Obama Picks Cliff the Mailman
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:23 AM

As David Freddoso noted in his book, Obama represents the merger of two of the worst aspects of Democratic politics --'60s radicalism and corrupt Chicago machine politics.  With the addition of Slow Joe Biden to the ticket, Obama has added to his unsteady candidacy an epic amount Beltway cluelessness and arrogance unsupported by anything except frequent flier miles and Delaware's love for a chuckle-headed fellow with a big smile.

Rob Long asks "Isn't [Biden] sort of the stupid person's idea of the smart person's candidate?"  Yes, he is.  But that's not fair to stupid people.  Even stupid people who watched Biden embarrass himself during the Alito hearings --remember the "I hate Princeton" moment followed by the donning of the Princeton cap?-- know that Slow Joe is all tenure and no talent.

I was worried that the Dems had pointed out to Obama that his serial gaffing had brought the campaign close to a break point and that he needed Hillary.  I was worried he'd actually go find Anthony Zinni or Sam Nunn or someone of accomplishment and purposefulness in foreign affairs.  Webb would have been hell on the stump.  Kaine or Bayh would have put different states into play.  Sebelius was a wild card.

But Biden?  Marooned in Marin has a collection of Biden's greatest hits, which barely scratches the surface of the buffoonery Biden has produced over the years, and we'll be getting the audio ready for next week and the next two months.  See also XDA's assessment:  "That locks down the important swing state of Delaware and puts the combined fatuous egotism of the ticket into overload territory." Geraghty the Indispensable has a list of choice Slow Joe quotes as well.

But put Biden's obvious flaws aside and ask yourself how in the world Obama decided to go with Biden, and you'll quickly realize that the Democratic nominee must have been impressed with Biden on the long campaign trail of 2007 and 2008 --even though voters weren't and even though Biden has no accomplishments of note after 36 years in the Senate.  Biden talked a great game and dropped some very interesting place names --and this impressed Obama.  Talking the talk has been the key to Obama's success, and in Slow Joe he found an older, far better traveled but equally prolix gas bag.

You want the counter argument: Read David Brooks, which Obama almost certainly did.  But as a product of one of those towns in the industrial midwest full of Catholics and tough stories of the sort Brooks retails, I shake my head at the idea of a 36 year veteran of the Beltway who is down-the-line-liberal building a bridge to the old neighborhood.   (And Dems have again got to face the problem of a hard-line abortion rights advocate explaining how this doesn't conflict with his Catholic faith.  Archbishop Chaput's new book, Render Unto Caesar, is required reading on this suddenly central-again subject.  My interview with the archbishop from Tuesday is transcribed here.)

Obama had another terrible week.  His paean to the Chinese (he praised their "vastly superior" infrastructure on Thursday) his baffling equation of Russia's rape of Georgia with America's overthrow of Saddam, the new focus on his vote against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, his close ties with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko --all these things crowded in on him as he ran out of time to make a crucial decision.  Pushed to the wall, he picked an empty suit like himself, a nice enough fellow who has done one thing well in his entire life, which is win elections in Delaware.

For Obama, it is all about politics and words, elections and poses.  Slow Joe is the perfect running mate on a perfect ticket for a party betting on wind to solve the energy crisis.

Neo-Soviet Politburo Amerikan Style
Obamma, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid....these names just have sort of a reddish/marxist governing style. (all 4 against drilling for oil versus over 200 million Americans who would like lower gas prices and would love some local drillin' and refinin'.) Comrade Pelosi won't allow a rightful up or down vote (marxist politburo technique. It's not what the people want, but the few elites in the Mighty Government Kindom who say they know best.) Incredible....

Yes Mitt...no,no..sarah
Palin is a populist, NOT a conservative. Sorry, as nice as Sarah is, she is definitely not in Mitt Romney's league. Mitt is conservative (at least now he is), VERY SMART, amazing business mind, and articulate. Excellent speaker and communicator ! (like the master Reagan) and unlike that blow-hard showboat Biden, Romney has actually taken action and accomplished many impressive things. Biden likes to hear himself talk....very annoying.

Biden?
Picking Biden is more evidence there is a God.

Objectively speaking what does Biden bring to the ticket...nothing...

He brings no money.

He doesn’t bring any states and electoral votes

He doesn’t bring a reputation for honesty and integrity (his plagiarism inflated resume, etc.)

He can’t really control his mouth.

His foreign policy experience is more “arm chair quarter back” than real.

He is boring.

It is clear that no one of quality wanted to play with Obama on the ticket...all the smart and qualified Democrats (there are not many) said no way.

So, since time was running out, the Obama campaign went a bought a very nice mirror and set it out front of the capital...and in seconds Biden appeared. What a choice.

The election is McCain’s to lose.

All McCain has to do to win is keep up the aggressive campaign and pick a pro-life, conservative VP.
I am RIGHT writes: Sunday, August, 24, 2008 9:34 PM
pro-life
It is about time that all Christians (Catholics, Evangelical, etc.) who vote Democrat snap out of their strange delusion and realize the following: A person can not be a Christian and support a pro-choice candidate...when there is a pro-life option.

