Bush to Speak on Saddam Verdict
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 2:14 PM

"This is a good day for Iraq," is supposed to be the line.

"Saddam Hussein's trial is a milestone in the Iraqi people's effort to replace the rule of a tyrant with the rule of law," Bush told reporters in Waco as he left for Nebraska and Kansas to campaign for Republican candidates.

"It is a major achievement for Iraq's young democracy and its constitutional government," he said.

And, everyone knows a "good day for Iraq" is a bad day for Democrats. It's an unfortunate position to be in, for them. To wit, I just watched Dem Claire McCaskill on Fox saying, "It's a positive thing that Saddam was sentenced to death. Justice has been done for his victims, and I support its being carried out, but..."

See? Unfortunate that she has to tack a "but" on there.

Video of Bush's remarks, here.

Ace is tracking the media take on this.

The judge in the Saddam trial calls Ramsey Clarke "a mockery."

DU: "We need Saddam alive to testify at Bush's war crimes trial."

Video: Saddam's reaction, "Allahu Akbar!"

Via Allah, a photo essay on the massacre at Dujail, for which Saddam was convicted this morning.

Update: The U.N. still not in favor of punishing Saddam. Surprise.

I love your post Mary
Some suggest Bush timed this in time for the election. You know what ? That statement exposes the Dems hypocrocy like nothin I have ever seen. They are admitting that if we catch a terrorist,or bring one to justice that it helps the Republicans. They are admitting that their plan is wrong.

They are so against the war they should be glad Iraq is in the news. They love it when soldiers die.Byden made a comment today about a special place in hell for Saddam, but its funny,he has spoke more ill about our persident than he ever has any terrorist.hypocrites.If dems really believed they had the right plan for beating terrorist then they would not be saying Saddam being brought to justice was bad. They should be happy for the USA,but they cant.things are good for the country are bad for them polically

Heh
I have no doubt that the Iraqi government timed this story to get out just prior to our elections. Who can blame them? They know a Democrat takeover of our government means we'll be leaving their new government hanging high and dry as soon as possible. Obviously they want us to stay and continue to help them stabilize the country.

Listen to Saddam
Come election day American voters ought to remember that these two words, "Allahu Akbar," were exactly those that the two pilots had on their lips when they crashed two airplanes into the skyscrapers on a sunny September day in 2001.

Uncoincidentally, the very same invocation you could hear in more than 95% of all terrorist acts in the past 5 years. However, I've never heard the Muslim store owner around the corner utter them, and it's certainly not something that a Muslim faithful "just happens to use every now and then."

In fact, in any battle-field, be it a theater of war or a court, it is being perused as a battle-cry of those who're united to destroy the West.

By saying these two words Saddam, actually, did America a great favor: He made it perfectly clear that he was always with the terrorists.
