Bernie Madoff Gets 150 Years

Madoff, who scammed hundreds of investors out of tens of billions of dollars in a massive Ponzi scheme, was sentenced to 150 years behind bars by a New York District Court. The disgraced financier said he "will live with this pain, this torment, for the rest of my life," and that "I dug myself deeper into a hole," from which he was unable to escape.
The total amount that Madoff stole is unknown, but investigators have so far uncovered $65 billion in losses, which disproportionately affected Jewish investors. The courtroom applauded when the sentence was handed down - a sentence several times as severe as those doled out to convicted CEO's of Enron Corp. and WorldCom Inc. His wife, Ruth, is expected to make a statement later today.

First off, I would not have been so greedy and stupid as well. My parents brought me up thusly:
"If it sounds too good to be true... then it is too good to be true!"
However, how does this silly sentence have anything to do with reality? This just goes to show just where most everyone's heart is:
MONEY!
We treat our child rapists, murderers, wife beaters much better!
This sentence does not send the 'message'. There were people doing it before Madoff and are doing it as we speak and will continue to do the Ponzi scheme... and I agree that FDR should have been charged had he lived. The Socialist Security System is a joke.
And we have another FDR wannabe, Obama and fiends, that are boondoggling us on Crap & Trade; Canadian Style Health Care.
We will soon be saying: where have the doctors gone? And, thinking: "Why is my only choice of a doctor a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine??!!

Geesh, this kinda lays a BIG TURD right at your feet. I mean, this Jewish jerk targets investors---not goyem, but, mostly Jewish investors, who disproportionately suffer losses.
I mean, if the Jews controlled the finance sector as some bigots here attempt to make a case for----where was the protection for all of these Jews who lost UNTOLD billions?
Oh yeah-----and if Jews only look out for their own----as postulated by some on these boards, how is it that Bernie Madoff focused primarily on the wealth of Jews.....as well as many Jewish foundations and charities which do alot of work in the Jewish community?

As for Madoff, I'd give him a month off the sentence for every $1 million he helps recover. 1800 months in jail, x $1 million, that would go a long way to getting out sooner.

I have no sympathy for Madoff. I have no sympathy for the so-called "victims" either.
Here's why...
Madoff's scheme was aimed at sophisticated and accredited investors. Sophisticated and accredited are not used as adjectives here; they are legal terms to describe the class of investor involved here. They fall outside the scope of the SEC because they are so classed, and are supposed to be smart enough to acknowledge what Madoff was doing and to avoid it.
They knew what Madoff was cooking; they saw the numbers of his investments, and lined up to have his approval in that exclusive club. Any investor worth his/her salt could see that Madoff's numbers were as contrarian as it gets.
The scheme went on so long because had Madoff targeted non-sophisticates, the SEC would have been able to clamp down long ago.
They all got what they deserved. Just like regular investors who make bad decisions with their choices and fail with proper due diligence.
They get no sympathy.

...and I hope it's without any possibility of parole. He should have gotten 150 year at hard labor. The scumbag deserves no sympathy from anyone.
I also hope that his victims go after Madoff's family and relatives to recoup some, at least, of their losses. From the news stories, before his arrest he siphoned off the money to them anyway. And if he did, then his family is just as guilty as he is and should be in jail with him. |

I was reading earlier today, the only reason Madoff got 150 years is because the vast majority of folks he ripped off were left leaning pinko organizations such as ACORN and various pinko leaning foundations.
Very likely had the majority of the folks who lost their money had been folks such as the Heritage Foundation, NRA, National Right To Life etc. we likely wouldn't even have heard the final disposition, except that it was tossed out of court for lack of evidence. |

Old Bernie got a longer sentence than the jerk who murdered my father. He got 20 years and was out in 8. He ended up committing additional violent crimes, going back to prison, getting out again. He later got arrested for a burglary. He's back in prison again. This all occurred in Texas. I have no problem putting Bernie away forever, but we have a very strange sense of justice when murders get relatively short sentences and financial criminals get 150 years. |

Back when I got my annual statement, after the 2008 election. I asked them where my money is.

So, my home value has dropped more than 60% in the last 2 years. My kids' college funds have lost half their value. My private retirement fund is now worth less than I have paid into it!
Some people lost money because they invested with Madoff? What about the rest of us? Is somebody going to lock up Congress? I didn't think so.
Somehow, the Madoff "victims" garner more sympathy than 300 million other people, and it is easier to focus anger on something, when you can put a name and a face on it. Don't get me wrong--I certainly sympathize with those people who invested in a scam--all 300million of them.
