"I Wasn't Flummoxed"
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 10:57 AM
Barack Obama is the least-prepared-to-be-president major presidential candidate in modern times.

The combination of naivete and arrogance in the interview he gave to the Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg ought to stop every supporter of Israel in his or her tracks. Obama's "we don’t do nuance well in politics and especially don’t do it well on Middle East policy" is a huge red flare.  There isn't much nuance needed when terrorist organizations on Israel's northern and southern borders are proponents of the destruction of Israel.  "Nuance" when it comes to dealing with terrorists equals appeasement at best, surrender at worst.

Jennifer Rubin comments here and here.

Okay, where is it?
It's a great interview, and reinforces one's support for the man. A great supporter of Israel who isn't going to be considered inflexible. Where's the beef, what "should stop every supporter of Israel in his or her tracks"?

Ah, maybe this is it: "That does not mean that I would agree with every action of the state of Israel, because it’s a government and it has politicians, and as a politician myself I am deeply mindful that we are imperfect creatures and don’t always act with justice uppermost on our minds."

No mindless supporter he, why, we may as well elect the ghost of Yassir Arafat!

So, nuance equals appeasement. Here's an idea: write a new dictionary that will clarify the neo-Orwellian gobbledegook that characterizes your writing.

another troubling excerpt

Here's another troubling excerpt from the interview, where Obama refers to 'support for Israel' as a "constant sore."
That sounds like the kind of language that the anti-Israel Arab Muslims use---they always speak of Israel as a "cancer" or a "disease."
If Obama 'supports Israel,' as he claims, why on earth would he refer to it as a "constant sore" that "infects" US foreign policy ?
After all, an "infection" is not a synonym for something that is "good."

-----------------
JG: "Do you think that Israel is a drag on America’s reputation overseas?"

BO: "No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy...."

Nuance
The feminized definition of justice seems to be that if a predator seeks a prize, then he must have it. No, not all of it, but depending upon how oppressed his people have been he is to be awarded accordingly. Taxes to the federal and state government, straight-A's to the moderately capable student, destructive actions without consequence, and the delivery of Israel to her enemies. All examples of a "new kind" of nuanced justice.

It makes the succesful white elites feel so much better about themselves. Like when they support ethanol or drive a Prius or bring a cloth bag to the grocery store or wear those Birkenstocks and white socks. And when they support a semi-black candidate for President of the United States without once considering his positions on national and foreign policy, or even his party's platform. To not support the least-prepared candidate in modern times is to admit your preference for substance over style and of reason and logic over emotion.

It is 1932 and we are Europe. And there is no place for nuance here.

NObama in '08 or any other year.

Hamas endorsement?
Hussein fires an aide who was a Hamas visitor. Hamas endorses the Messiah. Israel will not be hoping for O to win the election. If you think that, you are a dolt in understanding ME politics and Israeli history. BIBI will come to power and be praying that ole John wins . Though John is a dolt on global warming, he is not a dolt on military options. I wouldn't trust O or any liberal Dem in charge of our national security. We are indeed in an era where Islamofascism is spreading and liberals think they can talk them to death or peace. Nuts, of course but the socialist pacifists in the nation is unfortunately growing and the Messiah could slip in with a hugely expanded Dem Congress. We would be England with Chamberlain in charge. Barack Obama; least-prepared
"Barack Obama is the least-prepared-to-be-president major presidential candidate in modern times." Ding, ding, ding, this is the "ultimate" issue. It's not about race, which is an easy cop-out for the mainstream media; it’s about Obama’s lack of experience, suspect philosophies and values that are trickling up to the surface for voters’ scrutiny. An easy case and comparison can be made between Obama and former POTUS – within his own party he’s no JFK, and he’s not even a Jimmy Carter (one of our weaker POTUS).

[Talk about grasping for straws!]

No, I'd call it confirmation bias.

Reps are already convinced Obama will sell out Israel and the US to the terrists and make our women wear burqas, so any comment on the Middle East will be parsed and read in the worst possible way to confirm their convictions.

To a neutral observer, I would hazard that his comment was taken as regarding the ongoing perpetual state of conflict, occupation, reprisals, etc that exists between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

I indeed attempted to read the article with fairness and an open mind. I came away with the same feeling I had while listening to Barack's analysis of the drug problem. Yeah, it's a problem. The m.j. laws need to be looked at. The sentences need to be looked at. But, no we should't legalize m.j. That would be a mistake. But we sure do need to look at the problem.

Well, hells bells. People have been been looking at m.j. laws forever. Barack! How about coming up with a specific plan that you intend to institute? Not just admit there's a problem worthy of looking at.

My impression was the same with this article. Yeah, I support Israel. Yeah, it's a sore. No, I don't want Israel doing anything to cause trouble. I don't want Hamas doing anything to cause trouble. Yes, Israel has a right to exist, but it's a sore. Let's take a nuanced look at it.

No vision. No plan. No firm position. So far, the only specific actions I hear Barack is ready to take on day one are raise taxes, grow the nanny state, pull out of Iraq ASAP and go back in if pulling out causes problems.

Help me out here.

Michelle Obama not only separates whites and blacks in society, but she elevates blacks over whites in her world. "There is no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost". As First Lady, she would have numerous resources to reach this goal. Again, not exactly "first lady" material!

Bush is light years smarter then Obama. Bush has been a better President then Obama could ever hope to be.

If you do not like Bush then you will really hate Obama unless you are a Nazi sort of person who needs Government to wipe your little bottom for you.
What are Socailists sniveling about Bush for anyways? I can understand Conservatives having problems with President Bush.