The Democrat party is now the Socialist "statist" party...trying to place themselves in place of God.

Hewitt didn't make Biden look foolish
Biden has done that for himself. The Alito hearing is just one of many. Go back to what he did to Clarence Thomas in the Judiciary Committee hearings, and how the libs don't think he did enough to defend Anita Hill. Then try on his stupid racist comment (I think I have the quote right) "I think that the only reason Clarence Thomas is on the Court is because he is black. I don't believe he could have won had he been white. And the reason is, I think it was a cynical ploy by President Bush."

So now he's running as VP with the candidate who has as his only credential that he is black; every other statement he has made (uniter, changer, etc) can be shown to be a lie by his record. Liberals, keep on drinking the Kool-Aid (oops, there was a lady on Hannity who said that was a racist comment because blacks drink Kool-Aid).

what a lame column by the prince of lameness, Hugh Hewitt.

Obama's campaign finally does something right. Biden's going to be a formidable contender, and Hughie knows it. so he wants to make Biden look foolish. not gonna work.

Joe Biden is probably the ONLY VP candidate that would have made me, a former Hillary supporter, 100% certain to vote Democratic this year. and I don't think I'm alone.

McCain still has a chance if he wises up and picks a pro-choice VP to run with. but since conservatives will not let him do that, I think this is the beginning of the end for him.

I am not a big Biden for President fan, but of all the Dems he is the least offensive. The problem for Obama is Obama. Does Obama remember how many people he has thrown under the bus?

Let's count:

Grandma "a typical white woman"
Kenya Bro Bama
Jeremiah Wright
Father Pfleger
Bill Ayers
Hillary Clinton

I am sure you can all remember more.

It's the VP Slot
Come on. The first concern of the VP selection is "do no harm." Only time shall tell. The VP has only two duties ... Preside over the Senate (He's not allowed t debate) and be at hand should he need to fill the office of the President.
The choice of VP is more important for Senator Mc Cain. But frankly considering his campaign schedule I doubt if anyone fence sitting would be seriously concerned about the Senator's Health.
Senator Obama still has the problem of an inverted ticket. It would have been difficult for him not to find someone with a thiner Re'sume' who would not upstage him.

I think McCain should criticize Obama's plan to pre-announce his VP choice to a select group of people. McCain should counter with his plan to announce the VP choice to all of the American people at the same time. No special treatment for a special group. And make it clear that it's the VP candidate for the American people as opposed to Obama's vp.

I think you are concerned unnecessarily about the 'Catholic' vote going to Obama. I don't see any reason for CINO's to be any more inclined to vote for Obama with Biden on the ticket than they would be otherwise. If someone is Pro-Choice, whether Obama picks a CINO or any other denomination candidate who is Pro Choice, it seems like they would be voting for him anyway, IMO.

"In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions."

Yes, "being inexperienced in office and on foreign policy" is "defying political conventions" for becoming president of the U.S.

I guess the AP idea of hope and change, would be to have two people in the white house who were "inexperienced in office and on foreign policy".

"After all, Biden is anything but a change agent, having been in office longer than half of all Americans have been alive. Longer than McCain."

Again, AP says a "change agent" is someone without experience.

"And he talks too much."

AP also doesn't like people who talk a lot.

Or softly lightens o'er his face;

It is quite amazing
that BO and Slow Joe have exactly ZERO experience in the administration or operation of ANYTHING. Not even shift management at McDonald's between them.

The electorate is now supposed to consider them for administering the Executive branch of our $3 trillion federal government.

Gee, what' wrong with this picture?

Well, that was worth the wait!
Hugh's right - this has been a very bad week for The One.

Also like Hugh, I was starting to worry a bit that with all the torpedo and bomb hits that the Bismarck, I mean, the good ship Obambi, was taking, he might panic and choose the one veep who could actually make it a race - i.e., the Broomstick Pilot. Sure, it would have been a bad choice personally for the Obamessiah - he'd certainly have to hire a very reliable food taster, for one thing - but at least it would even the odds for his election.

But nope ... now we get the Salt'n Peppa/Young'n Old version of the Olsen Twins ... who stand ready to lead us all ... at least in terms of gas emitted per hour of useless talk.

I think this decision opens up John McCain to go with one of two very competitive choices for his veep - either Sarah Palin, who could really give the Hillary voters an alternative to staying home, and who has actual management experience, and is a conservative, and has actually - believe it or not! - accomplished some real achievements in her relatively short life ... and then there's also MS Gov. Haley Barbour .. male, older, even more accomplished than Pallin, and with terrific national party and conservative credentials.

Contrary to Hugh and the mittwit cheerleaders over on NRO, this is not a good opening for Romney as McCain's pick ... he's another all talk-no real accomplishments guy (unless you consider that huge abortion of a government run health care fiasco in MA to be an "accomplishment"). Romney being another all talk candidate would only result in giving a free pass to the twin mouth-flapping gasbags on the Dem ticket.

"McCain Walks in Beauty"

by Cross-dressing Joe Smithers (aka man of a thousand names)

He walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in his aspect and his eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er his face;

Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

That is how Crossdressing Joe falls in love with his candidate. Don't try reasoning with him, it's like trying to talk a 11-year old girl out of a puppy love crush over whatever teen idol is now popular.

