The First Lady fired her old Chief of Staff, and hired a new one, 61-year-old Susan Sher, a close friend and more of a "peer" than the former 37-year-old Jackie Norris. Sher's new directive? To give Michelle more substance. From communications chief Camille Johnston:
Her desire is to step out more and have deliverables. Michelle also hired a new speech writer, and directed her staff to "think strategically." The goal, it seems is to get on it. Apparently she's tired of her arms getting more attention than her action plans. My advice? Loose the gardening schtick, and stop hosting read-alongs. If you really want to be taken seriously, follow the Hillary Clinton model and start formulating policy. You'll probably fail, but at least you'll have done more than sit pretty.

Go to the website for the Illinois licensing agency and see that yes, she went inactive, among other 'facts'. Were she 'disciplined' it would be there. Did your daughter or son not get into Harvard? Is that what this is about? Has she paid her student loans? Did she not have some career in law?
You surely cannot be suggesting that if she decided to be a SAHM and home school her girls, working at the church on the side, that she would have been a bad person and wasted her law degree, are you? I bet not, because for the right, I thought SAHM-dom and keeping your kids out of public schools and socializing them was a great thing to do. |

Racism dies when white racists die. Doesn't matter if you are pretending to rail against illegal immigrants who are brown because they are illegal, or against affirmative action, you do so because you are racist and expect hundreds of years of racism to come falling down. Go look up the Southern Law group and see all the racism they report, and then try to lecture those who are the subject of racism (which is power, not just words, and whites who don't like being called 'whitey' would like it a heck of a lot less if being 'whitey' meant you didn't get a job. That cannot be the case in a majority white world, dear Diane. You clearly do not understand things, do you, since you reference a white politician talking about rap music. It isn't even close to being the same. Just as you, a white christian woman cannot called someone the n-word or a kike, even if blacks and jews might jokingly refer to each other that way, majority can't talk that way. Minority can talk about itself that way, get it?

Hundreds of law students go to fancy law schools, pass the bar, and then do other things. Law degrees are often a good foundation for business, esp. when you may have undergrad degrees in such areas. To suggest that she took up a space in law school under false pretenses is funny, since it presumes that when she went to law school, she knew that she wouldn't continue in the type of law she chose upon graduation. Who knows that?
I find the comment funny because my father used to say that about women he taught in med school. He was upset that women 'took up spaces they'd give up when they got married', which indeed did happen. Glad you have the mentality of a man born in 1926.
As far as the 'acting white' comment goes, it was inappropriate when said to her, but certainly not when referenced by her. Bill Cosby has made similar observations; I'm sure TH posters, esp. the fake Larry Elder, stood up and applauded his use of the term to put down gangbanger types who don't like education, but when Mrs. Obama says it, somehow it is inappropriate. Could not be further from the truth. She spoke truth there. You, I assume a white woman who's never set foot in an a majority african american high school, wouldn't have any experience upon which to base your opinion, now would you?

First idiot lets address the acting white comment. This remark was inappropriate to say the least. There should not have been any reference to white or black when she spoke to these children. If you clowns really want racism to die you surely do not make statements like that. What she could have said that certainly would have been acceptable is that other kids teased her because she loved to learn. Mentioning the white part was out of line. If any white politican had said that the whites accused them of acting black because they liked rap music you would have been all over it and claimed that it was a racist remark. Second according to what I read Michelle Obama made her law license inactive and the records are sealed. Many professionals who face disciplinary actions are allowed to inactivate their licenses voluntarily. Now my point is this woman took a place at Harvard, a school many strive to be accepted at. She apparently got both loans and scholarships for her education. She decided to make her law license inactive, we are all not sure of the reason, but some poor young man or woman probably could have used those loans and scholarships to actual have a career in law. She took money for an education she chose not to use. She did not need to attend Harvard law to be a community organizers helper that is for sure. |

I don't think Ms Obama shouldn't make any long term commitments because I don't think that her hubby will last more than 1 term, go back to you cushy job in Chicago and stash some of those ill gotten gain away. With out political help Ms Obama would be a common angry person living in her angry world which has a population of 1. |

Case in point: this thread is about a Washington Post article. You read the article, the TOPIC article, and quoted from it. Peacefrog, rather than saying, "Hey, you made a good point" and engaging you in some way, calls you a moron and says you're "cherry picking."
These people don't think. They have little buttons marked "Al Gore" and "Guns" and "Abortion," and so on. Something touches a button, and an automatic response comes spewing out. Don't try to reason with them.