The Amnesty Bill cost Bush dearly and he will never recover from that mess that McCain got Bush into.

Any more to the left side of JFK and Bush would be a socialist. Maybe that is the problem for the DNC.

If Bush had a (d) following his name instead of an (R). Bush would be the second coming of Christ himself and this would be the best economy in fifty years.

The ONLY reason our economy tanked is Lending Laws past by our Government onto the Banking System and the Socialist Hippie DNC that would not let us drill for the vast oceans of oil we have here in the USA.

The "sore"....
... is the uresolved dispute with the Palestinians, not the State of Israel. This comment was made in the context of discussing Israeli settlements.

This discussion simply confirms Obama's comments about nuance. The very notion that one can assert strong, deeply felt support for the State of Israel- including condemnation of Jimmy Carter's "apartheid" statement- while reserving the right to be critical of individual policy choices made by Israel- is caricatured as being anti- Israel. By that measure, I too am anti- Israel. As are President Bush and Secretary Rice.

Jews understand this. That's why Obama will have the overwhelming support of the Jewish community. These cheap attempts at defamation may reassure those that would never vote for Obama anyway, but that's about it.

You asked:

"What if he comes out and says "This terrorism, this hatred, this atagonism has won you nothing. You are farther behind than when you started. It is time to go another direction."

He bassically said just that in this interview:

"When I visited Ramallah, among a group of Palestinian students, one of the things that I said to those students was: “Look, I am sympathetic to you and the need for you guys to have a country that can function, but understand this: if you’re waiting for America to distance itself from Israel, you are delusional. Because my commitment, our commitment, to Israel’s security is non-negotiable.” I’ve said this in front of audiences where, if there were any doubts about my position, that’d be a place where you’d hear it."

Just as Billy Bob Clinton's womanizing proclivities turned out to be TRUE and devasting to our nation. They distracted him and Congress from AQ's looming threat. Live on State Broadcast TV, Ahmadinejad added "The criminals assume that by holding celebations they can save the sinister zionist regime from death & annihilation". He spoke after Pres.Bush arrived in Israel. Ahmadinutjob, used the Arabic word "isimihlal" that can be translated as desturction, death or collapse! A follow-up to his 2005 speech that "Isreal will be wiped off the map".
Iran, supports Hamas & Hezbollah terrorists, its nuclear program arsenal of long-range missles can be fitted with nuclear warheads and are capable of striking Israel.
Iran equipped with 3 Shahab-3 missles range 1,250 miles, Isreal is 652 miles west of Iran.
Mr. Ahmadinejad message is a serious threat!, Should be remarkably disturbing. Where is the U.N. condemnation? Why the Democrats, The House Foreign Affairs Committee is quiet on this matter?

Princess MaryStella...The President
let go with some wonderful riffs before the Israeli Kenesset(sp?)and the Lib-Left-O'Bammy Loonies are screeching to the heavens! Rush opened his show today with several audio clips from the President's fiery speech, juxtaposed with howlings from Puff Daschle, John Kerry, etc. In other words, the C-In-C hit an out of the park HOMERUN! Imagine, they knew immediately who the Prez was referring to!

And ALL he had to do, without mentioning names, was remind Israelis of the Massive Costs of Appeasement and "engaging" with monsters. The Holocaust was, of course, one COST of Western 'Liberal' Feel Good Appeasers. And, the Dems are shrieking like pissy lil' Mocking Birds!

God, I LOVE the sound of wounded, bleating Liberals in the morning!

H O M E R U N...President Booooooosh!!
MaryStella writes: Thursday, May, 15, 2008 5:36 PM
Sir Neo,
The President Booooooosh, was magnificent in Israel. God Bless him, and the Israel too.
I loved his speech, and the reaction, from rightous Kerry was soooo funny, puffy Daschle, so softly, make me chuckle; as usual they stepped in it!
Notice the time, I posted my comments!
Speaking of Mocking Birds, mine are back, I feed them lots of blackberries! You should see them how, the stare at me and listen to Rush!
God Bless America! and God Bless you and your dear family my friend.

MaryS...God Bless Our Brave President !
He speaks the Truth and the Dem-Dumbs shrill like 4th grade girls.

Mockingbirds, I learned recently, are the state bird of our adopted state of Florida. Never occurred to me, with all the wild & beautiful bird species down here. I'm listening to a couple in the tree just outside our study where I'm sitting. They're a bit duskier looking than our California Mockingbirds, but just as spirited and fun to watch and enjoy.

To you and your family, as well, my friend.

Arch, Sucking up to the blog crowd here, don't change the fact that you're a pinhead.

Neo and Marystella, My family and I love you guys and your families, too. What are your real names, darlin's?

You guys
Jeez, I love you two (in my own way). But, the irony is more interesting. Here you are, defending white male privilege: a TZ, and an underemployed Hollywood putz.I don't mock..

Why, so bitter?

Lil'Gay Duddsie...We Understand, Bro'..
Honest we do. And here I thought you admired my working with my Homies and Old Timers. So, disappointed, Dude.

MaryStella, it turns out that our obsessive envy-artist is getting nasty wiff his wittle self. And, I thought he was trying to get cozy!

MS
allon dancer, Marystella, when you' mama is not here; won't you come and dance wit' me, let me hold you near..

Neo, of course I admire your work with the seniors. But you need to take up yoga, or line dancing, pal, get away from blogging. Brings out the unconscious in you: everything you say, like "getting nasty wiff his wittle self", takes you further back into that pitch-black world of Neo pre-history. Take care..

Neo,
I guess, he is dark and ugly.