Joe of Many Multi-Colored Dresses
This election started more than two years ago yet we couldn't discuss issues because we couldn't afford to risk losing to Hillary. It was all about "electibility" and "only McCain/Giluiani" could beat Hillary. Ok, they picked Obama. Now we can't discuss issues because we can't afford to lose to a "black Marxist". Yeah, your way makes lots of sense... if you live in Cuba or Russia where discussing issues is a threat to survival. Makes as much sense as using multiple snarky names to make arguments. You are nothing more than a sneaky, deluded liar and weasel.

"McCain will win if he picks Hllary!"

Only one minor flaw in that argument....do you think anyone right of center is going to vote for McCain if he does that? That's a surefire landslide loss.

Yeah, keep playing the adultery card. That's really going to work for you and just further demonstrates your utter meltdown. No-one, REPEAT no-one who has Bill Clinton as a figurehead in their party shoud ever bring up the adultery issue. It's going nowhere just like the boy-wonders candidacy.

Change? And you pick a 36 year veteran of the beltway? Gimme a break.

You spend months hammering those who voted for the Iraq war and then pick one of them for your VP. And don't waste your breath giving me the "Bush lied" meme. How do you square the foreign policy expertise of Sen. Biden with his ability to be tricked by one falsehood from the President? Doesn't bode well for his judgement either does it?

Plugs & Smugs...Toast in so many ways.

I only know Biden from TV
Bu I have to say, its a delicious choice... If you think Obama is arrogant, Biden is arrogant on steroids. I recall his incredible defense of Bill Clintons little Monica episode, and I'm thinking.. You could not ask for a more delectible combination than these two... We are now entering the monkey cage, where the monkey pooh is going to start flying....

If nothing else, there will be a stark contrast between the softspoken McCain, and the Big Mouth, know it all image (wether true or not) that these two blow hards will most certainly display.

I am not a John McCain supporter, no matter who he puts on his ticket. But Alas, I will be voting against Obama in November. I personally think he is the energy crisis solution if we could just somehow capture the words coming out of this soon-to-be Gasbag Machine...

Biden hurling grenades and rhetoric, while Obama plays the race card ans insists his own words are an attack on his character... Man, this will be fun to watch...

Yyyaaawwwnnn!!!

Wanted a war with Iraq long before bush - Good thing!

sings "bomb, bomb Iran" songs as a campaign slogan - Good thing!

saying we should aggressively fight back Russia - Didn't happen, but good thing if it did!

left his suffering first wife to marry the woman he'd secretly committed adultery - Don't care!

62 recent major flip flops on policies - Not that many, but flip-flopping from a stupid position to smart one is a good thing!

How'd kool-aid get on your tinfoil hat?

Hiilary Voters Come On Over...
Smearing Biden is not hard. He's provided years of votes and verbal duhs... Replaying them is not a smear. Doing what Bill Maher does is a smear.

Obama and Biden in an ad-hoc conversation would sound someting like: Barack says " Duh, uh , yuh, well ah,... watta think Joe?" " Uh, do ya know, basically, uh, judge-a-ment.. back to you Barack." Talk about nails on the chalkboard (and yes, this is a smear).

So now McCain has a whole new pool of possible voters, Reagan blue collar Democrats, loaded with soccer moms.

50% of this group polled won't vote for Obama... (that number will go down after the convention)

20% of Hillary women voters polles say the will vote for McCain - they have already flipped...

We like Puma's....

Obama is still fighting the Clinton Wars - Thank You BO... Judge-a-ment.

After the convention bump, these two ad-hoc orally-skilled boobs will give us even more gaffes than before.

Uh, duh, well uh, basically, frankly, ya know....

Yeah Baby..

McCain will win if he picks Hllary!
Think about it; 18 million people, a huge percentage of them women, voted for Hilllary. Out of 50% of them, only 30% say they will vote for Obama. 15% say they will vote for McCain. BUT think if Mc Cain were to have Hillary on his ticket, he could very well get ALL of her voters.

Now I wouldn't necessarily want Hillary in the white house again, but I can't say that if we don't get a real conservative as veep, especially since Mc Cain is not ALL that conservative himself, it would be a bad idea. At least she would have some clue about how to run a country, unlike BARACK, THE JOKE OBAMA!

Of all the possible choices - from an admittedly shallow pool - Biden is the one guy that brings nothing. If he was just a "zero," you could have at least said that he was a benign choice, but Biden is a net negative!

What's that McCain says about, "questioning his judgment." This pretty much proves his point.

These would have been my choices in order of Republican concern: Clinton, Bayh, Kaine, Nelson, Richardson, Hagel, C. Edwards....Hannah Montana, Bin Laden, Biden.

Sarah takes the "Flash" away from O'Bammy. AND, she's got a far better Executive Resume than either of the Dem ticket. Senator Forever Biden couldn't run a K-Mart.

Yes, Mitt Romney would be a strong, appealing choice, as well. But, remember, John, you can't seem to glance his way without looking pi**ed.
