Chuck Hagel's Cabinet Campaign
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 10:10 PM
In what seems like a fairly obvious bid to gain an Obama administration Cabinet post, Chuck Hagel today unloaded on Rush Limbaugh and other radio talk show hosts.

What he obviously doesn't understand is that such behavior does nothing to endear him to the Obama administration -- at least if the people making the staffing choices are smart.  Hagel's intemperance is markedly at odds with the "can't we all just get along" tone that President-elect Obama seems to want to set.

What's more, Hagel's reasoning is specious on its face.  He calls for more bipartisanship and results-oriented governing -- but declined to endorse his old friend, John McCain, who had actually behaved that way in office.  Instead, Hagel has continued to preen for McCain's erstwhile rival, who -- nothwisthanding all the pretty words -- has an actual record in office that is one of the most partisan in the Senate.

You won't be missed. Can you take John McCain with you when you leave Washington?

Ah here we go again!
Ah more Neo-Conservatives. Ah yes the "Republican" RINOS, or Democrats in Republican garb! This is a time to fight liberalism and not make peace with it!

Obama needs to schedule that meeting now
"TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran is aiming to commission its first nuclear power plant in 2009 after years of delays, the official IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.Russia has already delivered nuclear fuel under a $1 billion contract to build the Bushehr plant on the Gulf coast in southwest Iran. But the start-up timetable has frequently been put back because of issues such as a row over payments.Russia agreed to build the plant in 1995 on the site of an earlier project begun in the 1970s by German firm Siemens. The Siemens' project was disrupted by Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution and the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war".

Iran will be Obama's Iraq and this time he won't have a republican congress to blame for any mistakes - just his decision or indecision to deal with Iran. I say it's time to schedule that meeting without any pre-conditions. Pop corn and soda anyone?
"The commissioning stage of Bushehr nuclear power station has begun and we are hopeful the power station will be commissioned in 2009 as per the agreement we have had with the Russian party," the spokesman for Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohsen Delaviz, was quoted a saying.

He did not give a more precise date.

i do find it interesting
that all the conservative talk show hosts from rush to hewitt to savage all tell the politicians what they are doing wrong but don't have the guts to back up their talk and run for office.

Unloaded? I say blowhard.
Hagel may be one of the most respected people in the United States Senate to anti-war progressives but to Republicans of any stripe he’s a curious critter with no portfolio and less future.

Additionally, his quote last year, “Well, all I would do is point to the last four years -- are things better in the Middle East today? No, they're more dangerous today in the Middle East than they've ever been. I challenge anyone to question that" is bizarre and historically incorrect.

In October of 1972, for two weeks the entire Arab world along with some other Muslim participation and that of Soviet surrogate Cuba launched and fought the Yom Kippur war against Israel.

America and the Soviet Union saw the nuclear threat assessment and DEFCON rise. Letters of intent to intercede by the Soviets on the side of Egypt were received by the United States along with intelligence showing that the Soviets had airborne and sea units in transit and at alert status.

The United States warned the Soviets that if they entered the war to save the Egyptian Armies or did any act of intercession, the United States would also enter in the defense of its ally Israel along with the full force of NATO. At this point the Mediterranean was a flotilla of Soviet Ships and the keg and fuse were primed to light.

In October of 1972, the world trembled as the two nuclear super powers, the United States and the Soviet Union glowered at each other and threatened each other with a full scale confrontation of war over a Middle East already fully engulfed in war.

For a United States Senator to make so cavalier a statement as the one above demonstrates why Sen. Hagel is not to be considered a serious man by any with a geo-political and historical sense of time and place.

Who wants a mercurial little teapot running up to a boil every other day and using crazed hyperbolic lingo to get the bosses attention.

The words farce and peacock come easily to mind when contemplating Sen. Hegal.

The man!
None of you have squat to say about Hagel. He and Ron Paul are the only two true Republicans left. They are the foundation of the Republican party only the rest of them don't know because they morphed into something else. And most of them don't believe in evolution, HA! They want what I want, small government, strong military, a foriegn policy that doesn't base itself around nation building but making friends through trading.
Hagel is well known for busting heads on both sides of the lane so none of this is a suprise and yes Obama should pick him for something. He is exactly what is needed. Then get Ron Paul and assign him as the Chief Defender of the Constitution.
Oh and Vonry, the idea of nations who wish to simply wipe another off the face of the map is way more dangerous than the old days. They are trying to get nuclear weapons and it is easier to hide now then it was then. Hagel is right, the Middle East is worse then it ever was partly because of us. History has shown anytime we interfere with nations who's politics we do not understand always end up bad.

Why would Rush want to take a pay cut? And he can wield plenty of power of he were to choose to.

Did anyone else...
get sick watching RINO Hagel accompanying Obambi on his victory tour of Europe? I can't believe Nebraskans voted that guy in. Time to vote him out.
Jeanne writes: Wednesday, November, 19, 2008 9:30 AM
Hagel is and always has been a JOKE
Why Nebraskans continuously voted this man in is besides me...probably on because he LIED and said he was a REPUBLICAN..He is leaving Congress..why?..To join the Nobama Administration so he can try and help destroy our great country..Lieberman has more guts, courage and conviction than Hagel ever could have imagined in his tiny puss-infected brain!

Hagel for Sec. of Defence
Maybe then vets could get the help they need, instead of the lip service they are now getting from all the deferment boys.

How Chuck got rich ....
Chuck got rich the old fashioned way. He used his priveleged position in the government to take advantage of a regulatory change and suddenly was a business genius.

Desperate for a new job
Desperate times call for desperate measures. What has Rush done to Chuck? I have always liked both of them, but it is unnecessary for Chuck to unload on Rush when talk radio is being threatened by the Fairness (censorship) doctrine.

What good does it do for Obama
to pick a Republican if he has little support among Republicans? Chuck does realize that he would be picked for R after his name and if he can't help the Chosen One get bi-partisan government he's useless.
