Blogging While Female
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 10:40 AM
John Hawkins interviewed a group of women bloggers today for the second installment in a series, "Blogging While Female."

Our very own Amanda Carpenter was featured the first time around.

Truly, this interview may be the only chance you ever get to see me talk about something called "gender issues." Ha. Not generally my milieu, that, but we chatted a bit about my hate mail, such that it is (I'm fortunate not to get too much), opportunities for women in the blogosphere, and the feminist blogs on the other side of the aisle.

Also interviewed are the very talented Ann Althouse, Kathy Shaidle, the irreplaceable E.M. Zanotti, and longtime buddy La Shawn Barber. Enjoy both their thoughts in this interview and their blogs every day.

special people?
Why is there such a compulsion to think about everything with the twist of “how it affects women”?

That kind of thinking is sexist and condescending.

Aren’t women just people? Or are they some sort of special class like the disabled that need special consideration everywhere we turn?

viloent women are okay?
"just asking for a drink in the face"

Sounds like you support the idea of women being able to do what they want with no concequences

Hotness isn't subject to question
If a woman's hot, it's a waste of resources to ask. If you do, you need that drink in the face to signify that you are still in the bush leagues. I can tell without seeing her face, because hotness is in the brain (although Sharpie eyebrows tend to skeeve me out).

I wasn't going to comment
However, I have to deliver a slight smackdown on the other Steve. Asking a woman whether she is hot is just asking for a drink in the face (never mind that our talented and lovely hostess qualifies on that front).

Related to that, I'm glad that I have no illusions about getting on TV.

Great Interview
You did a gret job of answering the questions openly and honestly.

You did "Obama" (dodge) the question about getting on TV becasue you are hot. What's your answer?