Her garden routine is a joke! If she would get her huge, shelf-sized butt out and do something substantial for real, needy people and/or deprived CHILDREN, I may eventually alter my opinion. But all these superficial, disingenuous photo-ops as to the "WH garden" are such utter nonsense that even an imbecile would discern the hypocritical ploy.
Soooooooo, COLDPLAYLOVER, I suggest you go to the Villanova University, Philadelphia, Pennsaylvania Speeches (2), and Michelle Obama's Thesis (Princeton University)...and, read diligently: you will get a sense of a woman who is/was hateful, angry, and unrelentingly resentful...for what???? For everything that others could not acquire because she was, at that time in history, the priority.

In defending the equal liar, 'man's wife', you cite to a blog, which cites to that known liar Michelle Malkin, who then cites an article. Now, you and Man's wife, Peacefrog, contend that Michelle Obama "... kicked poor patients out of her fancy hospital when they had the gall to show up at the emergency room."
But this is what the article ACTUALLY said:

So, she launched an 'innovative program' that steered 'non urgent' patients to existing clinics. Isn't that EXACTLY what you claim hospital ERs should be doing, not taking care of non-emergencies? What if 100% of these non-urgent cases were illegals! dios mio!

Your kids, who are lucky to get into community college, were deprived a seat at Harvard Law by someone who, like many who go to law school, chose to stop practicing law and became inactive with their law licenses. The two of them are 'inactive'. Lots of people are inactive. Judge Lance Ito is also not an active member of the CA bar because he is a judge, for example.
Why do you lie, Diane? Many lawyers who no longer practice law inactivate their licenses -- you don't have to pay the full dues, or meet what can be onerous continuing education obligations. If you are not practicing law, like a judge, like a hospital administrator, many choose to go inactive. But lacking such knowledge doesn't stop you from being an ignorant liar, does it, Diane?

Diane--you are obviously more ignorant than I have previously thought. When Michelle said she was teased about 'acting white', that has MEANING to people of color, particularly in the African American community. Often, in poor communities, if you try to do well, you are chastised for trying to act like something you are not, i.e. 'acting white', 'speaking white', whatever. It is not a new expression, except perhaps in some suburb where the only people of color you see are on television. Persons as diverse as Bill Cosby and Spike Lee have referred to the concept. It is the modern day equivalent of being an 'uncle tom'. It also happened to minority kids decades ago--Italian American or Irish American kids of immigrants whose peers said they were not Italian or Irish anymore because they talked 'rich'. "Oakies' who came from the midwest during the dustbowl times who tried to escape poverty by doing well in school received similar treatment.
Diane, you surely didn't think that meant she was disparaging white people, did you? It was an insult to her from her black peers, not that whites were bad, but that blacks who spoke well and did well in school were not 'cool'.
Sky: I've said this before. I don't watch tv. I listen to the BBC online, and read newspapers. I'm old school. As far as that 'proud' remark goes, I'm not proud of my country at all. I'm proud to be an American, but 'my country'? I'm proud of my husband and kids, but how can you be proud of an inanimate object? Our country, esp. if you are a minority, has done a lot of dreadful things over the centuries.
She is a shining example of how anyone can succeed in this country. She knows it. She speaks about it almost daily. What she is or isn't proud of is kind of irrelevant. She is a walking example of what is right about this country. |

I suggest you go to http://www.whitehouse.gov and read the First Lady's speeches. She talks about how this is the land of opportunity and how education gives you the keys to the kingdom of life.
But none of you will actually educate yourselves about what she says, only what Sean and Rush say about her. The sound bites that are truly meaningless when compared with the reality of a woman raised by working class people who achieved far beyond her 'station' in life, who now inspires thousands if not millions of young minorities who for years thought that their only way to success was by bouncing a basketball or singing a hit song. |

You mean she is a modern woman who doesn't want to just read books and putter around the house like some of her predecessors? She does a lot of things, but since you only watch Fox and read that rag called the "Washington Times" that Rev. Moon publishes instead of the NYTimes, I forgive you for not knowing what she's done lately. Let's see, she goes to schools and talks to at risk teen girls (and boys). Holds jazz education conferences for school kids at the WH with greats like the Marsalis family. She works with local kids in DC on sustainable food issues, and nutrition. She and Barack actually try to make the time for their kids for homework and such (she is after all also a mother). She doesn't want to form 'policy' as much as 'practice', meaning she is an example of what you can become if you study hard and do well in school. What a grand role model she is--even the Queen of England was charmed enough to push protocol aside and put her arm around Michelle's waist first.
Jillian--I know that you are not really interested in being a real journalist who properly researches stories, but this kind of pablum post is truly beneath you.
She's our first lady. Give her the respect you demanded for others. And don't worry so much---she probably won't run for president until 2020. You don't have to try to kill her campaign quite yet. |
