Why Saxby Looks Strong in GA...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 3:41 PM

Predictions are dangerous, of course, but so far, all signs point to a Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) victory in tomorrow's run-off.

Following are my reasons for being optimistic:

1.  Obama's base already accomplished what they wanted: Obama is the President-Elect.  Even with Obama on the ballot, Chambliss out-polled his Democratic rival.  What are the odds Democrats will be more motivated to vote without Obama on the ballot?

... As evidence of this, so far, African American early voting turn-out has been about 22 percent (in the General it was 34 percent at this point).

2.  Unlike the General Election, there is no Libertarian in the run-off to take votes away from Chambliss.  In the General Election, Libertarian Allen Buckley pulled about 130,000 votes.  Most of those votes probably came from Chambliss.  In fact, my bet is that many were protest votes meant to send a message to the GOP.

3.  Sarah Palinwho is campaigning in Georgia today, will be a huge asset.  She did four state-wide events today, and we're hearing 3-5,000 attendees at each event.   No doubt, Palin will increase Republican turnout.  Meanwhile, Barack Obama has decided not to campaign (in person) in the state.

Has Chambliss Gotten The Message?
That the people of GA do not want amnesty for illegal aliens and their employers?

agree 100%
I agree with all three points. This race was never really in doubt. If Saxby Chambliss wins by more than 5% (his current lead in most polls), Sarah Palin star power will be proven once again. This is in many ways the first race of 2010, reminds me a lot of Coverdale in 1992. After Clinton won in 1992, all the same talk occurred i.e. what are the Republicans to do? Coverdale defeated an incumbent Democrat in Georgia and just two years later the Republicans won 10 senate seats and over 50 congressional seats.

The contenders for 2012 will be trying to build up capital through 2010. This could be Sarah Palin's first big win. One reason Sarah Palin should be considered the front runner in 2012, is she will get more requests and raise more money for Republican candidates than any other candidate in 2010. If you are hosting a fundraised and you could call Romney, Huckabee, Jindal or Palin, your number one choice is going to be Sarah Palin. If 2010 is a big year for Republicans (which it probably will be), a lot of candidates will owe Sarah Palin a favor.

The star power of Sarah Palin
I agree with Rashum, if you want to energize the Republican base and raise money the first person you are going to call is Sarah Palin (notice that Bobby Jindal is not even a contender). The fact remains that Sarah Palin is the star of the Republican Party and I agree that if the Republicans do well in 2010 I believe that many will owe a debt to Sarah Palin. Today Newsmax.com released an article of a new Zogby Poll, (see here http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/palin_zogby_poll/2008/1 2/01/156857.html)
that shows that Sarah Palin is still the top choice for Republicans in 2012. The second choice was Romney but insiders close to Romney has stated that he does not intend to run in 2012. Sarah's numers were twice as many in this poll as Bobby Jindal's and now in three polls (Rasmussen, Gallup, and Zogby) Sarah is the Queen of the Republican Party. When Republican's are waiting for many hours in the cold to see you and chant you name when you speak (Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!) and sells Palin 2012 t-shirts you know that you are in a good place for 2012.

Another job?
I thought Caribou Barbie had a job -- one she neglected for weeks during the campaign:

"It’s now been three weeks since the election. And Sarah has yet to set foot in Juneau. Next week she’s off to Georgia. And from there up to Philly. By the time she gets back to Alaska the Holiday Season will be full upon her. So it’s unlikely that Sarah will spend another night in the Governor’s Mansion until the Legislature returns to Juneau in January."

Too bad we have to have Chambliss
As a RINO, Chambliss is on the wrong side of many conservative issues. The only reason we need him now is to keep the Dems from getting that 60 vote majority. Sigh.

You might want to become a little more informed on Alaskan politics. Gov. Palin works from her home office in Wasilla several months out of the year, i believe. She only works out of her Juneau office when the legislature is in session. It was this way before the election.

Better luck next time.

Democrats Already Have Cloture
Snowe, Collins, Specter, Lugar, Grahamnesty, and McCain will provide the Democrats the votes they need to stop any filibuster.
