared himself to Jesus feeding the 5000 and David slaying Goliath. He called himself "Christian Leader" in his ad, he lied about the floating cross. He said he knew nothing about Mormonism when in fact he was a key note speaker at an anti-Mormon convention.
He lied about his question to the NYT reporter calling it innocent. He lied about his fakeout negative ad on Romney. He gave government posts to donors. He stole furniture from the Governor's Mansion which had to be returned. He registered for "wedding gifts" to get around donation laws. He lied about his role in the pardon of DuMond who went on to rape and kill. He pressured law enforcement to drop the investigation of his son's dog murder. He said taxes = hope, for crying out loud!

He changed his position on immigration as late as Nov/Dec. Before that he was very pro-illegal immigration. He used A LOT of hate-the-rich rhetoric in his campaign. He has a big government, liberal record. He is not a conservative on much. Certainly not enough to be called by the name.

These are not RNC talking points! LOL. It's his record. Huckabee supporters have their eyes and ears closed on purpose. This man has no moral fiber. He will say and do anything.

But people play the blame game and blame Huckabee for knocking their guy out. Well, when you spend money like Romney did (2x as much as McCain, 10x as much as Huck) & don't have much to show for it, common sense takes over. Huckabee's message was better. I just realized who Huck MOST reminds me of! The similarities are to obvious to ignore:

(From Wiki)

"Bryan was a devout Presbyterian, a strong proponent of popular democracy, an outspoken critic of banks and railroads, a leader of the silverite movement in the 1890s, a dominant figure in the Democratic Party, a peace advocate, a prohibitionist, an opponent of Darwinism, and one of the most prominent leaders of Populism in late 19th- and early 20th century America. He was called 'The Great Commoner' because of his total faith in the goodness and rightness of the common people."

Fits Huck to a T.

I challenge PC and MaineConservative to find fault in Huckabee's stand on issues (located here http://my.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home).

Has there been a Huckabee/McCain debate? My guy has been/continues to be willing... What about McCain? The truth is that other candidates fear Huckabee in a debate because he the best communicator with the most common sense of all candidates.

The truth is that this whole primary is a misguided joke. MSM sucked oxygen out of the Huckabee campaign by focusing two questions at Huck (1) religion and (2) why haven't you quit yet. If this were a real election there would be a vibrant discussion of the issues not the complete absence of discussion of relevant issues.

By the way, the Fair Tax... it rocks! There is probably no greater idea that will have as positive impact as the fair tax (and abolishment of the IRS) would.

First of all, there is NO WAY IN HELL Condi Rice would seriously consider running as McCain's junior. She has repeatedly expressed her disinterest in electoral politics (and she is one of the few Washington politicians I take at their word). However, she would make an EXCELLENT POTUS, if she were interested. But she is not.

Also, McCain's supporters have conveniently forgotten how McCain has repeatedly, publicly, and HARSHLY criticized Sec. Rice in recent years. He certainly has NOT done her any favors.

All of this VP talk only shows how desperate McCain and his supporters are now that he's the GOP's presumptive nominee. Next time, pick a better candidate. That way you won't have to go looking for a popular VP who can win you the election. The short-sightedness is astounding.

MaineConservative,

You may recall that like you, I was supporting Romney in the primaries.

However, in a general election, the paradigm CHANGES from a choice between McCain VS a more conservative candidate (i.e. Romney) to a choice between McCain VS a radical left wing nut (Obama) who will be a shrinking violet against Islamic Jihad, and who will appoint left wing nuts to the Supreme Court.

John McCain may not be a conservative's dream, but he is the best available choice to us this November.
On the other hand, Obama IS a radical lefty's dream candidate.

McCain's Amnesty is end of Republican control of Congress or the Presidency.

McCain's Amnesty would give 12 to 20 million POOR illegal invaders the right to vote.

Then these 20 million POOR illegal invaders will turn around and vote 80 to 90% for Democrats.

Then there will never be another Republican President or Republican majority Congress for the rest of our LIVES.

The ONLY way to stop this is to ignore McCain and spend our time and money on electing MORE Conservative Republicans in both the US House and Senate races this year.

For me it is fun to watch and see how God's purpose will be accomplished in spite of all the Democratic machinations and the pain of the leftist press. I had complete peace all through the Florida bruhaha in 2000 when I saw God's intention for Bush. I have the same peace about Mike Huckabee and so does he, I think. In this he may be right. Because of the socialist tendancies of Obama, Republicans, at the end of the day will probably vote for McCain rather than turn the oval office over to Obama.

Condi will add nothing to the ticket. I used to really like her until she became Secretary of State and turned into Madeleine Allbright. What ever happened to the Bush Doctrine? It didn't even survive his own presidency.

I like the sound of that
"how good is it to have a candidate that has to go dark and completely disappear from the stage for the next six months?"

Good? Hell, it'd be great if John Hussein McCain would completely disappear.

Condi Rice will excite the McCain ticket
Mr. Huckabee is not going to bring anything to the Republican ticket. He will not be Vice president, and I doubt he will get a Cabinet post as well.

Now, if the issue is who will excite the McCain ticket, then I think the words of Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention speak louder than any discussion on who would be the best VP.

Dr. Richard Land called Sec. Condi...."one of the most impressive human beings that Americans will ever meet," He is president of the Southern Baptist ConventionsEthics & Religious Liberty Commission. On the Charlie Rose show, Dr. Land suggested Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's name as a potential vice president for McCain.

"If Sen. McCain were to ask me who he should pick as a running mate, I would say, 'Senator, do you really want to win?' and I guess he would say, 'Yes,' and I would say, 'Then you need to do whatever it takes to get Condoleezza Rice on the ticket with you, because you're going to be running against a tide of either the first woman president or the first African American president, and the best way to break that tide is to have as your running mate the first woman African American vice president'."

If McCain picks Condi, then Dr. Land deserves much of the credit as a conservative who believes Condi offers a way to winning the White House.

All Valid Points.
Not a Huck fan either, but he is CORRECT on these points.

McCain does not motivate, energize, or inspire. But, it appears we are stuck with the man as our "preumptive nominee." Most Republicans have tuned out. Unlike Romney, McCain is too stubborn and hellbent on being POTUS to recognize his candidacy at THIS moment in U.S. history is NOT what the doctor ordered. I have a difficult time seeing a positive end to any of this.

mcCon will be saved by Republican judges
In election disputes, the winner is predictably dictated by the party that put the judge into office.
