Rove Gives McCain Advice
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 10:27 AM
Over at the WSJ, Karl Rove offers some advice to John McCain:

"So what should Mr. McCain do? He's rightly raising questions about Mr. Obama's fitness to be president, starting with his failure to admit that the surge in Iraq worked. Mr. McCain should stay at it, though he'll need help to make the case.

Mr. McCain was correct to seize on Mr. Obama's insinuations that the GOP would mount racist attacks against him. Now Mr. McCain needs to find ways to describe an Obama who is running on empty rhetoric. He needs to do to Mr. Obama what Walter Mondale did to Gary "Where's the Beef?" Hart in the 1984 Democratic primaries. Given Mr. Obama's thin r?sum? and accomplishments, this can be done, with a sustained effort.

...

Then there's character. Mr. McCain is the most private person to run for president since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. He needs to share (or allow others to share) more about him, especially his faith. The McCain and Obama campaigns are mirror opposites. Mr. McCain offers little biography, while Mr. Obama is nothing but."

The Republican Party's convention next month is Mr. McCain's biggest chance to improve his posture. The best minds in his campaign should be carefully working on its script. Everyone knows conventions are show, but voters want to see if a candidate can put on a good one that rings true.

What McCain needs to do is
NOT take advice from Karl Rove. McCain's best chance of winning this election is to distance himself from Bush, Bush's advisors, and the rupublican party establishment in general. McCain is the only republican who could win this election, his "brand" is much better than the republican brand, and he would be foolish to start listening to them now. He just needs to be himself, and plow forward on his own terms.

If you liked Jimmy, you will love Barack
Obama is not the end of the world (maybe). It is a chance for younger voters to experience the joys and prosperity of the Carter years.

Thanks but no thanks.

Oh NO!
A top republican strategist has given indirect advice to McShame!! What will we ever do?!?!

Oh wait, this is the USA. We can do that sort of thing... at least until the likes of Kimberly get their way.

Kimberly
Sweetie, while you are off for the summer from Jr. High, and have not picked up a decent book or newspaper, let us enlighten you.
Rove is a good man, the left hates because he knows politics. He has been a loyal advisor to Bush. Now he advises McCain. Last time I looked, Bush is president. McCain will be well served to have such a knowledgeable advisor.

Obama's star is falling - fast. As folks get to know him, they are learning he is NOT the second comming. They are learning that he has zero experience. It is more than just clicking your heels and making it appear your the president. You actually will have to lead. He does not know how to make decisions at all.

don't you want to have any credibility at all? tone it down if you want us to consider your opinions. You must be a McAuliffe fan, no?

just for fun
McCain should go find (most likely) Obama supporters who are famous for being famous and just film them talking (vacuously) about how great is Obama.

Here's a starter list:
Charo
Kato Kaelen
Kevin Federline
Ben Affleck
Al Franken
Elian Gonzalez
Momar Khadafi
Not Hall but that other guy

These are people of no consequence and have acheived little yet we know them.

Attack and Promote
McCain should Barack in a smart way that helps reveal the true Barack (like setting off charges to start the avalanche). Barack is a skilled and tough candidate (and obviously survived some pretty tough attacks in the primaries) but that was in front of the Democratic base. The general is very different.

And promote McCain. There is a lot of good things to be said about McCain.
